The real reason why Biden Administration will not allow the media to cover the border crisis!

Kids in cages on steroids!

To be fair, there were never really ever kids in "cages". The original detention centers had used chain linked fencing as the means for separation or in place of actual "wall" when they were originally built during the Obama administration. These were not dog crates that kids were locked in. They were simply separators in much the same way that offices use partial walling to separate groups or even individuals.

But of course, the concept of getting a picture of some pathetic looking child looking through chain link fence made great political fodder when you could use it to attack the bad orange man. Obviously the concept of the same buildings with the same chain link and the same pathetic kids was not as bad when it was Obama in charge.

But the real issue was never what was used within the buildings to separate the migrants. The real issue should be whether or not there can be adequate care for these people. The more people you pack into these facilities, the harder it is to keep humane conditions. Doesn't matter if you are using real walls, no walls, walls made of Legos, or chain link fencing. When you see how things look today in these detention centers you can get a real feel for the very real crisis that is brewing.

But this is precisely why our current Administration is attempting to hide it from the public. They created a crisis with their actions that should have been predictable to anyone with an IQ over room temperature. Unfortunately our President cannot walk up stairs, take questions, and can barely read from a teleprompter. One just wishes he surrounded himself with people who  have IQs over room temperature.

BBC - Biden's Border Crisis has ripped families apart by encouraging children to travel outside the family unit. Children are not refused entry but housed here supposedly for humanitarian purposes. It's everything but..

It also aids child sex trafficking.

It needed to never have been put in place by Biden.

And he shouldn't dither around for political strategizing but needs to fix it.

Immediately.

The Biden administration: unaccompanied minors can stay.

Now, there's a surge of unaccompanied minors at the border.

What did they think would happen?

Each of eight "pods" in the soft-sided facility has a ~260-person occupancy, said @RepCuellar who provided the photos to Axios. But as of Sunday, one pod held more than 400 unaccompanied male minors.

A tragic video appears to show young migrants drowning in the Rio Grande, a deadly turn in the escalating border crisis.

The footage, captured by fisherman Jesus Vargas, shows three people in the water near the border town of Laredo, Texas, with only their heads bobbing above the surface.

“You don’t have life jackets, nothing? They’re drowning, these guys!” Vargas is heard shouting at US Border Patrol agents standing on the shoreline nearby.

“That girl didn’t come out no more!” Vargas yells of one apparent victim.

He used his fishing reel to save one boy, about 13 years old, but he claims a woman and two teenage boys drowned.

Border Patrol said only two people died.

The incident took place after agents “foiled a human smuggling attempt,” the agency’s Laredo sector posted on Facebook.

The post said that agents saw several people attempt to swim across the river into Mexico and that some were taken into custody while others safely made it to the Mexican riverbank.

“Two individuals succumbed to the dangerous currents of the Rio Grande river and perished,” the statement said.

The double digit IQ truthers don't count.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President Joe Biden has averaged 56% job approval across three Gallup polls since taking office, including 54% in the latest survey from March 1-15. In addition to a yawning party gap, Biden's job ratings also differ significantly by gender, education, race and place of residence.

During the first two full months of his presidency, Biden has retained nearly unanimous approval from his fellow Democrats, averaging 96%, compared with 55% among independents and 10% among Republicans.

Approval of Biden is also high among Black (89%) and Hispanic (73%) Americans, while less than half of White Americans, 45%, evaluate his performance positively.

Other notable gaps are seen in Biden's job approval by gender, age and education. These differences primarily, though not entirely, reflect the party leanings of those groups:

62% of women and 49% of men approve of the job Biden is doing.

Biden's approval rating is 64% among college graduates and 51% among those without a four-year degree.

Slow Joe and Baghdad Bob are hiding something...

Responding to a call by Gov. Greg Abbott for access to immigrant children to ferret out human trafficking cases, Biden administration officials who spoke on condition of anonymity said Thursday that federal authorities are careful not to retraumatize the children by repeating their stories to every public official making a request.

The exchange came as 200 immigrant teen boys arrived at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in downtown Dallas Wednesday night from Border Patrol facilities. Rising numbers of immigrant minors travelling without a parent are being detained, and that flow of children and teens may surpass the last high cycle of 2019.

“They have faced persecution,” an administration official said on a media call. “They have had to flee for their own safety. And so we are very protective ... of making sure that children are not retraumatized by having to recount things they have faced to every public office who wishes to speak to them.”

Children and prospective caregivers are already screened as part of the vetting process, administration officials said.

Scott, there is a difference. I don't hate Trump, but unlike any other President he is the first President, in my opinion, was the greatest threat to the United States of America in history.

But you turned out to be wrong. He was not a threat. He did not start any wars. He did (in fact) act on Covid BEFORE Fauci and others said it was a threat. He put GREAT justices in place. He made our borders secure. He held gas prices down. Held inflation in check. Had record unemployment numbers for minorities. He bartered peace agreements in the Middle East. He held Russia and China at bay.

He literally did nothing wrong... other than upset people like you because you didn't "personally" like him.

I literally have nothing "personal" against Joe Biden. I don't believe he is a "bad orange man" or even care that he is a well known "racist" who argued that he didn't want bussing because it would make his children (Beau and Hunter) to grow up in a racial jungle. Because I figured he grew out of his racism.

But he has already fucked things up at the border and it's in full blown crisis. Russia, Iran, China and others are already pushing their limits. Peace agreements in the middle east are already in jeopardy. Gas prices are higher than they have been for this time of the year since Obama was President. We now have passed another 1.9 trillion dollar stimulus with no way to pay for it. We have an increase in violence.

On Friday night, a school board member also joined the calls for her colleague to step down.

Board Vice President Alison Collins, elected in 2018, said in a thread of tweets on Dec. 4, 2016, that Asian Americans had used “white supremacist thinking to assimilate and ‘get ahead.’” Collins explained in the thread that she was seeking to “combat anti-black racism in the Asian community” and “at my daughters’ mostly Asian Am school.”

If patriots ever want to really win, in the sense of having the people’s will enacted by a representative government, then we need a deep and sober understanding of all the bottlenecks in place that allow this second type of fraud to persist.

As to the filibuster issue, there’s only one fix for this kind of failure: Get rid of McConnell, and all other Republicans who use bogus procedural excuses to avoid delivering on their promises. Conservative nationalists deserve elected leaders who will actually deliver what they want. If the Republican Party isn’t willing to supply those leaders, then it must be torn down utterly, and rebuilt from better human material.

It might not occur to you, because you are not a bizarre wierdo, but a lot of people really love the pandemic. Not just the little fascist gnome who changes his #science advice more often than a Wellesley girl changes her preferences during her sophomore year experimental phase, and not just the fascist pols who get off on exploiting their emergency powers to boss people around, but even some regular people. The masks, the paranoia, the constant talk about vaccines – some people love this stuff.

This is their Woodstock.

And they never want it to end.

Why would anyone enjoy this idiocy? Limits on your freedom, hectoring pests, nitwits riding around in their Priuses with face diapers wrapped around their talk-holes… it’s an abomination. Yet there’s this slice of the populace that gets into it. They resist a return to normalcy because their normal lives were not that great to begin with and this is the most exciting thing that will ever happen to them.

People crave a challenge, and for a while one of the most challenging things about America was its utter lack of challenge. It’s generally safe here. You probably won’t get hurt, except by accidents or if you live in a big Democratic city, and only then if you find yourself in the wrong neighborhood. You won’t starve – even if you are a bum, someone is handing you a ham sandwich. You really have to go looking for danger, and people do. They get into extreme sports, or flirt with crime, join the military, or date a Cuban chick.

The hardworking people who built America and made it safe, secure, and prosperous, also made it, in some ways, empty. We inherited a paradise. We paid nothing, did nothing, and most importantly, we risked nothing. But human beings are designed to do all those things. And we never really got a chance to.

People need to be tested. They crave meaning. I merely oversaw a heavily-armed carwash during the Gulf War, but even then, being in a war zone as history happened around us, we all had this feeling of being alive unlike anything else we had ever experienced. I did not get it back until I was driving around riot-torn Los Angeles with an M16 rifle during the riots. I did not want there to be a war, or for the Democrats to encourage people to burn down their own communities, but I would not have rather been anywhere else.

That’s what the pandemic is for these people. It’s their war. It’s something that lets them transcend their boring lives.

Look at our entertainment. Dystopian tales are hugely popular in American culture (including mine). Take The Walking Dead (please, and far way). Before it became lousy and boring and woke, it was very popular. Why? Because people like zombies? No, because it showed our regular everyday America turned upside down and let people imagine, just for an hour a week, what they might do if the Schiff hit the fan and they had to struggle to survive.

And some Schiff sort of hit the fan under the pandemic. It was weird and sort of scary and, most importantly, it was different. The disease itself could actually kill you, though with a 99 percent survival rate for most healthy folks, the odds were generally in your favor (when I got it, it was like a slight cold). But there were the public manifestations of chaos. Going to a Trader Joe’s during the first days of the unprecedented lockdown, seeing the wine moms load up on hummus, ciabatta, and $5.99 screw-top Chardonnay as if they were anticipating the breakdown of the entire social fabric, was memorable. For once, things were not certain in America. And something within human beings responds to that uncertainty. We were designed to fight for survival, and even if that meant battling to be the one getting the last bag of frozen orange chicken, it was something.

The first is the filibuster, requiring 60 votes to pass regular legislation. Notably, the filibuster is not in the Constitution and not even in law. It’s a rule that has historically been used against civil rights and voting rights bills, as it was in the 1960s when LBJ narrowly overcame it.

Democrats can – and must — finally end it now, with their 51-vote majority.

But if they try, they face a second obstacle. Two Democratic senators – West Virginia’s Joe Manchin and Arizona’s Kyrsten Sinema – have said they won’t vote to end the filibuster, presumably because they want to preserve their centrist image and appeal to Republican voters in their states. A few other Democratic senators are lukewarm to the idea.

Well, I’m sorry. The stakes are too high. If Democrats fail to enact the “For the People Act,” Republicans will send voting rights into retreat for decades. There’s no excuse for Manchin and Sinema or any other Senate Democrat letting Republicans pull America backwards towards Jim Crow.

“A year after ending her own presidential bid, and with her aspirations of becoming Treasury secretary unfulfilled, Ms. Warren now wields influence in her own way. She has shepherded a pipeline of progressive former staff members into powerful jobs across the government, and she releases a steady stream of legislative proposals that have kept her progressive ideas at the forefront of the policy conversation.

“Two months into the Biden presidency, it is not yet clear how much Ms. Warren’s sway will yield in terms of policy results. But many of her ideas for raising trillions of dollars of revenue by taxing the wealthy and big corporations will soon take center stage as the Biden administration and Congress consider ways to pay for the multitrillion-dollar infrastructure plan that they hope to pass this year.”

CAMP SPRINGS, MD—As Air Force One returned to Andrew’s Air Force Base Sunday, observers noted a small blue handicapped parking pass displayed in the window of the cockpit.

Press members in attendance also noted that the plane taxied off the runway before stopping in a handicap space in the parking lot. President Biden eventually exited the plane via a hydraulic lift rather than the traditional staircase.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki was asked if the new parking permit had anything to do with the President’s recent fall on the stairs of Air Force One.
“Absolutely not," Psaki said. “The President slipped because he was hit with a hurricane-force wind burst caused by global warming. There was also some, uh, fried chicken grease left over from the Trump administration that made the steps extra slippery.”

Psaki said the addition of the handicap parking pass was actually due to Biden’s exceptional physical condition. “President Biden is so fit and virile, his staff has trouble keeping up with him,” Psaki explained. “Using a lift slows him down a bit so his security detail has time to catch up.”

Psaki then noted that the President was given a precautionary physical after his fall and has been given a clean bill of health. “The President is in peak physical and mental health,” she said. “He will have no issues discharging the duties of his office for the remaining 3.5 months of his term.”

There is a clear next step in changing the Senate filibuster: Vice President Kamala Harris, as presiding officer of the Senate, can — and should — declare the current Senate filibuster rule unconstitutional. This would open the door for discussions on a new rule that would respect the minority without giving it an unconstitutional veto.

In 1957, Vice President Richard Nixon, sitting as presiding officer of the Senate, issued two advisory opinions holding that a crucial provision of the Senate’s filibuster rule — requiring two-thirds vote to amend it — was unconstitutional. Nixon’s constitutional determination was reaffirmed by subsequent vice presidents Hubert Humphrey and Nelson Rockefeller. In fact, it was this ruling that allowed both the Democratic-controlled Senate in 2013 and the Republican-controlled Senate in 2017 by a simple majority vote to eliminate filibusters for all executive and judicial nominees.

Harris possesses the same power to rule that the current version of the Senate filibuster, which essentially establishes a 60-vote supermajority rule to enact legislation in the Senate, is unconstitutional because it denies states “equal Suffrage in the Senate” in violation of Article V of the Constitution.

Wyoming with 580,000 inhabitants, elects the same number of senators as California, with its 40 million residents. A person in Wyoming thus has 65 times more voting power in the Senate than a person living in California. The current 60-vote filibuster rule makes this imbalance even worse.

Under the 60-vote rule, 41 senators representing about a third of the population can outweigh 59 senators representing two-thirds. This situation surely violates the principle of equal representation in voting — for example, the “one person, one vote” rule that the Supreme Court long ago applied to state legislative and congressional districts.

Everyone agrees that the text of the Constitution does not allow for simply giving California more senators than Wyoming. Nor can the Senate’s lack of representative fairness be cured by adopting internal Senate voting rules. But that does not mean the Senate has authority to create even more unfairness than already exists.

At the same time, discussions could begin about what a constitutional rule protecting the Senate minority might look like. Perhaps the Senate would choose to abandon the filibuster. Or it might adopt a rule requiring strenuous effort — like demanding that a senator get on the floor and actually talk to prevent a bill from proceeding to a vote — which could limit the occasion of filibusters. Or it might require successively lower votes to end the filibuster, initially 60, then 55, and then just a majority.

Eliminating the filibuster now would benefit the Democrats, but it would help the Republicans the next time they control the Senate. Harris can move this forward by following the example of her predecessors by making a constitutional ruling that the current filibuster rule needs to be changed.

Erwin Chemerinsky is dean of the UC Berkeley School of Law

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

In fact, Article I of the Constitution does not appear to permit a broad 60-vote supermajority rule. That article sets forth supermajority votes in the Senate only in narrowly defined cases like ratifying treaties, overturning presidential vetoes and convicting impeached officials. The strong implication is that, unless the action falls into these narrow exceptions, the Senate should operate by majority rule. Article I says nothing about a general supermajority requirement for the enactment of all legislation in the Senate.

And while the 17th Amendment revolutionized the Senate by shifting the election of senators from state legislators to the voters, it preserved the founders’ decision to give each state two senators with equal voting rights. But a 60-vote supermajority rule destroys the mathematical equality of each senator’s vote.

We believe that the best way forward is for Harris to rule that the current version of the Senate filibuster operates as an unconstitutional 60-vote supermajority requirement for the enactment of general legislation —in violation of Article V, the 17th Amendment and the constitutional presumption of majority rule. Such a ruling would trigger two events.

The full Senate could seek to overrule Harris by majority vote. In that case, the senators would no longer be debating the filibuster as mere political policy, but about a profound constitutional question. Sen. Joe Manchin, and a Republican senator or two, might well care about ensuring that no state is deprived of “equal suffrage” under the Constitution.

Why Vaccine Diplomacy Should Happen Now
Philip Bump:
“To put it bluntly: The total number of vaccines secured by the United States is almost twice the number needed to vaccinate everyone,
even after considering that most of the vaccines require two doses for full effectiveness.

“Again, it’s understandable why the government would want to make sure that Americans were able to get a sufficient number of effective vaccines before pledging to share them with other countries. But that’s the other cloud hanging out there. The longer it takes to reach herd immunity globally, the more possible it is that a variant of the virus will emerge that renders the vaccines ineffective.

“Hence the calls to be as generous as possible as soon as possible.”

“While Biden did withdraw one nominee that he had designated Cabinet-level — Neera Tanden, who he had selected as his budget chief — the people now serving atop all the major administration agencies are his first pick.”

WOW. YOU ARE ALL SO JEALOUS OF HIM. AND EFFECTIVE CHIEF EXECUTIVE.

ANOTHER SUCCESS STORY:
CNN REPORTS:
Sanders Will Try Reconciliation for Drug Reforms

:
Sen. Bernie Sanders “is set to unveil a trio of bills designed to lower the cost of prescription drugs and give American consumers access to the competitive global drug market.

“One bill is designed to index the price of popular drugs according to the global market.
A second will give Medicare the opportunity to pay for drugs through a competitive bidding process,
and the third would allow Americans to buy drugs at cheaper prices from foreign sellers.

“From his perch as Budget Committee chairman, Sanders wields a powerful weapon. He is able to push through legislation through the reconciliation process, which allows bills, which directly impact the federal budget, to pass the Senate with a simple majority.”

For those concerned with U.S. national security, several recent intelligence reports have been sobering. The Department of Homeland Security, for example, issued a terrorism bulletin a couple of months ago, warning about violent extremists being motivated by "perceived grievances fueled by false narratives" -- an apparent reference to Donald Trump's anti-election rhetoric.

Last week, an assessment from the U.S. intelligence community went considerably further, alerting the public to the fact that "narratives of fraud" in the 2020 presidential election, among other things, "will almost certainly spur some [domestic violence extremists] to try to engage in violence this year."

It was against this backdrop that the former president issued his latest written statement over the weekend, which read in part:

"Sadly the Election was Rigged, and without even going into detail, of which there is much, totally game changing. Democrats could not get Republican Legislatures in Swing States to approve many of the voting changes which took place before the Election, which is mandated under the Constitution of the United States. For that reason alone, we had an Illegitimate Election. The Supreme Court and other Courts were afraid to rule, they were 'gutless,' and will go down in history as such."

If a Democratic President said that Scott would screen impeachment

To be sure, the way in which this was written is distracting. Trump, who appears to have had a direct hand in crafting the statement, can't shake his idiosyncratic approach to capitalization, quotation marks, and other elements of grammar.

More important, of course, was the Republican's brazenness toward electoral reality. Note, for example, that the former president claims to be aware of "totally game changing" details on the corruption of the 2020 election, though Trump isn't "going into" it.

In other words, Trump could prove his hopelessly bonkers conspiracy theories regarding his election defeat, and he could share his "totally game changing" evidence, but he's choosing not to.

Sure, big guy, whatever you say.

But it's the larger context that's most alarming. It was literally last week when the U.S. intelligence community warned Americans that "narratives of fraud" will "almost certainly" lead some domestic violence extremists to "try to engage in violence" -- not on some far-away horizon, but in 2021.

As the public came to terms with this assessment, Donald Trump decided it would be a good time to issue another public statement, in service of his Big Lie, falsely insisting that the election was both "rigged" and "illegitimate."

There's a difference between Trump's exasperating nonsense and lies that put Americans at risk. Statements like the one.

So we already have two mass shootings in two months under a president who hides from the press and the public, with no press conference, no SOTU, allowing no reporters to the mess on the border that he created his first day in office. Even 5he liberal media is fed up with the lies and lack of transparency. And we have a president too old to climb stairs and too far along with dementia to remember that Harris is vice president not president.

This administration could end up as the worst in U.S. history.

This is unacceptable, even from this President.

Border Patrol has become overwhelmed trying to rapidly gather information and screen migrant families at already overcrowded border holding areas before deciding whether to release, detain or expel them. Agents are on pace to reach a 20-year high in the number of migrants they encounter on the border, mostly in the Rio Grande Valley: More than 130,000 since the fiscal year started in October, more than they saw there in all of the previous year.

Hondurans and Guatemalans who crossed the U.S. border illegally spend time temporarily at a shelter in Mission, Texas.

( Los Angeles Times)

At the same time, the Mexican state opposite the Rio Grande Valley, Tamaulipas, has refused to allow the U.S. to send back many families with children under age 7, migrant advocates said. During the past month, hundreds of families have been released daily in the Rio Grande Valley, 350 on Sunday in McAllen, Texas, alone, according to migrant advocates. Last weekend, Border Patrol began expediting families’ release by eliminating notices to appear in immigration court for many, stirring confusion.

When President Obama left office, illegal immigration was at a 50 years old low.

President Biden has to do better than this.

The senate sits at a 50-50 tie with the cum dumpster as the tie breaker specifically because the American people voted as such. And don't even get started on the hypocrisy of it all. Just a couple of years ago democrats begged to keep the filibuster. Now they demand to blow it the fuck up.

If Biden’s Senile Like They Say, Then Why’s He Running Circles Around the Right?

This Thursday, America gets its long-awaited moment as Joe Biden holds his first press conference as president. Actually, I doubt most people care. I did not sense at my daughter’s soccer game Sunday that the assembled parents were consumed with thoughts of the presidential debut; not a single person has mentioned it on the neighborhood list-serv.

But there’s one group of people who can’t wait—the right-wingers who’ve convinced themselves, although thankfully not the rest of America, that Biden has advanced dementia and has lost his marbles and is supposedly under intense sedation that the press is covering up as he robotically mouths the words that Kamala or Bernie or AOC have instructed him to speak. They’ve been waiting for this moment just like they waited for the debates against Trump that were finally going to prove to America that Biden wasn’t all the way there. And now Biden is there, in the White House, and Trump is an afterthought. Same thing Thursday: If Biden answers questions with basic cohesion, he’s cleared the low bar that these conservatives have set with their dumb, phony claims.

It’s really hilarious and pathetic. The modern American right is, in a democratic context (i.e., no state-run media, no secret police, etc.), history’s most powerful, ruthless, and effective attack machine. Yet they can’t lay a glove on Biden. It makes them insane. And of all the things to like so far about the Biden era, the solid appointments and the progressive goals and the amazing relief bill and so on, this is easily my favorite thing.

The American right wing is bad at pretty much everything. They can’t govern, as they’ve proven many times. George W. Bush nearly destroyed global capitalism. Donald Trump effectively killed a couple hundred thousand Americans who would not have died of COVID if we’d had a competent president. So they can’t run stuff.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

They also can’t legislate; they had two years when Trump was first in there, and they passed only one bill of any consequence (the tax cut), which was horrible and unpopular.

And except in deep red states, they can’t win an election without cheating. In purple states across the country right now, Republicans are inventing more and more ways to keep certain people from voting and after the Census they’ll draw corrupt congressional district lines that will dramatically improve their chances of taking back the House.

The only thing they’re good at is lying about and smearing Democrats. But they’re really good at that. They have to be. Their policies, such as they are, on most issues are supported by only about 35 or 40 percent of the people, so to have a chance to win, they have to convince 10 or 15 percent of the public that Democrats hate them, as well as Jesus and the flag and the military and the police and football and straight people and country music and macaroni salad and cigarettes and non-designer beer.

They’re skilled at finding the flaw of the Democrat in question and turning it into a capital crime, even if that “flaw” is sometimes merely that the person is Black or a woman or gay. So while the Democrat is trying to talk policy, the right is busy othering the Democrat to death and convincing “normal” Americans that said Democrat has contempt for them and their simple, uncomplicated, un-cosmopolitan values.

But none of this touches Biden, a man who is exactly what he seems. Whatever normal means these days, he’s that. He’s patriotic in the same straightforward and uncomplicated way many conservatives are. He reveres the military. He’s religious. He goes to Mass nearly every weekend, and sometimes during the week. And he’s just a nice man. You could picture him at the grill on the Fourth of July firing up the weenies while the grandkids light their sparklers.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Nobody believed he wanted to defund the police. Nobody believed he was corrupt—if you’ve been in public life for 50 years and no scandal has attached itself to you, you’re probably pretty clean. And nobody believes he’s a socialist.

That leaves the right with one thing: his age.

But as the field winnowed and it wasn’t 10 people all attacking him, he got sharper. And once he was the nominee and was out on the COVID-era hustings, he did fine. And he did fine in his debates with Trump and was generally judged to have won them. So when Rudy Giuliani pushed his “dementia” argument last October, it didn’t take either. If anyone looked like he was flirting with dementia, it was the guy with hair dye running down the side of his face as he screamed lies about voter fraud that never happened.

But it’s all they got. So it’s a running meme on Hannity and other Fox News shows that Biden is ready for the glue factory. So when Biden trips as he did the other day while boarding Air Force One, it’s proof that he’s about to fall apart. It’s just like what they did to Hillary when she fainted at that 9/11 service. Geez, how come Democrats keep nominating mentally deteriorating people who are most likely at death’s door?

Of course, Hence, they’ll be teeing up this week’s news conference so that, should Biden make a rhetorical stumble, they’ll be ready to pounce with the “proof” that he’s secretly senile. Good luck with that.

It is true that Biden hasn’t had much contact with the press. I doubt however that it’s all that much less than most presidents. It’s a dramatic contrast to Trump, of course, because Trump was before the public constantly. But Trump wasn’t before the public constantly because he felt a democratic responsibility to inform the people; he was before the public constantly because he needed to be the center of attention at all times. And he sure carried out his own assaults on the English language on a regular basis (remember oranges/origins?). If Trump had been a liberal Democrat, Fox and CH would have been demanding for years that he be institutionalized.

But Biden floats above their sewage. Now, there’s a downside to this from a liberal point of view, which is that the fact that Biden is so completely un-other-able carries the implication that maybe Democrats need to keep nominating straight white men who look like somebody’s uncle, and if they depart from that, they do so at their peril. There may be something to that. But look, Obama got himself elected and re-elected. The country is changing. If Biden somehow manages to serve two terms, the electorate in 2028 will be younger, Blacker, browner, and presumably somewhat more secular than today’s. The right will follow the usual playbook, but that doesn’t mean it will work.

Sorry, right wing. Americans kind of like Joe Biden. A lot more than they liked Donald Trump. So I’m not too worried about the press conference. And beyond that... well, I tripped across a photo recently of Vice President Biden in the Oval Office with Obama and Treasury Secretary Jack Lew. The photo made me laugh out loud. Biden was wearing—wait for it—a tan suit. I can’t wait till he breaks that one

It would be slightly easier to take Republicans seriously if they weren't so fucking childish to begin with..

This describes the root cause of the GOP's not giving a shit about anything!!!!!

Opinion by
Michael Gerson

Add to list
A political movement will either police its extremes or be defined by them.
Disapproval from opponents is easy to dismiss as mere partisanship. It is through self-criticism that a political party defines and patrols the boundaries of its ideological sanity.
This is the reason the case of Sen. Ron Johnson (Wis.) remains so instructive and disturbing. Johnson is a Republican who prefers his racism raw. He recently described the majority-White crowd protesting on Jan. 6 (some of whom stormed the Capitol and assaulted police officers) as “people that love this country, that truly respect law enforcement, would never do anything to break the law.” Meanwhile, he would have been “concerned” by an approaching crowd of “tens of thousands of Black Lives Matter and antifa protesters.” So: Whites who propagate a destructive lie, attack the democratic process and commit violence are Johnson’s kind of people; African Americans who protest a history of injustice are a scary horde.
AD
There have always been bigots with access to a microphone. But in this case, Johnson did not face the hygienic repudiation of his party. Republican leaders preferred a different strategy: putting their fingers in their ears and humming loudly. Republicans have abolished their ideological police.
The reason is simple. After four years of Donald Trump, Johnson’s sentiments are not out of the Republican mainstream. They are an application of the prevailing Republican ideology — that the “real” America is under assault by the dangerous other: Violent immigrants. Angry Blacks. Antifa terrorists. Suspicious Muslims. And don’t forget “the China virus.”
Trump did not create such views. But he normalized them in an unprecedented fashion. Under Trump’s cover, this has been revealed as the majority position of Republicans, or at least engaged, activist Republicans. A recent New York Times poll found 65 percent of people who identify with the GOP to still be Trump “die-hards,” Trump “boosters” or captive to conspiracy theories. And most of the rest find nothing disqualifying in Trump’s pathologically divisive performance as president.

WASHINGTON — More than 200,000 Americans flocked to the Affordable Care Act’s online marketplace to sign up for health insurance during the first two weeks of an open enrollment period created by President Biden — a sign that those who lost insurance during the pandemic remain in desperate need of coverage.

At the same time, a provision in the president’s $1.9 trillion stimulus law to make Medicaid expansion more fiscally appealing has prompted deeply conservative Alabama and Wyoming to consider expanding the government health program to residents who are too rich to qualify now but too poor to afford private health plans.

That's another two states rrb will call them RINOS now

Eleven years after President Barack Obama signed his signature domestic achievement, and after several near-death experiences, the health law is again expanding.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Biden’s not going to make that same mistakes Obama did. He knows that when you’ve got the power, you’ve got to use it before you lose it. Having secured the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package, Biden now plans to move on infrastructure, voting rights, climate change, and other priorities. If Republicans want to come onboard, fine, but Biden has determined to plough ahead with or without them.

Unless the border crisis is handled soon, it could derail the Biden railroad forward.

The legislation, which President Donald Trump signed into law, was a bureaucratic nesting doll that ran over 5,500 pages and contained the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021, which itself carried an unusual provision in its “committee comment” section, beneath the understated heading “Advanced Aerial Threats.”

The stipulation mandates that the director of national intelligence work with the secretary of defense on a report detailing everything the government knows about unidentified flying objects — known in agency lingo as “unidentified aerial phenomena” or “anomalous aerial vehicles.”

Administration officials caution that details of the spending programs remain in flux. But the scope of the proposal under consideration highlights the aggressive approach the Biden administration wants to take as it tries to harness the power of the federal government to narrow economic inequality, reduce the carbon emissions that drive climate change and improve American manufacturing and high-technology industries in an escalating battle with China and other foreign competitors.

The Post wrote: That effort is expected to be broken into two parts — one focused on infrastructure, and the other focused on other domestic priorities, such as universal prekindergarten, national child care, and free community college tuition. The infrastructure component of the proposal includes $400 billion in spending to combat climate change, including $60 billion for infrastructure related to green transit and $46 billion for climate-related research and development. The plan also would aim to make electric vehicle charging stations available across the country. The measure would also include $200 billion for housing infrastructure, including $100 billion to expand the supply of housing for low-income Americans.

The State has invested in jury consultant Christina Marinakis to advise the numerous lawyers working to put Chauvin away. She has been in court at counsel table every day so far. Given the fact that the average Hennepin County juror comes in with a negative attitude to Chauvin and a hostile opinion of his conduct in the famous video, I wonder why her services are necessary.

They are necessary because, whatever the outcome, Attorney General Keith Ellison doesn’t want his handling of the case to be second-guessed. He wants to be able to say he did everything in his power to convict Chauvin of the murder of George Floyd. After all, he’s up for reelection next year.

I take it from the examination conducted so far that the optimal juror for the prosecution is a public school teacher. Defense counsel Eric Nelson has rightly struck the two who have been called for voir dire. They would have been a nightmare for the defense.
