What continues to get missed by the media in the impeachment fiasco!

So this fellow named Lev Parnas is now conveniently suggesting that "he" was given the task of offering the quid pro quo that has been alleged by the Democrats but not proven. This would seem to be the big "missing link" if in fact Parnas is telling the truth.

But nobody in the Administration seems to know Lev Parnas other than apparently Giuliani. Parnas isn't claiming that he received any orders from Trump, or that he received any orders from Pence, or that he even spoke to anyone else in the Administration about Ukraine, other than Rudy Giuliani. Literally everyone in the Administration denies knowing or dealing with Lev Parnas.

But something else is amiss here. The Ukrainians are also completely unified in their demands that they don't know anything about Parnas, that nobody representing the Ukrainian government has met with Parnas, much less received demands from Parnas. In fact, the Ukrainians continue to state unequivocally that no demands were ever made by the President or anyone else in his Administration in regards to any investigations or any public statements for investigations.

At the end of the day, you have a bunch of allegations that are denied by everyone that could have possibly had the power to make the allegations true. Furthermore, those denials include everyone in both of the Administrations, and there has been zero evidence brought forward by anyone that there is any real reason to question these denials.

Less than 12 hours after the White House announced President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial defense team, new questions have emerged about connections between some of his lawyers and figures at the center of the Ukraine investigation.

A document dump from the House Judiciary Committee overnight Friday included more information about Rudy Giuliani associate Lev Parnas, who is currently under federal indictment for his alleged role in the political pressure campaign in Ukraine.

The released documents included photos of Parnas with President Trump as well as shots of him with Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Pam Bondi, a former Florida attorney general who is among the lawyers on the president's impeachment team.

Trump has repeatedly said he does not know Parnas.

The Judiciary Committee's release also included information obtained by the FBI when they searched Parnas’ electronic devices. According to his electronic calendar, Parnas had a breakfast meeting scheduled with President Trump in September, just days before Parnas was arrested.
______________

Trump had a breakfast meeting scheduled with a man he "didn't know"?

Well James...

The President's calendar is well known and impossible to change, and basically a matter of record. If Trump had Parnas on "his" calendar, we would have known a long time ago.

But I looked at my updated calendar for next week, and I have a meeting with Trump, one with Putin, one with Mitch McConnell, and a secret hour long lunch date at a hotel with a famous actress!

Goody for me! I have busy week!

Let me guess... The breakfast meeting never took place
because the President realized he had better back off

OR

because Parnas realized he and Fruman were getting into deeper and deeper trouble and backed off a few days before the two of them were arrested at the airport when they were trying to take a one way trip to Ukraine.

It was never on Trumps official calendar James. That calendar is achieved as official government records.

Like Parmes other "evidence' nobody can verify it independently. In fact there is some evidence the photos and other documents are faked.

Suuurrrre. And now Commensa will provide us with some of that evidence.

ALSO Why would Parnas have faked a scheduled breakfast meeting with Trump when he was still in Trump's and Giuliani's good graces? And why would he have faked photos of himself with Ivanka and Trump Jr. and Trump and others when he was still in their good graces?

Trump Team Attacks Impeachment as ‘Invalid’

“President Trump launched his first formal attack on the House’s effort to remove him from office on Saturday, calling the Democrats’ impeachment case against him fatally flawed and ‘constitutionally invalid’ while blasting the effort as a political hit job by his adversaries,” Politico reports.

Said the lawyers:
“This is a brazen and unlawful attempt to overturn the results of the 2016 election and interfere with the 2020 election.”

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

New York Times:
“The president’s lawyers DID NOT DENY any of the core facts underlying Democrats’ charges, conceding WHAT AMPLE EVIDENCE HAS SHOWN, that Trump WITHHELD $391 million in aid from Ukraine and ASKED THE COUNTRY'S PRESIDENT TO INVESTIGATE FORMER VICE PRESIDENT JOSEPH BIDEN AND HIS SON, HUNTER. But they said Mr. Trump BROKE NO LAWS and was acting entirely APPROPRIATELY and within his powers when he did so.”

Democrats Argue Trump Is a National Security Threat*

“The House Democratic managers argue the Senate must ‘eliminate the threat that the President poses to America’s national security’ in the 111-page legal brief they filed Saturday,” the Washington Post reports.

The brief also describes Trump’s conduct as “the Framers’ worst nightmare”

“With opening arguments in the Senate trial to begin Tuesday afternoon, the seven House managers had until 5 p.m. Saturday to file their brief describing why Trump should be convicted and removed from office. The White House defense team has until noon Monday to file its argument why he should be acquited.”

Trump responds to articles of impeachment, calls process "a dangerous attack"

President Trump's defense team released their arguments on Saturday for the impeachment trial in the Senate starting next week — and House Democrats quickly labeled the president's response as fundamentally wrong.

What they're saying: Trump's full response to House Democrat's case for impeachment argues the articles "violate the Constitution" and are "defective in their entirety." His defense further characterized the impeachment process as "nothing more than a dangerous attack on the American people themselves and their right to vote."

Trump's legal team plans to argue the first article of impeachment, abuse of power, does "lasting damage to the separation of powers," and alleges there's no such violation of the law.

Trump's team also plans to argue that the president "was within his rights" to ignore requests from Congress for testimony and witnesses throughout the impeachment process, per CNN. House Democrats have indicted Trump for this action in their second article of impeachment — obstruction of Congress.

The other side: Trump's answer to articles of impeachment "is more like a fundraising email" than a statement addressing constitutional law, a Democratic aide working on the impeachment trial told reporters Saturday.

"This answer is not like any answer we've ever seen in an impeachment. The House and the Senate have done fifteen," the aide said. "If the following is not impeachable, nothing is impeachable."

Yeah... if I was going to try to provide fodder to get out of my own criminal problems, putting something on my calendar would be pretty easy to do. The guy is a flake, James. He is making statements that he cannot back up with any physical, electronic, or testimonial proof (other than his own claims).

The idea that the President of the United States would use a guy under investigation by the Feds to pass along important information to the Ukrainians in some sort of secret meetings doesn't even get to the point where the "laugh test" is even bothered to be used.

This is really the Julie Swetnick portion of the impeachment show... where someone comes along that is so entirely unbelievable, that comes at us with completely nonsensical unbelievable claims that obviously are meant to "confirm" other claims that were not being believed due to lack of evidence.

At a certain point in time, shady people making shady allegations takes away from the seriousness of the entire thing (if there is any seriousness left here).

Lev Parnas
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Trump–Ukraine scandal
In 2018, Parnas and Fruman hired Giuliani, the president's personal attorney, to serve as a consultant as the two, according to Giulani, were "ramping up" a security business with the felicitous name "Fraud Guarantee".(Parnas had chosen the name "Fraud Guarantee" in 2013 to clean up his Google search results after accusations of fraud in previous ventures.) Florida authorities had apparently dissolved Fraud Guarantee in September 2014 for failing to file an annual report, which would have limited the company to activities related to closing itself down.

The Republican donor, Trump supporter and Long Island attorney Charles Gucciardo paid Giuliani on behalf of Fraud Guarantee in two $250,000 payments, in September and October 2018.

Late in 2018, Giuliani allegedly sent the two to Ukraine to search for damaging information on Trump's U.S. political rivals. According to The New York Times, "Their mission was to find people and information that could be used to undermine the Special Counsel's investigation, and also to damage former Vice President Joseph R. Biden." Both were allegedly also at the center of the pro-Trump forces' push to remove Marie Yovanovitch, the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, because her loyalty to President Trump was deemed deficient as Trump pursued his agenda there. It is also alleged that the two pressed for support for allegations that former Ukrainian officials schemed to manipulate the 2016 election to support Hillary Clinton, by revealing adverse information about Paul Manafort, chairman of Trump's campaign, which became a central element in Mueller's special counsel investigation.

Also, over the course of a year beginning in 2018, the two men allegedly introduced Giuliani to Ukrainians who were amenable to promoting "a largely unsubstantiated narrative about the Bidens." These included Yuriy Lutsenko, a former Prosecutor General of Ukraine, who was critical to Giuliani's efforts to produce damaging information. Viktor Shokin, also a former Prosecutor General of Ukraine, was part of this group. Parnas and Robert F. Hyde reportedly exchanged messages indicating that then-Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch was under surveillance and that they were working to have her removed.

The New York field office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), along with SDNY prosecutors, are conducting a criminal investigation of Giuliani's relationship with Parnas and Fruman. Giuliani is under investigation for potentially violating lobbying laws. Parnas was initially being legally represented by John M. Dowd, who was Trump's personal attorney in the Mueller investigation in 2017-18, until he fired him and hired Joseph A. Bondy. Dowd initially represented Fruman as well.

On November 22, 2019, Parnas stated to CNN that he would be willing to testify to Congress regarding his, Representative Devin Nunes (R-CA), Giuliani's and Trump's role in the Ukraine affairs. Documents released to a watchdog group show communication took place between Giuliani and Pompeo shortly before Ambassador Yovanovitch was removed from her post. Memos from Giuliani to Pompeo regarding a Jan. 23, 2019, meeting with Ukraine's former prosecutor general Victor Shokin were included. Giuliani notes that Igor Fruman and Lev Parnas were present at the meeting. Shokin was ousted from his job in 2016 because of his lack of attention to corruption cases.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

In January 2020, an attorney for Parnas turned over photos, text messages and thousands of pages of documents to the House Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. Some text messages to Parnas from an associate, Robert Hyde, in March 2019 appeared to describe the surveillance of the American ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, in an effort to get her fired. Yovanovitch was recalled from Ukraine in April 2019, and Trump removed her from her post in May 2019.

On January 15, 2020, Parnas said in an interview by Rachel Maddow on MSNBC that "President Trump knew exactly what was going on." He also said that "Attorney General Barr was basically on the team" and conferred with Giuliani frequently.Arrest
Parnas and Fruman were arrested on the evening of October 9, 2019, at Dulles International Airport, and charged with planning to direct funds from a foreign government "to U.S. politicians while trying to influence U.S.-Ukraine relations". They had one-way tickets to Frankfurt, Germany, and were reported to be going to Vienna, Austria. The reason for their arrest was described as a "complex web of financial and political interactions linking diplomacy to alleged violations of campaign finance law." The head of the New York's FBI office described the investigation as "about corrupt behavior, deliberate lawbreaking".

The charges have also allegedly connected Parnas and Fruman to the campaign to oust the United States ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, from her post and have her recalled. This occurred over many months. In 2018, the operation included Parnas and Fruman donating funds and pledging further additional moneys to an unnamed Congressman, who was recruited for the "campaign to oust her." Some of the funds violated campaign limits. The funds were funneled through a shell company, Global Energy Producers. Parnas and Fruman were also charged with unlawful campaign contributions. Based on campaign finance filings, former congressional Representative Pete Sessions (R-Texas) has been identified as the unnamed Congressman. In 2018, as the Chairman of the House Rules Committee, Sessions wrote a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo saying that Yovanovitch should be fired for privately expressing "disdain" for the Trump administration.

January 15th, 2020 Parnas interview and documentary evidence released by House

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

On January 15th and 16th, 2020 MSNBC aired segments of an interview of Parnas conducted by Rachel Maddow. This was Parnas' first television interview regarding his involvement in the Trump-Ukraine scandal. During the interview, Parnas made several claims that have in part been corroborated by documentary evidence released by the House that same week. Elements of the interview including time lines that were cross-checked by some news organizations against event records such as the date Pence announced he would not be going to the Ukraine. White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, Pence spokesman Marc Short, and a Justice Department spokesman stressed the fact that Parnas was under indictment and therefore should not be believed. Trump repeated claims he didn't know Parnas, and denied he was aware of a key letter by Giuliani to the Ukrainian President wherein Giuliani claims he is acting on the behalf of Trump.

Letter May 10, 2019 from US President Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani to Ukrainian President Zelensky. The letter was provided to the House by Parnas.

Major claims made in the interview:
#1 "Trump knew exactly what was going on" and Parnas' efforts were coordinated with Trump's attorney Giuliani.

#2 Parnas met in the Ukraine with a top Ukrainian official and informed him he was speaking on the behalf of Trump, and that all aid to the Ukraine as well as attendance by Pence at the inauguration of the new Ukrainian President were contingent upon an announcement that Biden is being investigated.

#3 Pence was "in the loop" and knew the reason his trip to the Ukraine was cancelled after the Ukrainian government failed to comply with Trump's demand as communicated by Parnas.

#4 The motivation to get rid of the US Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch was to obtain dirt on Joe Biden. Specifically, former Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko claimed he would deliver dirt on "B" after a decision is made about "madam". This particular claim was backed by a March 22, 2019 text from Lutsenko that was released by the House and discussed in the interview.

#5 Ukrainian businessman Firtash claimed he could help discredit the Mueller investigation if charges against him were dropped.

#6 Regarding Congressman Devin Nunes, Parnas claimed he "met several times at the Trump Hotel" but that most of interaction were with Nunes' aide Derek Harvey. The claim Parnas made in the interview that "they were involved in getting all this stuff on Biden" was substantiated by records released by the House after the interview.

#7 Former Energy Secretary Rick Perry, who did attend the Ukrainian President's inauguration, informed the Ukrainians that there would be no aid unless an announcement was made to investigate Biden.
