President Donald J. Trump The White House Washington, D.C. 20500
Dear Mr President
I appreciate the opportunity to update you this afternoon on the Department's review of voter fraud allegations in the 2020 election and how these allegations will continue to be pursued. At a time when the country is so deeply divided, it is incumbent on all levels of government, and all agencies acting within their purview, to do all we can to assure the integrity of elections and promote public confidence in their outcome.
I am greatly honored that you called on me to serve your Administration and the American people once again as Attorney General. I am proud to have played a role in the many successes and unprecedented achievements you have delivered for the American people. Your record is all the more historic because you accomplished it in the face of relentless, implacable resistance. Your 2016 victory speech in which you reached out to your opponents and called for working together for the benefit of the American people was immediately met by a partisan onslaught against you in which no tactic, no matter how abusive and deceitful, was out of bounds. The nadir of this campaign was the effort to cripple, if not oust, your Administration with frenzied and baseless accusations of collusion with Russia.
Few could have weathered these attacks, much less forge ahead with a positive program for the country. You built the strongest and most resilient economy in American history - one that has brought unprecedented progress to those previously left out. You have restored American military strength. By brokering historic peace deals in the Mideast you have achieved what most thought impossible. You have curbed illegal immigration and enhanced the security of our nation's borders. You have advanced the rule of law by appointing a record number of judges committed to constitutional principles. With Operation Warp Speed, you delivered a vaccine for coronavirus on a schedule no one thought conceivable - a feat that will undoubtedly save millions of lives.
During your Administration, the Department of Justice has worked tirelessly to protect the public from violent crime; worked closely with leaders in Mexico to fight the drug cartels; cracked down on China's exploitation of our economy and workers; defended competition in the marketplace, especially the technology sector; and supported the men and women of law enforcement who selflessly—and too often thanklessly-risk their lives to keep our communities safe.
As discussed, I will spend the next week wrapping up a few remaining matters important to the Administration and depart on December 23rd.
Wishing you, Melania, and your family a Merry Christmas and a Blessed Holiday Season. God Bless.
Sincerely, William P. Barr Attorney General

BRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday congratulated U.S. President-elect Joe Biden for his Nov. 3 election victory, finally accepting the loss of Donald Trump, a political idol with whom he had sought to forge closer bilateral ties.
Biden's victory and Bolsonaro's reluctance to recognize it have cast a dark cloud over U.S.-Brazilian relations, which had warmed to the point of discussing a free trade deal last year.
Biden is likely to take a tougher line on Brasilia in areas such as the environment, human rights and trade, leaving the far-right Bolsonaro even more isolated on the global stage.

Longtime GOP strategist Steve Schmidt announced that he is registering as a Democrat after nearly 30 years with the Republican Party.
Schmidt made the announcement during an episode of the "Battleground" podcast published Monday, as he and co-host David Plouffe were discussing the Republican House members and state attorneys general that backed Texas's ill-fated election lawsuit before the Supreme Court.
"I spent 29 years as a Republican, I've spent two and a half as an independent, and later this afternoon I will register as a member of the Democratic Party," Schmidt told Plouffe. "Because in America today, it's only the Democratic Party-which is the oldest political party in the world-that stands for the ideas and ideals of American liberty."

The president was reportedly furious upon learning Barr was aware of an investigation into Hunter Biden's taxes for months before it became public knowledge. Barr also publicly broke with Trump on election fraud, stating the Justice Department had not seen evidence of it on a scale that would change the result.
At one point, Trump declined to directly answer a question from a reporter when asked about whether he still has confidence in Barr, responding: "Ask me that in a number of weeks from now. They should be looking at all of this fraud."
Trump is likely to push Barr's successor to investigate both the Hunter Biden matter and the election. The Wall Street Journal reported Trump had urged Barr to appoint special counsels to investigate both issues, something Barr has resisted.
The president has, throughout his time in office, blurred the traditional boundaries between the White House and Justice Department. He urged former Attorney General Jeff Sessions to stop special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation; he repeatedly publicly weighed in on the Justice Department's cases against Roger Stone and Michael Flynn; and he urged the Ukrainian president to get in touch with Barr about an investigation into the Bidens, which ultimately triggered the impeachment proceedings.
Trump has expressed frustration that an ongoing investigation by John Durham into the origins of the Russia probe had not yielded charges against Obama administration officials, and as recently as Tuesday he retweeted a post calling for top Georgia officials to be jailed.
Jeffrey Rosen, who currently serves as the No. 2 at the Department of Justice (DOJ), will move to the top spot after Barr leaves. He previously served as deputy secretary of Transportation from 2017 to 2019.
Some legal experts argue Rosen is altogether different from Trump's past DOJ chiefs.
"Rosen, the new acting AG, is an establishment Republican, an [American Bar Association] leader, a very conservative champion of deregulation," tweeted Jed Shugerman, a professor of law at Fordham University, who is a co-author on amicus briefs challenging Trump's emoluments clause violations. "I warned against Sessions, Whitaker, & Barr from the beginning. Rosen is nothing like them."
Peter Shane, a professor who teaches constitutional law at Ohio State University, also said his impression of Rosen is that he is a "well-respected administrative lawyer of a conservative bent" who is facing a tough month ahead.
While it is not possible to predict how Rosen will respond if the commander in chief comes calling on him to take steps like investigate his political foes, there is a ticking clock that leaves Rosen with a buffer of 36 days to weather any pressure he may face from Trump and his allies.
Barr largely received praise from Trump allies during his term for taking a series of actions that appeased the president, while legal experts, Democrats and other critics have long warned Barr was threatening the rule of law by bending the whims of the judicial system to appease a president who likes to walk over boundaries and longstanding practices.
Trump has already sought to begin pardoning his allies, with some reports suggesting he was offering them as a form of protection to officials after his time in office concludes. But the purported move raised concern among some who feared the optics, particularly because they didn't believe they had done anything to violate the law.
After years of dangling a pardon for his former national security adviser Michael Flynn, Trump last month went through with it. Flynn had pleaded guilty to lying to federal investigators about his contacts with a Russian diplomat before the start of the Trump administration.
Trump also commuted the sentence of his longtime ally, Roger Stone, a provocateur who was found guilty of seven felony counts last year, including witness tampering.
Flynn and Stone are viewed as just the start, with Trump reportedly musing about preemptively granting clemency to officials including his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and members of Trump's family.
Some legal experts say Barr's departure may do little to change Trump's plans on pardons, should he decide to go that route.
"I don't know that Barr's presence or absence will make any difference to who Trump may be planning to pardon, or when," said Jeffrey Crouch, an American University law professor who specializes in presidential pardons and federal executive clemency.
Crouch noted that Trump has bucked the traditional process to grant clemency or pardon individuals. In the past, presidents have typically relied on the pardon attorney's office in the Justice Department for clemency advice.
"But Trump's track record shows that he usually has not. The president has the constitutional power to grant clemency on his own. Despite the usual screening mechanism provided by the Pardon Attorney, he certainly could proceed to pardon people without DOJ involvement, if he wanted to," Crouch told The Hill.

Gap In Florida Covid Deaths Appeared Before Election
10:00 pm
“An astonishing pattern has emerged in Florida’s COVID death tally — one that suggests the state manipulated a backlog of unrecorded fatalities, presenting more favorable death counts in the days leading up to the 2020 presidential election,” the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
“At issue is the state’s handling of the lag between the date someone dies and the date Florida reports that death in the public count. With minor exceptions, Florida quit including long-backlogged deaths in its daily counts on Oct. 24, 10 days before the Nov. 3 election, and resumed consistently including them on Nov. 17, two weeks after the election.”

'I want to get something done': Biden urges Georgians to vote in key Senate runoff election
Yahoo News
6:48 PM
ATLANTA — President-elect Joe Biden traveled to Atlanta on Tuesday, just one day after the Electoral College affirmed his victory in the national election over President Trump, to thank Georgians for putting him over the top and to remind them that the job is not done.
“I know what we can do,” Biden said at an outdoor drive-in rally. “I know what this country is capable of. I know the future we can build together. Now it’s time to send Jon [Ossoff] and [the Rev.] Raphael [Warnock] to Washington to help me get it done.”
Biden held the rally in the Kirkwood section of Atlanta at Pratt-Pullman Yard, a historic landmark in the city. A sea of packed, honking cars filled the industrial area, while a crowd of about 500 onlookers stood by listening to speakers just outside the yard’s gates. It was Biden’s first official trip since being named the 46th president, and he didn’t hold back in his rebuke of Georgia’s two Republican senators.
”Maybe your senators were just confused,” Biden said of David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, who backed a baseless Texas lawsuit that tried and failed to overturn the election results in four states. “Maybe they think they represent Texas. Well if they want to do the bidding of Texas, they should be running there instead of here in Georgia.”
Biden spent much of his speech encouraging Georgians to head to the polls in favor of Ossoff and Warnock, the two Democrats running against the incumbent GOP senators.
“I need two senators from this state [on my side],” he said. “I want to get something done. Not two senators who are just going to get in the way. Because look, getting nothing done just hurts Georgia.”
Biden’s trip to the Peach State coincides with early voting there that kicked off on Monday. In the first two days, nearly a half million Georgians have already cast their ballots.
At the rally, former Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Ossoff and Warnock took turns on the stage ahead of Biden, each stressing the importance of the runoff race, slated for Jan. 5.
“We’ve got to stay committed and have a plan,” Abrams said. “I’ve got two plans. Their names are Ossoff and Warnock.”
Unless Georgia elects both Democratic contenders, the GOP will retain its Senate majority and its ability to block Democratic legislation. And while it’s difficult to accurately poll special elections, surveys have indicated that the Democrats are roughly neck and neck with their Republican opponents.
“My message is simple,” Ossoff said. “It’s time to vote and the polls are open.”
Ossoff said that “health, jobs and justice” are at stake in the election.
“Georgia, we need to do right by Joe Biden,” he added. “We need to make sure Joe Biden can pass his agenda. Because if Mitch McConnell controls the Senate, they’re going to try to do to Joe and [Vice President-elect] Kamala [Harris] just like they tried to do to President Obama.”
Warnock offered an even starker message to Georgians.
“Elections are a matter of life and death,” he said. “So vote like your life depends on it, because it does.”
Many Georgia Republicans put Trump ahead of party and expect him to stay as president, hurting their chances in the Senate runoff.
____________
Yes, that's right, Georgia Republicans. Trump is going to overthrow the election and remain as President, so you don't need to vote anyway.
Biden Mulls Republican for Commerce Secretary
11:15 pm
“President-elect Joe Biden is considering some well-known Republicans — think Meg Whitman types — for Commerce secretary as a way to signal to red-state Americans he understands their concerns and plans to address them,” Axios reports.
“Biden’s team is debating the political upside of an across-the-aisle pick, and it’s still very possible the president-elect will settle on an all-Democratic Cabinet.”

The refusal of the U.S. Supreme Court to hear the appeal from the state of Texas, joined by 18 other states, is an outright abdication. Of course, Texas and its co-petitioners have perfectly adequate standing to demand that all states, in choosing a president, conduct their elections credibly enough to assure the whole country that the Constitution has been followed in filling the nation’s highest offices. For the Supreme Court to take the position, as it did, that it could not hear the election challenge case because Texas and the others did not have the standing to challenge how another state conducts its presidential election is completely spurious in the circumstances. Where the courts don’t exercise their jurisdiction, a vacuum arises which is likely to be filled by lawlessness, and potentially, even violent lawlessness.
The United States has become a country where a majority of Americans—people of good will from both parties—believe presidential elections are not conducted honestly. (Think back to the contested election of 2000.) An overwhelming majority do not trust the media, which, in political matters, is effectively a totalitarian enterprise slandering the Republicans and censoring criticism of the Democrats.

Mar-a-Lago neighbors to Trump: Spend your post-presidency elsewhere

Next-door neighbors of Mar-a-Lago, President Trump’s private club in Palm Beach, Fla., that he has called his Winter White House, have a message for the outgoing commander in chief: We don’t want you to be our neighbor.
That message was formally delivered Tuesday morning in a demand letter delivered to the town of Palm Beach and also addressed to the U.S. Secret Service asserting that Trump lost his legal right to live at Mar-a-Lago because of an agreement he signed in the early 1990s when he converted the storied estate from his private residence to a private club. The legal maneuver could, at long last, force Palm Beach to publicly address whether Trump can make Mar-a-Lago his legal residence and home, as he has been expected to do, when he becomes an ex-president after the swearing-in of Joe Biden on Jan. 20.
The contretemps sets up a potentially awkward scenario, unique in recent history, in which a former Oval Office occupant would find himself having to officially defend his choice of a place to live during his post-presidency. It also could create a legal headache for Trump because he changed his official domicile to Mar-a-Lago, leaving behind Manhattan, where he lived before being elected president and came to fame as a brash, self-promoting developer. (Trump originally tried to register to vote in Florida using the White House in Washington as his address, which is not allowed under Florida law. He later changed the registration to the Mar-a-Lago address.)
In the demand letter, obtained by The Washington Post, an attorney for the Mar-a-Lago neighbors says the town should notify Trump that he cannot use Mar-a-Lago as his residence. Making that move would “avoid an embarrassing situation” if the outgoing president moves to the club and later has to be ordered to leave, according to the letter sent on behalf of the neighbors, the DeMoss family, which runs an international missionary foundation.
For years, various neighbors have raised concerns about disruptions, such as clogged traffic and blocked streets, caused by the president’s frequent trips to the club. Even before he was president, Trump created ill will in the town by refusing to comply with even basic local requirements, such as adhering to height limits for a massive flagpole he installed, and frequently attempting to get out of the promises he had made when he converted Mar-a-Lago into a private club.
The Mayo Clinic wrote just before Thanksgiving that its research had confirmed the value of mask wearing: “Mayo Clinic research confirms critical role of masks in preventing COVID-19 infection.” A bold claim! But what did that research consist of?
The researchers set up a pair of mannequins and expelled from one of the mannequins a stream of 2 micron polystyrene particles, the same size as typical “respiratory droplets.” They measured how many of those polystyrene particles reached the second mannequin under various conditions: one mannequin masked, both masked, neither masked, at 3 feet and 6 feet. The smallest number of polystyrene particles got through when both mannequins wore masks, and it didn’t matter what kind of masks were used. In fact, with both mannequins masked, at a 6-foot distance fewer than 1/2 of 1% of the polystyrene particles got through to the second mannequin.
Sounds impressive, right? But this same experiment found that simply by being six feet apart, with no masks in sight, the number of particles that were received by the second mannequin was reduced by 97%. (At three feet, the European “social distancing” standard, it was reduced by 87%.) Further, the experiment was set up so that the first mannequin expelled the particles from its mouth in what appears to be a vigorous manner, straight at the second mannequin.
Do you know anyone who exhales like that, through the mouth with considerable energy? I don’t. Further, as the video shows, even when wearing a mask the particles float around the first mannequin’s head–much as, I think, they would if a person exhales normally, downward through the nose.
Mayo’s experiment convinces me that if someone with COVID is standing a few feet away from you and sneezes directly at you, it would be good if he were wearing a mask. Then, too, it would be good if he covered his mouth when he sneezes. Would that produce a droplet pattern much different from wearing a mask?
This experiment helps to explain, I think, why at the same time, public health officials exhort us to wear masks, while, in instance after instance, mask mandates make no perceptible difference in the spread of the coronavirus. Mask mania is driven by the human need to believe that we are “doing something,” along with the more modern need to believe that our government is “doing something.” It is beyond the pale to ask whether there is, in fact, much that any government can do about respiratory viruses.

The Trump Organization has been ordered to hand over financial documents relating to a New York property, following allegations that the president’s family and their associates inflated assets to gain millions in tax benefits.
A judge on the New York County State Supreme Court made the ruling on Tuesday, stipulating that the documents must be turned over by 18 December.
In a statement, the attorney general, who is investigating allegations of wrongdoing, said that “justice and the rule of law prevailed”, adding that the Trump Organization would be made to comply with the order.

Thus far in Florida, approximately 20,000 people have died of COVID-19. In Texas, the number stands around 24,000, and in New York, about 35,000.
New York is the smallest of the three, with 19.54 million residents. Then comes Florida, with 21.67 million, before Texas, with 28.7 million residents.
COVID numbers are difficult to trust. Cases are often counted more than once as patients go in and out of the hospital, and some deaths are attributed to COVID that are barely related, if at all.
There’s a perverse incentive to write down “COVID” and get state and federal money, no doubt, but one thing rings clear through all the din: despite larger populations, currently freer peoples, and a media narrative that screams otherwise, there are far, far fewer deaths in Texas and in Florida than in New York.

ebruary 27: Michael Cohen, President Donald J. Trump's former personal lawyer,... [+] J. SCOTT APPLEWHITE / AP
Yesterday, as part of his testimony to Congress, Michael Cohen revealed that, under the direction of President Trump, he had sent letters to Trump’s high schools, colleges and the College Board (creator of the SAT), threatening them with legal action and jail time if they ever released Trump’s academic records. Cohen provided a record of one such letter sent to the president of Fordham University, which Trump attended for two years before transferring to complete his undergraduate degree at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Trump’s high school has confirmed receiving an identical letter, while the University of Pennsylvania and the College Board declined to comment. It’s worth mentioning that letters like this are entirely unnecessary—under FERPA, disclosing academic records without the student’s written permission is pretty much the most illegal thing you can do with those records. Still, there are a few reasons why it makes sense that Trump would have been so concerned about his transcripts and standardized test scores being released.
1 — Trump Criticized Obama’s Academic Record, But His Is Similar
Trump and Obama actually had very similar undergraduate experiences. Both went to less-competitive but still prestigious schools (Fordham and Occidental) for their first two years, then transferred to and received their bachelor’s degrees from Ivy League schools (Columbia and Penn, respectively). Neither of them graduated with honors, although the way that many schools determine honors can often make it difficult for transfer students to receive them.

McConnell’s delay in recognizing Biden’s win has done ‘real damage’ to democracy, says John Dickerson
Jon Ward
Jon Ward·Senior Political Correspondent
Tue, December 15, 2020, 5:00 PM EST
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s long delay in recognizing President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the Nov. 3 election will have significant negative consequences for the country, said journalist John Dickerson.
Dickerson, a correspondent for “60 Minutes,” wrote a book on the presidency this year, titled “The Hardest Job in the World,” which looks at the history of and expectations for the office. Dickerson said America’s process for picking presidents is badly broken.
And on the day that McConnell, the Republican Senate majority leader, finally recognized Biden’s win, Dickerson told Yahoo News that the weeks of waiting for one of the most powerful figures in the GOP to do so has inflicted “real damage.”
“Allowing something that is not true to soak in for five weeks has an irrevocable cost. You can't unwind that,” Dickerson said an interview on “The Long Game,” a Yahoo News podcast. “Mitch McConnell saying that Joe Biden is the president-elect ... does not shorten the distance that the horse ... got out of the barn.
“It's just not going to undo the millions of people who now think the election was stolen,” he said. “And that undermines democracy going forward; it puts a lot of negative and dangerous energy in the political system, and it makes Donald Trump a constant player because he will be the wronged party. … It creates and embeds a distraction in the system going forward, and that doesn't help anybody.”

Report: Of the hundreds of people invited to Mike Pompeo's indoor holiday party, a few dozen showed up
Catherine Garcia
Wed, December 16, 2020, 12:04 AM EST
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo found out what happens when you send out 900 invitations to an indoor holiday party during a pandemic that has killed at least 300,000 Americans: not that many people show up.
The Tuesday event for the families of diplomats in high-risk locations was hosted by Pompeo and his wife, Susan, in Washington, D.C. As of Monday night, only about 70 people had accepted their invitations, and even fewer showed up, two U.S. officials with knowledge of the matter told The Washington Post. Pompeo had been scheduled to speak, but canceled his address and had someone else deliver a message in his place, the Post reports.
Government health officials have urged people not to attend indoor gatherings amid the pandemic, and several lawmakers and the American Foreign Service Association, a nonpartisan union representing diplomats, asked Pompeo to cancel the party over concerns it would be a super-spreader event. The State Department had said masks would be required and social distancing enforced; photos obtained by the Post show a masked Santa greeting children, with maskless people sitting down to eat around him.
One woman, the wife of a diplomat now overseas, told the Post she RSVPed no on her invitation over worries that if she became sick, there wouldn't be anyone to take care of her children. "It was a completely irresponsible party to throw," she said.
Another record week for just the flu.......
Mon, December 14, 2020, 3:18 PM EST
(Reuters) - The United States lost more than 17,000 people to COVID-19 last week, the largest number since the beginning of the global pandemic, with North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa reporting the most deaths per capita in the past seven days.
Even as the first Americans were given the newly approved Pfizer/BioNTech coronavirus vaccine on Monday, health officials warned that infections will continue to rise in the coming weeks as families gather for the holiday season.
Deaths increased 12% in the week ended Dec. 13 to a total of about 300,000 since the start of the outbreak, according to a Reuters analysis of state and county reports.
Thank God the masks work, 🤣
YOU CANNOT MAKE THIS STUFF UP
GOP Lawmaker Wants Trump to Declare Election Invalid
9:20 am
North Carolina State Sen. Bob Steinburg (R) called for President Trump to invoke the Insurrection Act and declare the results of the 2020 election invalid, The Hill reports.
Said Steinburg: “If that’s what needs to be done, if there are people who have been identified as folks who are suspected of high crimes and misdemeanors, who are threatening the very security and foundation of our nation…for whatever period of time it takes to round them up, then yes.”
TRUMP TELLS McCONNELL It’s Too Soon to ‘Give Up’
President Trump told Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in a tweet that it was too soon to “give up” after the Kentucky Republican conceded that President-elect Joe Biden won November’s election.
Said Trump: “Republican Party must finally learn to fight. People are angry!”
However, CNN reports a Trump fundraising email asks supporters if he should run again in 2024, which is essentially a concession.
McCONNELL TELLS TRUMP TO GO BLANK HIMSELF
As He Settles Into Role as Top Republican
8:30 am
“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is muscling out President Trump as the dominant day-to-day Republican powerbroker on Capitol Hill,” Axios reports.
“Trump’s power persists, and will live on post-presidency. But McConnell — in his cunningly quiet but methodical way — is flexing his authority. It’s a taste of a tension that will help define the next four years.”
McConnell Says New Relief Deal Is Close
7:50 am
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told CBS News that “we’re getting closer and closer” to a deal on a COVID economic relief bill.
Said McConnell: “We’re making significant progress and I’m optimistic that we’re going to be able to complete an understanding sometime soon.”
Misinformation Peddlers Shift Gears
8:45 am
Sidney Powell, a lawyer who was part of President Trump’s legal team, spread a conspiracy theory last month about election fraud. For days, she claimed that she would ‘release the Kraken’ by showing voluminous evidence that Mr. Trump had won the election by a landslide,” the New York Times reports.
“But after her assertions were widely derided and failed to gain legal traction, Ms. Powell started talking about a new topic. On Dec. 4, she posted a link on Twitter with misinformation that said that the population would be split into the vaccinated and the unvaccinated and that ‘big government’ could surveil those who were unvaccinated.
“Ms. Powell’s changing tune was part of a broader shift in online misinformation. As Mr. Trump’s challenges to the election’s results have been knocked down and the Electoral College has affirmed President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s win, voter fraud misinformation has subsided. Instead, peddlers of online falsehoods are ramping up lies about the Covid-19 vaccines, which were administered to Americans for the first time this week.”
Ron Johnson Gambles His Political Future on Trump
6:47 am
“Ron Johnson is linking himself to President Donald Trump’s election challenge as tightly as possible as he decides whether to run for reelection to a must-win Senate seat for Republicans,” Politico reports.
“Johnson, a steadfast Trump ally who has endeared himself to the president with his various investigative pursuits, is defending his approach, even as he faces a possible reelection campaign in a state that President-elect Joe Biden won in November. And Democrats are taking notice.”
Washington Post:
Ron Johnson could take his last stand Wednesday as Trump’s most stalwart Senate defender.
Trump Is Being Warned Not to Fire FBI Director
7:17 am
“President Trump has come so close to firing FBI Director Christopher Wray in recent months that the White House counsel’s office has warned him not to do so because it could put him in potential legal jeopardy,” NBC News reports.
“The lawyers, led by White House counsel Pat Cipollone, specifically said that firing Wray could spark legal issues similar to those raised after Trump ousted James Comey as FBI director in 2017 in the midst of the Russia investigation.
“Their concern was that firing Wray could be seen as retaliation because the president has publicly pressured him to take specific actions on certain investigations — such as announcing a probe into President-elect Joe Biden’s son — and then expressed frustration that Wray has not followed his suggestions.”
U.S. Negotiating with Pfizer for More Vaccine Doses
6:57 am
“The Trump administration is negotiating a deal to use its power to free up supplies of raw materials to help Pfizer produce tens of millions of additional doses of its Covid-19 vaccine for Americans in the first half of next year,” the New York Times reports.
“Should an agreement be struck, it could at least partially remedy a looming shortage that the administration itself arguably helped create by not pre-ordering more doses of the vaccine Pfizer developed with its German partner, BioNTech.”
Trump Appointees Describe the Crushing of the CDC
6:55 am
“Kyle McGowan, a former chief of staff at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and his deputy, Amanda Campbell, were installed in 2018 as two of the youngest political appointees in the history of the world’s premier public health agency, young Republicans returning to their native Georgia to dream jobs,” the New York Times reports.
“But what they witnessed during the coronavirus pandemic this year in the C.D.C.’s leadership suite on the 12-floor headquarters here shook them:
Washington’s dismissal of science, the White House’s slow suffocation of the agency’s voice, the meddling in its messages and the siphoning of its budget.
“In interviews this fall, the pair decided to go public with their disillusionment: what went wrong, and what they believe needs to be done as the agency girds for what could be a years long project of rebuilding its credibility externally while easing ill feelings and self-doubt internally.”
North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa are reporting the most deaths per capita in the past seven days.
These states are among the most noted for refusing to wear masks.
Sure. And?
Pelosi Covering the rioted cities in cash.
No checks for the working poor in her bill.
“Mitch, 75,000,000 VOTES, a record for a sitting President (by a lot),” Trump wrote in his retweet. “Too soon to give up. Republican Party must finally learn to fight. People are angry!”
(The President has about 74.2 million votes, not 75 million.)
North Carolina State Sen. Bob Steinburg (R) c

Math is hard on the Retarded.
President-elect Joe Biden’s incoming deputy chief of staff Jen O’Malley Dillon called Republicans lawmakers “a bunch of fuckers” in a new Glamour interview but insisted bipartisan cooperation was still possible.
Said O’Malley Dillon: “The president-elect was able to connect with people over this sense of unity. In the primary, people would mock him, like, ‘You think you can work with Republicans?’ I’m not saying they’re not a bunch of fuckers. Mitch McConnell is terrible.”
She added: “But this sense that you couldn’t wish for that, you couldn’t wish for this bipartisan ideal? He rejected that. From start to finish, he set out with this idea that unity was possible, that together we are stronger, that we, as a country, need healing, and our politics needs that too.”
Because those states have less dense populations, they could more easily practice social distancing and mask wearing, and thus not have the highest per capita rates of infection.
The stupidity of kputz is not getting better.
Covid live updates: FDA authorizes first at-home Covid test
could more easily practice social distancing and mask wearing,
Ya think?????? God help this country when the answers are so obvious to those whose eyes are open....unlike the slurpers who still think masks are useless and covid is just the flu!!!!!

Yeah? Suck it up, ya snowflakes! We're ridin' with Biden now, and you're gonna have to do without your favorite impeached president. Also, fu*k your feelings. ;-) kputz
For the first time since spring, U.S. retail sales have declined, raising questions about the strength of consumer spending and how retailers are faring in the all-important holiday shopping season.
Retail sales fell 1.1 percent in November as spending on categories like automobiles, electronic stores, clothing and restaurants and bars softened, according to a report from the Commerce Department on Wednesday.
Economists had expected a smaller decline amid robust holiday sales, driven by online spending. But the Commerce Department also revised its tally for October to a 0.1 percent decline, from an increase of 0.3 percent reported earlier.
The U.S. economy has slowed in recent months amid a surge in coronavirus cases and a steady increase in the ranks of the unemployed. Even as businesses have come under fresh pressure, lawmakers have yet to reach an agreement on a new stimulus package.
