Imagine if Eric Trump or Don Jr were being paid $50K / month to sit on a foreign board....

And the media uncovered emails showing that their involvement with those companies was literally quid pro quo to gain their father's influence? Oh and imagine Trump Sr had openly denied being any part of it.

Well first of all, it would be big news because all involved with be committing crimes. It's literally illegal for an elected official to use their political influence to garner jobs for family members or friends. So the question is... why isn't this a big story (or why will it not be a big story).

Right now, the only major news network even reporting the story (at all) is Fox News.

ABC news has a front page story about Breonna Taylor (a story from March) and several about the confirmation hearings. A search for Hunter Biden shows up with literally nothing other than an old interview and stories about Joe Biden. NBC is offering us stories about the white woman who called 911 on a black birdwatcher, but nothing on Hunter Biden. Again a search leads you nowhere.

CBS, CNN, MSNBC, are ignoring it as well. Facebook and Twitter are literally blocking the story from being posted? Is this really what it takes to get a Democrat elected today?

_____

Meanwhile both Candidates appear well enough to attend separate live Town Halls today. But there was no way that they could actually have held a live debate? Go figure...

President Trump and his campaign on Wednesday revived allegations of wrongdoing against Democratic nominee Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden, citing a New York Post story that has drawn skepticism over its sourcing and findings.

The Post story, published on Wednesday morning, alleges that Hunter Biden used his influence to connect a Ukrainian businessman, and fellow board member at the gas company Burisma, with his father when he was vice president.

It's a no-brainer example of illegal activity by the former Vice-President and his son. The only valid excuse provided (so far) for certain people ignoring it is that they are still "fact checking" to verify the claim and emails.

Surge In Early Voting Driven Mainly by Democrats
5:31 pm The Washington Post:
“With less than three weeks to go before Nov. 3, more than 14 million Americans have already voted in the fall election, reflecting an extraordinary level of participation despite barriers erected by the coronavirus pandemic — and setting a trajectory that could result in the majority of voters casting ballots before Election Day for the first time in U.S. history.

“The picture is so stark that election officials around the country are reporting record early turnout, much of it in person, meaning that more results could be available on election night than previously thought.

“So far, much of the early voting appears to be driven by heightened enthusiasm among Democrats. Of the roughly 3.5 million voters who have cast ballots in six states that provide partisan breakdowns, registered Democrats outnumber Republicans by roughly 2 to 1, according to a Washington Post analysis of data in Florida, Iowa, Maine, Kentucky, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.”

Senate committee investigating alleged Hunter Biden drive, smoking-gun email

By Steven Nelson

October 14, 2020 | 10:46am | Updated

WASHINGTON — A Senate committee is investigating a bombshell cache of documents about Hunter Biden’s foreign dealings that was acquired by a Delaware computer repairman and exposed Wednesday by The Post.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee confirmed it is working with the repairman, whose identity was confirmed by The Post, to verify documents from the hard drive.

“There are so many red flags about the Biden family trying to cash in on the Vice President’s position that it can be hard to keep them straight,” Committee Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) told The Post.

“Today’s report raises more questions that must be resolved,” Johnson said.

“What we know for a fact is that Hunter Biden took millions of dollars from foreign nationals including, the wife of the former Mayor of Moscow, people tied to the Chinese Communist Party and other unsavory characters. Joe Biden needs to finally come clean and tell the truth to the American people about all of these issues, and he needs to do it now.”

An email from the cache indicates Joe Biden, the Democratic presidential candidate, met with Vadym Pozharskyi, an adviser to the board of Ukrainian energy company Burisma, while it employed his son. At the time, Biden led the Obama administration’s Ukraine policy.

Biden said last year, “I have never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings,” including his reported $83,000 monthly pay on Burisma’s board.

House Democrats impeached President Trump in December for asking Ukraine to investigate Hunter Biden’s employment.

The repairman contacted Johnson’s committee in late September — one day after it released a report on Joe Biden’s apparent conflicts of interest in his son’s international business dealings, including a claim he received $3.5 million from the wife of Moscow’s former mayor.

If this wasn't Russian propaganda, the MSM would be all over it.

Obama conference call leaked to Burisma: Biden emails

The Obama administration let a Democratic p.r. company that worked for Ukrainian energy firm Burisma take part in a conference call about an upcoming visit to Ukraine by then-Vice President Joe Biden, emails obtained by The Post show.

An associate at Blue Star Strategies then emailed a memo with minutes of the conference call hosted by the White House to a top Burisma executive, Vadym Pozharskyi, as well as to Joe Biden’s son Hunter and Hunter’s business partner, Devon Archer, both of whom sat on Burisma’s board.

The trip, in December 2015, turned out to be the one during which Biden later bragged about forcing Ukrainian officials to fire a state prosecutor who was investigating Burisma by threatening to withhold a $1 billion US loan guarantee.

The memo, sent shortly after the Dec. 2, 2015, call, also “outlined the trip’s agenda and addressed several questions regarding US policy toward Ukraine.”

Blue Star has said it began working for Burisma and contacting Ukrainian officials on its behalf in November 2015, and an email shows that on Nov. 18, 2015, Pozharskyi sent the Blue Star contract to Hunter Biden, Archer and Eric Schwerin, president of the Rosemont Seneca Partners investment firm.

Hunter Biden and Archer were among RSP’s founders, along with former Secretary of State John Kerry’s stepson, Christopher Heinz, Reuters has reported.

“Could you kindly have BS countersign it and forward back to me?” Pozharskyi wrote. “I am kindly asking you to schedule either a conf call or advise us as to the foreseen action plan for November-December 2015, and if anything has been already done by BS, could kindly you ask them to share with us this information?

A Blue Star spokesman declined to comment.

Scott, you lied about the WHO because you swallowed everything he fed you.

At campaign rallies and in tweets, President Donald Trump falsely said the World Health Organization changed its position and “admitted that Donald Trump was right” about lockdowns. But the agency has said no such thing.

The president first made the inaccurate claim in a tweet just before the start of an Oct. 12 rally in Sanford, Florida.

At the rally, Trump echoed that sentiment after stating that former Vice President Joe Biden would institute a lockdown if elected president.

Trump, Oct. 12: Biden would terminate our recovery, delay the vaccine, prolong the pandemic, and annihilate Florida’s economy with the draconian unscientific lockdown. That’s what he wants to do, lock it down. Lock it down, everybody. …

But the World Health Organization, did you see what happened? They just came out a little while ago and they admitted that Donald Trump was right. The lockdowns are doing tremendous damage to these Democrat-run states where they’re locked out, sealed up, suicide rates, drug rates, alcoholism, death by so many different forms.

We’ve previously explained that Biden said in an Aug. 21 interview with ABC News that he would shut down the country if that’s what scientists advised. He has since emphasized that he doesn’t think a lockdown would be necessary.

A day after the Florida rally, Trump repeated the claim in a tweet attacking National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci — who has pushed back against a Trump television ad that Fauci said took his words “out of context.”

“WHO no longer likes Lockdowns – just came out against. Trump was right,” he wrote. “We saved 2,000,000 USA lives!!!”

In another rally that night in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the president again said that the WHO “said Trump was right” and boasted about having saved 2 million lives.

The Trump campaign told us that the president was referencing statements recently made by WHO officials and directed us to two news articles highlighting comments by Dr. Mike Ryan, the executive director of the WHO’s health emergencies programme, and David Nabarro, one of the WHO’s special envoys on COVID-19.

In one of the articles cited by the campaign, Ryan was quoted as saying this during an Oct. 9 press briefing: “What we want to try and avoid — and sometimes it’s unavoidable, we accept that, but what we want to try and avoid are these massive lockdowns that are so punishing to communities, to societies and everything else.”

Nabarro’s remarks came from an Oct. 8 interview with the British magazine The Spectator. While Nabarro spoke at length, news outlets focused on his plea to world leaders to “stop using lockdown as your primary control method.”

But Trump’s description of their remarks is inaccurate and incomplete. Neither man mentioned Trump or the U.S., and the WHO told us that its position on lockdowns has not changed — it has never recommended them as the primary strategy to control the virus, but recognizes that in some cases they may be needed.

Trump also incorrectly suggested that “Democrat-run states” are currently in lockdown, when no state is shut down the way many were in the spring.

Confusingly, Trump simultaneously claimed that 2 million American lives were saved — a dubious estimate — even though the stay-at-home orders most states issued this spring likely limited the number of COVID-19 deaths.

WHO’s Position on Lockdowns

While Trump’s takeaway from Ryan and Nabarro’s comments was that the WHO was reversing itself, that’s an inaccurate interpretation.

“WHO has never advocated for national lockdowns as a primary means for controlling the virus. Dr Nabarro was repeating our advice to governments to ‘do it all,’” the agency’s press office told us in an email.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

“Governments, employers, communities should apply a package of proven public health measures that we know are effective for preventing transmission, including hand and respiratory hygiene, physical distancing, mask wearing, staying home if you’re sick, etc. as well as having robust systems for testing, isolating, tracing and quarantining, etc.,” the statement continued. “Measures to control COVID-19 depend on local risk assessments. Movement restrictions may be among a range of measures that governments can consider in certain geographical areas.”

“If clusters and outbreaks do appear, they should be slowed and then suppressed promptly and that is why localised and targeted movement restrictions, implemented jointly by local actors and national authorities, are needed from time to time,” the press office added.

Nabarro’s statements in the interview are entirely consistent with that assessment. He explained that the WHO backed a “middle way” strategy involving a robust testing, contact tracing and isolation system, along with getting the public on board with physical distancing, wearing masks and other similar measures.

“If we can combine those various steps, what we call ‘doing it all,’ in our organization’s speak, then we can get on top of it,” he said, noting that that is exactly what many East Asian countries have done, along with Germany and parts of Canada.

“We think lockdowns only serve one purpose, and that is to give you a bit of breathing space to stop everything,” Nabarro said. “The virus stops moving, and while you’ve got that breathing space, you should really be building up your testing, building up your contact tracing, building up your local organization.”

Later, he emphasized that point again, saying, “We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as a primary means of control of this virus. The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganize, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted.”

In an Oct. 13 Twitter thread, the agency also iterated its position, noting that lockdowns were not ideal, but might be necessary.

“We understand that sometimes such measures – although not sustainable – are needed to swiftly suppress the virus and avoid health systems being overwhelmed,” the WHO said. “Lockdowns are not sustainable solutions because of their significant economic, social & broader health impacts. However, during the #COVID19 pandemic there’ve been times when restrictions were necessary and there may be other times in the future.”

The spread of the coronavirus in the United States in recent weeks has been worse than it seems, not because of how it has been spreading but where.

The virus has been pummeling some of the least populous states in the country, but the relatively low numbers can be deceptive. The surges in rural areas have been just as severe as the spikes in densely populated cities in the Sun Belt over the summer.

North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana, for example, have announced the country’s highest number of cases on a per-capita basis. Already, the North Dakota and South Dakota numbers exceed the per capita figures seen at the peak of summer surges in the Sun Belt.

Other states with large rural areas — including Wyoming, Idaho, West Virginia, Nebraska, Iowa, Utah, Alaska and Oklahoma — have recently recorded more cases in a seven-day stretch than in any other week of the pandemic.

“We, as North Dakotans, find ourselves in the middle of a regional Covid storm,” Gov. Doug Burgum said Wednesday.

But population can skew perspective.

Wessington Springs, S.D., or Shelby, Mont., are unlikely to produce the same alarming imagery amid a pandemic as New York City or Houston, where mobile morgues and packed E.R. hallways became icons of suffering.

In the last seven days, Florida had the highest number of virus-related deaths in the nation, 764. But the state has more than 21 million residents.

North Dakota had only 78 deaths — but it has a population of 762,000.

President Donald Trump offered a "no comment" on whether he plans to keep Attorney General William Barr should he win a second term.

In an exclusive interview with Newsmax TV that aired Wednesday night on "Greg Kelly Reports," Trump said it is "too early" to determine whether he would ask Barr to come back, or if he would tap someone else for the job.

Earlier Wednesday, it was reported an investigation into the Obama administration found no wrongdoing in "unmasking" the names of Trump campaign members caught up in surveillance as part of the Russia probe.

"I have no comment. Can't comment on that. It's too early," Trump said. "I'm not happy with all of the evidence I have, I can tell you that. I'm not happy."

The Washington Post reported U.S. Attorney John Bash did not find evidence of wrongdoing with regard to the unmasking. Trump called that conclusion "a disgrace."

"Personally, I think it's ridiculous. It's ridiculous. It's a disgrace," Trump told Kelly. "I think it's really a horrible thing that they're allowed to get away — when they say no indictments, they actually said no indictments before the election.

"I had to go through elections with all those clouds over my head. But they don't because the Republicans are so nice. Personally, I think it's too bad. I think it's too bad, they're guilty as hell."

The Bash investigation was a branch of the larger probe being led by U.S. Attorney for Connecticut John Durham, who is examining the origins of the Russia investigation that began in the Obama administration.

WASHINGTON — Less than three weeks before Election Day, Joe Biden maintains a double-digit national lead over President Donald Trump, with 6 in 10 voters saying that the country is on the wrong track and that it is worse off than it was four years ago.

What's more, a majority of voters say they have major concerns that Trump will divide the country rather than unite it — the largest concern for either presidential candidate.

Those are the results of a new national NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll — conducted after Trump returned to the White House from his hospitalization for the coronavirus — which finds Biden ahead of Trump by 11 points among registered voters, 53 percent to 42 percent.

That's down from Biden's 14-point lead in the NBC News/WSJ poll conducted immediately after the first presidential debate on Sept. 29, although the movement is within the poll's margin of error.

"The president may have recovered from Covid-19, but there is no experimental cocktail that can cure his standing with voters," said Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates, who conducted the survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff and his colleagues at Public Opinion Strategies.

Download the NBC News app for breaking news and alerts

But the poll also shows how the race could tighten in the final days, especially as Trump returns to the campaign trail.

The economy remains voters' top issue, and Republican enjoy a double-digit advantage on it.

While more think the nation is worse off than it was four years ago, half of voters — 50 percent — say they're personally better off than they were before Trump took office.

And the president's job approval rating (44 percent) remains higher than his ballot number (42 percent), which suggests some room for growth.

There's also the memory of what happened in 2016: The October NBC News/WSJ poll from four years ago — after the release of the damaging "Access Hollywood" video of Trump but before FBI Director James Comey intervened in the race's final days — showed Hillary Clinton with an identical 11-point lead over Trump.

(The final NBC News/WSJ poll of 2016 had Clinton's national lead down to 5 points; she won the popular vote by more than 2 percentage points.)

But what's different from four years ago is just how stable Biden's national lead has been over the past year, including among key voting subgroups like women, voters of color, seniors and independents.

"These are the trends we've been watching for 10 months," said McInturff, the Republican pollster.

In the current poll, Biden's biggest advantages are among Black voters (he gets 91 percent to Trump's 4 percent), Latinos (62 percent to 26 percent), women (60 percent to 34 percent), voters ages 18 to 34 (57 percent to 34 percent), whites with college degrees (57 percent to 38 percent), seniors (54 percent to 44 percent) and independents (46 percent to 39 percent).

Trump holds the edge among men (50 percent to 45 percent), whites (50 percent to 46 percent) and whites without college degrees (59 percent to 38 percent).

All of those numbers are consistent with NBC News/WSJ polling since the beginning of the year.

The fundamentals are breaking against Trump

Another difference from four years ago is that Trump is now the incumbent — instead of the challenger — in a volatile political environment.

Sixty-two percent of voters in the poll say the country is on the wrong track, compared to 29 percent who say it's headed in the right direction.

That's an improvement since July, when only 19 percent of voters said the country was headed in the right direction, but it's lower than the more than 30 percent who were saying that before the coronavirus pandemic hit the United States.

What's more, 58 percent of voters believe the country is worse off than it was four years ago, compared to 38 percent who say it's better off.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The president's job rating in the poll stands at 44 percent approval and 54 percent disapproval among registered voters (it was 43 percent approval, 55 percent disapproval earlier this month).

And just 41 percent approve of his handling of the coronavirus (it was 40 percent in the last NBC News/WSJ poll).

False: Biden pushed out a Ukrainian prosecutor investigating his son

Trump has falsely claimed that Biden in 2015 pressured the Ukrainian government to fire Viktor Shokin, the top Ukrainian prosecutor, because he was investigating Ukraine’s largest private gas company, Burisma, which had added Biden’s son, Hunter, to its board in 2014.

AD

There are two big problems with this claim: One, Shokin was not investigating Burisma or Hunter Biden, and two, Shokin’s ouster was considered a diplomatic victory.

Biden was among the many Western officials who pressed for the removal of Shokin because he actually was not investigating the corruption endemic to the country. Indeed, he was not investigating Burisma at the time. In September 2015, then-U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt publicly criticized Shokin’s office for thwarting a British money-laundering probe into Burisma’s owner, Mykola Zlochevsky.

“Shokin was not investigating. He didn’t want to investigate Burisma,” Daria Kaleniuk, of the Ukrainian Anti-Corruption Action Center, told The Washington Post in July. “And Shokin was fired not because he wanted to do that investigation, but quite to the contrary, because he failed that investigation.”

AD

In a 2018 appearance at the Council on Foreign Relations, Biden bragged about his role in Shokin’s removal, saying he had withheld $1 billion in loan guarantees as leverage to force action. But Biden was carrying out a policy developed at the State Department and coordinated with the European Union and the International Monetary Fund.

The Ukrainian prosecutor was regarded as a failure, and “Joe Biden’s efforts to oust Shokin were universally praised,” said Anders Aslund, a Swedish economist heavily involved in Eastern European market reforms. Getting rid of Shokin was considered the linchpin of reform efforts, but U.S. officials had a list of changes the government needed to make before it could obtain another loan guarantee.

In December 2015, Biden traveled to Kiev and decried the “cancer of corruption” in the country in a speech to the parliament. “The Office of the General Prosecutor desperately needs reform,” he noted. Shokin was removed from office three months later, and Biden announced April 15 that the loan guarantee would go forward; the agreement between the United States and Ukraine was signed June 3.

AD

One can certainly raise questions about Hunter Biden’s judgment in joining Burisma’s board at a time his father had a high-profile role in working with Ukraine’s government. But by continuing to claim that Biden “did” something for his son, Trump persists in spreading a false narrative about a diplomatic maneuver hailed at the time as a step toward reducing corruption in Ukraine.

False: Hunter Biden made a killing on a China deal

At various times Trump has claimed Hunter Biden “made millions of dollars from China” or “walks out of China with $1.5 billion in a fund” after hitching a ride with his father on Air Force Two. But there is no evidence to support those statements.

In December 2013, Hunter Biden and one of his daughters flew from Japan to China with Joe Biden on Air Force Two as the vice president embarked on a diplomatic mission.

Twelve days after he flew to Beijing, Hunter Biden joined an advisory board of a fund called BHR Partners, which had announced it would try to raise $1.5 billion. The New Yorker magazine reported that during the trip Hunter Biden arranged for his father to shake hands with Jonathan Li, who ran a Chinese private-equity fund and was one of the partners who had formed BHR.

But while Joe Biden was vice president, Hunter Biden was only on the board of the advisory firm that did not directly invest, but instead advised those who did. George Mesires, a lawyer for Hunter Biden, said he only took an equity stake in 2017, after Joe Biden was no longer vice president.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

False: Biden lied about talking to his son

After the reports on Hunter Biden’s business deals emerged, Joe Biden told reporters: “I have never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings.”

AD

Trump claimed that this was a lie because “he’s already said he spoke to his son.” But Biden had not. Instead, Trump appeared to be referring to a line in the New Yorker profile: “As Hunter recalled, his father discussed Burisma with him just once: ‘Dad said, “I hope you know what you are doing,” and I said, “I do.” ’”

That’s not much of a discussion. In any case, Biden never said he spoke to his son, as Trump claimed he did.

False: Democratic senators also threatened Ukraine’s aid

Trump claimed that three Democratic senators — Patrick J. Leahy (Vt.), Richard J. Durbin (Ill.) and Robert Menendez (N.J.) — “implied that their support for U.S. assistance to Ukraine was at stake and that if they didn’t do the right thing they wouldn’t get any assistance.” He later referred to “senators that threatened him with votes and no money coming into Ukraine if they do things.”

AD

Trump suggested this was the “real deal,” unlike allegations that he held up military aid to force the Ukrainian government to investigate the Bidens.

Trump is referring to a letter written in 2018, and it does not say what he claims.

The letter, written to the special prosecutor at the time, Yuriy Lutsenko, expressed concern about a New York Times report that Ukraine had stopped cooperating with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election to avoid upsetting Trump. The letter does not threaten a loss of aid, though it notes that the Times article said that the freezing of cooperation was motivated by a worry that Trump would cut off aid. (The article was titled: “Ukraine, Seeking U.S. Missiles, Halted Cooperation with Mueller Investigation.”)

AD

The letter noted the signers have supported efforts to build Ukraine’s democracy and expressed “disappointment” that some lawmakers in Kiev were trying “to avoid the ire of President Trump.” The senators then ask a series of questions, seeking to clarify whether the Times report was correct and whether the Trump administration had encouraged the government not to cooperate with Mueller.

Lutsenko never responded. Since the letter was sent, the three senators have voted for nearly $870 million in additional aid to Ukraine, with Leahy and Durbin (members of the Senate Appropriations Committee) voting in committee on Sept. 26 for an additional $448 million in fiscal 2020, an increase over 2018 and 2019.

A coalition of more than 60 state prosecutors and attorneys general from across the country declared Wednesday that they would not enforce laws that criminalize abortion, even if the Supreme Court overturned the 1973 decision that legalized it nationwide.

The declalion comes amid the Supreme Court confirmation hearings for Judge Amy Coney Barrett, a conservative who many believe would vote to reverse Roe v. Wade if elevated to the high court. Barrett has declined to say how she would vote if a challenge to Roe came before the court.

The prosecutors’ statement invokes the power of prosecutorial discretion, which some prosecutors have used to reduce or eliminate prosecution of marijuana charges and other misdemeanors to reduce the disproportionate harm they can cause to nonviolent offenders.

At the very least they are violating their oath of office. At the very most it'a a gross abuse of power.

These are the same officials who refuse to prosecute rioters.

Fortunately for them, it's pretty much an empty gesture since unlimited abortion is legal in those states even if Roe is overturned.

In other states they wouldn't last past the next election.

The coronavirus pandemic has accelerated a trend toward more early voting. In an effort to make polling places less crowded on Election Day, many states have encouraged absentee voting, opened more in-person early-voting sites and, in a few cases, mailed ballots to all registered voters.

In state after state, voters have waited in line for hours — particularly on the first day in-person early voting became available. When most of Georgia opened for in-person voting on Columbus Day, voters in the Atlanta suburbs waited four, five, even seven hours to vote. The next day in Texas, turnout in a few counties was equivalent to more than 10 percent of those counties’ entire vote in the 2016 election.

If this continues, the vote turnout will be fantastic.

Additionally, those who have voted include disproportionate numbers of Black voters and women, according to state data — groups that favor former vice president Joe Biden over President Trump in recent polls.

As Trump Grows More Heated, Fears Rise of Violence

New York Times:
“With polls showing the president behind Mr. Biden nationally and in key states, Mr. Trump has descended into rants about perceived enemies, both inside and outside his administration, triggering in his staunchest supporters such fears for the outcome — possibly a ‘stolen’ election, maybe a coup by the far left — that he is emboldening them to disrupt the voting process.”

Trump Tramples Government Boundries
7:07 am
“The farther behind Donald Trump has fallen in the competition for campaign dollars, the more he’s milked government resources to make up the difference,” Politico reports.

“Millions of boxes of food doled out to needy families — with letters signed by the president taking credit stuffed inside. An $8 billion program for drug-discount cards to seniors featuring Trump branding — intended to arrive before the Nov. 3 election. A $300 million advertising blitz to ‘defeat despair’ over the coronavirus pandemic — the biggest threat to Trump’s reelection.

“His heavy reliance on federal resources and his own executive powers to win reelection come as Trump has fallen more than $100 million behind Joe Biden in TV ad spending, and slipped to a double-digit deficit in national polls.”

Tabloid Claims to Have More Hunter Biden Emails

The New York Post claims to have emails from Hunter Biden showing how he pursued lucrative deals involving China’s largest private energy company — including one that he said would be “interesting for me and my family.”

The email is supposedly contained in a “trove of data that the owner of a computer repair shop in Delaware said was recovered from a MacBook Pro laptop that was dropped off in April 2019 and never retrieved.”

Bidenworld Warns Against Cabinet Jockeying
Politico:
“Joe Biden’s transition team has a message for anyone publicly jockeying for a job in a potential Biden administration: Knock it off. Members of the transition team have been fuming at the recent flood of stories listing people in contention for the top spots should Biden win the presidential race next month, according to Democratic officials who have spoken to them. They warn that the efforts could backfire, knocking those participating out of contention for high-profile posts.”

Said a Democratic strategist: “There is speculation with every transition, but public campaigning for administration jobs during an election of this magnitude is tone-deaf. The only campaigning folks should be doing is for Biden, Harris, the Senate and candidates down the ballot who can help turn things around. Everything else is counterproductive.”

GOP Resistance on Relief Bill Sets Up a Nuclear Winter
8:21 am
Jonathan Bernstein: “I hate to get too speculative about 2021, but in this case it’s necessary. Because the flaw in Republican reasoning, if this is what they intend, is that the most likely justification for Senate Democrats to use the ‘nuclear option’ and eliminate the legislative filibuster would be the scenario that Republicans seem to be setting up: a deep recession, only minimal stimulus since March 2020 and incoming Democratic majorities unable to provide further relief because of Republican rejectionism. Faced with the choice of procedural complaints if they act, or the possibility of economic (and perhaps political) disaster if they don’t, Democrats might have the votes to go nuclear even if they have the slimmest of majorities.

“In other words, too much rejectionism might backfire badly. There’s a lengthy agenda of Democratic policy preferences that might have the votes in a simple-majority Senate but that don’t have the urgency, especially among moderates, to push the party to go nuclear. After eliminating the filibuster, many of those items might well pass. Meanwhile, without the need to attract Republicans, a partisan stimulus might be very large, and very effective. Especially if it coincided with large-scale distribution of a vaccine.”

One of the strangest details of the exclusive New York Post story involving the recovered data from a computer linked to Hunter Biden is the story of the laptop itself and what is alleged about it. You can read about the evidence alleging that Hunter Biden was trading influence with foreign actors in Matt Margolis's piece here. But what also interested me was the part of the NYP investigation where they claim there's a sex tape and pornographic photos starring Hunter on the laptop -- and the FBI knew about it in December...

Let's forget for a moment that there's reportedly a video of Hunter Biden smoking crack and romping with hookers on the laptop. That's par for the course, isn't it?

What about the part where the FBI had possession of this information back in December? Why didn't the FBI come forward with this evidence about Hunter Biden's emails, which appear to show collusion and influence-trading? Isn't that something they should have told the president or members of Congress? Was the FBI deliberately covering it up? If the good citizen who came forward and alerted the FBI of the contents of the laptop had not made a copy of the information, it would still be under FBI lock and key. But the computer repairman did make a copy and sent it to Rudy Giuliani. If true, it's a stunning indictment of the FBI that an American citizen -- who alerted them to alleged multiple crimes involving a guy with the last name Biden -- knew not to trust them and made other arrangements should they try to cover it up (which, apparently, they did).

"The shop owner claims he told the federal government about it, and they seized the laptop and hard drive in December 2019. But he claims he copied the hard drive first and provided it to Rudy Giuliani’s lawyer, Robert Costello.

Months later, somehow, former Trump adviser Steve Bannon (who was indicted on fraud charges in August) learned of the hard drive and told the Post. Finally, Giuliani provided the hard drive to the New York Post last Sunday, after having apparently kept it under wraps for about 10 months.

Tucker Carlson: The Joe Biden story Twitter and Facebook don't want you to read

Big Tech prevents the public from reading the news and makes no apology for it.

Most of us never imagined it could happen in this country, and yet Wednesday, it did happen.

A major American newspaper published a story, apparently an entirely accurate story, about a presidential candidate. The tech monopolies that control American media feared this story might hurt that candidate, whom they favor. So three weeks before a national election, they shut the whole thing down.

They prevented the public from reading the news. They didn't apologize for doing this. They didn't bother to make up reasonable-sounding justifications for it. They just did it, exactly as the Chinese government does. These are monopolies. They have all the power, you have none. They don't have to care about what you think and they don't.

This was mass censorship on a scale that America has never experienced in 245 years, and it's a threat to all of us.
Democracies only function when there is a free exchange of information between citizens. We no longer have that.

It's so weird that the big social media platforms simultaneously decided to throw away their "platform, not a publisher" protection to suppress a flimsy nothingburger story that should be like the buzzing of flies to a candidate with an insurmountable lead in the polls.

It almost makes you wonder if maybe that candidate knew even worse revelations were coming, so he got in touch with his very dear friends at the social media giants and told them to crush the early releases at all costs, to shut the whole chain of stories down.

DNC Media long ago mastered the art of the soft embargo. They simply refuse to amplify stories that don't fit their precious political narratives, while the stories that DO fit get wall-to-wall coverage. They don't confront Democrats about inconvenient stories.

We know all the tricks by heart: "Republicans pounce" framing, changing the subject, whataboutism, attacking the sources of inconvenient stories, downplaying them as "old news" or "debunked" when they really aren't.

For Big Tech to instantly leap directly to Chinese Communist-style hard embargoes - clumsy, obvious, and coordinated suppression of information, so ham-fisted that it clearly risks bringing government regulators down on their heads - over a trifling story seems illogical.

All the soft embargo tools were readily available. They could have said it was just "old news," everybody knows Hunter Biden is a train wreck. They could have used "Republicans pounce" to wave the whole thing off as a partisan smear. No way they'd ask Joe Biden for comment.

But instead they instantly leaped to an unprecedented level of China-style hard oppression that was all but guaranteed to make the story a much bigger deal, and their actions could well have disastrous repercussions for the Big Tech companies. And this fallout was predictable.

It doesn't take a genius to see that the New York Post isn't some internet rando with 100 followers who can be squashed without blowback, or to see that people become 1,000 times more interested in a story they are arrogantly ordered not to read.

And it's predictable that this hard embargo tactic would raise deafening cries of election interference, because it obviously IS. No bubble is thick enough to keep the people who did this from seeing what the response would be, but they did it anyway, without hesitation. /end

The arrest of more than a dozen right-wing extremists who are accused of targeting the governors of Michigan and Virginia is only the latest example of threats of violence, in some cases egged on by President Trump, that loom over the final weeks of a historically divisive race.

In rural Iowa, Laura Hubka, the Democratic chair of Howard County, recently took out a concealed-carry gun permit after signs for Democratic candidates in her region were vandalized with bullet holes and she was personally threatened, she said.

In central Wisconsin, Tom Stepanek’s wife sat him down last month at the kitchen table and warned him that the president might not accept a peaceful transfer of power if he lost in November. “Are you sure you want to be doing this?” she asked her husband, who is the chair of the Waushara County Democrats and had also been threatened. “You’re going to be a target here,” she told him.

In Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Burdick, a Trump supporter who owns a gun store with her husband in red-hued Mercer County, said, “Sales have been crazy.”

“People are afraid,” she said. “They’re afraid of what’s going to happen” after the election if Joseph R. Biden Jr., the Democratic nominee, wins.

With polls showing the president behind Mr. Biden nationally and in key states, Mr. Trump has descended into rants about perceived enemies, both inside and outside his administration, triggering in his staunchest supporters such fears for the outcome — possibly a “stolen” election, maybe a coup by the far left — that he is emboldening them to disrupt the voting process, according to national security experts and law enforcement officials.

National security experts said that American elections were usually nonevents for law enforcement, and that transitions from one president to the next were typically a peaceful pageant of democracy.

“But not this year,” said Chuck Wexler, the executive director of the Police Executive Research Forum, who said that multiple police chiefs were extending patrol shifts in the weeks before Election Day. “This year is unlike any year.”

In a report released this month describing threats to the United States, analysts at the Department of Homeland Security warned of potential plots that mirror the schemes in Michigan and Virginia thwarted by the F.B.I.

The International Crisis Group, whose mission is to sound an alarm ahead of deadly conflicts in hot spots around the globe, last month turned its attention for the first time to possible election-related violence in the United States.

Warning that far-right militias could take matters into their own hands in key states if ballots are contested, Robert Malley, the president of the group, said, “We would never predict civil war, but isolated incidents of violence could be quite serious.”

The months of anti-police protests this summer sometimes turned to looting and arson, and Mr. Malley said there were some armed extremists on the left. But he emphasized that the real concern came from the right, where violent messaging had already produced deadly results, including the shooting death of two people during protests in Kenosha, Wis. Mr. Malley said that in assessing the potential for further violence, “the balance very clearly tilts toward the responsibility of President Trump.”

The president has called on supporters to “go into the polls and watch very carefully,” a phrase that some security experts interpret as a call to take up arms and patrol polling stations. During the first presidential debate, he alerted the Proud Boys, a group associated with white supremacy, to “stand by.”

“It’s so concerning the president just doesn’t seem to have any kind of guard rails between what he thinks at the spur of the moment and what he says or writes,” said Janet Napolitano, the former secretary of homeland security. “We’ve seen it in the rise of these right-wing militia groups and it’s almost as if implicitly he’s giving them permission to take whatever action they want up to and including kidnapping a sitting governor.”

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, who was a reported kidnapping target of the suspects arrested by the F.B.I. last week, said over the weekend that extremists found “comfort and support” in Mr. Trump’s language, and in the president’s failure to condemn them.

Two of the 13 men arrested had brandished military-style rifles in the gallery of the Michigan State Capitol in April to protest the governor’s lockdown to fight the spread of the coronavirus. The men had talked of starting a civil war, according to the authorities, who linked them to the Wolverine Watchmen, a far-right militia.

The F.B.I. revealed this week that the men also talked of “taking” Gov. Ralph Northam of Virginia. Both governors are Democrats.

Among some Republicans, there are fears that any election-related violence would be driven by far-left groups, such as the loosely organized antifa movement.

Attorney General William P. Barr has consistently identified left-wing extremists as the greater threat to domestic peace, even though federal prosecutors in scores of rioting cases stemming from anti-police protests have focused on the far-right Boogaloo movement, which seeks a second civil war.

On YouTube, a far-right organizer named Mike Dunn has called for a “Boogaloo unity rally” on Saturday at the Michigan State Capitol, in Lansing, saying that he was barred from Facebook after posting there.

Why Democrats Remain Nervous About Biden’s Chances
9:08 am
“In private, some top Democrats remain nervous about the presidential race, despite Joe Biden’s lead in swing state after swing state — and strength in states that had looked out of reach (including Georgia, Ohio and Iowa),” Axios reports.

Tom Edsall points to a massive surge in registration for working-class whites and quotes a Democratic strategist who reported that white, non-college, over-30 registrations in battleground states had recently “increased by 10 points compared to September 2016, and the Democratic margin dropped 10 points to just six points.”

Rupert Murdoch Predicts Biden Landslide
9:20 am
“President Trump’s influential supporter Rupert Murdoch is telling close associates he believes Joe Biden will win the election in a landslide,” the Daily Beast reports.

“The Australian-born billionaire is disgusted by Trump’s handling of COVID-19, remarking that the president is his own worst enemy, that he is not listening to advice about how best to handle the pandemic, and that he’s creating a never-ending crisis for his administration.”

When asked for comment, Murdoch said: “No comment except I’ve never called Trump an idiot.”

Hunter Biden Story Trips Social Media Circuit Breakers
9:12 am
“In 2016, hacked emails and foreign meddling shaped the political fight, and social media took much of the blame. Afterwards, the platforms designed circuit breakers to avoid a repeat in 2020,” Axios reports.

“Those breakers tripped Wednesday at both Facebook and Twitter to stop the spread of a New York Post story that reported allegations about Joe Biden’s son Hunter, based on what the paper said were emails provided to it Sunday by Rudy Giuliani.

“The action by the platforms drew a swift backlash from conservatives — with the ironic result of drawing more attention to the material."

As Jonathan Swan notes, “content obtained without authorization” is a hilarious standard that seemingly nobody at Twitter has spent any time thinking through.

Obama Says Trump Is a ‘Symptom’ of Misinformation
9:37 am
Barack Obama told Pod Save America that President Trump is responsible for the rapid spread of false information on social media.

Said Obama: “Social media, media infrastructure, the conservative media infrastructure. We’ve had this conversation before. That is a problem that is going to outlast Trump. Trump is a symptom of it and an accelerant to it. It has gotten turbocharged because of social media. And because the head of our government, of our federal government has resorted to it.””

With less than three weeks to go before Nov. 3, roughly 15 million Americans have already voted in the fall election, reflecting an extraordinary level of participation despite barriers erected by the coronavirus pandemic — and setting a trajectory that could result in the majority of voters casting ballots before Election Day for the first time in U.S. history.

In Georgia this week, voters waited as long as 11 hours to cast their ballots on the first day of early voting. In North Carolina, nearly 1 in 5 of roughly 500,000 who have returned mail ballots so far did not vote in the last presidential election. In Michigan, more than 1 million people — roughly one-fourth of total turnout in 2016 — have already voted.

The picture is so stark that election officials around the country are reporting record early turnout, much of it in person, meaning that more results could be available on election night than previously thought.

Fauci on coronavirus herd immunity:
'THAT IS NONSENSE AND VERY DANGEROUS'
Yahoo News Oct 15th 2020 9:40AM

Dr. Anthony Fauci on Thursday denounced the concept of herd immunity — the notion that if a large enough group of people contract an infection, it will ultimately stop the disease from spreading — calling it “nonsense” during an interview with Yahoo News.

“Anybody who knows anything about epidemiology will tell you that is nonsense and very dangerous,” Fauci told Yahoo News, “because what will happen is that if you do that, by the time you get to herd immunity, you will have killed a lot of people that would have been avoidable.”

Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and member of the White House coronavirus task force, discussed the coronavirus pandemic and the country’s response to it during a live interview Thursday morning with Yahoo News Editor-in-Chief Chief Daniel Klaidman and Chief Investigative Correspondent Michael Isikoff.

The coronavirus has killed more than 216,000 people in the U.S. and infected more than seven million, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Now, more than seven months after coronavirus was declared a pandemic, Fauci said Thursday that the U.S. is not in a good place.

“We talk about a second wave,” he said, “we’ve never really gotten out of the first wave. If you look at the baseline number of daily infections that we have had over the last several weeks [it’s] been around 40,000 per day. It's now gone up to about 50,000 per day. So right away, we have a very unfortunate baseline from which we need to deal.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and member of the White House coronavirus task force, talked to Yahoo News Editor in Chief Daniel Klaidman and Chief Investigative Correspondent Michael Isikoff on Oct. 15, 2020.
When asked about the herd immunity approach, which has been reportedly embraced by the White House, Fauci said that virtually anyone with a solid understanding of epidemiology would disagree with the idea of letting everyone get infected.

“My position is known. Dr. Deborah Birx’s position is known and Dr. [Robert] Redfield,” he said. “So you have me as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Debbie Birx, as the coordinator and a very experienced infectious disease person, the coordinator of the task force; and you have Bob Redfield, who's the director of the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention]. All three of us very clearly are against that.”

Why I’m ‘Fleeing’ Bill Barr’s Justice Department
11:15 am
Phillip Halpern explains in the San Diego Union Tribune why he’s quitting the Justice Department after 36 years:

“Maybe I should’ve seen this coming, but like many of my colleagues, I fervently hoped that Attorney General William Barr’s preemptive misrepresentation of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report was an honest mistake or a solitary misstep — rather than a deliberate attempt to conceal potential presidential misconduct. After all, Barr has never actually investigated, charged or tried a case. He’s a well-trained bureaucrat but has no actual experience as a prosecutor.

“Unfortunately, over the last year, Barr’s resentment toward rule-of-law prosecutors became increasingly difficult to ignore, as did his slavish obedience to Donald Trump’s will in his selective meddling with the criminal justice system in the Paul Manafort, Michael Flynn and Roger Stone cases. In each of these cases, Barr overruled career prosecutors in order to assist the president’s associates and/or friends, who potentially harbor incriminating information. Jobless Claims Still Exceed Pre-Pandemic High Point
October 15, 2020 at 11:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 15 Comments

“The number of new applications for unemployment benefits rose last week to the highest level since late August, as persistent layoffs hold back the economic recovery,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“Claims increased to 898,000 last week, holding above the pre-pandemic high point of 695,000.”

At a campaign rally in Iowa, President Donald Trump cited an unsubstantiated news report to revive a widely debunked false narrative about Joe Biden’s work in Ukraine on behalf of the Obama administration.

As we have reported more than once last year, Biden traveled to Kyiv as vice president and warned Ukraine’s then-president, Petro Poroshenko, that the U.S. would withhold $1 billion in loan guarantees until Ukraine removed its prosecutor general, Viktor Shokin, who was widely viewed as corrupt.

At the time, the international community and anti-corruption advocates in Ukraine were also calling for Shokin to be removed from office for his failure to aggressively prosecute corruption.

But Trump has repeatedly distorted the facts about Biden’s work in Ukraine to baselessly accuse his Democratic rival of seeking Shokin’s removal to help his son, Hunter, who at the time was a board member of a Ukraine gas company called Burisma. He left the board in 2019.
the Biden campaign about the authenticity of the emails and the claim that the laptop belonged to Hunter Biden, but we did not get a response.

Citing another email from that same story, Trump said that “the same Ukrainian energy executive even sent Hunter an email saying quote ‘we urgently need your advice on how you could use your influence.’ In other words, Hunter was being paid for access to his vice president father who was specifically put in charge of Ukraine and Russia.”

Trump is referring to a May 12, 2014, email Pozharskyi allegedly sent to Hunter Biden that asked for “advice on how you could use your influence” to help Burisma. Again, we don’t know if the email is authentic, but even so, the email isn’t evidence that Hunter Biden agreed to use his “influence” with his father to help Burisma. And it certainly isn’t evidence that Joe Biden did anything to help Burisma.

In Des Moines, Iowa, on Oct. 14, Trump cited “explosive documents” published earlier that day by the New York Post to revive his widely discredited claim that Biden “went to Ukraine and threatened to withhold $1 billion in aid if they did not fire the prosecutor that was investigating his son and the company that his son worked for.”

As we’ve written, there’s no evidence Hunter Biden was being investigated.

The president made this line of attack against Biden a central campaign theme last year — until a whistleblower last fall alleged Trump had pressured newly elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a July 25, 2019, phone call to investigate Burisma, Biden and his son, Hunter. The administration released a memo of the phone call that confirmed the whistleblower’s account, and a subsequent House investigation confirmed that the Trump administration withheld U.S. military assistance to Ukraine to pressure Zelensky to publicly announce that he would launch the investigations sought by Trump.

As a result, the president was impeached by the House in December for abusing his office and obstructing the House investigation.

Undeterred, the president at the Iowa rally cited unverified emails allegedly sent and received by Hunter Biden that had been obtained by the New York Post from Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, as evidence that “Joe Biden has been blatantly lying about his involvement in his son’s corrupt business dealings.”

But the Post story and Hunter Biden’s emails — which may or may not be authentic — don’t support Trump’s claims.

In one of several stories on Hunter Biden, the New York Post wrote about a “smoking-gun email” that it claims proves the Democratic presidential nominee helped his son and Burisma. The story is based on a photo of an email that Vadym Pozharskyi, an adviser to the board of Burisma, allegedly sent to Hunter Biden to “thank you for inviting me to DC and giving an opportunity to meet your father and spent [sic] some time together.” We have no way to verify that the email is authentic.

The Biden campaign says “no meeting, as alleged by the New York Post, ever took place” because it wasn’t on Biden’s schedule. Of course, that isn’t evidence a meeting didn’t occur — but the email (if authentic) isn’t evidence that a meeting did occur, either. The New York Post did not confirm that the meeting happened, and it’s unclear from the email if the meeting did occur.
