Five states over 200 deaths and California with over 32,000 cases in one day
Let's be clear here folks. This does not (as some are suggesting) have anything to do with Thanksgiving day gatherings. I personally know of nobody who skirted the regulations on Thanksgiving gatherings (nobody on either side of my family had any get togethers above and beyond what was allowed). More to the point, pretty much every Friday and Saturday over the summer included exponentially more gatherings and such than we would have seen on Thanksgiving.
I would argue that at no point in time (other than the original March/April lockdowns) have we been more vigilant as a country about these restrictions and about safety. As stated previously there really isn't an uptick in any in person Christmas shopping, even as compared to shopping over this summer. In any other year, our malls and stores would be packed solid with people interacting (all without any mask wearing).
Lastly, the deaths we are seeing are from people who quite obviously contracted the virus well prior to Thanksgiving. If I didn't know better, I would suspect that the medical experts and politicians who prefer to maintain their control knew that things were going to get worse as the weather changed and preemptively put out the "
This is 99% weather and cold and flu season related. I suspect that regardless of what certain leaders are going to demand, that these numbers will continue to be heavy until Americans start to get the vaccine. Good thing that our "experts" were wrong and our "President" was correct in regards to whether or not we would have a vaccine before the end of 2020.

I am laughing at you Scott. Literally.
You really have a screw loose.
You used to praise Fauci and Birx so excessively. Now you are disagreeing with them, for both strongly advocate mask wearing for additional protection against the spreading of the virus.
You have become an absolute Trump toady.
In your world, an election is not a fair and legitimate election unless Trump SAYS it is.
But even Trump has reluctantly (and far too late after so many deaths) claimed he is for mask wearing, so you better get with it. Your Fuehrer has spoken.

Lawmaker Who Dined with Kristi Noem Tests Positive

South Dakota state Sen. Helene Duhamel (R), who earlier this week visited Gov. Kristi Noem’s (R) mansion for dinner, has tested positive for COVID-19, the Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports.
Every medical expert disagrees with the paper pusher who has an obsessive personality disorder

President-elect Biden will name former National Security Adviser Susan Rice to head the Domestic Policy Council, two people familiar with his plans tell Axios — a significant change from her previous roles that would put her in charge of major portions of his “Build Back Better” plan.
The surge is expected to get worse because of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
This increase was weather related, but by Sunday Funnies the daily death toll will top 3,500.
Since we cannot say specifically which interaction will transmit covid to us, it makes sense to minimize any interaction.
And no masks are not the be all solution. But they do help. So unpleasant as they are, they should be worn for now.

South Dakota Lawmaker Contracts COVID-19 After Pierre Trip
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A South Dakota state lawmaker has tested positive for the coronavirus days after visiting Gov. Kristi Noem’s mansion and attending the governor’s budget speech at the Legislature.
Sen. Helene Duhamel, a Republican from Rapid City, became ill and tested positive on Wednesday, the day after she was in Pierre meeting with lawmakers, the Argus Leader reported. Duhamel also attended a dinner on Monday night at the governor's residence and posed in a photo with Noem and other women lawmakers at the Capitol. None wore masks in the photo, which Noem posted on social media.
The governor's office told the Argus Leader that Noem did not come into close contact with the senator. Her office did not immediately return a request for when she was last tested for the virus.
Duhamel, 58, did not immediately return a request for comment. She is also the public information officer for the Pennington County Sheriff's Department.
The Legislature is scheduled to convene on Jan. 12. Several lawmakers have reported bouts with the coronavirus, including Rep. Bob Glanzer, who was among the first in the state to die from the virus in April.

Bengazi was not debunked by anyone. That knee-jerk response doesn't fly.
I know this has always been difficult for you to understand, Reverend...
But I follow the facts and the obvious science involved. Not opinions.
The fact is that we are in the "cold and flu" season and the medical professionals I personally know and trust have predicted that we would see a significant rise in cases (regardless what other mandates and regulations we put in place).
This is also the "science" that applies to historical data regarding coronavirus (which includes both Covid-19 and the common cold). We always have historically had an increase in the number of colds, flu, etc... and there was NEVER any manners in which we have been able to combat or revers that trend.
So while certain politicians (and to be clear, Fauci became an obvious politician first and doctor second quite a while ago) want to demand that everything happening now is the fault of "irresponsible people" and that if we all listened to them that their brilliant ideas and suggestions will stop cold and flu season in it's tracks.
Turns out that those who are on the "we can solve this" team are objectively "WRONG" and that those who predicted that we would see a massive uptick in cases come cold and flu season (regardless of actions) are objectively "CORRECT".
The sad part about all of this is that those who said we were not going to be able to prevent a huge rise in cases come cold and flu seasons are not really able to offer any "solutions". They were just offering a warning. The fact is that they offer no "solutions" because there just may not be one in this case. Sometimes "mother nature" is just a bit too powerful for "man" to overcome.
This seems to be the major issue between many people. Those who want to hang on to the idea that this is all "under our control" if we just listened to the Governors as they tell us to do more of the same that hasn't worked so far. These are the ones who continuously want to blame others for what is happened. Which becomes all the more "silly" when they blame people based on their political party for a "virus" that couldn't care less who you voted for.
More to the point... as we have been hearing more and more about prominent people catching the virus, sports figures catching the virus, celebrities catching the virus, politicians catching the virus, and so forth...
a dominating theme has come forth as more and more of these people demand that they were following all of the protocols and restrictions, wearing their masks, social distancing, etc, etc... and still caught the virus.
Now obviously people who think like you are sure that they are lying because nobody catches the virus if they are following the rules.
Expect that pretty much every study has shown that mask wearing has either no or very minimal effect, and that the science surrounding social distancing or even excessive hand washing is murky at best. All of this can only do so much, and unless everyone went into total isolation and never comes out to interact with anyone, these viruses will spread.

The dominating thing Lil Schitty is that Covid is extremely contagious and one moment of not being cautious can be dangerous.... BTW.....3 k killed yesterday by the trump flu......
Cali, are you really so "stupid an ass" (to quote you) as to be incapable of seeing that the whole point of the article was that she dined WITH the governor and others, and posed maskless, and now there is the possibility that others and possibly the governor herself have been infected?
She had even earlier been present at other gatherings in Washington, DC and could have picked the virus up there.
DUH!
conservative fragility
They attempt to rationalize away the uncomfortable facts about the effectiveness of masks.
“The models were wrong.” “Here are the true studies.” “Don’t believe anyone who says masks work.” “Don’t worry about actually doing anything to help the situation.”
It’s like a white guy who attended the Ivy Leagues as a legacy and got his first job thanks to his father’s business contacts yelling about the unfairness of affirmative action. Don’t believe people when they talk about systemic racism. They’re just wrong. Here’s the ‘truth.’ No change needed here.
The rationalization continues. COVID-19 isn’t actually dangerous; it’s just media hype. We’re being intimidated. Masks don’t work, and people don’t even wear them right, so why wear them at all? Described Scott asshole!
Rejecting uncomfortable truths as “media hype” is one of the favorite “go-to” moves of conservative fragility.
For decades, Fox News has waged war against the rest of the media, depicting itself as the “fair and balanced” savior who presents the “real story” that the dangerous liberal media won’t tell. Conservative politicians ran with that narrative since it suited their interests and put them in Fox’s good graces. No wonder so many conservatives today quickly dismiss information they dislike as a fabrication of the “lying, liberal” media.
This defensive move even outweighs other, arguably more important features of one’s identity. I argued for wearing masks out of “love for one’s neighbor” (see above) because I knew my relative identifies as a Christian. I also reminded the relative that my spouse has a compromised immune system.
Yet there are too many “inconsistencies” and too little evidence “masks were making a difference”
science surrounding social distancing or even excessive hand washing is murky at best.
Is total bullshit.
Your libertarian views skew your mind, and science is a liberal scheme to impose restrictions, even if your actions endanger others! If you are unsympathetic, but you are infected, you pose a danger of others.
You are not allowed to drive 150 mph! Because you put others at risk.
Scott, you don't have the right to endanger others because of your libertarian ideology

Well technically you don't know when or where someone caught the disease. This is a guess and not scientific.
but either way...
This is what is called "anecdotal evidence" in both cases....
I can offer all sorts of anecdotal evidence that people who are following the guidelines and catching the disease.
You can offer all sorts of anecdotal evidence that people who are not following the guidelines and catching the disease.
You know what proves?
That both people who follow protocol and those who do not are catching the virus? Guess what? That proves out the same thing as the studies show. That approximately 3% (2.9%) of those who are wearing masks catch the virus and approximately 3% (3.2%) of those not wearing masks catch the virus. That is the science.
Of course... I brought up a study that involves numbers and statistics and such... this confuses Roger, Reverend, and Denny... and will likely make them reference the "bad orange man" somehow.
Scott, you can rant away all you want, but you can't get away with trying to hide the fact that Fauci and Birx have been far more right than wrong about the science of how to deal with this virus, and have been FAR, FAR more right than you have been.
Fauci long ago warned that to shut things down and then later to open up too quickly only to have to shut down again would ultimately do more harm both to people's health and to the economy than to go more slowly. And he was entirely right: That is exactly what has happened all across our country.
He and Birx also managed to keep Trump from packing the churches at Easter by finally getting it through his thick skull that that would have caused an IMMENSE disaster. They accomplished that only by loading him down with so much information that even he realized that he would be in serious trouble if he followed through on that, and it backfired, as it surely would have.
You are just upset, Scott, because your own attempts from the very first to play down the virus as if it were nothing more than another version of the flu and thus should not overly concern us, have proved as wrong-headed as have Trump's attempts to do the same.
Fauci and Birx continue to insist that hand washing, social distancing, various degrees of shutting down, and mask wearing are pretty much the only things we can do to slow the spread of this virus while we wait for the day when we will finally get real relief by being able widely to administer an effective and proven vaccine.
But you just keep raging on.

Deborah Birx Seeks Role In Biden Government
December 10, 2020 at 7:45 am EST By Taegan Goddard
“When Dr. Deborah Birx was brought into President Donald Trump’s orbit to help fight the coronavirus pandemic, she had a sterling reputation as a former U.S. Army physician, a globally recognized AIDS researcher and a rare Obama administration holdover,” the AP reports.
“Less than 10 months later, as Trump’s time in office nears its end, the White House coronavirus task force coordinator’s reputation is frayed. And after serving every president since Ronald Reagan, her future in the incoming Joe Biden administration is uncertain.
“Birx has made clear that she wants to stick around to help the Biden administration roll out vaccines and persuade the American people to be inoculated. She has reached out to Biden advisers in recent days as she tries to make the case for a role in the incoming Democratic president’s virus response effort.”
_______
I hope she will be accepted. She let herself become too associated with Trump at one point, and even seemed somewhat sycophantic, but she always held back from going too far in backing him up.

Well I believe that within their expertise they have gotten some stuff correct. They were correct when they:
- Supported models that said we would see approximately 60,000 overall casualties
- Supported models that said we would see approximately 120,000 overall casualties
- Fauci was correct when he put the number between 100-200K
- Fauci was correct when he said masks don't work.
- Fauci was correct when he said masks do work.
- Fauci was correct when he said hydroxychloroquine was not effective in spite of being an scientific epidemiologist rather than a doctor who treats people.
- Fauci was correct when he said that cruises and other gatherings were fine.
- Fauci was correct when he compared Covid-19 to a bad flu.
Lastly Fauci was really right when he told us that we should not rely on models!

Even if the masking doesn't provide 100 effective they should still be used because they will save lives.
- Mask wearing is approximately 97% effective.
- Not wearing a mask is approximately 97% effective.
The difference according to the data accumulated in studies (which is commonly referred to as "science") is so small that it is considered "statistically insignificant".
The claim that masks saves lives is not really scientifically proven. In fact, all the actual scientific evidence (completely data studies) suggests that there is no practical difference.
Here is a reality for you genius.
If there is no evidence that masks work.
Then they cannot be "saving lives" just because someone says so.
Who the hell is at the CDC today? I had to take a huge detour
Joe Bosso:
“Here are the 17 states we must boycott. Don't visit them. Don't give them one dime of tourism cash. Fuck 'em.
Missouri, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah and West Virginia.”
Not wearing a mask is approximately 97% effective.
Is a fucking lie!
What evidence do we have that wearing a mask is effective in preventing COVID-19?
There are several strands of evidence supporting the efficacy of masks.
One category of evidence comes from laboratory studies of respiratory droplets and the ability of various masks to block them. An experiment using high-speed video found that hundreds of droplets ranging from 20 to 500 micrometers were generated when saying a simple phrase, but that nearly all these droplets were blocked when the mouth was covered by a damp washcloth. Another study of people who had influenza or the common cold found that wearing a surgical mask significantly reduced the amount of these respiratory viruses emitted in droplets and aerosols.
But the strongest evidence in favor of masks come from studies of real-world scenarios. “The most important thing are the epidemiologic data,” said Rutherford. Because it would be unethical to assign people to not wear a mask during a pandemic, the epidemiological evidence has come from so-called “experiments of nature.”
A recent study published in Health Affairs, for example, compared the COVID-19 growth rate before and after mask mandates in 15 states and the District of Columbia. It found that mask mandates led to a slowdown in daily COVID-19 growth rate, which became more apparent over time. The first five days after a mandate, the daily growth rate slowed by 0.9 percentage-points compared to the five days prior to the mandate; at three weeks, the daily growth rate had slowed by 2 percentage-points.
Another study looked at coronavirus deaths across 198 countries and found that those with cultural norms or government policies favoring mask-wearing had lower death rates.
Two compelling case reports also suggest that masks can prevent transmission in high-risk scenarios, said Chin-Hong and Rutherford. In one case, a man flew from China to Toronto and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. He had a dry cough and wore a mask on the flight, and all 25 people closest to him on the flight tested negative for COVID-19. In another case, in late May, two hair stylists in Missouri had close contact with 140 clients while sick with COVID-19. Everyone wore a mask and none of the clients tested positive.
Do masks protect the people wearing them or the people around them?
“I think there’s enough evidence to say that the best benefit is for people who have COVID-19 to protect them from giving COVID-19 to other people, but you’re still going to get a benefit from wearing a mask if you don’t have COVID-19,” said Chin-Hong.
Masks may be more effective as a “source control” because they can prevent larger expelled droplets from evaporating into smaller droplets that can travel farther.
Another factor to remember, noted Rutherford, is that you could still catch the virus through the membranes in your eyes, a risk that masking does not eliminate.
How many people need to wear masks to reduce community transmission?
“What you want is 100 percent of people to wear masks, but you’ll settle for 80 percent,” said Rutherford. In one simulation, researchers predicted that 80 percent of the population wearing masks would do more to reduce COVID-19 spread than a strict lockdown.
The latest forecast from the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation suggests that 33,000 deaths could be avoided by October 1 if 95 percent of people wore masks in public.
Even if you live in a community where few people wear masks, you would still reduce your own chances of catching the virus by wearing one, said Chin-Hong and Rutherford
STUDY RESULTS
EFFECTS OF MANDATES FOR FACE COVERING IN PUBLIC
Exhibit 1 plots the event study estimates of effects of state mandates for community face covering in public on the county-level daily growth rate of COVID-19 cases, with 95 percent confidence intervals, obtained from the main regression model (in appendix B),19 using county-level daily data from March 31 through May22; appendix exhibit C1 (column 1) reports the exact estimates. The effects are shown over the course of five periods after signing the orders, relative to the five days before signing (which is the reference period). Also shown are estimated differences in daily COVID-19 growth rates between states with and without the mandates over the course of three periods before the reference period.

SOURCE Authors’ analysis of US county-level COVID-19 case data between March 31 and May 22, 2020. NOTES Event study estimates (dots) and 95% confidence intervals (bars) of the effects of states mandating community use of face covers or masks when people are in public on the county-level daily growth rate of COVID-19 cases over different periods before and after the mandate order was signed. The reference period was the first five days before the mandate order was signed. The model controlled for major COVID-19 mitigation policies as time-varying (closure of K–12 schools, county-level or statewide shelter-in-place orders, nonessential business closure, closure of restaurants for dining in, closure of gyms or movie theaters), COVID-19 tests per 100,000 people, county fixed effects, and day fixed effects. The model was estimated by least squares weighted by the county 2019 population, and the standard errors were robust to heteroscedasticity and clustered at the state level.
There was a significant decline in daily COVID-19 growth rate after the mandating of face covers in public, with the effect increasing over time after the orders were signed. Specifically, the daily case rate declined by 0.9, 1.1, 1.4, 1.7, and 2.0 percentage points within 1–5, 6–10, 11–15, 16–20, and 21 or more days after signing, respectively. All of these declines were statistically significant (p<0.05 or less). In contrast, the pre-event trends in COVID-19 case growth rates were small and statistically insignificant.
We also projected the number of averted COVID-19 cases with the mandates for face mask use in public by comparing actual cumulative daily cases with daily cases predicted by the model if none of the states had enacted the public face cover mandate at the time they did (see details in appendix B).19 The main model estimates suggested that because of these mandates, 230,000–450,000 cases may have been averted by May 22. Estimates of averted cases should be viewed cautiously and only as general approximations.

Scott, all you have to do is google "What is the scientific evidence regarding wearing masks to slow the spread of Covid-19?"
You will get a plethora of articles to consider, all of them claiming to supply scientific evidence one way or the other.
I find those most convincing which state that, strictly considered and using the best scientific evidence available to us, mask wearing contributes to slowing the spread of the virus.

Sadly, this is too much like climate change. People decide 'scientific' is what they WANT to hear. Yet I would be GLAD to receive convincing evidence that I could safely stop wearing a mask. So far I have not.

Ron Brownstein:
“Republicans’ tolerance, if not active support, for President Trump’s ongoing bid to overturn the 2020 election has crystallized a stark question:
Does the GOP still qualify as a small-d democratic party—or is it morphing into something very different?
“Even with the Supreme Court still deciding whether to consider a last-ditch legal effort to invalidate the results from the key swing states,
there appears little chance that Trump will succeed in subverting Joe Biden’s victory.
But Trump’s failure on that front has obscured his success at enlisting a growing swath of his party to join his cause—a dynamic that is already
prompting new Republican efforts

and raising concerns about the party’s commitment to the basic tenets of Western democratic rules and conventions,
including the peaceful transfer of power.
“Republicans’ widespread enlistment in Trump’s efforts follows years in which

*engaged in extraordinary legislative maneuvering to deny former President Barack Obama the opportunity to fill a vacant U.S. Supreme Court seat;

A new Quinnipiac poll finds 60% of voters say they think President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election is legitimate
and 34% think his win is not.
“There are large partisan gaps.
Democrats say 98% to 2 % they think Biden’s election victory is legitimate and
independents say 62 % to 30% his victory is legitimate.
Republicans, however,
say 70% to 23% that they think Biden’s victory is not legitimate.”
Keep that up, and Dems can count on large victories on into the future.
Pedo I’m still trying to find info on that SD state senator traipsing around DC sans mask as you claim.
DUH!
Scott, all you have to do is google "What is the scientific evidence regarding wearing masks to slow the spread of Covid-19?"
I just did a Bing search for "Democrats are stupid" and got 66.8 million hits. I guess that must prove that "Democrats are stupid" because internet searches will never steer us wrong?
Good thing that is settled. You must be stupid because the internet says so!
But here is the question, Reverend. How many of those google search hits regarding "scientific evidence" will present hard scientific experiment data that conflicts with the numerous real life studies conducted that continue to show mask wearing either doesn't help or has only a marginal affect.
Seriously... we are probably talking about the very first health item ever in existence where a decision was made by those in charge to "remove" a disclaimer.
"these masks are not intended to stop the spread of viruses".
A disclaimer removed so we can convince everyone that they actually "do" stop the spread of viruses. Bottom line: unless you are wearing a medical grade n-95 mask, these other paper or cloth masks are not even designed for this use.
Wow Lil Schittyl.......swinging for the dumbo fences with a convincing argument that you are a brain damaged trump loser!!!!! Please.....don't wear a mask and hang out with your idiot buddies in close quarters and have another cocktail!!!!!! I didn't need to do a search to know 74 million americans are stupid enough to vote for trump in spite of the warning signs......BWAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!
Damn Covid cure the flu
BREAKING - San Diego County data for FLU infections shows **only 36 cases** so far this year. In a typical year we get over 17,073 on average!
Once again, I'm calling for a full audit of the Covid-19 data we are seeing reported from our public health system.
Masks Could Help Stop Coronavirus.
So Why Are They Still Controversial?Confusing government advice at the start of the pandemic and cultural misgivings may have limited acceptance. aka Thecoldheartedtruth
As countries begin to reopen their economies, face masks, an essential tool for slowing the spread of coronavirus, are struggling to gain acceptance in the West. One culprit: Governments and their scientific advisers.
Researchers and politicians who advocate simple cloth or paper masks as cheap and effective protection against the spread of Covid-19, say the early cacophony in official advice over their use—as well as deeper cultural factors—has hampered masks’ general adoption.
There is widespread scientific and medical consensus that face masks are a key part of the public policy response for tackling the pandemic. medical experts say even handmade or cheap surgical masks can block the droplets emitted by speaking, coughing and sneezing, making it harder for an infected wearer to spread the virus.
Although many European countries and U.S. states have made masks mandatory in shops or on public transport, studies show that people are reluctant to wear them unless they have to.
Surveys have found that the willingness to wear masks in these regions has plateaued and in some cases begun to decline, and adoption remains
Northern European countries’ residents seem more resistant to wearing them than their Mediterranean neighbors, who have been hit harder by the pandemic. In Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland, fewer than 10% of people said they wear a mask regularly, according to surveys published between February and late May by YouGov PLC.
In the U.S., questions over wearing face masks have fueled heated political debates. The chief health officer in Orange County, Calif., recently resigned after receiving death threats for ordering mask-wearing outside.
Male vanity also appears to be a powerful factor in rejecting masks. A study by Middlesex University London, U.K., and the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley, Calif., found that more men than women agreed that wearing a mask is “shameful, not cool, a sign of weakness, and a stigma.”

The COVID numbers are largely an under estimate of how many people have caught it, when we look at excess deaths. What you'll find is that the COVID data is correct. So why waste everyone's time with this?
