So the left is having a complete meltdown over the fact that Attorney General William Barr (who has led the Office of Legal Counsel, acted as Deputy Attorney General, and is one of only two men to twice be Attorney General of the United States) believes that is is within his authority to actually run the Department of Justice.
Apparently there is some sort of partisanship involved when the Attorney General actually attempts to set the direction and oversee the Department he is tasked constitutionally to set direction for and to oversee. Or at least this is a problem when the Attorney General is appointed by Donald Trump (aka: Trump derangement syndrome).
This is interesting because if we go back to the previous President and his Attorney General, it was not only accepted, but seen as a good thing that Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch were in place to push the Department of Justice in the direction that President Obama wanted it to go. Because up until a couple of years ago, it was accepted that political appointees might actually act in some sort of political fashion and actually serve the President and work to promote the President's agenda.
Or as they say... a political appointee might actually serve at the pleasure of the President.
To further solidify this point we must remember that Eric Holder repeatedly suggested to anyone who would listen that he was the President's "wingman" and made no qualms that his job was to push the department in the direction that Obama wanted it pushed to.
This included shutting down political investigations into Democrats, while pushing wild and crazy conspiracy theories that Donald Trump was a Russian asset and that his election victory was because of "the Russians". The list of investigations that were "shut down" by Obama AGs included credible allegations of voter intimidation by groups of Black Panthers, the issues with Fast and Furious, probable illegal payments to Iran (pallets of billions in cash that had no congressional approval), and the entire investigation into the Benghazi terror attacks.
Ironically it was basically assumed that the DOJ was not going to ever seriously investigate these actions, as there was a feeling back then that the Obama administration was the Obama administration and why would they investigate themselves?
But Eric Holder didn't stop at just politicizing the Department of Justice (which insiders claim was more politicized than it has been since the Nixon Administration), but they quite literally extended their reach all the way down to city Governments. Several DOJ attacks at local police departments and cities were prevalent, including the entire concept of "police retraining" (to account for systemic racism) that was coerced by the DOJ onto these local governments and police departments with threats of Federal legal action if they didn't comply.
What is the difference (other than your political beliefs) when the DOJ attempts to influence governments to change their police tactics to make them more lenient versus the DOJ coming into local areas and protecting Federal property or charging United States Citizens with Federal crimes. If the former is acceptable (and it certainly was to most liberals) then the latter is equally acceptable.
The rules of Government do not change just because liberals don't like who is in charge. You cannot expand Federal powers for Democrats when they run the Federal Government and then work to limit them when a Republican is in charge. That simply isn't the way it works... as much as the left would like it to.

The Democratic chairpersons of four key House committees on Friday asked the Justice Department’s internal watchdog to investigate whether U.S. Attorney John Durham’s probe into the Russian collusion investigation is being used for partisan gain ahead of the November election.
In a letter to Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, the four chairs called for an “emergency” probe into whether Attorney General William P. Barr, who appointed Mr. Durham, could use the controversial investigation to “improperly influence the upcoming presidential election.”
The chairs are also calling for a review of Mr. Durham’s legal authority and whether he was the power “to issue a public report about a subject who has not yet been charged in federal court.”
“Attorney General Barr has signaled repeatedly that he is likely to allow DOJ to take prosecutorial actions, make public disclosures, even issue reports before the presidential election in November,” the Democrats wrote. “Such actions clearly appear intended to benefit President Trump politically.”
