Minnesota manages the worst of both worlds...

So our Governor has accomplished the unaccomplishable.  He has managed to ruin our Minnesota economy in a manner that is far beyond what any of the the other upper mid-west states have seen, while still maintaining the highest Covid-19 death rate of any of the these same states.

Minnesota now stand at over 15.5% unemployment. Meanwhile:
 Wisconsin - 12%
 Iowa - 11.5%
 North Dakota - 11.4%
 Nebraska - 8%
 South Dakota - 6.1%

Meanwhile Minnesota has seen deaths at a rate or 8.6 per 100,000. Meanwhile:
 Iowa - 6.9
 Wisconsin - 6.2
 North Dakota - 4.1
 Nebraska - 4
 South Dakota - 3.3

It's truly amazing that we were able to come up with a response that  kills both people and jobs at a higher rate than any of our neighbors.

It’s long been clear the official numbers didn’t capture the coronavirus’ full toll in New York’s nursing homes — but the updated count was nonetheless appalling.

Yet Gov. Andrew Cuomo still won’t admit his administration was wrong to mandate that facilities filled with those most virus-vulnerable take in COVID-positive patients.

The new Health Department info released late Monday adds 1,700 presumed coronavirus deaths to the grim total, suggesting that COVID-19 complications have killed 4,813 residents of nursing homes and adult-care facilities — and that doesn’t include those who died in hospitals.

Cuomo downplayed the count Tuesday: “I would take all of these numbers now with a grain of salt,” since “what does a ‘presumed death’ mean, right?”

Considering how pessimistic Cuomo has been in other areas, such doubt seems self-serving. We know fatality rates are far higher than normal — and the coronavirus has proven most deadly to the elderly and those with certain preexisting conditions. Indeed, Cuomo admitted Tuesday, “We knew the nursing homes were going to be a target.”

Over 1,700 more coronavirus deaths reported in NY nursing homes
So why on earth did his health commissioner, Howard Zucker, force nursing homes to take in virus-positive patients starting March 25?

States that have taken better precautions have seen far fewer nursing-home deaths. With a nursing-home population of about 70 percent of New York’s, Florida has seen about 10 percent as many nursing-home deaths — albeit with far fewer COVID-19 deaths overall.

Florida opted for a less-stringent lockdown than New York — but Gov. Ron DeSantis focused attention on nursing homes from the start, and has strengthened those protections as the state begins to reopen.

No Sunshine State patient can be discharged from a hospital into a nursing home without a negative test result. Florida hospitals had already refused to send coronavirus-positive patients back; the new rule means even those who show no symptoms must be tested and confirmed negative.

A defensive Cuomo on Tuesday claimed the state had done “everything you can” to keep the coronavirus from spreading among New York’s seniors. But that’s just not true. And as the toll continues to rise, the gov still won’t reverse course and protect those most vulnerable to the pandemic.

BWAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

Nearly half of Americans believe the United States would be faring better in the current coronavirus pandemic if Barack Obama were president instead of Donald Trump, according to a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll.

The survey, which was conducted May 4-5, found that a wide plurality of adults (47 percent) think the hard-hit U.S. — where more than 1.2 million COVID-19 infections have been reported and more than 73,000 people have died — would be in better shape under Obama than under Trump.

Only 24 percent of Americans say the crisis would be the same; only 29 percent say it would be worse. And though partisans are predictably split — 79 percent of Democrats say Obama would have made things better while 67 percent of Republicans say he would have made things worse — a plurality of independents (45 percent) side with the Democrats.

The unfavorable comparison between the current president and his Democratic predecessor is one of the clearest signs to date of an emerging dynamic that will define the remainder of Trump’s term and the presidential election.

U.S. Field Hospitals Stand Down, Most Without Treating Any COVID-19 Patients

As hospitals were overrun by coronavirus patients in other parts of the world, the Army Corps of Engineers mobilized in the U.S., hiring private contractors to build emergency field hospitals around the country.

The endeavor cost more than $660 million, according to an NPR analysis of federal spending records.

But nearly four months into the pandemic, most of these facilities haven't treated a single patient.

brilliant.

Vast Majority Think It’s Too Soon to Reopen
May 8, 2020 at 7:17 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

“Americans, by a LARGE 30-POINT MARGIN, are resistant to re-opening the country now, believing the risk to human life of opening the country outweighs the economic toll of remaining under restrictive lockdowns — a concern that starkly divides along partisan lines,” according to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll.

Wonder if they would be feeling the same if they weren't getting their Trump checks. All I know is I'm glad Florida opened up and so far things are looking good.

You know people who don't want to go out are not forced to go out. They can still hide under their bed. But sooner or later they will run out of food, have a real need for a haircut and toenail trim and to go to a doctor, dentist, church, and any other service that will finally become essential to them.

Fairly soon not living won't be an option.

I really think this is what James wants more than anything.

Safety does not exist. As the United Nations points out in a new study of the economic consequences of these lockdowns, it is likely that hundreds of thousands of children will die from starvation from the predicted economic collapse. All roads lead to death.

But James is a "decent man" or so he told us.

I am decent enough to hope and pray this is not something that is about to get loose among us, killing children:

Leave to msn to find a child with a rare syndrome that may or may not have been aggravated by the virus (Notice they don't really say the virus caused the child's death.)

What we do know for sure is that children by and large are not only virtually immune to the virus, the chances of them spreading the virus is almost non-existent.

We know this because scientific studies were conducted in France and elsewhere on this very subject. Unlike to odd anecdotal story msn dug up.

Basically the scientific justification for keeping schools and playgrounds closed is non-existent. They are closed because of panic and fear in the home of the brave.

But you hope and pray they die of starvation while farmers in the US plow their crops under because they can't get them to market.

This is decency for James.

CORONAVIRUS
73 NY Children Sick With Rare COVID-Related Inflammatory Illness, 2nd Death Possibly Linked

New York City issued its own health alert earlier this week after identifying more than a dozen children in city hospitals who have the rare inflammatory illness; the state followed up with a separate advisory on Wednesday

What to Know
73 children in New York state have been diagnosed with a recently identified illness associated with COVID-19 that some doctors are referring to as " pediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome"

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Friday that a 5-year-old boy in New York City died Thursday from the condition -- he had no known symptons, but five days later he was on a ventilator -- and Westchester officials confirmed that a second death last week of a 7-year-old boy was under investigation

Doctors say in some cases, kids are taking up to 6 weeks after exposure to the virus to present symptoms of this illness

New York now has 73 cases of children presenting with a new pediatric multi-system inflammatory syndrome likely linked to COVID-19 -- and at least one child has died of the condition and a second death is under investigation, officials said Friday.

A complication of the coronavirus the state had not even acknowledged a week ago, this new condition is now being seen across the country and is striking newborns and teenagers alike.

At a Westchester County news conference Friday, doctors said some children are not presenting with symptoms until 4 to 6 weeks after exposure to the virus. County officials said a 7-year-old boy died there last week of this new condition.

Later the same day, Westchester officials clarified reporting may be too preliminary to determine whether the 7-year-old boy died from COVID-19 complications or other underlying medical issues.

The state issued an advisory on the syndrome and its potential association with COVID-19 in children Wednesday afternoon. It was sent to all healthcare facilities, clinical labs and local health departments in the state to inform providers of the condition as well as to provide testing and reporting guidance. Any suspected cases of pediatric multi-system inflammatory syndrome in people under the age of 21 must be reported to the State Department of Health.

As the advisory stated, "Though most children who get COVID-19 experience only mild symptoms, in the United Kingdom, a possible link has also been reported between pediatric COVID-19 and serious inflammatory disease. The inflammatory syndrome has features which overlap with Kawasaki disease and toxic shock syndrome and may occur days to weeks after acute COVID-19 illness. It can include persistent fever, abdominal symptoms, rash, and even cardiovascular symptoms requiring intensive care. Early recognition by pediatricians and referral to a specialist including to critical care is essential."

New York City issued its own health alert earlier this week after identifying more than a dozen children in city hospitals who have the rare illness. At least one expert believes there are sure to be more kids affected.

The syndrome has been observed in 15 children who were hospitalized from April 17 to May 1 in the city, according to Demetre Daskalakis, the Deputy Commissioner of Disease Control with the New York City Health Department. While the full spectrum of the illness is not yet known, Daskalakis said, features of Kawasaki disease and toxic shock have been seen in patients between the ages of 2 and 15.

I guess those of you who advocate an immediate starting up of the schools consider this an acceptable way of "thinning the herd."
