What are they afraid of - part XCVIII

There are three points that are obvious to me when it comes to 2020 election audits.
  1. That they should have been done immediately following the election without having to go through weeks or months of court battles
  2. That the sort of audits being conducted are unlikely to find the sort of fraud or tampering that these counties have been accused of
  3. That it is well past time to move on from 2020 and focus on creating new laws that completely overhaul the methods that we use to count and report on the elections
The fact that audits were fought at all gives the appearance of guilt. Arguing that audits have been done is fairly dishonest. Election results have certain checks and balances (audits as it were) already in place. But these are cursory checks and really designed to weed out possible mistakes, not possible malfeasance. Even your basic hand recount is simply rooting out mistakes, not identifying fraud.

But even a more drawn out audit is unlikely to find smoking gun evidence of malfeasance.

I have never been one to believe that ballot box machines were switching votes or some of the more outlandish theories that have been provided. It's possible that ballots could have been double counted, but there has been months since the election and there has been plenty of time to have covered those tracks. Keep in mind that one of the more serious allegations from the Maricopa audit has been that they have been finding ballot boxes that had the seal broken. That in and of itself has no real good explanation, but it would be nearly impossible to prove anything above and beyond the fact that they were tampered with.

Not a single person on the left will allow for the least bit of outrage for a tampered ballot box.

If there was fraud or tampering at the county levels, then it happened within the first few hours or few days of the election. It would have been done in a manner that would not leave a trail to follow. There are likely 101 different ways to cheat if one was so inclined. At least 99 of them would leave no trail. Why used a method that does? Only the daft and arrogant would do so.

This is why I have said over and over and over that we should be looking "forward" and producing new laws and procedures to make our elections more secure and to finally address the issues with the post election counting. I would rather see no additional audits of the 2020 elections and instead have the GOP lawmakers put their energy into securing more laws like the one coming out of Georgia.

Even if one could provide absolute evidence that the explanation for these statistically improbable results was malfeasance, it wouldn't change the election results.  The whole audit thing seems to be both a political play and an exercise in futility. They will score points with certain groups by performing them. They will make Democratic counties look guilty when they oppose them, then they will turn around and be dissatisfied with the results and demand more.

This is exactly the same playbook that was used to undermine the 2016 election of Donald Trump. When the first congressional investigation fails to come back with evidence of collusion. They do another. When the FBI does not come back with evidence of collusion, they order a Special Counsel. Every time they came back empty. Every time they demanded more investigations. Even when the final report was brought back in May of 2019 (imagine us still investigating 2020 in 2023) there were those still unsatisfied.

But just as there are those who reject the notion that over two years of investigations coming up empty proved there was no collusion, there are going to be those who will reject the notion that more audits coming back without a smoking gun proves there was no fraud. Not sure what point there is to demand anything differently.

Every single election was recounted three times and the Justice system denied over 60 appeals but you continue the big lie.

Seeking racial justice, goes far beyond justice for George Floyd.

It extends to the fundamental right to choose our leaders.

Leading the Georgia ballot review effort is Garland Favorito, a political gadfly in Georgia who has lingered on the conspiracy fringe of American politics for decades. In 2002, he published a book questioning the origin of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. He has also trafficked in unproven theories about the Kennedy assassination and, in 2014, he appeared in a video promoting the idea that the 14th Amendment was itself unconstitutional and argued that the federal government was therefore illegitimate and should be overthrown.

In an interview, Favorito cited his “15 years” of experience as a self-styled elections investigator, saying he had been first motivated by Georgia’s purchase of new election machines that did not maintain paper-ballot records. He said his concerns about the 2020 election stemmed in large part from affidavits filed by former election officials who claimed they had handled ballots that appeared to be counterfeit because they were either not folded, appeared to be marked by a machine or were printed on different stock. (There is no evidence of widespread use of counterfeit ballots.)

Although Favorito refused to accept the findings of the recounts and audits already done in Georgia, he said he would be satisfied if, after inspecting the ballot copies, he and his team found no problems.

But he does not view leading Republicans in Georgia — some of whom, such as former Sen. Kelly Loeffler, have been vocally supportive of his efforts — as allies.

“The Republican establishment hasn’t reached out, whatsoever,” he said, adding that he had not voted for Trump but for a third-party candidate. And the funding for the inspection, he said, would come from “patriots” making small-dollar donations. “We don’t have any big money.”

The spread and repetition of false claims about the election follows familiar patterns for disinformation, which often occupies segmented corners of the internet and social media. Forces both algorithmic and organic will surface content — such as theories of election fraud based on grainy social media videos or anonymous allegations — for people who are inclined to agree with it.

Ch tries to equate the possibility of "collusion," which would be something going on behind the scenes between Trump and the Russians to try to influence the outcome of the election, but without actually falsifying the actual vote totals by tampering with ballots and/or machines or in tabulating the results.

THAT is what Trump means when he complains of "rigging" the election.

And audit after audit and recount after recount and court challenge after court challenge show THAT IT JUST PLAIN DID NOT HAPPEN.

Sorry Reverend...

Until someone can statistically explain to me how Joe Biden got about 250,000 more mail in ballot votes than the known partisan breakdown and general exit polling suggests... or how the amount of Democratic voters mysteriously was 30% higher in one or two counties than everywhere else in the same state...

You will not convince me of anything by typing in bold letters.

But it does wage an interesting question, Reverend.

Where were you taught that using bold letters was a substitute for logic? Did they come up with that one in how to argue like a liberal 101?

C.H. Truth said...

I will say you are correct, Reverend.

There really isn't a comparison between possible conspiracy between two people and election malfeasance.

The former can be either found or not found by a hardcore criminal investigation. You can arrest, hassle, even charge a whole bunch of people around the President. You can raid the offices of his attorneys (illegal btw). You can subpoena anything and everything. You can even use illegal means to wiretap people. You can spend tens of millions of dollars on a staff of dozens whose only job is to find the proof of conspiracy and collusion.

If you fail to find collusion or conspiracy despite looking through every text and email and covering every possible base of where it might be found... you can probably conclude that there was no collusion or conspiracy.

But the latter is much easier to hide and much harder to find. Especially if you have done things like manufacture ballots, forge signatures, or in the case of certain states, you didn't need to forge signatures because no identification for a mail in ballot was necessary. If someone drops off 1000 ballots to a drop box sitting a street, there would be no way to find that those ballots were fraudulent during an audit.

You could literally do a 100 audits and short of calling everyone who was known to have voted, asking them to provide you their vote and then aligned that with the previous total... you would never know for sure if the election results were fair or accurate. Even under those circumstances people could lie about how they voted.

So you are correct... no comparison.

While I kind of agree with CHT one thing I would like to see is all elections that utilize vote counting machines utilize a duplicate feed using different vendors. Feed all the ballots in machine-1, box them up ship to location-2 with machine-2 and run the exact same ballots through. Counts should match. May double some costs but imo would be worth it. And should all be done on election day. If people want to vote by mail make them have to arrive by election day. Send them in early...

Also if a scale says I weigh 400 lbs getting off the scale and then back on is not usually going to produce a different weight even if it is wrong. Doing a "recount" using the same machine is really not worth much...

The Arizona audit with manual counts actually is.

An analysis done by Voto Latino, and provided to the Washington Post, “showed that during the 2020 election, the group collected 617,714 complete voter registration applications — a 123% percent increase over their projected goal for the cycle.”

Said María Teresa Kumar, CEO of Voto Latino:
“The younger Latinx was a larger share of the overall Latino electorate, the state swung for Biden: Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. If this trend holds true: Texas and North Carolina will be next in play as younger Latinos eclipse older generations.”

She added:
“Florida, where the Latino vote share is older, will be harder to flip.”

Corrections & clarifications: This story has been updated to correct the poll's name as a Reuters/Ipsos poll.

WASHINGTON – One-fourth of the country says Donald Trump is the "true president" of the United States, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.

More than six months after the 2020 election and four months after Joe Biden's victory was confirmed by Congress, 25% of Americans surveyed, including 53% of Republicans, say Trump is still the "true president," a finding in line with polls showing that a significant portion of the USA does not accept the legitimacy of the presidential election.

The poll surveyed 2,007 Americans, including 909 Democrats and 754 Republicans, in an online sampling from May 17-19. The poll has a credibility interval of plus or minus 4 percentage points. Ipsos relied on its own online panel for responses, while soliciting responses in online ads through a process known as "river" sampling. Such methods are not as rigorous as traditional polling methods.

NEW YORK — Manhattan's district attorney has convened the grand jury that is expected to decide whether to indict former president Donald Trump, other executives at his company or the business itself should prosecutors present the panel with criminal charges, according to two people familiar with the development.

Support our journalism. Subscribe today.

The panel was convened recently and will sit three days a week for six months. It is likely to hear several matters — not just the Trump case — during the duration of its term, which is longer than a traditional New York state grand-jury assignment, these people said. Like others, they spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation. Generally, special grand juries such as this one are convened to participate in long-term matters rather than to hear evidence of crimes charged routinely.

The move indicates that District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr.’s investigation of the former president and his business has reached an advanced stage after more than two years. It suggests, too, that Vance believes he has found evidence of a crime — if not by Trump then by someone potentially close to him or by his company.

The information can not be released until a trial hearing.

If the people who worked for him in criminal activity, they would plead guilty to reduced crime or testify against Trump. In public.

Well, by that argument... you have to follow the law, then?

If an abortion is made illegal after 6 weeks... then I guess by your logic a woman would have to follow that law?

Oh and there is no actual "law" that prevents a person to enter a airplane without a mask without a mask mandate. Even then, the Governor orders are variables of laws and the questions are murky as to whether or not you could be arrested.

The decisions for airlines to behalf differently is a private company policy based on whatever guidance they believe they are getting from the CDC. It's not a law. And if a state created a law that made it illegal for a private company to demand a vaccine passport, then the airlines would be the ones in violation of the law (not someone boarding).

I think you confuse policy with law.

Btw... the idea of being vaccinated is that you are not susceptible to catching it. If someone doesn't have Covid, they cannot pass it.

If, in your infinite wisdom, you choose to both get vaccinated and still want the "extra protection" of a mask, then nobody is stopping you from wearing one yourself and that would be a decision you could make.

But when did "you" get to decide that someone else (who may or may not be vaccinated) has to wear one for the sake of your comfort?

UT Southwestern Medical Center hosts the Gender Education and Care Interdisciplinary Support (GENECIS) program, which is the “first and largest program in the southwest that provides multidisciplinary care to transgender children and adolescents.” While the program does not offer surgery to children, it does offer a number of so-called “treatments” that may amount to chemical castration, including hormone therapy, menstruation suppression, and puberty.

“Our team has impacted thousands of youth across the country and is a vital resource for patients, families and communities,” their website reads. “We support youth of all gender expressions and identities, and provide evidence-based, gender-affirming care in a supportive and safe environment,” it continues, claiming that “gender identity is unique for every child and may be different from the sex assigned to them at birth.”

Campaign finance records show that the Friends of UT Southwestern Center, also known as FOMCPAC, handed out well over $250,000 in total to a number of top Texas politicians who were recently involved in shutting down multiple pieces of legislation that would have prevented hormone treatment and surgery from being provided to supposed transgender children in the state.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who National File has been told led the charges against the bills designed to protect children, received $85,000 from the transgender clinic PAC since 2015.

This is almost as crazy as Scott MD hated masking.

Top congressional leaders condemned Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Tuesday after the Georgia Republican compared a supermarket’s face-mask policy to the Nazi practice of labeling Jews with Star of David badges.

The outburst — which was denounced within hours by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer and others — is the latest instance of extreme rhetoric from the freshman lawmaker, who has ridden an embrace of far-right conspiracy theories and fervid support for former president Donald Trump to notoriety, power and outsize campaign fundraising.

“Vaccinated employees get a vaccination logo just like the Nazi’s forced Jewish people to wear a gold star,” Greene tweeted early Tuesday morning, linking to a news story on a Tennessee supermarket chain’s decision to include a special logo on the name badges of vaccinated employees. (The Nazi badges were yellow.)

It's as crazy as you were in February of 2019

It’s only fair that we get at least ONE crazy if Democrats are going to have Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Cori Bush, Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff, Eric Swalwell, and more.

Greens Accept Millions From Natural Gas & Renewable Energy Interests

Environmentalists, progressives, and Greens in the United States and Europe have long spoken out forcefully for human rights, energy security, and reducing air pollution. They demand stronger protections of indigenous people in places like Brazil. They advocate energy produced locally and domestically rather than imported. And they say we should take significantly stronger measures to reduce carbon emissions.

And yet none of the world’s largest environmental groups or most prominent environmental leaders have condemned China’s use of enslaved labor to make solar panels with coal, the replacement of Europe’s nuclear plants with natural gas, or the increasingly dangerous dependence of the U.S. and Europe on Chinese solar and Russian natural gas, respectively. continues

BREAKING: Veteran Election Officials Say 30,000 Fake Ballots Found In Georgia Audit, ‘They’re Not Real’"Six affidavits now, we had four, now it's six. Six affidavits of veteran election officials are alleging that up to 30,000 of these 147 [thousand] ballots are fake," said John Fredericks.

After a judge ordered 145,000 Fulton County absentee ballots to be unsealed, “Outside the Beltway” host John Fredericks explained on Steve Bannon’s “War Room Pandemic” series that Georgia election officials are alleging that up to 30,000 of the ballots are fraudulent.

“Six affidavits now, we had four, now it’s six. Six affidavits of veteran election officials are alleging that up to 30,000 of these 147 [thousand] ballots are fake,” said Fredericks. “Somebody printed them up on a machine and ran them through the vote counting machines. They’re not real. They’re not attached to anybody.” Another revelation was that the ballots were unfolded and printed on a different paper than the regular absentee ballots, according to Fredericks.

“Number one, they’re on different paper. What kind of paper are they on? Why isn’t it the same paper that everything else is on? Number two, they’re not folded. Well, what do you mean they’re not folded? In order to get an absentee ballot, you have to get it in the mail,” said Fredericks. “Which means that the Department of Elections in Georgia machine folded the ballot, you can’t have a ballot in an envelope that you mail back, or dropbox back, that’s not folded. You either got it folded, or you send it back folded, or both with an envelope. So why aren’t they folded?”

Additionally, 97% of the ballots were supposedly for Joe Biden and Jon Ossoff, and the affidavits suggest that the bubble marks were made by a machine instead of a pencil, explained Fredericks. “The fourth thing is the affidavits say that these bubble marks are not made by an ink pen or a pencil, that they’re made by a machine.”

Nashville Prosecutor Won’t Enforce New Bathroom Law
8:02 pm EDT
“Nashville’s top prosecutor said Monday that he will not enforce a newly enacted law that requires businesses and government facilities open to the public to post a sign if they let transgender people use multiperson bathrooms and other facilities associated with their gender identity,” the AP reports.

Said Nashville District Attorney General Glenn Funk:
“I believe every person is welcome and valued in Nashville. Enforcement of transphobic or homophobic laws is contrary to those values. My office will not promote hate.”

GOP Lawmaker Kicked Student In Testicles
7:58 pm
A high school student reported that Kansas state Rep. Mark Samsel (R), working as a substitute teacher, “manhandled him and kicked him in the testicles during class, and the lawmaker told authorities that God told him to do it,” ABC News reports

Kansas City Star:
“Numerous videos taken by students that day show Samsel ranting about God, the Bible, masturbation and suicide.”

GOOD!
Court Docs Show Wide Scope of Feds’ Giuliani Probe
7:53 pm
“Court documents unsealed Tuesday show that the scope of information seized by prosecutors during the investigation of Rudy Giuliani is wider than was previously understood,”
CNN reports.

AND TRUMP IS LAYING LOW ON THIS ONE.

IMPORTANT:
Manchin and Sinema Implore GOP to Back Jan. 6 Probe
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ)
“pleaded with Republicans on Tuesday to drop their opposition to creating an independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, in an 11th-hour attempt to prevent its collapse on the floor,”
the New York Times reports.

“The maneuvering amounted to a long-shot effort to salvage what may be the best chance at a full, bipartisan accounting for the most violent attack on the Capitol in centuries and a stunning series of security failures around it.”

Ohio Democrats Move to Expel Ex-GOP Speaker
“A group of Democrats
from Ohio’s House of Representatives say they are tired of waiting for Republicans to expel former Speaker Larry Householder who was arrested last year on federal bribery and racketeering charges,”
the Columbus Dispatch reports.

“They plan to introduce a resolution Wednesday that would remove the Republican from office.”

Republicans Have a Brand Problem
OH YES, THEY DO!

6:08 pm
Charlie Cook:
“But there is another risk beyond nominating fringe or flawed candidates. Republican leaders and other elected officials in Washington and in many state capitals are projecting great confidence that this election will be a referendum on the incumbent president, rather than on their own actions.

“Granted, that is the norm, but it doesn’t seem as if many in the Republican Party are concerned about how their brand looks to anyone beyond their most loyal customers.”

AND THIS IS VERY, VERY, VERY IMPORTANT
Grand Jury Convened In Trump Criminal Probe

5:16 pm EDT

“Manhattan’s district attorney has convened the grand jury that is expected to decide whether to indict former president Donald Trump, other executives at his company or the business itself should prosecutors present the panel with criminal charges,”
the Washington Post reports.

“The panel was convened recently and will sit three days a week for six months. It is likely to hear several matters — not just the Trump case — during the duration of its term, which is longer than a traditional New York state grand-jury assignment… Generally, special grand juries such as this one are convened to participate in long-term matters rather than to hear evidence of crimes charged routinely.

“The move indicates that District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr.’s investigation of the former president and his business has reached an advanced stage after more than two years. It suggests, too, that Vance believes he has found evidence of a crime — if not by Trump then by someone potentially close to him or by his company.”

1 year anniversary
- Darnella Frazier
She recorded the video of the murder of George Floyd Jr. that charged her world. She was just 17.

A year ago, today I witnessed a murder. The victim’s name was George Floyd. Although this wasn’t the first time, I’ve seen a black man get killed at the hands of the police, this is the first time I witnessed it happen in front of me. Right in front of my eyes, a few feet away. I didn’t know this man from a can of paint, but I knew his life mattered. I knew that he was in pain. I knew that he was another black man in danger with no power. I was only 17 at the time, just a normal day for me walking my 9-year-old cousin to the corner store, not even prepared for what I was about to see, not even knowing my life was going to change on this exact day in those exact moments... it did. It changed me. It changed how I viewed life. It made me realize how dangerous it is to be Black in America. We shouldn’t have to walk on eggshells around police officers, the same people that are supposed to protect and serve. We are looked at as thugs, animals, and criminals, all because of the color of our skin. Why are Black people the only ones viewed this way when every race has some type of wrongdoing? None of us are to judge. We are all human. I am 18 now and I still hold the weight and trauma of what I witnessed a year ago. It’s a little easier now, but I’m not who I used to be. A part of my childhood was taken from me. My 9-year-old cousin who witnessed the same thing I did got a part of her childhood taken from her. Having to up and leave because my home was no longer safe, waking up to reporters at my door, closing my eyes at night only to see a man who is brown like me, lifeless on the ground. I couldn’t sleep properly for weeks. I used to shake so bad at night my mom had to rock me to sleep. Hopping from hotel to hotel because we didn’t have a home and looking over our back every day in the process. Having panic and anxiety attacks every time I seen a police car, not knowing who to trust because a lot of people are evil with bad intentions. I hold that weight. A lot of people call me a hero even though I don’t see myself as one. I was just in the right place at the right time. Behind this smile, behind these awards, behind the publicity, I’m a girl trying to heal from something I am reminded of every day. Everyone talks about the girl who recorded George Floyd‘s death, but to actually be her is a different story. Not only did this affect me, my family too. We all experienced change. My mom the most. I strive every day to be strong for her because she was strong for me when I couldn’t be strong for myself. Even though this was a traumatic life-changing experience for me, I’m proud of myself. If it weren’t for my video, the world wouldn’t have known the truth. I own that. My video didn’t save George Floyd, but it put his murderer away and off the streets. You can view George Floyd anyway you choose to view him, despite his past, because don’t we all have one? He was a loved one, someone’s son, someone’s father, someone’s brother, and someone’s friend. We the people won’t take the blame, you won’t keep pointing fingers at us as if it’s our fault, as if we are criminals. I don’t think people understand how serious death is...that person is never coming back. These officers shouldn’t get to decide if someone gets to live or not. It’s time these officers start getting held accountable. Murdering people and abusing your power while doing it is not doing your job. It shouldn’t have to take people to actually go through something to understand it’s not ok. It’s called having a heart and understanding right from wrong. George Floyd, I can’t express enough how I wish things could have went different, but I want you to know you will always be in my heart. I’ll always remember this day because of you. May your soul rest in peace. May you rest in the most beautiful roses. - Darnella Frazier

LEFT-CENTER BIAS

These media sources have a slight to moderate liberal bias. They often publish factual information that utilizes loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes) to favor liberal causes. These sources are generally trustworthy for information, but may require further investigation. See all Left-Center sources.

Factual Reporting: HIGH

Notes: Outside the Beltway is an online journal of politics and foreign affairs analysis. They claim their views are Classical Liberal: a strong belief in free trade, limited government, and respect for human rights. In reviewing articles I found a general left-center position with multiple articles criticizing President Trump. Outside the Beltway also criticizes climate change denial and respects human rights, which falls more in line with the political left. On the flip side, they have articles in support of the Citizen United decision based on their interpretation of the constitution. This aligns more with the political right. Overall, our review turned up more left-leaning articles and therefore we rate Outside the Beltway left-center biased with well-sourced factual reporting. (D. Van Zandt 7/22/2017)

New Hampshire Auditors Find Reason For Discrepancy in Votes, Scan Only Counted 28 Percent of Test Ballots for GOP Candidates

In the latest audit update, auditors in charge of examining votes in Windham, New Hampshire may have discovered why initial results showed a discrepancy in the vote count for a democratic candidate.

As reported by Human Events News in February, the Windham Board of Selectmen unanimously requested an investigation into what exactly happened on November 3, as did several of the republicans and democrats involved in the races.

There was an official vote recount held that, while not changing the declared winners (all republicans), did find the four republican candidates had votes materially undercounted by just over six-percent. This appears to be the largest recount-to-actual difference in the history of New Hampshire elections.

While republicans did win all four seats on November 3, a democrat candidate – Kristi St. Lauren – requested a recount, which was granted because she lost by 24 votes.

However, during the recount, it was revealed that she didn’t lose by 24. Rather, the GOP candidates had actually received 300 additional votes, while St. Laurent lost 99, the Epoch Times reports.

Auditors involved in the process said they may have discovered why there was a discrepancy in the initial results and the recount tally.
