The questions people should be asking...

Pretty much anyone can step up and tell someone that they are doing something wrong. It's not hard to be critical, especially if you do not feel any need to provide an alternative. When I was managing and training managers, one of my favorite things to do was to ask the "complainer" who thought we were doing something wrong, to come up with a better plan to present to the team. I would generally put them in charge and ask that they present their solutions to the group at the next meeting.  It is amazing how much that requirement (to come up with an alternative) reduces the incentive to complain.

This is sort of how I view what is happening right now. Everyone has an idea of what we are doing wrong, some even have an idea about what we should have done differently from the start. But very few seem to really have a handle on what we should be doing moving forward, other than to complain that we are doing it wrong.

So instead of asking whether or not we are "ready" to open the country back up, shouldn't we first require the naysayers to explain what actually needs to be in place before we open, tell us how long that is going to take, and then have them explain how they intend (with almost no Federal funds available) bring us out of this mess economically.

It's easy to provide some generic concept about "more testings" without telling us how that helps. It's easy to suggest that we need to wait two more weeks, because we are not ready today. But the question that really "needs" to be asked is what is going to be specifically different if we open up next month as opposed to next week? What are we exactly buying with these short term delays other than economic devastation.  Every day that goes by, someone loses a job, another business closes, another mortgage is missed, another credit card is maxed, another savings is depleted, and another life is ruined.

If we truly looked at the very real devastation occurring every single day that only grows exponentially, it seems sort of crazy that we continue to remain under lock downs, without anyone really explaining to us how it will be medically different in two weeks, or three weeks, or even a month?

If the idea is to wait this out till there are no more new cases or until some sort of cure or vaccine, then fine. Provide that as your solution and tell us that the economy is going to collapse and you are okay with that. But as long as there are cases (and there will be for some time) and as long as there is not a cure or a vaccine (which is months away) the reality remains the same.

Either the virus going to spread again once we reopen... or it's not.  We need to find out one way or the other.

Moreover, someone needs to provide very simple explanations as to what exactly will be different if we wait another week or another two weeks or another month. Unless someone can explain that, then I suggest that they keep their "complaints" to themselves.

It seems to me the medical experts Fauci and Birx and others have been doing exactly what you are asking them to do. They seem quite certain that a too precipitous opening up of the country would probably result in disaster, and any opening should be done with great care and slowly, all the time recognizing that cases and deaths are continuing and a too precipitous roll back in distancing will open us up to surges in cases and in deaths.

When you say, "Either the virus going to spread again once we reopen... or it's not. We need to find out one way or the other,"
you make it sound as if you would be in favor of a grand experiment to see whether deaths again start soaring. It sounds as if you are in favor of some grand reopening of much of the country just as a sort of experiment. It sounds as if the economy is more important to you than life.

Fauci persuasively argues that a precipitous lessening of distancing requirements could result in a soaring of the number of cases and deaths that would ultimately hurt the economy even more than it will be hurt by acting more carefully.

I don't know how he could have made that any clearer than he did in a recent statement I quoted here.

The Failed Experiment of Social Distancing

https://amgreatness.com/2020/05/04/the-failed-experiment-of-social-distancing/

Yeah this has just been one huge failed experiment.

Without even any scientific study to justify.

Just the "opinion" of "experts".

Who have changed their opinions.

And has taken a huge toll on the world.

That is exactly what I am in favor of...

Since, one way or the other, this grand experiment is going to happen.

We know for a fact that people suffer irreversible financial harm, if not total financial devastation, every day we remain shut down.

We don't know one way or the other if reopening is going to cause problems or not... and nobody (not Fauci, Birx, or anyone else) can tell us what sort of difference waiting another two weeks is going to make.

But pretty much everyone can tell us (with a great deal of certainty) how this is affecting people financially and we can certainly guarantee more financial devastation the longer we wait.

What is the alternative, Reverend?

Like Governor Pritcher... you want to wait till there is a cure or a vaccine (both of which are months away if even possible).

James is a singularly vicious, cynical politician, he's hoping the lock down will inflict as much pain as possible on the people so that they will turn their backs on Donald Trump and to Joe Biden.

I think he's going to be disappointed (which would be his just deserts) but if he's not you will see how quickly he changes his tune.

Imperial College UK just released a derivative of Professor Doomsday's model code. He's the 1 who projected 2 million dead in US+panicked world into lockdown.

Fmr senior engineer at Google:

"All papers based on this code should be retracted immediately."

Obviously he wasn't concerned for himself.

But hey, it got him laid.

Cuomo says it’s ‘shocking’ most new coronavirus hospitalizations are people who had been staying home

Cuomo said nearly 84% of the hospitalized cases were people who were not commuting to work through car services, personal cars, public transit or walking. He said a majority of those people were either retired or unemployed. Overall, some 73% of the admissions were people over age 51.

He said the information shows that those who are hospitalized are predominantly from the downstate area in or around New York City, are not working or traveling and are not essential employees. He also said a majority of the cases in New York City are minorities, with nearly half being African American or Hispanic.

Cuomo said state health officials had thought a high percentage of people who were hospitalized would be essential employees, like health-care workers or city staff, who are still going to work.

Besides killing the economy stay at home is killing people.

They are too afraid to get help. And I doubt they are all due to coronavirus. More likely it is a heart attack or stroke.

The lock down is doing more harm than good.

All of a sudden, Ch no longer wants to follow the medical advice of the experts he has so long been touting.

Seems Ch realizes that Trump's way of handling all this has been hurting him and Ch wants Trump to be reelected no matter what the costs in human life.

It's not going to work, I think.

NEW YORK TIMES:
Coronavirus In America Looks Like This

“More than a month has passed since there was a day with fewer than 1,000 deaths from the virus. Almost every day, at least 25,000 new coronavirus cases are identified, meaning that the total in the United States — which has the highest number of known cases in the world with more than a million — is expanding by between 2 and 4 percent daily.

“Rural towns that one month ago were unscathed are suddenly hot spots for the virus. It is rampaging through nursing homes, meatpacking plants and prisons, killing the medically vulnerable and the poor, and new outbreaks keep emerging in grocery stores, Walmarts or factories, an ominous harbinger of what a full reopening of the economy will bring."

Sorry Reverend...

Tired of your lying and games... my state was one of 30 identified BY THE TASK FORCE as having parts of the state ready to start reopening...

My Governor took that as an excuse to shut us down for two more weeks across the board and reemphasize that his doctors are telling him something different.

It would be better if you actually were informed on this crap... rather than believe the task force is run by Taegan Goddard. But you taking your head out of his ass would be way too much work for you.
