Angela Jiang was getting ready to go to sleep when she received a text message around midnight Tuesday from a community leader she used to work with at a local Asian American advocacy group in Atlanta, asking her to join a call the next morning about shootings that were happening in the area.
This was the first Jiang had heard about any shootings, but she knew right away that whatever was happening must be affecting the Asian American community. The 24-year-old, who grew up in the Atlanta suburb of Gwinnett County and now lives in the city, began searching online for more information and quickly realized that some of the shootings had taken place at spas just five minutes from where she lives.

Add to list SUWANEE, Ga. — The Korean American teenagers gathered in a suburban Atlanta church Friday night and took turns reflecting on the mass shooting at three nearby spas a few days earlier that ended the lives of eight, including six Asian women. Those women reminded some members of the Atlanta Promise Church youth group of their own mothers and grandmothers, especially those who work long hours in nail salons, restaurants and other small businesses to provide their families with a comfortable, safe life in this stretch of a suburban county where the Asian American population has dramatically grown in recent years. A 16-year-old, tears rolling down her face, said she felt gripped with fear as she considered her vulnerability as an Asian American and as a woman. Another teenager wondered whether he was now closer to understanding the racial targeting experienced by many of his Black and Latino peers. Another young man considered how close the shooting was to his home. AD
“As hate increases, it feels like the connections to the victims are getting closer and closer to me and the people around me,” said Matthew Yun, 16. “And eventually, it could one day be me, or be someone close to me. That just brings a lot of fear.” Julie Mo, 16, added: “To see that happen to someone who could have been us makes me upset. . . . I already hate the baggage of being Asian, and being a woman makes it worse.”

Covid-19 vaccine manufacturers are ramping up production, churning out far more doses a week than earlier in the year, progress that is accelerating mass vaccination campaigns in the U.S.
After a slow start, Pfizer Inc., its partner BioNTech SE and Moderna Inc. have raised output by gaining experience, scaling up production lines and taking other steps like making certain raw materials on their own.
Pfizer figured out how to stretch scarce supplies of special filters needed for the vaccine production process by recycling them. Moderna shortened the time it needed to inspect and package newly manufactured vials of its vaccine.
The companies—along with Johnson & Johnson, which recently launched a Covid-19 vaccine—also are teaming up with other firms to further increase production.
In addition, the U.S. government has helped vaccine makers access supplies under the Defense Production Act, instead of building a wall, suppliers and government officials say. The Biden administration this month said it used the act to provide $105 million in funding to help Merck & Co. make doses of J&J’s Covid-19 vaccine and to expedite materials used in its production.

Yes, according to federal data, gas prices have mostly been going up since they bottomed out at $1.87 a gallon in late April 2020. With gas prices reaching $2.72 in late February 2021, that’s an increase of 45% within about 10 months.
Part of that has come on Biden’s watch — prices have risen about 10% since he took office in January 2021. The bulk of the increase came under Trump.
Are gas prices higher than they’ve been "in years"?
No. Today’s prices are the highest they’ve been in about 18 months.
Gas prices were similar to or higher than their current level for much of the time between October 2017 and January 2020 — that is, more than two years of Trump’s presidency. Prices were higher than today for all of the time between March 2018 and November 2018, and all of the time between April 2019 and August 2019.
RAND PAUL IS A SUB HUMAN PIECE OF SHIT!!!!!! With so many still vulnerable to covid.....early declaration of victory will just exacerbate the problem again....With Europe having another shut down.....it is not unreasonablle to speculate that the US could also suffer another major spike especially with spring break and the crowds!!!!!!!!

An asshole of exceptional proportions and an idol to dumb fuck rat!!!!!!!!
Well sometimes when you "cherry pick" statistics it makes thing look differently than how they really are.
Using the full 18 month chart:
- gas prices were $2.66/Gallon in Sept of 2019 - gas prices had fallen to about $2.43/Gallon before Covid - gas prices had recovered to around $2.20/Gallon by the election - gas prices were $2.31/Gallon on Jan 20th - gas prices today are $2.88/Gallon
Taking it one step further.
Gas prices when Trump became President? $2.38/Gallon
The fact of the matter is that Gas prices collapsed and then recovered because of Covid, not because of any economic policy. People stopped going anywhere and gas became cheap. People are now driving again. It's not anyone's fault that this happened and it's an irrelevant comparison.
What Biden inherited was about what we should have expected. Gas prices at approximately the same price as they were before Covid. They were also lower than when Trump became President.
But they have gone up over 50 cents a gallon in two months and that has nothing to do with Covid. They are now the highest that they have been for reasons having nothing to do with Covid.
So to pretend that the highest gas prices are the fault of Trump is just stupid and not even good statistical cherry picking because it completely ignored the fact that gas prices were still lower when Biden took over than they had been in a quite some time and lower than when Trump started in office.
The Center for Study of Hate & Extremism published a report documenting changes in hate crime patterns in 2020 in 16 American cities. In those 16 cities, which include most of the United States’ largest cities, anti-Asian hate crimes rose by 149% in 2020 while overall hate crimes dropped by seven percent.
In 2019, there were 49 documented cases of hate crimes with anti-Asian bias in those 16 cities, while in 2020 there were 122 such cases. The total number of hate crimes documented in those cities was 1,845 in 2019 and 1,717 in 2020.
While the sample size is small, the increase is clearly there. That’s more than double the number of hate crimes from the year before.

The U.S. government on Saturday was housing approximately 15,500 unaccompanied migrant minors, including 5,000 teenagers and children stranded in Border Patrol facilities not designed for long-term custody, according to government data reviewed by CBS News.
As of Saturday morning, more than 5,000 unaccompanied minors were being held in a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) tent holding facility in south Texas and other stations along the border with Mexico. According to the government records, unaccompanied children are spending an average of 136 hours in CBP custody, well beyond the 72-hour limit outlined in U.S. law.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) was also housing nearly 10,500 unaccompanied children in emergency housing facilities and shelters licensed by states to care for minors, department spokesperson Mark Weber told CBS News on Saturday.

I will go with the facts according to the actual gas prices and the rise and fall of them Roger...
Unlike you and your feeble brain, I can research this myself and not rely on a political hack to tell me what something is. And by the way the author of this story is not a statistician or a mathematician. He is a political scientist with some background in economics.
While I believe that he has some "almost" valid points and had he simply stood by those points it would be easier to take him seriously. But the fact that he quite literally starts off the concept by using the gas prices at the lowest levels of Covid makes it clear that he either doesn't understand statistics or more likely is using it in such a manner as to gas-light his readers.
For him to also suggest that this is normal because gas prices start to rise in the summer would be a great point... if January-March was actually Summer. But we are not anywhere near summer yet. Meaning, by his own admission there will be a natural rise from where we already are that will likely bring us well over $3.00 a gallon and back to levels we have not seen since Obama was President.
But hey Genius!
If you disagree with my comment, then please tell us in your own words how what I wrote was incorrect. Or just shut the fuck up and just admit you are not smart enough to do so!
Which is literally 12% higher today in a time when Covid is still reducing our demand for gas. Less travel, less traffic, less people going out, and way less people commuting to work. A reduce in demand should also show a reduce in cost of a good or service (Economics 101). If anything gas prices today should be at the lowest levels we have seen in years for this particular time period. At least that is what I would expect a person with an economics background to argue.
In may ways he is attempting to not really debunk whether Joe Biden is responsible for higher gas prices, but he is literally suggesting that they are not really rising or actually high for the time.
But at the end of the day, this is the problem with "fact checking" opinions. You are simply taking one person's opinion and attempting to override someone else's opinion. By writing under a blog that suggests you are a "fact checker" you attempt to make it "appear" that you are more credible, when in fact you are just providing an opinion like everyone else.
But then again... easily fooled sheep like Roger clings to anyone who claims to be a "fact checker" as if they are somehow smarter about literally everything than literally everyone else.
It would be better if you didn't need several paragraphs of opinions and speculation to arrive at a "fact".

Well sometimes when you "cherry pick" statistics it makes thing look differently than how they really are.
Using the full 18 month chart:
- gas prices were $2.66/Gallon in Sept of 2019
- gas prices had fallen to about $2.43/Gallon before Covid
- gas prices had recovered to around $2.20/Gallon by the election
- gas prices were $2.31/Gallon on Jan 20th
- gas prices today are $2.88/Gallon
Sometimes things are "actually" on Biden, Roger.
You cannot cherry pick his failures away.

Biden Border Crisis Intensifies
15,000+ Migrant Children in Custody
Explodes 477% From Peak
https://www.breitbart.com/immigration/2021/03/21/report-15000-migrant-children-now-held-in-u-s-custody-amid-border-surge/
The U.S. government on Saturday was housing approximately 15,500 unaccompanied migrant minors, including 5,000 teenagers and children stranded in Border Patrol facilities not designed for long-term custody, according to government data reviewed by CBS News.

Prices were higher than today for all of the time between March 2018 and November 2018, and all of the time between April 2019 and August 2019.
When the pandemic started demand for gasoline declined rapidly.
Now that the economy is growing, demand for gasoline has raised prices, but they are still lower than during the economic recovery, under the former.
Your cherry picking was easy to expose.
While the sample size is small, the increase is clearly there. That’s more than double the number of hate crimes from the year before.
and every single one of your "reports & studies" completely fails to report who is committing the assaults, leaving it to speculation and innuendo to imply that it is whites committing the crimes.
geezus alky, you liberals must think that those who consume this shit without question are really fucking gullible and really fucking stupid.
In NYC blacks attack Asians for sport, and have been doing so for fucking ever. same with the Jews. The 'knockout game' is a favorite pastime. One of my engineering colleagues is Chinese, lives in NYC, and we talked about this on Friday. While on the street or in the subway she doesn't worry at all about whites, but her head is on a swivel if there are any blacks around. Is she racist? No. Just realistic regarding the threats and who's responsible.
Of course you'll refute all this with your wealth of experience gained from your tiny hovel in Medicaid Acres.

hey alky,
when was the last time you visited a gas station? you know, to actually buy gas.
*jeopardy music playing softly in the background*
Which one is more viable?
Or just shut the fuck up and just admit you are not smart enough to do so!
or more likely is using it in such a manner as to gas-light his readers.
bingo.
politifact.com should change their URL to gaslight.com since that's all they ever do.
My other obvious criticism is claiming that gas prices today are "roughly in line with gas prices for the same time under Trump".
2017 2.45
2018 2.69
2019 2.50
2020 2.51
Average: 2.54
2021 2.84
