Police crack down on Russian protests against jailing of Kremlin foe Navalny
Police detained more than 3,000 people and used force to break up rallies across Russia on Saturday as tens of thousands of protesters ignored extreme cold and police warnings to demand the release of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny.
The United States condemned what it described as “harsh tactics” used against protesters and journalists and called for Navalny’s “immediate and unconditional” release. “We call on Russian authorities to release all those detained for exercising their universal rights,” U.S. State Department spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.

Now that we have no real backbone in the White House, much less a cognitive thinker, Putin can now get away with anything he wants, including going back to jailing his political opposition and using his own police to beat up his own citizens who oppose him.

If anyone is dumb enough to believe that the timing of this move is all a coincidence, then I have some Florida ocean front property to sell you. This was done now (and things like this will continue to happen) because Putin can get away with it, just as he did for eight years that Obama was supposedly in charge.

Funny how the press now refers to the "condemnation" as not coming from the Biden administration but that it comes from the collective "United States".  Never once did the press refer to anything anyone did from the Trump administration as if it reflected the "United States". They treated our White House as if it was being occupied by a non-American.

Biden Admin has cleaned house immediately upon entering office. Anyone with even a hint of loyalty to the past admin has been fired. Trump Admin came to DC without understanding what they were up against. They kept Obama people around, sometimes for 4 years. Personnel is policy.

To be fair though, the US govt bureaucracy that is entirely attached to the Dem Party, so all Team Biden had to do was kick out the Trump political appointees. Easy pickings.

Yep the no-backbone deep state back in charge.

Russia, China and Iran are beaming.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED !!!

You actually dare to pretend that Putin can now get away with things he could not get away with while Trump was kowtowing to him?

You actually dare to suggest that Trump ever insisted as much as he should have on human rights in suppressive regimes?

You are a craven propagandist.

Trump believed Vladimir even over his own intelligence agency.

TWO BIRDS OF A FEATHER:
Putin is cracking down illegally on dissent in Russia.
Trump illegally sent anarchists into our Capitol building to overthrow a legitimate election.

Look at my last post in the next thread down.

LET'S NOT CRITICIZE TRUMP?

WHY NOT? HISTORY WILL!

Trump Pressed Justice to Go Directly to Supreme Court

11:15 am EST
“In his last weeks in office, former President Trump considered moving to replace the acting attorney general with another official ready to pursue unsubstantiated claims of election fraud, and he pushed the Justice Department to ask the Supreme Court to invalidate President Biden’s victory,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“Those efforts failed due to pushback from his own appointees in the Justice Department, who refused to file what they viewed as a legally baseless lawsuit in the Supreme Court. Later, other senior department officials threatened to resign en masse should Mr. Trump fire then-acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen, according to several people familiar with the discussions.”

sounds very familiar as critics of *Biden here in the US are being "disappeared" as well.

A REMINDER OF THE IMPORTANCE OF LIMITS:

Senate Republican threatens impeachments of past Democratic presidents. “The Texas Republican senator John Cornyn warned on Saturday that Donald Trump’s second impeachment could lead to the prosecution of former Democratic presidents if Republicans retake Congress in two years’ time.” Given Cornyn’s importance in the leadership, this suggests that there will be no conviction.

Birx Says There Was No ‘Full Time Team’ on Covid
11:45 am
Dr. Deborah Birx, the former White House coronavirus response coordinator under former President Donald Trump, revealed that she had no full-time team in the White House working on the response to COVID-19 under the former president, CBS News reports.

IN OTHER WORDS, WHEN THE BIDEN WHITE HOUSE SAYS THERE WAS NOT PLAN TO DEAL WITH COVID, THERE WAS NO PLAN TO DEAL WITH COVID.

Impeachment Trial to Keep National Guard at Capitol
11:41 am
“Former President Donald Trump’s upcoming Senate impeachment trial poses a security concern that federal law enforcement officials told lawmakers last week requires as many as 5,000 National Guard troops to remain in Washington through mid-March,” Politico reports.

a fascist dictator and martial law.

something now welcomed by the left with *Biden in charge.

the hypocrisy is staggering.

internment camps for conservatives, as is being demanded by the left, is right around the corner.

The first historian, Thucydides, taught a simple but wise maxim for democracies: look at both the words and the deeds of people who rule or who seek to rule. When deeds belie words, do not trust that person.

Biden’s first words, his inaugural address, call for “unity and healing” and “a return to civility.” He claims he will be “the president of all Americans.” But his first deeds were to use quasi-dictatorial power to undo everything his predecessor accomplished. He didn’t even wait for Congress to pass laws, even though his party will control Congress. This may be a way to create “unity” if unity means the elimination of opposition to his and his party’s agenda. If “unity” means fascism.

Take a moment of honest thinking to examine the core principle of fascism: it is unity.

Surge of Student Suicides Pushes Las Vegas Schools to Reopen
Firmly linking teen suicides to school closings is difficult, but rising mental health emergencies and suicide rates point to the toll the pandemic lockdown is taking.

Birx and Fauci's legacy is a tidal wave of mental health issues, suicides, and lost learning for a whole generation

I say HCQ is considered safe now too and should be administered early. And many positive cases were false positives, and deaths with Covid are being reported as from Covid.

Anyone who can't see the politicization of science by the dems is blind.

The Senate shouldn’t depart from centuries of practice and understanding. Declining to try Mr. Trump would set a dangerous new precedent, denying future presidents and other officials the opportunity to clear their names if they leave office, and allowing them to escape accountability by resigning—or saving their worst acts for the end of their term.

Mr. Whittington is a professor of politics at Princeton and author of “Repugnant Laws: Judicial Review of Acts of Congress from the Founding to the Present.”

Mitt Romney says Trump Impeachment Trial Important For 'Unity,' 'Accountability'
HuffPost
11:01 AM

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) on Sunday called the upcoming impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump important for “unity” and “accountability,” breaking with some Republicans who argue the trial would further divide the country.

“If we are going to have unity in our country, I think it’s important to recognize the need for accountability, for truth and justice,” Romney said during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” adding that he hopes the trial will move “as quickly as possible.”

“It is pretty clear that over the last year there has been an effort to corrupt the election in the United States and it was not by President Biden; it was by President Trump,” Romney added.

He wouldn’t say whether he will vote to convict Trump. He was the only Republican to do so during Trump’s first impeachment trial in 2020.
______

from a Fox video:

Chris Wallace:
Senator, it sure sounds like you're going to vote to convict.

Senator Romney:
Well, there's no question but that the article on impeachment that was sent over by the House suggests impeachable conduct. But we have not yet heard either from the prosecution or from the defense. I'll get a chance to hear from them, and I will do my best as a Senate juror to apply justice as well as I can understand it."
