The never ending lawsuit

Supreme Court allows continued construction of Trump's border wall
The 5-4 order represents a loss for environmental groups represented by the American Civil Liberties Union, which had asked the justices to lift an order from a year ago that allowed the government to continue building the wall pending appeals. It is a win for Trump, who has made the construction of the wall a cornerstone of his presidency.

The portions of the wall in question are in Arizona, New Mexico and California.
Justice Stephen Breyer, joined by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor dissented. Breyer noted that by the time the court reaches the case on the merits, the portion of the wall may already be complete.

If this sounds like a broken record, it's because it is. Pretty much the same issue keeps coming before the high court with the same result, because lower court Judges continue to order new injunctions on top of the ones that have already been suspended. Even when they don't, the petitioners (in this case the ACLU) continue to appeal the decisions, until they end up right back where they started from.

So what will happen next? The same groups who filed the original lawsuit will file new lawsuits claiming basically the same thing and hope their is another anti-Trump judge willing to ignore the USSC precedent on the slew of other lawsuits and issue a new injunction.

“Well, we’re going to be doing a healthcare plan. We’re going to be doing a very inclusive healthcare plan. I’ll be signing it sometime very soon…. It might be — it might be Sunday, but it’s — it’s going to be very soon.

“We’re also doing a full immigration plan. We’re going to take care of a lot things that, for 25 years, they’ve been trying to get an immigration plan. We’re going to be doing merit-based immigration. I’m sure you’d be happy to hear that. But it’s merit-based. It’s very powerfully merit-based. It’s going to be very inclusive. It’s going to cover just about everything that most people would have said couldn’t happen, and we’ll be releasing that over the next couple of weeks.”

SAME THING WITH IMMIGRATION. You were going to have just such a SUPER DOOPER comprehensive immigration policy. And it's only NOW that you're rolling it out for us to see?

And drugs. NOW you're finally talking about what wonderful things you're about to do with drug prices. Well, why has it taken you so long? Why haven't financially and medically stressed people been benefitting from this during your entire administration?

Trump Slams Fauci Over Testimony on Virus Surge

ALTERNATE TITLE BY JAMES:
TRUMP SLAMS FAUCI FOR TELLING THE TRUTH AGAIN ON VIRUS SURGE

President Trump publicly rebuked Dr. Anthony Fauci, forcefully rejecting the nation’s top infectious disease expert’s testimony on why the U.S. has experienced a renewed surge in coronavirus cases, Politico reports.

“Wrong!” Trump wrote in a retweet of a video where Fauci explained to a House subcommittee that the U.S. has seen more cases than European countries because it only shut down a fraction of its economy amid the pandemic.

Said Trump:
“We have more cases because we have tested far more than any other country, 60,000,000. If we tested less, there would be less cases.”

“From the Middle East to Asia, Latin America to Africa and, particularly, Europe, and on issues including trade, terrorism, arms control and immigration, the presumptive Democratic nominee and his advisers have vowed to unleash a tsunami of change in how the U.S. handles itself in the international arena.

“With few exceptions, Americans could expect Biden to re-engage with traditional allies.”

Coronavirus Updates: A kids camp infects hundreds
Fri, Jul 31, 2020 4:01 pm
The Washington Post
Important developments in the pandemic.

The latest
Children of any age may be susceptible to the coronavirus and able to spread it, according to a report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday, as the United States debates whether to reopen classrooms in a few weeks. The study details an outbreak at a summer camp in Georgia last month, where at least 260 children — half of whom were 12 or younger — and staff contracted the virus in less than a week.

Top public health experts issued dire warnings to the nation this week as the American death toll surged, infections hovered near record highs and millions struggled to pay their bills. “If the nation does not change its course — and soon — deaths in the United States could be well into the multiple hundreds of thousands,” the Association of American Medical Colleges said in a statement. The coordinator of the White House coronavirus task force, Deborah Birx, called for “governors and mayors of every locality” to order residents to wear masks — something President Trump and many Americans still resist.

Other architects of the federal government's coronavirus response delivered bleak news to a House subcommittee Friday. Testing czar Brett Giroir testified that three-quarters of test results across the country come back within five days, with no prospect of substantially reducing the lag time any time soon.

Later in the same hearing, infectious-disease expert Anthony S. Fauci acknowledged that such long delays “in many respects obviates the whole purpose of doing it.”

The President is a Fake President

Two weeks have passed since President Donald Trump proclaimed he would be “signing” a big health care reform plan in two weeks. Don’t hold your breath for a Rose Garden ceremony.
Almost exactly three years ago, the Republican Senate failed to pass a bill that would have repealed the Affordable Care Act and replaced it with a law that would have snatched health coverage from 16 million people. In the 10 years since ”Obamacare″ became law, that’s as close as the GOP has gotten to fulfilling its promise to scrap the ACA and pass its own health care bill.
There’s been zero action on the issue in Congress, where Republicans seem tired of talking about it and confronting their own failure. Trump himself has never articulated a vision of what he thinks the health care system should look, and has been making empty, ludicrous and false promises since his campaign for the presidency began.

We will save our country from Donald Trump and his pathological supporters

Corruption squared.

Three years into their new careers as White House officials, Ivanka Trump, the president’s eldest daughter, and her husband, Jared Kushner, reported income of at least $36 million in 2019, according to financial disclosure reports made public on Friday.

The couple’s investments, mostly in real estate, were worth at least $204 million and as much as $783 million, roughly the same as their maximum value of $786 million in 2018.

The documents, like other federal disclosure reports, show ranges of income and asset values. In some cases, they require only a minimum figure, making it impossible to discern a precise maximum figure for income. (President Trump also released his annual financial disclosure report on Friday.)

During 2019, the couple’s income could have been as much as $157 million, and possibly more. That compares with a range in 2018 of $29 million to $135 million.

Mr. Kushner’s continued stake in his family real estate firm, Kushner Companies, has drawn criticism, as the company has sought investments from around the world, despite his government position, including his role as an unofficial diplomat in the Middle East.

Although he has shed some assets, he has retained the vast majority of properties that were in his portfolio when he entered government service. Mr. Kushner stepped down from his position with Kushner Companies before he started working in the government.

Mr. Kushner’s firm remained active in the real estate market in 2019, selling and buying properties in New York, New Jersey, Virginia and Ohio.

Overall, the couple’s income was also down compared with 2017, when they reported at least $82 million.

Mr. Kushner disclosed a new loan of $5 million to $25 million with Bank of America, an obligation he holds jointly with other members of a limited liability company.

Ms. Trump stepped down from her positions at her family’s company as well as her fashion business when her father became president. She said in 2018 that she was shutting down her fashion brand. She did retain stakes in some of the family’s businesses and continues to draw income from them.

She earned $3.95 million from the Trump International Hotel in Washington, the same as she earned in 2017 and 2018. The property has drawn criticism over concerns that guests there are using their hotel stays as a way to influence the administration.

All told, Ms. Trump reported 2019 income of at least $5.5 million compared with a minimum of $6.7 million in 2018.

Australian authorities are ordering the severest shutdowns the country has yet imposed. A state of emergency has been declared in Melbourne and the strictest ever stay at home orders are in effect.

I am reminded of a while back when Dr. Fauci was trying to impress on Trump the possible severity of what the world might be facing and Trump was being so dismissive that finally Dr. Fauci cried out in despair, "But Mr. President, people will be dying."

Malik took to Twitter late night on Monday to post what has emerged to have been a fake birth certificate of President Obama which indicated that he was born on August 4, 1961 at the Coast General Hospital, Mombasa, in the Republic of Kenya.

KOT were however quick to note that Kenya only became a republic in 1964, hence it was impossible for President Obama to have been born in the 'Republic of Kenya' in 1961.

Others were also keen enough to zoom in and discover that the seal at the bottom of the certificate showing that it originated from the Office of the Principal Registrar of the Coast Province actually read 'Australia' and not Kenya.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — More than a thousand people showed up in downtown Portland early Saturday to peacefully protest, about three days after the announcement that the presence of U.S. agents there would be reduced — a deal that Oregon officials hope will continue to ease tensions as the city tries to move on from months of chaotic nightly protests.

Friday's overnight protest mimicked that of Thursday, which was the first time in weeks that demonstrations ended without any major confrontations, violence or arrests. The change in tone outside a federal courthouse that’s become ground zero in clashes between demonstrators and federal agents came after the U.S. government began drawing down its forces in the liberal city under a deal between Democratic Gov. Kate Brown and the Trump administration.

As of midnight on Saturday, no federal agents had emerged from the courthouse, which has been the center of protests for weeks, and there was no noticeable law enforcement presence surrounding the area.

The fence that has separated protesters and U.S. agents stationed at the courthouse was decorated with balloons and upside down American flags sewn together with “BLM” painted across, an apparent reference to the Black Lives Matter movement.

At one point in the night a small firework was shot over the fence. As it sizzled out on its own, protesters pleaded with others to remain peaceful. Later, a few small fires were occasionally started outside the courthouse, with at least one put out by other protesters.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Unlike previous weeks, protesters were not centered mainly outside the courthouse, but scattered throughout downtown.

A group identified as “Firefighters for Black Lives Matter” gathered in a small park a couple miles west of the courthouse. Another group, “Unemployed Workers for Black Lives” began to march towards the federal building around 8 p.m. People stood next to a makeshift memorial, with the pictures and names of Black people killed by police, at the Waterfront Park. A parade of cars with Black Lives Matter signs taped to their windows slowed traffic in the city.

Just after midnight, the crowd had grown to over 1,000 people who remained outside chanting “Black Lives Matter” and shouting the names of Black people killed by police. Groups were also standing together engaging in conversations about social injustice. In a news release early Saturday, the Portland Police Bureau described the crowd as subdued and said there was no police interaction with protesters.

As agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the U.S. Marshals Service and Immigration and Customs Enforcement pulled back, troopers with the Oregon State Police took over. Since then, there have been no visible signs of any federal law enforcement presence outside the Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse.

In a tweet, President Donald Trump Friday night reiterated that the Department of Homeland Security “is not leaving Portland until local police complete cleanup of Anarchists and Agitators!”

“Last night, the world was watching Portland," Brown said in a tweet Friday. “Here’s what they saw: Federal troops left downtown. Local officials protected free speech. And Oregonians spoke out for Black Lives Matter, racial justice, and police accountability.”

Mayor Ted Wheeler also struck an optimistic tone but cautioned that there was much work to be done after more than 60 days of protests — and not just in cleaning up downtown Portland.

Leaders in Oregon are pushing for a raft of measures that would address systemic racism in everything from policing to housing. Those proposals could be fast-tracked for consideration in a special legislative session later this summer.

The governor also announced the creation of a Racial Justice Council to advise her on criminal justice reform and police accountability, health equity, economic opportunity, housing and homelessness, and environmental justice.

Portland’s City Council also voted this week to refer a ballot measure to voters in November that would create a police review board independent from any elected official or city department.

The scene outside the federal courthouse stood in sharp contrast to the violent clashes between protesters and the agents that Trump sent to Oregon’s largest city in early July. Protests have roiled Portland for more than two months following the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

And while thousands have marched and rallied peacefully, Portland’s federal courthouse became a target for some protesters. Smaller numbers of demonstrators tried to tear down a fence erected to protect it, lit fires at the courthouse entryway and hurled fireworks, flares and bricks at the agents holed up inside. Most nights, the agents responded by firing tear gas.

Under the deal announced by the governor, the agents will withdraw in phases.

The U.S. government had arrested 94 people as of Wednesday, the most recent accounting. Since the protests began, Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell said local police made more than 400 arrests.

Alexander Vindman Takes Parting Shot At Donald Trump In Military Retirement Op-Ed

The key impeachment witness said his decision was prompted by a “campaign of bullying, intimidation and retaliation” by the president and his allies.
By Lee Moran

Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman on Saturday took aim at President Donald Trump in an op-ed announcing his retirement from the military, in which he likened the Trump administration to an authoritarian regime.

In a column for The Washington Post,
Vindman explained that he’d “made the difficult decision to retire” after 21 years service “because a campaign of bullying, intimidation and retaliation by President Trump and his allies forever limited the progression of my military career.”

Vindman, a Purple Heart recipient, was a key witness in the impeachment of Trump over the Ukraine scandal. Trump was accused of pressuring Ukraine’s president to dig up dirt on Democratic rival Joe Biden in exchange for withheld military aid.

Trump fired Vindman, a Ukrainian American, from the National Security Council in February in retaliation for his testimony.

The whole experience was “painful,” Vindman wrote in the editorial.

But he acknowledged he was “not alone in this ignominious fate,” saying his circumstances were “little different from those of dozens of other lifelong public servants who have left this administration with their integrity intact but their careers irreparably harmed.”

“At no point in my career or life have I felt our nation’s values under greater threat and in more peril than at this moment,” Vindman warned. “Our national government during the past few years has been more reminiscent of the authoritarian regime my family fled more than 40 years ago than the country I have devoted my life to serving.”

Vindman also criticized Trump’s disastrous response to the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent collapse of the economy.

But he ended on an optimistic note, describing himself as hopeful “for the future for both my family and for our nation” and vowing to “continue to defend my nation.”

“Impeachment exposed Trump’s corruption, but the confluence of a pandemic, a financial crisis and the stoking of societal divisions has roused the soul of the American people,” he said.

“To this day, despite everything that has happened, I continue to believe in the American Dream,” Vindman concluded. “I believe that in America, right matters. I want to help ensure that right matters for all Americans.”

THIS IS THE STATEMENT OF AN AMERICAN HERO, AND WILL BE SEEN AS SUCH BY HISTORY, WHILE YOU WHO CLAIM VINDMAN IS A TRAITOR WILL BE SEEN ALONG WITH TRUMP AND HIS OTHER GOP SUPPORTERS AS THE REAL TRAITORS TO OUR NATION.

It was clear when President Trump woke up on Thursday morning, with no pollster left to lie to him, and not enough Fox News sycophancy to fill his cereal bowl, that he would have to play one of the last tricks in the dictator’s handbook.

He floated the idea of breaching the Constitution by illegally delaying the national election. It follows his logic on a pandemic that has taken more than 150,000 American lives. If there were less testing for the coronavirus, cases would go down. Ergo, if there were no election on Nov. 3, he couldn’t be booted from office in a wipeout. The stable genius strikes again!

Here’s a better suggestion: As a mortal threat to those looking for life-or-death guidance from the White House, he should do humanity a favor and surrender now. He can quit while he’s only behind by 10 points or so. More important, by walking away today, he can save many lives of supporters who have listened to the lethal quackery from the presidential podium.

He gave up in the war on Covid-19 from Day 1, when he declared that there was nothing to worry about, it would all soon disappear like magic. And his throw-in-the-towel tactics continue to this day, as he promotes the harmful and bizarre suggestions of a woman who also believes in demon sperm transmitted through dreams.

President Trump on Saturday publicly rejected Anthony Fauci's analysis on why the United States has experienced a surge in coronavirus cases, claiming that the nation's top infectious disease expert wasn't accounting for the U.S. testing capacity.

"Wrong!" Trump said in a tweet that linked to a video of Fauci's Friday testimony before Congress.

ADVERTISING

In a hearing focused on the federal response to the global health crisis, Fauci said that the U.S. was experiencing a much more severe resurgence in coronavirus cases than countries in Europe because many American states failed to completely shut down.

"If you look at what happened in Europe when they shut down or locked down or went into shelter-in-place. … They really did it to the tune of about 95-plus percent of the country did that," Fauci said.

"When you actually look at what we did, even though we shut down, even though we created a great deal of difficulty, we really functionally shut down only about 50 percent in the sense of the totality of the country," he added.

Trump, who has repeatedly touted the U.S. testing capacity in the face of criticism, claimed in his Saturday tweet that the reason the country had such a high case count was because "we have tested far more than any other country."

"If we tested less, there would be less cases. How did Italy, France & Spain do? Now Europe sadly has flare ups. Most of our governors worked hard & smart. We will come back STRONG," Trump said.

The comments marked the latest instance in which tensions between those in the White House and Fauci have spilled out into the open. Several administration officials have publicly questioned Fauci's health assessments, with White House trade adviser Peter Navarro writing in a USA Today op-ed last month that American should treat the health expert's advice with skepticism.

Trump last week retweeted a message that Fauci has "misled" the American people on a variety of issues, including the safety of a controversial anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine. Fauci responded by saying that he has not misled the public about the pandemic.

As of Sunday morning, the U.S. had reported more than 4.6 million cases of COVID-19, the diseased caused by the novel coronavirus, and roughly 154,000 deaths stemming from it, according to a Johns Hopkins University database. A sustained surge in infections in recent months spurred many states to halt reopening plans and implement mask mandates.

Trump has continually cited the U.S. testing capacity as the reason for these surges. Health experts, including Fauci, have said, however, that an uptick in cases cannot be explained by an increase in testing.

Fauci reiterated this point during his testimony on Friday, stating that the surge in cases was caused by several factors, including states not abiding "strictly by the guidelines that the task force and the White House had put out" when beginning a phased reopening.

Trump has maintained that he hars a good relationship with Fauci, who polls have shown to be one of the most trusted voices in the country speaking about the health crisis.

And now we should go back and add all the people who died with H1N1 so we can have an apples to apples comparison.

Obama may have killed who knows, a half million people?, using lib logic.

GREED.

it IS that simple.

when trying to understand the left's position on an issue you will never be wrong if you follow the money.

i've already talked to parents who are organizing and banding together, by grade, to set home homeschool classrooms in the homes. their kids will receive an education one way or another. and a couple are taking the long view and are seeing this leftist over reach as a good thing. this may serve to inform the public just how worthless our public school teachers have become. fuck 'em. let's use this as an opportunity to put them right the fuck out of business. they're greedy union scum. fucking thieves. and need to be treated like fucking thieves.

the year i graduated HS the US was #1 in the world in math and science. now we're something like #17 & #19 respectively.

randi weingarten pulls down total compensation of $497,118.00 for leading the team that is utterly FAILING our kids.

fuck these scumbags.

they need to be destroyed.

An elderly woman was attacked by a person who refused to wear a mask in public and broke her leg

I expect this person was another woman because if it was a man, they would have said it was a man.

1. The elderly woman had no business telling other woman to wear a mask. She has no authority to dictate who and who can't were mask.
2. The other woman should have kept here cool and told her to fuck off. However, if the "elderly woman" was harassing or otherwise blocking, grabbing or interfering with the other woman's business with Staples then the "elderly woman" committed an assault. In which case the other woman had every right to defend herself.

I summary you don't have a right to enforce standards you yourself hold on other people. Any attempt to do so constitutes harassment and assault.

Anonymous said...

and now we know that the killing of the elderly is intentional:

Michigan Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer vetoed a Republican bill on Friday that would have kept coronavirus patients out of nursing homes and placed them in entirely separate facilities — an effort aimed at protecting those most vulnerable to developing serious complications from the coronavirus, which originated in China.

“The bill was a direct challenge to the Whitmer administration’s current handling of nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has focused on caring for those with the virus in isolated spaces of existing homes,” The Detroit News reported. “About 33% of the state’s deaths linked to the virus have been nursing home residents or employees, according to state data.”

Good news from California

For the fifth consecutive day, California reported fewer coronavirus-related hospitalizations, leading to a decrease of 25% since July 26, according to state reports. There were 6,459 hospitalizations Saturday, Aug. 1, or 1,540 fewer hospitalizations (-19%) than the previous day.

The state’s number of total cases topped 500,000 (506,456) since reporting began, and 9,354 people have died as of Saturday. There were 6,896 new cases of the coronavirus and 182 new deaths reported, according to unofficial counts from county websites. California health officials reported the state’s first coronavirus death of a child on Friday, saying the victim in the Central Valley was a teenager who had other health conditions.
