A protest is either peaceful or it's not...

Does anyone really believe that burning a courthouse and attacking police officers is peaceful?

Oh wait... we have liberals here. Of course some of you believe that if the media chooses to "describe" something as peaceful, that of course then it must actually be peaceful. After all, the media is always honest and truthful.

July 26, 2020. A new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds Trump’s approval for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic FALLING TO A NEW LOW, WITH JUST 32% OF AMERICANS SUPPORTIVE OF HIS APPROACH. Even Trump’s standing on the economy, long the high water mark for the president, has fallen over the past few months after seeming ascendant earlier this year.

· The AP-NORC poll makes clear the challenge ahead for Trump on that front: 8 IN 10 AMERICANS SAY THE COUNTRY IS HEADING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. That’s more than at any point since Trump took office. THE POLL ALSO FINDS [JUST 38% OF AMERICANS SAY THE NATIONAL ECONOMY IS GOOD](https://apnews.com/94661751e6ab400384b957052bc197c1), DOWN FROM 67% IN JANUARY, before the pandemic upended most aspects of everyday life.

· Overall, 38% of Americans approve of the president’s job performance — well within the narrow range that Trump’s approval ratings have stayed throughout this presidency, but down slightly from earlier this year before the pandemic. Most Republicans — 81% — approve of Trump’s job performance, BUT JUST 68% OF REPUBLICANS SUPPORT HIS HANDLING OF THE PANDEMIC.

· Privately, Trump’s political aides and allies have spent months trying to sound the alarm bells for the president, warning that he could lose the Midwestern battlegrounds he carried in 2016, as well as some reliably red states, if the trajectory — both of his campaign and the virus — continues.

· One of the most concrete signs that Trump recognized he had gone off course came this month, when he demoted longtime campaign manager Brad Parscale, replacing him with experienced GOP operative Bill Stepien.

Now, though, Trump is no longer a novelty but an incumbent running for reelection, his approval ratings are a shade above 40 percent, he’s trailing the 77-year-old Democratic warhorse Biden by double digits in polls, and the gap seems to be widening. And if you’re looking for a single date that exemplifies the contrast between this campaign and that one, you might zero in on July 27.

In retrospect, it’s a day that’s emblematic of the zeal his campaign was busy whipping up at this juncture in 2016—and a reminder, too, of a major reason his reelection effort is so conspicuously groping now. Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic is what’s principally sinking his approval ratings and chances at the ballot box, but it’s true as well that all but gone is so much of what fueled Trump’s bid four years back—the freewheeling ability to hopscotch the country, the long lines and the packed venues, the relentless trolling of his equally mobile rival. These tools he used to foment such fervor have been rendered moot, at this point in 2020 his rapid-fire rallies less frequent, less full, tele-bland or outright postponed, and his pined-for convention coronation called off on account of Covid-19.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

And the stakes are plain. “The face-to-face, in-person rally is really what got him elected,” said Stainbrook, the GOP head from Toledo. “So how does he make up for the fact that he’s so good live, so good at these rallies, but now he’s—I don’t want to use the word crippled—what’s the word I’m looking for?—he’s at a disadvantage. He’s at a disadvantage where he cannot have these because of Covid. So it definitely is going to hinder parts of the campaign. Sere, now I sound like a treasonous asshole, but … it’s the truth.”

I hope this book will end the practice of referring to Donald’s “strategies” or “agendas” as if he operates according to any organizing principles. He doesn’t. Donald’s ego has been and is a fragile and inadequate barrier between hm and the real world, which, thanks to his father’s money and power, he never had to negotiate by himself. Donald has always needed to perpetuate the fiction my grandfather started that he is strong, smart, and otherwise extraordinary, because facing the truth – that he is none of those things – is too terrifying for him to contemplate.
Donald, following the lead of my grandfather and with the complicity, silence, and inaction of his siblings, destroyed my father. I can’t let him destroy my country.

Some more good news.

Virus vaccine put to final test in thousands of volunteers

The world’s biggest COVID-19 vaccine study got underway Monday with the first of 30,000 planned volunteers helping to test shots created by the U.S. government -- one of several candidates in the final stretch of the global vaccine race.

There’s still no guarantee that the experimental vaccine, developed by the National Institutes of Health and Moderna Inc., will really protect.

The needed proof: Volunteers won’t know if they’re getting the real shot or a dummy version. After two doses, scientists will closely track which group experiences more infections as they go about their daily routines, especially in areas where the virus still is spreading unchecked.

I’m excited,” Harting said before she received a study injection Monday morning. Especially with family members in front-line jobs that could expose them to the virus, “doing our part to eradicate it is very important to me.”

Several other vaccines made by China and by Britain’s Oxford University began smaller final-stage tests in Brazil and other hard-hit countries earlier this month.

But the U.S. requires its own tests of any vaccine that might be used in the country and has set a high bar: Every month through fall, the government-funded COVID-19 Prevention Network will roll out a new study of a leading candidate -- each one with 30,000 newly recruited volunteers.

The massive studies aren’t just to test if the shots work — they’re needed to check each potential vaccine’s safety. And following the same study rules will let scientists eventually compare all the shots.

A vaccine could be ready as early as October.

WASHINGTON — Joe Biden leads President Donald Trump by 7 points in the key swing state of North Carolina, according to a new NBC News/Marist poll, with voters also favoring Democratic Senate and gubernatorial candidates and saying by 2 to 1 that the state was right to balk at the Trump administration's Charlotte convention plans over concerns about coronavirus safety protocols.

Among registered voters, Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, got the support of 51 percent, compared with 44 percent who backed Trump. In March, Biden had a 4-point advantage in a head-to-head matchup, 49 percent to 45 percent.

Are Fake News Polls Hiding a Potential Trump Landslide?

Listen to network or cable news and you will hear that the November election is over. Joe Biden has a growing double-digit lead over President Trump, despite the election being over three months away and the issues that may decide the election largely unknown at present.

What do the polls say? Biden’s campaign manager, also known as CNN, has their “poll of polls” described as, “the five most recent national telephone polls measuring the view of registered voters.” Considering that only 58 percent of eligible voters went to the polls in 2016, CNN’s “poll of polls” may not be particularly representative of the electorate.

CNN’s headline screams déjà vu, “Biden maintains a double-digit lead over Trump nationally.” That’s it then, the election is over. Trump supporters may as well pack it up and stay home. At least that is what they want you to believe.

Four years ago, the media was singing the same tune. On June 26, 2016, Time reported, “Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton holds a double-digit lead over presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump.” How did that turn out?

To Clinton’s credit, despite her falls, bizarre facial tics, needing to be carried into a van, and overall unlikability, she was generally coherent. Unlike Biden who can’t get through a scripted interview without saying something incoherent, as he recently claimed his campaign attorneys are reaching out to “voter registration physicians.”

Perhaps he was referring to the next Nolan Ryan, baseball pitcher Dr Fauci, who through his ever-changing recommendations is seeking to influence the election in a way Russia could only dream of.

Let’s look at CNN’s gaggle of polls. The Washington Post – ABC News poll sampled 1,000 adults. Not likely voters, not registered voters, not even eligible voters, just whoever answered the phone. They also oversampled Democrats by 6 percentage points and their sample contained 399 Trump supporters compared to 522 Biden supporters, over a 25 percent advantage for Biden.

It’s no wonder their survey found Biden favored over Trump 54 to 39 percent, reflecting the sample. Is this designed to inform or influence the electorate?

DNC Hits Trump on Trying to Reopen Schools
July 27, 2020 at 10:17 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

“The Democratic National Committee is launching a new offensive on President Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic with a focus on the thorny issue of reopening schools, rolling out a television ad on Monday as parents and educators across the country express widespread concern ahead of the new school year,” CNN reports.

From the ad:
“Other countries followed guidance.
He ignored science.
Desperate to reopen schools because he thinks it will save his reelection,
threatening their funding,
ignoring how the virus spreads,
risking teachers’ and parents’ lives,
going against the advice of experts.”

It ends with the narrator asking,
“Do you trust him to do what’s best for our children? Because this is not a test. Trump is failing,”
after which Trump can be heard saying:
“I aced it. I aced the test.”

Who knew that a potential medical treatment could become politicized? In the era of Donald Trump, nothing is beyond the media’s scope, it seems. After Trump expressed optimism in the drug Hydroxychloroquine as a coronavirus treatment, the media quickly mobilized to discredit it (on the sole basis of the person having recommended it being Trump).

By April a massive partisan divide in opinion on the drug had opened up, with more than twice as many Republicans than Democrats saying they’d be willing to try the drug if neccesary.

The Lancet and The New England Journal of Medicine both published highly publicized studies that discredited the efficacy of the drug in fighting coronavirus – which were both retracted not-long after in June after questions were raised about the research, and both refused to provide the underlying data for an audit.
---------------
btw the Brazilian president took Hydroxychloroquine and has recovered.

We are fortunate indeed to have real world results that we can look at for how well or how poorly governing philosophies and agendas work. America’s major cities have been dominated by the Democratic Party for decades, and the results are in.

All but 3 of America’s largest cities are run by Democratic mayors. The 3 largest cities – New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, are losing population every year.

Several of the most violent cities in America, including Albuquerque, Memphis, Detroit, Chicago and Washington, DC are run by Democrats.

States that are bleeding population every year due to high taxation, over-regulation, decaying cities and failing public services including New York, Connecticut, California and others are all run by Democrats.

States that have low to no income taxes, are right-to-work and favor energy development do better economically than high tax, forced union and energy unfriendly states. According to the annual economic outlook rankings published by the American Legislative Exchange Council Center for State Fiscal Reform, in 2019 the bottom ten states were all run by Democrats and the top 10 states except two were run by Republicans.

I am unconcerned that we have different politics. I do not think less of you because you voted one way and I voted another. We need people to vote and the candidate we select is not always going to win. It is hoped that we will have someone who is competent enough to run our country. That didn’t happen in the last election. We got a thin-skinned egomaniac who has never been held accountable for any atrocities he has committed.

Let me be clear. I think less of you because you watched an adult mock a disabled man in front of a crowd and you still supported him. I think less of you because you saw a man spouting clear racism and you cheered for him. I think less of you because of your willingness to support someone who openly admires dictators and demonizes the press and anyone who criticizes him. I think less of you because you heard him advocate for war crimes and you still thought he should run this country. I think less of you because you watched him equate a woman’s worth to her appearance and you thought that was okay. You watched, along with the rest of the nation, as he separated families and locked innocent children in dog cages and you were not horrified as the rest of us were. You refuse to accept the fact that this man wants to work with dictators but has alienated our long standing allies. I think less of you because you refuse to review the facts and accept that this man is lying to you on a daily basis. It isn’t your politics I find repulsive. It is your willingness to support racism, sexism, misogyny, and cruelty that I find repulsive. You supported a tyrant and bully when it mattered and that is something I will never forgive or forget. Your lack of morals and basic humanity are devastating to me.

There are some things I can never be civil about: concentration camps, genocide, white supremacy, misogyny, harm to children, mass trauma, state violence, rising fascism, to name a few. There is NO civil discussion with someone who agrees with putting Children in Dog Cages.

So, no...you and I will never be “Coming together” or move forward together United. Trump literally Disgusts Me. I hate the sound of his voice Spewing hate and dividing the Country but, the fact that he doesn’t Disgust you is something that is going to stick with me long after this Presidency. July 08, 2020. “The ad, which superimposed video of Biden kneeling at a church in Delaware last month on to the snippets from Allahverdi’s footage, IS BASED ON A PAIR OF LIES: that the protesters who tackled the man were bent on violence and that Biden, who HAD ALREADY STATED, “I DON’T SUPPORT DEFUNDING THE POLICE,” would enable their reign of terror.”
· THROUGH DECEPTIVE EDITING, two recent campaign ads for President Donald Trump FALSELY PORTRAY law-abiding Black Lives Matter protesters WHO ACTED TO PREVENT VIOLENCE as dangerous thugs plotting to “unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities.”
· The Trump campaign ads mislead viewers by distorting the meaning of video recorded during a protest in Washington, D.C. on May 31 by Safvan Allahverdi, a reporter for Turkey’s state-owned Anadolu news agency.
· Ten days later, however, the Trump campaign released an ad that used images from the news footage — of the man hammering the pavement and part of the scuffle after he was tackled — to offer voters a glimpse of the “chaos in the streets” former Vice President Joe Biden would supposedly permit by failing “to stand up to the radical leftists fighting to defund and abolish the police.”
· The ad, which superimposed video of Biden kneeling at a church in Delaware last month on to the snippets from Allahverdi’s footage, is based on a pair of lies: that the protesters who tackled the man were bent on violence and that Biden, who had already stated, “I don’t support defunding the police,” would enable their reign of terror.
· Apparently emboldened BY GETTING AWAY WITH THIS GROSS DISTORTION OF THE TRUTH ONCE, the Trump campaign misused the same video a second time in another ad released last week. In the second ad, which offers a vision of a future world in which the police have been abolished — and calling 911 only gets you the recording: “Due to defunding of the police department, we’re sorry, but no one is here to take your call” — the footage of the man breaking up the pavement and being tackled appears as a caller to the police emergency line hears the automated instruction, “to report a murder, press 2.”
· Dave Weigel of The Washington Post was the first to report the misleading use of Allahverdi’s footage in the most recent ad, which suggests, absurdly, that wait times for emergency response to incidents of murder or rape would be 5 days “in Joe Biden’s America.”
· The new ad, which places the incident in Washington alongside video of arson in Minneapolis, and images of looting and vandalism, ALSO DISTORTS THE MEANING OF ANOTHER CLIP RECORDED DURING THE RECENT PROTESTS.
· In a section of the ad where the 911 caller hears, “If you’re calling to report a rape, please press 1,” the images that appear on-screen show two New York police officers running through a crowd of protesters. That footage appears to have been recorded just above East 14th Street in New York’s Union Square, where, on May 28, the police, including those wearing the distinctive NYPD bike outfit seen in the ad, were caught on camera from multiple angles BEHAVING AGGRESSIVELY AND USING EXCESSIVE FORCE TO ARREST DOZENS OF PROTESTERS for civil disobedience as they demanded justice for George Floyd.

In fact, roughly two-thirds of all minimum-wage jobs in America are held by women. Repealing Obamacare or starting a trade war with China won’t do anything to make these Americans’ lives better. But raising the minimum wage would. It would help a lot. So would a large program to build and repair our bridges, tunnels, roads, ports, and airports and expand high-speed internet access to neglected areas.

Hyper-nationalism. This attribute is not confined to fascism, but it is central to all fascism. Trump regularly promises to put America first and extolls the virtues of ordinary Americans (by which he often seems to mean white Americans). His trade policy qualifies as economic nationalism. By the standards of American politics, he is a hyper-nationalist, but by the standards of historical fascism, he is not in the upper echelon. Two Benitos.

2. Militarism. Fascists routinely lionized military institutions and military virtues, and at least rhetorically sought military solutions to political issues. Trump lavishes praise on the troops, as almost all American politicians do these days, and he has proposed (in vague and vulgar terms) a militaristic solution to the problem posed by the Islamic State. He has recommend taking the oil of the Middle East, which presumably would require armed force. But by and large, Trump does not blithely recommend military action and often lambastes his rivals for allegedly incompetent military adventurism. He does not dress his followers in ersatz military garb. Two Benitos.

3. Glorification of violence and readiness to use it in politics. Fascists such as Mussolini thought violence could cleanse and redeem a tarnished nation. They encouraged loyal thugs to rough up, and occasionally kill, people whose politics differed from theirs. Trump scores low here. His rallies, according to many reports, have a frisson of menace to them; he has said things that could be interpreted asinvitations to assassination; his followers often speak longingly of violent acts they wish to see committed against others; he has recommended using torture and killing the families of terrorists. But this still leaves him well short of the standard of Mussolini’s blackshirts or Hitler’s brownshirts, who not only called for political violence but resorted to it extensively. One Benito.

4. Fetishization of youth. Fascist movements, even when led by middle-aged men, always extolled the vigor and promise of youth and made special efforts to appeal to young people. Trump, as a septuagenarian, is ill-positioned here. He has no special youth organization to speak of. His most devoted followers are long in the tooth. Zero Benitos.

5.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

5 Fetishization of masculinity. Fascists trumpeted what they saw as masculine virtues and supported male authority within family and society, urging women to confine their sphere to home and children (the more of which the better). Trump shares much of this outlook, lauding his own stamina and accusing his femalerival, Hillary Clinton, of lacking it. He mocks men whom he deems deficient in virility. But whereas Mussolini liked to hold up his own mother, devoted to home and hearth, as the feminine ideal, Trump’s vision of the proper woman seems to be a supermodel, more in line with Hugh Hefner’s ideology than Mussolini’s. Nonetheless, on swaggering machismo he gets full marks. Four Benitos.

6. Leader cult. Fascists always looked to a leader who was bold, decisive, manly, uncompromising and cruel when necessary — because the parlous state of the nation required such qualities. Mussolini and Hitler, both veterans of World War I, drew their models of leadership from army officers and worked hard to polish their images as dauntless rulers beholden to no one. They encouraged their followers to idolize them as Il Duce and der Führer. They claimed special insight into the will of the people. Trump, although not a war veteran, fully embraces the cult of the leader. He offers his business experience as evidence of his decisive leadership and is very testy when his business acumen is doubted. He also claims to channel the common man, enjoying a connection all other politicians lack. Four Benitos.

They had remained friends in the 20 years since, but in this Congressional struggle, in a city regarded as a showcase of black power and achievement, the contest between the two black men became bitterly divisive.

Mr. Lewis charged that an official in Mayor Andrew Young's administration had solicited contributions for the Bond campaign from city contractors. Mr. Bond denied ''any hint of impropriety in my campaign.''

In a radio debate Saturday, he accused Mr. Lewis of ''McCarthyism and demagoguery'' for challenging him to take the urinalysis drug test advocated by the Reagan Administration.

Democrats Feel They Can Expand House Majority

“With public polls showing Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee, ahead nationally by double digits – and even leading Trump in red states such as Texas, Arizona and North Carolina – Democrats feel increasingly confident that they will be able to expand their majority in the House.”

A Sneak Peek at the Democratic Convention
July 27, 2020 at 12:47 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

Playbook:
“The Democratic Convention — Aug. 17 to Aug. 20 — will be live from 9 P.M. to 11 P.M. each evening, with one or more speakers appearing nightly from a swing state, including Wisconsin.”

Said Stephanie Cutter:
“It has turned into an almost 100% virtual convention. Speakers are participating from all over the country, not just politicians. Expect more of everyday Americans saying what’s on their minds and less scripted content.

“The roll call will occur across all 50 states and seven territories.”

SOUNDS EXCITING.

Trump Caves--AGAIN!

Trump Tweets Support of Bill He’s Threatened to Veto
July 27, 2020 at 11:57 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

“President Trump shared tweets Monday from Republican senators touting the benefits of a $740 billion defense authorization bill — legislation he has threatened to veto if it retains a provision instructing the Pentagon to rename military installations honoring Confederate generals,” the Washington Post reports.

“His Twitter activity was the latest twist in Trump’s efforts to simultaneously claim credit for legislation authorizing pay increases for troops and other investments in the military while waging a battle over what he has characterized as an effort to erase U.S. history.”

Among other things, he wants to erase that part of history where he predicted a quick and easy triumph over the virus that is now triumphing over him.

What he needs to do is an EO ordering anyone illegally voting in the future to be deported or jailed and ordering states to ensure only legal votes are counted.

Other than some decent beer and food, I’m not sure why we need to keep Portland or Seattle around anyway. Let the riots continue and see just how badly the woke white liberals want to still pretend that they’re far-left progressives. Once the violence spills over into tonier neighborhoods — and it will — a lot of the “down with the struggle” Democrats might just decide that they’re done playing hippies from 1968 and get the hell out of Dodge.

A point I’ve been making over and over this year is that these liberal cities need to feel the pain of electing childish leftists. When your police chief is imploring your mayor to not proceed down a path of lawless madness and the mayor is ignoring her, it’s time for the idiots who voted for that mayor to wallow in some harsh reality and consequences for a while. Riot on and see how that works out for you.
