CRT will destroy America's place in the global economy...

The entire concept of critical race theory is to level the playing field, but nobody benefits when equity demand everyone be aboard the same sinking ship

American exceptionalism may die with CRT

Critical race theory. systemic racism, equity over equality.  The nutshell definition of CRT is to demand that all inequities in our country are the direct result of systemic racism and that the only way to fundamentally change anything is to abandon the constitutionally protected concept that everyone is entitled to equal opportunity rather than an equal result.

While all this might start by providing equal opportunity, there is never going to be a guarantee (nor can there ever be a guarantee) that two people with identical opportunities will end up in the same place. In fact, such a concept by nature is not only unrealistic, but quite literally impossible.

But that is what CRT demands. Not equity of opportunity. They want equity of results.

In Boston, there was a group of parents who sued the school board over changes in how they chose students for their prestigious "exam schools" which are basically highly accelerated public schools. Whereas the schools used to pick students based on academic and test scores, they more-less ditched that concept in favor of a zip-code quota. Now certainly the students chosen will be at the top of their zip-code, but not necessarily at the top of the state.

Now, the argument will be that this is a means to pull the students from certain zip-codes up and allow a more diverse opportunity to succeed. But what it is really doing is pulling down the most highly advanced students by diluting the accelerated schools (which will no doubt have to teach differently to accommodate for less advanced students) and by taking other highly advanced students and leaving them in standard schools.

While this may seem "fair" to certain woke liberals who are out to stick it to the White and Asian kids who they believe are unfairly getting ahead due to systemic racisms, what it is really doing is making harder for Americans to compete in the global market? You think China, India, or other major economic rivals are using a "zip code quota" to determine which or their students gets accelerated learning opportunities?

The reality is that you cannot create equity in result by pushing everyone up to the front. The reality is that you need to push some people forward while pulling others back to ever really gain an equity of result. You will never have anyone who is truly exceptional when there is an equity of results.

That is precisely what the Boston School system is doing with their decision to no longer have the most accelerated students make up the student body of their accelerated schools. They are reducing the chance that highly exceptional students will make it out of that school. Not that some sort of racial equity might not be an admirable goal in theory, but in reality this will do little more than drop our current crop of students further behind our international competition in terms of education. This naturally leads towards our top engineering, medical, and tech jobs either being outsourced or given to immigrants or foreign citizens here on work visas. It also means that many of the top scientific and other advancements will start to migrate to areas of the world where education is still provided by ability rather than equity.

Again... our economic competition (China, India, etc) are not looking to create any sort of "equity" of educational results. They are pushing for exceptionalism. Just as America once did.

Critical race theory is loosely unified by two common themes: first, that white supremacy (societal racism) exists and maintains power through the law;[6] and second, that transforming the relationship between law and racial power, and also achieving racial emancipation and anti-subordination more broadly, are possible.[7]

Achieving economic parity by using higher wages and strengthening union jobs is not an attempt to improve Socialism.

Reconciliation is another reason why the Republicans oppose it. But again it is not Socialism. Under a Socialist economy, the government would own personal property and business permanently.

Scott, the President Biden is not a socialist.

This is reminiscent of the 1950s of the Red Scare

It's also extraordinarily dangerous to gay and transgender people.

Plus this ridiculous concept.

This naturally leads towards our top engineering, medical, and tech jobs either being outsourced or given to immigrants or foreign citizens here on work visas.

Jim Crow 2021. Or just close the borders to make sure you aren't replaced by people who don't look like you are Jimmy Hitler etc..

It's a form of isolationism. If they had maintained power, the Fascist revolution in World War two would have succeeded to conquer the Soviet Union and the Japanese government would have taken over China and India.

The bottom line is isolationist philosophy.

Just privatize schools, and never teach kids about our nation's racial discrimination laws, or the fact that slavery was in the Constitution, and teach them that the Democratic party of the post Civil war was and is still the Jim Crow party of the 21st century, like Senator Cruz said today?

Trump's blog isn't lighting up the internet
Brandy Zadrozny
Tue, May 11, 2021, 8:56 AM
Four months after former President Donald Trump was banished from most mainstream social media platforms, he returned to the web last Tuesday with “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump,” essentially a blog for his musings.

A week since the unveiling, social media data suggests things are not going well.

The ex-president’s blog has drawn a considerably smaller audience than his once-powerful social media accounts, according to engagement data compiled with BuzzSumo, a social media analytics company. The data offers a hint that while Trump remains a political force, his online footprint is still dependent on returning to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

The Desk of Donald J. Trump is limited — users can’t comment or engage with the actual posts beyond sharing them to other platforms, an action few people do, according to the data.

Trump’s new blog has attracted a little over 212,000 engagements, defined as backlinks and social interactions — including likes, shares and comments — received across Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Reddit. Before the ban, a single Trump tweet was typically liked and retweeted hundreds of thousands of times.

The blog posts come in the form of statements that are also sent to supporters via email. In the multiple daily notes, Trump has attacked his political enemies and endorsed faithful supporters, continued to push false claims and conspiracy theories, and opined on news of the day.

Trump's bans cost him the ability to communicate with millions of people: 88 million followers on Twitter, 32 million on Facebook, and 24 million on Instagram. Trump had just around 3 million YouTube subscribers, but his videos regularly racked up millions of views.

School daze: Why Democrats are vulnerable on education

Between the slow pace of school reopenings and divisive curricular changes taking place in Democratic jurisdictions, the party’s progressive wing is courting a backlash.

...
But calling for opening schools full-time is a central theme of Andrew Yang’s Democratic primary message in the mayoral race for much-bluer New York City, one he’s parlayed into a solid first-place position in the polls. And parents in Virginia are expressing their political views with their feet: In heavily Democratic Arlington, about 8 percent of children have withdrawn from the school system over the last year, mostly in favor of private education or homeschooling alternatives. There have been similar rates of departures in neighboring solidly Democratic counties. Exurban Loudoun County, a onetime Republican stronghold that swung dramatically to the Democrats during Donald Trump’s presidency, is a hotbed of statewide opposition to proposed curricular changes. It’s going to be a central bellwether in this year’s governor’s race.

Even liberals are warning about the likelihood of a backlash if Democrats fail to rein in the excesses of their activist class. “On education, the steady march of ‘anti-racist’ ideology into curricula of not just elite private schools but now public schools will generate a backlash among normie parents that the administration is studiously ignoring,” wrote progressive-minded political analyst Ruy Teixeira. “The administration is doing nothing to head off this impending culture war in the schools because to do so would bring the wrath of the stridently woke sector of the Democratic Party down upon Biden’s head.”

One of the few polls to examine the level of support for these hot-button educational issues, provided exclusively to National Journal, suggests the backlash to this type of educational activism is bipartisan. Commissioned by a newly launched group called Parents Defending Education, formed to “fight indoctrination in the classroom,” the survey found there is deep and widespread opposition to equity programs that call on students to check their “white privilege,” teach them that America is a systemically racist country, and promote social-justice causes.

Final Approval Expected for Offshore Wind Farm

New York Times:

“The Vineyard Wind project calls for up to 84 turbines to be installed in the Atlantic Ocean about 12 nautical miles off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard, Mass. Together, they could generate about 800 megawatts of electricity, enough to power about 400,000 homes.”

Unlearned Lessons from Trying to Ride the Tea Party

Gerald Seib:
“When the tea party movement emerged in 2009, Republican leaders assumed they could humor its followers and capture their intensity, while keeping them under control.

“They were wrong.
Instead, the party’s leaders were consumed by the movement they tried to corral, and by the grass-roots anger they thought they could use to their advantage.

“The question facing Mr. McCarthy and other party leaders is whether they are again mistaken in assuming they can channel the energy and anger of a grass-roots movement without being overtaken by it.

“Ultimately, the tea party movement was defined mostly by its distrust of that establishment; it was less about ideology and more about attitude. And eventually, of course, it bucked off the Republican leaders who tried to ride it.”

China increases spending 500% to influence America

New foreign-agent filings are finally detailing a massive Beijing propaganda operation that's fueled a sixfold increase in disclosed Chinese foreign influence efforts in the United States in recent years.

Why it matters: Propaganda is central to China fulfilling its geopolitical aspirations, and its efforts to sow discord and disinformation in the U.S. have very real consequences for the American business, political and social climates.

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Chinese foreign agent spending has skyrocketed from just over $10 million in 2016 to nearly $64 million last year.

Thanks largely to its stable of propaganda operations, China is now the top spender on foreign influence operations in the U.S.
American laws designed to force disclosure of paid foreign influence are beginning to reveal the huge sums Beijing has devoted to its effort.
What's happening: State-run Chinese news service Xinhua is the latest to reveal some of the inner workings of its U.S. operations.

Xinhua's U.S. arm officially registered as a foreign agent last week, three years after the Justice Department notified the company it was required to do so, as first reported by Foreign Lobby Report.
Its initial filing under the Foreign Agents Registration Act is largely generic, describing Xinhua as "an independent legal entity" that's simply "subject to government oversight."
In fact, the media organ is owned by the Chinese government, run by senior Communist Party officials and widely seen as a Beijing mouthpiece.
Its new FARA filing disclosed $8.6 million in payments since March 2020 from Xinhua's Chinese parent to its U.S. arm, including payments directly to bureaus in Washington, Los Angeles, Houston, San Francisco and Chicago.
The big picture: Xinhua is just the latest state-run Chinese media organ to register.

CRP data show Chinese entities spent more on registered foreign agent activities in 2020 than those of any other nation.
That was largely driven by FARA registrations by state-run media outlets such as China Daily and CGTN.
Together they accounted for more than two-thirds of Chinese FARA spending in 2019 and more than four-fifths in 2020, eclipsing big names such as telecom giant Huawei and surveillance tech firm Hikvision.
Between the lines: Like those of other nations, Chinese state-run media have resisted U.S. Justice Department demands to register under FARA, a law originally created to expose Nazi propaganda in the U.S.

Prior to their disclosures, these Chinese media organs operated in the shadows, unencumbered by FARA requirements requiring disclosure about their structures and finances.

Quite a bit more than Russia's $160,000 on facebook ads. And boy did the FAKE NEWS media go ballistic over that. China sure liked helping Joe.

Why is the Trump Administration denouncing critical race theory? And why Scott is a puppet character.

In his speech at the National Archives Museum, the President posited that using critical race theory as a framework to consider the history of the U.S., including its use of slave labor, encourages “deceptions, falsehoods and lies” by the “left-wing cultural revolution.”

“Students in our universities are inundated with critical race theory,” he said. “This is a Marxist doctrine holding that America is a wicked and racist nation, that even young children are complicit in oppression, and that our entire society must be radically transformed. Critical race theory is being forced into our children’s schools, it’s being imposed into workplace trainings, and it’s being deployed to rip apart friends, neighbors, and families.”

Scholars who work with CRT, however, say it has become an indispensable and widely accepted tool for properly understanding the state of the nation—but they’re not surprised by Trump’s attitude toward it.

“I think this is another part of the general approach that Donald Trump is taking to campaign to try and separate and divide folks along racial lines and to try to create division instead of really addressing what our core issues are in our nation,” says Ocen, who also notes that President Barack Obama’s relationship with Derrick Bell was weaponized in previous campaigns against Obama.

Very similar to birtherism when he started running for President.

Biden is trying to unite the country, but the only thing the Republicans have to play is anger against him and the mixed race Vice President Harris.

SPEAKING OF CRITICAL RACE THEORY
---SO WHAT REALLY DID HAPPEN HERE?

Police body camera video shows Andrew Brown Jr. shooting was unjustified, attorneys say.

By Amir Vera and Keith Allen, CNN
Updated 7:35 PM ET, Tue May 11, 2021

Andrew Brown family sees more bodycam video
(CNN)After viewing body and dash camera footage of Andrew Brown Jr.'s death, attorneys and family members of Brown said Tuesday that it proves police were unjustified in shooting him.

Brown was fatally shot April 21 when Pasquotank County deputies in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, were trying to execute a warrant.

Chance Lynch, one of the Brown family attorneys, said he and the family were able to watch six videos. The first video was a dash camera video with no sound, and the last five were all body camera footage.

"We were able to see some critical footage that yields some truth and transparency to what we thought we would see from the beginning," Lynch said during a news conference Tuesday.

Pasquotank County Chief Deputy Daniel Fogg said Tuesday the video showed the attempt to serve an arrest warrant against Brown, as well as officers attempts to provide Brown medical care after the shooting.
"It was my hope that we will be able to release the video publicly so everyone could see for themselves what happened," Pasquotank County Sheriff Tommy Wooten added. "We respect the court's decision and took an oath to abide by north Carolina law and we've done just that."

The family and attorney's viewing of the video comes after petitions from the Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office and a media coalition, Judge Jeff Foster issued a written order allowing for Brown's family and one of their legal representatives to view the videos -- but they will not be allowed to receive copies or make recordings.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

The judge filed his order Thursday night, according to a copy posted by the county. The order says the videos consist of almost two hours of footage.

Brown posed no threat to officers, attorney says
Lynch said he saw Brown sitting in his vehicle when officers arrived and started yelling different things at Brown like "show your hands" or "get out."

"At all times his hands were visible, you could see he was not a threat," Lynch said. "It was so much yelling, we could barely understand what was happening."

A shot was fired, Lynch said,
and Brown put his car in reverse several feet from where the officers were standing.

"At no point did we see any police officers behind his vehicle," Lynch said. "At no point did we see Mr. Brown make contact with law enforcement."

District Attorney Andrew Womble, who is responsible for the district that includes Pasquotank County, said officers fired when the car Brown was driving moved toward them and the car made contact with officers at least two times before shots were fired.

Lynch said he did see officers firing their weapons at Brown's car. He found it difficult to count how many shots were fired.
"When they approached the vehicle, we counted approximately six if not more bullet holes in the passenger side of his car," Lynch said.

"Windows were shattered. We were able to see one shot in the front windshield and approximately six (bullet holes) in the back windshield."

Lynch said at some point there was a "final shot" at which point Brown lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree across the street. Officers pulled Brown's body out of the car and laid him face first on the ground. No weapons were found in Brown's car after police searched it.

"It was absolutely, unequivocally unjustified," Lynch said. "Our legal team is more committed now to pursue justice ... because what we saw today was unconstitutional and it was unjustifiable."

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

The judge ordered the sheriff's office to blur the deputies' facial features "to prevent identification pending the completion of any internal or criminal investigation into the actions of the deputies."

Two members of Brown's family and his family's attorneys were initially shown a 20-second clip from a deputy's body camera on April 26, according to Daniels. Another of the Brown family attorneys, Chantel Cherry-Lassiter, said the 20-second clip showed an "execution."

"The video I seen last week is pretty much the same as what I seen today just a few more details," Khalil Ferebee, one of Brown's sons who was one of two family members able to see the first video, said Tuesday. "He wasn't in the wrong at all, what's in the dark will come to the light."

Brown's attorneys ask for DA to recuse himself

In dispatch audio from April 21, when Brown was fatally shot, first responders can be heard saying a man had gunshot wounds to the back. A copy of Brown's death certificate says he died as a result of a gunshot wound of the head.

According to the arrest warrant, issued on April 20 and obtained by CNN on Thursday, Brown "unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did possess with the intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance, namely approximately three grams of cocaine."

Ferebee said after viewing the 20-second clip that he saw his father driving away from the deputies, not toward them.

Womble said April 28 that Brown's car in the video was stationary when officers approached shouting commands. As officers attempted to open a door on the car, the vehicle backed up and made contact with an officer.

Womble said the car then stopped before moving forward and again made contact with law enforcement. After the car moved forward, shots are heard, Womble said.

Attorneys for Brown's family called for Womble to recuse himself from the case, citing "well-defined" conflicts between the prosecutor and the sheriff's office.

"There is no doubt all seven officers involved, including the three shooters, have worked directly with you and your office for years in prosecuting various cases," the family attorneys wrote in a letter to Womble last week.

The letter, signed by family attorney Bakari Sellers, asked that "in the interest of fairness, transparency and pursuit of the ends of justice" Womble move the case to another jurisdiction and "immediately recuse yourself."

"You and your office not only work with Sheriff Wooten and his deputies daily, your office physically resides in the Pasquotank County Sheriff's department," the attorneys wrote. "The conflict is well-defined."

A state investigation into Brown's death "remains ongoing," a spokesperson for North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation told CNN on Tuesday.

Public information officer Anjanette Grube said that, due to the many variables in the investigation, the agency was unable to provide a timeline of when it might conclude.

CNN's Brian Todd, Devon M. Sayers, Ray Sanchez and Mallika Kallingal contributed to this report.

Juan Williams: Tim Scott should become a Democrat

Tim Scott has to switch parties.

Join the Democrats, senator.

Why?

The South Carolina Republican senator told the truth when he said America is not a racist country.

And that truth requires him to say that if white supremacist thinking, as inspired by former President Trump, becomes any stronger in the GOP, we risk becoming a racist country.

He can’t give it a free pass without facing the charge that he is being used to cover up racism in the party of Trump.

By crossing over, he will give the Democrats a 51-vote majority in the Senate. They will reward him with leverage over pending legislation, specifically the police reform bill he is now working on.

By staying with the Republicans, Scott is in danger of becoming the fall guy, the Black Republican who looked the other way as the party continued its poor record on Black voter suppression and police brutality.

Scott has power inside the Senate GOP caucus as its only Black member. He is “better positioned than a white Republican to push back on progressive race narratives,” in the words of William McGurn, a conservative writing in The Wall Street Journal.

But that role carries the risk of going down in the history books as the Black man designated by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to distract the public while 49 other Republicans, nearly all white, post a failing record on dealing with racial tensions following the police murder of George Floyd.

At the moment, Scott is protected from hearing that criticism. In fact, he is on the verge of becoming a Black man in contention for the presidential nomination in a party that is close to 90 percent white.

That is quite a political story.

Scott tells voters he is a Black man whose family has gone from “cotton fields to Congress.” It took political skill to become the first Black southerner of any party to win a Senate seat since the 1880s, the era of post-Civil War Reconstruction.

And Scott’s rise has come in a party with a troubled history on race, ranging from its embrace of the racist 'Southern strategy' after the 1964 Civil Rights Act to its current efforts to suppress Black voting.

In the Trump-branded Republican party of 2021, Scott’s first challenge is police reform.

Scott has personal experience of being treated unfairly by police. By his account, he was stopped by police — including seven times in one year, without good reason.

But even with that personal testimony, Scott could not get enough Republican support for a bill to increase police accountability.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

Democrats insisted that any bill end qualified immunity — the technical term for protecting police against lawsuits from people who claim abuse.
Republicans refused.

That stand-off ended with no police reform. But pressure continued to build, especially with the conviction for murder of Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis police officer who knelt on Floyd’s neck until he died.

Now, with Trump gone from the White House, Scott is discussing allowing civilians to sue the police departments but not the police officer.

A win for Scott on any police reform bill will be a first step in reversing the ugly racial divisiveness of the Trump era.

Trump attacked a Black Lives Matter sign as a “symbol of hate,” while always championing police. He saw people marching for racial justice as “thugs” and “anarchists,” as well as “terrorists.”

After he lost the election, Trump’s followers carried the Confederate flag as they rushed into the Capitol on Jan. 6.

Scott spoke out during the 2020 presidential race when Trump, during a debate, failed to strongly refute white supremacy. That led to a White House meeting but little else.

Similarly, Scott was a rare voice among Senate Republicans calling for attention to working class people, disproportionately Black and Latino, in 2017 negotiations for the Trump tax cuts.

He successfully pushed for Trump’s tax bill to include “Opportunity Zones,” to reward investors who put money into poor neighborhoods.

But when the bill passed, it exploded the deficit with no marked increase in investment to balance the tax breaks for corporations and the rich.

Now when Scott announces that “America is not a racist country,” he opens himself to criticism that he is once again giving the GOP a way to escape responsibility for their racially polarizing policies.

Here is Michael Steele, a Black Republican and former chairman of the national party:

“When Tim puts that [“America is not a racist country”] out there …it is a distraction from the underlying reality and truth, which is that not every American is racist but there are a lot of racists in America,” Steele told Gerald F. Seib in The Wall Street Journal last week.

Vice President Harris recently agreed the U.S. is not a racist country but added, “We also do have to speak truth about the history of racism in our country and its existence today.”

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) was most pointed. Scott is out of touch with the reality that “Trump…was taking us backwards” on race, she told a TV station in her home state.

That criticism fits with the reality that in the 2020 election, 87 percent of Black people voted for President Biden against Trump.

If Scott really wants to help the Black community, let him bring his talent to the one party left in America intent on enacting policies to help Black people — Democrats.

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) warned in a fiery floor speech on the eve of her expected ouster from House GOP leadership that the decision by many in her party to enable former President Trump's falsehoods about his election loss risked undermining American democracy.

Cheney, who currently serves as chair of the House Republican Conference, made clear in her Tuesday night floor speech that she isn't backing down against the former president, despite the expected cost to her political ambitions in the House.

"Every one of us who has sworn the oath must act to prevent the unraveling of our democracy. This is not about policy. This is not about partisanship. This is about our duty as Americans," Cheney said.

"Remaining silent and ignoring the lie emboldens the liar," Cheney continued. "I will not participate in that. I will not sit back and watch in silence while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law, and joins the former president's crusade to undermine our democracy."

Cheney warned that the U.S. faces an unprecedented threat to its democratic process with Trump continuing to claim that President Biden was not legitimately elected.

She further warned that Trump's actions threatened more violence like the Jan. 6 insurrection, when a mob of Trump supporters broke into the Capitol to try to stop Congress from certifying Biden's Electoral College win.

"Today, we face a threat America has never seen before. A former president who provoked a violent attack on this Capitol in an effort to steal the election has resumed his aggressive effort to convince Americans that the election was stolen from him," Cheney said. "He risks inciting further violence."

"Our duty is clear. Every one of us who has sworn the oath must act to prevent the unraveling of our democracy,"
Cheney said.

If she runs for President I will register as a Republican vote for her in the primary.

Send Liz Cheney Away with the Neo-Con Right
American Lives over Endless War.

I have an idea of what to do with Liz Cheney – send her to Iraq.

Send her on a tour of the destructive policies she supports. Let her see the graves of the innocents who were caught between foreign armies and the militias. Show her the destroyed cities still being rebuilt. Let her stand on the foundation of the destroyed home that is gone forever. Walk her over to the graves of the children in the front yard.

Or better yet, if she’s so concerned about Afghanistan, she can send herself.

If she wants the United States to “save face” in Afghanistan by remaining there indefinitely, let her see the costs of that policy. The American servicemen who lose limbs - let Liz Cheney pay for the prosthetics. The Marine who drives on some remote road in a Humvee, thousands of miles from home, praying he doesn’t die - let Liz Cheney take his place.

Remember who Liz Cheney is.

Lost in the effort to remove Cheney from GOP leadership, and its focus on impeachment and January 6, is Liz Cheney’s history.

Let this serve as a reminder.

Liz Cheney fought President Trump’s efforts to withdraw American troops from Afghanistan in the summer of 2020.

Liz Cheney allied with Democrats – even sponsoring an amendment – to prohibit “the expenditure of monies to reduce the number of U.S. troops deployed in Afghanistan below 8,000.”

Liz Cheney used the fraudulent “Russia Bounty” hoax to attack the Trump Administration and argue against troop withdrawals.

The movement to remove Cheney from GOP leadership might be about her unlikability, a power-play among House Republicans, or her criticism of Trump or her vote for impeachment. In reality, it’s all of that and then some.

We hope, however, that Cheney’s removal is part of the vanishing of the warmongering section of the GOP. The diminishment of the voices who supported (and still support) the decision to go to war against Iraq. Those who would sacrifice the lives of Americans so this country can “save face” in Afghanistan, whatever that means.

Those politicians, like Cheney, whose use of intelligence community lies lead to the death of American troops.

A message to the GOP - don’t stop with leadership. Tell Liz Cheney the Republicans are done with endless wars. And let her neo-conservative fans follow her on the way out.

Moments before Cheney rose to speak on Tuesday night, a group of House Republicans were delivering a series of speeches about "cancel culture," lamenting what they see as an attack on the constitutional freedom of speech.

"My fellow Americans, we're all in this together. We're in this together. We can't cancel each other. We can't move people out the public square because we find their ideas even vile or distasteful. I may not like what you have to say. We may disagree on votes on this very floor. But the one thing I will always respect, the one thing I will always defend, is your ability to say and your ability to vote that way," said Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.).

Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) then yielded time to Cheney.

"I know the topic is cancel culture. I have some thoughts about that," Cheney said as she began her speech. "But tonight, I rise to discuss freedom and our constitutional duty to protect it."

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

She is an American Hero. Even conservatives can be respected when they honor their oath.

Tonight I rise to discuss freedom and our constitutional duty to protect it. Mr. Speaker, I have been privileged to see firsthand how powerful and how fragile freedom is. 28 years ago, I stood outside a polling place, a schoolhouse in Western Kenya. Soldiers had chased away people who were lined up to vote. A few hours later, they came streaming back in, risking further attack undaunted in their determination to exercise their right to vote. In 1992, I sat across the table from a young mayor in [inaudible 00:00:40] Russia, and I listened to him talk of his dream of liberating his nation from communism. Years later, for his dedication to the cause of freedom, Boris Nemtsov was assassinated by Vladimir Putin’s thugs.

In Warsaw in 1990, I listened to a young Polish woman tell me that her greatest fear was that people would forget. They would forget what it was like to live under Soviet domination. That they would forget the price of freedom. Three men, an immigrant who escaped Castro’s totalitarian regime, a young man who grew up behind the iron curtain and became his country’s minister of defense, and a dissident who spent years in the Soviet Gulag have all told me it was the miracle of America captured in the words of President Ronald Reagan that inspired them.

And I have seen the power of faith and freedom. I listened to the Pope John Paul II speak to thousands in Nairobi in 1985, and 19 years later, I watched that same Pope take my father’s hands, look in his eyes and say, “God bless America.” God has blessed America, Mr. Speaker, but our freedom only survives if we protect it. If we honor our oath taken before God in this chamber to support and defend the constitution. If we recognize threats to freedom when they arise.

Today we face a threat America has never seen before. A former president who provoked a violent attack on this capital in an effort to steal the election has resumed his aggressive effort to convince Americans that the election was stolen from him. He risks inciting further violence. Millions of Americans have been misled by the former president. They have heard only his words, but not the truth as he continues to undermine our democratic process, sowing seeds of doubt about whether democracy really works at all.

I am a conservative Republican, and the most conservative of conservative principles is reverence for the rule of law. The Electoral College has voted. More than 60 state and federal courts, including multiple judges the former president appointed have rejected his claims. The Trump Department of Justice investigated the former president’s claims of widespread fraud and found no evidence to support them. The election is over. That is the rule of law. That is our constitutional process.

Those who refuse to accept the rulings of our courts are at war with the constitution. Our duty is clear, every one of us who has sworn the oath must act to prevent the unraveling of our democracy. This is not about policy. This is not about partisanship. This is about our duty as Americans. Remaining silent and ignoring the lie emboldens the liar. I will not participate in that. I will not sit back and watch in silence while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law and joins the former president’s crusade to undermine our democracy.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

As the Party of Reagan, Republicans have championed democracy, won the Cold War, and defeated the Soviet communists. Today America is on the cusp of another cold war. This time with Communist China. Attacks against our democratic process and the rule of law empower our adversaries and feed communist propaganda that American democracy is a failure. We must speak the truth. Our election was not stolen and America has not failed.

I received a message last week from a gold star father who said standing up for the truth honors all who gave all. We must all strive to be worthy of the sacrifice of those who have died for our freedom. They are the patriots Katharine Lee Bates described in the words of America the Beautiful when she wrote, “O beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife, who more than self their country loved. And mercy more than life.”

Ultimately, Mr. Speaker, this is at the heart of what our oath requires, that we love our country more. That we love her so much that we will stand above politics to defend her. That we will do everything in our power to protect our constitution and our freedom that has been paid for by the blood of so many. We must love America so much that we will never yield in her defense. That is our duty. Thank you.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

So, thank you, Liz Cheney, for doing something vitally important and clarifying — something that only a conservative Republican like you could do: force the G.O.P. at every level to choose whether to stand with Trump and his Big Lie or with the Constitution and the most important conservative principle of all — reverence for the rule of law.

Because, if Trump and friends are not stopped, one day they will get where they are going: They will lock in minority rule in America. And when that happens, both Democrats and principled Republicans will take to the streets, and you can call it whatever you like, but it is going to feel like a new civil war.

I don’t use that term lightly or accidentally. We are all the product of our life experiences, and my first reporting experience was living inside the Lebanese civil war in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

I saw close up what happens when democratically elected politicians think that they can endlessly abuse their institutions, cross redlines, weaken their judiciary and buy reporters and television stations — so that there is no truth, only versions, of every story. And they think that they can do it endlessly — cheat just one more time, break one more rule, buy one more vote — and the system will hold until they can take it over and own it for their own purposes.

Then one day — and you never see it coming — the whole system breaks down. Whatever frayed bonds of truth and trust that were holding it together completely unravel.

And then it’s gone. And there is no getting it back.

America’s longest war ever is finally coming to an end. President Biden announced last month that all U.S. troops will be out of Afghanistan by the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Revolver is happy to see any leader, regardless of party, complete President Trump’s goal to end America’s longest and most fruitless forever war.

But don’t celebrate yet. Once the war is actually over, the Deep State will be happy to reignite it in an instant, or else hunt for a new one to begin in some other unfortunate country. And that’s assuming the war ends at all. Until the last U.S. boot is out of Afghanistan, the American deep state may find a way to prolong the war. They’re fighting hard to do it right now, using the recent bombing of a girls’ school in Kabul to agitate for a longer war. The Taliban has condemned the bombing and strenuously denied involvement. No matter, the Deep State is happy to use whatever bodies it can find, so long as it means more war.

This pattern will continue until there is a fundamental overhaul of America’s entire defense and foreign policy establishment. To save America from one ruinous war after another, we must stop falling for the Pentagon and State Department’s tricks. Instead, it’s time for a new strategy: Defund the military-intelligence complex that has led the country to ruin.

That’s the central takeaway from The Stupidity of War, a highly readable new book from Ohio State professor John Mueller that chronicles the sad history and calamitous future of American military adventurism.

Throughout his long career, Mueller has been a skilled critic of the panic and tunnel vision that define the overcredentialed, unimpressive blob of hacks and academics who set America’s defense policy, justify its defense budget, and agitate for its wars.

In 2006’s Overblown, he argued that the threat of terrorism was dramatically inflated. Events over the past 15 years have proven him correct; terrorist attacks are not nearly as common as leaders feared they would be, extremists have never come close to acquiring weapons of mass destruction, and the greatest long-term impact of terrorism is the systemic loss of freedom in the name of “fighting” it. In 2010’s Atomic Obsession, Mueller argued that the nuclear arsenals of the great powers are exaggerated in their destructive capacities, limited in their impact on foreign policy, and for the most part a waste of money for their owners. Now, instead of poking at individual parts of America’s defense/intelligence/security apparatus, Mueller is taking aim at the whole thing

Saw it up close, didja Tommy boy?

Then that means you're witnessing the abuse of our American institutions by the removal of all integrity of our electoral system.

You're witnessing the overt attempt at weakening our judiciary by packing the USSC.

You're witnessing an MSM that is bought and fucking paid for by the left.

You're witnessing Twitter, Facebook and Google actively censoring and silencing the left's political opponents for "wrongthink."

And red lines? Oh yeah, we've got red lines. They surround our political elite in the form of barriers, fencing and razor wire.

Then one day — and you never see it coming — the whole system breaks down. Whatever frayed bonds of truth and trust that were holding it together completely unravel.

I think we're already there, Tommy boy. Thanks to assholes like you and your profession.

Today is an historic day for House Republicans.

Yes, we get it: Rep. Liz Cheney (Wyo.) is being booted from her post as House Republican Conference chair, a position whose portfolio is so amorphous that some argue it shouldn’t even exist.

Yes, we get it: Her unceremonious ouster will have little real impact on public policy, since House Republicans are in the minority.

Yes, we get it: The nation is recovering from a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic, and there are far more important things than Cheney’s political future.

But a major political party is replacing one of its leaders today because she has too frequently expressed outrage at the direction of her party and insufficient fealty to former President Donald Trump. For that, she no longer has the confidence of House Republicans.

The truth is there are Republicans who agree with Cheney that the party has lost its moral compass and is dangerously adrift, but they’re too scared to say it publicly. Confronting these obvious problems head on doesn’t serve their short-term political interest (avoiding a Trump-backed primary) or long-term political interest (winning back the House).

So Cheney will lose today. She knows it, her operation knows it. They aren’t working at all to keep her leadership post.

You may think it's a humiliating episode for Cheney -- and it is, to a degree. This is the woman who shocked House GOP insiders when she pushed Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) out of the leadership. Cheney then passed up a sure-fire bid for senator to stay in the rough-and-tumble House. There were those in the leadership who thought she had her sights set on replacing House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy or Minority Whip Steve Scalise.

But we did a lot of reporting on this over the last day, and here is what’s going through Cheney’s mind:

→ Cheney expects today’s proceedings to go quickly. There will be little debate about her ouster, little back and forth about the merits of the dispute. There may not even be a roll call vote. It’s unclear as of now. If a member does call for a recorded vote, Cheney’s support may be pretty tepid -- 20 to 30 votes.

→ Cheney thinks Republicans are abandoning the rule of law and slipping into authoritarianism. She said this on the House floor Monday night. She’s watching Trump undermine the core tenets of democracy and is dismayed that Republicans are following him down this path.

→ She has drifted so far away from McCarthy and Scalise that her relationship with them is irreparable. She has choice words for McCarthy, who she believes is an irresponsible leader who rehabilitated Trump after Jan. 6, and is now coddling the former president. Cheney is shocked by Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, who was once considered an ideological compatriot to the Wyoming Republican. Expect Cheney to be much more public in her criticism of the leadership -- if that's at all possible.

→ At this point, Cheney plans to serve out the rest of her term, and she plans to run for re-election.

→ Most importantly, Cheney isn’t going to shut up. She’s going to continue to speak out against Trump and what the Republican Party has become.

And, frankly, this could be more damaging to the GOP. Now Cheney will owe McCarthy and Scalise nothing. You know what they say: Better to have someone pissing in the tent than out of the tent. Cheney is officially out.

The Big Lie

May destroy the Party of Lincoln.

More than 100 Republicans, including some former elected officials, are preparing to release a letter this week threatening to form a third party if the Republican Party does not make certain changes, according to an organizer of the effort.

The statement is expected to take aim at former President Donald J. Trump’s stranglehold on Republicans, which signatories to the document have deemed unconscionable.

“When in our democratic republic, forces of conspiracy, division, and despotism arise, it is the patriotic duty of citizens to act collectively in defense of liberty and justice,” reads the preamble to the full statement, which is expected to be released on Thursday.

The effort comes as House Republican leaders are expected on Wednesday to oust Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming from their ranks because of her outspoken criticism of Mr. Trump’s election lies.

“This is a first step,” said Miles Taylor, an organizer of the effort and a former Trump-era Department of Homeland Security official who anonymously wrote a book condemning the Trump administration. In October, Mr. Taylor acknowledged he was the author of both the book and a 2018 New York Times Op-Ed article.

“This is us saying that a group of more than 100 prominent Republicans think that the situation has gotten so dire with the Republican Party that it is now time to seriously consider whether an alternative might be the only option,” he said.

The list of people signing the statement includes former officials at both the state and national level who once were governors, members of Congress, ambassadors, cabinet secretaries, state legislators and Republican Party chairmen, Mr. Taylor said.

Mr. Taylor declined to name the signers. Reuters reported earlier that the former governors Tom Ridge of Pennsylvania and Christine Todd Whitman of New Jersey will sign it, as will former Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters and former Representatives Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania, Barbara Comstock of Virginia, Reid Ribble of Wisconsin and Mickey Edwards of Oklahoma.

Mr. Taylor declined on Tuesday to reveal the specific changes that the coalition was planning to demand of the Republican Party in its statement.

“I’m still a Republican, but I’m hanging on by the skin of my teeth because how quickly the party has divorced itself from truth and reason,” Mr. Taylor said. “I’m one of those in the group that feels very strongly that if we can’t get the G.O.P. back to a rational party that supports free minds, free markets, and free people, I’m out and a lot of people are coming with me.”

If significant politicians on the left like Gabbard and Villaraigosa decide to be on the ballot he may very likely be removed.

All Republicans will vote to remove. Significant numbers of democrats and independents will vote to remove and replace with these.

Big trouble for Newsom

Especially if California is not fully open by then.

And a Democrat Hispanic candidate can be greatly assisted by ballot harvesting, would be great if it goes full circle and bites Newsom in the ass.

Newsom needs to hold over 50% (not remove) else the highest vote getter of the replacements is the new governor.

The Big Lie is taking the Republicans down the rabbit hole

Let’s be clear: Representative Cheney is not getting the heave-ho for anything else. It’s not because she isn’t sufficiently loyal to former President Trump, as much as she’s obviously not a big fan having voted for impeachment. And it’s surely not because she is a “warmongering fool” as Mr. Trump last month claimed. No, it’s specifically about her reluctance to embrace — or even stay silent, while others repeat — the pure fiction that the last election was stolen. And so let’s be doubly clear: That’s unhinged. It’s as if Republicans have decided that everyone must accept the orthodoxy of the Big Lie or be expelled from the party’s good graces. Major religions are more flexible on dogma than the GOP is on this detail. Never mind that it’s been disproven. Never mind that the claim has been laughed out of the courts. Never mind that polls show a majority of Americans aren’t buying the stolen election line. Liz Cheney is about to be branded a heretic.

What’s happened is that the Republican Party has painted itself into a corner and rather than admit the mistake or backtrack or even allow an internal dispute, they have decided to go all-in on the lies. The “why” is easy to figure out. It’s not just what Mr. Trump wants (although that’s a big part of it), it’s where their core supporters reside. The same polls that show Democrats and independents know this particular emperor is naked, reveal about two-thirds of rank-and-file Republicans either firmly believe or at least suspect Joe Biden’s victory was somehow illegitimate. To admit to reality now would be, shall we say, a bit uncomfortable for Republican leaders who have happily ventured down this rabbit hole to its nuttiest corners. That includes the ongoing Arizona “audit,” where people are being paid to search for ballots in Maricopa County that might have traces of bamboo fiber suggesting they were fakes flown in from South Korea. This is being done, of course, by by a company with no experience in such matters that is owned by someone who traffics in election conspiracy claims. And did we mention without safeguards to make sure ballots aren’t being tampered with now?

Under different circumstances, we might find this bizarre turn amusing. It might even be seen as helpful to President Biden to the extent that it’s turned the opposition into a bickering stage production of “Harvey” with the entire cast claiming to see the 6-foot 3-inch white rabbit. But the country actually needs a sane opposition party. The Democrats hold no lock on wisdom. The increasingly liberal party’s New Deal approach of multitrillion-dollar recovery spending merits rational debate. As much as we generally support Mr. Biden’s policies, we also believe in the legislative process. Unfortunately, one side is now missing from action in that regard. How can there be rational debate in Congress when the most basic reality, how the last election was decided, can’t be mutually agreed upon? Meanwhile, the Big Lie continues to spill out into Republican-held state legislatures which keep approving restrictions on voting that could prove ruinous, not just for minorities, but for the future of American democracy itself.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

It’s telling that Ms. Cheney’s replacement is likely to be Rep. Elise Stefanik, an ideologically flexible New Yorker formerly associated with the party’s centrists (having worked for Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign and voted against the 2017 tax cuts) who has recast herself as a Trump loyalist. And in recent interviews, she has signaled that whatever the “message” of Republicans in the House, that will be her message, too. That may be how one gets ahead in that increasingly dysfunctional political party but it’s not in the interests of a nation in desperate need of integrity and reason from that side of the aisle.

This isn't conservative versus Liberals, this is about the survival of the United States of America. If the minority is allowed to control the country, we will not prevail.

SWING VOTERS Say Ousting Cheney Is a Mistake

A new Engagious/Schlesinger focus group of swing voters holds a near-unanimous view that Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and his caucus are making a mistake by removing Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) from the House GOP leadership.

“Nine of 14 voters said they could vote for a Republican for U.S. House or Senate races next year. All but one ruled out backing any candidate who clings to the former president’s lie that the 2020 election was stolen from him.”

Key finding:
“13 of the 14 said Cheney should not be removed and that it would be a mistake for House Republicans to go through with their plans.”

House Republicans purged Representative Liz Cheney of Wyoming from their leadership ranks on Wednesday, voting to oust their No 3 for her refusal to stay quiet about Donald J. Trump’s election lies, in a remarkable takedown of one of their own that reflected the party’s intolerance for dissent and unswerving fealty to the former president.

The decision took place by voice vote during a brief but raucous closed-door meeting in an auditorium on Capitol Hill on Wednesday morning, after Ms. Cheney made a defiant final speech that drew boos from her colleagues.

In her remarks, Ms. Cheney urged Republicans not to “let the former president drag us backward,” according to a person familiar with the private comments who detailed them on condition of anonymity. Ms. Cheney warned that Republicans were going down a path that would bring their “destruction,” and “possibly the destruction of our country,” the person said, adding that if the party wanted a leader who would “enable and spread his destructive lies,” they should vote to remove her.

Republicans did just that, after greeting her speech with boos, according two people present, speaking on the condition on anonymity to discuss an internal discussion. They ultimately opted not to hold a recorded vote, after Representative Kevin McCarthy of California, the Republican leader, said that they should vote by voice to show unity.

Emerging from the meeting, Ms. Cheney remained unremorseful, and said she was committed to doing “everything I can to ensure that the former president never again gets near the Oval Office.”

“We must go forward based on truth,” Ms. Cheney told reporters. “We cannot both embrace the big lie and embrace the constitution.”

THE BIG LIE will go down in history as the most dangerous situation in history.
