Neil Peart, drummer and primary lyricist for @rushtheband, has died at 67 during a fight with brain cancer, according to @CBCAlerts.— Washington Examiner (@dcexaminer) January 10, 2020
Peart joined Rush in 1974, two weeks before the band's first US tour.

I was a drummer in a rock and roll band back in the 80's so I was heavily invested in the "best drummer" arguments. For my money, I liked the Ginger Baker, John Bonham, Stuart Copeland sort of drummer, with a special place in my heart for the odd, but effective styling of Ringo Starr.
Peart was always a bit to "technical" and "mechanical" for me. I liked drummers who played with more feel and rhythm. But make no mistake, nobody (and I mean nobody) could get around the drum kit faster and with more precision than Peart. A musical legend and musical great died today.

I could just could never get Rush, the song about the maples and oaks made nuts
Definitely talented but never got them
i was never a huge fan but knew their stuff that got radio play; 2112, tom sawyer, etc.
saw them once here in albany at what is now called the times union center. our seats were on the farthest left side of the stage looking at it completely sideways. i was so pissed entering the arena thinking our seats sucked only to discover we had a clear line of sight right into neil and his kit.
i had not seen drummer perform like that before or since. absolutely fucking amazing.
Another great gone !!!!! Very big loss to rock and roll!!!!!!! Been a tough year for music!!!! Was always incredulous that the 3 guys in Rush could layer so many layers of sound for such a minimalist group....!!!!
I hope he didn’t suffer, my wife’s brother and mom died of brain cancer and wasn’t pretty
