So.... the DNC could not find 30 enthusiastic voters for Harris to look at?

So Kamala Harris gave her acceptance speech not to a crowd of people, but rather to a virtual Brady Bunch style virtual crowd of what was declared to be 30 enthusiastic Harris supporters. Only problem was that there was not actually 30 enthusiastic Harris supporters.

If you looked closely, the thirty enthusiastic voters watching this virtually either includes three sets of identical twins dressed identically or only 27 people, with three of them duplicated in different frames. What does it say when the DNC doesn't appear to be able to find enough enthusiastic Harris supporters to fill out a thirty frame virtual crowd.

NEW YORK (AP) — That didn’t take long: Just weeks after making history as the running mate for Democratic nominee Joe Biden, Sen. Kamala Harris will be the subject of a new picture book.

Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing announced Wednesday that prize-winning author Nikki Grimes has written “Kamala Harris: Rooted in Justice,” which features illustrations by Laura Freeman. The book comes out Aug. 25.

Federal prosecutors filed criminal charges against one-time presidential aide Steve Bannon and three others for allegedly taking money donated to help build a wall along the southern border, authorities said Thursday.

Bannon, Brian Kolfage, Andrew Badolato and Timothy Shea "and others orchestrated a scheme to defraud hundreds of thousands of donors," according to prosecutors in the Southern District of New York.

The defendants' online crowdfunding campaign “We Build The Wall” raised more than $25 million with Kolfage "repeatedly and falsely assured the public that he would 'not take a penny in salary,' " prosecutors said in a statement.

And Bannon "publicly stated, 'we’re a volunteer organization,'” prosecutors said.

Bannon is the former executive chairman of Breitbart News and once served as chief strategist for President Donald Trump.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Former President Barack Obama warned that American democracy could falter if President Donald Trump is reelected, a stunning rebuke of his successor that was echoed by Kamala Harris at the Democratic Convention as she embraced her historic role as the first Black woman on a national political ticket.

Obama, himself a barrier breaker as the nation's first Black president, pleaded with voters Wednesday night to “embrace your own responsibility as citizens — to make sure that the basic tenets of our democracy endure. Because that’s what is at stake right now. Our democracy.”

Throughout their convention, the Democrats have summoned a collective urgency about the dangers of Trump as president. In 2016, they dismissed and sometimes trivialized him. Now they are casting him as an existential threat to the country. The tone signals anew that the fall campaign between Trump and Joe Biden, already expected to be among the most negative of the past half-century, will be filled with rancor and recrimination.

In his speech at the DNC on Thursday, Barack Obama scolded President Donald Trump for demeaning the military by using them for political purposes.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, he said, “understand that in this democracy, the Commander-in-Chief doesn’t use the men and women of our military, who are willing to risk everything to protect our nation, as political props.”

As the picture above shows, here’s how Obama believes our military men and women should be used.

We could go on and on and on about how Obama belittled the military, and how, in contrast, Trump has honored our men and women in uniform.

But the picture says far more than we could.

because nothing says "democracy" like wild violent mobs burning our cities to the ground and killing innocent citizens with impunity.

President Trump’s latest attempt to block the Manhattan district attorney from obtaining his tax records was rejected by a federal judge Thursday.

U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero threw out the latest lawsuit brought by Trump’s lawyers which had argued that a subpoena to Mazars USA, Trump’s accounting firm, was “overbroad” in its request for documents and that it amounted to “harassment.” Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. argued repeatedly that the subpoena, issued by a grand jury, was legally valid and tied to a legitimate criminal investigation.

Trump could appeal the decision and further attempt to delay execution of the subpoena from Vance’s office, which has been investigating hush-money payments to two women who alleged having affairs with Trump years ago. The president denies the women’s claims.

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was in a coma and on a ventilator Thursday in an intensive care unit in Siberia after falling ill from suspected poisoning that his allies believe is linked to his political activity.

The 44-year-old critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin felt unwell on a flight back to Moscow from Tomsk, a city in Siberia, and was taken to a hospital after the plane made an emergency landing in Omsk, Navalny's spokeswoman, Kira Yarmysh, said on Twitter.

She told the Echo Moskvy radio station that he must have consumed poison in tea he drank at an airport cafe before boarding the plane early Thursday. During the flight, Navalny started sweating and asked her to talk to him so that he could “focus on the sound of a voice." He then went to the bathroom and lost consciousness, and has been in a coma in grave condition ever since.

Compare the idiocies of the Babylon Bee with this:

So far, the Democrats have largely succeeded in creating a new and effective form of Convention, not so much with balloon showers but with nightly critiques of a calamitous and ugly Presidency and a series of emotional appeals to the country’s better angels. This Convention is a decidedly earnest spectacle—but, over all, this event just may end up playing a critical role for the Democrats in an election that is far from decided.

On Wednesday night, Barack Obama prosecuted the case against Trump. And Obama was at his best. It was as if he had been waiting for this moment with a barely concealed relish. After Trump’s victory, in 2016, Obama met with Trump once at the White House and found him unschooled and uninterested in the particulars of the office he was about to assume. Obama concealed his true alarm behind the mists of custom and euphemism. He consoled his staff, telling them that Trump’s victory was “not the apocalypse.” And yet he has watched with a cool fury as Trump has done everything possible to dismantle his legacy—including the Iran nuclear deal, countless financial and environmental regulations, and the Paris accords on climate change.

In his Convention speech, Obama dispensed with predecessor-successor courtesies. Like Michelle Obama and Bernie Sanders on Monday night, he made his case in plain terms, at once idealistic and brutal. First, he framed his argument in the lofty terms of the Constitution and the general expectations of a President. Then he got down to cases.

“I have sat in the Oval Office with both of the men who are running for President,” Obama said. “I never expected that my successor would embrace my vision or continue my policies. I did hope, for the sake of our country, that Donald Trump might show some interest in taking the job seriously—that he might come to feel the weight of the office and discover some reverence for the democracy that had been placed in his care. But he never did. For close to four years now, he’s shown no interest in putting in the work; no interest in finding common ground; no interest in using the awesome power of his office to help anyone but himself and his friends; no interest in treating the Presidency as anything but one more reality show that he can use to get the attention he craves.”

Obama did not hesitate to get personal. “Donald Trump hasn’t grown into the job, because he can’t,” he said. “And the consequences of that failure are severe. A hundred and seventy thousand Americans dead. Millions of jobs gone. While those at the top take in more than ever. Our worst impulses unleashed, our proud reputation around the world badly diminished, and our democratic institutions threatened like never before.” Then he extolled the virtues of Biden, a “brother,” a partner in the creation of the Affordable Care Act and the rescue of the economy after the Great Recession.

(And, while Obama spoke, invoking the heroes of the civil-rights movement, praising young people on the streets for “telling us we need to be better,” and calling for voters to “give our democracy new meaning,” Trump was in the White House watching the proceedings and tweeting apoplectically: “HE SPIED ON MY CAMPAIGN, AND GOT CAUGHT!”)

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

“This Administration has shown it will tear our democracy down if that is what it takes to win,” Obama went on. “So we have to get busy building it up, by pouring all our effort into these seventy-six days, and by voting like never before, for Joe and Kamala, and candidates up and down the ticket, so that we can leave no doubt about what this country we love stands for, today and for all our days to come.”

Customarily, the leader of the opposing party keeps a low profile during these sessions. Trump cannot help himself, tweeting insults at the screen with a febrile desperation. At a modest rally in Yuma, Arizona, on Tuesday, he went on about his foul campaign against immigration. And on Wednesday, his spokesperson, Kayleigh McEnany, made it plain that he might well challenge the results of the election: “The President has always said he’ll see what happens and make a determination in the aftermath.” Meanwhile, to little notice this week, the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee issued a comprehensive report stating that Trump’s associates, including his campaign chairman Paul Manafort, did, in fact, have direct links with Russians intent on interfering in the 2016 election. In response to the Senate report, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued a statement, saying, “America’s intelligence and law enforcement communities have made clear that the Russian Government is continuing to wage a massive intervention campaign to benefit the President, warning of a ‘365-days-a-year threat’ to compromise the 2020 elections and undermine our democracy.”

[Many years ago, H. L. Mencken, for all his fault] did get one thing right. He anticipated the rise of a confidence man like Trump, the possibility that one day “the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.” On Thursday night, closing night of this unconventional Convention, Joe Biden will make the case for ushering that downright moron out of the White House.
