Why hasn't Joe Biden condemned all of the antifa violence?

Regarding Charlottesville
Trump: "Those people -- all of those people – excuse me, I’ve condemned neo-Nazis. I’ve condemned many different groups. But not all of those people were neo-Nazis, believe me. Not all of those people were white supremacists by any stretch. Those people were also there because they wanted to protest the taking down of a statue of Robert E. Lee."
Trump: "As I said on -- remember, Saturday -- we condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence. It has no place in America. And then it went on from there. Now, here’s the thing --"
Trump: "So you know what, it’s fine. You’re changing history. You’re changing culture. And you had people -- and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists -- because they should be condemned totally. But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists. Okay? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly.

Regarding blm and Antifa riots:

Biden: There is no such thing as antifa. Antifa is an idea, not an organization.

Antifa really is more of an idea than an organized group. I am antifa in the sense that I am an anti fascist.

Many people here in Normal (and sister city Bloomington) Illinois have Black Lives Matter signs in their yards. At least one of our local churches has a Black Lives Matter sign in front of it. I am a member of that church.

Have there been instances when some Black Lives Matter demonstrations have turned violent?

Regrettably, yes. But most Black Lives Matter people engage in peaceful protests, although sometimes with understandable anger. And some engage in no crowd protests at all.

Biden has condemned all violence, looting, destruction of property, hate actions, and hate speech. But he will not and should not condemn all who are part of the BLM movement and are antifascistic in their political stances.

I would hope that you are too.

The claim: Biden is not against rioting and violence and property damage

George Floyd was killed by police on May 25, and since then, protests across the country have not ceased. As voters gear up to vote in the 2020 election, President Donald Trump is accusing his opponent, former Vice President Joe Biden, of supporting “rioters” and violence that has resulted from some protests.

“When is Slow Joe Biden going to criticize the Anarchists, Thugs & Agitators in ANTIFA? When is he going to suggest bringing up the National Guard in BADLY RUN & Crime Infested Democrat Cities & States?” Trump tweeted Aug. 30.

The president has made that claim several times this summer, and his supporters have followed suit, suggesting Biden’s silence is a political tactic.

“Turns out people don’t like seeing their country destroyed. So, after 90+ days of silence and a dip in the polls, I’m now against rioting," a Facebook post, which depicts Joe Biden peeking around the text, reads.

The user who made the Facebook post on Sept. 1 did not respond to USA TODAY’s request for comment.

Fact check: Biden, like Trump, received multiple draft deferments from Vietnam

Biden has consistently condemned violence
While Biden has supported protesters’ right to demonstrate since protests began in May, he has also condemned any resulting violence on a consistent basis.

The first statement the Democratic presidential nominee publicly made regarding the matter was on May 29, when he told CNN that people “have a right to be, in fact, angry and frustrated. And more violence, hurting more people, isn’t going to answer the question.”

On the fifth night of demonstrations, May 31, Biden released a statement that said protesting police brutality is “right and necessary” and the “American response."

“But burning down communities and needless destruction is not,” Biden wrote. “Violence that endangers lives is not. Violence that guts and shutters businesses that serve the community is not.”

More: Biden condemns violence 'on the left or the right' and challenges Trump 'to do the same'

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

On June 2, Biden said, “there is no place for violence, no place for looting or destroying property or burning churches, or destroying businesses,” the Washington Post reported.

He echoed that sentiment a month later.

“I’ve said from the outset of the recent protests that there is no place for violence or the destruction of property,” Biden said July 28, according to the Post. “Peaceful protesters should be protected — but arsonists and anarchists should be prosecuted — and local law enforcement can do that.

Biden’s most recent condemnation of protest-related violence was made Aug. 31, after a man was fatally shot in Portland.

"The deadly violence we saw overnight in Portland is unacceptable," he said in a statement. "Shooting in the streets of a great American city is unacceptable. I condemn this violence unequivocally. I condemn violence of every kind by any one, whether on the left or the right."

"And I challenge Donald Trump to do the same."

Fact check: Claim on Trump nepotism, family profiting from presidency is partly false

Biden loses some ground in polls
It’s true that Biden saw a slight dip in the polls after the Republican National Convention.

According to a Morning Consult poll released Aug. 29, Biden leads Trump by six points, polling 50% to Trump's 44% among likely voters, compared to 52% to 42% before the Republican National Convention. The poll was conducted a day after the RNC concluded; the previous poll, showing Biden with a 10-point lead, was conducted Aug. 23, after the DNC.

However, it’s misleading to construe Biden’s remarks on protest-related violence as an attempt to improve his standing in the polls, as he has made similar comments throughout the summer.

Fact check: In 2010, Donald Trump offered $6M to try to stop a mosque near Ground Zero

Our rating: False
We rate the claim that a dip in the polls led Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden to condemn protest-related violence after 90 days of silence FALSE because it was not supported by our research. Biden has consistently condemned violence, on both sides, all summer.

To condemn violence without condemning the organizations responsible for it is feckless, empty rhetoric.

There is no "understandable anger" that justifies murder, arson and looting. Especially when the targets of the murder, arson, and looting are also the suppose victims of the very thing that makes their anger "understandable".

Biden: ANTIFA is an idea.

So where is the condemnation?

JAMES agrees,
Anger can get out of hand, it is true, and hit people it should not hit, and that is both regrettable and NOT justifiable, although sometimes it does help to realize that people who get pushed around repeatedly, and have been shoved over the edge one time too many, may 'understandably' feel that there is no other recourse to them except to demand justice trough acts of violence.

But no, even that kind of anger is not justified, for it usually hurts those it is meant to help, and also because the cynical abusers of the less powerful can point to it as justification for their exploitative, abusive deeds, and hatred.

No, such anger is NOT justified, but it IS understandable.

If I were black and I saw video after video after video showing black people of both genders being treated by SOME white policemen in ways that cannot be described as ANYthing other than BARBARIC, I WOULD BE ANGRY. I would be DAMNED angry, UNDERSTANDABLY angry, especially when I consider the fact that in the days before there were devices that could make video recordings capable of unmistakably PROVING police misconduct, policemen could lie their way out of almost ANYTHING they did, no matter how perverse and unjust, and the courts would sustain them almost without exception!

So I can understand the anger of my black brothers and sisters who have been subjected to such treatment for decades and even centuries and it angers me to to see Donald Trump try to leverage that anger in such a way as to benefit himself politically, pouring gasoline onto the fire rather than trying to do the more difficult task of helping to unify our people by stressing that both sides need to listen to one another and better understand one another and try to work together to solve, rather than provoke, such problems.

And if you cannot see and understand this, then I think you need to take another look into that Book that you profess to revere where it is clearly taught that in the just society that God desires, the oppressed and the poor and the less powerful among us are NOT to be misused and oppressed by the more powerful and the richer and the more privileged among us.

Blessed are you poor, for yours is the Kingdom of God. But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your good things.

Whatever you do to the last and the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you do to me.

You must make yourself the servant of all, for even I did not come among you as one to be served, but to serve, and to give of my life for all.

For the Karens who think mask makes a diffrence.

Mask Facts

All the cloth masks and materials had near zero efficiency at 0.3 µm, a particle size that easily penetrates into the lung (SARS-CoV-2 is 0.125 µm)
Efficiency for the entire range of particles
T-shirts — 10%
Scarves — 10% to 20%
Cloth masks — 10% to 30%
Sweatshirts — 20% to 40%
Towels — 40%

Conclusion: Wearing masks (other than N95) will not be effective at preventing SARS-CoV-2 transmission, whether worn as source control or as PPE.

N95s protect health care workers, but are not recommended for source control transmission.

Surgical masks are better than cloth but not very efficient at preventing emissions from infected patients. Cloth masks must be 3 layers, plus adding static electricity by rubbing with rubber glove.

The cloth that serves as the filtration for the mask is meant to trap particles being breathed in and out. But it also serves as a barrier to air movement because it forces the air to take the path of least resistance, resulting in the aerosols going in and out at the sides of the mask.

An August 2020 UCSF study suggested that the mask would decrease the absolute volume of the inoculum. (The concentrations of bacteria upstream and downstream of the test devices were measured with an aerodynamic size spectrometer)

Not Wearing Mask May Make Virus Worse for Trump

“President Trump may experience worse symptoms because of his failure to wear a mask,” the New York Times reports.

“Dr. David Nace, a geriatrics expert at the University of Pittsburgh, said in an interview that people who don’t wear masks are exposed to higher concentrations of the virus, which can worsen the course of the disease.”
___________

It's almost like he was just asking for it, isn't it?

White House Staff Frustrated by Lack of Info

Axios:
“Some current and former White House officials have been privately complaining about the reckless attitude internally toward social distancing and mask wearing, feeling they are being put at risk unnecessarily every day when they show up to work.

“The White House has still not adequately explained why Trump went to a donor event in New Jersey on Thursday after learning that one of his closest aides contracted the virus.

“Even some top West Wing aides were left in the dark about the chain of events that started with Hope Hicks feeling symptoms and isolating on Air Force One on Wednesday, and culminated with the president’s 1 a.m. tweet that he had tested positive.”

_____________

They were even going to keep Hicks' infection secret, until they couldn't.

It can't get any worse than this.
Or at least, it never has before.

He only started caring when it was he himself who got it.

On the Decision to Go To Walter Reed
Washington Post:
“As Trump’s condition deteriorated during the day Friday, the president and his team ultimately made the decision to send him to Walter Reed preemptively — and, from a public relations perspective, when he was still able to walk to Marine One on his own, according to one outside adviser in frequent contact with White House officials.

They feared the possibility of a further decline, and what that might mean, both for the president’s health and his political optics.”

It's beginning to sound a little grim.

The Busy Week When Trump Met the Virus

New York Times: “It is not clear exactly when Mr. Trump was infected or by whom, and the White House remained secretive about the circumstances on Friday, declining to provide any account of who made the decision for the president to go to New Jersey or of how Ms. Hicks’s illness was handled on Wednesday and Thursday.

“But by day’s end, there was little doubt that the virus had been circulating in proximity to Mr. Trump for the past week, even as he disparaged mask wearing and campaigned in person in front of crowds that were not socially distanced.”

Associated Press:
Trump's cavalier approach to COVID has caught up to him.
