Brian Beute had been a teacher for almost two and half decades when he got the idea in his head to run for local office. A week after Beute filed his paperwork to run for tax collector of Seminole County, Florida, the school where he’d worked for 17 years received an anonymous letter falsely accusing him of an improper relationship with a student. Soon, sock-puppet accounts appeared online parroting the same lie. Beute went on administrative leave, and two weeks later, an investigation by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Department cleared his name.
Beute went back to work, and kept campaigning. It would take almost eight months before local police, and later federal investigators, would unravel the scheme and ultimately arrest the man responsible for spreading those lies: Joel Greenberg, the Seminole County tax collector Beute sought to unseat. In addition to attempting to smear Beute as a pervert and a racist, Greenberg was later accused of a host of other crimes — 33 in total — including using drivers licenses confiscated by his office, embezzling and diverting nearly half a million taxpayer dollars to purchase cryptocurrency and sports memorabilia, and defrauding a Covid relief program. It was many months before Beute realized the investigation that started with Greenberg’s false accusations against him would ultimately threaten to take down a sitting congressman and one of former President Trump’s closest allies on Capitol Hill, Florida Rep. If within the confines of my job, I decided to provide my political opinions along with my proposed solutions to the issues our clients face, I would quickly be fired. There is no place in my job for me to provide others with my personal political opinion.
A teacher is hired to do the job of teaching the subject that they are teaching. There is no factual basis for critical race theory. It's not really as much a theory as it is political rhetoric. That fact that responses to are largely driven down political lines is even more proof that it is a political opinion rather than a fact.
So just like I am not allowed to toss my politics into my job, neither should a teacher. A math teacher should teach math. A history teacher should teach history. A chemistry teacher should teach chemistry. Critical race theory is a political opinion and our schools and classrooms are not about teachers providing students with their own personal opinions. Nor should our school boards or administrators be pushing teachers to provide them with these opinions.
If a teacher wants their freedom of speech. Do it outside of the job. Just like the rest of America.
Ch seems to think that what goes on in classes is just a teacher telling students what they must believe by ramming it down their throats.
That would be wrong.
Just as it would be wrong for a teacher to suppress the abundant evidence we have that there have been and still are large racial problems in the country.

I am a law professor, and while I don’t teach Critical Race Theory, I have experience as an academic and practitioner with human rights, civil rights, and the constitutional implications of race.
The central principles of CRT and of the 1619 Project are undeniably true:
Enslavement of millions of Black people was a crime with millions of victims, that caused fathomless suffering, and that exploited unpaid labor.
The work of enslaved Black people helped build this country.
After slavery, decades of Jim Crow era laws and institutions enforced racism that hurt Black people in every aspect of life.
The racism of enslavement and Jim Crow eras shaped present-day laws, institutions and perceptions.
The cumulation of racism in our history means that there is systemic racism in our country today.
It is the work of all Americans to understand this history in order to end racism and begin to heal its wounds.
None of this is “ahistorical.” And it is not vile to speak these truths. It is vile to ignore them and it is vile that racism continues.
As to the wrong-headed argument offered by some critics that CRT is “Marxism,” one of the nation’s leading CRT professors used to be a corporate lawyer (he worked for the same big corporate law firm that I did). Both of us are capitalists.
Some of the leading figures in CRT and the racial justice movement are successful financially, and they have earned this success the old-fashioned American way — by working hard and being good at what they do. We don’t want Marxism. We just want racial justice and equality.
The authors of an opinion piece from the Heritage Foundation are wrong to argue that CRT and the 1619 project are “anti-American” and reject American human rights principles (The Capital, May 19).
The lead author of “1619,” Nikole Hannah-Jones, described America as “a terribly flawed but miraculous country.” She also said that Black Americans have been “the perfectors of American democracy” because they believed in and fought for the freedom and equality promised in the Declaration of Independence and Constitution even when those rights were violently taken from them.
That is not hating America and its principles. That is loving America and making those principles come true.
CRT, “1619,” and the racial justice movement are continuing a human rights journey that
started with the Declaration,
continued with the Constitution,
followed by the Bill of Rights,
post-Civil War civil rights amendments,
and the 1960′s civil rights laws.
All of these things have grown our country freer and stronger.
The charges leveled by the authors of the op-ed are dangerous. They wrongly cast advocates for racial justice as anti-American because they want to shed light on the truth of racial injustice and the need for repair. This turns good people into hate objects and has very real and awful results.
Racial justice advocates in public office, journalism, and academia get death threats or called the “n-----” slur.
Teachers are forced to take their emails off public sites, and worry about the safety of their spouses and their children.
Those of us who are White should be mindful that there is a long and horrible history of wrongly accusing people of color with being disloyal to the country or its values when they stand up for their rights.
The authors of the op-ed wrote to call for opposition to a Biden administration education regulation. This regulation calls for
education about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights,
teaching about the contributions of Black Americans,
and improving racial equity in education.
These are all worthy goals.
No one is calling for
canceling the Constitution,
Declaration of Independence,
or Founding Fathers.
Though the op-ed authors try to spread alarm about the Biden administration and its “woke allies” and accuses them of believing that the “government should racially discriminate,”
the regulation itself is the model of racial equality.
Here is what the preamble to the regulation actually says (quoting racial justice scholar, Ibram X. Kendi):
“there is nothing right or wrong with any racial group.”
If you love something, you can’t just love it when it’s right.
You have to love it when it’s wrong.
The way you do that is by fixing what is wrong.
Nothing is more wrong in our country than racism.
CRT, “1619”, and the racial justice movement are speaking out and calling on us to face the truth about racism in our country, together, and to end that racism, together. Nothing is more American than that.

SEN. JOHN CORNYN, R-Texas, suggesting that Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will drag the commission’s work well into the middle of 2022: “Well, part of the concern is that’s the plan. That’s Pelosi’s plan ... That would be the Democrats’ dream.” — interview with CNN on May 19.
THE FACTS: Those claims of a delayed report are untrue. The bill calls for the report to be complete by the end of this year.
According to the legislation, the “final report” from the bipartisan commission, whose members would be evenly divided among Democrats and Republicans, must be submitted to the president and Congress “not later than December 31, 2021.”
There is a subsequent 60-day period for the commission to finish administrative tasks, such as to distribute the report and provide testimony to congressional committees, which would come in the early part of 2022. But the panel’s investigation, including all findings, conclusions and recommendations, would need to be fully complete this year.
So there has not been a roadblock to Senate Republican support for the panel based on the report’s timing as Collins and others describe it.
Collins said she wants an independent commission and is talking with House leaders about her issues with the bill, including how staffing is handled. She wants assurances that the panel’s staff, along with commission members, will be bipartisan. The legislation calls for the chairperson, who would be appointed by Democrats, to hire staff “in consultation with the vice chairperson,” who would be chosen by Republicans. Collins said Sunday that staff should be either jointly appointed by both parties or staffed in equal numbers by both sides.

Like I said before this is The Red Scare. Claiming that CRT Antifa and Black Lives Matter is Communism is political nonsense.
Republicans cannot allow a legitimate investigation into Jan. 6 because Republicans and Trump were responsible for Jan. 6. It’s really that simple.
The only course, moving forward—is for Democratic House leadership to appoint a select committee.
The Republican refusal to agree to the bipartisan 1/6 Commission bill could actually be a blessing in disguise. It will free Pelosi to set up a January 6 Select Committee in which Democrats will be more firmly in charge — as Republicans were on the Benghazi committee. The Benghazi investigation was a political stunt, but this investigation is deadly serious. We must get a full accounting of the events of Jan. 6 despite Republican attempts to bury the truth. If we do, Republicans may come to regret their opposition to the bipartisan 1/6 Commission.

When I was in school, they used to let teachers preach about religion to students. My biology teacher in 11th grade was a classic religious preacher. Somewhere along the line it was decided that just because you are a teacher and have some freedom of speech, you don't get to preach your personal views to the class.
This guy was clever in that he would often use certain complexities of biology to suggest that there was no other explanation (other than god) for why something was the way it was.
Of course back then, probably 90% of our class went to some sort of Christian church. So it wasn't necessarily an unpopular opinion. But yet it was an opinion and we eventually decided that a biology teacher should teach biology, not religion. So we no longer allow our teachers to preach religion to students.
Whether or not that is "jamming it down anyone throats" is irrelevant.
