Federal law enforcement at the U.S.-Mexico border stopped 178,622 people trying to enter the country illegally in April, the highest amount in more than two decades. The April total is up 3% from 172,331 in March, which was a 20-year high for the number of people who tried to get into the United States by sneaking over between land crossings or were denied entry at border checkpoints. Roughly 5,160 of the 178,622 people encountered were denied entry at a port of entry, while the remainder went across the border in unfenced areas.
It is the third month since President Joe Biden took office and introduced major reforms to border processes that the number of people trying to immigrate has greatly increased. Over the past decade, an average of 30,000 to 50,000 people was encountered trying to get across the southern border unlawfully every month.
Things are getting more than a little ridiculous, and the claim that this is somehow normal is not a legitimate response. At the end of the day, these sort of crises is what defines Presidents and Presidential leadership. So far, Biden has not appeared anywhere near up to the task. Turning things over to Kamala Harris would be considered delegation, if Kamala Harris was actually planning on every doing anything about it.
At this point the Administration is doing nothing other than blaming others for the situation. Even if they were not personally to blame (which they are) they are still responsible to fix it. So far the Biden Administration is reminding me of the early Obama administration. Early on Obama seemed irritated that there were parts of the job that were not about the pie in the sky ideas he wanted to implement as a matter of policy. That the day to day running of the country got in the way of what he wanted to "accomplish". But at the end of the day, Presidents do not write bills or pass legislation. They are the chief executive and much of their job is about putting out fires and basically managing the country.
Joe Biden is supposed to be fixing this problem. He doesn't even appear slightly interested.

I am not.
It’s so fun to watch the complete demise of the Republican Party.
Under the esteemed leadership of one-term failed former president Donald J. Trump, the GOP lost:
•The House of Representatives
•The Presidency
•The Senate
By all means, please keep this liability around. Please 🙏
Look! Look at the border!
Ch wants to scream, desperate because Americans are looking elsewhere.

Earmark Tally for Highway Bill Is $14.8 Billion
“More than 73 percent of House members have requested earmarks in the federal highway bill.
“In all, 318 members of Congress submitted 2,380 projects for the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to consider in its upcoming surface transportation bill… Of those requests, 1,775 came from Democratic members and 605 came from Republican members.
“The total cost of the earmark requests released Tuesday by the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is $14.8 billion.”

Democrats Must Lean Into the Tax Fight
Dan Pfeiffer:
“The idea that Biden’s proposals to raise taxes on corporations and the wealthy are a political liability flies in the face of all of the polling as well as basic common sense.
"If Congressional Democrats shy away from a tax fight, they will be passing up their best opportunity to upend historical trends and expand their majorities in the midterms.”

Garland And Mayorkas To Testify On Growing Threat Of Domestic Violent Extremism
Attorney General Merrick Garland and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas are set to testify before the Senate Appropriations Committee later today at a hearing aimed at investigating the growing threat of domestic violent extremism.
Both are expected to discuss new initiatives they plan to launch in their respective departments to combat rising domestic terror threats as they call on lawmakers to approve $100 million of additional funds in President Joe Biden’s budget request.
Garland’s opening statement is expected to address the department’s increasing focus on domestic violent extremists, and cite the FBI’s assessment that the top domestic terrorism threat facing the country comes from white supremacists, while also highlighting a rising tide of hate crimes.
According to remarks previewed by the Washington Post, Garland will note a “deepening collaboration” with foreign countries to explore possible links between domestic and foreign violent extremists, as well as sharing information with tech companies “to help them address the spread of domestic violent extremist activity online.”
Garland will also detail his experience overseeing the investigation into the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing and how the terrorism the country witnessed that whose roots can be seen in threats the homeland now faces.
“The horror of domestic violent extremism is still with us,” Garland is expected to say, while condemning the “heinous attack” and “intolerable assault.”

The question is - Is he even aware?
Take it from someone who has dealt with an elderly relative with sundowner's syndrome. You tell them something and they've forgotten it in a matter of hours or even minutes. It doesn't appear that even with daily reminders Stairmaster Joe has the cognitive ability to retain knowledge of the situation at the border.
The poor fuck is in cognitive free fall.

Liz Cheney is a bitter, horrible human being. I watched her yesterday and realized how bad she is for the Republican Party. She has no personality or anything good having to do with politics or our Country. She is a talking point for Democrats, whether that means the Border, the gas lines, inflation, or destroying our economy. She is a warmonger whose family stupidly pushed us into the never-ending Middle East Disaster, draining our wealth and depleting our Great Military, the worst decision in our Country’s history. I look forward to soon watching her as a Paid Contributor on CNN or MSDNC!
"...the FBI’s assessment that the top domestic terrorism threat facing the country comes from white supremacists, while also highlighting a rising tide of hate crimes."

the top domestic terrorism threat facing the country comes from the FBI and DOJ being controlled by partisan democrats

They never faced serious consequences last time
Donald Trump almost never says anything I can agree with, but here he comes close:
"...[her] family [FATHER, ACTUALLY] stupidly [add LYINGLY] pushed us into the never-ending Middle East Disaster, draining our wealth and depleting our Great Military, the worst decision in our Country’s history."

Where is the border guru Kamala Harris?

Well if he read the New York Times he was told their was no gas lines or supply problem

Like the border Trump left relationships between Israel and Arabs in the best shape in a very long time.
Didn't take Joe very long at all to destroy that.
I hope we have a country left by the time he is finished with his trail of destruction

Liz Cheney and Donald Trump in happier days.

I asked a Republican who spent time with Representative Liz Cheney last week what her thinking was in speaking out so forcefully, so unyieldingly, against Donald Trump’s lie that the 2020 election was rigged and stolen, despite knowing that this might cost the three-term congresswoman her political career.
“It’s pretty simple,” this person, who requested anonymity in order to speak openly, told me. “She decided she’s going to stay on the right side of her conscience.”
“She wasn’t going to lie to stay in leadership,” he added. “If telling the truth was intolerable, she knew she wasn’t going to keep her leadership position.”
Ms. Cheney was certainly right about that. Early on Wednesday, House Republicans ousted her from her position as the chairman of the House Republican conference, the No. 3 leadership slot, one her father held in the late 1980s. The next priority of Mr. Trump and MAGA world? To defeat her in a primary in 2022.
The takedown of Representative Cheney was not an “inflection point,” as some have called it. It was the opposite — the latest (but it won’t be the last) confirmation that the Republican Party is diseased and dangerous, increasingly subversive and illiberal, caught in the grip of what Ms. Cheney described in The Washington Post as the “anti-democratic Trump cult of personality.”
“Remaining silent and ignoring the lie emboldens the liar,” Ms. Cheney, unbroken and unbowed, said in a speech on the House floor Tuesday night. “I will not participate in that. I will not sit back and watch in silence while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law and joins the former president’s crusade to undermine our democracy.” Her Republican colleagues, cowardly and classless, cleared the chamber as she began her remarks. But they can’t escape her searing indictment.
Declaring fealty to a lie has become the single most important test of loyalty in today’s Republican Party. Everyone recognizes this, but from time to time we need to stop to register its true significance.
“It’s a real sickness that is infecting the party at every level,” Barbara Comstock, a Republican who represented Virginia’s 10th Congressional District before Mr. Trump’s unpopularity in the suburbs sunk her chances in the 2018 election, told Lisa Lerer of The Times. “We’re just going to say that black is white now.”
This should come as a surprise to exactly no one. For more than five years, the Republican Party and its leading media propagandists embraced and championed Mr. Trump’s mendacities, conspiracy theories and sociopathic tendencies. As a result, their brains became rewired, at least metaphorically speaking; the constant accommodation Republicans made to Mr. Trump caused significant cognitive distortions.
As a result, they have detached themselves from thecoldheartedtruth.
The conspiracy theories and sociopathic tendencies, caused significant cognitive distortions.

The escalation in Israel and Gaza over the past 24 hours is horrific. Rockets fired by Hamas have now killed at least three Israelis and wounded more. Intensive retaliatory strikes by the IDF have killed and wounded dozens in Gaza.
Our thoughts are with our family, friends, staff and partners in the region -- and with all Israelis and Palestinians who are living in fear for themselves and their loved ones, and those who are today grappling with unimaginable grief and loss.
Israel has a clear right to defend its citizens from rockets and terror attacks. At the same time, we know that there is no long-term military solution to this crisis, and that escalations and intensive Israeli strikes cause devastation for the people of Gaza. We also know this escalation began following the incendiary efforts of Israeli settler groups to evict hundreds of Palestinians from their homes in East Jerusalem.
Right now, it’s critical that the Biden administration engage proactively in securing an immediate ceasefire and pushing all sides to de-escalate. With lives on the line, our government can and should be doing more.
[We are] calling on President Biden to push for de-escalation, to work toward brokering a ceasefire and to commit to sustained leadership to address the root causes at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict -- including the ongoing injustice of the occupation.
Tell President Biden, urgent US leadership is needed in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
As a global superpower and Israel’s closest ally, the United States is no mere bystander in this conflict. As the Trump presidency demonstrated all too clearly, US engagement has the capacity to reduce violence or to exacerbate it, to address injustice or compound it. Our voice, our values and our leadership are vital.
While the Biden administration is committed to a two-state peace agreement, we need our leaders to go beyond rhetoric, to commit to bold diplomacy, to promote solutions -- and to push back on dangerous policies and injustice. We cannot leave this issue on the backburner and get involved only when the casualties are mounting. We must take initiative.
Join us in urging the administration to commit to sustained leadership not only to end the immediate violence, but to end an unacceptable status quo. We’re urging them to:
*Appoint a Special Envoy charged with addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and with outlining a clear strategy to support the rights of both Israelis and Palestinians to peace, security and self-determination.
*Fast-track the urgent provision of humanitarian assistance to Gaza to address the destruction of infrastructure and medical services, and the worsening COVID-19 crisis.
*Make clear to the Israeli government that forcing Palestinian families from their homes in occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank is against international law, and that the use of force against peaceful Palestinian protesters is unacceptable.
...Without our leadership, the unacceptable, deteriorating status quo means perpetual injustice for Palestinians and a continual risk of violence endangering both peoples. It empowers extremists and endangers millions of Israelis and Palestinians who deserve and long for peace.
We know where that situation leads us -- to painful violence and suffering like we’ve seen the past few days. The Biden administration can and must do more to stop the fighting and make sure there isn’t yet another escalation like this in a few months or years.

Law and order doesn't matter to you unless the ex President told them to shoot beaners
Biden has a plan, but he's struggling.
President Biden rolled out a proposal to overhaul the nation's immigration system on his first day in office.
But on Day 100, he shifted to talk about a more targeted, pragmatic approach.
It left some advocates feeling abandoned.
"He said in his speech ... 'Oh, I fulfilled my promise. Now it's off my hands. The Congress now needs to pass,' " said Gema Lowe, an undocumented organizer with the group Movimiento Cosecha. "So he's washing his hands by saying that ... instead of fighting and putting pressure to pass a bill, not just introducing the bill."
In his first joint address to Congress last week, Biden reupped his call to pass his sweeping immigration overhaul. But at the same time he conceded the odds were stacked against the proposal getting enough Republican support to pass.
He urged Congress to approve smaller measures to protect farmworkers and people brought to the country illegally as children, which both already passed in the House.
"If you don't like my plan, let's at least pass what we all agree on," Biden said. "Congress needs to pass legislation this year to finally secure protection for DREAMers, the young people who have only known America as their home."
The escalation in Israel and Gaza over the past 24 hours is horrific. Rockets fired by Hamas have now killed at least three Israelis and wounded more. Intensive retaliatory strikes by the IDF have killed and wounded dozens in Gaza.
There was 4 years of peace in Israel and the Palestinian Territories while Donald Trump was president.
Under Biden inflation jumped 4.2%.
Under Biden the US lost sovereignty over the US border.

Inflation in April accelerated at its fastest pace in more than 12 years as the U.S. economic recovery kicked into gear and energy prices jumped higher, the Labor Department reported Wednesday.
The Consumer Price Index, which measures a basket of goods as well as energy and housing costs, rose 4.2% from a year earlier. A Dow Jones survey had expected a 3.6% increase. The month-to-month gain was 0.8%, against the expected 0.2%.
Excluding volatile food and energy prices, the core CPI increased 3% from the same period in 2020 and 0.9% on a monthly basis. The respective estimates were 2.3% and 0.3%.
The increase in the headline CPI rate was the fastest since September 2008.
Energy prices overall jumped 25% from a year earlier, including a 49.6% increase for gasoline and 37.3% for fuel oil. That came even though most energy categories saw a decline in April.
Prices at the pump, which fell 1.4% in April, have resumed their climb in May, with the national average eclipsing $3 a gallon for the first time since November 2014, according to AAA. Further rises are likely from Friday’s cyberattack that shut down Colonial Pipeline’s main transmission line from Houston to New Jersey.
Used car and truck prices, which are seen as a key inflation indicator, surged 21%, including a 10% increase in April alone. Shelter, another key CPI component, was up 2.1% year over year and 0.4% for the month.
