Officer Shay Mikalonis, 29, of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department was in critical condition on life support after the suspect, identified as Edgar Samaniego, allegedly fired at officers from across the street on Las Vegas Boulevard while the officers were attempting to disperse a group of protesters near the Circus Circus casino, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
I get trying to control the narrative here. This is why Minnesota still has a man who broke no laws in jail right now, pending possible "attempted assault charges" because his legal path on a legal highway was blocked by illegal protesters illegally shutting down a highway. People are desperately attempting to deflect blame and criticism to those police officers and pretty much anyone who is white and "not" protesting or rioting.
But it's getting out of hand, when you attempt to minimize the idea that police officers have been shot and killed by rioters, or make it out as if we are having "several isolated" situations (as described by one journalist) that are not indicative of the protests as a whole.
Well why don't we provide the same narrative and benefit of the doubt that what Derek Chauvin did was actually way more "isolated" than the multitudes of violent and destructive actions of the current rioters. Why don't we praise the police force in general for the job that they do every day, rather than praise those protesters who are able to resist killing, looting, or destroying things... as if that is some sort of accomplishment.
The double standard of judging all police by the actions of a very few, while pretending that the thousands of violent rioters are not indicative of the protests as a whole is hypocrisy on steroids.

I do not condone murder in any form of anyone or by anyone. I DO condemn the way Ch uses anything he can find to soften the offensiveness of what we clearly saw done to one black man as he begged to breathe, and the fact that that is an example of the systemic racial prejudice on the part of too many American officers of the law (not the one in the video above).
A police officer shot in the head is horrible. But far too many times blacks have been shot BY POLICE OFFICERS, like the man running away who was shot in the back repeatedly BY AN OFFICER OF THE LAW WHO LATER TRIED TO COVER UP WHAT HE HAD DONE. And he ABSOLUTELY WOULD HAVE GOTTEN AWAY WITH IT IF A VIDEO DID NOT EXIST. THAT IS ONE THING THAT HAS NOW CHANGED. THE EXISTENCE OF RECORDED IMAGES.
This has happened so many times in the past that we are now trying to mandate that police officers must wear body cams so that we can better determine what really happens when deadly force is employed by them.
Good officers welcome that. Bad ones do not (and even leave the cams off, as recently happened.)

Now he has shown himself to be completely indifferent to the fact that cops are being shot and killed during these violent looting and destructive riots. Finding political considerations to be way more important than the things that are being destroyed and the lives that are ruined and lost all together.

EVERYONE has condemned this. But the left wants to OWN this and make political hay against Republicans. It sure appears blacks are just pawns in their eyes.
And in my eyes real solutions need to look at why this officer wasn't fired before, he had a history.
And also some real perspective and education needs to occur on how white versus black police treat blacks versus other racial groups and how many whites are killed versus blacks (even in percentages). Don't have those numbers handy but I did see them fairly recently.

Charges are being upgraded to Second Degree Murder.
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is increasing charges against Derek Chauvin to 2nd degree in George Floyd’s murder and also charging other 3 officers. This is another important step for justice.
Three more former Minnesota police officers will be charged in the killing of George Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man who died after an officer kneeled on his neck during an arrest.
The office of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison plans to charge Tou Thao, Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng on Wednesday with aiding and abetting Floyd’s murder, according to reporting by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that HuffPost confirmed with a law enforcement source.
The Hennepin County prosecutor had already arrested Derek Chauvin, the former police officer seen kneeling on Floyd’s neck, last week, charging him with third-degree murder and manslaughter. Ellison’s office is also planning to announce that it would be upgrading the third-degree murder charge to second-degree murder.
Thao, 34, Kueng, 26, and Lane, 37, are charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. The first count has a maximum possible sentence of 40 years in prison, while the manslaughter-related count has a 10-year maximum prison sentence.
