There’s One Big Reason the U.S. Economy Can’t Reopen
The country faces the same problem today that it did two months ago: There are not enough tests to contain the virus.

Yet so far the country has failed to do so. More than 10 weeks into the coronavirus crisis, still too few Americans are being tested for the coronavirus, and the country’s testing capacity is not growing fast enough, according to data collected by the COVID Tracking Project, a volunteer initiative housed within The Atlantic. This week, the U.S. tested about 264,000 people a day, the highest level in the pandemic so far. But experts say that if the country hopes to get its outbreak under control, it must double or triple the number of daily tests. Some propose expanding testing more than 75-fold.

So let's be clear... there is no country in the world that is currently doing two or three times our amount of testing, much less 75 times.  In pure numbers, we have provided the most testing than any other country. Moreover, in spite of our pandemic starting much later (and thus our testing also starting much later) we are already up to pace with many of the European countries in terms of tests per million. Only Spain and Italy (the first two countries to get hit hard) have tested considerably more people per capita than we have, and those numbers are closing fast.

But this is where big government liberalism fails and fails miserably. Just like they do not quite understand that money doesn't grow on trees, they simply don't understand that the Federal Government and the entire bureaucracy that runs it is incapable of providing solid day to day functionality, much less figuring out how to go above and beyond what is generally thought of as crisis management. Their insistence that the Federal government (or any Federal government for that matter) is capable of just creating cures and pulling miracles out of their hats is the very naivety that makes them so very very dangerous.

Let's be clear. 99% of what is saving us today is our private industry, corporations, and the American front line workers in grocers, medical, and other businesses we needed to remain open. Here in Minnesota, we are looking at being able to give upwards of 40,000 tests a day because of the efforts of the Mayo Clinic and the University, not because our Federal or State government has come through. Most of our Federal and State government agencies and institutes are shut down as being nonessential. Try to get yourself a driver's licence test or even a renewal these days. Can't get it done if you cannot get it done on-line.

Moreover, contrary to the popular opinion of the liberal government worshipers, whatever failures we have had are institutional and predestined to happen. While we can question the overall game plan of the President and the task force all we want, the truth is that the CDC, and the affiliated agencies that are designed to deal with a medical crisis are hard coded into their current reality.

How does the Federal government simply "transform" itself into having tens of thousands of trained medical personnel that simply didn't exist six months ago?

The answer is that they don't, because they can't. That is not Trump's fault or the fault of anyone. It's simply a pie in the sky, grossly naive, childish, ridiculous concept of what our Federal government is about. To the degree that our Government has resource, they have all been put to work to the fullest capacity. But it simply isn't enough to pull cures and tests and all the miracles the liberals expect out of thin air. Reality dictates that we cannot  transform the untransformable with some form of better political "leadership"... or whatever it is that liberals are exactly arguing.

Yet, here we are; with Democrats arguing failure and demanding them to all be on President Trump. All while wanting to deny any economic relief to the very corporations and big businesses that were so essential throughout this thing. Bottom line is that private industry delivered (because they can) where Federal and State governments largely failed (as a matter of fundamental lack of ability). If not for private industry, our country may well have just collapsed.

For that, Democrats are more predisposed to punish and criticize both, than to reward and praise anyone. Why? Because believing wrong headed concepts about big government politics vs evil corporations comes before reality. Reality that sits there in plain sight for anyone willing to open their eyes.
