Democrats played the convention not to lose...

But did it work?

Biden's convention bounce where it counts currently sits at a negative 0.1%

It would appear that the Democrats basically played out this convention as if there was very little point in having it... which might be the case in a so-called virtual convention situation. The media apparently played along by limiting the amount of coverage they gave (which will allow them to do the same during the RNC convention). The idea still appears to be to run out the clock and avoid anything that might upset the apple cart.

But they also seem to be banking on the idea that there the GOP will do much of the same and that their convention will be as lackluster and irrelevant as the DNC was. Of course, I am not 100% convinced that they are not right. How do you go about creating a buzz and enthusiasm when you have a virtual convention without any actual buzz or enthusiasm. It's a tricky question.

Obviously where the Democratic convention was meant to downplay everything and basically keep things as generic and non-specific as could possibly be.. the GOP convention will be much the opposite. I expect them to play offense and play to win.

All four major television network networks carried the conversation.

Even Fox news covered the conversation, after the President was interviewed by Sean Hannity. The President said that he would put sheriffs at the polling stations to intimidate people of color .

There is no credible evidence of voter fraud. He's trying to sew doubt on the results of the election.

This is why we need to remove the President from office, because our nation is at risk

Chris Wallace believes Joe Biden’s speech ‘blew a hole’ in Trump’s characterization of him

Yahoo Entertainment
August 21, 2020, 3:54 AM CDT

Presidential nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden closed out the Democratic National Convention with a powerful acceptance speech on Thursday. In fact, the speech even impressed the hosts and Fox News Democracy 2020 analysts like, Brit Hume, Bret Baier, and Chris Wallace.

Hume said, “It was a very good speech, I thought, delivered with force and clarity by him.” While earlier in the program, Baier said, “He is not known for his public speaking, but this, having seen him speak on the stump many, many times, was the best he has been as far as his delivery.”

While Hume believes the speech will impact Biden’s polling numbers in a positive way, Wallace pointed out that it may also undermine a popular talking point of President Trump.

“I thought it was enormously effective,” said Wallace. “Remember, Donald Trump has been talking for months about Joe Biden as mentally shot, a captive of the Left. And yes, Biden was reading from the teleprompter and a prepared speech but I thought that he blew a hole, a big hole in the characterization.”

It wasn't all praise though, as Hume felt Biden didn't address some important issues... "Nonetheless, all in all a good speech forcefully delivered and one I'm sure will give him a boost."

Denver doctors may have found the answer to a pandemic mystery: What happened to all the heart attacks?

A new study from Stauffer and several Denver Health colleagues offers the first clue to the answer in Colorado. Looking at data on ambulance calls in Denver, they found that, while overall calls for service went down during the stay-at-home period, the number of people dying from cardiac arrests at home shot up.

Stauffer’s team found that cardiac arrests at home in Denver more than doubled in the two weeks after the statewide stay-at-home order was issued compared with historical averages. Even compared with more recent data, the weekly average of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests jumped to 46 during those two weeks, versus 26 or 27 in the three months prior.

Stauffer and his colleagues found that the number of people in Denver who died of cardiac arrests at home in the two weeks following the statewide stay-at-home order was greater than the total number of people who died of COVID-19 in the city during that time.

'Fact check: True': Trump’s approval rating surges during Biden’s convention

During this week’s Democratic National Convention, which was supposed to launch Joe Biden and Kamala Harris's ticket into the fall election with good feelings and high poll numbers, President Trump’s approval rating surged.

The Rasmussen Reports daily average for Trump, which is spread over three days, hit 51% this week — and has stayed there.

On the first day of the Democratic National Convention, Trump's approval rating was 47%.

It rose as the president was taking hits at the virtual convention from former President Barack Obama, 2016 foe Hillary Rodham Clinton, and a host of other prominent Democrats.

But it also came as he hit the campaign trail in advance of next week’s GOP convention to slam the Biden-Harris ticket and talk up his successes, including the new peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.

On the Rasmussen Twitter page, it was noted how rare it is to see the other party’s candidate ratings surge during convention week.

In a reaction to Rasmussen’s poll, which was looked at over 250,000 times, a commenter wrote, “It’s not uncommon for candidates to receive a bump after a national political convention. It’s just that usually the convention is their own and not their opponents.”

Rasmussen Reports responded, “Fact Check: True.”

The data suggest that lockdowns have not prevented any deaths from covid-19. At best, lockdowns have deferred death for a short time, but they cannot possibly be continued for the long term. It seems likely that one will not have to even compare economic deprivation with loss of life, as the final death toll following authoritarian lockdowns will most likely exceed the deaths from letting people choose how to manage their own risk. After taking the unprecedented economic depression into account, history will likely judge these lockdowns to be the greatest policy error of this generation. Covid-19 is not going to be defeated; we will have to learn how to coexist with it. The only way we can learn how best to cope with covid-19 is to let individuals manage their own risk, observe the outcomes, and learn from mistakes. The world owes a great debt to Sweden for setting an example that the rest of us can follow.

Why Is The Media Suppressing Information About Hydroxychloroquine’s Effectiveness Against COVID?

There are now 53 studies that show positive results of hydroxychloroquine in COVID-19 infections. So, why is the media still spreading misinformation?

On July 31, in a column ostensibly dealing with health care “misinformation,” Washington Post media critic Margaret Sullivan opened by lambasting “fringe doctors spouting dangerous falsehoods about hydroxychloroquine as a COVID-19 wonder cure.”

Actually, it was Sullivan who was spouting dangerous falsehoods about this drug, something the Washington Post and much of the rest of the media have been doing for months. On May 15, the Post offered a stark warning to any Americans who may have taken hope in a possible therapy for COVID-19. In the newspaper’s telling, there was nothing unambiguous about the science — or the politics — of hydroxychloroquine: “Drug promoted by Trump as coronavirus game-changer increasingly linked to deaths,” blared the headline.

Written by three Post staff writers, the story asserted that the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine in treating COVID-19 is scant and that the drug is inherently unsafe. This claim is nonsense.

At least 13 Biden campaign staff members posted on Twitter on Friday and Saturday that they made donations to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, which opposes the practice of cash bail, or making people pay to avoid pre-trial imprisonment. The group uses donations to pay bail fees in Minneapolis.

Biden campaign spokesman Andrew Bates said in a statement to Reuters that the former vice president opposes the institution of cash bail as a “modern day debtors prison.”

But the campaign declined to answer questions on whether the donations were coordinated within the campaign, underscoring the politically thorny nature of the sometimes violent protests.

Bates instead pointed to Biden’s comments that protesters have the right to be angry but that more violence won’t solve justice problems.

Kobach Says He Spoke to Trump About Border Wall Effort
August 21, 2020 at 4:23 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

Kris Kobach said in an interview last year that he had spoken with President Trump three times about the private border wall project that is currently at the center of a federal fraud investigation, CNN reports.

Said Kobach: “I’ve spoken to the President about this project on three occasions now. And he said — the first time I told him about it — he said, ‘well, you tell the guys at We Build The Wall, that they have my blessing.’ And he used those exact words.”

The lying POS "pastor" strikes again.

On Trump's first statement didn't say neo-nazis, skinheads, white supremacists, KKK-ers, etc. were fine people.

Even your fact check points that out while concluding nothing.

He clarified it later because of the FAKE NEWS press adding those people in. And partisan dems.

What a PIECE of SHIT YOU ARE "pastor"

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

Poor Cowardly has to call names and spit and curse.

The simple fact is, Trump said what he said regarding what was going on there, and it involved those groups, and then when there was severe reaction, he tried to say he was not referring to them.

He does that all the time.

He also tried to say later he was not mocking that handicapped reporter when it is crystal clear that he was.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

The POS Cowardly keeps referring to is in the White House. Here are two who are beginning to figure that out:

Two Never Trumpers Reflect on Biden
August 21, 2020 at 3:15 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard
Charlie Sykes and Tim Miller have an interesting discussion on the Bulwark Podcast about the Democratic convention.

Tim Miller:
“I wanted to share one thing that we discussed after the show was over. Both of us we were caught off guard by how emotionally attached we were last night to this candidacy. We had sort of expected to feel this reluctant, begrudging support for the Democratic nominee, to have been left in a tough spot between one normal bad choice and one existentially bad one. But that isn’t what happened. Joe Biden has me energized. And frankly, that he has both Charlie and I reflecting on whether maybe in the past we were just…in the wrong…”

MANY REPUBLICANS WILL COME TO THAT CONCLUSION NOW OR EVENTUALLY

It’s hard to imagine a starker contrast than Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
The Democratic National Convention, as tightly choreographed as a Broadway production, was a four-day anthem to decency, empathy and reason, framed with heartfelt stories and a seriousness of purpose. I can’t recall a more-solemn Barack Obama, who exchanged his hope-and-change template for one of direness and urgency.
In another role reversal, vice-presidential nominee Kamala D. Harris traded her more-familiar prosecutorial assassin persona for the private face of “Momala,” the brightly smiling daughter of an immigrant mother and stepmom whose daughter testified to her family-focused bona fides. Harris’s dazzling smile betrayed an almost girlish giddiness at what seemed to be her delight in her own presence at this unprecedented intersection of aspiration and history.
Decency, empathy and reason are, of course, the opposite of what one sees or expects from the incumbent president. Trump’s indecent dog whistles to America’s underbelly, his winks at racists and misogynists (Charlottesville and grab’m); his utter lack of empathy (migrant children torn from their parents and housed in glorified cages); his rejection of reason and science regarding covid-19 (or anything else that runs counter to his singular purpose of self-aggrandizement and the satisfaction of his rapacious narcissism) — all point to a man who never should have become president of the United States in the first place.
And, yet, he did — and he could win again if Democrats fail to recognize the reasons he won: His supporters didn’t feel that Hillary Clinton or the Democrats had their backs. Trump saw them, heard them and promised to fight for them. It’s as simple as that.

he Republican Embrace of QAnon Goes Far Beyond Trump

Late last month, as the Texas Republican Party was shifting into campaign mode, it unveiled a new slogan, lifting a rallying cry straight from a once-unthinkable source: the internet-driven conspiracy theory known as QAnon.

The new catchphrase, “We Are the Storm,” is an unsubtle cue to a group that the FBI has labeled a potential domestic terrorist threat. It is instantly recognizable among QAnon adherents, signaling what they claim is a coming conflagration between President Donald Trump and what they allege, falsely, is a cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophile Democrats who seek to dominate America and the world.

The slogan can be found all over social media posts by QAnon followers and now, too, in emails from the Texas Republican Party and on the T-shirts, hats and sweatshirts that it sells. It has even worked its way into the party’s text message system; a recent email from the party urged readers to “Text STORM2020” for updates.

The Texas Republicans are an unusually visible example of the Republican Party’s dalliance with QAnon, but they are hardly unique. A small but growing number of Republicans — including a heavily favored Republican congressional candidate in Georgia — are donning the QAnon mantle, ushering its adherents in from the troll-infested fringes of the internet and potentially transforming the wild conspiracy theory into an offline political movement, with supporters running for Congress and flexing their political muscle at the state and local levels.

Diet for the GOP as McSally desperately seeks money!!!!!!

Sen. Martha McSally of Arizona suggested her supporters should "fast a meal" and donate the money saved to her campaign as she falls behind in the polls to keep her Senate seat, according to audio obtained by a local news outlet.

McSally reportedly made the suggestion at an event in northern Arizona, according to the audio obtained by Arizona Family.

"There's an air war going on on television right now, right, you see it," McSally said in the audio. "And look, we're being outgunned in the air, OK."

"We're doing our part to catch up, you know to get our message out. But it takes resources," the incumbent Arizona senator continued. "So anybody can give, I'm not ashamed to ask, to invest. if you can give a dollar, five dollars, if you can fast a meal and give what that would be."

Christine Jones, a Republican businesswoman who ran for governor in 2014 and Congress in 2016, called it "unconventional" for McSally to ask her supporters to fast a meal.

"I haven't talked to her about it so I can't really opine on the specifics of it, but it does feel like it's a little bit of an act of desperation."

McSally is down in the polls against Democrat Mark Kelly, according to FiveThirtyEight's tracker of general election polls.

She raised $30 million for her campaign, but Kelly's campaign made over $15 million more in fundraising, totaling to $45.7 million.

According to an analysis from NBC News, more than 864,000 people filed for unemployment in Arizona — nearly a quarter of the state's workforce — amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
