going on vacation...

I will be going on vacation and may or may not have much time to post. So figure I will just schedule the same post every day - since I've been told that it people hearing or reading something 13 times before they understand it:

Regarding Charlottesville
Trump: "Those people -- all of those people – excuse me, I’ve condemned neo-Nazis. I’ve condemned many different groups. But not all of those people were neo-Nazis, believe me. Not all of those people were white supremacists by any stretch. Those people were also there because they wanted to protest the taking down of a statue of Robert E. Lee."
Trump: "As I said on -- remember, Saturday -- we condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence. It has no place in America. And then it went on from there. Now, here’s the thing --"
Trump: "So you know what, it’s fine. You’re changing history. You’re changing culture. And you had people -- and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists -- because they should be condemned totally. But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists. Okay? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly.

Regarding blm and Antifa riots:

Biden: There is no such thing as antifa. Antifa is an idea, not an organization.

Hope Hicks, one of President Trump’s closest advisers, has tested positive for the coronavirus, ABC News reports.

“Hicks tested positive this week after traveling with the president on Tuesday to and from the first presidential debate on Air Force One.

“Hicks was also on Marine One, the president’s helicopter, when it left the White House to fly to Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday.”

Bloomberg: “Hicks was seen on Tuesday riding maskless in a staff van with White House senior adviser Stephen Miller, campaign adviser Jason Miller and others.”

I did not write this, but it seems accurate to me...

Someone yesterday asked us “but what has President Trump done to you PERSONALLY over the last 4 years that’s so terrible?”
After 24 hours of allowing my blood to cool, here’s my best answer.
-Let’s leave aside insulting Gold Star Families because we’re not one.
-Let’s leave aside mocking a handicapped man because I’m not one.
-Let’s leave aside paying off porn actresses and other women who’ve accused him of assault because I’m not those women.
-Let’s leave aside kids in cages and families separated at the border because I’m not one.
-Let’s leave aside Dreamers because I’m not one.
-Let’s leave aside the woman that was killed in Charlottesville by “very fine people” because I’m not her.
-Let’s leave aside transgender soldiers who want to serve their country but were tossed out because I’m not one.
-Let’s leave aside de facto banning Muslims from entering the country because I’m not one.
-Let’s leave aside him telling police and rally goers to rough people up because I’m not one.
-Let’s leave aside calling the free press and good journalists “the enemy of the people” because I’m not one.
-Let’s leave aside the fact that he grossly attacked Senator McCain and Rep Dingle after they were dead because I’m not them.
-Let’s leave aside that he wanted (and has) stripped his political rivals or simply anyone he thinks makes him look bad of their security clearances and jobs because I’m not one.
-Let’s leave aside that he called many of our allies “shithole countries” because I’m not from one.
-Let’s leave aside that he left Americans to die following a devastating storm in Puerto Rico because I’m not one.
-Let’s leave aside his vilification of immigrants, especially brown and black immigrants, and workers that have had built homes in our country since our founding because I’m not one.
-Let’s leave aside his war on black athletes that express their political beliefs because I’m not one.
-Let’s leave aside his war on women who speak against him because I’m not one.
-Let’s leave aside his war on LGTBQ+ people who dare find happiness and live in fear of having their right to love their partners or their children taken away because I’m not one.
-Let’s leave aside that he cleared peaceful protestors from in front of the White House for a photo op at a church he’s never been to with a book he’s never read because I wasn’t one.
———
So all of that aside, what’s left?
What did he do to me/us personally?
Here’s a start:
-He’s constantly gaslit the American people, including me, on everything from the crowd size at his inauguration to his own dismantling of the USPS thereby destroying the trust of the people in the very basic facts that exist in our everyday lives.
-He’s effectively eliminated the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, including ours, delaying economic freedom for so many families.
-He’s hired grifters and cheats as staffers and agency leaders that have wasted millions of tax dollars, including mine, and fought every level of oversight into their actions.

.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

-He’s spent at least 133 days at his own golf properties on the taxpayers dime, including mine, totaling over an estimated $140,000,000 or 350 years of Presidential salary that he’s “donated”
-He’s lied about meeting with and praised dictators all over the world including Putin, Un, Duterte, Erdogan, and numerous others and made the world less safe for democracies, including ours, for now and for the foreseeable future.
-He’s set a terrible example for character and leadership for every child in America, including mine, which was once a hallmark of the president’s public image (no matter how trite).
-He’s vilified protestors and incited violence in neighborhoods across America, including ours, and put tens of thousands of Americans under military-style lockdown.
-He led our nation to the longest shutdown in US history that impacted families and paychecks, including ours, because his ego was more important than his people.
-He’s broken down respect for the courts to the highest levels and every officer of the court, including me, and convinced millions that the final word of SCOTUS is a mere suggestion and not a mandate.
-He made the world less safe for Americans who travel internationally, including me, by helping the Saudi’s cover up the murder of an American.
-He’s made everyday goods more expensive for every household and every business, including mine, by lacking a basic understanding of how tariffs work and getting into an unwinable trade war with China.
-He’s made the world less safe for every single person, including me, by threatening to push his “big red button” and destroy a county/countries with nuclear weapons.
-He still has not released his tax returns to show his conflicts of interest, betraying not only the norms of his office but also the trust of his people, including me, while he presumably grows richer each year off of his office.
-And finally, he ignored every single warning he received for months about COVID-19 and then ignored his own experts when he finally believed it was real, endangering the lives of every American, including me, while shutting down the economy for at least six months, costing Americans 30 million jobs and destroying countless lives.
———-
Neither list was intended to be inclusive. Neither list could possibly actually be inclusive because it would crash the Facebook servers. Honestly, these are just the things that I could think of and remember off the top of my head without doing additional research looking for smaller transgressions.
Has he done some things that have benefitted me directly? Absolutely. In fact, I likely have more money in savings and investments now than I would have if Hillary had won. But I refuse to trade my personal well-being for the pain he has brought others and would gladly give back every penny to prevent that pain.
So you’re right, person who asked me; As a white, straight, upper income, middle-America, employed, educated and so-on-and-so on privilege classed male, the impact of Trump on me has not been near as direct as it has been on others who are unlike me in any of those categories. It seems like you believe he has had no notable negative impact on you at all. But I challenges you to read the list above and see if that’s really true.
Each time this president defies every norm and tradition and logical expectation, he harms the institution of the presidency, and thereby, us as the American people.
He protects himself first and above all else. Then his sycophants. Then those who don’t dare to speak. But never those who cannot speak or those that dare speak up. Those are his great weaknesses - pride over responsibility and vanity over compassion.
This entire post can be summed up as this: Character is leadership. Leadership is character. And this man possesses neither

You know, you all -- you really do have to ask yourself, where does it stop? But they were there to protest -- excuse me. You take a look, the night before, they were there to protest the taking down of the statue of Robert E. Lee. Infrastructure question, go ahead.

The October Surprise???

A federal judge has ordered the Justice Department (DOJ) to publish a less-redacted version of former special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Judge Reggie Walton of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia said on Wednesday that the department had failed to properly demonstrate the redacted information could be protected by a Freedom of Information Act exemption called the deliberative process privilege.

This exemption covers internal communications in the Executive Branch and is usually invoked to protect the decision-making process in federal agencies.

They immediately went after the Jews. At their Friday night rally at the University of Virginia, the white nationalists brandished torches and chanted anti-Semitic and Nazi slogans, including “blood and soil” (an English rendering of the Nazi “blut und boden”) and “Jews will not replace us” — all crafted to cast Jews as foreign interlopers who need to be expunged. The attendees proudly displayed giant swastikas and wore shirts emblazoned with quotes from Adolf Hitler. One banner read, “Jews are Satan’s children.”

The formal rally was scheduled to start at noon Saturday but the first skirmishes of the day between protesters and counter-protesters were reported that morning.

(MORE: Timeline: What led to the violence that unfolded in Charlottesville)
Tensions soared and Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency before noon that day. The violence reached its peak at 1:42 p.m. when James Alex Fields rammed his car into a crowd of counterprotesters.

Heyer was killed and 19 others were injured.

Two Virginia State Police troopers were killed when their helicopter crashed outside of Charlottesville. The troopers, Lt. H. Jay Cullen and Trooper-Pilot Berke M.M. Bates, were lending air support in response to the violence in Charlottesville.

Trump's controversial response
President Donald Trump was spending time at his golf club in Bedminister, New Jersey, and released a statement condemning the violence but not calling out the white nationalist and neo-Nazi groups in attendance.

"We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence on many sides — on many sides," Trump said in a short statement delivered in New Jersey. "It's been going on for a long time in our country. Not Donald Trump. Not Barack Obama. It's been going on for a long, long time."

Trump tweeted twice more that afternoon, offering condolences to the families of Heyer and the troopers, but did not make any specific mention of the controversial groups.

On Aug. 13, a White House spokesperson who would not be publicly identified released a statement about Trump’s comments Saturday.

"The president said very strongly in his statement yesterday that he condemns all forms of violence, bigotry, and hatred, and of course that includes white supremacists, KKK, neo-Nazi and all extremist groups. He called for national unity and bringing all Americans together," the White House spokesperson said.

(MORE: Trump's remarks about the melee in Charlottesville)
It wasn't until two days later, on Monday afternoon, that Trump made another televised statement, this time, being more explicit.

"Racism is evil. And those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans," he said.

Jonathan Ernst/Reuters, FILE

"To anyone who acted criminally in this weekend's racist violence, you will be held fully accountable. Justice will be delivered," he added.

But Trump added more fuel to the fire on Tuesday, Aug. 15 during a televised press conference in which he lashed out at criticism of his initial statement.

Asked about his immediate response Saturday, Trump quickly went on to blame both sides for the conflict, adding that there were "very fine people" among both the white supremacists and the counter-protesters.

"I think there is blame on both sides. You look at both sides. I think there is blame on both sides," Trump said during his remarks on Aug. 15.

"You had some very bad people in that group. You also had some very fine people on both sides," he added.

The wife of a Massachusetts transit police officer who was injured in the manhunt for the Boston Marathon bombers accused Joe Biden of touching her inappropriately and making a suggestive comment in 2014.

In two Facebook posts, one of which has since been deleted, Kim Donohue alleged that during a remembrance ceremony in Boston, a year after the April 2013 deadly bombing, then-Vice President Biden began "rubbing" her lower back.

"Look at those eyes, where did you get those eyes?" Donohue wrote. "Anyone else as good looking as you in that family ... those eyes are mesmerizing, people must just do whatever you say."

In a separate post, this one made in July 2016, Donohue reiterated her claim that Biden "greeted me by rubbing my back in an inappropriate and uncomfortable way" then "pushed" her husband, Dic Donohue, who was shot in the leg by one of the Tsarnaev brothers, aside.

MY REPLY:

Cali, I never claimed to be an expert in the field of politics. I only first got really interested in politics when Obama started running and, because I didn't think he stood a snowball's chance in hell against Hillary, I didn't pay much attention to him until he started winning primaries and I saw he did have a chance. Intrigued, I read both his books, learned about him and became an admirer, and even more so with his "A More Perfect Union" speech.

So I don't claim to be a whiz at political analysis. I respect and rely on the many sources adduced by Goddard, but I use other sources as well, from many places, Real Clear Politics, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, WSJ, and others.

But there are times when I personally defend some thoughts of my own pretty darn well, and I have sometimes made some of you squirm a bit.

But you yourself seldom challenge me in a non sarcastic, non down putting way that I feel a need to answer seriously.

Now, since you did not call me pedo above, I will respond like this:

You were very astute in questioning "where does it say former prosecutors other than on political liar web site?" and in pointing out that the letter Goddard linked is titled, "DOJ Alumni Open Letter..."etc.

I admiringly grant that you were astute and had every right to ask, 'Where does it say "prosecutors."'

Well, I can only say that Goddard may have lied, but I think not. When I googled his headline, “More than 1,600 former prosecutors call out Bill Bar” I found headlines from several sources, including the reputable Hill, some of which call them “former Justice Dept. prosecutors,” others call them former Justice Department “lawyers,” others “attorneys,” and one source that called them, "More than 1,100 former prosecutors and other DOJ officials.”

So I don’t know whether Goddard got careless, but if he did, he was not alone.

And that’s the best answer I can give you. I don't think Goddard intentionally lied.

At any rate, a VERY large number of former Justice Department "officials" or employees, or whatever they are, sure do think that Barr has behaved toward and with the Justice Department in ways that NO Attorney General EVER should behave, and have said so.

That much is factual.

I welcome further civil discourse anytime you want to pursue it.

6 GOP senators break with Trump on Obamacare suit
NBC News
WASHINGTON — Five Republican senators facing re-election voted for a Democratic-led bill Thursday to block the Trump administration from supporting a lawsuit to overturn Obamacare.

The senators include Susan Collins of Maine, Joni Ernst of Iowa, Cory Gardner of Colorado and Martha McSally of Arizona, who are locked in some of the most competitive Senate races this year.

Alaska Republicans Dan Sullivan, who is also up for re-election, and Lisa Murkowski, who doesn’t face voters until 2022, also voted with Democrats on the measure.

The legislation, offered by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., received 51 votes — short of the 60 needed to advance, due to overwhelming GOP opposition.

Among the Republican senators who voted against it were Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and David Perdue of Georgia, who all face tough re-election bids and are running as staunch Trump allies.

Collins and Murkowski are the only two sitting Republicans who voted against undoing Obamacare in 2017.

Ernst, Gardner and McSally have supported repeal efforts, and are facing a barrage of Democratic attacks for the Republican lack of a plan to cover millions of Americans who would lose coverage and protections if the current law were overturned.

Their votes are an attempt to distance themselves from President Donald Trump’s support of a Texas-led lawsuit seeking to invalidate Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Care Act. Trump and these senators have not offered an alternative plan to provide the law's popular protections for pre-existing conditions if the suit succeeds.

President Trump condemned “all White supremacists” Thursday evening after pointedly refusing to do so at Tuesday’s presidential debate and in the days since, CNN reports.

Said Trump: “I condemn the KKK, I condemn all White supremacists, I condemn the Proud Boys. I don’t know much about the Proud Boys, almost nothing, but I condemn that.”

Why Kimberly Guilfoyle Departed from Fox News

Jane Mayer:
“A daunting gender gap:
according to a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll, he trails Joe Biden by thirty percentage points among female voters.
As part of his campaign, Trump has been doing all he can to showcase female stars in the Republican Party, from nominating Amy Coney Barrett for the Supreme Court to naming Kimberly Guilfoyle, the former Fox News host and legal analyst, his campaign’s finance chair.

“Guilfoyle, however, may not be an ideal emissary.
In November, 2018, a young woman who had been one of Guilfoyle’s assistants at Fox News sent company executives a confidential, forty-two-page draft complaint that accused Guilfoyle of repeated sexual harassment, and demanded monetary relief. The document, which resulted in a multimillion-dollar out-of-court settlement, raises serious questions about Guilfoyle’s fitness as a character witness for Trump, let alone as a top campaign official.”

Trump Leans Into Playing the Victim
New York Times:
“The one constant has been the president portraying himself as a victim at every turn.

“Be it congressional Democrats or Republican foes like the late Senator John McCain,
the news media or the standards enforcers at Twitter,
the impeachment inquiry
or, now, the debate commission,
Mr. Trump has repeatedly blamed others for problems and self-inflicted wounds,
something he hopes will appeal to a shared sense of grievance among his supporters.

“That instinct is now increasingly on display as he faces ominous polling showing him behind in his re-election campaign, a position that aides say is unfathomable for someone who has long staked his personal brand on ‘winning.’

"Mr. Trump, some advisers inside and outside the White House say, has telegraphed to them that he is scared of losing — and in particular, scared of losing to Mr. Biden, whom he does not respect.”

The retired Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster became the latest of President Trump’s former aides on Thursday to declare that the president was aiding Russia’s disinformation campaign by failing to acknowledge how President Vladimir V. Putin was trying to manipulate American voters.

“He is aiding and abetting Putin’s efforts by not being direct about this,” Mr. McMaster, a former national security adviser who is now a fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, said in an interview on MSNBC. “This sustained campaign of disruption, disinformation and denial is aided by any leader who doesn’t acknowledge it.”

Compared with some other former national security aides, Mr. McMaster has been mostly reluctant to criticize the president, with whom he split in early 2018 after a year in the post. He has declined to sign letters written by other Republicans and former military officers rebuking Mr. Trump, and his new book, “Battlegrounds: The Fight to Defend the Free World,” is about his vision of American strategy — avoiding the kind of tell-all that his successor, John R. Bolton, published this summer.

In previous interviews to promote his book, Mr. McMaster has avoided direct censure of Mr. Trump, steering the conversation to what he terms the struggle the United States faces with two “revisionist” powers, Russia and China. The opening of his book acknowledges that an insider account “might be lucrative” but would not be “useful or satisfactory for most readers.”

But in speaking with Hallie Jackson of MSNBC on Thursday, he went further than he has at any point in the past in criticizing Mr. Trump for failing to call out Russian action — even as his administration has indicted intelligence officers involved in the 2016 breach of the Democratic National Committee, and imposed sanctions on Russian hackers.

Mr. Trump has often undercut those efforts by calling into question whether Russia was involved in the 2016 hacking, and by criticizing his own appointees, most recently Christopher A. Wray, the director of the F.B.I., for focusing on Russia rather than China and Iran.

“Russia is the primary problem in this area,” Mr. McMaster said flatly.

He continued, “This is why I think the president has to be much stronger in condemning this effort to really reduce our confidence in who we are as Americans.”

He argued that parts of the Trump administration were pushing back harder against Russia than ever before, and alluded to the action taken by United States Cyber Command in the 2018 midterm elections, when it shut down the Internet Research Agency, the propaganda operation in St. Petersburg, Russia, for several days.

Mr. McMaster did not offer an explanation of why Mr. Trump appeared to be so deferential to Mr. Putin. But he did say that the president “conflates” three separate issues: whether Russia interfered in the election four years ago, whether that meddling was on Mr. Trump’s behalf, as the intelligence agencies concluded, and whether those efforts affected the outcome.

On the first question, he said, “Heck yes, of course they did,” siding with the unanimous conclusion of the intelligence agencies. As national security adviser, Mr. McMaster shared that view, including during a speech at the Munich Security Conference, leading Mr. Trump to chide him on Twitter. His aide, the president noted, “forgot to say that the results of the 2016 election were not impacted or changed by the Russians.” It was one of the issues that led Mr. Trump to begin to freeze him out, and to later replace him.

On the second question, Mr. McMaster said “you can debate” whether the Russians favored Mr. Trump in 2016. Like others, he said, the Russians expected Hillary Clinton to win, and “they had a whole disinformation campaign ready to go to say that the election was rigged.” Many believe that is what is happening now: that the Russians believe Joseph R. Biden Jr., the Democratic presidential nominee, will win, and that in an effort to diminish Mr. Biden’s influence if he takes office, they are amplifying Mr. Trump’s allegations that the election will be fraudulent.

And on the third question, whether the Russians influenced voters in 2016, “We’ll never know that,” Mr. McMaster said.
