Apparently liberals believe that liberal politicians are reopening because things are getting better?

I guess it's better than the truth, huh? That liberal politicians are hypocrites who are now concerned with the economy because we have a new President?

(Keep in mind that we were shut down through most of the spring and summer months)

The Senate confirmed Antony Blinken to be President Biden’s Secretary of State, the fourth in the line of succession to the presidency, who Biden has tasked with leading the effort to bring the U.S. back to the global stage and rebuild alliances that suffered under the Trump administration.

The Senate voted 78-22 for Blinken’s confirmation, making him the 71st secretary of State and the fourth member of Biden’s Cabinet to be confirmed.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen was confirmed on Monday while Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines were confirmed last week.

Instead of being an angry man who hates liberals. Figure out how to get rid of Trump.

If his supporters block the economic recovery plan, despite your different views, millions more Americans will suffer and die alone.

Free trade was a Republican philosophy since Eisenhower. Reagan was too.

I have some problems with it, but Biden has written an executive order requiring the government must buy everything made in the United States.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden appeared to boost his goal for coronavirus vaccinations in his first 100 days in office, suggesting the nation could soon be injecting 1.5 million shots on an average per day.

Biden signaled on Monday his increasing bullishness on the pace of vaccinations after signing an executive order to boost government purchases from U.S. manufacturers. It was among a flurry of moves by Biden during his first full week to show he’s taking swift action to heal an ailing economy as talks with Congress over a $1.9 trillion relief package showed few signs of progress.

Biden reiterated that he believes the country is in a precarious spot and and that relief is urgently needed, even as he dismissed the possibility of embracing a scaled-down bill to secure passage faster. Among the features of the stimulus plan are a national vaccination program, aid to reopen schools, direct payments of $1,400 to individuals and financial relief for state and local governments.

“Time is of the essence,” Biden said. “I am reluctant to cherry-pick and take out one or two items here.”

Youtube video thumbnail
Biden’s new vaccination target comes after he and his aides faced criticism for the 100 million goal in his first 100 days in office. The U.S. has exceeded a pace of 1 million doses per day over the last week.

“I think we may be able to get that to ... 1.5 million a day, rather than 1 million a day,” Biden said, “but we have to meet that goal of a million a day.”

Biden added that he expects widespread availability of the vaccines for Americans by spring, with the U.S. “well on our way to herd immunity” necessary to end the pandemic by summer. Even so, he warned the nation was going to be “in this for a while, and could see between “600,000 and 660,000 deaths before we begin to turn the corner in a major way.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) voted in favor of a resolution declaring the impeachment trial of former President Trump “unconstitutional” on Tuesday.

The point of order resolution was put forward by McConnell’s colleague from Kentucky, Rand Paul, and effectively forced Republicans to declare on the record whether they consider the impeachment trial constitutional, given that it’s taking place after Trump has left office. The resolution failed after a majority of senators voted against it, meaning the impeachment trial will go ahead as planned.

However, only five Republicans voted against the resolution: Mitt Romney of Utah, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine, Ben Sasse of Nebraska, and Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania. At the close of the impeachment trial itself, at least 17 Republican senators would need to join Democrats in order to convict Trump.

Republicans Vote En Masse Against Trying Trump

“Republicans rallied en masse on Tuesday against trying former President Donald Trump for ‘incitement of insurrection,’ with only five members of his party joining Democrats in voting to go forward with the impeachment trial for his role stirring up a mob that attacked the Capitol,” the New York Times reports.

“In a 55 to 45 vote that strongly suggested that the Senate does not have the votes to convict the former president, senators narrowly killed a Republican effort to dismiss the impeachment charge as unconstitutional. The opposition of all but a handful of Republicans underscored Mr. Trump’s continued strength in the party even after his brazen campaign to overturn his election defeat, fueled by false claims of voting fraud, and he left office with his party relegated to the minority in both houses of Congress.”

In a national ABC News/Washington Post poll, two out of every three (68 percent) Americans approved of the Biden transition. This grade was much higher than the score for Trump’s transition four years earlier.

The public also approved of the new president’s early actions against the pandemic according to an ABC News/Ipsos survey conducted on his third and fourth days in office. Seven in 10 (69 percent) Americans approved of his response to the coronavirus crisis. Even four out of 10 (40 percent) Republicans supported his action against the dreaded disease.

The Biden administration said Tuesday it will seek to buy another 200 million doses of the two coronavirus vaccines that have been authorized for emergency use in the United States.
The purchases would increase available supply by 50 percent, bringing the total to 600 million doses by this summer.
Because both products — one developed by Pfizer and German company BioNTech and the other by Moderna — are two-dose regimens, that would be enough to fully vaccinate 300 million people.
An estimated 260 million people in the United States are currently considered eligible to receive a coronavirus vaccine, though Pfizer and Moderna have initiated trials for children as young as 12, the results of which could expand the pool.

The additional supply would greatly boost President Biden’s chances of returning the nation to some semblance of normalcy by late summer or the fall. He said Monday he expects the general public to gain access to shots by the spring — as he seemed to elevate his administration’s goal from 1 million vaccinations a day to 1.5 million — though aides on Tuesday said that was aspirational.

HOORAY for a President of greater competency
and for an America of greater unity!

By the way, I don’t think you can impeach an ex-President anyway. The only remedies in impeachment are removal from office and disqualification to hold positions of “trust or profit.” The disqualification vote can’t take place until after the removal, and you can’t “remove” someone from an office they don’t hold. (Also, the offices from which disqualification disqualifies people aren’t elective offices, but appointed ones, something on which Josh Blackman and Seth Barrett Tillman have managed to change my mind).

Fact Sheet: President Biden Announces New Steps to Boost Vaccine Supply and Increase Transparency for States, Tribes, and Territories

JANUARY 26, 2021 • STATEMENTS AND RELEASES

Administration to Purchase Additional 200 Million Doses to Be Delivered This Summer

Just over a year since the first COVID-19 case was confirmed in the United States, the nation has hit another grim milestone in the pandemic, reaching 25 million infections and counting. The pace in which this virus has spread throughout the U.S. is staggering and with new variants emerging, the spread is not slowing any time soon. That’s why it is critical that we vaccinate as many people as possible, as quickly as possible.

President Biden has a comprehensive National Action Strategy to put the pandemic behind us and he and the COVID-19 response team are aggressively implementing it.  Today, the President is announcing bold steps that will help meet the goal of administering 100 million shots in 100 days and ramp up vaccine supply as fast as possible. As a result of these actions, the federal government will have enough vaccine supply for the entire U.S. population by the end of the summer.

The President is taking the following actions today:

An Increase in Weekly Vaccine Supply to States, Tribes and Territories: The Biden-Harris Administration will increase overall, weekly vaccine supply to states, Tribes and territories from 8.6 million doses to a minimum of 10 million doses. This increase of 1.4 million doses per week will allow millions more Americans to get vaccinated sooner than previously anticipated. The Administration is committing to maintaining this as the minimum supply level for the next three weeks.

Increased transparency for States, Tribes, and Territories to Help Their Vaccination Efforts: The Biden-Harris Administration is taking action to provide states, Tribes and territories with a reliable three-week supply look-ahead. The Department of Health and Human Services will provide allocation estimates for the upcoming three weeks as opposed to the one week look-ahead that they previously received. This increased transparency will give state and local leaders greater certainty around supply so that they can plan their vaccination efforts and administer vaccines effectively and efficiently.

Purchase 200 Million Additional Doses to Be Delivered This Summer, Double the Nation’s Vaccine Supply: President Biden directed his COVID-19 Response Coordinator to work with HHS to increase our total vaccine supply for the American people.  The Biden-Harris Administration is working to purchase an additional 100 million doses of each of the two Food and Drug Administration-authorized vaccines – Pfizer and Moderna.  This increases the total vaccine order for the U.S. by 50%, from 400 million to 600 million with these additional doses expected to deliver this summer. With these additional doses, the U.S. will have enough vaccine to fully vaccinate 300 million Americans by the end of this summer.

Welcome back competence

OT but

Here's some facts about the pipeline whiners

The Keystone Pipeline was being built to ship shale oil from Canada to The Gulf Of Mexico to be shipped to China. Shale oil is the sludge of the oil commodities market. American refineries do not want to process, and refine it when there is brent crude available. Building the pipeline will take 2,000 workers two years to build. After that, there will be 35 permanent jobs manning the pumping stations, and checking for, and repairing leaks. That oil is already being shipped. How? By truckers, and railroad workers, keeping them employed, along with the truck stop workers, mechanics, motel workers, restaurant workers, filling station workers, etc. who man the trucking networks. The pipeline would cut out the need for thousands of truck drivers, and the other workers I mentioned in the trucking network. The pipeline also crosses the largest aquafer in the United States, and if a break occurs at that point, drinking water for thousands of miles will be undrinkable. You talk about 5 dollars a gallon for gas? How about 30 dollars a gallon for water? The pipeline serves one purpose, and one alone. That is to increase profits for the oil companies. It will eliminate thousands of jobs in doing so, but it is made to look as if killing the pipeline will kill jobs. Think about it critically. It is a corporate lie. Not to mention the sacred land that belongs to indigenous people who the white man has broken so many treaties with & used for their advantage, not the native Americans. Corporate lies is what’s being used to gain leverage in social media ranks but the truth is the truth. Believe what U want folks because those who do will & those who don’t truly believe corporations are ppl will see though the lies. Thanks Rolando Samples for sharing.

I grew up in Rapid City South Dakota, right next to the Black Hills.

The government had given the Black Hills to the native American tribes.

But when white people found gold in the Black Hills, they stole it.

The Homestake gold mine went over 5,000 feet down into the ground. I knew people who worked there.

It's been closed for a long time.

I actually went looking for gold in a creek near Keystone.

Oh wait... sorry. That was Biden who said he didn't want Beau and Hunter going to school with negroes in a racial jungle while he was aligned in the Senate with former KKK members.

That's right... Trump was busy being racist hanging out with Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Don King and the Clintons... while suing municipals trying to open country clubs that allowed Blacks and Jews to join.

Sen. Patrick Leahy, the Vermont Democrat set to preside over the upcoming impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump, was taken to a Washington hospital for evaluation Tuesday, his spokesman said.

“This evening, Senator Leahy was in his Capitol office and was not feeling well,” his spokesman David Carle said in a written statement.

“He was examined in the Capitol by the Attending Physician,” Carle said.

“Out of an abundance of caution, the Attending Physician recommended that he be taken to a local hospital for observation, where he is now, and where he is being evaluated.”

Leahy, 80, is the president pro tempore of the Senate, which makes him responsible for presiding over that chamber in the absence of Vice President Kamala Harris.

Leahy’s status in the Senate also puts him third in line in the order of presidential succession, after Harris and House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Hmmm. I don't know yet if it would block him for running for federal office again.

TPM.

Sens. Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Susan Collins (R-ME) are privately floating a bipartisan resolution censuring former President Trump to their colleagues as most Republicans signal Trump’s likely acquittal in his second impeachment trial, according to Axios on Tuesday.

On Tuesday afternoon, only five Republicans — Sens. Mitt Romney (R-UT), Pat Toomey (R-PA), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Ben Sasse (R-NE) — joined with all the Democratic senators to vote that the Senate impeachment trial is constitutional and should proceed.

Although the Democrats and the five Republicans effectively killed the procedural motion as expected, the majority of Republicans’ vote declaring the trial is unconstitutional makes the chances of Trump’s conviction highly unlikely, given how 12 of those Republicans would have to reverse their positions to convict Trump.

Kaine and Collins view the bipartisan censure resolution they are pitching to colleagues as another pathway to officially condemn Trump for his incitement of the deadly insurrection at the Capitol earlier this month.

However, according to Axios, some Democrats are interested in taking up the censure resolution on the condition that at least 10 Republican senators publicly voice their support for it, which would meet the 60-vote margin needed to pass legislation in the Senate.

Axios noted that it’s unclear whether a censure resolution would be in lieu of or come after a trial, but that Kaine and Collins have expressed interest in it for weeks and have repeatedly discussed it.

The censuring of a president after leaving office would be an unprecedented vote.

President Biden’s approval rating in his first days in office is higher than Donald Trump ever achieved during his four years as president, two new polls have found.

A Morning Consult tracking poll published Monday found that 56 percent of voters approve of Biden’s job performance, while 34 percent disapprove. At the same early juncture of Trump’s one term presidency, 46 percent of Americans polled said they approved of his job performance, and the polling high point for his term in office came in March 2017, when his approval rating hit 52 percent.

Oklahoma Tries to Return Hydroxychloroquine
8:05 pm
“The Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office has been tasked with attempting to return a $2 million stockpile of a malaria drug once touted by former President Donald Trump as a way to treat the coronavirus,” the Frontier reports.

“In April, Gov. Kevin Stitt (R), who ordered the hydroxychloroquine purchase, defended it by saying that while it may not be a useful treatment for the coronavirus, the drug had multiple other uses and ‘that money will not have gone to waste in any respect.'”

drugs have shelf lives but maybe you've forgotten this

Why would the FDA ban a drug that safely saves the lives of patients?
By Rick Hayes
The American people have been subjected to a pack of lies and half-truths for three years. Politicians responsible for most of the deceptions enjoy an approval rating hovering somewhere near that of a used car salesman.
...
Risch, who recently wrote a review article in the American Journal of Epidemiology that cites evidence that he believes supports hydroxychloroquine's use on an outpatient basis against the Wuhan virus, told Levin that the evidence that the drug has saved many lives is "overwhelming." He also stated that there are studies that indicate no harmful effects using the medicine under strict protocol — something the FDA did not consider when it evaluated the drug.

In an interview with The Daily Hayes, Risch cited the evidence found by Dr. Vladimir Zelenko, a family doctor from Monroe, New York, who has reported having a 99.7% survival rate for his patients using hydroxychloroquine.

Zelenko emphasized that the high success rate using hydroxychloroquine is effected when administered on an outpatient basis and in the early stages, usually within the first five days of experiencing symptoms. He spoke of how it was imperative to follow a strict protocol, which included using a cocktail containing hydroxychloroquine, zinc, and the antibiotic azithromycin.

Dr. Simone Gold, a board-certified emergency room physician, recently stood with a group of other physicians on the Supreme Court's steps and stated, "We brought together physicians from across the country who have successfully treated patients using hydroxychloroquine. Our message to the American people is clear. Hydroxychloroquine works."

Gold asked why state governors are restricting physicians from prescribing a medication approved by the FDA for 65 years and empowering pharmacies to overrule how doctors want to treat their patients. "These actions are unprecedented and have never happened before in medicine," said Gold.

Even with all of the published evidence and patient testimonials that hydroxychloroquine is a safe, inexpensive ($20–$50 per full treatment) drug that saves lives, the FDA pulled its Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). The FDA somehow determined that hydroxychloroquine is unlikely to be effective in treating the Wuhan virus.

The FDA instead gave the coveted EUA to the drug Remdesivir. Remdesivir is listed as an investigational drug where the safety and efficacy for the treatment of the Wuhan virus are not yet known. The approximate treatment cost to patients is $3,000.

Information on the life-saving abilities of hydroxychloroquine will soon be almost impossible to find as tech companies have censored any positive discussion of the drug. YouTube took down Zelenko's pro-hydroxychloroquine video, saying it violated community guidelines. Twitter removed a tweet by Rudy Giuliani that said hydroxychloroquine is "100% effective" in treating the Wuhan virus.

Dr. Gold stated, "Facebook removed the livestream of our conference that had 15 million views. Twitter forced us to delete video testimonials from our physicians, and our web host removed our website and claimed a 'violation of their TOS.'"

Gold, who added, "The media smeared us with lies and falsehoods," was fired from her position.

New charges against people in the panty raid are pending

At least five people are believed to have died in connection with the riot. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who was injured in the riot, died the following day. Three members of the public died from injuries or medical issues. Another police officer died by suicide a few days later.

While most of those charged so far have faced solely misdemeanors, dozens have faced more serious felony charges, like obstruction of Congress, interfering with police during civil disorder or carrying a dangerous weapon into the Capitol.

Sherwin said he expects some defendants to soon face a particularly serious charge: sedition.

“We are closely looking at evidence related to the sedition charges. ... You’re talking 20-year felonies,”
Sherwin said, referring to the maximum sentence under the statute. “Yes, we are working on those cases and I think the result will bear fruit very soon. …That’s what we’re trying to build towards.”

Five Trump supporters died at the Capitol on Jan 6th.

One was shot point blank apparently by a Capitol policeman. Who was he? Who hit the Trump supporting policeman over the head with a fire extinguisher who died several days later ? The other three were Trump supporters suffering medical condition.

Why was security under the responsibility of Pelosi not beefed up ? Why were cameras at the ready but not security. Why the rush to a sham impeachment ?

Many more questions than answers.

(CNN)Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene repeatedly indicated support for executing prominent Democratic politicians in 2018 and 2019 before being elected to Congress, a CNN KFile review of hundreds of posts and comments from Greene's Facebook page shows.

Greene, who represents Georgia's 14th Congressional District, frequently posted far-right extremist and debunked conspiracy theories on her page, including the baseless QAnon conspiracy which casts former President Donald Trump in an imagined battle against a sinister cabal of Democrats and celebrities who abuse children.

In one post, from January 2019, Greene liked a comment that said "a bullet to the head would be quicker" to remove House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. In other posts, Greene liked comments about executing FBI agents who, in her eyes, were part of the "deep state" working against Trump. Scott's vision of this generation.

The Republicans have to clean up their party, or the party of Abraham Lincoln will die from Trumpism.

U.S. authorities have opened case files on at least 400 potential suspects and expect to bring sedition charges against some “very soon” in the sprawling investigation of the Jan. 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol, officials said.
Acting U.S. attorney Michael R. Sherwin said Tuesday at a news conference that while new arrests in the nationwide manhunt will soon “plateau” after an initial wave of 135 arrests and 150 federal criminally charged cases, investigations continue into whether different “militia groups [and] individuals” from several states conspired and coordinated the illegal assault on Congress beforehand.

For anyone inclined to care about such things, President Biden's inauguration last Wednesday drew higher ratings that former President Trump's swearing-in four years earlier, Nielsen reported Tuesday. In fact, the only two inaugurations to draw more viewers were Ronald Reagan's first inaugural in 1981, watched by 41.8 million viewers, and Barack Obama's 2009 swearing-in, with 37.8 million people watching. Biden's 33.8 billion viewers easily topped Trump's 30.6 million, Nielsen said.

More people watched Trump's inauguration on Fox News, though. The network saw a 77 percent decline in viewers for Biden's ceremony versus Trump's. CNN more than made up for the difference — its inaugural coverage was the No. 8 show in all of prime time last week, Nielsen said. In the cable wars, CNN came in first last week, followed by MSNBC and then Fox News.

Worse still, he pointed out, former Donald Trump's incendiary comments put Vice President Mike Pence's life at stake and it continues still.

Reacting to reports that Pence is moving from house to house in Indiana for his own safety, Scarborough exclaimed,

"Those lugheads in the United States Senate that think this is just another Trump fight," he began. "That you have people in your midst that have called for the assassination of members of Congress.
