Protests appear to be the cause of the increase in cases

While the Media Blame Florida Governor for the Covid Spike, the Evidence Proving It Was Due to Protests Keeps Mounting
The state of Florida, and its Governor, Ron DeSantis, in particular, has been a frequent target of the media scorn. This is because the state has had, on balance, a better-than-average success rate with cases and COVID-related deaths. Accusations of cooking the books, or offsetting victims to other states have been a few of the charges made to explain a GOP governor having a better-than-Cuomo result with handling the pandemic.
Now, as the state, like many others, is seeing a rise in new cases, the blame in the press is heaped on DeSantis opening things up too early — except for the collection of evidence and testimony showing the protests from last month appear to be a primary cause. A number of examples from the leaders in South Florida declare that the weeks of public activist gatherings have been a driving force behind the increased infection rates.
Following that, the Mayor continued with that line of thought. “I think, obviously, the protests had a lot to do with it. We had, you know, thousands of young people together outside, a lot of them not wearing masks. And we know that when you’re – when you do that and you are talking and you are chanting, etc, that really spreads the virus.”
“Last month, or perhaps less than a month ago, we had gotten down to where we had no employees in the police department sick with the virus.” Colina said. “Now I have 31 officers yet again who are COVID positive, I have 6 civilian employees who are COVID positive and I have 115 people quarantined right now because of COVID. Many of the officers that I have sick were part of those protest response teams. That’s not acceptable.”

So basically the major Florida outbreak is not in the panhandle or upstate or anywhere that you might think about those evil conservatives hanging out at BBQs or family gatherings. The outbreak is fairly consistent with the counties from Miami and other areas that hosted the protests.

Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Hillsborough, and Orange are reporting the bulk of the new cases, which are all major counties associated with either Miami (first three) or Tampa Bay (Hillsborough) or Orlando (Orange). All of these cities had protests and or marches that would be consistent in time-line with the increase in cases.

Ironically Tallahassee (a larger city up in the pan handle area) is part of Leon country which has had only a fraction of the new cases that the larger liberal counties have had. In fact, they had only 41 new cases yesterday out of over 7000 state-wide.

But don't look at that, folks. Keep blaming the evil conservatives for all of this... even as there is no indication that they have anything to do with it.

In case it’s still unclear.

400 years ago white people brought black people over here and enslaved them. And sold them. And treated them as less than human. For 250 years. While white men built the country and created its laws and its systems of government. While 10, 15 generations of white families got to grow and flourish and make choices that could make their lives better.

And then 150 years ago white people "freed" black people from slavery. But then angry white people created laws that made it impossible for them to vote. Or to own land. Or to have the same rights as white people. And even erected monuments glorifying people who actively had fought to keep them enslaved. All while another 5, 10 generations of white families got to grow and accumulate wealth and gain land and get an education.

And then 60 years ago we made it "legal" for black people to vote, and to be "free" from discrimination. But angry white people still fought to keep schools segregated. And closed off neighborhoods to white people only. And made it harder for black people to get bank loans, or get quality education or health care, or to (gasp) marry a white person. All while another 2-3 generations of white families got to grow and pass their wealth down to their children and their children's children.

And then we entered an age where we had the technology to make PUBLIC the things that were already happening in private-- the beatings, the stop and frisk laws, the unequal distribution of justice, the police brutality (police began in America as slave patrols designed to catch runaway slaves). And only now, after 400+ years and 20+ generations of a white head start, are we STARTING to truly have a dialog about what it means to be black.

White privilege doesn't mean you haven't suffered or fought or worked hard. It doesn't mean white people are responsible for the sins of our ancestors. It doesn’t mean you can’t be proud of who you are.

It DOES mean that we need to acknowledge that the system our ancestors created is built FOR white people.

It DOES mean that Black people are disadvantaged because of the color of their skin and it DOES mean that we owe it to our neighbors-- of all colors-- to acknowledge that and work to make our world more equitable.🖤

BLACK LIVES MATTER! 🖤

To the editor: We confront a moral and constitutional crisis unlike anything I have seen in my 73 years. President Trump's actions with regard to Russia are exponentially more dangerous than Watergate or President Bill Clinton lying about sex.

We must believe our own eyes, and they are showing us that our president is a traitor to the fundamental principles of American democracy and may even be a traitor to the country. He has facilitated an ongoing attack on our republic, most recently by doing nothing in response to the horrifying scheme by Russia to have American soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

There is a principle in science that when confronted with compelling facts, the simplest explanation is probably the correct one. In the law there is a similar doctrine: "The thing speaks for itself." We must admit that the simplest explanation for Trump's conduct is the correct one.

Trump's actions speak for themselves: He could be one of the greatest traitors in the history of our country.

In the book, Mary Trump makes several revelations, including alleging that the president paid a friend to take the SATs — a standardized test widely used for college admissions — in his place. She writes that his sister, Maryanne had been doing his homework for him, but she couldn’t take his tests. Donald Trump worried that his grade point average, which put him far from the top of the class, would “scuttle his efforts to get accepted” into the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, which he transferred to after two years at Fordham University in the Bronx.

“To hedge his bets he enlisted Joe Shapiro, a smart kid with a reputation for being a good test taker, to take his SATs for him. That was much easier to pull off in the days before photo IDs and computerized records. Donald, who never lacked for funds, paid his buddy well.”

And she writes, in awe, of Trump's ability to gain the support of prominent Christians and White Evangelicals, saying, “The only time Donald went to church was when the cameras were there. It’s mind boggling. He has no principles. None!”
. . .

“The atmosphere of division my grandfather created in the Trump family is the water in which Donald has always swum, and division continues to benefit him at the expense of everybody else. It’s wearing the country down, just as it did my father, changing us even as it leaves Donald unaltered,” she wrote. “It’s weakening our ability to be kind or believe in forgiveness, concepts that have never had any meaning for him.”

why cases are not going up "across the state" and why the outbreaks just coincidentally are happening in the counties and cities where there was protests?

Because if it truly was because of the opening of malls and shops, then there should be a consistency with the increase in new cases everywhere that the malls and shops opened.

Do you understand what "per capita" even means?

In this particular example Miami Dade had 2066 mew cases.

Ends up being about one per 1300 people in that county

Leon county had 41 cases

End up being about one in 7300 people.

So There are 50 times more raw cases in Miami Dade

And 5 times as many cases per person.

So you are 5 time more likely to have tested positive for Covid in Miami Dade than in Leon county.

Not that I would expect that you would understand.

Benedict Arnold Trump notified Congress and the Secretary-General of the United Nations today that the United States is officially withdrawing from the W.H.O. That's right, in the middle of a horrible pandemic, with over 130,000 Americans already dead, the traitor is insisting on withdrawing from a worldwide health organization that tracks and studies such virus strains...including the flu.

But there is good news on the horizon....A State Department official also confirmed that "the United States' notice of withdrawal, won't be effective until July 6, 2021, has been submitted to the UN Secretary-General, who is the depository for the WHO." That means Joe Biden can reverse this idiocy with the stroke of a pen....well before the withdrawal takes place

Donald Trump, Narcissist

Ms. Trump, a,clinical psychologist, asserts that her uncle has all nine clinical criteria for being a narcissist. And yet, she notes, even that label does not capture the full array of the president’s psychological troubles.

“The fact is,” she writes, “Donald’s pathologies are so complex and his behaviors so often inexplicable that coming up with an accurate and comprehensive diagnosis would require a full battery of psychological and neurophysical tests that he’ll never sit for.”

At another point she says: “Donald has been institutionalized for most of his adult life, so there is no way to know how he would thrive, or even survive, on his own in the real world.”

Like other critics of the president, Ms. Trump takes issue in the book with the notion that Mr. Trump is a strategic thinker who operates according to specific agendas or organizing principles.

“He doesn’t,” she writes. “Donald’s ego has been and is a fragile and inadequate barrier between him and the real world, which, thanks to his father’s money and power, he never had to negotiate by himself.”

Trump is a failure

By Paul Krugman

When did America start losing its war against the coronavirus? How did we find ourselves international pariahs, not even allowed to travel to Europe?

I’d suggest that the turning point was way back on April 17, the day that Donald Trump tweeted “LIBERATE MINNESOTA,” followed by “LIBERATE MICHIGAN” and “LIBERATE VIRGINIA.” In so doing, he effectively declared White House support for protesters demanding an end to the lockdowns governors had instituted to bring Covid-19 under control.

As it happens, the Democratic governors Trump was targeting in those tweets stood firm. But Republican governors in Arizona, Florida, Texas and elsewhere soon lifted stay-at-home orders and ended many restrictions on business operations. They also, following Trump’s lead, refused to require that people wear masks, and Texas and Arizona denied local governments the right to impose such requirements. They waved away warnings from health experts that premature and careless reopening could lead to a new wave of infections.

And the virus came.

The initial outbreak of Covid-19, centered on New York, should have taught us to be wary. Rising rates of infection can seem like a minor concern at first, especially if you don’t have adequate testing, until they explode with terrifying speed.

But neither Republican politicians nor the Trump administration was willing to heed that lesson. By the second week of June new Covid-19 cases were surging in Arizona and clearly on the rise in Texas. Yet the governors of both states dismissed calls for a pause in reopening, insisting that things were under control.

And on

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

And on June 16, of course, The Wall Street Journal published an opinion article by Vice President Mike Pence declaring that there wasn’t and wouldn’t be a coronavirus second wave. Given the Trump administration’s track record, this virtually guaranteed that the wave was about to hit. And so it was.

Over the past three weeks things have quickly gotten very grim. Hospitals in Arizona and Texas are in crisis. And, yes, it was premature reopening that did it, both directly and by sending a signal to individuals that the risk was past.

But why did America bungle Covid-19 so badly?

There has been a fair bit of commentary to the effect that our failed pandemic response was deeply rooted in American culture. We are, the argument goes, too libertarian, too distrustful of government, too unwilling to accept even slight inconveniences to protect others.

And there’s surely something to this. I don’t think any other advanced country (but are we still an advanced country?) has a comparable number of people who respond with rage when asked to wear a mask in a supermarket. There definitely isn’t any other advanced country where demonstrators against public health measures would wave guns around and invade state capitols. And the Republican Party is more or less unique among major Western political parties in its hostility to science in general.

But what strikes me, when looking at America’s extraordinary pandemic failure, is how top-down it all was.

Those anti-lockdown demonstrations weren’t spontaneous, grass-roots affairs. Many were organized and coordinated by conservative political activists, some with close ties to the Trump campaign, and financed in part by right-wing billionaires.

And the rush to reopen in Sunbelt states was less a response to popular demand than a case of Republican governors following Trump’s lead.

The main driving force behind reopening, as far as I can tell, was the administration’s desire to have big job gains leading into November, so that it could do what it knew how to do — boast about economic success. Actually dealing with the pandemic just wasn’t Trump’s kind of thing.

In that case, however, why has Trump refused to wear a face mask or encourage others to do so? After all, wider use of masks would be one way to limit infections without shutting down the economy.

Well, Trump’s vanity — his belief that wearing a mask would make him look silly, or mess up his makeup, or something — has surely played a role. But it’s also true that masks remind people that we haven’t controlled the coronavirus — and Trump wants people to forget that awkward fact.

The irony is that Trump’s willingness to trade deaths for jobs and political gain has backfired.

Reopening did lead to large job increases in May and June, as around a third of the workers laid off as a result of the pandemic were rehired. But Trump’s job approval and electoral prospects just kept sliding.

And even in purely economic terms the rush to reopen is probably failing. The last official employment number was a snapshot from the second week of June; a variety of short-term indicators suggest that growth slowed or even went into reverse soon afterward, especially in states where Covid-19 cases are spiking.

In any case, the point is that America’s defeat at the hands of the coronavirus didn’t happen because victory was impossible. Nor was it because we as a nation were incapable of responding. No, we lost because Trump and those around him decided that it was in their political interests to let the virus run wild.

Paul Krugman Now Has Nobel Disease

There is a somewhat tongue-in-cheek, though still quite real, phenomenon known as "Nobel Disease." For some reason, many people who have won a Nobel Prize went on to become infamous for saying and believing incredibly stupid things, some of which are quite delusional.

Two explanations seem most likely. First, a person who wins a Nobel Prize may begin to think that all of his ideas are prize-worthy. As a result, like being intoxicated with alcohol, a Nobel laureate may feel less inhibited to blurt out whatever is on his mind. Second, it's possible that Nobel laureates are a bit kooky to begin with; earth-shattering ideas often don't come from pedestrian minds.

The newest inductee into this dubious club is Paul Krugman, the Nobel Prize-winning economist and columnist for the New York Times. Recently on Twitter, he insinuated that Donald Trump may orchestrate a 9/11-style attack to boost his presidency.

For lack of a better word, that is insane.

It is estimated the asteroid entered Earth's atmosphere traveling at a speed of about 33,500 miles per hour. During its quick plunge, the 220-million-pound space rock heated the air surrounding it to 44,500 degrees Fahrenheit. At 7:17 a.m. (local Siberia time), at a height of about 28,000 feet, the combination of pressure and heat caused the asteroid to fragment and annihilate itself, producing a fireball and releasing energy equivalent to about 185 Hiroshima bombs.

Among the revelations and allegations:

Mary Trump paints Donald Trump's father, Fred Trump, as emotionally abusive and as having caused lasting damage to both her father, Fred Trump Jr., and to the future president, his younger brother. "The only reason Donald escaped the same fate is that his personality served his father’s purpose. That’s what sociopaths do: They co-opt others and use them toward their own ends — ruthlessly and efficiently, with no tolerance for dissent or resistance," she wrote. "Fred destroyed Donald, too, but not by snuffing him out as he did Freddy; instead, he short-circuited Donald’s ability to develop and experience the entire spectrum of human emotion. By limiting Donald’s access to his own feelings and rendering many of them unacceptable, Fred perverted his son’s perception of the world and damaged his ability to live in it."
Donald Trump had no issue cheating his way to success. He would have his eldest sister, Maryanne, do his homework for him, and hired a ringer to take his SAT test for him, the book says. "To hedge his bets (Donald) enlisted Joe Shapiro, a smart kid with a reputation for being a good test taker, to take his SATs for him. That was much easier to pull off in the days before photo IDs and computerized records. Donald, who never lacked for funds, paid his buddy well," Mary Trump wrote.
"For some of the Trump kids, lying was a way of life, and for Fred’s oldest son, lying was defensive — not simply a way to circumvent his father’s disapproval or to avoid punishment, as it was for the others, but a way to survive," Mary Trump wrote. "For Donald, lying was primarily a mode of self-aggrandizement meant to convince other people he was better than he actually was."
After her father had the heart attack that would kill him, Mary Trump said Donald Trump didn't go with him to the hospital and didn't go to visit, and instead had "gone to the movies."
Mary Trump acknowledged helping The New York Times with its prize-winning investigation into the president's tax history. "I hadn’t fully grasped how much of a risk I was taking. If anybody in my family found out what I was doing, there would be repercussions — I knew how vindictive they were - but there was no way to gauge how serious the consequences might be," she wrote. "I had to take Donald down."
Maryanne Trump Berry, the president's sister. wasn't exactly supportive of his 2016 campaign. "He's a clown," the now-retired federal court judge told Mary, according to the book. “This will never happen.” Mary said she told her aunt she couldn't believe people were buying his claim that he was a self-made man, and questioned what he'd ever accomplished on his own. “Well," the aunt replied, “he has had five bankruptcies.”
A Roman Catholic, Berry was irate that evangelicals were supporting her brother, and questioned what was "wrong with them." “The only time Donald went to church was when the cameras were there. It’s mind-boggling. He has no principles. None!” the book quotes Trump's sister as saying.

Trump Says He’ll Pressure Governors to Open Schools

President Trump said the White House would put pressure on governors to get schools opened in the fall amid rising coronavirus cases in the United States, The Hill reports.

“Multiple White House officials are privately expressing frustration over President Trump’s recent embrace of a message stoking racial and cultural divisions,” NBC News reports.

“Some Trump allies are telling him that he has a better argument to make and to focus on his accomplishments in office and offer sharp criticism of his opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden.

“But Trump — four months away from facing voters in his re-election bid and trailing Biden in the polls — is ‘going with his gut’ and ‘relying on instinct,’ as two officials put it.”

CALIFORNIA DEMOCRATIC SEN. Kamala Harris is widely seen as a front-runner for a spot on the ticket with presumptive nominee Joe Biden, with vetting well underway.

Presidential vetting operations have entire teams of investigators, but for the public, when the pick is announced, the most common source for information about the person chosen is Wikipedia. And there, a war has broken out over how to talk about Harris’s career.

At least one highly dedicated Wikipedia user has been scrubbing controversial aspects of Harris’s “tough-on-crime” record from her Wikipedia page, her decision not to prosecute Steve Mnuchin for mortgage fraud-related crimes, her strong support of prosecutors in Orange County who engaged in rampant misconduct, and other tidbits — such as her previous assertion that “it is not progressive to be soft on crime” — that could prove unflattering to Harris as the public gets to know her on the national stage. The edits, according to the page history, have elicited strong pushback from Wikipedia’s volunteer editor brigade, and have drawn the page into controversy, though it’s a fight the pro-Harris editor is currently winning.

FARRELL: Benghazi Terror Attacks Led To Crossfire Hurricane
In the last week, Judicial Watch released eighty new pages of documents relating to the September 11, 2012, terrorist attacks on U.S. government facilities in Benghazi, Libya, in which Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed. The new release shows top Obama White House officials scrambling to “evolve” their false claims that the attack began “spontaneously” in response to an anti-Muslim YouTube video. This was part of a coordinated campaign to “reinforce” President Obama and to portray the Benghazi consulate terrorist attack as being “rooted in an Internet video, and not a failure of policy.”

The Benghazi lie was pushed heavily by then-UN Ambassador Susan Rice, who was dispatched to five Sunday morning political talk shows to peddle the YouTube video falsehood.
Meanwhile, then-Deputy National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes, then-NSC spokesman Tommy Vietor, and then-Deputy Chief of Staff Jake Sullivan were joking about how clever they had sold their damage control to a credulous press corps.

An official whose name is redacted writes, “Everyone know [sic] Susan was using not just [Intelligence Community] approved guidance, but IC created.” Rhodes jokes to Sullivan and the redacted officials, “At least you’re only a liar. Could be worse – we’re liars and also allegedly leakers.” “We’re only lying footsoldiers,” Sullivan replies. “You’re lying masterminds. That’s cooler.”

“I prefer that we go by henchmen,” a redacted official riffs. “Has more of a Marvel comic sinisterness to it.” He then jokes about the need for a cable TV show called “The Biggest Liar” where the contestants wear polygraphs under questioning. “It could be worse,” Rhodes writes, “You could be a career bureaucrat whose greatest thrill in life is leaking half-truths, self-justifications and outright lies to the likes of Eli Lake, Kim Dozier, and whoever picks up the phone at Fox News.”
They also discuss long-term plans for releasing an “evolving assessment” of the attack “which happens to be true (unlike just about everything else we’ve seen reported on Benghazi.)”

The level of smug arrogance revealed in these emails is beyond anything we have yet seem from the remarkably condescending Obama team. It is also important to note the complete emotional detachment from the tragedy that took place, the deaths of four Americans at the hands of terrorists, and the pain and grief suffered by their families. Not only were these swamp dwellers lying about what happened, they were inordinately proud of themselves for getting away with it.

The new records also contain correspondence between disgraced FBI agent Peter Strzok and various officials as part of the Midyear Exam investigation into Hillary Clinton’s illegal email server
. One April 2016 memorandum of note between Strzok and Robert Zanger, of the DOJ’s Office of Records Management and Policy, noted that a search of the DOJ’s email gateway for any email between DOJ accounts and the @clintonemail.com domain turned up empty because “the server log is maintained for a period of two years,” and Clinton had been out of office for three. How convenient.

Virus Updates: US Tops 3 Million Cases; WHO Says Airborne Transmission Evidence Not Yet ‘Definitive'
Tuesday, Jul. 07, 2020 | Updated 8:16 PM PDT
The United States continues to see a massive outbreak of the new coronavirus as the total cases reached 3 million Tuesday, according to a tally from NBC News. Confirmed cases are on the rise in 41 out of 50 states plus the District of Columbia, and the percentage of tests coming back positive for the virus is increasing in 39 states.

Miami-Dade County, the epicenter of Florida's coronavirus boom, ordered restaurants and gyms closed again Monday because of a rise in confirmed coronavirus cases and hospitalizations. Several areas in California, including Los Angeles and San Diego, have also reversed course on reopening plans.

White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said Monday the average age of those diagnosed with COVID is now 15 years younger than the first surge of cases in the spring in New York, New Orleans and Chicago, CNBC reported.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

path to the White House for Republican presidential candidates almost always goes through the suburbs.

Since 1972, every GOP candidate elected president has won the suburban vote, according to exit polling. That's Richard Nixon in 1972, Ronald Reagan in 1980 and 1984, George H.W. Bush in 1988, George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004 and, yes, Donald Trump in 2016. (Trump beat Hillary Clinton 49% to 45% among suburban voters.)

(Sidebar: Mitt Romney in 2012 was the only Republican presidential candidate to win the suburban vote -- 50% to 48% over Barack Obama -- and lose the election).

That correlation should be deeply concerning to not just Trump but any Republican on the ballot right about now.

Why? Because the revolt against Trump in the suburbs, which was at the center of Democrats' retaking of the House majority in the 2018 midterms appears to be showing no signs of slowing.

Tweeted David Wasserman, the House editor at the Cook Political Report, a non-partisan campaign tipsheet:

"What should really frighten down-ballot Rs: Trump is trailing Biden by 7-9% more than he lost the popular vote in 2016, but because there are so many urban cores where Trump had little room to fall in the first place, the drop is likely even larger in swing suburban districts."

What Wasserman means -- in laymen's terms -- is this: Trump is behind Joe Biden by somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 to 12 points in most national polling. Which is a whole lot more than the 3-ish points he lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton -- even while winning the Electoral College (and the White House) in 2016.

And because Trump did all that while getting swamped in urban areas -- Clinton beat him by 26 points in 2016 -- Wasserman's contention (ands he's right) is that the further decline in Trump's standing in a general election ballot against Biden is almost certainly the result of losses in suburban areas.

A Trump collapse in the suburbs -- losing them by 5 points or more -- would not only almost certainly cost him the White House. It would also badly jeopardize any Republican in a suburban House district or a Senate seat in a state with a large suburban population.

The Point: Lose the suburbs and Trump loses the election. It's that simple.

Lines for coronavirus tests have stretched around city blocks and tests ran out altogether in at least one site on Monday, new evidence that the country is still struggling to create a sufficient testing system months into its battle with Covid-19.

At a testing site in New Orleans, a line formed at dawn. But city officials ran out of tests five minutes after the doors opened at 8 a.m., and many people had to be turned away.

In Phoenix, where temperatures have topped 100 degrees, residents have waited in cars for as long as eight hours to get tested.

And in San Antonio and other large cities with mounting caseloads of the virus, officials have reluctantly announced new limits to testing: The demand has grown too great, they say, so only people showing symptoms may now be tested — a return to restrictions that were in place in many parts of the country during earlier days of the virus.

“It’s terrifying, and clearly an evidence of a failure of the system,” said Dr. Morgan Katz, an infectious disease expert at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The US is hurtling toward 3 million recorded Covid-19 cases, hundreds of scientists have signed a letter warning about the dangers of airborne transmission, and a new model has projected a total of 200,000 Americans may die by November unless almost everyone wears a face mask. Oh, and the school year is just weeks away. President Trump has urged schools to reopen despite widespread concerns about testing and safety logistics, and Florida has mandated that all schools must reopen in the fall even though the state has become a major coronavirus hotspot. Meanwhile, Dr. Anthony Fauci says he doesn’t believe there will be a federal mandate for people to get a coronavirus vaccine once one becomes available. In Australia, Melbourne is now under a six-week lockdown as the country battles another wave of coronavirus cases. And in Brazil, President Jair Bolsonaro announced he has tested positive for the virus. He’s been criticized for downplaying the seriousness of the pandemic for months.

Joe Shapiro — the man who took Trump’s SATs for him

The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School is being thrust into the spotlight after it was alleged that President Donald Trump was admitted after his sister did his homework for him and a friend named Joe Shapiro took his SATs.

In a new tell-all book by the president’s niece, Mary Trump, it was revealed that the Penn grad [Trump] wasn’t quite the “genius” he has claimed to be. He announced he was “first in his class at Wharton,” though he never was admitted to the prestigious MBA program at the school and he was never listed on the dean’s list the year he graduated, the Penn student newspaper reported in 2017.

“I recognize virtually all the names on that list,” 1968 Wharton graduate Stephen Foxman told the Daily Pennsylvanian. “And Trump just wasn’t one of them.”

“If he had done well, his name would have shown up,” Foxman said.

“To hedge his bets he enlisted Joe Shapiro, a smart kid with a reputation for being a good test taker, to take his SATs for him. That was much easier to pull off in the days before photo IDs and computerized records. Donald, who never lacked for funds, paid his buddy well,” Mary Trump’s book details.

According to a 1980 profile in New York Magazine, Shapiro noted Trump was “bored” at Wharton.

Shapiro passed away in 1999 at the age of 52 and the New York Times biography of him describes his sterling educational career that is far from the likes of Trump’s lies of being a “very stable genius.” He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Penn and went on to get a law degree from Harvard with honors.

Trump's troubles in Arizona mount with coronavirus surge
Jul 8th 2020 8:07AM

Arizona has served as a southwestern bulwark for Republicans for decades, voting for a Democratic presidential candidate only once since 1948.

But a surge of coronavirus cases in the state and President Donald Trump's uneven response to the pandemic have compounded the troubles already facing his re-election bid.

Since Trump won Arizona in 2016, suburban voters in the country's fastest-growing county, Maricopa, have soured on him, the state's Democratic-leaning Latino population has continued growing and transplants from more liberal places have helped Democrats add 60,000 more voters to their rolls than Republicans.

Now the intensifying pandemic – Arizona on Tuesday reported its highest daily total of deaths yet – is endangering Trump's support even among some Republican-leaning voters. Randy Olsen, 65, voted for Trump in 2016, but he plans to support Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden in the Nov. 3 election.

"He's disrespecting the experts," Olsen said of Trump's response to the virus, noting his refusal to endorse face masks. "He's looking out for himself only and isn't looking out for anybody else."

Chuck Coughlin, a Republican strategist in Phoenix, said Trump's handling of the crisis was costing him with key demographics in Maricopa County, including older voters and well-educated suburban whites. The county includes more than half the state's population.

"I expect it's very damaging with that portion of the electorate that Trump needs to persuade," Coughlin said.

Since the end of May, Biden, a former vice president, has led in four of five state polls and holds an average advantage of 3-1/2 percentage points in a state Trump carried by the same margin four years ago, according to the poll-tracking website RealClearPolitics...

Trump chose Phoenix for his first official trip out of Washington after the pandemic in early May and returned two weeks ago. His campaign has more than 70 staffers on the ground and has held more than 2,000 events, Zager said.

But Biden's campaign increasingly views Arizona as a top target, part of a growing national shift in his favor in recent months. Campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon told campaign volunteers that she mentions the state so often it has become a joke among her staff.

"It is a true battleground state for the presidential for the first time," she told a Biden fundraiser two weeks ago.

NEW PATHWAYS TO VICTORY

While the trio of historically Democratic Rust Belt states that carried Trump to victory in 2016 – Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin – continue to garner attention from both parties, polls suggest Sunbelt states like Arizona, Florida, North Carolina and even Georgia have opened new pathways to a Biden victory.

I believe that the traitor in the White House has too much time on his hands. He’s spent the day trying to divert attention from his failure as a leader, to anyone who’s name he could remember. For instance, Beyoncé isn’t “black enough” for BLACK LIVES MATTER. She, according to the traitor is Italian. Knowles, every good Italian knows that name. I believe that branch hails from Houston. Bubba Wallace should apologize for, well I’m not sure what, being a target? Maybe being well liked enough that all of NASCAR supports him. Speaking of NASCAR, how dare they stop displaying the Confederate flag. He is after all, a direct descendant of some obscure confederate officer who never existed. The whole day, every tweet, every word uttered has been about redirecting our attention from his lack of actions over the fact that Russia has been paying a bounty to the Taliban for killing American Soldiers and he knew all about it. He hasn’t said one word to the Russians and the republicans haven’t even asked for an investigation. Then there are the 130,000 + people who have died from Covid-19 since March. He is ignoring the most contagious disease since the pandemic of 1918. He is ineffective at best and unconcerned at worst. The republicans, being republicans are now opening another investigation into Benghazi. I believe this is the forth investigation and nothing has been identified in the first 3 that were illegal. In the courts this would be called Frivolous Harassment. Well just call it republicans. We need to remember what he’s done. We need to have laxer sharp concentration where he is concerned. Our only hope that our country still exists by November 3. Vote Blue and rid our government of the traitors.

you know alky, it warms the heart to see our new cancel culture overtaking, and you could say "cancelling" our first amendment and freedom of speech.

thanks to the left, our once great nation is turning to shit faster than i would have ever expected.

we're living in a bit of a stressful time, so obviously the thing to do when someone has a mini-meltdown in public is to completely and utterly destroy the person...

...says the inclusive and diverse and compassionate left.

that's awesome, no?

my question is - what do you guys plan to do when the cancel culture comes after YOU?

Ironic: Names are dropping off letter decrying an intolerance of opposing views because of opposing views

Ben Shapiro
@benshapiro

Not sure who's funnier -- the cancel culture maniacs insisting that cancel culture doesn't exist while trying to cancel those who disagree, or the brave souls who signed a letter decrying cancel culture then immediately unsigned the letter out of fear of cancel culture.

so you guys seem to have painted yourselves into the proverbial corner.

you're all cool with the "free exchange of ideas" right up until they're ideas that you don't agree with. then it's:

SEIZE HIM!!!

you know, at first i figured this thing ended up with a left vs. right civil war. now i'm starting to come around to the idea that all we on the right need to do is sit back and enjoy watching you assholes destroy each other. you dumb fucks are literally self-cancelling. then trying to un-cancel your self-cancel.

a gordian knot of sorts.

enjoy, alky.

f'ing trump.

___________

Yeah, Rat, he really does.

100,000 plus covid DEATHS during Trump's presidency are going to look very, very bad compared to 12,469 during Obama's presidency.

See Ch's "So Covid is now about cases thread" where he failed in his attempt to downplay that.

You and Lil Schitty comparing apples and oranges again. If brains were TNT, neither of you could blow your noses!!!!

Some stats for comparison Why do you insist on parity with the corona virus which has killed 131 k adults and over 1 million hospitalizations in 5 months??????

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates there were 60.8 million cases, 274,000 hospitalizations, and 12,469 deaths in the United States due to the virus

Why are you sooooooo fucking stupid

56 Florida hospitals have hit ICU capacity,

They hit ICU capacity every winter they just increase it when they do.

Commonsense said...

Also the ICU is now being utilize for elective procedures like open heart surgery,

There was a lot of pent up demand during the lock down. In many cases non-COVID hospitalizations are now more serious because of the lock downs.

The Doctors disagree with the Vice President.

Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus response coordinator, said cases are spiking in some parts of the country, specifically in the south, because states “stepped on the gas” while reopening.

"A lot of individuals and a lot of businesses, instead of driving 25 in a 25 mile an hour zone, stepped on the gas and started going 65, and it's really evident now in the spread of cases across most age groups."

The very intelligent President.

Donald Trump's SAT cheating scandal could result in him losing his diploma from Wharton.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The CDC's guidelines encourage hygiene, the use of cloth face coverings, and staying home when appropriate. It also suggests staggered scheduling, a back-up staffing plan, modified seating layouts to allow social distancing, physical barriers and closing of communal spaces.

Donald Trump
I disagree with @CDCgov on their very tough & expensive guidelines for opening schools. While they want them open, they are asking schools to do very impractical things. I will be meeting with them!!!
