Miller-Meeks will be sworn in... for now!

Pelosi to seat Iowa Republican as Democratic challenger contests election results
A spokesperson for Pelosi said in a follow-up statement that the speaker will seat Miller-Meeks “provisionally” and that she will ultimately take into account a review by the Committee on House Administration.
“Every vote counts and that’s why the Committee on House Administration is conducting a thorough and fair review of this election to make sure every vote was counted and counted as cast. Pending the outcome of the Committee’s review and consistent with House practice, we intend to provisionally seat the Republican candidate on Sunday,” said Drew Hammill, the spokesperson.

So provisionally is the key word here. Some people are confused that this means Pelosi is rejecting the Hart plea, but that is not actually what it means. But then, some people are just confused a lot.

The rhetoric from the Pelosi spokesperson suggests that they are still looking to possibly overturn the results of the election (or at least try). If there is an election phrase that has been overused and means something other than what it states, it is Democrats suggesting that "every vote must be counted" or that we must "count every vote". Generally that is simply a code for some sort of legal challenge or some concept that their candidate would have won if not for some silly voter laws, voter suppression, or the mundane idea that the other candidate got the most legal votes.

The issue at this point is that there are at least a few Democrats who are currently stating anonymously as being against any attempt to overturn the certified election, believing that what could go around could come around. In fact, there are even one or two on record. I read a quote from an actual Democrat in the House who seemed to believe that winning an election within the confines of the state law was actually important. Go figure.

So ultimately this might not go anywhere if Pelosi does not have the solid votes to overturn. With a very thin majority and a tough 2022 coming up, it may end up that this will not amount to anything. I was possibly thinking that challenge might be heard and voted on before the new session was in play, giving some outgoing members a chance to lash out before being replaced. But with the new smaller majority (and three Democrats leaving their seats vacant to join the Biden administration) there may not be the support needed. Without those three seats, they go from 222 seats to 219 seats versus 211 or 212 if you could Miller-Meeks who may actually be allowed to vote on her own race? Either way they have a very low tolerance for defectors. As few as four or five Democrats with integrity would be all that is needed to stop the coup.

So many wasted words about so little.

---Simply put, Pelosi is being nice (decent) to seat this person, recognizing that so far the person is winning. However, there is a process still going on, not an attempt, as you put it, to "overturn" the election, but IF that process should prove that the Republican candidate did NOT, after all, receive the majority of votes, then an adjustment would have to be made--and ONLY then.

So simple. So fair. So decent. So nice.

I guess you could argue that a process is still going on regarding Biden, although must people, including many Republicans, consider the process to have run its course, and the result to be clear.

It would seem you actually do not understand the difference between the opinions of "other people" and the my opinions. As if you are dumb enough to believe that "every conservative" believes the exact same thing or that everyone must be in agreement with every Trump tweet or Trump statement?

Tell me you understand the difference?

No, you just tell us repeatedly that Trump has "every right to contest the election," even to the point where it makes him look preposterous and raises disturbing doubts in the minds of the world as to whether we really are a democracy.

Meanwhile, so many Republican leaders are afraid to say, Enough! You lost!

Well Reverend...

We have election challenges available for a reason. To suggest that someone doesn't have the "right" to make legal election challenges seems to be a little tyrannical. Every election won by a Republican going back to 2000 have been challenged. Every one. At least one state was recounted or otherwise brought to court.

The fact that he has that right is not a matter of opinion, but a fundamental matter of fact. We can agree or disagree on whether it's a good or bad thing (I personally believe that there "was" a time to pursue things that is long gone and challenges at this point are well beyond the shelf life - but that is just "my" opinion - which is trumped by the laws of the land).

The reality is that we spent close to three years of whiny liberal ass crybaby attempts to chalk up a legitimate election loss to "Russian collusion". Which I am pretty sure you were more than supportive of, even if the final conclusions were that there was no evidence of collusion, nor evidence of any election fraud.

So the fact that I respect the law and respect someone's right to make legal challenges within that law... doesn't mean that I agree with the challenges and it certainly doesn't show that I believed that he would win any of them. I think I have been MORE THAN CLEAR from the beginning that these challenges were basically hail Mary attempts.

Dawn Wells, the actress who played Mary Ann on the CBS sitcom “Gilligan’s Island,” died Wednesday at the age of 82 in Los Angeles due to COVID-19.

Her death was announced by her publicist Harlan Boll, Variety reports. She is survived by her stepsister Weslee Wells.

Wells was a native of Reno, reports Variety, and represented Nevada in the 1959 Miss America pageant before embarking on a long television career.

She played the character of Mary Ann Summers on “Gilligan’s Island” from 1964 to 1967. With Wells's passing, fellow "Gilligan's Island" co-star Tina Louise is the last remaining main cast member of the show.

Variety notes that apart from her acting work, she was also a producer on several TV movies such as “Surviving Gilligan’s Island” and “Return to the Bat Cave."

Several people in the entertainment industry expressed their sadness at Wells's death online.

"It was such a thrill for me to meet Dawn Wells when she came to see Two and a Half Men. She could not have been more lovely and gracious," actor Jon Cryer wrote.

Actress Erin Murphy, who played Tabitha Stephens on "Bewitched" wrote: "Absolutely devastated to share the news that my lifelong friend, Dawn Wells, has passed away. She was feisty, funny, talented and beautiful."

She was the first woman who excited me!

1/06/21: Republicans must choose between Trump and Democracy. McConnell is not happy.

Missouri Senator John Hawley has announced his intention to challenge Biden Electors when Congress meets on 1/06/20 to certify the 2020 Election results.

While Hawley’s challenge has ZERO chance of preventing Joe Biden from becoming President, Hawley’s actions will cement him as a hero to Trump Supporters, and guarantee him their support in future elections.

Democrats are outwardly expressing outrage over this challenge, but inwardly, they are laughing their asses off. They know that this is NOT want Mitch McConnell wanted, because this action will force every member of Congress, and every member of the Senate to decide between Donald Trump, and American Democracy.

Every Democrat will vote in favor of Democracy, however, every Republican will know that Donald Trump will be watching how they vote. Every Republican who puts American Democracy ahead of Donald Trump, will face the consequences. They will be on Trump’s shit list, and they will have a difficult time winning a Republican Primary without the support of Trump’s supporters.

I would like to thank Senator Josh Hawley for putting every Republican in this position. I believe it is important for every American to know which Members of the Senate, and which Members of Congress support American Democracy.

On January 6, 2020 we will have a complete list.

“Following both the 2004 and 2016 elections, Democrats in Congress objected during the certification of electoral votes in order to raise concerns about election integrity. They were praised by Democratic leadership and the media when they did. And they were entitled to do so. But now those of us concerned about the integrity of this election are entitled to do the same,” Hawley said in a statement released on Twitter.

Hunter Biden Email Reportedly Names Kamala Harris, Others as Key Contacts for ‘Joint Venture’ With China Energy Co.

“I cannot vote to certify the electoral college results on January 6 without raising the fact that some states, particularly Pennsylvania, failed to follow their own state election laws,” Hawley’s statement continued. “And I cannot vote to certify without pointing out the unprecedented effort of mega corporations, including Facebook and Twitter, to interfere in this election, in support of Joe Biden. At the very least, Congress should investigate allegations of voter fraud and adopt measures to secure the integrity of our elections.”

Facebook and Twitter’s suppression of the Hunter Biden stories, which connect him and Joe Biden financially to corporations with deep ties to China’s totalitarian communist government, certainly impacted the election negatively for Trump. A majority of Americans believe the tech giants and mainstream media buried those stories to help Biden according to one poll. Many early voters evidently wanted to change their Biden votes once those stories and Biden’s sex scandal broke, but were unable to. Another study, by the Media Research Center, found that about 17% of Biden voters would have changed their votes had they heard about the Hunter Biden connections to China and Ukraine.

America’s Vaccine Rollout Is Already a Disaster
9:14 pm
David Wallace-Wells:
“It’s happening all over again. For months, Americans who despaired about the country’s coronavirus-suppression efforts looked desperately to the arrival of a vaccine for a kind of pandemic deliverance. Now that it has arrived, miraculously fast, we are failing utterly to administer it with anything like the urgency the pace of dying requires — and, perhaps most maddeningly, failing in precisely the same way as we did earlier in the year. That is, out of apparent, near-total indifference.”

New York Times: “A more contagious version of the coronavirus may alter the course of the pandemic in the United States, researchers said.”

THIS.....
This is from Steve Schmidt, a co-founder of The Lincoln Project:

"No, Biden’s rallies weren’t bigger. No, you didn’t see many Biden flags on houses or Biden bumper stickers on cars. No, you don’t know a single person on your street or at your church who supports Biden. But guess what? We’re here.
Biden’s rallies were small because people who live in reality don’t want to expose themselves to the virus you continue to downplay or deny. We don’t fly Biden flags because we don’t want our houses burned down. We don’t put Biden bumper stickers on our cars because we want to avoid becoming targets for road rage. We don’t trust you. We’ve decided to minimize our interactions with people who cannot be reasoned with. This is for our own safety.
In private groups - where you’re not invited - we share our bewilderment of your descent into madness. We all have stories about how we’ve cut ties with you, our family and former friends, because we don’t want your hatred poisoning our social media streams. We can’t stand to listen to you vomiting the lies of your cult, day after day. You used to be different. We liked you. But now that we know what was inside your heart all along, we’ve decided you don’t deserve to know about our lives.
We’ll skip family reunions, even after we get the vaccine. We’ll make up some excuse just to be polite. But in reality, we just don’t feel like sitting around eating potato salad and making small talk with people who have such monstrous beliefs.
To all the brothers and aunts and cousins and dads and neighbors out there who just can’t wrap their heads around what this means going forward, know that these scars aren’t going away anytime soon. We won’t be reaching out, and we won’t be mending fences. It’s not up to us to apologize for the wounds you have gleefully inflicted upon us and our friends. You poured the gasoline, you lit the match. You burned this to the ground.
So if we seem different from now on, I guess we are, in a way. We’ve seen your truth laid bare, and we’re horrified.
I hope Trump was worth it."

Republicans should be embarrassed by Mr. Trump’s Electoral College hustle. Mr. Trump is putting his loyal VP in a terrible spot, and what do Republicans think would happen if Mr. Pence pulled the trigger, Mr. Biden was denied 270 electoral votes, and the House chose Mr. Trump as President? Riots in the streets would be the least of it.

Mr. Pence is too much of a patriot to go along, but the scramble to overturn the will of the voters tarnishes Mr. Trump’s legacy and undermines any designs he has on running in 2024. Republicans who humor him will be giving Democrats license to do the same in the future, and then it might matter.
