One more time for good measure
Regarding Charlottesville
Trump: "Those people -- all of those people – excuse me, I’ve condemned neo-Nazis. I’ve condemned many different groups. But not all of those people were neo-Nazis, believe me. Not all of those people were white supremacists by any stretch. Those people were also there because they wanted to protest the taking down of a statue of Robert E. Lee."
Trump: "As I said on -- remember, Saturday -- we condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence. It has no place in America. And then it went on from there. Now, here’s the thing --"
Trump: "So you know what, it’s fine. You’re changing history. You’re changing culture. And you had people -- and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists -- because they should be condemned totally. But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists. Okay? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly.
Regarding blm and Antifa riots:
Biden: There is no such thing as antifa. Antifa is an idea, not an organization.

Maricopa County, Ariz. (pop. 4,485,414)
Outlook: Lean Biden
Maricopa County is crucial to the state outcome; it’s home to Phoenix and 62 percent of Arizona’s residents. The county is also a living portrait of why Arizona has become so competitive: It has a young and fast-growing Hispanic population, conservative-leaning retirees from California and elsewhere and a substantial number of Mormons who once reliably voted Republican but remain skeptical of Mr. Trump.
In 2016, Mr. Trump carried Maricopa by three points, down from Mitt Romney’s 11-point margin in 2012. In 2018, the Democrat Kyrsten Sinema carried it by four points en route to winning a Senate seat, aided by gains in highly professional
A mid-September Monmouth University poll showed Mr. Biden leading Mr. Trump in Maricopa County 50 percent to 41 percent, a sign that Arizona’s largest county continues to trend left.

Trump to Offer $1.8 Trillion Relief Package

The White House is preparing a $1.8 trillion coronavirus relief offer, its largest proposal to date in the long running negotiations with congressional Democrats, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin is expected to discuss a new $1.8 trillion proposal with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi when the two speak Friday.
However, Axios reports that two sources close to Senate leadership said President Trump “is desperate, has zero leverage to push them to support a bill crafted by Pelosi and congressional Republicans aren’t inclined to wrap themselves any tighter to a sinking ship.”
Ted Cruz Warns of ‘Bloodbath’ for GOP In Elections
11:29 am EDT
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) warned that Republicans could see “a bloodbath of Watergate proportions” if voters are angry and broke when casting their ballots this year, CNBC reports.
Said Cruz: “If on Election Day, people are angry and they’ve given up hope and they’re depressed, which is what Pelosi and Schumer want them to be, I think it could be a terrible election. I think we could lose the White House and both houses of Congress, that it could be a bloodbath of Watergate proportions.”

Trump Cancels Weekend Rally in Pennsylvania

Trump Engineered a Sudden Windfall in 2016
11:45 am
Using President Trump’s leaked tax records, the New York Times reports on how Trump in 2016 “engineered a sudden financial windfall — more than $21 million in what experts describe as highly unusual one-off payments from the Las Vegas hotel he owns with his friend the casino mogul Phil Ruffin.
“The new findings cast light on Mr. Trump’s financial maneuverings in that time of fiscal turmoil and unlikely political victory. Indeed, they may offer a hint to one of the enduring mysteries of his campaign:
In its waning days, as his own giving had slowed to a trickle, Mr. Trump contributed $10 million, leaving many people wondering where the burst of cash had come from.
“The tax records, by their nature, do not specify whether the more than $21 million in payments from the Trump-Ruffin hotel helped prop up Mr. Trump’s campaign, his businesses or both. But they do show how the cash flowed, in a chain of transactions, to several Trump-controlled companies and then directly to Mr. Trump himself.”

"Among the likeliest scenarios in 538’s poll of polls is now a Biden Electoral College victory of over 400.

The Harris-Pence debate changed nothing, but firmly established Harris’ credentials as a possible president.
“And all this changes a huge amount.
A Biden win would be a reprieve for the country;
a Biden landslide would be an American miracle.
“Unlike anything else, it would cauterize the wound of Trump, preventing further infection.
"It would say to posterity: we made this hideous mistake, for understandable reasons,
but after four years, we saw what we did and decisively changed course.
"It would turn the Trump era of nihilism, tribalism and cruelty into a cautionary tale of extremism, illiberalism and, above all, failure…
"A landslide loss for Trump would mitigate, if not remove, the deep damage he has done.”

1. Kent County, Mich. (pop. 656,955)
Outlook: Lean Biden
The prosperous home of Steelcase office furniture, the DeVos family’s Amway empire and President Gerald Ford, Grand Rapids was long a Republican bastion owing to its deeply conservative Dutch Reformed roots. But its white-collar work force has soured on Mr. Trump’s party, and in 2016 Mr. Trump won Kent County by just three points, down from Mitt Romney’s eight-point margin.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, carried Kent County by four points in 2018, and Mr. Biden has a strong chance to win it in November. Private polls of the Third Congressional District, which covers much of Kent County, show Mr. Biden with a slight lead.
The details are very important.
Trump is defeating himself.
The Truthers will stay loyal to the President, but the women are sick and tired of the President.
Lol you are fucking stupid
2. Wood County, Ohio (pop. 130,817)
Outlook: Tossup
Wood County, just south of Toledo, has multiple personalities. At its northern end are close-in Toledo bedroom communities. It has a strong affinity for rural culture: its county seat, Bowling Green, hosts the National Tractor Pulling Championships each August. And its diesel-fueled culture might be balanced out by Bowling Green State University (enrollment 19,905), a trove of Democratic votes.
Wood County is a decent bellwether of the state: Mr. Trump carried it by eight points in 2016, matching his statewide margin. In 2018, Senator Sherrod Brown, a Democrat, carried it by 11 points. The Biden campaign has run ads in the Toledo broadcast market, which conveniently covers part of Michigan, too. Biden will get Ohio. He's getting the Obama votes.
3. Erie County, Penn. (pop. 269,728)
Outlook: Lean Biden
Philadelphia and Pittsburgh hog the spotlight, but Pennsylvania’s electoral ground zero might be its far northwest corner. The lakefront city of Erie is famous for assembling locomotives and packaging Smith’s meats. After decades of layoffs, it’s now home to a large population of refugees and the nation’s largest medical school by enrollment, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Erie was also the site of a big Trump breakthrough in 2016: He carried the county by nearly two points, defying decades of Democratic dominance owing to a strong union heritage. Mr. Trump likely needs to win it again to keep Pennsylvania in his column. A February Mercyhurst University poll showed Mr. Biden leading Mr. Trump 48 percent to 44 percent in Erie County.
Pennsylvania was one of the three states that got Trump elected.
Biden leads there and Wisconsin and Michigan.

Bloomberg: Trump’s Chance to Win Is Fading With Little Time Left to Recover
While the lesson of the 2016 campaign was never to count out Donald Trump, his path to re-election is narrowing dramatically as Democrat Joe Biden’s lead continues to grow and voters sour on the president’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
Trump now trails Biden by an average of 9.7 percentage points nationally, and by about 5 to 7 points in key battleground states, according to the RealClearPolitics average of polling.
With 25 days left, it’s not clear how Trump can make up lost ground.
The challenge got even harder Thursday when Trump rejected the idea of a virtual debate with Biden next week, erasing one of his few remaining opportunities to change the trajectory of the race.
“I don’t see how Donald Trump catches Joe Biden without having two debates,” Republican pollster Frank Luntz told Bloomberg Television on Thursday. “Without that debate, I can’t do the math to take him to where he needs to be if he expects to win this election.”
Democrats, still haunted by Trump’s 2016 victory over Hillary Clinton, aren’t yet celebrating. Clinton enjoyed a 5.3-point lead against Trump, on average, the same number of days before the election four years ago. But there are crucial differences this time, including a much higher favorability rating for Biden than Clinton enjoyed and Biden’s competitiveness in several states Trump carried in 2016, which also could shrink the president’s possible paths to re-election.
...Democrats are growing hopeful that Biden’s lead is large enough that it could overcome small irregularities in polling or any last-minute ballot challenges from Trump that, in that case, wouldn’t be enough to erase a victory. And there are strengthening indications that Trump may take Republican control of the Senate with him.
The article continues with even more good news.

Amy Coney Barrett failed to disclose talks on Roe v. Wade hosted by anti-abortion groups on Senate paperwork
By Andrew Kaczynski and Em Steck, CNN
Updated 1 hour ago Oct 9, 2020
(CNN) - Judge Amy Coney Barrett failed to disclose two talks she gave in 2013 hosted by two anti-abortion student groups on paperwork provided to the Senate ahead of her confirmation hearing to become the next Supreme Court justice.
Barrett, President Donald Trump's nominee to succeed Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, gave the talks -- a lecture and a seminar -- in 2013 in her capacity as a law professor at the University of Notre Dame. The seminar was co-sponsored by the school's Right to Life club and constitutional studies minor, and the lecture was held by the law school's Jus Vitae club. CNN's KFile found advertisements for two lectures on social media and in a weekly Notre Dame faculty newsletter.
It is not known what was said in the two events, though both centered on abortion court cases. In a separate instance, CNN's KFile found a publicized talk that Barrett gave to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade -- a seminar Barrett disclosed in her Senate paperwork -- was removed by the university from YouTube in 2014. A school spokesman told CNN the video is now lost.
Barrett's confirmation to the Supreme Court would strengthen its current conservative majority -- creating a 6-3 bloc of conservative justices -- and could limit abortion access.
Barrett's failure to disclose the two events also raises questions about whether the questionnaire is complete or whether there will be any consequences from the Republican-led Senate Judiciary Committee, which oversees her confirmation hearing. Past chairmen of the powerful committee have halted the nomination process after judicial nominees omitted information in their Senate paperwork but under committee Chairman Lindsey Graham that scenario is unlikely.
The committee has slated a hearing for Barrett on October 12 in an effort to confirm her by the full Senate before the election.
Senate Democrats on the Judiciary Committee sent a letter to the Justice Department this week that said Barrett did omit materials concerning Roe v. Wade and asked if Barrett omitted any more materials after the National Review reported that Barrett signed a letter on a "right to life" ad in 2006 that called for the end of the landmark legal decision.
White House spokesperson Judd Deere told CNN in an email, "Judge Barrett submitted her lengthy Senate Judiciary Questionnaire, spoke with an overwhelming majority of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and continues to be transparent throughout her confirmation process. She looks forward to answering questions from the Senators next week."
A spokesperson for the Senate Judiciary Committee told CNN "it is a very normal practice" for Supreme Court nominees to update their questionnaire, noting that several current Supreme Court justices also supplied updated copies.
CNN reached out multiple times to Barrett through her law chambers but did not get a response.

GOP Operatives See Race Slipping Away
NBC: "A series of setbacks for President Trump has left some Republican operatives and donors fearing that the race for the White House is slipping away and proposing that the party shift focus to protecting seats in Congress. NBC News reports.
'Said GOP consultant Brendan Buck: “We need to protect the Senate and limit the damage in the House. They can’t say it out loud, but the president is likely toast.”
Trump "Is Complicit"
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) writes in the Washington Post:
When I addressed the people of Michigan on Thursday to comment on the unprecedented terrorism, conspiracy and weapons charges against 13 men, some of whom were preparing to kidnap and possibly kill me, I said, “Hatred, bigotry and violence have no place in the great state of Michigan.” I meant it. But just moments later, President Trump’s campaign adviser, Jason Miller, appeared on national television accusing me of fostering hatred.
I’m not going to waste my time arguing with the president. But I will always hold him accountable. Because when our leaders speak, their words carry weight.
When our leaders encourage domestic terrorists, they legitimize their actions.
When they stoke and contribute to hate speech, they are complicit.
And when a sitting president stands on a national stage refusing to condemn white supremacists and hate groups, as President Trump did when he told the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by” during the first presidential debate,
he is complicit.
Hate groups heard the president’s words not as a rebuke, but as a rallying cry. As a call to action.
It has been a rough couple of weeks for President Trump.
His performance in the first presidential debate was widely panned; Trump and several members of his inner circle contracted COVID-19; and then the president said he was pulling out of the next debate, after the debate commission said it wanted the candidates to appear from remote locations, citing safety concerns in the wake of Trump's diagnosis.
The latter has left the fate of the remaining debates in doubt, as the campaigns and commission scramble to figure out how to proceed.
Given all of that, Trump's standing in the NPR electoral map analysis has gotten worse. With states that are determined to be likely to go for either candidate or leaning toward them, Democrat Joe Biden now leads Trump, 290-163.
Here are the moves we've made in this month's map:
Wisconsin: Toss-Up —> Lean D
Arizona: Toss-Up —> Lean D
Nebraska 2nd Congressional District: Toss-Up —> Lean D
Iowa: Lean R —> Toss-Up
Nebraska 1st Congressional District: Likely R —> Lean R
Missouri: Likely R —> Lean R
Alaska: Likely R —> Lean R
That puts Biden — right now — above the 270 electoral vote threshold needed to win a majority of the 538 available, leaving Trump with an uphill climb to win reelection. It comes with less than a month to go in the election — and with millions of votes already cast.
Even Republicans are pretty much convinced that the President has dragged them to a catastrophic defeat.
His own words are killing his chances to win a second term.
You Three Socialist Stooges don't act at all like Biden is winning.

‘We Had a Super-Spreader Event In the White House’
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the U.S.’s top infectious-disease expert, said that a gathering in the White House Rose Garden last month was a “super-spreader event” for the novel coronavirus, Bloomberg reports.
Said Fauci: “The data speak for themselves. We had a super-spreader event in the White House. And it was in a situation where people were crowded together, were not wearing masks. So the data speaks for themselves.”
School of Barrett’s Children Reports Outbreak
A school attended by some of the children of Amy Coney Barrett, the Supreme Court nominee who brought her family to a Rose Garden celebration at the White House on Sept. 26, notified parents on Thursday that one teacher and two high school students had tested positive for the coronavirus,” the New York Times reports.
“The outbreak at Trinity School, a small, private school in South Bend, Ind., is likely to intensify scrutiny of the White House event that some health experts fear led to the virus spreading among administration officials, guests and others who subsequently came in contact with them.”

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Nearly 50,000 voters received incorrect absentee ballots in the county that is home to Ohio’s capital, elections officials said Friday as they promised corrected ballots would be mailed within 72 hours.
With about 240,000 ballots mailed, that meant one in five voters received a wrong ballot. The error happened Saturday afternoon when someone changed a setting on a machine that places absentee ballots into mailing envelopes, Franklin County elections officials said Thursday.
This is how a mobster works. Trump grew in the gangster era.
Some ballots had an incorrect congressional race, while others had the correct information but were sent to voters in a different precinct. The Franklin County Elections Board said 49,669 voters received incorrect ballots out of 237,498 that were mailed.

“Where I think the president made a mistake is maybe a virtual debate isn’t an in-person debate, but it’s better than no debate. That’s what the president will get now.”

Shutdowns prevented 60 million coronavirus infections in the U.S., study finds
https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2404-8_reference.pdf
Shutdown orders prevented about 60 million novel coronavirus infections in the United States and 285 million in China, according to a research study published Monday that examined how stay-at-home orders and other restrictions limited the spread of the contagion.
A separate study from epidemiologists at Imperial College London estimated the shutdowns saved about 3.1 million lives in 11 European countries, including 500,000 in the United Kingdom, and dropped infection rates by an average of 82 percent, sufficient to drive the contagion well below epidemic levels.
The two reports, published simultaneously Monday in the journal Nature, used completely different methods to reach similar conclusions. They suggest that the aggressive and unprecedented shutdowns, which caused massive economic disruptions and job losses, were effective at halting the exponential spread of the novel coronavirus.
The researchers concluded that the six countries collectively managed to avert 62 million test-confirmed infections. Because most people who are infected never get tested or diagnosed with covid-19, the actual number of cases that were averted is much higher — about 530 million in the six countries, the Berkeley researchers estimated. They estimated that the United States, had it not imposed shutdowns and other measures, would have seen an additional 4.8 million diagnosed infections and 60 million actual infections.

Having chained their party to Trump, Republicans will follow him in his frantic effort to delegitimize the coming election. But I don’t think it will work. The vote remains too powerful an idea in the minds of Americans. They are already standing in long lines to cast the ballots that Trump claims are fraudulent. The word democracy might not be found in the Constitution, but your afraid of democracy.

Is Biden going to "pack the USSC"?
Trump is nuts.
Sean Hannity was on TV the other night lavishing praise on President Trump for his “leadership” during the pandemic, comparing him to Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill, towering figures who steered their countries through times of war.
Laughable stuff, of course.
In Trump, we have a president who lied to the country about the dangers of the novel coronavirus, flouted the advice of public health experts, imperiled his credulous supporters by dispensing crackpot medical advice and congratulated himself repeatedly as much of the country morphed into a petri dish of disease.
It’s neither FDR nor Churchill to whom our president should be compared.
It is that other iconic figure in American history, Typhoid Mary.
In the early 1900s, Mary Mallon, a cook for wealthy families, was believed responsible for infecting dozens of people with the salmonella typhi bacteria, at least three of whom died. A “super-spreader” before the term existed, she was an asymptomatic carrier, who refused to believe she was infected and spreading a potentially deadly disease.
Typhoid Donald doesn’t have that excuse. He knows he’s infected.
And yet one of the first things he did after helicoptering back to the White House from his brief sojourn at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center was to stride up the steps to the Truman Balcony, whip off his mask and pose as if he were some kind of conquering hero instead of a delusional COVID patient still shedding millions of virus particles, endangering the health of anyone who came near.
“He’s jacked up on steroids,” said CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
“It is amazing that all of these guys with this autocratic fetish,” a Lincoln Project co-founder, Steve Schmidt, told MSNBC’s Brian Williams, “they certainly do like the balconies, don't they?”
Reed Galen, another disaffected Republican co-founder of the Lincoln Project, put it best in a two-word tweet: “Benito Trumpolini.”
::
In a campaign-style video posted on Twitter on Monday night, the president, no longer looking as wan as he did in the hospital, where he was apparently out of range of his orange makeup, looked into the camera and announced that COVID is no big deal. "Don't let it take over your lives," he said. "Don't let it dominate you. Don't be afraid of it."
This from a man whose life came to a screeching halt on Friday, as his fever spiked, his oxygen levels dropped, he had trouble breathing, and he was whisked to Walter Reed, where he spent three days in the care of some of the world’s best physicians, who administered a trio of treatments to him that no other COVID-19 patient is believed to have received. All on the taxpayer dime.
So, sure. Don’t let COVID dominate your life. Even if it kills you.
Bm Donald Trump used the F-word during his Rush Limbaugh interview, saying: “If you fuck around with us, if you do something bad to us, we are gonna do things to you that have never been done before.”
Your President, ladies and gentlemen.
I'm an old carpenter who used the f word thousands of times, but I'm not the President of the United States of America!
Sen. Ted Cruz believes whether the 2020 election is a "bloodbath" or a triumph for the GOP all depends on whether voters are optimistic in November.
The Texas Republican warned that if “on Election Day, people are angry, they've given up hope and they're depressed, which is what Pelosi and Schumer want them to be,” there could be “a bloodbath of Watergate proportions,” which would entail losing the White House and both houses of Congress.
But “if people are optimistic, they are going back to work, they have a positive future, we could see a fantastic election,” Cruz said, which would mean President Trump getting reelected by a “big margin” and Republicans winning both houses of Congress.
“I don't recall an election in my lifetime where the delta, the spread between those two, was as dramatic as it is,” he told CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”
Cruz placed blame on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for holding up a long-awaited round of coronavirus relief.
President Trump abruptly postponed coronavirus negotiations earlier in the week, before reversing course and pushing for piecemeal aid bills. Pelosi said she wouldn’t approve a package unless it was broad in scope.

The Commission on Presidential Debates announced Friday that it ha canceled the Oct. 15 debate between President Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden after Trump declined to go along with the plan to hold it virtually.
“CPD announce that for the health and safety of all involved, the second presidential debate, schedule for October 15 in Miami, would be conducted virtually,” the CPD said in a statement released late Friday. “Subsequently, the campaigns of the campaigns of the two candidates who qualified for participation in the debate made a series of statements concerning their respective positions to participate in a virtual debate on October 15, and each how has announced alternate plans for that date.”
In the wake of Trump’s positive test for COVID-19, the CPD opted to move the second debate to an online format out of safety concerns.

My butcher of 30 plus years has taken in all the goats, fat lambs and beef I have needed processed. He is booked until July of 2021. He will hold spots IF I need them, which I will.
Canning supplies are not a problem. I am always stocked for two years out.
But, for some the shortage creates a real hardship.

White House Blocked Masks on Public Transportation

Trump May Ask Every Appointee for Resignation Letter
5:46 pm
“The White House Presidential Personnel Office is considering asking nearly every political appointee in the Trump administration to write and tender provisional letters of resignation right before the election,” Politico reports.
“The personnel office would then decide which ones to accept and which to reject — giving President Trump maximum flexibility in choosing his team in a possible second term.”

The president repeatedly referred to an antibody cocktail he received from the company Regeneron as a "cure" for the novel coronavirus. No cure yet exists for the virus, and the Regeneron product is not widely available to the public.
Trump lobbed another curveball into ongoing discussions about a possible economic aid package amid the pandemic, telling Limbaugh he would like to see a dollar figure larger than either party has proposed.
"I’m telling you something I don’t tell anybody else, because maybe it helps or maybe it hurts negotiations," Trump said. "I would like to see a bigger package."
The president earlier this week said he directed officials to halt negotiations over a stimulus deal, only to increase the administration's offer earlier Friday.
And the president again argued that Black Lives Matter is a "racist" and "Marxist" group, his latest diatribe against the organization amid months of protests against racial injustice and police brutality.
"It’s a term that sows division between Blacks and whites and everybody else, and it’s a very bad term for Blacks," he said.
Trump and Limbaugh spent a large portion of the interview complaining about the media. Trump attacked Fox News as a whole, complaining that the network was less favorable to him than it was four years ago and at one point blaming former Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), who is on the board of Fox's parent company, for the shift. Paul Ryan is a never Trumpet??
The president lashed out at LeBron James, Fox News anchor Chris Wallace, Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). For a second consecutive day, he swiped at Attorney General William Barr, this time over reports that a final report on the origins of the Russia investigation is not expected until after Election Day.
"I’d be surprised and I’d be very disappointed," Trump said of that prospect. "I’ll probably be disappointed. Because this stuff should’ve come out a year ago anyway."
The president a day earlier targeted Barr and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as he called for prominent Democrats, including former President Obama and Obama's vice president, now-Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, to be indicted.
Limbaugh and Trump have long shared a mutual admiration. The president awarded the controversial radio show host the Presidential Medal of Freedom earlier this year during his State of the Union address, and Limbaugh was effusive in his praise of Trump on Friday, calling his election "providential."
The radio host did at one point offer some blunt talk for Trump, telling the president he "did kind of bail" Biden out during last week's presidential debate "by the way when he started to fade and you kept talking at him."
As Trump neared the two-hour mark, it was Limbaugh who moved to wrap up the call.
Treason (with updates)
American intelligence has confirmed that Russian intelligence was involved in trying to swing the American election in favor of Donald Trump. American intelligence has also confirmed that members of the Trump campaign were in touch with members of Russian intelligence during the election. And during the impeachment hearings, extremely credible witnesses testified that Trump, with some members of his administration, leaned on the President of Ukraine to dig up dirt on Joe Biden in exchange for the release of already committed military aid that they badly needed in their fight with Russia.
When I was in nursery school, one of the first things I learned how to do was to add and subtract. And the very first addition I ever performed was to add one and one to make two. When I heard of the revelations by our intelligence community of the involvement of Russian intelligence in our electoral process and the Trump administration’s communications with them, I saw treason. When I heard about Trump’s attempts to manipulate the President of Ukraine, to acquire dirt on Joe Biden that would help him win the 2020 election, I saw treason. And when I heard of the reactions by most Republican politicians, Trump supporters, and the conservative media to those two issues, I found that I could come to only one of three conclusions: either they did not learn how to add when they were in nursery school, they are cowards, or they are complicit with treason against the United States.
Only a fool, coward, or traitor could doubt that the Trump administration connived and colluded with Russia, at least in spirit and expression of desire, if not in legally prosecutable fact, to steal the election from Hillary Clinton and thus install a presidency favorable to Vladimir Putin. And with the Ukraine fiasco, we had an impeachable, in the words of John Bolton, “drug deal,” intending to give Donald Trump four more years in the White House, absolving Vladimir Putin of the blame for manipulating the 2016 election, and bringing an end to the sanctions on Russia.
The United States and the American People are the victims of an attempted coup. It is a coup that was contrived and executed by Donald Trump, members of his campaign staff, members of his family, some members of the Republican Party, and some members of the military and business communities, with the help of Vladimir Putin and Russian intelligence. It’s a disorganized coup, subject to the whims of Donald Trump, but a coup nonetheless. And all of the individuals involved in perpetrating this coup, no matter what their motives, and no matter whether they are in or out of favor with Trump, are traitors. And those Americans who did not know what was happening, but are now refusing to face what has happened, whether they are Republican members of congress or just Trump supporters, are complicit with treason.
It is time now for all American patriots to rise and face the fact that an attempted coup, by a wild assortment of domestic traitors and foreign enemies, has been occurring. Then we all must demand that our elected representatives put an immediate end to this coup, first by continuing the investigation to get to the very bottom of everything that has happened, and finally by prosecuting every other individual involved, either directly or indirectly.
Now is not a time for cowardice, it is a time for courage and the expression of extreme outrage at what has happened and is still happening to our country. We cannot let this stand. We must fight to save our constitutional republic from the domestic traitors and foreign enemies who would like to turn our government into an autocratic, oligarchic, kleptocratic farce, where our representative democracy is nothing more than a front for traitors, psychopaths, criminals, and thieves.
Most Republican politicians, Trump supporters, and the conservative media, however, refuse to face what has happened to our country and what is yet to come. Either for partisan reasons, mercenary investments, fear of reprisal, or because Trump is all they’ve got, they will tell us that things are not as bad as they seem and that it is a left-wing liberal bias that is motivating the attacks on Trump. Do not trust them, trust your instincts, trust what you can see and feel, along with the facts that we already know. Things are as bad as they seem, patience has run out, everything is quite clear, and the time for action is now.
While we Americans were sleeping, a group of shameless criminals plotted to rob us of our representative democracy and freedom. They were confident that we would not notice, but we did. More of us than I thought would have been awakened by the robbers who have broken into The People’s House, and the American People are now rising from their slumber to meet them head-on. Our Democratic representatives and a few Republican allies are working hard to bring Donald Trump to justice, but if we can’t remove him from our White House through impeachment, then we will vote him out on November 3rd.
We, the citizens of this great republic, will not be fooled or cowed into submission. We will not surrender our will or our rights to the likes of Donald J. Trump and his gang of twisted sycophants, and we will never roll over to the influence of a foreign dictator. And now, with Trump’s reaction to Covid-19 and the Black Lives Matter protests, it is even more imperative that we remove him and his ilk from our government.

Second Debate Formally Cancelled
9:34 pm
“The second presidential debate was formally canceled late Friday after President Trump refused to participate in a virtual event, the latest sign of the upheaval that the coronavirus has wrought on the 2020 campaign,” the New York Times reports.
“Once Mr. Trump pulled out of the debate, his Democratic challenger, Joseph R. Biden Jr., scheduled his own town-hall-style event that night on ABC, leaving the commission little choice but to abandon its plans. Mr. Trump’s campaign was in talks on Friday with NBC to hold a counter-event for the president, most likely on the same night.”
Trump to Speak to Supporters from Balcony
9:39 pm
Washington Post: “The event — scheduled to feature Trump speaking from a balcony to a crowd of supporters on the South Lawn — has already caused concern among some officials in the White House, which has been rocked by an outbreak of the deadly disease.
“But Trump has brushed aside his advisers’ calls for caution, instead embracing a political strategy built on playing down the virus and using his own battle with it to argue that the nation has already overcome the pandemic.”
Trump’s Grip on GOP Loosens
Politico:
“For Republicans, fearful of a possible electoral disaster just weeks away, it has become safe at last to dis Donald Trump
— or at least to distance themselves from him in unmistakably purposeful ways.
“A barrage of barbed comments in recent days shows how markedly the calculus of fear has shifted in the GOP.
"For much of the past four years, Republican politicians were scared above all about incurring the wrath of the president and his supporters with any stray gesture or remark that he might regard as not sufficiently deferential.
"Now, several of them are evidently more scared of not being viewed by voters as sufficiently independent.
“This is far from an insurrection. Republicans in the main aren’t outright repudiating Trump. But they are effectively rolling their eyes in exasperation with him, and especially his handling of the coronavirus pandemic.”
Scott won't ask this question.

The Entire Presidency Is a Superspreading Event
Olivia Nuzzi profiles President Trump in the hospital:
“Donald Trump was on the phone, and he was talking about dying. It was Saturday, October 3, and while his doctor had told the outside world that the president’s symptoms were nothing to worry about, Trump, cocooned in his suite at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, was telling those close to him something very different.”
“I could be one of the diers,” he said.
“The person on the other end of the line couldn’t forget that unusual word the president used: dier. A seldom-said dictionary standard, it was a classic Trumpism, at once sinister and childlike. If being a loser was bad, being a dier was a lot worse. Losers can become winners again. Diers are losers forever. But aren’t we all diers in the end? Donald Trump, the least self-reflective man in America, was contemplating his own mortality.”
Lindsey Graham Refuses COVID Test
Sen. Lindsey Graham, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee set to consider President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee next week, refused on Friday to be tested for the coronavirus, AFP reports.
“Graham’s move prompted the debate with Jaime Harrison to be scrapped, with separate interviews of the candidates conducted instead.”
Nate Silver: “The reason Lindsey Graham won’t get tested despite having been exposed to many COVID+ people is because if he reveals a positive test and has to quarantine the Amy Coney Barrett nomination could get scuttled. There is no other logical reason.”

Facts are inconvenient things:
No Spike in Florida Coronavirus Cases Despite Lack of Enforceable Mask Mandate
There has been no spike in cases of the Chinese coronavirus in Florida over the last two weeks, despite Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) lifting key coronavirus restrictions and nixing the enforcement of local mask mandates across the Sunshine State last month.
On September 25, Gov. DeSantis took a major step, lifting key coronavirus restrictions at the state level. The order allowed businesses, such as restaurants, to operate at full capacity at the state level and required local governments to “justify” any restrictions on capacity moving forward. Additionally, DeSantis suspended all penalties related to local mask mandates, as he never issued a statewide mandate despite mounting criticisms from the left.
Fear-mongering is not an option.

The Three Socialist Stooges of don't act like their winning.
ANOTHER GOOD ONE!!!!
THEY ARE COMPLICIT!
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer:
“Hatred, bigotry and violence have no place in the great state of Michigan.
When our leaders encourage domestic terrorists, they legitimize their actions.
When they stoke and contribute to hate speech, they are complicit.
And when a sitting president stands on a national stage refusing to condemn white supremacists and hate groups, as President Trump did when he told the Proud Boys to 'stand back and stand by' during the first presidential debate,
he is complicit.
Hate groups heard the president’s words not as a rebuke, but as a rallying cry. As a call to action."
HE IS COMPLICIT!
A vote for Biden/Harris or any Democrat this year is a vote for crazy. Americans typically don't vote for crazy.
As Roger delightedly pointed out yesterday--
It has been a rough couple of weeks for President Trump.
And as Roger added:
Even Republicans are pretty much convinced that the President has dragged them to a catastrophic defeat.
His own words are killing his chances to win a second term.
YET ANOTHER:
Chris Wallace Says Trump Made ‘Big Mistake’ on Debate
Fox News anchor Chris Wallace put in as stark as terms possible that, in his esteem, President Trump made a “big mistake” in bowing out of the virtual second debate, Mediaite reports.
Said Wallace:
“Where I think the president made a mistake is maybe a virtual debate isn’t an in-person debate, but it’s better than no debate. That’s what the president will get now.”
He added:
“He is behind in the polls. He has two opportunities; it seems to me two big opportunities to flip the script, which were the two debates, and he gave one of them away.”
____________
JAMES' CORRECTION:
HE GAVE TWO OF THEM AWAY.
THE FIRST ONE HE GAVE AWAY BY ACTING LIKE AN A-HOLE, AND NOW THIS ONE.
A vote for Biden/Harris or any Democrat this year is a vote for crazy.
Wow cramps that is rich coming from a cultist and trump believer like yo!!!!!!!1 BWAAAAAAPAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! Trump is not only nuts, but you think that is good!!!!! He has no business running a country let alone a Mc Donalds!!!!!!

Desperate times for the dems. Look at the flood of political_lire spam and repeat spam. They will be screaming like banshees with their hair on fire !!!
And so will the DNC lapdog media.

LOL Why are so many Republican operatives throwing in the towel for Trump and turning instead to concentrate desperately only on the Senate and the House?
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer: “Hatred, bigotry and violence have no place in the great state of Michigan.
She tolerates a great deal of violence if it's comports with her agenda.
The great problem with her statement is who gets to define what hate and bigotry is. To her anybody who doesn't agree with he agenda is a hateful bigot. (This is why there is no hate or bigotry exception in the 1st amendment ).
She's a tyrant and should be called out as one.
Go back and read her words again. She "calls out" the right person and the right people.
F'n frantically says
[James] hangs on GODdard's every word
Knee slapping hilarious!
Anyone can see the words I "hang on" words come from The Wall Street Journal, Ted Cruz, CNBC, Mitch McConnell, Andrew Sullivan, NYT, WaPo, National Review, MSNBC, NBC, etc., etc., etc.
Also RealClearPolitics with its numerous opinion pieces and polls, and Republican operatives, donors, consultants, and internal pollsters.
TILLIS AS GOOD AS ADMITS THAT TRUMP WILL LOSE REELECTION
“The best check on a Biden presidency is for Republicans to have a majority in the Senate. And I do think ‘checks and balances’ does resonate with North Carolina voters.”
— Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), quoted by Politico, talking openly about a Trump defeat.
Fox News anchor Chris Wallace put in as stark as terms possible that, in his esteem, President Trump made a “big mistake” in bowing out of the virtual second debate, Mediaite reports.
Yeah because taking the advise of a Democrat operative always works well for Republicans.
Trump was right to veto a "virtual debate" Biden has every advantage in this setting without giving him a chance to fight back. From the answers being fed to Biden, to the obviously bias moderator, to the fact they have the ability to silence Trump by cutting his connection.
Debate face to face. The very fact that the commission changed the rules in the middle of the night told you all you need to know about their determination to give Biden every advantage.
Go back and read her words again. She "calls out" the right person and the right people.
I did. She's trying to justify her tyranny and incompetence while blaming Trump all at the same time. She's and incompetent governor who won't win a second term and will probably get primaried the next time around.
And the dumbass trump slurpers will continue to show up at trump rally no mater what the cost....What a bunch of moronic cultist willing to get sick to see the chosen one!!!!!! bWAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

"Taking the advise" (snicker).
Taking the advice is correct.
____________
It sure would be unfair to Trump if neither candidate is permitted to interrupt the other.
Trump can't function without bullying.
Trump Desperately Looks for One More Comeback
The Wall Street Journal:
“President Trump is at his lowest point in the polls in months, behind in ad spending and has spent the past week off the campaign trail after a positive Covid-19 diagnosis. Now, with just weeks to go before Election Day, he’s hoping for one more reset.
“From inside the White House, Mr. Trump has spent the past week employing unusual strategies to close the gap.
He pulled out of the second debate with Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden after organizers said it should be held virtually to avoid health issues.
He has criticized two of his highest-profile cabinet secretaries, Attorney General Bill Barr and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, for not being tougher on his political rivals.
“Campaign aides are hoping they can get their candidate back on the road and back on message, as they try to narrow a gap that they insist is smaller than in the public polls which show him trailing Mr. Biden nationally and in battleground states. But they have just 24 days and one remaining debate to do it.”
________
And whispering in their minds is this:
"It's too late already. He's too far down and it can't be done."
"The best check on a Biden presidency is for Republicans to have a majority in the Senate. And I do think ‘checks and balances’ does resonate with North Carolina voters.” — Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), quoted by Politico, talking openly about a Trump defeat.
Which of course was the scenario brought up by Politico itself. They really are dishonest hacks.
Would that they were as determined to get from Biden an answer to packing the court question if he wins. That would be something.
She tolerates lots of violence if it's comports with her agenda
And trump incites it if they are trump voters you dumb fuck!!!!
Pointing out the obvious pisses them off!
It sure would be unfair to Trump if neither candidate is permitted to interrupt the other.
Trump can't function without bullying.
It's certainly unfair when the moderator himself won't asked the questions of Biden that need to be asked and preventing Trump from asking those questions.
Or allow Biden to read his answers off a teleprompter.
And trump incites it if they are trump voters
The only one doing any inciting is Biden/Harris inciting ANTIFA and BLM. Even paying their bail when they get arrested for rioting, arson, and murder.
LOL Packing or not packing the Court is a contentious issue even among Democrats, and Biden will have to work that out AFTER he is elected.
Why should he cause any disunity in his Party BEFORE he is elected?
If your candidate were in a similar situation, you would ADVISE him to do the same, but he has repeatedly shown himself to be too politically stupid to follow such sound ADVICE.
Senseless said Politico itself. They really are dishonest hacks.
In his "mind" any story that hasn't originated from Fox news and Breitbart news Bloopers etc, are dishonest hacks.
Cultist believe that the President is perfect. And any criticism is dishonest hackers.
Roger loves the comfortable lies being to by the liberal hack media.
And we know they are lies because they are demonstrably proven to be lies.
Lies that would have never been exposed it it wasn't for outlets like Fox News, Breibart, The Federalist, Townhall, Redstate, etc.
9 people at Trump's Minnesota campaign rally have tested positive for the coronavirus
HuffPost US
Oct 10th 2020 7:56AM
Nine people who attended President Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Minnesota last month have tested positive for the coronavirus, and one remains in intensive care, state health officials reported Friday.
All nine were at the Sept. 18 rally in Bemidji, weeks before Trump tested positive for the coronavirus. But few people attending the rally wore face masks or followed social distancing guidelines, which are recommended by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Two of the nine were hospitalized, reported The Duluth News Tribune.
Minnesota Health Department officials can’t say definitively that all nine contracted COVID-19 at the rally, but they have confirmed they all attended the event, spokesperson Doug Schultz told Politico. The stricken Trump supporters were at the event at a time “when they were likely to have been exposed to the virus that made them ill (14 days prior to illness onset),” Schultz wrote in an email.
__________
The article continues.
But of course we know this is only FAKE NEWS designed to make the President look bad for continuing to hold rallies without requiring masks or distancing.
You made my point.
LOL Packing or not packing the Court is a contentious issue even among Democrats, and Biden will have to work that out AFTER he is elected.
Why should he cause any disunity in his Party BEFORE he is elected?
The voters deserve to know whether he plans to pack the court or not before they vote for him. It is the most fundamental change in the federal governor short of passing a constitutional amendment.
We assume the answer is yes, since it is widely unpopular with the people but very popular with the childish temper tantrum wing of the Democrat party.
Just to today he said the voters don't deserve to know his position. That takes a special kind of arrogance
You made my point.
If your point is the liberal media is dishonest and covers for liberals then you certainly are correct.
Fox News, Breibart, The Federalist, Townhall, Redstate, etc. Are propagandists. They have a political bias.
The MSM are journalists, most of them just report the facts
The only one doing any inciting is Biden/Harris inciting ANTIFA
Anita exists in the minds of the dumb fucks like you cramps.....Biden has more than once stated violence is not acceptable....What more should he do in your crippled mind?????? BWAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! Stand down and stand by and the asslole white guys buy more ammo and pledge reality to the liar!!!!!!
Don't believe me? Let's go to the video.
Asked if voters deserve to know if he would pack the Supreme Court, Biden says “No, they don’t deserve” to.
media is dishonest and covers for liberals
Is false.
Anita exists in the minds of [people] like you cramps.
They have an awful big web and social media presents for just being a figment of my imagination there Denny.
media is dishonest and covers for liberals
Fact Check True. I would give numerous and well documented examples to support this (starting with the Russian Hoax) but your invincible ignorance would not accept them so it's a waste of time.
But you'll be gratified to know you are one of the "elite few" who believe the liberal media without question. Poll after poll shows trust in the liberal media is at an all time low. Use car salesmen rate higher.
DT is both mentally & physically ill; should he be removed from office?

Check out cultist.
You are a cultist
You will support Trump, if he refuses to leave office, even if he is defeating in the electoral college!
But it won't happen.
Trump ran for President promising voters he would raise taxes on the wealthy. He did not.
THAT takes a special kind of arrogance.
Not promising and simply saying, If you trust me to make the right decision, vote for me, is both more honest and more humble.

1. Other that the very same polls, that predicted a landslide election for Hillary Clinton in 2016, what makes you think he not on his way to reelection.
And
2. What makes you thing it either one or the other? Plenty of people who are not supporting Trump also distrust the media.
Like I said, voting for Biden/Harris or any Democrat this year is voting for crazy.
We are so screwed. Mike Pompeo said on fox, that he and Trump are going to release Hillary's emails. That's it for her, she has no chance of winning this time.
I think the American people deserve to know the magnitude of the bullet they dodged.
Majority of Americans Predict Trump Will Win Reelection
Regardless of whom they personally support, 56% of Americans expect Trump to prevail over Biden in the November election, while 40% think Biden will win. Although majorities of partisans think their party's candidate will win, Republicans are more likely to believe Trump will win (90%) than Democrats are to think Biden will (73%). Fifty-six percent of independents predict that Trump will win.
https://news.gallup.com/poll/321347/trump-pre-debate-job-approval-highest-may.aspx
Ronald Reagan won a landslide reelection in 1984. His opponent Walter Mondale asked the public if they were better off than they were four years ago. The public answered "Hell yes" and delivered 49 states plus the District of Columbia to Reagan.
And now 56% of the public say they're better off than they were four years ago.
Four years ago -- under Trump's opponent, Joe Biden.
And note that Walter Mondale was the VP to a president who delivered a horrible economy, only to see that economy revived by a Republican successor.
But now the voters want to return to a period when they were doing more poorly?
They're going to do the equivalent of turning the country over to Jimmy Carter's vice president after four successful years?
Just before the debate, Gallup had Trump gaining four points of approval, and likewise losing four points of disapproval, to get to his highest recent approval rate, 46% to 52%.
I think most would say the debate and covid diagnosis were powerful one-two punch that dropped Trump's support since then.
That's my guess. But I'm not 100% sure of that.
I was observing some politicos I know. They're having a hard time squaring the current polling with what they know anecdotally.
They all note this: Of all the people they know -- including RINOs and squishes and NeverTrumpers who voted against Trump in 2016 -- many of the NeverTrumpers are now reluctant Trump voters, and many of 2016's reluctant Trump voters are now enthusiastic Trump voters.
On the other hand, they don't know anyone who has moved from voting for Trump in 2016 to voting for Biden.
One friend tells me that the suburban well-to-do Wine Moms and Squish Sisters he knows are now fully on the MAGA train.
Everyone they know who's moved on The Trump Question (and Trump seems to be the only issue in 2020) has moved in favor of Trump.
They also note that the "Shy Trumper" effect -- where Trump supporters won't admit to pollsters they still support Trump -- is still strong, based on their own experience.
One relates that he did not tell his own children that he voted for Trump, due to social pressure and the idea that he didn't want to "normalize" Trump's bad behavior to his children.
If you can't tell your own kids you voted for Trump, you're not going to tell a pollster.
And this person works in conservative politics, too!
If even people in the conservative movement can't admit they're Trump supporters -- well good luck getting Wendy Wine Mom to admit that on the phone.
A friend of mine was a hardcore NeverTrumper in 2016 but now is a crawl-over-broken-glass Trump Voter. No, he doesn't really like Trump, but unlike Jonah Goldberg and Steve Schmidt, he recognizes the profound threat the left poses to what is left of America.
He has kept in touch with his NeverTrump pals. Media types. The types who annoy you on Twitter.
And while he won't Name Names, he tells me that many of the NeverTrumpers I hate are now "red pilled" Trump voters.
They just won't admit it publicly.

The MASSIVE TRUMP FAMILY Swamp
That Trump Built
12:26 pm EDT
New York Times: “As president-elect, he had pledged to step back from the Trump Organization and recuse himself from his private company’s operation. As president, he built a system of direct presidential influence-peddling unrivaled in modern American politics.
“Federal tax-return data for Mr. Trump and his business empire, which was disclosed by The New York Times last month, showed that even as he leveraged his image as a successful businessman to win the presidency, large swaths of his real estate holdings were under financial stress, racking up losses over the preceding decades.
“But once Mr. Trump was in the White House, his family business discovered a lucrative new revenue stream: people who wanted something from the president. An investigation by The Times found over 200 companies, special-interest groups and foreign governments that patronized Mr. Trump’s properties while reaping benefits from him and his administration. Nearly a quarter of those patrons have not been previously reported.”
ANOTHER TRUMP SUCCESS WITH N. KOREA:
North Korea Unveils Massive Ballistic Missile
12:23 pm
“North Korea unveiled what analysts believe to be one of the world’s largest ballistic missiles at a military parade celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Workers’ Party broadcast on state-run television on Saturday,” CNN reports.
Will Trump Give Pelosi Everything She Wants?
12:21 pm
HE MAY HAVE TO
Playbook:
“Here is a remarkable fact: President Trump and Speaker Nancy Pelosi haven’t spoken in nearly one year. Their last one-on-one conversation was Oct. 16, 2019 — they had a brief interaction at the State of the Union, before Pelosi ripped the president’s speech up. In that time period, the nation has been turned upside down, shaken to the core by an unrelenting virus that has killed more 200,000 and hobbled a once vibrant economy.
“But through it all, Pelosi and Trump have remained distant, unified only in their distaste for one another.
“Al of a sudden, though, their incentives are aligned: they both want a massive Covid deal in an unthinkably quick timeframe. This may happen, it may not, but both sides seem to be rowing toward the same goal at the moment. Washington has never negotiated on a package of this magnitude this late into a presidential election year.
“Trump is unreadable and unplayable for most Washington observers because he, in fact, has no governing theory. But, in recent days, he has apparently decided that it is in his political interest to spend trillions of dollars.”
Huge Absentee Vote Favors Democrats So Far
12:14 pm
Politico: “Of all the mini-battlegrounds within Wisconsin — perhaps the most pivotal state in November for both President Trump and Joseph R. Biden Jr. — the mother lode of absentee ballots is coming in Dane County, a Democratic stronghold that includes Madison. As of Friday, the number of submitted ballots there amounted to more than 36 percent of the county’s total 2016 election vote, a sign of significant enthusiasm; that figure is 10 percentage points higher than in any other county in the state…
“The yawning disparities in voting across Wisconsin and several other key battlegrounds so far are among the clearest signs yet this fall that the Democratic embrace of absentee voting is resulting in head starts for the party ahead of Election Day. For Republicans, the voting patterns underscore the huge bet they are placing on high turnout on Nov. 3, even as states like Wisconsin face safety concerns at polling sites given the spikes in coronavirus cases.
THIS IS KNEE SLAPPING HILARIOUS!

Er...ratty. Hate to tell you, but that was PRE Trump's disastrous debate and PRE his catching COVID.

Barron's, Oct 9:
Here’s what the latest polls and betting odds are saying about the possible outcome.
Biden ended Thursday with a clear lead in the polls, with the RealClear Politics average of national polls showing 51.6% of Americans preferring Biden to 41.9% preferring Trump. RCP’s betting odds average gave Biden a 64% chance of winning to Trump’s 35.4%.
These predictions hilarious
things haven't changed one bit.
what is TRULY knee slapping hilarious is to think the debate changed the mind of a single voter.
if you're an "independent " squish voter who was swayed by the first debate you probably have no business voting since you haven't been paying attention AT ALL over the past six months.
that Gallup poll is as accurate today as it was the day it was released a month ago.
if you believe the polling you're an insufferable hack and a fucking idiot.
I’ll say it again, folks. The polling is screwed. It’s skewed. It’s a mess. Either we’re right to be highly skeptical and Trump wins an Electoral College landslide, or the pollsters are right and we’re heading for Armageddon come Election Day. Still, the oversampling of Democrats, college-educated voters, and suburban Republicans hostile to Trump should bring a ton of scrutiny. The reluctance for some of these clown firms to switch to likely voter samples is also suspect. We’re not going to have a 2008 or 2012 electorate. For starters, a new Hill-Harris poll noted that young Americans are not excited about this election at all. They’re not planning on voting. Gallup reportedly said that youth interest in voting this cycle hit its lowest levels since 2000. That’s in keeping with the results from Democracy Institute’s Patrick Basham, whose polling data, which has been mentioned in The Washington Times and Forbes, suggests there will be 1 million fewer young people voting this cycle.

THE SWAMP
The Entire Presidency Is a Superspreading Event Down in the polls, high on steroids, and clinging to good health while endangering everyone else’s.
By Olivia Nuzzi
Art: Eric Fischl
Donald Trump was on the phone, and he was talking about dying. It was Saturday, October 3, and while his doctor had told the outside world that the president’s symptoms were nothing to worry about, Trump, cocooned in his suite at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, was telling those close to him something very different.
“I could be one of the diers,” he said.
The person on the other end of the line couldn’t forget that unusual word the president used: dier. A seldom-said dictionary standard, it was a classic Trumpism, at once sinister and childlike. If being a loser was bad, being a dier was a lot worse. Losers can become winners again. Diers are losers forever. But aren’t we all diers in the end? Donald Trump, the least self-reflective man in America, was contemplating his own mortality.
He said it again: “I could be one of the diers.”
The previous day, at 12:54 a.m., he had announced that he and the First Lady, Melania, had tested positive for COVID-19 in an outbreak that would sideline dozens across the West Wing, the East Wing, the highest levels of the federal government, the military ranks, Trump’s 2020 campaign team, and prominent supporters in the religious community. The virus had barreled into the very White House that allowed its spread throughout the United States, where 213,000 were dead and 7.6 million more were infected amid the biggest economic collapse since the Great Depression.
As infections swelled nationwide, the virus made its way inside the president himself — an epic security failure with no modern analog. It was over a century ago, amid a pandemic in 1919, that Woodrow Wilson got sick in Paris. His White House blamed what it called a cold and a fever on the dreary weather. But, in fact, Wilson was sick with the virus now known as the Spanish flu, which killed hundreds of thousands of Americans as his administration looked away. One hundred and one years later, the story of Trump’s “mild symptoms” became less and less true as the hours ticked by. His fever crept up. His cough and congestion grew worse. Doctors gave him oxygen and administered a high dose of an experimental antibody treatment unavailable to the ailing masses and made using fetal tissue, a practice his administration opposes, from the drugmaker Regeneron. Still, he resisted going to Walter Reed. “I don’t need to go,” he said, according to a person who spoke to him. “I’m fine. I’m fine. We have everything we need here.”
Persuading him to leave the White House required an intervention from his doctors, members of the White House operations staff, the Secret Service, and his son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner. They had failed to stop the mass deaths of high-risk Americans, but they were going to save Trump, the most important high-risk American of them all. They told him, “This isn’t just your choice. This really isn’t about you. It’s about the presidency. Our job is to protect the presidency, and you occupy it.” They asked him to think about the military and everyone else whose life would be upended if the state of the country’s leadership was in doubt.
Fine. He agreed to walk across the South Lawn and board Marine One. The White House said the move was made “out of an abundance of caution.” In a video posted on social media, the president hinted that things weren’t so great. He put it this way: “I’m going to Walter Reed hospital. I think I’m doing very well, but we’re going to make sure that things work
Undercover Huber
@JohnWHuber
Amy Coney Barrett should just refuse to answer any Democrat question in her Senate hearing by saying you’ll know my position on that after the confirmation vote
She could even call it The Biden Standard
M
A second former White House official said the problem is “now people are so broken down, to the point where everyone’s been in ‘Jesus, take the wheel’ mode for the last couple years, and fighting against him is only gonna get them burned. Why even try?” The president’s staff, this person said, have no ability to think strategically because the president’s behavior poses new threats to survival every five minutes. “I don’t think they’re even considering what happens if he’s back in the White House and he needs oxygen or a ventilator. Their view is ‘If it happens, well, we’ll fucking figure it out when it happens!’ ”
Like Gingrich, they have to stay optimistic. “They aren’t even considering what happens when he’s feeling worse than he’s feeling now, when he’s hopped up full of steroids and other performance enhancers. He’s on the sort of drugs you’d see with a Tour de France rider in the mid-’90s!” Another way to say this, the former White House official said, was that the president is “hopped up on more drugs than a Belgian racing pigeon.” In keeping with the bird theme, this person said the president’s illness was proof that “the chickens are coming home to roost.”
“Going back to 2016,” this person added, “you always had these warnings from the Clinton camp and Democrats and the Never-Trump Republicans that, if he takes office and if a crisis hits, it’s gonna be a mess. But people don’t really vote on that when there’s not a crisis. People think, A crisis isn’t gonna happen! May as well vote for the guy with a good tax policy. Suddenly, this happens, and you always assume it won’t happen to you, but when you act like that, bad things happen!”
One theory of Trump’s self-immolation campaign is that it’s about gaining a sense of control. “I don’t think he wants to lose. I think he wants to have excuses for why he did lose,” a third former White House official said. “If it’s the ballot, the China virus, if it’s Nancy Pelosi. I just think he wants an excuse.”
As he considers the end, he fakes his way through a performance of political possibility. One person who publicly supports Trump and considers him a friend said that, in conversations with White House and campaign officials following the president’s release from the hospital, it became clear that no one who was supposed to know seemed sure when he would be okay. “They’re putting out a big ‘Oh, everything’s fine!’ face. But I don’t think they know how much stamina he’s gonna have,” this person said. “I didn’t like the way he looked on that balcony. Last week, I would’ve said that he was definitely going to win. Now, I don’t know.”

Donald Trump does not often get sick. The philosophy of Fred Trump decreed that “sickness was weakness,” Mary Trump told me, “which obviously Donald has adhered to, which is a big part of the reason we’re in this horrible mess we’re in.”
Mary Trump is the president’s niece as well as a psychologist, whose best seller, Too Much and Never Enough, analyzes her uncle through the dysfunctional family he came from. In her view, the president is best understood as a self-unaware Tin Man, abandoned as a small child by his sick mother and rejected by his sociopath father until he became useful to him, whose endless search for love and approval plays out as mental warfare on the Free World he improbably represents. “In order to deal with the terror and the loneliness he experienced, he developed these defense mechanisms that essentially made him unlovable,” Mary said. “Over time, they hardened into character traits that my grandfather came to value. When you’re somebody who craves love but doesn’t understand what it means — he just knows he misses it and needs it, but he’ll never have it because he’s somebody nobody loves — that’s fucking tragic. He still needs to go to prison for the rest of his life. It’s not a defense. But it’s sad.”
For two weeks before he died, Fred Trump was hospitalized at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in what Mary remembers as “a very beautiful corner room with lots of sunlight.” With her uncle at his father’s bedside, she said, “everyone just stood around chitchatting, making small talk — they just don’t understand how to be human.” When his mother was in the hospital, often for osteoporosis and once after a brutal mugging, Trump visited with an attitude of “Why the fuck do I have to be here?” she said. “It was of no use to him whatsoever.” When Mary’s father, Fred Jr., died in 1981, his brother didn’t even show up to the funeral.
In his 2007 book Think Big, the future president recalled how, a decade before, he “unexpectedly came down with a wicked case of the flu” in the middle of his negotiations to buy a newspaper (he didn’t say which one). “I felt terrible. It was so bad that I called the sellers and told them we would have to postpone the closing until I was better,” he said, which was “very unusual” because “I never get the flu. It’s been ten years and I haven’t been sick a day since then.” Trump didn’t share the story of this freak illness to reveal his humanity but to add to his myth. He lost out to another buyer in the end, he said, and he was happy he did because, he claimed, the unnamed paper turned out to be a bad investment that was some other sucker’s problem. “Catching the flu was a lucky break that saved me from ruin,” he said. “Sometimes luck makes better deals than talent.” In other words, the idea that sickness is weakness, except for when it happens to him, took root a quarter-century before he made it his case for reelection.
Trump is aware that he isn’t healthy. His wife, an Eastern European former model who eats salmon and greens, lengthens her muscles on a Pilates reformer, and glows as if cast in bronze, is “healthy.” As a 74-year-old who takes the unscientific position that human beings have a finite amount of energy that exercise needlessly drains, and who thus never engages in any physical activity more strenuous than golf or tweeting, and whose vices include red meat, French fries, ice cream, Oreos, and Diet Coke, he knows he is very much not that.
And he understood that with age and weight comes heightened risk in the coronavirus pandemic. But he couldn’t accept that he wouldn’t be fine, that he was part of the “at-risk seniors” his advisers kept telling him he should think about since they were an important voting demographic and they were literally dying by the thousands. What he could accept even less than not being fine was not seeming fine. His supporters like to imagine him as a cartoonish representation of his vigorous, manly spirit, a joke directed at anyone who doesn’t find it funny. In memes, he body-slams his enemies. A video from the Trump campaign, released the week of his COVID-19 diagnosis, shows him body-slamming the virus. When I stopped by the home of Willard and Dolly Smith in New Hampshire last month, the flag on the couple’s front lawn showed Trump’s fleshy face on Rambo’s ripped body. “I’m back because I’m a perfect physical specimen and I’m very young,” the president joked on Fox Business on Thursday. But the stabs at self-deprecation, more necessary at this moment than ever before, do little to mask deep insecurity. Since his illness, the makeup the president applies himself has gotten so heavy and so dark that rather than obscure his pale coloring, it emphasizes the contrast between his unnatural face and the bare skin of his ears and hands. (All those years spent judging beauty pageants, and he never learned from the contestants the value of body makeup.)
Personality is policy in the Trump administration, and the president’s insecurity has made the uncertainty about the country’s leadership — unavoidable when any chief executive falls ill — even worse. His unwillingness to admit human frailty has led the White House and its doctors to keep information about his illness not only from the public and the press (three members of which have, so far, been infected at the White House too) but from his own staff. After Hope Hicks began experiencing symptoms at the Minnesota MAGA rally on Wednesday, forcing her to isolate in the back of the plane on the trip home, officials with whom she’d had contact remained in the dark. After she tested positive on Thursday afternoon, the White House failed to notify others who would soon test positive themselves. They learned about it when the world did, not with an official disclosure but with a leak to the media. “The president could’ve given it to her,” one of those people told me, in fairness, but “I would’ve done things different that day, had I known.”
Trump did know, but he didn’t change his plans. At 1 p.m. on Thursday, he flew to his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club, for a fund-raiser with hundreds of his supporters, some of whom he spoke with indoors. Later that night, he tweeted about Hicks being sick. “Terrible!” he said. “The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantining process.”
Reading the message, the person said, “I assumed he must’ve had a preliminary positive one.” The lack of transparency, this person added, is “symptomatic about how people I work with always keep the wrong things secret.” Suicidal in all senses, this is the Trumpian madness that threatens the president’s political and earthly future as it puts at risk everyone around him.
As one White House official put it: “Everybody at the top should be fired.”
