While I didn't see much on twitter regarding the state of Florida yesterday, I did see several examples of people exclaiming that Mississippi was the new hot spot on the news that they reported 1265 new cases and 35 new deaths. The issue here is that Mississippi has not been reporting daily numbers, and what was reported yesterday was a cumulative total of the previous five days. Ahem.

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN, New York City
(WABC) -- A man who randomly pushed a woman into a subway car at a station in Brooklyn Wednesday is in custody and facing charges.
It happened on the Coney Island-bound platform of the DeKalb Avenue station in Downtown Brooklyn around 7:40 p.m.
The man was caught on video saying "What? What?" as he pushed two men on the platform, before pushing the unidentified woman into the stopped subway train, knocking her head onto the side of the car.
She did not require medical attention and did not file a police report, but police decided to proactively seek out known subway recidivists and see if any of them are responsible for the incident.
Authorities announced later Thursday afternoon that Isaiah Thompson, a 28-year-old transit recidivist offender, was arrested in connection to the incident.
Thompson was charged with assault, felonious reckless endangerment, menacing and criminal trespassing.
Thompson had previously been charged in connection to three out of 37 incidents of pulling emergency brakes on the New York City subway.

I just saw another video of Thompson being led away by police in handcuffs. He did not look happy, and in view of the video and his record, I assume he has reason to not be happy. He did something totally callous and without justification, and he will be punished rather severely for it, I believe.

The past two innocent black victims of police "brutality" had both been arrested over ten times, both charged multiple times, and neither had spent all that much time in prison.
By all accounts, Rayshard Brooks would have still been in prison if he had actually been required to serve even a reasonable portion of his previous sentence (7 years and he barely served 1).
So while I have no doubt that this particular person was arrested by the police multiple times. The system makes it almost impossible to keep these same people off the streets... and it comes to a point where they probably think they are untouchable.
Now Brooks actually knew better, since he knew another drunk driving offense would actually land him back in prison (at least for a few months). Which is likely why he struggled like he did.

NBC News WASHINGTON — Dr. Anthony Fauci said today that the federal government is trying to expand testing, not slow it down it as President Donald Trump has suggested in recent days.
In testimony before the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Fauci was asked about the president’s recent comments and whether he agrees that it makes sense to limit the number of COVID-19 tests.
“It's the opposite, we're going to be doing more testing, not less,” said Fauci, the nation's top infectious diseases expect, who has played a key role in the Trump administration’s response to the pandemic.
Fauci said that to his knowledge, “None of us have ever been told to slow down on testing — that just is a fact.
"It's the opposite. We're going to be doing more testing, not less," he added.
Fauci's comments come in stark contrast to Trump’s remarks Saturday, when he told a crowd of his supporters at his first campaign rally in months that he wanted to slow down testing for the coronavirus.
"Testing is a double-edged sword," said Trump, who added that the U.S. has conducted 25 million tests. "When you do testing to that extent, you’re going to find more people, you’re going to find more cases, so I said to my people, 'Slow the testing down, please.'"
The coronavirus threat right now, Fauci said, is a “mixed bag” because the U.S. has been “hit badly” with more than 120,000 deaths and 2.5 million infections.
While he credited the New York metropolitan area with bringing down the number of positive cases and reopening its economy carefully, he said other parts of the country are now experiencing “a disturbing surge of infections.”
“The way you address that — and I’ve said this over and over again — is you have to have the manpower, the system, the testing to identify, isolate and contact trace in an effective way so that when you see those increases, you can understand where they're coming from. And you can do something about them,” he said.
The other witnesses testifying at the hearing include Adm. Brett Giroir, the administration’s coronavirus testing coordinator, FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield.
Giroir said in his opening statement that the U.S. has conducted more than 27 million tests and is now averaging 500,000 a day. He said that "the need for testing is greatest" now that the country is reopening....
House Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, D-N.J., said in his opening statement Tuesday, “Testing has been a problem since the beginning, and while it’s improved, we are still falling far short of the 900,000 daily tests public health experts believe we need. We are also hampered by the administration’s refusal to develop and implement a national testing and contact tracing strategy.”

Biden to participate in three debates with Trump
The Republican National Committee announced Saturday that the Trump campaign, RNC and joint fundraising committees raised $74 million in May, a record for them in monthly fundraising. But for the first time in this election cycle, Joe Biden and the DNC brought in more money in a month than Mr. Trump, with Biden's campaign reporting a more than $80 million cash haul in May.
Mr. Trump maintains a massive cash war chest. According to the RNC, its entities had $265 million cash on hand at the end of last month after raising more than $817 million over the course of the 2020 election season so far.
While the Biden campaign has not yet released its cash on hand total for the end of May, as of April, the former vice president was facing about a $100 million disadvantage to the president.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Dozens of Republican former U.S. national security officials are forming a group that will back Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, people familiar with the effort said, in a further sign that President Donald Trump has alienated some members of his own party.
The group will publicly endorse Biden in the coming weeks and its members plan to campaign for the former vice president who is challenging Trump in the Nov. 3 election, the sources said. It includes at least two dozen officials who served under Republican Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, with dozens more in talks to join, the sources added.
They will argue that another four years of a Trump presidency would endanger U.S. national security and that Republican voters should view Biden as the better choice despite policy differences, the sources said.

News broke during the 7 p.m. ET hour on Monday that Seattle’s mayor said the violence was distracting from changes sought by thousands of protesters seeking to address racial inequity and police brutality – but CNN’s 7 p.m. program, “Erin Burnett Outfront” did not mention the news as it unfolded.
CNN continued to ignore the news during its primetime programming, as there was no coverage on back-to-back editions of “Anderson Cooper 360” from 8-10 p.m. ET or during Don Lemon’s “CNN Tonight,” which aired from 10-midnight ET.
“Most mainstream media outlets have bent over backwards to portray the civil unrest as peaceful actions supporting the general aims of justice. That narrative gets largely disrupted if those news organizations now focus on the chaos in places like Seattle,” DePauw University professor and media critic Jeffrey McCall told Fox News.
“Thus, they ignore or downplay recent acts of lawlessness so as to not have to backtrack or explain away the simplistic manner in which they have covered events of recent weeks,” McCall said.
CNN did manage to briefly mention CHOP on Monday night, but only to note that Washington D.C. protestors were emulating Seattle’s police-free zone.
MSNBC completely ignored CHOP altogether from 7-midnight ET on Monday, as “MSNBC Live,” “All in with Chris Hayes,” The Rachel Maddow Show,” “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell and “The 11th Hour with Brian Williams” all declined to report the news of Seattle’s CHOP possibly drawing to a close.
