This is being "taught" to second grade students?
When the girl asks why the man was fired upon, her sister replies, “It wasn’t a mistake. The cops shot him because he was black.”
“And they don’t like black men.”
The boy inquires, “What if it was a white man in the car?”
“They probably wouldn’t have even stopped the car.”
“[T]his pattern is being nice to white people and mean to black people.”
As for the little boy, his father assures him the officer “won’t go to jail.”
And that’s all because — to be clear — “Cops stick up for each other.”
To be clear, there have been over three dozen cops shot and killed by criminals so far this year. The vast majority of those cops were shot by blacks. Several police have been shot specifically because of recent events and not in the line of actual criminal apprehension. People just shooting them and many times stating it's because of recent racial tensions. Like killing a cop is just an act of war or something. This seems to be glossed over as acceptable, if not actually justified in the minds of some.
While we have had some "high profile" police killings of criminal suspects in 2020, it's within the realm of reasonableness to suggest that almost all of these fell under what would generally be considered justified. We are also seeing way less of these than we had just a few years ago.
The reality is that we are not so much teaching children that cops are racist as much as we are condoning and normalizing criminal behavior. We are teaching children that black people are free to commit crimes, resist arrest, and even assault police officers, and that any response to this is considered racism.
How many times have we glorified a criminal. Have we just accepted that someone who behaves in lawless and violent fashion should be considered "a good boy" because that is what the grieving mother says. How often do we look at some high school photo designed to make the criminal look innocent and feel sorry for the person. How often do we pretend that certain crimes are not important enough for police to attend to, and had we just left them alone to commit those crimes, that none of this would have happened...
As if the problem isn't the criminal, but rather the idea that we don't let them get away with it? How can a cop do their job, when society is trying to teach gradeschoolers that anytime there is interaction between a cop and a black person, it's aways the cop's fault?
Wait... isn't that bigotry?

Chuck Todd says the softball questions to Biden were just luck. What a jackass.
On Constitution Day this week, we contemplated 233 years since the signing of our national charter. I write with profound concern that our Constitution is under attack by Attorney General William Barr. His politically motivated assault on the rule of law, the norms of procedural due process and our election systems undermine our system of government and threaten our basic liberties. Nothing is more sacred for our nation than the Constitution. My oath as a member of Congress, to support and defend the Constitution, compels me to confront this corruption. That is why I have attempted to address these concerns by introducing H. Res. 1032, calling for an inquiry into whether Barr should be impeached. Some people counsel patience but I'm reminded of what wise men have always known: If we do not stand up to injustice, our silent indifference will condemn us.
The facts are beyond dispute. His politicization of the Justice Department is a danger to us all. Barr's ordering the Justice Department to intervene in the prosecution of the Michael Flynn case - and attempting to dismiss the charges to which Flynn had already pleaded guilty, and over the objections of career prosecutors - is beyond unacceptable. He ordered the reduction of the proposed sentence for President Trump's friend and advisor convicted felon Roger Stone, again against recommendations of prosecutors. He ordered the dismissal of the U.S. Attorney in New York who was known to be investigating those close to Donald Trump. When the pandemic prompted prisons to release offenders on humanitarian grounds, Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, got home release. But his former lawyer Michael Cohen was released and then thrown back into solitary confinement when he refused to give up his First Amendment right to publish his Trump memoir, Disloyal, and wasn't released until a federal judge found his treatment had been retaliatory and unlawful. Barr's actions suggest that the laws which govern criminal conduct in our country are for the rest of us, not for the friends and family of the president. The Constitution guarantees equal justice under the law and due process. The harm he has done to the professional pride of those in the Department, and his evident contempt for their institutional memory, devotion to justice and judgment (calling them "preschoolers"), will be difficult memories to erase.
Barr's hyperbolic and exaggerated claims invite ridicule of his high office. For example, his recent comments comparing public health quarantines to slavery shows an almost incomprehensible and stomach-churning insensitivity, particularly since the victims of the coronavirus pandemic are disproportionately African American.
Eighty percent of the faculty of George Washington University Law School, which granted Barr his J.D. in 1977 and conferred upon him an honorary degree in 1992, recently condemned his actions as Trump's attorney general. Their letter said he has "undermined the rule of law, damaged public confidence that the law applies equally and fairly to all persons and demonstrated contempt for basic Constitutional rights."
It then concluded that he has "failed to support and defend the Constitution of the United States." I believe the situation is worse. Barr's is actively weakening and attacking the core of our democracy.
Barr was present and reportedly ordered the unleashing of federal police on peaceful protestors exercising their First Amendment rights, clearing Lafayette Square so the president could have his picture taken with a Bible outside the historic St. John's Church. He later termed those exercising their right to protest "seditious."
What's more, as the nation's top law enforcement official, Barr now eschews norms, established for centuries, that keep the attorney general above the partisan fray. In fact, he is actively using his office to weaken our elections for the purpose of strengthening Donald Trump's candidacy. He deliberately misled the public on the substance and significance of special counsel Robert Mueller's report on ("systematic and sweeping") Russian meddling in the 2016 election and has now appointed federal prosecutors to muddy both its legitimacy and procedures. And rather than follow precedent in matters bearing on the outcome of imminent elections, he as much as admits he plans to announce what are sure to be partisan and misleading allegations as an October Surprise in aid of his benefactor.
Recently, Barr has sought to question the fairness of mail-in voting on national television. Having no evidence to support his claims of rampant fraud or counterfeit ballots, Barr turned to inuendo and distortions, then claimed "logic" justified his concern. I have demanded he make a correction of his misleading statements, but he has so far failed to do so. In our system, the Tenth Amendment dictates that the election laws are administered by the states and Barr's purposeful spread of misinformation is both inappropriate and harmful.
Our Constitution was written to withstand the bluster of tyrants and the zeal of those whose ambitions tear at its fabric. It is resilient because the American people are committed to its principles. Barr is a unique case: sworn to support and defend the Constitution, he declines. We are a nation of laws, not people. We need an attorney general committed to our highest law, and that's why Barr must go.

Learning from a retraction
The Editors of the Lancet Group
The publication and subsequent retraction1, 2 in June, 2020, of the Article Hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine with or without a macrolide for treatment of COVID-19: a multinational registry analysis, based on an alleged dataset associated with Surgisphere, prompted us to examine The Lancet's peer-review processes to identify ways of further reducing risks of research and publication misconduct. As a result of this review, with immediate effect, we have made changes to the declarations we seek from authors, the data sharing statements we require for published research papers, and the peer-review process for similar papers based on large datasets or real-world data.
Changes to the signed declarations by authors in the author statements form will require that more than one author has directly accessed and verified the data reported in the manuscript. We will require that the authors who have accessed and verified underlying data are named in the contributors' statement. For research Articles that are the result of an academic and commercial partnership, one of the authors named as having accessed and verified data must be from the academic team. In addition, all authors will be asked to sign the author statements form to confirm they had full access to the data reported in their Article, and accept responsibility for submitting the Article for publication.

Ch based his thread article on reporting in Red State.
No wonder. They have sold out to Trump the same way Ch has.
from Wikipedia:
In August 2015, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was disinvited from the annual RedState gathering following controversial statements he made about American journalist Megyn Kelly; Kelly was invited to the gathering instead.[2] RedState was then one of the main centers of conservative opposition to Trump's campaign for the Presidency, with most of its writers and editors vocally opposing Trump.[21][22]
In March 2018, a RedState contributor posted a story questioning whether David Hogg, a 17-year-old survivor in the Parkland school shooting, was actually in the school during the time of the shooting.[23] RedState backtracked later and the writer of the story apologized.[23] RedState added an "update" to the story, but did not provide a "correction"....
That same month, a RedState contributor wrote an article criticizing Tammy Duckworth's defense of an undocumented immigrant Army veteran who was deported.[24] The RedState article said that Tammy Duckworth "really doesn't have a leg to stand on"; Duckworth is a veteran who lost both her legs in Iraq in 2004.[24] RedState's Assistant Editor, Andrea Ruth, who is also a double amputee, revised the statement.
In April 2018, there were mass firings of staff at RedState, including the managing editor, Caleb Howe.[3] CNN reported that multiple sources claimed that those who were fired were targeted for removal because they were insufficiently supportive of President Trump.[3]
In January 2019, three senior contributors for RedState resigned, after they noticed that articles for RedState critical about President Trump were not promoted via social media. In an article for TheBulwark.com, Kimberly Ross and Andrea Ruth stated that "it’s hard not to note the irony that Salem Media, a company that targets “audiences interested in Christian and family-themed content and conservative values,” threw its full support behind Donald Trump, a thrice-married lying philanderer who utilized bankruptcy laws and debt to con tenants and contractors out of their money. Salem now promotes anyone who is pro-Trump, even if those people gleefully flout Christian principles."

Census Bureau: American Incomes Hit All-Time High In 2019
Median household income reached an all-time high, coming in at $68,700 in 2019. That is a 6.8% increase, from $64,324 in 2018, the largest one-year increase on record. The poverty rate fell to the lowest in recorded history, at 10.5%, a decline of 1.3%. The poverty level fell for the fifth consecutive year.
The specifics that Trump often refers to - the categories of specific demographics tell the tale, too. Real median incomes grew for black Americans (7.9%), Hispanic Americans (7.1%), and Asian Americans (10.6%). Remember when then-candidate Trump asked minority voters, "What the hell do you have to lose?" Any minority voter that took that challenge to heart has been vindicated, certainly economically speaking. Income levels for minorities reached record levels.
There were 2.2 million more people working at some point in 2019 compared with 2018 and 1.2 million more people working full-time year-round. Women workers drove the increase in full-time year-round workers.

The @JoeBiden camp still hasn’t released info to all media as far as exact time and location. We had to get it from NBC. Also, it’s pool only. No media inside the hall. They also yanked the only one-on-one interview. Begs the question: what’s the point of coming here at all??
Dems and the @MinnesotaDFL have been very critical (and rightfully so) of Republicans holding rallies with no distancing and masks. But they also need to look in the mirror. No media communication, “virtual” rallies and very little campaigning isn’t a recipe for success.
Yes there’s a pandemic. But all we hear from dems is “our democracy is at stake.” If so, might want to start campaigning like that’s the case. This @JoeBiden visit was badly bungled by his people.
If the party wakes up Nov. 4 and republicans have the House, Senate and WH, I don’t think the first words from their mouths will be “hey, at least we slowed the spread.”

The U.S. Postal Service had drafted a press release announcing plans to send 650 million masks out across the U.S. early in the coronavirus crisis, but the White House ultimately abandoned the plan, The Washington Post reported Thursday.
The plan would have sent a pack of five reusable masks to every residential address in the country, the Post reported, citing one of thousands of internal post office documents obtained by watchdog group American Oversight.
"Our organization is uniquely suited to undertake this historic mission of delivering face coverings to every American household in the fight against the COVID-19 virus," then-Postmaster General and CEO Megan J. Brennan said in the scrapped news release, which was dated to be released in April.
Brennan was succeeded in the summer by Louis DeJoy, whose drastic cost-cutting measures at the government agency have sparked controversy in advance of the 2020 election.
The idea to have USPS ship out personal protective equipment came from the Department of Health and Human Services, the Post reported. The reported plan was to start distributing masks in April, with Covid-19 hot spots getting first priority.
The newly uncovered documents suggest the government had initially intended to utilize the Postal Service in early pandemic response plans. The distribution program would have come at a time when President Donald Trump largely resisted wearing a mask.
The White House ultimately canceled the program,

ALBANY — Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday defended getting raises that will make him the highest-paid governor in America.
“The salary adjustments were done last December by the pay commission which publicized and put out a report, which was accepted by the legislature,” Cuomo said in a WNYC radio interview.
“That was published and discussed in December, so there’s nothing new on that.”
A special commission recommended that Cuomo’s $179,000 salary be increased to $200,000 this year, $225,000 in 2020 and $250,000 in 2021.
Because the governor can’t sign off on his own pay hike, the raise required legislative action.
The state Senate approved the increase at 2:45 a.m. Monday and the Assembly acted a few hours later.
Some lawmakers grumbled that the measure was thrown in at the last minute, while they were grappling with the new $175.5 billion state budget.

Scott has been saying this is the truth about the virus. About testing for the COVID-19 infection.
NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. health officials on Friday dropped a controversial piece of coronavirus guidance and said anyone who has been in close contact with an infected person should get tested.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention essentially returned to its previous testing guidance, getting rid of language posted last month that said people didn’t need to get tested if they didn't feel sick. That change had set off a rash of criticism from health experts who couldn't fathom why the nation's top public health agency would say such a thing amid the pandemic.
It was "not consistent with the basic principles of controlling an epidemic,”said Dr. Silvia Chiang, a pediatric infectious diseases expert at Brown University who applauded the change announced Friday.
The CDC now says anyone who has been within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes should get a test. In a statement, the agency called the changes a “clarification” that was needed “due to the significance of asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic transmission.”

A former White House coronavirus official praised the “unwavering” work of the president's COVID-19 task force in her departure letter, before accusing President Trump of having a “flat out disregard for human life” and saying the "ongoing response" was "a failure."
In an interview with the Washington Post published on Thursday, Olivia Troye became the first official who worked extensively on the pandemic response to speak out against Trump, saying that his actions cost lives.
“The president’s rhetoric and his own attacks against people in his administration trying to do the work, as well as the promulgation of false narratives and incorrect information of the virus, have made this ongoing response a failure,” she said.
However, White House officials familiar with her work say she did not raise concerns during her time as an adviser and delivered glowing praise when she left.
“For the past six months, it has been an absolute honor working closely with all of you and your staffs, as part of the brain trust that has valiantly faced the challenges of fighting what has been one of the worst pandemics of our generation,” she wrote on July 23, according to the text of her letter obtained by the Washington Examiner.
“Having been on several conference calls into the late night hours starting in January, to supporting you day and night in every possible way to help you succeed in this mission, I have witnessed first hand how dedicated and committed all of you have been to doing the right thing.”

LANSING, Mich. -- A judge on Friday cleared the way for more absentee ballots to be counted in Michigan, saying envelopes postmarked by the eve of the Nov. 3 election are eligible, even if they show up days later.
The decision is significant in a state that is anticipating waves of absentee ballots this fall; about 2.3 million have already been requested. For absentee ballots to be counted, Michigan law requires them to be received by the time polls close on Election Day.
Court of Claims Judge Cynthia Stephens said there's a crucial need for flexibility in November, especially after more than 6,400 ballots were disqualified in the state's August primary election.
“The evidence in this case stands uncontroverted and establishes that the mail system is currently fraught with delays and uncertainty in light of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Stephens said.
An absentee ballot can be counted if postmarked by Nov. 2 and received within 14 days after the election, said Stephens, who noted that it can take two weeks to certify Michigan election results anyway.
The judge's order could cause a delay in declaring winners in some races. President Donald Trump won Michigan by only 10,000 votes in 2016.
