Hard to say whether it's peculiar to the Democrats or just a general exhaustion for politics. (I believe it's the former).
Either way that bodes well for the incumbent. Usually and especially when things are going well (sans pandemic) people need a compelling reason to upset the apple cart and change presidents.
I don't think not personally liking Trump is a good enough reason for most swing voters. Many are old enough to regret the decision to vote for Carter.
Believe it or not James people liked being employed in high-paying manufacture jobs and have enough disposable income to take a vacation and have some of the nicer things in life.
Under Trump the midwest, and rust belt was making a comeback and fracking lead the the revitalization of the economies in Pennsylvania Texas, Oklahoma, North Dakota and every other state it was allowed.
Unemployment was at a record low and medium incomes were rising.
And it was all due to Trump's tax and trade policies.

His one glancing mention of China was that his administration would not depend on them for medical supplies, a policy Trump is already pursuing.
The absence of any policy ideas was striking, especially because so many commentators expected them. The whole convention, they noted, had been devoted to attacking Trump, which left Biden was free to explain what he would do in office and how his policies would make the country better. In her emotion-driven speech to the virtual Democratic National Convention, Obama made several claims that are at best misleading. She may believe them, but that doesn’t make them true. For example:

But The Balance ranked that ninth among job-creating presidents. Even Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter, with only one term, added more jobs than Obama-Biden. Needless to say, “We’re number nine!” doesn’t sound like the best campaign slogan.
Yes, it was a long stretch of job creation, but only because job growth was so slow. Obama-Biden oversaw the slowest economic recovery since World War II, according to CNN — an average of 2 percent a year as compared to the average annual economic growth of 4 percent. Think of it as the “turtle recovery.” It kept moving forward but at a very slow pace.
“We'd secured the right to health care for 20,000,000 people.” On the other hand, millions of Americans — including my wife — lost their health coverage because of ObamaCare. In fact, so many Americans were seeing their coverage canceled that President Obama apologized to the American people on Nov. 7, 2013, essentially conceding that his (in)famous pledge “If you like your health plan you can keep your health plan” was a lie. Indeed, Politifact ranked it the 2013 “Lie of the Year.”
But there is another point that the left, including Michelle Obama, has never acknowledged: Having access to health insurance is not the same as having access to health care. While the Affordable Care Act did expand Medicaid coverage in states that agreed to it, and some uninsured individuals with a preexisting medical condition were able to get coverage, many major health care providers, such as the world-renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center, will not accept ObamaCare — because it’s such bad coverage.
That denial of care is only a preview of what we will see as Biden-Harris move us toward Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) dream of a government-run health care system.

Glitches were few, to the great relief of the Democrats’ production team, which oversaw the event from a pair of control rooms in Wilmington and Milwaukee, the original site of the convention before its in-person elements were canceled. The convention had an interactive element, as well, with at least one viewer: President Trump, who reacted in real time, often angrily, to the events unfolding on his screen.
On Thursday, Mr. Trump opted to have his own say on the matter, phoning into Fox News for a live interview on “Hannity” — a breach of past protocol. Presidents have typically deferred to their electoral rivals on the week of a convention.

Here's what it says in the 12th amendment:

The number covers viewership across 10 broadcast and cable networks from 10 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. Eastern time. It does not include people who watched via online platforms.
Thursday's proceedings concluded with Joe Biden accepting the Democratic Party's nomination for president in a speech delivered live from his home state of Delaware.
TV viewership was 17% lower than the night in 2016 when Hillary Clinton spoke as the party's first female presidential nominee. But the figures do not include online platforms that have jumped in popularity in the past four years as traditional TV viewership has declined.
Biden's campaign estimated there were an additional 35.5 million live streams over the convention's four days via websites and through digital platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. The statement did not say for how long each viewer streamed the event.
Democrats canceled plans to convene delegates and party leaders in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, they staged a virtual event with celebrity moderators introducing live and recorded remarks from around the country.
The TV audience rose on each night of the event, with Monday's kickoff drawing 19.8 million viewers, Nielsen said.
If no candidate receives 270 electoral votes, the House of Representatives will pick the president. Each state delegation gets one vote, regardless of the number of congressional districts it has. 26 votes, representing a majority of the states, are required to win.

I'm sure there are some democrats (the ones not so well versed in civics and the constitution) that are hoping it's thrown to the house thinking their majority will carry the day. But it won't. When the house selects a president then each state gets one vote and since there are more red states than blue states Trump will win re-election.

LOS ANGELES, Aug 21 (Reuters) - The closing night of the virtual Democratic National Convention attracted roughly 24.6 million primetime television viewers, the largest audience of the week, according to data from the Nielsen ratings agency.
The number covers viewership across 10 broadcast and cable networks from 10 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. Eastern time. It does not include people who watched via online platforms.
Thursday's proceedings concluded with Joe Biden accepting the Democratic Party's nomination for president in a speech delivered live from his home state of Delaware.
TV viewership was 17% lower than the night in 2016 when Hillary Clinton spoke as the party's first female presidential nominee. But the figures do not include online platforms that have jumped in popularity in the past four years as traditional TV viewership has declined.
Biden's campaign estimated there were an additional 35.5 million live streams over the convention's four days via websites and through digital platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. The statement did not say for how long each viewer streamed the event.
Democrats canceled plans to convene delegates and party leaders in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, they staged a virtual event with celebrity moderators introducing live and recorded remarks from around the country.
The TV audience rose on each night of the event, with Monday's kickoff drawing 19.8 million viewers, Nielsen said.
If no candidate receives 270 electoral votes, the House of Representatives will pick the president. Each state delegation gets one vote, regardless of the number of congressional districts it has. 26 votes, representing a majority of the states, are required to win.
The Republicans will have to get the majority, the house of Representatives will have one vote. They need to get 26 states. Speaker Pelosi will be inaugurated by the Chief justice Roberts

Trump won 30 states in 2016 assuming each of those states has a majority republican delegation then Trump would handily win re-election if the election was thrown to the house in 2020.
