I have been avoiding Facebook for the most part and quite frankly have been slowly losing interest in the platform for some time. But after hearing about the social media "shaming" that was "requiring" everyone to post a black rectangle on their social media, I went out for curiosity sake.
First of all, the bulk of my Facebook friend group are moderate to liberal. My wife's family and many of our mutual Seattle friends are mostly liberal. Many of my college friends are liberal. Most of my musician friends also happen to be liberal. Some of my cousins are more conservative, as is my brother and his family. I honestly had no idea where most of my co-workers and other friends stood.
Not too surprisingly I saw more "political" style messages than I am used to seeing, but surprisingly they were not what I suspected I would see. First, I saw no "black rectangles" in support of BLM. In fact I saw very little support at all for BLM or the protests. I saw the usual suspects who are generally politically active still active, including a long winded post by one person detailing his own "action" he took in regards to his displeasure with the police. Of course, there was the obligatory attacks on the President by a couple of other FB friends who have a long history of such things.
But for the most part I saw frustration with the rioting, frustration with the lock downs, and a surprising amount of support for law enforcement. I saw several blunt posts with pictures of rioting and some form of caption that suggested if you thought this was okay, to immediately unfriend them. There was a much more open drive from many of my moderate and conservative friends to condemn the violence and destruction than I ever would have expected. It's almost as if they are not "ashamed" to back up law enforcement or condemn riots.
Moreover, there wasn't a single person whom I otherwise would not have expected that was posting anything negative about the police, the President, or otherwise being supportive of BLM or the protests. But I saw multiple people who were doing the opposite, whom I never suspected would step up and say anything controversial, much less something that might get you labeled in today's society as racist.
So what's the point?
Well the point is that my personal reality and my 300-400 friend list is quite obviously a huge aberration from the general public... because according to everything I read, every poll that is published, and every liberal pundit you hear from, I should have seen at least a few people who would now be out in favor of BLM, riots, and are suddenly voicing displeasure with the President. Certainly I should have not seen ANYONE who is taking an opposite view. There is no conventional wisdom, no polling, and nobody of importance reporting that ANYONE is actually standing with the police, standing for their freedom to leave their homes, or anyone who is actually against the rioting.
But it begs the question. Who are these people who used to support the President and now have decided not to. They don't exist with anyone I talk to. Nobody here on this blog has changed their minds. None of the other bloggers I read have changed their minds. These former Trump supporters apparently don't exist in my extended Facebook world. Certainly they don't exist with any of my 9600 plus Twitter followers. But if I am to believe the polls, at least one out of every ten of these people have changed their minds about supporting the President and are bound and determined to cast a vote for Dementia Joe Biden? Of course, oddly these people always seem to change their minds "back" about a week or so before the election, but I digress.
I wonder out loud, why these people who have obviously changed their minds (because polling is never wrong)... are pretending to still support the police, law and order, and the President?
It's a flipping mystery!

If you limit you telephone polling to selected area codes you get some interesting results in the poll.
Maybe it has something to do with those whom you call friends and who call you a friend.
New York Times:
Trump’s Self-Sabotage Worries Aides
June 17, 2020 at 5:13 pm EDT
“They say his repeated acts of political self-sabotage — a widely denounced photo-op at a church for which peaceful protesters were forcibly removed, a threat to use the American military to quell protests — have significantly damaged his re-election prospects, and yet he appears mostly unable, or unwilling, to curtail them.
“Mr. Trump doesn’t want to be seen as a ‘loser,’ a label he detests, in the campaign against Joe Biden… But for now, they said, the president is acting trapped and defensive, and his self-destructive behavior has been so out of step for an incumbent in an election year that many advisers wonder if he is truly interested in serving a second term."
Also interesting:
“Mr. Trump has also become consumed, once again, with leaks from the White House, demanding that officials find and prosecute those responsible for information getting out about his trip to the bunker beneath the White House during unruly protests.”
HE WANTS TO BLAME ANY ONE AND EVERY ONE BUT HIMSELF.
Bolton’s Book Paints ‘Withering Portrait’ of Trump
The New York Times got an early copy of John Bolton’s book, The Room Where It Happened, which President Trump is suing to block.
“While other books by journalists, lower-level former aides and even an anonymous senior official have revealed much about the Trump White House, Mr. Bolton’s volume is the first tell-all memoir by such a high-ranking official who participated in major foreign policy events and has a lifetime of conservative credentials. It is a withering portrait of a president ignorant of even basic facts about the world, susceptible to transparent flattery by authoritarian leaders manipulating him and prone to false statements, foul-mouthed eruptions and snap decisions that aides try to manage or reverse.
“Mr. Trump did not seem to know, for example, that Britain is a nuclear power and asked if Finland is part of Russia, Mr. Bolton writes. He came closer to withdrawing the United States from NATO than previously known. Even top advisers who position themselves as unswervingly loyal mock him behind his back.”

JOHN BOLTON:
Trump Asked China to Help Him Win Re-Election
“President Trump asked Chinese President Xi Jinping to help him win the 2020 U.S. election, telling Xi during a summit dinner last year that increased agricultural purchases by Beijing from American farmers would aid his electoral prospects, according to a damning new account of life inside the Trump administration by former national security adviser John Bolton,” the Washington Post reports.
Writes Bolton:
“He then, stunningly, turned the conversation to the coming U.S. presidential election, alluding to China’s economic capability to affect the ongoing campaigns, pleading with Xi to ensure he’d win.
"He stressed the importance of farmers, and increased Chinese purchases of soybeans and wheat in the electoral outcome. I would print Trump’s exact words but the government’s prepublication review process has decided otherwise.”
Bolton’s book also portrays Trump as an “erratic” and “stunningly uninformed” commander in chief, and lays out a long series of jarring and troubling encounters between the president, his top advisers and foreign leaders.

Trump Agreed with Xi That U.S. Holds Too Many Elections
In an excerpt of his book provided to the Wall Street Journal, John Bolton claims President Trump “nodded approvingly” when Chinese President Xi Jinping suggested the United States held “too many elections.”
Writes Bolton:
“One highlight came when Xi said he wanted to work with Trump for six more years, and Trump replied that people were saying that the two-term constitutional limit on presidents should be repealed for him. Xi said the U.S. had too many elections, because he didn’t want to switch away from Trump, who nodded approvingly.”

"Several Atlanta Police officers have reportedly walked off the job at precincts across the city. The claim comes hours after charges were filed against ex officer Garrett Rolfe and Officer Devin Brosnan in the Rayshard Brooks’ case.
The buzz of patrol officers staging walkouts and refusing to answer calls from Precincts 3,5,6 and others began circulating social Wednesday evening. CBS46 confirmed the walkout through sources at 8:30 p.m."

_______
Who had egg on his face after you predicted I would be absolutely DEVASTATED by Obama's defeat?
Well Reverend...
I was running this as a projection blog during both the 2008 and 2012 elections and successfully predicted 99 out of 100 states correctly between the two elections.
I don't recall anyone in the projection business actually believing McCain or Romney would win. At least not as an actual projection provided at the time of the election.
That differs substantially from 2016, where everyone and their brother suggested that Clinton would win, possibly in landslide fashion. Moreover, it was the first election I refused to project because I correctly suggested that the polling simply couldn't be trusted.
So I think it would be prudent to wait until at least September or October before we actually start to talk about the Presidential election. Bunker Biden will need to come out of hiding eventually and allow the electorate to get a good look at him, and no doubt we will have a whole new set of circumstances a few months down the road.
Four years ago.... Trump was polling in the mid-30s in hypothetical matchups with Clinton.
