The left goes full scale bonkers on impeachment!

Now that the time is here and will quickly be gone, liberals go full scale ballistic!

Look folks, this impeachment thing is pretty much over before it even starts. The only thing left here is the details of whether or not there are new witnesses, who those new witnesses will be, and how long that it will actually drag out. A few days? Two weeks?  A month? What we know is that it's scheduled to get kicked off early next week and Senators are expected to work through that next weekend and into the next week. I suspect that things will come to a close before the end of January, but what do I know?

Well what I do know is that the left if becoming increasingly pissed off because of their misguided perception that the Senate is obligated to take up causes that the House impeachment hearings did not. The amount of angst and sheer outrage over the idea that the Senate trial will likely come and go without more chasing of conspiracies is mounting. People on the left are especially getting agitated because they know there is little chance that the Senate is going to take seriously the "new evidence" that was conveniently sent to the House Democrats just as the trial is getting underway.

As has been pointed out by many this is on the Democrats. Democrats insisted in the House that they provided the Country with overwhelming evidence that the President committed impeachable offenses. They will now be allowed a team of Impeachment Managers (basically prosecutors) who are going to be able to go up in front of the Senate and present their ironclad case to everyone, including any and all information on any and all witnesses, documents, and anything else they uncovered in their endeavors.

However, the very concept that the Senate should consider the House's case (as the House case is presented) is being called a "cover up" by the very people who are bringing their case. Keep in mind that the seven members of the House "ARE" the prosecution in this case. The Senators are just the jury and are there to see if the House impeachment case is strong enough to convict. But this is where the House prosecutors are upset. They want their investigation to be continued in the Senate, by the judge and jury, because they didn't take the time to really make their own case.

To be clear, Democrats are complaining that their own prosecution is a sham, incomplete, and little more than a cover up! 

This is akin to a prosecutor pressing forward with a case without a complete investigation of the events, and then complaining that the Judge, jury, and defense is not more willing to use the court's resources to engage in additional investigations and additional research while the trial is going on. You come to trial WITH all of the evidence in hand that you need to move forward. In a real court of law, you must not only have all of your evidence when you go to trial, but you must be willing to disclose it to the defense. You are not allowed "undue surprises" during the trial, much less have any expectation that the defense will participate in additional investigations, witnesses, or anything else not originally brought forward in the case. While you can call "new" witnesses at a trial, these things are done sparingly and only with absolute cause and relevance to the situation. You would never be allowed to call someone (whom is not vetted) in desperation because your original prosecution is falling through.

The original argument from the left was that the impeachment hearings was like a grand jury indictment and that that the Senate is where you would hold a trial. This is actually a pretty good analogy, but you must keep in mind that by the time you get to a trial, all of the investigation is complete, you have all of the evidence you will need, and you are confident that you can get a jury to say the defendant is guilty. But the manner in which impeachment lays out (with the House being ultimately responsible for presenting the prosecutors case), it become important to have all of your ducks in a row "before" you send your articles to the Senate (which triggers your trial). There is little time in between the articles of impeachment and the trial to continue your investigation, so your investigations should have been done prior to voting on the articles of impeachment.  

Bottom line is that you use a trial to "make" the case you already have, not to "investigate" your case.

At the end of the day, Pelosi, Schiff and gang dug their own hole. By demanding that their articles of impeachment be voted on before Christmas, they all but guaranteed that they would not have a complete case to present to the Senate during the impeachment trial. Their plan all along was apparently to convince the members of the Senate GOP majority to do their investigating for them, to call new witnesses, to explore new lines of possible misdeeds. At the end of the day, this is little more than expecting others to do their job for them.
