So 88% of those testing positive for Covid are wearing masks?

Science is not suggesting that mask wearing prevents the spread of Covid

A study conducted in the United States in July found that when they compared 154 “case-patients,” who tested positive for COVID-19, to a control group of 160 participants from the same health care facility who were symptomatic but tested negative, over 70 percent of the case-patients were contaminated with the virus and fell ill despite “always” wearing a mask.
“In the 14 days before illness onset, 71% of case-patients and 74% of control participants reported always using cloth face coverings or other mask types when in public,” the report stated.
In addition, over 14 percent of the case-patients said they “often” wore a face covering and were still infected with the virus. The study also demonstrates that under 4 percent of the case-patients became sick with the virus even though they “never” wore a mask or face covering.

Now there are arguments to be made that many of these people are catching the Covid virus because they are "improperly" wearing the masks, but detailed studies of this situation shows that from a strict medical and scientific standpoint, that a clothe mask is mostly ineffective in preventing the spread of any virus. Even an N-95 mask only filters out 95% of airborne particles (thus the name N-95).  Meaning that even wearing an N-95 mask is not a guarantee that you will not catch a virus. This is why you see doctors now wearing a plastic face protector over their N-95 mask.

That is not to say that wearing a clothe mask is harmful, or otherwise had no actual medical value. There will be at least a marginal difference from a medical standpoint. But make no mistake, the real value in wearing a mask is to "fit in" with the crowd and make others around you feel like you care about Covid. The mask wearing is being done to not appear "rude" to those who actually believe that it will prevent Covid or that those not wearing them are on a death wish. Or perhaps the real gain to wearing the mask is to not be harassed or otherwise chastised by those who want to control you and your actions.

But considering that the vast minority (less than 4%) of the positive cases came from those who were not wearing masks, it might be time to rethink this whole mask wearing deal. At least if we actually want to "follow the science".

THERE ARE FAR MORE IMPORTANT THINGS TO TALK ABOUT OTHER THAN MASK WEARING, CH.

Trump Has More Than $1 Billion In Debt
11:08 am
No aspect of Donald Trump’s business has been the subject of more speculation than his debt load. Lots of people believe the president owes $400 million, especially after Trump seemed to agree with that figure on national television Thursday night. In reality, however, he owes more than $1 billion,” Forbes reports.

Pennsylvania Rejects 372K Absentee Ballot Applications

“Pennsylvania has rejected 372,000 requests for mail ballots, straining election offices and bewildering voters in one of the most hotly contested battlegrounds in the presidential election.”

Election Forecasts Converge

Although their creators have been battling on Twitter over methodology, two prominent election forecasting models are now quite similar.

FiveThirtyEight gives Joe Biden an 87% chance at winning, while The Economist gives Biden a 91% chance.

Trump Figures Out a Way to Further Alienate Women
10:45 am
Susan Glasser:
“I do not know who will win the election less than three weeks from now. But I do know this: if Trump does lose, he’s right that his sheer, massive UNLIKABILITY will be a major contributing factor. He’s a bully and a boor. He’s overbearing, self-absorbed, impossible to shut up, and especially patronizing to women, which, of course, is one of the reasons why those suburban moms he is begging to vote for him are telling pollsters that they are decidedly against him.

“Trump was certainly no nice guy in his Thursday-evening town hall, on NBC, offering those who tuned in a repeat of his harsh performance in his first debate against Joe Biden. This time, Trump’s foil was not Biden, because Trump had refused to debate him on the terms set by the Commission on Presidential Debates, but Savannah Guthrie, the NBC News moderator. Guthrie seemed to infuriate Trump with her quick questions and real-time fact-checking of some of his most egregious whoppers. The President was loud, and increasingly red in the face, as he struggled to respond. He berated Guthrie and refused to answer questions. He offered a sarcastic aside about how something she said was ‘so cute.’ He lectured her on how ‘underlevered’ he was. None of that seemed likely to win over suburban women.”

Trump Advisers Brace for Loss
11:21 am
Jonathan Swan:
“Three senior Trump advisers who recently talked to campaign manager Bill Stepien walked away believing he thinks they will lose.

“The Trump campaign is filled with internal blaming and pre-spinning of a potential loss, accelerating a dire mood that’s driven by a daily barrage of bleak headlines, campaign and White House officials tell me.

"Said one adviser: 'A lot of this is the president himself. You can’t heal a patient who doesn’t want to take the diagnosis.'

Trump’s Not Smiling Now

Paulette Dale, a registered Republican who told President Trump he had a nice smile at last night’s town hall event on NBC, told the Miami New Times she’s going to vote for Joe Biden.

Lil Schitty who used to be smart now buys into the BS of trump and his stupidity I guess if a sample size is small enough, you may get a result as stupid as you portray......sad the actual science does say masks are not 100% effective, but can slow the spread significantly much to the chagrin of stupid fuck trump slurpers like scott!!!!!! BWAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

Lil Schitty who used to be smart now buys into the BS of trump and his stupidity

The study has nothing do to with Trump. The study was conducted by the Center for Disease Control. There are also many studies and empirical statistical evidence that the mask mandates in most every state were followed by a large "increase" in cases (rather than a decrease).

If we recall... at the beginning of this, we were told to wash our hands and never touch our face (especially avoid the mouth and eyes). Because the most common way this will spread is by picking it up on your hands and then moving it to the face (by touching your own face with a germ ridden hand).

But by putting on masks, taking them off, then putting them back on multiple times a day, we are doing exactly what we were originally told not to do (which is put our hands on our face).

Reality... is the people in charge of this have no clue what is and isn't working or what will or won't work in the future. We are blindly following the mandate of the day, under the guise of following science, when in fact the empirical data suggests that our assumptions (and intuitive thinking) are simply not correct.

Your stupid ass comments and thread have everything to do with trump.....The study was not about masks you asshole....The data that you cite was an aside in the study that had 300 participants. Once again you take a small truth and apply it to the universe!!!! Typical Lil Schitty BS hiding the fact that studies and science embraces masks slowing the spread down.....God you a fucking useless!!!!

Well Denny - the first three phases of a clinical study generally involve less people than 300. Phase 0 will have as few as 10-15 people, Phase 1 will have less than 100. Phase 2 will involve a few hundred (300 being a reasonable amount).

But I guess you know more about medical studies than the people who conduct them, huh?

CDC director Robert Redfield said on Wednesday that wearing a mask might be "more guaranteed" to protect an individual from the coronavirus than a vaccine. Redfield's comments came in response to a Senator's question about whether President Trump is undercutting coronavirus-prevention efforts by forgoing a mask in public settings.

Hours later, Trump said Redfield made a "mistake."

But studies have shown that mask-wearing effectively prevents transmission of the coronavirus. The CDC recommends their use in public and when social distancing is difficult.

CLAIM

More people who wear masks become sick with COVID-19 compared to non-mask wearers, therefore masks don’t work or are making us ill

VERDICT

DETAILS

Flawed reasoning: The comparison made in the claim cannot evaluate mask effectiveness in reducing the spread of COVID-19, because the study that the claim is based on included many more people who wear masks than people who didn’t. Of the 314 individuals surveyed in the study, only 11 never wore masks. Because the group sizes are so uneven, a comparison of the proportion of people who tested positive for COVID-19 who wore masks and who didn’t would show mask wearers to be the majority.
Misleading: An underlying assumption of the claim is that cloth masks are mainly intended to protect the wearer from infection. However, health authorities advise the public to use cloth masks to reduce the spread of COVID-19 from infected to uninfected people. Such masks are not intended to protect the wearer from infection.

KEY TAKE AWAY

Health authorities encourage the public to use cloth face masks to reduce the spread of COVID-19 from infected to uninfected people. Scientists use case-control studies, like the one cited in the claim, to evaluate whether a person’s activities, such as wearing face masks or going to restaurants, influence their risk of disease. This study approach is not ideal for detecting the effect of an intervention to reduce the spread of a disease when it is widely used, as is the case with wearing face masks. Scientific evidence supports the use of face masks as an effective measure for reducing the spread of COVID-19.

FULL CLAIM: “CDC study finds overwhelming majority of people getting coronavirus wore masks”; CDC study shows that more people who wear masks become sick with COVID-19 compared to non-mask wearers, therefore masks don’t work or are making us ill

REVIEW
Misinformation aimed at discouraging mask use has been prolific during the COVID-19 pandemic, as detailed in several reviews by Health Feedback. Claims that masks do not work or make people more likely to get COVID-19 began circulating and went viral on Facebook and other social media platforms like Twitter in early October 2020 (see example here). In addition to social media users, media outlets, including The Federalist, The Blaze, Fox News, and Breitbart, have also published similar claims. also published similar claims. These claims are allegedly supported by findings from a study published in September 2020 in the Mortality and Morbidity Weekly Report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)[1].

The claim asserts the study found that people who wear masks become infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 more often than people who never wear a mask. Specifically, the claim cites figures from the study, which report that 3.9% of people who tested positive for COVID-19 reported never wearing a mask, whereas more than 80% reported wearing a mask either often or always

You jumped the gun and bought the BS based on YOUR BIAS and STUPIDITY!!!!!! Scott, unless you believe that the AP is an enemy of the people. You are 100% wrong again.

TRUMP, looking out over his crowd: “Look at all the masks. You know, they keep saying, ‘nobody wears a mask, wear the mask.’ Although then they come out with things today. Did you see CDC? That 85% of the people wearing a mask catch it, OK?” — remarks at rally during the day in Greenville, North Carolina.

THE FACTS: He’s botching the study’s findings, repeatedly. The study cited, by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, did not find that 85% of mask wearers catch COVID-19. If that were the case, the majority of Americans would be infected.

It found something quite different: that 85% of the small group of COVID-19 patients surveyed — about 150 on this question — reported they had worn a mask often or always around the time they would have become infected.

The group’s exposure to potentially infected people in the community varied. Most reported shopping or being in a home with multiple people. But they were twice as likely to have eaten at a restaurant, where masks are set aside for the meal, than were uninfected people in a control group.

Most studies have shown that wearing masks reduces the transmission of the virus by blocking respiratory droplets. Several studies have also shown that masks could offer some protection for the people who wear them.

The findings were in a CDC Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, published last month.

Printing Company Late Sending Out Mail Ballots
3:30 pm
A Cleveland company that agreed to print absentee ballots for dozens of counties in Ohio and Pennsylvania is 10 days late in getting them to voters, the New York Times reports.

Here’s the kicker: The company’s owners are Trump supporters and flew a Trump flag at their headquarters.

Said CEO Richard Gebbie: “We fly a flag because my brother and I own the company and we support President Trump.”
___________

Why not just go ahead and add, for good measure,
"and being supporters of President Trump, we are for suppressing American voters' voting rights in accordance with his own disdain for the Constitution."

Pedo the fucking hack

And of course Teagan only tells half the story and the pederast blindly posts

We have been working with the boards of elections ... since August to make sure the ballot distribution process would go as smoothly as possible. Anticipating that the volume of requests might be two times what it was in 2016, our company bought extra equipment, brought in extra staff and expanded hours to prepare to meet the demand," Gebbie's letter said.

"It is fair to say that no one - not the various boards of elections, not Ohio's Secretary of State, not our company - anticipated the staggering volume of mail-in ballot requests that has actually occurred. One of our counties, for instance, told us to expect 40,000 to 70,000 mail-in ballot requests. To date, we have processed 95,000 requests for that county alone. With another 14,000 ballots requested from the county this week. The estimates provided to us were not what ended up as the reality," he said.
