I never know exactly where Silver gets these adjustments from. Considering quite literally "every single time" he has been wrong, he has been wrong picking a Democrat to win, that loses... it would seem obvious to any objective statistician that your base assumptions are incorrect. A true objective statistician who was effectively projecting political races would quite literally need to be wrong half the time picking a Republican that loses and half the time picking a Democrat that loses (or at least pretty close to that).
If your end results continue over and over and over and over to be always wrong in the same direction, then you should adjust your underlying assumptions and underlying formulas to make it not so one sided.
But of course, Silver is popular and famous not for being correct, but for being another media soundboard for the Democrats. He probably would garner half the amount of interviews, round table discussions, and panels if he wasn't there to tell everyone how well the Democrats are going to do! In fact, he might get no work at all if he just called it straight. He understands which side his bread is buttered on.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 51% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance. Forty-seven percent (47%) disapprove.
The latest figures include 40% who Strongly Approve of the job Trump is doing and 41% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -1. (see trends)

The Transition Integrity Project (TIP) appears to be another establishment-sanctioned offensive to nullify the Trump presidency akin to impeachment and the Russian collusion hoax. Now, however, TIP’s paramount concern is President Trump’s refusal to relinquish the presidency should Democratic candidate Joe Biden win given the potential for a botched election resulting from mail-in ballots and coronavirus.
The breathless media coverage of TIP in the last few days has hailed the group’s “bipartisanship,” but a National Pulse investigation has found that the group is anything but. In reality, it’s another globalist front comprised of Soros staffers, linked to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and appears to exist for the express purpose of backing Biden’s claims to the White House in an event of a disputed election in November.

She championed impeachment, reveling in weaponizing the seldom-used maneuver without any evidence of an actual crime: “If impeachment seems like a fine solution to you, the good news is that Congress doesn’t need evidence of actual treason or murder to move forward with an impeachment: Practically anything can be considered a “high crime or misdemeanor.”
She also floats the prospect of “a military coup, or at least a refusal by military leaders to obey certain orders.”
Brooks also serves as a fellow at the New America Foundation (NAF), which enjoys financial backing from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Google. NAF’s CEO Anne Marie Slaughter served as Director of Policy Planning in the Obama administration and the foundation’s board features individuals like Fareed Zakaria, a CNN host and Washington Post contributor who was recently exposed by the National Pulse for collaborating with a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) funded “Marxist journalism” school.
Gilman serves as the Vice President of Programs at the Berggruen Institute which hosts the Berggruen China Center and has funneled tens of millions of dollars into CCP-run universities such as Peking University – merely scratching the surface of the institute’s CCP overtures.
The Berggruen Institute’s China initiative lists a bevy of Chinese government-run entities as partners including the Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence, China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Chinese Association of Artificial Intelligence.

President Trump, scratching back to just 4-6 points behind challenger Joe Biden, is being bolstered by new polls showing a surge in his approval rating and a widening “enthusiasm gap” favoring him over his Democratic foe.
Just out is the daily Rasmussen Reports presidential approval rating for Trump at 51%.
Notably, said Rasmussen, at this stage of his presidency, former President Barack Obama had a 44% approval rating.
Add to that new polling from Economist/YouGov that shows the president’s supporters far more enthusiastic about him, and voting for him, than those of Biden’s.
When asked, “How do you feel about the presidential candidates listed below?” 40% of Biden’s supporters said “enthusiastic” compared to 68% of Trump’s supporters.
And when asked, “How enthusiastic are you about voting for president in the upcoming presidential election in November?” 53% of Biden’s supporters said “extremely or very enthusiastic” compared to 76% of Trump supporters.

Voters think big city leaders in places like Portland and Seattle where violent protests have gone on for weeks are bringing the violence on themselves, with most reporters cheering on the protesters.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 50% of Likely U.S. Voters believe political leaders in some major cities like Portland and Seattle are encouraging violent protests by limiting the police response. Thirty-one percent (31%) disagree. A sizable 19% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
Republicans (72%) are much more likely than Democrats (33%) and voters not affiliated with either major party (48%) to think these political leaders are making it worse for themselves and their cities.

NEW YORK — President Trump's renewed effort to shield his tax returns is part of a delay campaign seeking the immunity from prosecution that the Supreme Court has rejected, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office said in a court filing Monday that suggests it is looking at a broader array of possible criminal activity than previously acknowledged.
District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. is seeking eight years of the president’s tax records as part of his investigation into payments made ahead of the 2016 election to two women who claimed they had affairs with Trump several years prior, and whether any business records were manipulated in violation of New York state law. Trump, who has denied the women’s allegations, continues to fight the grand jury subpoena for his records issued to accounting firm Mazars USA a year ago.
Monday’s filing suggests the district attorney also may be looking at “alleged insurance and bank fraud,” as cited in past reports by The Washington Post and other news organizations. Such “publicly available information itself establishes a satisfactory predicate for the subpoena,” the filing says.

World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus echoed that grim prediction Monday, and The Post reported that state officials are already confused about the Trump administration's plans to distribute a vaccine when one exists.

"A potentially decisive slice of Trump’s battleground-state base — 15% of Trump voters in Florida, 12% in Pennsylvania and 10% in Michigan — said that getting a ballot in the mail would make them less likely to vote in November.
“Trump won each of those states by a thin margin in 2016, and less than 1% of Joe Biden voters said getting a ballot mailed to them would make them less likely to vote. Overall, 53% of voters in Florida and about half in Michigan and Pennsylvania expressed health concerns about casting their ballots in person and prefer voting by mail in November.”
Many Republican lawmakers and aides, there’s a growing sense that if Trump loses the White House — and the GOP fails to make meaningful gains in the House — the fight for the future of the party will play out in challenges across leadership.
“If Trump loses, there’s gonna be a mad scramble if we’re in the minority,” said one Republican lawmaker, who was granted anonymity to speak more freely. “There’s people seeing this as an opportunity. … I think it’s gonna be a real fight.”

Manhattan DA probing Trump and his business over more than 'hush-money' payments

(Reuters) - Manhattan’s district attorney on Monday suggested a grand jury subpoena for U.S. President Donald Trump’s tax returns was part of an investigation of “possibly extensive and protracted criminal conduct at the Trump Organization,” including alleged insurance and bank fraud.
Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance raised the scope of the probe in court papers filed in federal court in Manhattan on Monday. He is seeking to dismiss Trump’s latest challenge to the subpoena for eight years of personal and corporate tax records.
Asked about the investigation at a coronavirus press briefing on Monday, Trump repeated that he believed he is the victim of a political “witch hunt,” which he said was “Democrats’ stuff” and started “even before I got in” to office.
“There is nothing that I know even about it,” he added.
Trump is scheduled to respond to Vance’s motion to dismiss by Aug. 10.
In a court filing last week, Trump’s lawyers argued the subpoena was “wildly overbroad” and issued in “bad faith.”
Vance noted in the court papers that when the subpoena was issued last August, there were “public allegations of possible criminal activity” at the Trump Organization dating back a decade. He said public reports show a basis for each category and timeframe of documents sought from Trump’s accounting firm, Mazars USA.
Trump’s argument that the subpoena is overbroad “rests on the false premise that the grand jury’s investigation is limited to so-called ‘hush-money’ payments made by Michael Cohen” on Trump’s behalf in 2016, Vance said.
Cohen pleaded guilty in 2018 to campaign violations tied to the payments to pornographic film actress Stormy Daniels and former model Karen McDougal, who claimed they had affairs with Trump, which he denies.
In a footnote to Monday’s filing, Vance cited media reports on Trump’s alleged role in the hush-money scheme and on the “unorthodox strategies” he used to expand his real estate empire.

He also cited reports of questionable financial statements by Trump, such as when he claimed 55 zoned lots ready for sale at his golf course in Southern California when there were only 31; a 2,000 acre Virginia vineyard that is really only 1,200 acres, and 68 stories at his Trump Tower, 10 higher than the Manhattan property.
Cohen testified to Congress last year that Trump inflated his assets when it served his purposes, and deflated them to reduce his real estate taxes. He called his former boss a “con man” and “cheat.”
Trump has tweeted that Cohen is a “rat” who was lying to reduce his prison time.
The dispute over Trump’s taxes already was subject to a ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court last month that the president was not immune from state criminal probes.
Vance urged the court to dismiss Trump’s latest challenge to the subpoena “without delay,” arguing the complaint “merely regurgitates allegations and arguments this court has rejected before.”
Vance brought in a high-profile lawyer to assist with the case: Former acting solicitor general Walter Dellinger, onetime head of the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel.
Last month, the DA’s office warned U.S. District Court Judge Victor Marrero against allowing statutes of limitations to expire on the alleged crimes.
A spokesman for Vance declined comment on the court papers. Grand jury deliberations are secret, and the public may not learn what the subpoena uncovers until after the election.

A former MSNBC producer wrote a scathing open letter explaining why she recently left the cable news network.
"July 24th was my last day at MSNBC. I don’t know what I’m going to do next exactly but I simply couldn’t stay there anymore," Ariana Pekary wrote on her personal website. "My colleagues are very smart people with good intentions. The problem is the job itself. It forces skilled journalists to make bad decisions on a daily basis."
Pekary provided a number of examples of why she wanted to leave the cable news network.
"It’s possible that I’m more sensitive to the editorial process due to my background in public radio, where no decision I ever witnessed was predicated on how a topic or guest would 'rate.' The longer I was at MSNBC, the more I saw such choices — it’s practically baked in to the editorial process – and those decisions affect news content every day," Pekary said. "Likewise, it’s taboo to discuss how the ratings scheme distorts content, or it’s simply taken for granted, because everyone in the commercial broadcast news industry is doing the exact same thing. But behind closed doors, industry leaders will admit the damage that’s being done."
She then quoted someone she described a "successful and insightful TV veteran" who said: "We are a cancer and there is no cure... But if you could find a cure, it would change the world.”
Pekary, who described herself as an "integral member" of the MSNBC primetime show "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell," used the "cancer" analogy to describe MSNBC's coverage of the coronavirus outbreak and the racial unrest in recent months, writing: "The model blocks diversity of thought and content because the networks have incentive to amplify fringe voices and events, at the expense of others… all because it pumps up the ratings."
"This cancer risks human lives, even in the middle of a pandemic. The primary focus quickly became what Donald Trump was doing (poorly) to address the crisis, rather than the science itself. As new details have become available about antibodies, a vaccine, or how COVID actually spreads, producers still want to focus on the politics. Important facts or studies get buried," Pekary explained. "This cancer risks our democracy, even in the middle of a presidential election. Any discussion about the election usually focuses on Donald Trump, not Joe Biden, a repeat offense from 2016 (Trump smothers out all other coverage). Also important is to ensure citizens can vote by mail this year, but I’ve watched that topic get ignored or 'killed' numerous times."

A lawsuit was filed Monday in a federal court in Seattle that claims protesters in the city are essentially being priced out of protesting for civil rights because the protective gear they need to keep them safe from responding police is expensive, a report on Tuesday said.
The Seattle Times reported that the five plaintiffs listed some of the items needed for protection from police munitions during these protests. The list included boots, gloves, helmets and gas masks.
