When the cat's away part III

Israel Warns Lebanon of ‘Extremely Significant Couterattack’ if Hezbollah Attacks
Israeli military chief has warned neighboring Lebanon of an ‘extremely significant counterattack’ if Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorist militia uses the country to launch attacks against Israel.
“In the face of these threats, we will respond with an extremely significant counterattack that will include targeting rockets, missiles and weapons, whether in open areas, or adjacent to and inside buildings,” Israel Defense Forces (IDF) chief Aviv Kochavi said.

With all the focus and energy on what Trump was "tweeting" about on a particular day or what "sources close to the White House" were making up as they went along, people forgot about how the actual country and world were doing.

While the media ignored news about a variety of peace agreements in the Middle East that led to multiple people nominating Trump for Nobel Peace Prizes, it didn't stop the fact that things were more than just relatively quiet. Not only in the Middle East, but in most of the world. In fact, Trump is the first President in our lifetime not to have escalated conflicts, started a war, or otherwise

But just in the past couple of weeks we have seen Putin decide to start arresting political opposition and protesters, we had China setting new policies about shoot first and ask questions later regarding ships in disputed international waters, and now we are back to Iran causing problems in the Middle East again.

Seems like a strange coincidence that all of this started back up within days of Biden being sworn in as President.

Well, this is might be why this is happening, in response to the election of President Biden.

Donald Trump was cultivated as a Russian asset over 40 years and proved so willing to parrot anti-western propaganda that there were celebrations in Moscow, a former KGB spy has told the Guardian.

Yuri Shvets, posted to Washington by the Soviet Union in the 1980s, compares the former US president to “the Cambridge five”, the British spy ring that passed secrets to Moscow during the second world war and early cold war.

Now 67, Shvets is a key source for American Kompromat, a new book by journalist Craig Unger, whose previous works include House of Trump, House of Putin. The book also explores the former president’s relationship with the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

“This is an example where people were recruited when they were just students and then they rose to important positions; something like that was happening with Trump,” Shvets said by phone on Monday from his home in Virginia.

Shvets, a KGB major, had a cover job as a correspondent in Washington for the Russian news agency Tass during the 1980s. He moved to the US permanently in 1993 and gained American citizenship. He works as a corporate security investigator and was a partner of Alexander Litvinenko, who was assassinated in London in 2006.

Unger describes how Trump first appeared on the Russians’ radar in 1977 when he married his first wife, Ivana Zelnickova, a Czech model. Trump became the target of a spying operation overseen by Czechoslovakia’s intelligence service in cooperation with the KGB.
I will provide the link.

But the Russians have been trying to destroy the United States since the Communist revolution.

It's not like a strange coincidence that all of this started back up within days of Biden being sworn in as President.

Trump’s election win in 2016 was again welcomed by Moscow. Special counsel Robert Mueller did not establish a conspiracy between members of the Trump campaign and the Russians. But the Moscow Project, an initiative of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, found the Trump campaign and transition team had at least 272 known contacts and at least 38 known meetings with Russia-linked operatives.

Shvets, who has carried out his own investigation, said: “For me, the Mueller report was a big disappointment because people expected that it will be a thorough investigation of all ties between Trump and Moscow, when in fact what we got was an investigation of just crime-related issues. There were no counterintelligence aspects of the relationship between Trump and Moscow.”

He added: “This is what basically we decided to correct. So I did my investigation and then got together with Craig. So we believe that his book will pick up where Mueller left off.”

Unger, the author of seven books and a former contributing editor for Vanity Fair magazine, said of Trump: “He was an asset. It was not this grand, ingenious plan that we’re going to develop this guy and 40 years later he’ll be president. At the time it started, which was around 1980, the Russians were trying to recruit like crazy and going after dozens and dozens of people.”

“Trump was the perfect target in a lot of ways: his vanity, narcissism made him a natural target to recruit. He was cultivated over a 40-year period, right up through his election.”

The lawyer for an Arizona man who took part in the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol while sporting face paint, no shirt and a furry hat with horns is offering to have his client, Jacob Chansley, testify at former President Donald Trump's upcoming impeachment trial. Lawyer Albert Watkins said it's important for senators to hear the voice of someone who was incited by Mr. Trump.

Watkins said his client was previously "horrendously smitten" by Mr. Trump but now feels let down after Mr. Trump's refusal to grant Chansley and others who participated in the insurrection a pardon. "He felt like he was betrayed by the president," Watkins said.

It won't change the outcome.

But off topic but this is very difficult.

KABUL, Afghanistan — Both the Afghan government and its Taliban foes appear to be gearing up for a violent spring amid uncertainty over whether the Biden administration will meet a May 1 deadline for the withdrawal of all American troops from Afghanistan.

On Thursday, the Pentagon raised questions about whether the pullout — agreed to in a February 2020 U.S.-Taliban peace deal — would go ahead on schedule as the incoming Biden administration reviews the agreement made by its predecessor. That statement followed bellicose remarks by Taliban and Afghan government officials, amplified by waves of violence across the country.

“Without them meeting their commitments to renounce terrorism and to stop the violent attacks against the Afghan National Security Forces, it’s very hard to see a specific way forward for the negotiated settlement,” John F. Kirby, the Pentagon spokesman, said at a news briefing. “But we’re still committed to that.”

Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, said Friday on social media that Mr. Kirby’s assertions were “unfounded.”

The agreement between the Taliban and the U.S. government started the withdrawal of U.S. and NATO forces from Afghanistan in exchange for counterterrorism pledges from the Taliban and a promise to push the Afghan government to release 5,000 prisoners. The move amounted to the strongest attempt yet by the United States to extricate itself from its longest war and potentially paved the way for the Taliban’s future inclusion in the Afghan government.

President Biden is going to impose sanctions on the Russians, until they remove the bounties on American soldiers.

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell indicated on Thursday that media figures overreacted to a recent report that Russian officials placed bounties on the lives of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan.

“What I know is that our military commanders on the ground did not think that it was as serious a problem as the newspapers were reporting and television was reporting,” Powell told MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell. “It got kind of out of control before we really had an understanding of what had happened. I’m not sure we fully understand now.”

He added: “But [commander of U.S. Central Command] General [Kenneth] McKenzie … he did not think this was of that level of importance to us. Remember, it’s not the intelligence community that’s going to go fight these guys, it’s the guys on the ground. It’s our troops. It’s our commanders who are going to go deal with this kind of a threat, using intelligence that was given to them by the intelligence community.

“Their reticence to take action is yet another example of how Republican leaders have allowed those forces to fester and strengthen.”

Cori Bush Moving Her Office Away from Greene
Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) tweeted that she’s moving her office away from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA) for her and her staff’s safety.

The move comes after Bush said “a maskless Marjorie Taylor Greene and her staff berated me in a hallway.”

President Biden has already done more to protect and defend the United States in one week, than the ex President did in four years.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday signed a bill extending the last remaining nuclear arms control treaty between Russia and the United States a week before the pact was due to expire.

Both houses of the Russian parliament voted unanimously Wednesday to extend the New START treaty for five years. Putin and U.S. President Joe Biden had discussed the nuclear accord a day earlier, and the Kremlin said they agreed to complete the necessary extension procedures in the next few days.

The pact’s extension doesn’t require congressional approval in the U.S., but Russian lawmakers had to ratify the move.

The treaty, signed in 2010 by President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, limits each country to no more than 1,550 deployed nuclear warheads and 700 deployed missiles and bombers, and envisages sweeping on-site inspections to verify compliance.

Biden indicated during the U.S. presidential campaign that he favored the preservation of New START, which was negotiated during his tenure as vice President under Obama.

So over the course of the last week saw quite a few comments regarding raising the minimum wage to $15/hr. Given that I was passing stones couldn't formulate a proper response but now I can.

March 23rd is my 40th birthday. It also marks 25 years that I have actively been employed in one job or another with the exception of a month I took off after I was discharged from the Army. I spent most of those years in jobs that I have seen labeled as not worth a living wage. At 15 I was scrubbing toilets as a housekeeper in a hotel. At 16 I was flipping burgers. At 17-18 I was working two jobs at Cici's Pizza and Blockbuster video. Following my four years in the military I spent 6 months as a gas station attendant before then spending the four years I was in college working as a night auditor. I have worked in the medical technology field since 2008.

The jobs I held before my current profession were vastly more difficult than those I have held since 2008. Whether it was spending 8+ hours a day cleaning up other people's trash, dealing with rude customers who feel it their right to demean and degrade those working in fast food or throwing computers at you when you charge them for smoking in a non-smoking room, those jobs were a constant minefield of the worst of human behavior. I endured those not to mention having a gun held to my temple twice for no more than $7.50 an hour.

Making this even more offensive is the assertion that kids don't need to make a living wage. Let me explain why this is incorrect. Following my parents divorce in my junior year of high school, my mom took a deep dive into a bottle and stayed there. The money she received from my dad and the paycheck she received were either lost at a casino or she had imbibed them within days. That left me, a 17 year old, to pick up the slack. Making $7.50 an hour did not do much to help turn the water or power back on when it was turned off. It didn't go very far in ensuring that my sister and I had food to eat, instead I had to rely on what I was allowed to take home from work and then generally gave it to my sister versus myself. There were countless nights I laid in bed, desperate to fall asleep after a day that started at 5am and went to 11pm with a small window to sleep before my mom stumbled in, but could not because the hunger pains kept me awake. If you have not tried to function when you are have not eaten let me tell you that it is not an easy thing to do. My academics and job performance suffered as a result those nights where I stared at the ceiling just wanting something to eat.

This is the reality of countless Americans because we live in a society where we make judgements on which people should have an opportunity to survive and thrive based off superficial assessments of their worth based on the job they hold. Every human being has intrinsic worth and are deserving of a life where they can put a roof over their head and food on their table. Failure to acknowledge that truth is one of the greatest moral failings of our nation.

Pay people a living wage, this is not a hard topic, it is a moral imperative.

When new information about anything comes out, I'm willing to change my mind about it.

It's like science and technology and medical science. New information can lead to the truth dumbshit.

We didn't know about uranium until scientists found it. And it ended up creating nuclear weapons and nuclear power plants.

If Trump said that the world is flat you would believe him.🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🤣🤣🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰🤣🤣🥰🤣🤣😅😊😁😉🙃😉

judge in New York has ordered the attorneys for the Trump Organization to give unprivileged documents to the state's attorney general by Feb. 4.

Friday's order came as part of Attorney General Letitia James' broader investigation into whether Trump illegally altered the value of his assets -- an allegation that surfaced in 2019 from Michael Cohen, the former president's confidante.

Prior to the order, the state's Supreme Court reviewed documents submitted by Morgan, Lewis, and Bockius LLP.

"Morgan Lewis is hereby ordered to produce to petitioner, by February 4, 2021, all documents marked 'not privileged' by this court in the privilege log being emailed today under separate cover to all parties," read Friday's order from Judge Arthur Engoron.

The court noted that it considered many of the communications not to be privileged despite Lewis, the Trump Organization's attorney, marking them otherwise. Those documents, the court said, were "addressing business tasks and decisions, not exchanges soliciting or rendering legal advice."

Friday's order follows another from Engoron granting James access to documents between the Trump Organization and Ralph Mastromanaco, an engineer with which it worked.

"Once again, justice and the rule of law prevailed," James said at the time. "We will immediately move to ensure that the Trump Organization complies with the court’s order and submits records related to our investigation. My office's ongoing investigation will continue, as we continue to follow the facts wherever they may lead."

James had also subpoenaed Eric Trump, the former president's son, and Engoron backed her in a decision from September.

The Trump Organization previously accused James of playing politics. "While we have tried to cooperate in good faith with the investigation at every turn, the NYAG’s continued harassment of the company as we approach the election (and filing of this motion on the first day of the Republican National Convention) once again confirms that this investigation is all about politics," read a statement last year emailed by Trump Organization chief legal officer Alan Garten.

Donald Trump’s four years of erratic, chaotic, norm-shattering rule—culminating in the most serious attack in our history by a sitting President on the legitimacy of an election—were as serious a national crisis as any in recent American history. The shock of a President who would challenge even the basic precepts of our constitutional order will not fade quickly. The storming of the Capitol was a traumatic event for Washington’s political class, the full effects of which may well take years to become apparent. The pandemic and its attendant economic crisis will end on Biden’s watch, and once they do it’s hard to foresee that the politics of this post-Trump America will resemble anything close to those of a year ago, never mind those of the pre-Trump era. I can imagine Trump as the Republican leader of the next few rage-filled years. But I can just as well imagine him stuck at home alone at Mar-a-Lago, roaring about revenge.

The trial will begin on February 8th.

If the evidence shows that Trump knew in advance of the Jan. 6th insurrection at the Capitol, as well as how his words and actions influenced those who participated?

The rioting left five dead, including one member of the U.S. Capitol Police. In addition, two officers, one with the D.C. Police Department, have since died by suicide.

Should he be convicted or set free?

After four years of "Trump is an evil dictator" Biden is issuing decrees in a militarized capital.

And the FBI conspirator who falsified a document to obtain a FISA warrant against members of the incoming administration gets a $100 fine and probation.

His co-conspirators are on book tours or getting paid as TV "commentators"

We’re all for public officials being attentive to the “public” part of their title. It’s good for everyone when elected representatives explain what they’re doing and why they’re doing it. But on behalf of a whole lot of North Carolinians, we have a request regarding one of those officials:

Can someone please keep Madison Cawthorn away from the cameras? And the microphones? And really, most situations in which he publicly tries to turn words into meaningful thoughts?

The first-term, District 11 U.S. House member has been an embarrassment to the institution, to his party, and to his state. In the last month alone, he:

▪ Helped incite the U.S. Capitol invasion with a Jan. 6 speech that lied about election fraud and stoked anger, then less than 24 hours later said the president’s election falsehoods played a role in the riot while claiming his own, similar election lies weren’t a factor. Cawthorn wasn’t alone in that kind of whiplash-inducing pivot, but he was the only lawmaker calling for unity after Jan. 6 who also sold “Cry more, lib” T-shirts on his web site. (He later removed the listing.)

▪ Faced questions about claims that he was a legitimate candidate for the 2020 Paralympic Games. Cawthorn has suggested so more than once, including telling a Christian podcast host that “I had an opportunity for the Paralympics for track and field.” This is not accurate, as The Nation reported, and it’s an insult to the Paralympic athletes who invest their time and effort to compete at an elite level.

▪ Typed this actual sentence in a Jan. 19 email to Republican colleagues obtained by TIME: “I have built my staff around comms rather than legislation.” That commitment to messaging, rather than understanding and participating in legislating, might have been something that interested his constituents before they voted to send him to Congress.

AOC is a white supremacist.

*I don't make the rules

and it's amazing someone who is constantly posting video of herself has none from anytime around when she said she felt she was going to die.

Nor did anyone around her.

But five Trump supporters died...
