#Bidenlies trending

 So what's the buzz here?

Apparently many people are none too happy that the $2000 payment promised people turned out to be $1400. Those who peddled the lie to voters in Georgia appear to be some of the least happy. You put your ass out there. Promise people that if you vote Democrat that you will get an additional $2000 payment and then, when push comes to shove, you got $1400.

Granted, as previously stated, I understand what the logic is here. When this first came up the idea was to replace the promised $600 payment with a $2000 payment. Trump was the one those spearheaded the effort and likely cost the GOP the Georgia Senate seats in the process. So once the $600 checks came out, the extra $1400 was logical.

But that was not what was promised. Even after the $600 started getting deposited into accounts, the Democrats were still promising we would see an additional $2000, or at least that was the implication. But politicians don't always tell the truth. They tell you what you want to hear, or what they think will make you vote for them.

But either way, this was not a great PR move for Biden and the Democrats. Will probably still be campaign fodder come 2022.

For 77 days between the election and the inauguration, President Donald Trump attempted to subvert American democracy with a lie about election fraud that he had been grooming for years.

A New York Times examination of the events that unfolded after the election shows how the president — enabled by Republican leaders, advised by conspiracy-minded lawyers and bankrolled by a new class of Trump-era donors — waged an extralegal campaign that convinced tens of millions of Americans the election had been stolen and made the deadly Jan. 6 assault on the Capitol almost inevitable.

Interviews with central players, along with documents, videos and previously unreported emails, tell the story of a campaign that was more coordinated than previously understood, even as it strayed farther from reality with each passing day.

Sign up for The Morning newsletter from the New York Times

Here are some key takeaways:

As some lawyers on Trump’s team pulled back, others were ready to press ahead with suits skating the lines of legal ethics and reason

Within 10 days of the election, even as Trump and his supporters promoted allegation after allegation of voter fraud, his team of election lawyers knew that the reality was the inverse of what Trump was presenting: They were not finding substantial evidence of malfeasance or enough irregularities to overturn the election.

That reality was hammered home Nov. 12, when final Arizona results showed Joe Biden with an irreversible lead of more than 10,000 votes that rendered the legal team’s main lawsuit in that state — which had identified 191 ballots to contest — moot.

At an Oval Office meeting that day, the election lawyers squared off against the president’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, over Giuliani’s embrace of questionable legal tactics and conspiracy theories like one that Dominion voting machines had transformed Trump votes into Biden votes.

Ultimately, Trump decided to give Giuliani leadership of the entire legal strategy, making Nov. 12 the day when Trump’s effort to reverse his loss in the courts became an all-out, extralegal campaign to disenfranchise millions of voters based on the false notion of pervasive fraud.

Voting-machine conspiracy theories became intertwined with a supercomputer story pushed in conservative media

The Dominion conspiracy theory taking root among the president and many of his supporters had been weeks in the making. In late October, an obscure conservative website, The American Report, was pushing stories about a supercomputer called The Hammer that it said was running software called Scorecard to steal votes from Trump.

The theory found amplification the day before the election on the podcast of Trump’s former political strategist, Stephen Bannon, who invited two proponents of the theory onto his show to speak about it: Thomas McInerney, a retired Air Force lieutenant general who had previously been banned from Fox News for lies about Sen. John McCain’s record as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, and Sidney Powell, a lawyer who would become one of Trump’s most controversial and unbridled defenders.

Trump was enabled by influential Republicans motivated by ambition, fear or a misplaced belief that he would not go too far

Trump was given vital room to run by key Republicans, especially the Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, who made an early decision to join his fellow party members in breaking from the tradition of recognizing the victor after the major television networks and The Associated Press called the race.

McConnell feared alienating a president whose help he needed in two Georgia Senate runoffs that would decide his control of the chamber. He also heeded misplaced assurances from White House aides like Jared Kushner that Trump would eventually accede to reality, people close to the senator told The Times. His later recognition of Biden’s victory would not be enough to stop 14 Republican senators from joining a late effort to nullify millions of Americans’ votes just before Jan. 6.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Texas’ lawsuit challenging election results in 4 battleground states was ghostwritten

The Texas attorney general’s Supreme Court lawsuit seeking to effectively wipe out 20 million votes in four battleground states won by Biden was secretly drafted by lawyers close to the White House, The Times found. Two-thirds of the country’s Republican state attorneys general, 18 in all, would join an amicus brief, but only after senior officials in several of their offices raised red flags.

“It is most likely that the court will deny this in one sentence,” North Dakota’s deputy solicitor general, James E. Nicolai, wrote in an email to his boss.

On Dec. 11, the court did just that, ruling that Texas had no right to challenge other states’ votes. Three days later, the Electoral College affirmed Biden’s win.

The lie was propelled forward by new and more radical lawyers and financiers

At a White House meeting four days later, Trump met with Powell, and two prominent associates: former Overstock.com chief executive Patrick Byrne, who was financing his own team of “cybersleuths” to help prove voter fraud, and Michael Flynn, the disgraced and newly pardoned former national security adviser who had by then publicly raised the notion that Trump should declare martial law. The session descended into a shouting match between the three and members of Trump’s White House team, including his White House counsel, Pat Cipollone.

“It was really damned close to fistfights,” Byrne recalled on the “Operation Freedom” YouTube show.

Ultimately, Trump agreed to focus on a different goal: blocking congressional certification of the results on Jan. 6.

Women for America First, a little known but highly organized group, helped build a coalition

With attention focused on the president’s daily tirades and subversive maneuvers, a group of activists — little known but increasingly influential — was going town to town in MAGA-red buses, holding rallies to pressure key senators to contest the vote. The bus tour was organized by a group called Women for America First.

The group would help build an acutely Trumpian coalition that included sitting and incoming members of Congress, rank-and-file voters and the “de-platformed” extremists and conspiracy theorists promoted on an early version of its “Trump March” homepage — since deleted but found through the Internet Archive — including white nationalist Jared Taylor, prominent QAnon proponents and Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Women for America First had various ties to the president and those close to him. Its leader, Amy Kremer, was a leading organizer of the Tea Party era and an early supporter of Trump, having started a Women for Trump super PAC in 2016. And two of the group’s organizers had their own important ties. One, Jennifer Lawrence, knew Trump through her father, who had done business with him; another, Dustin Stockton, had credibility in the gun-rights community as a coordinator with Gun Owners of America. Both had worked with Bannon as well.

Among the sponsors of the bus tour were Bannon and Mike Lindell, the founder of MyPillow, who says he has spent $2 million so far investigating voting machines and foreign interference. Lindell, along with Byrne, was part of a shift taking place in the Republican Party as traditional donors withdrew from what became an open attack on the democratic system, and new donors rose to finance the stolen-election narrative.

The Jan. 6 rally effectively became a White House production

Women for America First was the original organizer of the Jan. 6 rally in Washington. But at the turn of the year, Trump decided to join the rally himself, and the event effectively became a White House production, with several people close to the administration and the Trump campaign joining the team.

Former Trump campaign adviser Katrina Pierson was the liaison to the White House, a former administration official said. And the president discussed the speaking lineup, as well as the music to be played, according to a person with direct knowledge of the conversations.

Stockton, the bus-tour organizer, said that he had been surprised to learn that the protest would include a march from the Ellipse to the Capitol. That march — the prelude to the riot — had not been the plan before the White House became involved.

America is returning to reality. Instead of being an isolationist philosophy, we are returning to the diplomatic philosophy of the post World War two, when we defeated the Soviet Union without a Third World War, that world have been destroyed by nuclear weapons.

Feb. 1, 2021, 4:15 AM PST / Updated Feb. 1, 2021, 4:47 AM PST

By Andrea Mitchell and Abigail Williams

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Sunday that he was "deeply disturbed by the violent crackdown" on Russian protesters and the arrests of thousands of people throughout the country demanding the release of jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

Russia's Foreign Ministry claimed on Twitter that the U.S. was behind the protests, alleging a "gross intervention in Russia's affairs," but the demonstrations show that Russians are fed up with "corruption" and "autocracy," Blinken told NBC News in his first television interview since he took office last week.

"The Russian government makes a big mistake if it believes that this is about us," he said. "It's about them. It's about the government. It's about the frustration that the Russian people have with corruption, with autocracy, and I think they need to look inward, not outward."

Navalny was arrested Jan. 17 on his return to Moscow after having recovered in Germany from what U.S. and other Western governments say was a chemical attack by Vladimir Putin's government. Navalny's organization has sent letters to Blinken and the White House asking the U.S. to sanction Putin's financial backers to pressure Putin to release Navalny, who is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Blinken said he is reviewing a response to Navalny's situation, along with other actions by the Russian government, including election interference in 2020, the Solar Winds hack and allegations that bounties were put on U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Former President Donald Trump did not press Putin about those issues. President Joe Biden did so last week in their first phone call.

Blinken would not commit to specific sanctions, but he said: "The president could not have been clearer in his conversation with President Putin."

President Biden doesn't worship Vladimir Putin's asshole like the ex President does.

The numbers are nearly all in now. What they show about what really happened during the eight years that Barack Obama was president is sometimes different from what politicians claimed.

The economy gained a net 11.6 million jobs. The unemployment rate dropped to below the historical norm.Average weekly earnings for all workers were up 4.2 percent after inflation. The gain was 3.7 percent for just production and nonsupervisory employees.After-tax corporate profits also set records, as did stock prices. The S&P 500 index rose 166 percent. The number of people lacking health insurance dropped by 15 million. Premiums rose, but more slowly than before.

Trump was a total failure, except in the middle east.

But we will see.

Speaking about Olinski lolololololololololol

Obama created 8.9 million jobs by the end of December 2016, a 6.2% increase. There were 152.2 million people employed at the end of his term. That's compared to the 143.3 million people who were working at the end of the Bush administration.

But that doesn't give the total picture. The economy lost 8.7 million jobs as a result of the "Great Recession," which took place from late-2007 through mid-2009.17 From June 2009 to December 2016, Obama created 12.2 million jobs, an 8.7% increase.1 If measured that way, Obama created the third-highest total number of jobs.

Obama attacked the Great Recession with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. It created jobs through public works. Many of those jobs were in construction. That successfully reduced the unemployment rate. But that meant Obama increased the debt by $8.6 trillion, a 73% increase.18 That drove the debt-to-gross domestic product ratio to 104%.19

Since then the deficit rate skyrocketed.

A Vermont judge has found that Stuart Stevens, a national political consultant and the architect of Sen. Mitt Romney’s (R-Utah) 2012 presidential campaign, inflicted “emotional distress” on a Stowe woman through a yearlong barrage of unwanted communications.

Superior Court Judge Megan Shafritz issued a no-stalking order against Stevens last Friday, barring him from contacting or approaching the woman, Paige Hinkson, until July 2019. Stevens had been subject to a temporary no-stalking order since last June, when Hinkson filed her initial complaint; it was extended five times.

In her ruling, Shafritz wrote that Stevens had called or texted Hinkson or her husband, Craig DeLuca, 151 times between April 2017 and March 2018 — often late at night and always from a blocked phone number. The judge also found that Stevens stared Hinkson down at a Stowe café, sent DeLuca a threatening package and engaged in other behavior that led Hinkson to appear “frightened and distraught” in court.

“I am petrified of Stuart Stevens and I desperately need the protection of this court,” Hinkson said during a hearing last June, according to court transcripts. In an interview Wednesday with Seven Days, she called the situation “excruciating” and said she’d been “living in terror because of Stuart Stevens.”

The White House has "been in touch" with Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) about its economic relief proposal, press secretary Jen Psaki said Monday, after the moderate senator expressed surprise at Vice President Harris' recent media appearances in his home state seeking to boost support for the package.

"We’ve been in touch with Sen. Manchin as we have been for many weeks and will continue to be moving forward," Psaki said when asked if the White House had reached out to clear the air with the West Virginia senator.

Psaki would not say whether President Biden had personally reached out to Manchin, but said the senator is "an important partner as we look to move forward on this package and of course all of the president’s agenda."

He was upset with Vice President Harris.

From the Wall Street Journal. If the President's recovery plan will bring us back very quickly.

A new analysis from economists at the Brookings Institution found the president’s plan would boost GDP to the level economists expected before the pandemic by the end of the year and temporarily push the jobless rate down to 3.2% by the end of 2021 from 6.7% in December 2020.

GDP would exceed expectations by 1% for the fourth quarter of 2021, likely putting some upward pressure on inflation, which the Federal Reserve has said it would welcome, senior Brookings fellows Wendy Edelberg and Louise Sheiner wrote. Output would then decline slightly in 2022, though the contraction could be sharper than expected, they said.

If the plan is enacted, cumulative GDP over the next decade would be roughly the same as expected before the pandemic, they said. Without another aid package, GDP would remain below its pre-pandemic level for several years.

“In the near term, without additional federal resources to contain the resurgence of the pandemic and distribute vaccines, the economy will face substantial headwinds,” wrote Ms. Edelberg, a former CBO chief economist, and Ms. Sheiner, a former Fed economist.

The President has a plan that will create millions of jobs and again will restore sanity to the United states of America.

(Reuters) - Dozens of Republicans in former President George W. Bush's administration are leaving the party, dismayed by a failure of many elected Republicans to disown Donald Trump after his false claims of election fraud sparked a deadly storming of the U.S. Capitol last month.

These officials, some who served in the highest echelons of the Bush administration, said they had hoped that a Trump defeat would lead party leaders to move on from the former president and denounce his baseless claims that the November presidential election was stolen.

But with most Republican lawmakers sticking to Trump, these officials say they no longer recognize the party they served. Some have ended their membership, others are letting it lapse while a few are newly registered as independents, according to a dozen former Bush officials who spoke with Reuters.

"The Republican Party as I knew it no longer exists. I’d call it the cult of Trump," said Jimmy Gurulé, who was Undersecretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence in the Bush administration.

Kristopher Purcell, who worked in the Bush White House’s communications office for six years, said roughly 60 to 70 former Bush officials have decided to leave the party or are cutting ties with it, from conversations he has been having. "The number is growing every day," Purcell said.

Their defection from the Republican Party after a lifetime of service for many is another clear sign of how a growing intraparty conflict over Trump and his legacy is fracturing it.

The party is currently caught between disaffected moderate Republicans and independents disgusted by the hold Trump still has over elected officials, and Trump’s fervently loyal base. Without the enthusiastic support of both groups, the party will struggle to win national elections, according to polling, Republican officials and strategists.

The Republican National Committee referred Reuters to a recent interview its chair Ronna McDaniel gave to the Fox Business channel. “We’re having a little bit of a spat right now. But we are going to come together. We have to,” McDaniel said, predicting the party will unite against the agenda of President Joe Biden, a Democrat.

Representatives for Trump did not respond to a request for comment.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

A representative of former President Bush did not respond to a request for comment. During the Trump presidency Bush made clear he had “retired from politics."

'IT'S APPALLING'

More than half of the Republicans in Congress - eight senators and 139 House representatives - voted to block certification of the election just hours after the Capitol siege.

Most Republican Senators have also indicated they would not support the impeachment of Trump, making it almost certain that the former president won't be convicted in his Senate trial. Trump was impeached on Jan. 13 by the Democratic-led House of Representatives on charges of "incitement of insurrection," the only president to be impeached twice.

The unwillingness by party leaders to disavow Trump was the final straw for some former Republican officials.

"If it continues to be the party of Trump, many of us are not going back," Rosario Marin, a former Treasurer of the U.S. under Bush, told Reuters. "Unless the Senate convicts him, and rids themselves of the Trump cancer, many of us will not be going back to vote for Republican leaders."

Two former Bush officials who spoke to Reuters said they believe it is important to stay in the party to rid it of Trump’s influence.

One of those, Suzy DeFrancis, a veteran of the Republican Party who served in administrations including those of former presidents Richard Nixon and George W. Bush, said she voted for Biden in November but that breaking the party apart now will only benefit Democrats.

"I totally understand why people are frustrated and want to leave the party. I’ve had that feeling for 4 years," DeFrancis said.

But she said it’s critical the party unite around Republican principles such as limited government, personal responsibility, free enterprise and a strong national defense.

Purcell said many felt they have no choice, however. He referred to Marjorie Taylor Greene, a freshman Republican congresswoman from Georgia who promotes the QAnon conspiracy theory, which falsely claims that top Democrats belong to a secret governing cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophiles. Another newly elected Representative, Lauren Boebert from Colorado, has also made supportive statements about QAnon.

"We have QAnon members of Congress. It’s appalling," Purcell said.

CSNBC.

Here’s what the CBO sees for the U.S. economy:

Real GDP to grow 3.7% in 2021GDP growth to average 2.6% over the next five yearsThe unemployment rate to fall to 5.3% in 2021, and further to 4% between 2024 and 2025Inflation to rise to 2% after 2023The Federal Reserve to start hiking the federal funds rate in mid-2024Upgraded economic outlook through 2025

These projections are a stronger outlook than the budget office’s prior forecast from summer 2020, when the CBO said it expected the coronavirus to sap about $7.9 trillion of economic activity over the next decade-plus.

The CBO said it upgraded its estimates “because the downturn was not as severe as expected and because the first stage of the recovery took place sooner and was stronger than expected.” CBO staff added that businesses proved more able to adapt to government-imposed restrictions, but that certain industries — such as hospitality and food services — are still struggling.

Regardless, the rapid expansion the CBO projects for the next five years is expected to moderate in the five years thereafter amid an uptick in prices and a more normal level of long-term consumer spending.

Between 2026 and 2031, the CBO foresees real GDP growth of about 1.6% annually and the Fed allowing inflation to run above its 2% target.

The office also issued some analysis of the recent, $900 billion stimulus package that Congress passed in December. CBO estimates that the pandemic-related provisions in that legislation will add $774 billion to the deficit in fiscal year 2021 and $98 billion in 2022.

Those provisions will boost the level of real GDP by 1.5%, on average, in calendar years 2021 and 2022, CBO estimates.

The CBO’s outlook comes at a precarious time for the U.S. economy as the coronavirus prompts many states to impose business closures and other social-distancing measures to help slow the spread of the disease.

Economists say the economy suffered a brief but sharp recession in 2020 as the unemployment rate spiked to 14.8% in April and growth contracted 31.4% in the second quarter. Covid-19 has killed more than 440,000 Americans, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

While the economy has come a long way since then, both Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Fed Chairman Jerome Powell have in recent months warned that Congress may need to pass additional stimulus to support households and business until the Covid-19 vaccine is more widely available.

According to the latest reading, the U.S. employment rate stood at 6.7% in December. The Labor Department is scheduled to publish the next look at the U.S. employment situation on Friday.

Biden has for months lobbied for another round of stimulus in addition to the $2.2 trillion CARES Act that Congress passed last March and the $900 billion package passed in December.

Earlier this month, the new administration floated a $1.9 trillion plan that includes $1,400 direct payments, a per-week federal unemployment benefit of $400 through September and an increase to the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour.

You guys keep saying that the President doesn't have a plan. Kputz said that at least three times today.

a Bachelor's in Rhetoric.

About the Program
Bachelor of Arts (BA)
Rhetoric majors are trained in the history of rhetorical theory and practice, grounded in argumentation and in the analysis of the symbolic and institutional dimensions of discourse. The department offers both a pragmatic understanding of the elements of rhetorical analysis, with special attention to logic, style, tropes, figures, and images, and a thorough grounding in the historical development of these elements in rhetorical theory. The combination allows students to make a disciplined grasp of the contemporary character of rhetoric and language. Through its emphasis on the history and theory of rhetoric, the department provides an understanding of the format of contemporary theories of interpretation as well as an opportunity, within this framework, to explore the role of persuasion in pragmatic and aesthetic contexts.

The major is not intended to provide skills-based training in oral argument or communication.

At the state level, Republican leaders are grappling with how to keep Trump loyalists engaged while trying to steer the party away from fringe conspiracy theories.

“Trump was a value add to our party,” said Jennifer Carnahan, the Minnesota Republican Party chairwoman. “We saw a level of growth in Minnesota we hadn’t seen in a long time. We want those people to stay engaged. We want them to vote again in two years.” She added: “We also need to remember that one of the things that makes America so great is having free and fair elections. Biden was inaugurated; he is our president.”

National party officials like Ms. McDaniel who are seeking to unite the party in order to win back majorities in 2022 are in a difficult position of trying to do so without disavowing Republicans who are attacking other Republicans.

In the middle of all the division is Mr. Trump. He still wields power over his party even out of office and barred from Twitter, as was clear when Mr. McCarthy visited him last week to discuss his help in 2022 races.

But Mr. Reed said the party needed to look beyond Mr. Trump if it wanted to win again. “A strong party always looks to the future for leaders, not to the past,” he said

Reminiscent of the Obama Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) witch hunt of conservative groups, a U.S. Senator who sits on the committee that oversees the tax agency is pushing it to revoke a student charity’s nonprofit status. The veteran lawmaker, Rhode Island Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse, says the conservative student organization, Turning Point USA, should lose its nonprofit rating because it held large events that could help spread COVID-19. In a letter to IRS Commissioner Charles P. Rettig the senator describes the gatherings as “superspreader” events. the corruption from this regime just oozes like Slow Joe's ass oozes into his depends...

President Biden’s Treasury Secretary – Janet Yellen – signed an ethics agreement on December 29, 2020. By the end of January, she had already broken it.
The agreement, addressed to the U.S. Treasury’s ethics official Brian Sonlon, states:

“The purpose of this letter is to describe the steps that I will take to avoid any actual or apparent conflict of interest in the event that I am confirmed for the position of Secretary, Department of the Treasury. It is my responsibility to understand and comply with commitments outlined in this agreement.”

Within two weeks of the Biden regime taking power, however, Yellen was embroiled in an ongoing scandal surrounding GameStop shares and the companies who sought to profit by billions by first short-selling the stock, then attempting to lock retail users out of apps like Robinhood.

Yellen, 74, was described by Press Secretary Jen Psaki as, “monitoring the situation.” Psaki actually said:

“Well, I’m also happy to repeat that we have the first female Treasury Secretary and a team that’s surrounding her. And, often, questions about market we’ll send to them. But our team is, of course — our economic team, including Secretary Yellen and others, are monitoring the situation.”

But Yellen took hundreds of thousands of dollars in speaking fees from entities such as Citadel, one of the hedge funds seeking to benefit from manipulating the market while others are locked out.

In fact Yellen’s ethics agreement specifically mentions Citadel, which she took nearly a million dollars from in recent years.

Section 6 of her ethics agreement states that Yellen must receive a written authorization to participate personally and substantially in any particular matter involving parties such as Citadel. But Psaki insists Yellen is already dealing with the matter, and “monitoring the situation.” This falls under the description of “actual or apparent conflict of interest.”

Furthermore, Section 7 states:

With regard to each of these entities, I will not participate personally and substantially in any particular matter that to my knowledge has a direct and predictable effect on the financial interests of the entity until I have divested it, unless I first obtain a written waiver, pursuant to 18 U.S.C. § 208(b)(1), or qualify for a regulatory exemption, pursuant to 18 U.S.C. § 208(b)(2). I have verified that I will be able to carry out the divestitures within the timeframe described above.

Whichever way you slice it, Yellen appears to be in some serious trouble. If only Republicans on Capitol Hill would stop just waving Democratic nominees through and actually hold Cabinet nominees and appointees to account, we might see some action.
