Only one thing.

George Floyd is an example.

He was raised in an area where the public schools were underfunded, unfortunately it still happens. He couldn't get into college.

A large percentage of African Americans are raised in poverty, for many reasons, but that's not the issue.

Because a higher percentage of thm don't get a good education, so when they are tested, they too often score lower than white folks.

The fact that more people of color have lower scores is the lack of education, not the color of their skin.

Senate Republicans formally rolled out the framework for their $568 billion counterproposal to President Biden's $2.5 trillion infrastructure plan on Thursday.

Why it matters: The package is far narrower than anything congressional Democrats or the White House would agree to, but it serves as a marker for what Republicans want out of a potential bipartisan deal.

Between the lines: Biden insists he wants his "American Jobs Plan" to pass with bipartisan votes and go through regular order in the Senate, meaning it would need at least 10 GOP senators to sign on.

The administration has invited a number of Republican lawmakers to the White House over the past several weeks in a sign of sincerity of Biden's pledge. But even without Republican support, Biden and the Democratic-controlled Senate could opt to pass the bill via the budget reconciliation process, which would only require a simple majority vote. Having this tool at their disposal has made many Republicans wary of whether Biden will stay committed to his pledge of reaching across the aisle. So a group of Senate Republicans, led by Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.), the ranking Republican on the Environment and Public Works Committee, crafted a scaled-down infrastructure plan that they argue could pass with bipartisan support.Other Senate co-sponsors include Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), Pat Toomey (R-Pa.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), and John Barrasso (R-Wyo.).

What they're saying: "A billion dollars is a lot of money," Wicker said at a press conference unveiling the framework. "$568 billion is a very, very generous offer in dealing with infrastructure."

Details: The Republicans' package focuses on the elements in the first part of Biden's Build Back Better agenda — building up America's roads, bridges, airports and ports, or what the GOP calls "traditional" infrastructure.

It also includes provisions on expanded broadband, particularly in rural areas, and building up water infrastructure. The GOP framework calls for the government to fully cover the cost of the bill "to avoid increasing the debt."Republican senators argue the bill should repurpose some of the $350 billion sent out to state and local governments in the "American Rescue Plan," as well as encourage private sector investment to help pay for the package.

What's absent: The parts of Biden's bill that Republicans largely consider a "progressive wishlist" — including provisions meant to tackle climate change and promote racial equality.

____

If they actually negotiate with both sides we will prevail in the future.

They want to exclude climate change from their package.

That's politics, not science.

Taxes on the rich should go up at least 7%.

The Republicans are hypocritical on deficit spending. The former set records on deficit spending.

George Floyd went to South Florida Community College on a football scholarship and played football and basketball. Then he transferred to Texas A&M where he played basketball.

Yeah... he dropped out before graduating to become a Rapper under the name "Big Floyd". But was provided for the most part a free ride through college.

Three years later he was serving the first of his eight jail terms and has been in and out of rehab pretty much for the past 15 years or so. He was arrested or detained more than once (but never charged) after moving to Minneapolis.

So reality her Roger is that George Floyd was provided ample opportunity to lead a clean life. He had schooling, a music career, and other chances.

Not that this makes him a bad guy in general or that he couldn't have cleaned up his life or that he "deserved" to die. But the choices he made as a young adult to quit college, join the rapper scene, getting arrested, etc... was his choice.

Not something pushed on him by society.

Closing the black-white test score gap would probably do more to promote racial equality in the United States than any other strategy now under serious discussion. Judging by the currently available statistical evidence, eliminating the test score gap would sharply increase black college graduation rates, making them nearly equal to white rates. Such a change would also allow selective colleges to phase out racial preferences in admission, which have long been a flashpoint for racial conflict. Eliminating the test score gap would also reduce racial disparities in men’s earnings and would probably eliminate the racial disparities in women’s earnings.

Narrowing the test score gap would require continuous effort by both blacks and whites, and it would probably take more than one generation. But we think it can be done. This conviction rests on three facts.

First, black-white differences in academic achievement have narrowed since 1970. The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) data on 17-year-olds show that the reading gap narrowed more than two-fifths between 1971 and 1994. The math gap has also narrowed, though not as much. Five major national surveys of high school seniors conducted since 1965 show the same trend. So do surveys of younger students. The gap narrowed because black children’s scores rose, not because white children’s scores fell.

Second, even IQ scores clearly respond to changes in the environment. IQ scores, for example, have risen dramatically throughout the world since the 1930s. In America, 82 percent of those who took the Stanford-Binet test in 1978 scored above the 1932 average for individuals of the same age. The average black did about as well on the Stanford-Binet test in 1978 as the average white did in 1932.

Third, when black or mixed-race children are raised in white rather than black homes, their pre-adolescent test scores rise dramatically. These adoptees’ scores seem to fall in adolescence, but this could easily be because their social and cultural environment comes to resemble that of other black teenagers.

There is a great recent story of a black man raised in poverty

Clarence Thomas was born in the tiny coastal town of Pin Point, Georgia, on June 23, 1948. As a very young boy he lived in a one-room shack with dirt floors and no plumbing. When Thomas was two years old, his father walked out on the family. As a result, at the age of seven he and his younger brother were sent to live with their grandfather, Myers Anderson, and his wife in Savannah, Georgia. Anderson, a devout Catholic and active member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), sent Thomas to a Catholic school staffed by nuns.

In remarks reported by Jet magazine, Thomas has said that he grew up speaking Gullah, a creole dialect spoken by African Americans on the coastal islands of the southeastern United States.
...
helped found the Black Student Union at Holy Cross

https://www.notablebiographies.com/St-Tr/Thomas-Clarence.html

I read his outstanding biography and remembered he had many "radical" black friends (famous but I don't remember who). When he graduated (he was a top student) he couldn't get a job. Top law firms at the time assumed he was a "token". He eventually got one job offer, from the Senator from Missouri (Dansworth sp?) and the rest is history.

I was looking forward to watching his recent documentary film "Created Equal: Clarence Thomas in His Own Words"

Amazon ( Whose Jeff Bezos owns the Washington Post and is prolific Trump hater) pulled it from it's streaming service

During Black History Month.

The dems are still racist at the core while politically trying to keep blacks on the plantation.

Systematic Racism exists

In reverse.

In short, the criminal justice system did not behave like an institution shot through with anti-black bias. It exposed the truth.

Yet President Joe Biden took the occasion of the conviction to recycle his favorite “white supremacy” themes from his allegedly “unifying” inaugural speech and campaign rhetoric. Floyd’s murder “ripped the blinders off for the whole world to see the systemic racism . . . that is a stain our nation’s soul; the knee on the neck of justice for Black Americans; the profound fear and trauma, the pain, the exhaustion that Black and brown Americans experience every single day,” Biden said from the White House. The “summer of protest” had sent the message, according to Biden: “Enough. Enough. Enough of the senseless killings.”

Biden was not referring to the senseless killing of seven-year-old Jaslyn Adams, gunned down in a Chicago McDonald’s over the weekend. He was not referring to the four dozen black children who were killed last year in their beds, front porches, back porches, at barbecues and family birthday parties, and in their parents’ cars. He was not referring to the dozens of blacks killed every day in drive-by shootings—more than all white and Hispanic homicide victims combined—even though blacks are only 12 percent of the nation’s population. Those thousands of black deaths get no attention from the Black Lives Matter movement and its most fervent press acolytes because the homicide perpetrators are other blacks, not the police or whites.

Biden, rather, was referring to a phantom idea: that blacks have to “worry about whether their sons or daughters will come home after a grocery store run or just walking down the street or driving their car or playing in the park or just sleeping at home.” This would be an accurate statement if it referenced the terrorism of neighborhood gangs and their stupefyingly mindless retaliatory shootings. It is a falsehood, however, directed at the police. In 2020, the police fatally shot 18 allegedly unarmed blacks (unarmed being defined extremely loosely to include suspects grabbing an officer’s gun or fleeing in a car with a loaded pistol on the seat). That represents 0.2 percent of all blacks who died of homicide in 2020, and an infinitesimal percentage of the 40 million blacks in the U.S. If the police ended all fatal shootings tomorrow, it would have a negligible effect on the black death-by-homicide rate, which is 13 times higher than the white death-by-homicide rate for decedents between the ages of ten and 43.

Yet immediately after the verdict, Barack Obama repeated the same fiction, one that he in fact had pioneered during his presidency: that black Americans rightly “live in fear” that their next encounter with law enforcement will be their last. Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan’s tweet that Minnesota is a place where it is not safe to be black (because of the police) is an equal betrayal of the truth.

Murder rates soar dramatically in cities after BLM protests with up to 6,000 extra deaths nationwide - massively outweighing the decline in police shootings, researcher finds

UMass PhD candidate Travis Campbell published findings in a pre-print study
Found that police shootings drop 15% to 20% in cities with large BLM protests
That equates to about 300 fewer police shootings nationwide over five years
But murder rates rose 10%, an increase of 1,000 to 6,000 additional homicides
The exact reason for the increase in murders remains a subject of study
Campbell suggests that a decrease in police enforcement could be to blame
He stresses that comparing murders to police killings is 'apples to oranges'

But the radical Left has proved resilient and enduring—which is where critical race theory comes in.

Critical race theory is an academic discipline, formulated in the 1990s and built on the intellectual framework of identity-based Marxism. Relegated for many years to universities and obscure academic journals, it has increasingly become the default ideology in our public institutions over the past decade. It has been injected into government agencies, public school systems, teacher training programs, and corporate human-resources departments, in the form of diversity-training programs, human-resources modules, public-policy frameworks, and school curricula.

Its supporters deploy a series of euphemisms to describe critical race theory, including “equity,” “social justice,” “diversity and inclusion,” and “culturally responsive teaching.” Critical race theorists, masters of language construction, realize that “neo-Marxism” would be a hard sell. Equity, on the other hand, sounds non-threatening and is easily confused with the American principle of equality. But the distinction is vast and important. Indeed, critical race theorists explicitly reject equality—the principle proclaimed in the Declaration of Independence, defended in the Civil War, and codified into law with the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. To them, equality represents “mere nondiscrimination” and provides “camouflage” for white supremacy, patriarchy, and oppression.

In contrast to equality, equity as defined and promoted by critical race theorists is little more than reformulated Marxism. In the name of equity, UCLA law professor and critical race theorist Cheryl Harris has proposed suspending private property rights, seizing land and wealth, and redistributing them along racial lines. Critical race guru Ibram X. Kendi, who directs the Center for Antiracist Research at Boston University, has proposed the creation of a federal Department of Antiracism. This department would be independent of (i.e., unaccountable to) the elected branches of government, and would have the power to nullify, veto, or abolish any law at any level of government and curtail the speech of political leaders and others deemed insufficiently “antiracist.”

One practical result of the creation of such a department would be the overthrow of capitalism, since, according to Kendi, “In order to truly be antiracist, you also have to truly be anti-capitalist.” In other words, identity is the means; Marxism is the end.

Yahoo news has announced that the Post Office will be the KGB under Sleepy Joe Biden!

The law enforcement arm of the U.S. Postal Service has been quietly running a program that tracks and collects Americans’ social media posts, including those about planned protests, according to a document obtained by Yahoo News.

The details of the surveillance effort, known as iCOP, or Internet Covert Operations Program, have not previously been made public. The work involves having analysts trawl through social media sites to look for what the document describes as “inflammatory” postings and then sharing that information across government agencies.

“Analysts with the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) Internet Covert Operations Program (iCOP) monitored significant activity regarding planned protests occurring internationally and domestically on March 20, 2021,” says the March 16 government bulletin, marked as “law enforcement sensitive” and distributed through the Department of Homeland Security’s fusion centers. “Locations and times have been identified for these protests, which are being distributed online across multiple social media platforms, to include right-wing leaning Parler and Telegram accounts.”

Extra Bonus Quote of the Day
“If there’s a dubious spotlight, you can bet Josh Hawley will do anything to be standing in the middle of it.”
— Missouri state Rep. Emily Weber (D), the first Asian American elected to the Missouri General Assembly, quoted by the Kansas City Star, on Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) being the lone Senator to vote against anti-Asian hate crimes legislation.

Example:
Senate Overwhelmingly Passes Asian Hate Bill

The Senate passed with a wide bipartisan majority Thursday a bill denouncing discrimination against Asian communities in the United States, CNN reports.

The vote was 94-1. The lone vote in opposition was from Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO).

Why Biden Is Likely to Win Back Latinos
Ronald Brownstein:
“Since 1980, almost every incumbent president won a higher share of the vote among Latinos in their reelection campaign than they did in their first race. (The sole exception was George H. W. Bush, whose vote share fell when he sought reelection in a three-way race during the economic downturn of 1992.) Compared to the other incumbent presidents, Trump’s gains from 2016 to 2020 were about average or a little better than average, depending on which data source you use.

Said Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ):
“Latinos will always vote for an incumbent at a higher rate than they did last time. It’s driven by respect for authority, a certain level of patriotism, too, and a belief that we don’t want to change ships in the middle of a crisis.”

“The Trump administration put up bureaucratic obstacles that stalled approximately $20 billion in hurricane relief for Puerto Rico and then obstructed an investigation into the holdup, according to an inspector general report.”

Scott will say that the Republicans have been gaslighted by the Asian Americans!

WASHINGTON — The Senate overwhelmingly approved legislation on Thursday aimed at strengthening federal efforts to address hate crimes directed at Asian-Americans amid a sharp increase in discrimination and violence against Asian communities in the United States.

The bipartisan vote, 94 to 1, was the first legislative action either chamber of Congress has taken to bolster law enforcement’s response to attacks on people of Asian descent, which have intensified during the coronavirus pandemic. Even though he's married to an Asian American woman!

“By passing this bill, the Senate makes it very clear that hate and discrimination against any group has no place in America,” said Senator Chuck Schumer, Democrat of New York and the majority leader. “By passing this bill, we say to the Asian-American community that their government is paying attention to them, has heard their concerns and will respond to protect them.”

The measure, sponsored by Senator Mazie Hirono, Democrat of Hawaii, would establish a position at the Justice Department to expedite the agency’s review of hate crimes and expand the channels to report them. It would also encourage the creation of state-run hate crime hotlines, provide grant money to law enforcement agencies that train their officers to identify hate crimes and introduce a series of public education campaigns around bias against people of Asian descent.

John Naisbitt, author of the '80s bestseller Megatrends, died a couple of weeks ago. This got me thinking about the big underlying ideas that animate a lot of my views, so I figured I should stop for a bit and write them down. Those of you who are regular readers will recognize most of them since they pop up frequently, but there are a few that have mostly stayed in the background. Here they are:

US politics will stay toxic as long as Fox News is around. Rupert Murdoch has discovered that spreading fear and outrage is the most reliable way of making money, so that's what he does. It's all but impossible to sustain a traditional political system when half the population is scared senseless of the other half, and that will remain the case until Fox New is somehow reined in.

Don't worry so much about China. China is now, and will remain, our biggest rival on the geopolitical stage. They will cause us plenty of trouble. At the same time, they have lots of problems that aren't always obvious. Their GDP per capita is still a small fraction of ours. They are coming up on the middle-income trap at the same time that their population is aging. And most importantly, they are a paranoid autocracy that will never fully embrace market capitalism. This is their Achilles' heel, and it's the reason that the United States will stay ahead of them more or less forever.

Black students need to graduate from high school reading at a 12th grade level. This will not "solve" racism. However, it will prove impossible to make very much progress on reducing racism until Black kids are performing at the same level as white kids

Geoengineering is our future. I am not in favor of geoengineering. Nobody with a room temperature IQ is in favor of geoengineering. Nevertheless, the world has shown no willingness to take the collective action needed to address climate change, and it's unlikely that a fabulous new invention will do the job either.

Around 2040 or so this will become obvious and the only alternative will be some sort of geoengineering. So we'll do it. This means that we should be studying every possible form of geoengineering now so that if we end up doing it, at least we have some idea of what we're getting ourselves into.

The United States is the best placed country in the world right now. For all our faults, the US is by far the country best positioned to be successful over the next few decades. We have the best higher education system in the world. We have strong demographics. We valorize innovation, entrepreneurship, and competition. We are dedicated to market capitalism. Immigrants understand this instinctively, which is why the US remains by far the preferred destination for people around the world who would like to move.We are entering a biotech golden age. I know, I know: we've been entering a biotech golden age for the past four decades. But after years of prologue, I think we really are finally on the verge of huge change. Cheap genome sequencing, CRISPR, and mRNA vaccines are harbingers of the near future.Islamic terrorism will disappear within a decade.

Explanation here.Artificial intelligence is coming. Don't be fooled by all the crap that's laughingly billed as "AI" by overenthusiastic marketing departments right now. These things are all toys. Real AI is still about 20 years away, but when it comes it will be the biggest breakpoint ever in human history.

It will bring about change so massive and so extensive that it's nearly impossible to predict what the world will look like 40 or 50 years from now. I wish I could be around to see it!

Jan. 6 defendants win unlikely Dem champions as they face harsh detainment
“Solitary confinement is a form of punishment that is cruel and psychologically damaging,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren said.

“Solitary confinement is a form of punishment that is cruel and psychologically damaging,” Warren said in an interview. “And we’re talking about people who haven’t been convicted of anything yet.”

The Massachusetts Democrat, a member of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's leadership team, said that while some limited uses of solitary confinement are justified, she’s worried that law enforcement officials are deploying it to “punish” the Jan. 6 defendants or to “break them so that they will cooperate.”

Her sentiments are shared by Durbin, who also chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee and expressed surprise that all of the detained Jan. 6 defendants were being kept in so-called “restrictive housing.” While their defense of accused rioters' rights as criminal defendants is unlikely to change the Justice Department's handling of those cases,
it's a notable case of prominent progressives using their political clout to amplify their criminal justice reform calls even on behalf of Donald Trump supporters who besieged the entire legislative branch in January.

Durbin, who has long sought to eradicate solitary confinement, told POLITICO that such conditions should be a “rare exception," for accused insurrectionists or any other prisoners.

“There has to be a clear justification for that, in very limited circumstances,” he said.

D.C. government officials say the pandemic already has sharply limited freedom of movement in the jail where most Jan. 6 defendants are held. In fact, the entire jail has been subject to strict lockdown procedures since the onset of the pandemic, a determination that has caused broader controversy about prisoners' rights. But restrictive housing is a maximum-security designation, and the blanket designation for the Capitol defendants — which isn't expected to ease even if pandemic era restrictions do — is a notable decision for a large group of inmates who have yet to be tried for their alleged crimes.

Genuine Anglo Saxon history is rich with stories of achievements and sacrifices that will move the hearts of Americans, in stark contrast to the grim and pessimistic narrative pressed by critical race theorists. Like Vice President Cumaswalow.

Above all, we must have courage, the fundamental virtue required in our time: courage to stand and speak the truth, courage to withstand epithets, courage to face the mob, and courage to shrug off the scorn of elites. When enough of us overcome the fear that currently prevents so many from speaking out, the hold of critical race theory will begin to slip. And courage begets courage. It’s easy to stop a lone dissenter; it’s much harder to stop 10, 20, 100, 1,000, 1 million, or more who stand up together for the principles of Anglo Saxon America. Truth and justice are on our side. If we can muster the courage, we will win.

Loony toons

None of the children who kept going to school died of Covid, and there was little effect on the adults in their lives. The Swedish researchers, who had access to the health records of the entire population, analyzed the rates of Covid infections and medical treatments among hundreds of thousands of teachers and parents. To minimize confounding variables, the economists compared two groups of parents with similarly aged children: those with ninth-graders who kept going to school and those with tenth-graders who stayed home. There was no difference in their risk of serious Covid disease. The parents whose children kept going to school were slightly more likely to test positive for Covid, but no more likely to be treated or hospitalized for it, than were the parents whose children stayed home.

The unmasked teachers in classrooms at the junior high schools were more likely to be hospitalized for Covid than were the online teachers, but the difference was hardly catastrophic: 0.09 percent, meaning there was less than one additional severe case for every 1,000 classroom teachers. That extra risk might warrant some precautions, such as excusing older teachers from classroom duties if they haven’t been vaccinated, but it doesn’t justify closing schools or forcing children to wear masks.

Workers in less crucial professions have been taking greater risks throughout the pandemic. Another team of Swedish researchers, led by Jonas F. Ludvigsson of the Karolinksa Institute, put the danger in perspective by comparing the occupations of people with severe cases of Covid during the outbreak in Sweden last spring. Among the country’s roughly 100,000 schoolteachers, 20 received intensive-care treatment for Covid. Even after the researchers excluded health-care workers from the comparison, they found that teachers’ risk of winding up in the ICU last spring was less than half the risk for the rest of the workforce.

Now that the pandemic has eased and so many people have developed immunity either from vaccination or infection, the risk to teachers in America and most other places is even lower. For the teachers who clamored to reach the front of the line for vaccines, the risk of teaching in a room of unmasked students is essentially nil. It’s clear from the Swedish economists’ study that the risk to the students’ parents is also essentially nil. There is no excuse for closing any school, particularly now that we know the effect on learning: researchers have found that children studying remotely make little or no academic progress, and that the “learning loss” is most pronounced among those from disadvantaged homes. Yet teachers, parents, public-health officials, and journalists persist in ignoring these facts—and the lasting damage that their irrational fears are doing to the most vulnerable members of society.

So far, adult fearmongering has probably fooled most children into believing that school closures, social distancing, and masks are necessary precautions. But eventually, when the hysteria abets and the facts emerge, they will realize that their year of studying miserably served no more rational purpose than our ancestors’ child sacrifices to the gods. As Oscar Wilde said, “Children begin by loving their parents; as they grow older they judge them; sometimes they forgive them.” This generation will have much to forgive.

An alternate juror in Derek Chauvin’s trial told reporters Thursday that Dr. Martin Tobin, the soft-spoken doctor who explained how George Floyd died, convinced her of the former police officer’s guilt.

“Dr. Tobin was like the turning point for me,” said Lisa Christensen. “I appreciate him explaining it in the way that all of us could understand it. I understood what he was saying. I thought it was very powerful — probably the most important witness they had.”

Tobin, a pulmonologist who studies the physiology of breathing, testified that Floyd died of low oxygen due to Chauvin’s restraint. Christensen praised the way he narrated key, specific moments in the video that might have otherwise been missed.

“I feel like he could actually point out, going through the video, saying, ‘Hey at this instance right here is where Mr. Floyd lost his life,’ ” she said.

As an alternate juror, Christensen sat through the entire trial but was dismissed prior to deliberations, so she was not one of the 12 jurors who voted to convict Chauvin on two counts of murder and one count of manslaughter.

Still, her comments are the first public indication of what jurors in court every day felt and thought of the case against the former Minneapolis Police officer. Her analysis also fits neatly with what court viewers and legal analysts said of the most powerful witnesses.

In a press conference as well as in an interview on “CBS This Morning,” she said she believed Chauvin was guilty.

“I didn’t know if he was going to be guilty on all counts, but I would have said guilty,” she told CBS.

Sympathy and praise for 17-year-old bystander

In the CBS interview, she also praised Darnella Frazier, the teenage bystander who took clear and intimate video of Floyd’s final moments. At the trial, Frazier testified she lost sleep at night apologizing to Floyd for not doing more to save him.

“She feels responsible in a way, and I feel really bad for her, but I commend her for taking the video because without her I don’t think this would have been possible,” Christensen said.

By contrast, she didn’t think the defense witnesses had a good impact and she had negative views of defense attorney Eric Nelson.

“I think he over-promised in the beginning and didn’t live up to what he said he was going to do,” she said.

Nelson has not commented to CNN since the verdict.

Christenson also expressed discomfort with Chauvin himself, who appeared in court every day but did not testify.

“We locked eyes quite a few times and I was pretty uncomfortable,” she said.

Christensen said watching the video of Floyd’s death, which she hadn’t seen in full before, left her in tears a couple times. And she expressed her continued confusion about how a suspected fake $20 bill got so out of hand.

“I just don’t understand how it got from a counterfeit $20 bill to a death,” she said. “It kind of shocks me.”

The jurors in the high-profile case were unnamed and unseen on camera to protect their identity.

In jury selection, Christensen, a White woman in her 50s, said she worked until recently in customer service in a suburban business that was damaged in the civil unrest after Floyd’s death. She said she had a “somewhat negative” view of Chauvin, but generally trusts police and believes people who follow their instructions have nothing to fear.

Any reasonable observer might question whether Derek Chauvin could receive, or did receive, a fair trial in Hennepin County. I certainly do. In his order denying Chauvin’s motion for a change of venue, Judge Cahill acknowledged the problem of pretrial publicity but deemed it irremediable by a change of venue. If Judge Cahill had the temerity to change venue to Thief River Falls in Pennington County, for example, or Madison in Lac Qui Parle County, you wonder if he wouldn’t have set off another round of riots, or whether the thought was on his mind.

I watched the trial from jury selection through the verdicts today. Contrary to my predisposition to support law enforcement and my understanding of the case before trial, I thought the prosecution introduced a substantial case against Chauvin and that the defense case was thin and weak. Indeed, for example, the defense put in evidence that carbon monoxide poisoning from the squad car’s exhaust contributed to Floyd’s death and argued the point to the jury in closing. Who put Chauvin next to the squad’s exhaust pipe and held him there? Although the prosecution disputed the evidence of carbon monoxide point during trial, I thought the evidence tended to support the prosecution’s case against Chauvin, as one of the prosecutors finally tumbled to during his rebuttal argument.

I was surprised by how far the case departed from my previous understanding of it. Floyd was high on a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl at the time of his death, but the issue of drug abuse seemed to recede in importance as a cause of Floyd’s death, even in the testimony of defense medical expert David Fowler.

Prominent attorneys contributed their services to Chauvin’s prosecution. The Office of the Minnesota Attorney General, which employs well over a hundred lawyers, was apparently insufficient to the task. Pro bono prosecutor Steve Schleicher massacred defense use of force expert Barry Brodd on cross examination. Fowler — a forensic pathologist, formerly chief Maryland medical examiner — ascribed Floyd’s death to a plethora of causes other than asphyxiation by Chauvin’s knee on Floyd’s neck, but his opinion failed to persuade the jury.

The prosecution also benefited from the contribution of the services of medical experts Martin Tobin, a pulmonologist, and Jonathan Rich, a cardiologist. They were impressive witnesses, but there is no aspect of the prosecution which was not subject to overkill — from the bystanders, the bystanders’ videos, the police bodycam videos, the Minneapolis Police Department witnesses, the use of force experts and the medical experts. Cumulative testimony was the order of the day. Chauvin himself exercised his Fifth Amendment right not to testify. The famous bystander video that made the case a cause called out for explanation. Nevertheless, nothing beyond speculation was offered.

Race was not an issue in the trial, yet the case has been claimed as an example of ‘systemic racism’ by the left from President Biden and Gov. Walz on down. The prosecution of Derek Chauvin became a cause for our racial hustlers and professional elites, but the cause is politics, not justice — and the politics are themselves of a suffocating and deadly variety.

As economy spikes, Republicans are still waiting for the ‘Biden depression’ that Trump predicted
Stock market ‘collapse’ also has yet to materialize

Add to list
Throughout last year’s campaign, President Donald Trump issued a series of increasingly dark predictions about what would happen if Joe Biden were elected.
“If he gets in, you will have a depression the likes of which you’ve never seen. Your 401(k)s will go to hell and it’ll be a very, very sad day for this country,” Trump said in the Oct. 22 candidate debate.
Instead, the rebounding economy is headed for its best year since 1984, according to the International Monetary Fund. The U.S. economy likely expanded in the first quarter at an annual rate of 6 percent and should accelerate in the months ahead, economist Ian Shepherdson of Pantheon Macroeconomics told clients this week. More than 1.3 million jobs have been added since the election.

By Trump’s preferred metric — the stock market — Biden is outperforming his predecessor at this stage of his presidency. Last summer, the Republican said stock values would “collapse” under Biden. But through Thursday, the Dow Jones industrial average was up nearly 16 percent since Nov. 7, when the Democrat was declared the apparent election winner, compared with a 10.5 percent gain over a similar period following Trump’s election.

This is a blatant lie kept alive by the lying POS "pastor" and his GODdard with his teachings at political_lire.

And guess what, there is no link to the actual Trump talk at political_lire because he never said it.

Drop In Vaccine Demand Seen Across U.S.
Associated Press:
“The dwindling demand for vaccines illustrates the challenge that the U.S. faces in trying to conquer the pandemic while at the same time dealing with the optics of tens of thousands of doses sitting on shelves when countries like India and Brazil are in the midst of full-blown medical emergencies.”

“More than half of American adults have received at least one vaccine dose, and President Joe Biden this week celebrated eclipsing 200 million doses administered in his first 100 days in office. He also acknowledged entering a new phase to bolster outreach and overcome hesitancy.”

Send the extra supplies to India and let the Trumpsters inject bleach.

Send the extra supplies to India and let the Trumpsters inject bleach.

It's not the Trumpest who are reluctant to take the vaccine. It's African-Americans and white liberal idiots who listen to Kamala Harris.

African-Americans had a long and well justified suspension of the federal government. Harris nor anybody else in the Biden administration has helped.

(Reuters) - President Joe Biden wants to put "real money" toward helping laid-off workers get new jobs in growth industries like green energy and healthcare as part of his $2.3 trillion jobs and infrastructure package, a top economic adviser said.

Biden is attempting a delicate balancing act as he calls for a reshaping of the nation's energy industry by reducing reliance on fossil fuels and coal-powered electric plants to meet aggressive climate emission goals.

Those industries offer high-paying, union jobs that Biden promised to replace while courting the blue-collar vote on the campaign trail.

"What we're trying to do here is put some real money where our mouths are," Jared Bernstein, who serves on the White House Council of Economic Advisers, told Reuters. "You don't just train somebody for a job that might or might not exist. Instead, you look around the corner and see where labor demand is going to be next year."

If the recovery continues into the next election cycle, the tendency for the opposition party to gain more seats in the Senate and House, is reversed the Republican party could remain the minority party for many years.

Especially if they nominate the man who lost both houses and the White House and mishandled the worst medical crisis in a century!

Trump 2024!

Now why would AZ democrats sue to stop this?

PHOENIX — The Arizona Democratic Party filed a lawsuit Thursday aimed at halting the state Senate audit of 2020 election results in Maricopa County.

The suit, brought forward by Maricopa County supervisor Steve Gallardo, alleges the audit is led by partisan contractors hired by the Republican-controlled Senate.

Gallardo, the lone Democrat on the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, said he was also concerned about ballot security and confidentiality.

“The sole reason for this lawsuit and injunctions is to protect the sanctity of the ballots and more importantly to preserve voters’ privacy from a sham audit that has been corrupted by agitators and conspiracy theorists,” Gallardo said in a tweet.

“This corrupted process will not be transparent, dark money influencers have hand-picked the folks to observe and witness the ‘audit’ that will be conducted by an uncertified and unqualified group.”

What if I told you the Vatican's Council of Culture invited "prominent journalist" Katie Couric to speak on "health and the soul" as well?

That's the same Katie Couric who got caught having dinner with Jeffrey Epstein in 2010 - that's AFTER Epstein was convicted.

Ron Johnson Questions ‘Big Push’ To Get Vaccinated
Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) declared that he sees “no reason to be pushing vaccines on people,” arguing their distribution should be “limited” to those most vulnerable to coronavirus, and asking, “if you have a vaccine, quite honestly, what do you care if your neighbor has one or not?,” Forbes reports.

Johnson said he is “getting highly suspicious” of the “big push to make sure everybody gets the vaccine,” stating it’s “not a fully approved vaccine.”

No, just send the vaccine to India where they are absolutely begging for it.

And then stand back and watch the virus break out anew here.

There is no such thing as "consensus" science. The bewildering thing about Big Tech censorship from academic perspective is how wrong it is to block public policy debate based on peer-reviewed research & data. It is antithetical to how human progress was achieved for centuries.

The left now thinks science is consensus.
