Is the right now winning the culture war?

BREAKING: Tanner Cross, a Virginia elementary school teacher and ADF client who was suspended for raising concerns to the board about a proposed gender policy, has won a temporary injunction and the judge has ordered his reinstatement.
A Virginia teacher must be reinstated from leave after telling the school board he wouldn’t address transgender students by their pronouns, a judge ruled.
The court granted Tanner Cross’s request for a temporary injunction immediately, saying the district must allow him to return to his position and stop banning him from Loudoun County Public Schools property.
Judge James E. Plowman Jr. wrote that he granted the injunction because Cross’s rights to speech and religious liberty are central to the case….

I'd like to point out that this is an elementary school. As far as I remember, I was never addressed as "Mister" in all the time I went to elementary school. Probably not addressed that way in Jr High or High School, either. I think it would the use of first names would be the going rule and we can be done with 8-10 year old children demanding that adults call them Mister or Missus.

The school suggested that this was done because of complaints from Parents. I doubt it. If there is one thing that we are learning is that most Parents are against politicizing the classroom. They are tired of the inmates running the asylum and tired of teachers demanding that their own personal politics should be curriculum.

The Coming Biden/Putin Train-Wreck Summit

written by ron paul

monday june 7, 2021

I have my doubts whether the Putin-Biden summit in Geneva will take place later this month, but even if somehow it is pulled off, recent Biden Administration blunders mean the chance anything of substance will be achieved is virtually nil.

The Biden Administration was supposed to signal a return of the “adults” to the room. No more bully Trump telling NATO it’s useless, ripping up international climate treaties, and threatening to remove troops from the Middle East and beyond. US foreign policy would again flourish under the steady, practiced hands of the experts.

Then Biden blurted out in a television interview that President Putin was a killer with no soul. Then US Secretary of State Antony Blinken discovered the hard way that his Chinese counterparts were in no mood to be lectured on an “international rules-based order” that is routinely flouted by Washington.

It’s going to be a rough ten days for President Biden. Just as news breaks that under the Obama/Biden Administration the US was routinely and illegally spying on its European allies, he is preparing to meet those same allies, first at the G7 summit in England on June 11-13 and then at the June 14th NATO meeting in Brussels.

Make no mistake, Joe Biden is up to his eyeballs in this scandal. Ed Snowden Tweeted late last month when news broke that the US teamed up with the Danes to spy on the rest of Europe, that “Biden is well-prepared to answer for this when he soon visits Europe since, of course, he was deeply involved in this scandal the first time around.”

Though Germany’s Merkel and France’s Macron have been loyal US lapdogs, the revelation of how Washington treats its allies has put them in the rare position of having to criticize Washington. “Outrageous” and “unacceptable” are how they responded to the news.

Russia has been routinely accused (without evidence) of malign conduct and interference in internal US affairs, but it turns out that the country actually doing the spying and meddling was the US all along – and against its own allies!

Surely this irony is not lost on Putin.

Biden has bragged in the US media that he would be taking Putin to task for Russia’s treatment of political dissidents like Alexei Navalny. Biden wrote recently in the Washington Post, that when he meets Putin, “I will again underscore the commitment of the United States, Europe and like-minded democracies to stand up for human rights and dignity."

Perhaps President Putin will remind him of how the Biden Administration continues the slow-motion murder of Julian Assange for the non-crime of being a journalist exposing government misdeeds.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Perhaps Putin will remind Biden of how US political dissidents are being treated, such as the hundreds arrested for what the Democrats and the mainstream media laughably call the “January 6th Insurrection.” Many of these non-violent and unarmed protesters have been held in solitary confinement with no chance of bail, even though they have no prior arrests or convictions. Most await trial on minor charges that may not even take place until next year. Insurrection is treason

The Washington foreign policy establishment is hopelessly corrupt. The weaponization of the US dollar to bring the rest of the world to heel is backfiring. Only a serious change in course – toward non-interventionism and non-aggression – can avert a disaster. Time is running out.

Cross told the school board last month he could not abide by a proposed policy that would violate his beliefs.

He was suspended 48 hours later and was told he had engaged in conduct that had disrupted the operations of Leesburg Elementary School where he teaches.

Cross told the board his religious beliefs would prevent him from addressing students by their chosen pronouns rather the ones consistent with their biological sex.

In remarks that lasted less than a minute, Cross told the board he does not believe a biological boy can be a girl and vice versa. He called it abuse to a child and sinning against God.

The truth is that it is a first amendment right to not say certain words.

Although I think the teacher is a bit bigoted by his religious beliefs.

It's always tricky in regards to the first amendment rights.

But the school district has the authority to provide written information about the surnames.

NEW: I asked @LeaderMcConnell if he would define 1/6 as an “insurrection”. His response:

“Look I've said a lot about that already. I said it on January 6 I said it again on February 13th. I covered that comprehensively and I really don't think there's anything I can add.”

McConnell did not use the term “insurrection” during either of those speeches. He did call the event a “riot” and those involved as part of a “mob”, and that they “used terrorism to try to stop a specific piece of domestic business they did not like.”

His response is significant because in a new report from the Senate Homeland Security Committee, the events of January 6th are specifically not referred to as an “insurrection.”

It's already being taught. The wonder of it was that it was a slave owner that put slavery on the path to abolition when he wrote in the Declaration of Independents "We hold these truths to be self-evident. That all men are created equal, and they are endowed by their creator certain unalienable rights. Among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

And it was not just America. Before 1776 the slavery was ubiquitous though out the world. The idea of equality put forth by Jefferson spread like wildfire and led to abolition of slavery though out the British Empire and the European colonies.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden ended talks with a group of Republican senators on a big infrastructure package on Tuesday and started reaching out to senators from both parties as he strives to build bipartisan compromise while laying the groundwork for a potential Democrats-only approach on his top legislative priority.

The president is walking away from talks with lead Republican negotiator Sen. Shelley Moore Capito after the two spoke Tuesday. While Biden expressed gratitude to the West Virginia senator for her “good faith” efforts, he also shared his “disappointment” with the GOP senators' latest offer, said White House press secretary Jen Psaki.

“The President is committed to moving his economic legislation through Congress this summer, and is pursuing multiple paths to get this done,” Psaki said in a statement.

The breakdown comes as the two sides failed to broker the divide over the scope of the president's sweeping infrastructure investment and how to pay for it.

The Republican senators offered a $928 billion proposal, which included about $330 billion in new spending — but not as much as Biden's $1.7 trillion investment proposal for rebuilding the nation's roads, bridges, highways and other infrastructure, including Veterans Affairs hospitals and care centers.

Another Republican lie exposed

for much of the past year, some experts have quietly advanced a counterargument: that economic activity is mainly affected by the rising and falling severity of the pandemic itself — not the relative strictness of the measures implemented to mitigate it. In fact, these experts argued, nonpharmaceutical interventions, or NPIs — a set of 20 government responses such as business closures, mask mandates and stay-at-home advisories that Oxford University rates according to stringency — can have an economic upside. The more the virus seems to be under control, the more eager people will be to participate in the economy.

Last week, this argument got a boost with the publication of a new report by economists at the University of California, Los Angeles. According to the latest quarterly UCLA Anderson Forecast, not only did big states with more stringent COVID measures end 2020 with fewer infections per capita, they also tended to post better economic growth numbers last year than states with fewer restrictions.

In other words, California’s economy actually fared better than Florida’s.

Yahoo News spoke with economist Jerry Nickelsburg, the director of the UCLA Anderson Forecast, to find out more.

Yahoo News: Is it now fair to say that so-called lockdown states performed better economically than so-called looser states during the 2020 pandemic?

Jerry Nickelsburg: That is correct. We generally view economic performance through the lens of gross domestic product. On average, GDP declined in 2020, and it declined everywhere. But those declines were smaller in states with more stringent nonpharmaceutical interventions than states with less stringent NPIs.

That’s the opposite of the conventional wisdom. In Florida, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis is telling voters, in effect, “I saved the economy by opening bars and banning masks.” What made you suspect that the prevailing narrative — this idea that there’s a trade-off between public health and the health of the economy — might be wrong?

It was something that we started to see in Scandinavia. It's something we saw in the 1918-19 influenza pandemic as well. It seemed to be more than just a fluke.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

When you say “something,” what do you mean?

The evidence suggested that policies that are good for people’s health during a pandemic — like NPIs — are not necessarily bad for the economy. There might even be a positive correlation. But early on, we did not have any 2020 pandemic data to answer that question. So it was open for debate.

But now we have that data.

Now we do.

Walk us through what it says.

The states that were considered for this analysis are basically the states that produce most of the U.S. GDP — states with a population of 5 million or greater. We found two things. First, California had more stringent interventions and a lower infection rate than either Texas or Florida, two states to which it’s often compared. Yet California also performed better with respect to GDP than either Texas or Florida. Second, the same pattern showed up across all big states: On average, the ones with more stringent interventions had both better health outcomes and better economic outcomes.

Teacher Brittany Myers, center, at a protest in front of the Hillsborough County School District office in Tampa on July 16, 2020. (Octavio Jones/Getty Images)More

How do we know this has anything to do with COVID restrictions? Couldn’t it just be a coincidence — that some state economies were better suited to weather this particular storm, regardless of how stringent their interventions were?

To be sure, states have different economic compositions. But that’s one reason we didn’t include small states like North Dakota. Even though it had very poor health outcomes, North Dakota can do very well in terms of GDP when oil prices go up, because of the dominance of petroleum production in the value of goods and services produced there.

In contrast, large states typically have more diverse economies. And when you line them up according to their interventionist policies, you find that states that intervened more heavily tended to have fewer COVID cases per capita and smaller declines in GDP.

Some policies that can realistically stem the illegal immigration crisis:

- Completion of the barrier at our southern border
- Enact mandatory E-Verify
- Require asylum seekers to apply in their home country or the nearest safe location

Biden's infrastructure talks with GOP collapse amid irreconcilable differences
NBC Universal

June 8, 2021, 5:28 PM
WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden's infrastructure talks with Republicans collapsed on Tuesday, the lead GOP negotiator said.

"I spoke with the president this afternoon, and he ended our infrastructure negotiations," Republican Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, of West Virginia, said in a statement.

The end of talks will increase pressure on Democrats to pass a sweeping package using a special process that doesn't require any Republican votes.

Weeks of negotiations between the White House and Republicans failed to bring the two parties close to a deal. They remained far apart on a total price tag for a bill, which types of projects should be included and whether to raise any new taxes.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said that as negotiations "seem to be running into a brick wall," Democrats are "pursuing a two-path proposal" that includes focusing on new talks between a group of senators from both parties, including Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., and Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio.

"So that's good. But that's not going to be the only answer. We all know as a caucus we will not be able to do all the things that the country needs in a bipartisan way. So at the same time, we are pursuing the pursuit of reconciliation," Schumer said, referring to the process of passing legislation with a simple majority in the Senate, which Democrats used to advance the $1.9 trillion Covid-19 relief law.

"It may well be that part of the bill that'll pass will be bipartisan and part of it will be through reconciliation. But we're not going to sacrifice the bigness and boldness in this bill," he said.

Senate Budget Committee Chair Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., said Democrats are "working hard on a budget resolution," and argued that it "makes absolute sense" to start moving the vehicle, which would allow them to evade a filibuster and make changes to spending and tax laws without Republican support.

"Given the crises that we're facing, the Republican proposal is totally inadequate, and we've got to go forward," Sanders told NBC News, adding that their plan doesn't address climate change, housing, health care and mitigating childhood poverty.

The bipartisan group of senators is accelerating its work, multiple sources said. In a sign that the White House is turning its attention to that group, Biden called a Republican member, Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, to discuss infrastructure.

"We're encouraged by these discussions and see them as an additional viable path forward," White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Tuesday. "We fully expect that there will be several pathways that are moving on different channels as we look to how we're gonna get this American Jobs Plan passed."

The senators — which include Sinema, Portman, Cassidy, Mitt Romney, R-Utah and Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., — are expected to present their plan to a group of 20 moderate lawmakers on Tuesday evening.

"We've pretty much agreed on the spending level. I'm sure there will be some adjustments as we go along, and the pay-fors," Romney told reporters on Monday. "We have a proposal that we'll take to the entire group and see how they feel about it."

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

The White House is reviewing another bipartisan proposal from the House Problem Solvers Caucus, according to a source familiar with discussions.

The co-chairs, Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Penn., met with a senior adviser to the president, Brian Deese, Monday night to go over their plan. The Problem Solvers have been working closely with the Plan B senators and their plans are similar, the source familiar said.

But questions persist about the viability of a bipartisan infrastructure plan.

Sen. John Barrasso, a member of Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s leadership team, cast doubt on the prospects of gaining 10 GOP votes for infrastructure.

"We’re at a point where to put a bipartisan program together with Republican votes, we’re as high as we go," Barrasso, of Wyoming, said.

In their latest offer, Republicans offered about $307 billion in new funding, far lower than the $1 trillion the president wanted. Republicans also rejected the new way to account for an inheritance tax and the 15 percent global minimum tax, two avenues proposed by the president to pay for the legislation.

But many Democrats are growing impatient.

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is marking up their $547 bill surface transportation bill Wednesday. It’s a signal that House Democrats are moving forward with their infrastructure bill regardless of where bipartisan talks between the Senate and the president stand.

The bill is just one part of $4 trillion in infrastructure spending Democrats want but is expected to be the base of the House's infrastructure bill.

In the end, the left recognizes it needs centrist Democrats like Manchin to pass anything meaningful.

"It’s Joe Manchin’s houseboat, we’re all just getting nauseous on it," said progressive strategist Sean McElwee, referring to where the senator lives while in Washington.

Senate Approves $250 Billion Bill to Curtail China
June 8, 2021 at 6:47 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The Senate voted on Tuesday to adopt a roughly $250 billion bill to counter China’s growing economic and military prowess, hoping that major investments in science — and fresh punishments targeting Beijing — might give the United States a lasting edge,” the Washington Post reports.

“The proposal commits billions of dollars in federal funds across a wide array of research areas. It pours more than $50 billion in immediate funding into U.S. businesses that manufacture the sort of ultrasmall, in-demand computer chips that power consumer and military devices, which many companies currently source from China. And it paves the way for the next generation of space exploration at a time when Washington and Beijing are increasingly setting their eyes on the stars.”

Democrats Use FEC Deadlock to Their Advantage
June 8, 2021 at 4:00 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 22 Comments

New York Times: “For more than a decade, Democrats seeking more robust enforcement of election laws and transparency measures have been routinely routed at the FEC, the nation’s top campaign watchdog agency. They have complained bitterly that Republicans have weaponized the commission’s bipartisan structure — there are three commissioners allied with both parties — to turn it into a toothless, do-nothing bureau.”

“Now, the Democratic commissioners have stealthily begun to strike back by leveraging some of the same arcane rules that have stymied enforcement efforts for years — namely, that a bipartisan vote is necessary to do almost anything — to make the agency do even less. The goal appears to be to take a commission widely seen as dysfunctional and create further deadlock, compelling federal courts to fill the breach when it comes to policing federal election law.”

So WHO'S winning the CULTURE WARS?

JamesNewLeaf's Fucking Daddy said...

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, today released the below statement following her call with President Joe Biden where he ended the infrastructure negotiations.

“I spoke with the president this afternoon, and he ended our infrastructure negotiations. As Republicans, we believe in our nation’s infrastructure, which is why our negotiating team—which consisted of the Ranking Members from the committees of jurisdiction—consistently worked in good faith with President Biden and were optimistic that we could reach a bipartisan agreement for the sake of the country. Throughout our negotiations, we engaged respectfully, fully, and very candidly—delivering several serious counteroffers that each represented the largest infrastructure investment Republicans have put forth.

“In our discussions with the president, he himself made it clear that he was willing to accept an offer around $1 trillion, that baseline spending would and could be included, and that a plan could stretch over an 8-year period of time. The president also understood one of our red lines, which was not undoing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, which has helped so many Americans. Our latest offer, coupled with legislation the Senate is expected to pass today, would have exceeded the president’s threshold.

“Despite the progress we made in our negotiations, the president continued to respond with offers that included tax increases as his pay for, instead of several practical options that would have not been harmful to individuals, families, and small businesses.

“While I appreciate President Biden’s willingness to devote so much time and effort to these negotiations, he ultimately chose not to accept the very robust and targeted infrastructure package, and instead, end our discussions. However, this does not mean bipartisanship isn’t feasible. The Senate EPW Committee continues to demonstrate bipartisan action on infrastructure. In a one-month period, our committee passed a bipartisan water and wastewater infrastructure bill out of the Senate and passed a surface transportation bill unanimously out of committee. Moving forward, I will continue building on this momentum and working with my colleagues to advance bipartisan solutions like these.

“After negotiating in good faith and making significant progress to move closer to what the president wanted, I am disappointed by his decision."

During Joe Biden’s appallingly divisive speech in Tulsa last week, he basically claimed little has changed in America since a century ago when millions of white supremacist Ku Klux Klansmen routinely lynched innocent black people for fun. “Millions of white Americans belonged to the Klan,” Biden insisted, and their “hate became embedded systematically and systemically in our laws and our culture.”

Got that? America is still a bastion of hateful, low-IQ, white-supremacist terrorists – and people of color aren’t safe anywhere.

It has been clear for some time now that the left’s implementation of social justice in higher education would eventually come for the hard sciences.

At the University of Texas at Austin, Dell Medical School is now preparing to focus the curriculum on ‘health equity.’

Nicole Villalpando reports at the Austin American-Statesman:

Dell Medical School adds health equity as one of its primary focuses for students’ curriculum

Beginning next year, Dell Medical School students will have a greater focus on health equity in their studies.

The medical school at the University of Texas is adding an eighth focus of study, which it calls a core competency, to the curriculum. It joins the other core competencies: leadership and innovation; patient care; medical knowledge; communication; practiced-based learning and improvement; systems-based practice; and professionalism.

Under the health equity core competency, students will learn about the historical context of discrimination, how to recognize structural and social determinations of health, and structures of oppression within medicine. They also will learn how to identify their own biases and privileges; how to build relationships with a diverse group of people; and how to work with community-based partnerships. They will be taught how to advocate for inclusion and intervene when they see barriers, discrimination, biases and microaggressions.

Dr. Beth Nelson, associate dean of undergraduate medical education, said the school began looking at how to teach health equity when it opened in 2016, with a milestone in 2018 when it hired an associate dean of health equity.

Do you feel better knowing that your doctor may be able to identify biases and microaggressions in the future?

The Association of American Medical Colleges supports the plan.

This is getting worse every day over and over again and again and again

"You would think with all the public policy debates that are taking place right now, the Republican party would be engaged in a significant debate about how are we going to deal with the economy, what are we going to do about climate change, what are we going to do about — lo and behold, the biggest single most important issue to them apparently right now is critical race theory,”

Rep. Mo Brooks is strictly an armchair insurrectionist.
On Jan. 6, the Alabama Republican incited Trump followers to sack the Capitol. “Today is the day American patriots start taking down names and kicking ass!” he told the crowd at a pre-riot rally. “Now, our ancestors sacrificed their blood, their sweat, their tears, their fortunes, and sometimes their lives…. So I have a question for you: Are you willing to do the same? My answer is yes. Louder! Are you willing to do what it takes to fight for America? Louder!”
But when it came time to be held to account for inciting the deadly insurrection, Brooks chose flight, not fight.
Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) sued Brooks, along with former president Donald Trump and others, for the damage caused by the insurrection. But Brooks, unlike the other defendants, refused to accept service of the court papers — prompting Swalwell to hire a private investigator to hunt him down. A weeks-long cat-and-mouse game ensued, and Brooks proved so elusive that the judge granted his pursuers a 60-day extension.
On Sunday, the process servers finally caught Brooks (or, rather, his wife, Martha). The aggrieved lawmaker fired off a tweet accusing Swalwell’s P.I. of “sneaking INTO MY HOUSE & accosting my wife!“ — and, attaching a photo of Alabama’s trespassing statute, declared that he would seek an “arrest warrant” for the “criminal trespass.”
Brooks tweeted the photo, of his computer screen, in such haste that he evidently didn’t notice it included what appeared to be a PIN and his Gmail password taped to his monitor. Apparently, taking a screenshot exceeded Brooks’s technical capabilities.
Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) helpfully tweeted advice to his colleague: “Never tape PW to computer.”
Could it be any more embarrassing for Congressman Luddite? Well, consider that he is a member of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Cyber, Innovative Technologies and Information Systems.
And consider Brooks’s absurdly selective outrage. He provoked hundreds of Trump supporters to invade the Capitol, injuring hundreds of police and leading to several deaths. But now he’s ALL-CAPS enraged because a nonviolent process server walked into his open garage.
Brooks is hoping Alabama voters will reward his stupidity by promoting him to the Senate next year. There is precedent for the state electing the dimwitted. Last year, Alabamians chose as their other senator former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville, a Republican who shortly after his election listed for an interviewer “all three branches of government…. You know, the House, the Senate and the executive.”

The current administration in Washington, D.C. is not elected and is not legitimate. As if confirming this fact, they’ve surrounded themselves with barbed wire and soldiers carrying machine guns. In so doing they implicitly acknowledge the danger posed—to them—by an armed and angry population. An AR-15 is not just a tool of last resort: It is a declaration that the last resort exists, a reminder that there are outer limits to the abuse of power.

Netanyahu Tries Trump Playbook to Stay In Power

“On the verge of being replaced after 12 years in power, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is waging a desperate, Trump-style campaign to de-legitimize the incoming government and accuse its leaders of perpetrating ‘the fraud of the century,'” Axios reports.

“The situation has become so tense — with members of the Israeli Knesset facing death threats and demonstrations from angry Netanyahu supporters outside their homes — that the director of Israel’s Shin Bet domestic security agency issued a rare warning of potential political violence.”

“President Joe Biden will touch down in Europe on Wednesday looking to repair relations with America’s closest allies in an effort to counter growing threats from China and Russia in his first big moment on the world stage since taking office,” NBC News reports.

“In many ways, it will be familiar turf for Biden. Few presidents have had his level of foreign policy experience, from decades on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to his time as vice president. But the world has experienced dramatic changes in the more than four years since Biden was last on the front lines of American foreign policy.”

Biden Quietly Moves to Start Closing Guantánamo
June 9, 2021 at 5:24 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 7 Comments

“President Joe Biden has quietly begun efforts to close the U.S. detention facility at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, using an under-the-radar approach to minimize political blowback and to try to make at least some progress in resolving a long-standing legal and human rights morass before the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001,” NBC News reports.

“After initial plans for a more aggressive push to close the facility — including rebuffed attempts to recruit a special envoy to oversee the strategy — the White House changed course, sources said. The administration has opted to wait before it reaches out to Congress, which has thwarted previous efforts to close the camp, because of fears that political outcry might interfere with the rest of Biden’s agenda.”

IRS Records Reveal How Wealthiest Avoid Income Tax
June 8, 2021 at 7:12 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 135 Comments

ProPublica has obtained “a vast trove of Internal Revenue Service data on the tax returns of thousands of the nation’s wealthiest people, covering more than 15 years. The data provides an unprecedented look inside the financial lives of America’s titans, including Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Rupert Murdoch and Mark Zuckerberg. It shows not just their income and taxes, but also their investments, stock trades, gambling winnings and even the results of audits.”

“Taken together, it demolishes the cornerstone myth of the American tax system: that everyone pays their fair share and the richest Americans pay the most. The IRS records show that the wealthiest can — perfectly legally — pay income taxes that are only a tiny fraction of the hundreds of millions, if not billions, their fortunes grow each year.”

NPR:
“Attorneys Michael Van Der Veen and Bruce Castor defended Trump at his Senate impeachment trial over allegedly inciting the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol insurrection. Even as van der Veen, Castor and the Trump defense team called the impeachment ‘political theater’ and ultimately secured Trump’s acquittal, they condemned the rioters for bringing ‘unprecedented havoc, mayhem and death’ to the Capitol. They argued in a legal brief that the rioters’ actions deserve ‘robust and swift investigation and prosecution.’”

“Now, van der Veen and Castor find themselves on the other side of those prosecutions, defending at least three people charged in connection with the Capitol breach.”
