What’s In Biden’s $3.5 Trillion Plan
July 14, 2021 at 2:04 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard
Washington Post:
“The proposal is expected to lay the groundwork for hundreds of billions of dollars in new spending for elder care, home care, child care, prekindergarten, paid family and medical leave, housing programs, and other education and safety net programs. The plan would also clear the way for hundreds of billions of dollars — and possibly close to $1 trillion — in climate-related legislation, including clean energy tax credits and more funding for electric vehicles.

“The emerging plan would also include an at least $300 billion expansion of Medicare… to cover dental, vision, and hearing care… Under the plan, these new benefits would be free for seniors in the program, which could start as soon as next year.

“To pay for these changes, Congressional Democrats are pursuing a slew of tax hikes on the rich and corporations, as well as major changes to the IRS to close the ‘tax gap’ … Other major new sources of revenue include raising the top marginal tax rate, increasing the corporate tax rate, and changes to the international tax system.”

How Democrats Will Pay For Their $3.5 Trillion Package
July 14, 2021 at 11:55 am EDT By Taegan Goddard
Washington Post: “To pay for these changes, Congressional Democrats are pursuing a slew of tax hikes on the rich and corporations, as well as major changes to the IRS to close the ‘tax gap’ — the difference between what taxpayers owe and what they pay.

“Other major new sources of revenue include raising the top marginal tax rate, increasing the corporate tax rate, and changes to the international tax system, among other potential measures.”

McConnell Blasts $3.5 Trillion Deal

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told reporters Wednesday that the Senate Democrats’ $3.5 trillion budget deal is “wildly out of proportion to what the country needs now,” at a time he says inflation is “raging,” The Hill reports.

Said McConnell: “What Democrats say they want to force through this summer through reconciliation would make our current inflationary mess look like small potatoes.”

The Moral Collapse of J.D. Vance
July 14, 2021 at 2:01 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard
Tom Nichols:
“What do we call a man who turns on everything he once claimed to believe? For a practitioner of petty and self-serving duplicity, we use ‘sellout’ or ‘backstabber.’ (Sometimes we impugn the animal kingdom and call him a rat, a skunk, or a weasel.) For grand betrayals of weightier loyalties—country and faith—we invoke the more solemn terms of ‘traitor’ or ‘apostate.'

“But what should we call J. D. Vance, the self-described hillbilly turned Marine turned Ivy League law-school graduate turned venture capitalist turned Senate candidate? Words fail. His perfidy to his own people in Ohio is too big to allow him to escape with the label of ‘opportunist,’ and yet the shabbiness and absurdity of his Senate campaign is too small to brand him a defector or a heretic.”

Workers, Wages and Weed
July 14, 2021 at 12:00 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard
Julie Oliver and Mike Siegel:
“Joe Biden, in defeating Donald Trump, won more votes than any presidential candidate in U.S. history. But as we saw with several ballot initiatives from this past election cycle, a handful of issues outperformed Biden in red and blue states — and may offer Democrats both a popular message and a slate of wedge issues to take to voters.

“We’ve dubbed these ‘workers, wages and weed.’

“Legislation supporting workers, improving wages and legalizing marijuana are progressive, Democratic policies. But they’re also extremely popular among Republicans and moderates.”

How Tucker Carlson Became the Voice for White Grievance
July 14, 2021 at 2:55 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard
Washington Post:
“What emerges is a portrait of an ambitious television personality who came of age in privilege — having grown up in an upper-class enclave and attended private schools — but who, by his own telling, is a victim. Carlson, in his writings and commentaries, has described resentment toward liberals as far back as the first grade.

“He has frequently ridiculed the notion that America should celebrate diversity and has lashed out repeatedly at the idea that he, as a White person, bears any responsibility for racism against Black people…. Two of the leading conservative activists battling critical race theory, an academic construct in which systemic racism is studied, credit him with the rapid rise of their movement, while Black scholars he frequently targets say he mischaracterizes and manipulates their work to suit his agenda.”

"This is a fraud on the American public," Trump said, beginning months of lies about the election results. "This is an embarrassment to our country. We were getting ready to win this election. Frankly, we did win this election."

"WHERE IS BIDEN?"

It's still in the Senate.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden stepped up his bid to push his multitrillion-dollar domestic plans through Congress Wednesday, lunching with Senate Democrats a day after party leaders announced a compromise for pouring federal resources into climate change, health care and family service programs.

“It is great to be home,” Biden told reporters as he left the building where he spent 36 years as a Delaware senator. “It is great to be with my colleagues, and I think we are going to get a lot done.”

The closed-door midday session, which lasted just under an hour, was Biden’s first working meeting with lawmakers at the Capitol since becoming president. Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut said the president urged them to consider whether their plan would help people in his blue-collar hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania.

“His point was that we need to be thinking about folks who have given up on democracy,” Murphy said.

Biden received three standing ovations from his fellow Democrats, said Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania.

The meeting was the start of Biden’s efforts to firm up support for forthcoming legislation embodying his priorities among Democrats, whose skinny congressional majorities leave him with virtually no votes to lose.

Late Tuesday, top Democrats announced an agreement among themselves on plans to spend a mammoth $3.5 trillion over the coming decade on a wide range of domestic programs, an expansion Biden has proposed financing with tax boosts on the rich and big corporations. Included in the proposal would be a top priority for progressives — an expansion of Medicare, the health insurance program for older Americans, to include vision, dental and hearing coverage.

According to a senior Democratic aide, the party will also propose extensions of tax credits for children, child care and some low-income people; money for environmentally friendly energy technologies and a federal standard aimed at encouraging a shift to clean energy. The plan would also fund pre-kindergarten for toddlers and paid family leave and a pathway to citizenship for many immigrants, said the aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe Democrats’ plans.

If it happens. And the 11 million illegal immigrants are given a path towards citizenship, the Democrats might get passed the Jim Crow 2 era.

Wokism is Treason said...

Controversy has surrounded the burning of the American flag for decades. But never has our republic seen such hostility to, and disapproval of, the display of the American flag as in recent years. This coincides with the rise of anti-Americanism, fueled by Marxist groups and disaffected Leftist factions. In the not-so-distant past, like in most countries, the destruction of our flag was punishable by fines and/or imprisonment.

In 1969, Supreme Court Justices Earl Warren, Hugo Black, and Abe Fortas had characterized flag desecration as a harmful action, not a form of speech, as those who cite the First Amendment would claim. They said the states and the federal government could protect the flag from desecration and disgrace. But in 1984, when a protestor set fire to an American flag outside the Republican National Convention in Dallas, his initial conviction for flag desecration was overturned by the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. On appeal, in what is now known as the Texas v. Johnson ruling of 1989, the Supreme Court decided 5-4 that burning the American flag, shredding it, or defecating or urinating on it, were forms of speech protected by the First Amendment.

Of late, many Americans have also been sickened by the sight of professional athletes “taking the knee” at the sight of Old Glory, during the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, and the singing of the national anthem. Ironically, this blatant contempt for America comes from those who have benefited most from the American idea of free enterprise, gaining multimillion-dollar contracts.

The hypocrisy of some basketball players and team owners couldn’t have been more obvious than when LeBron James and others disrespected the flag and the national anthem at a Laker’s opener against the Clippers last year. They were allegedly protesting racial inequality and police brutality. Only a week earlier, James had slammed those protesting for democracy and against China’s human rights violations in Hong Kong as “uneducated.” When Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey tweeted, “Fight for freedom, stand with Hong Kong,” the NBA apologized profusely and then silenced him.

Around the same time, the NBA, which had struck multimillion-dollar deals with various Chinese companies that make use of slave labor, admitted to having closed a training facility in Xinjiang, home to Uighur prison camps. This came after Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) harshly criticized the NBA for kowtowing to China’s demands in its pursuit of lucrative deals. Ironically, in China, flag desecration is prohibited -- and severely punished.

Black Lives Matter (BLM) organizations headed by self-admitted Marxist revolutionaries have condemned the American flag as a “symbol of hate.”  Their Utah chapter recently posted on their Facebook page, “When we black Americans see this flag we know the person flying it is not safe to be around.” When objections were raised the chapter responded with: “Welcome racists.  We know you are big mad about the racist flag post. You will not be heard here.  You will be blocked and your comments will be deleted.”

To return to what the cartoon on my desk decries, take the case of a California couple who, earlier this month, was charged with a hate crime. The couple was caught on video painting over a BLM mural emblazoned on the street in front of the courthouse in downtown Martinez. They strongly believe that the existence of racism is a “Leftist lie,” and are sick of “the narrative of police brutality, the narrative of oppression, the narrative of racism.” But it is a belief they are no longer free to hold or express -- despite the First Amendment. The local district attorney, supporting BLM, said, “We must address the root and byproduct of systemic racism in our country. The Black Lives Matter movement is an important civil rights cause that deserves all of our attention.”

Wokism is Treason said...

Meanwhile, the BLM movement -- avowedly Marxist, anarchist, against American constitutional order, and in favor of world revolution -- is forgiven the massive rioting, looting, arson, and assaults it perpetrated last summer. Leaders like Melina Abdullah continue to provoke the targeting of affluent white neighborhoods, and founder Patrisse Khan-Cullors proclaims BLM’s pursuit of “world communism” while enriching herself through real-estate deals and dubious donations.

It now seems that in America, symbol desecration, deemed a constitutional act of free speech by the Supreme Court, is privileged only to the “woke.” Patriotic Americans can neither fly their flag nor paint over disturbing murals that they disagree with and find distasteful.

But a fightback is underway -- at least in a small way. Five police officers in Palo Alto have sued the city for permitting a BLM mural with anti-police images. The mural features a convicted cop-killer who escaped to Cuba and bears the emblem of the radical New Black Panthers. The cops are demanding that an “atrocity” celebrating a fugitive cop-killer and in violation of state fair employment and housing laws be removed from in front of City Hall. They find it demeaning to pass it every day.

It’s time to fight for the right to remove from sight symbols that offend most patriotic, loyal Americans and promote the destructive agenda of the “woke.”

rrb said...

But never has our republic seen such hostility to, and disapproval of, the display of the American flag as in recent years.

In America we burn it.

While freedom-starved Cuban's furiously wave it. In Hong Kong as well.

It's quite remarkable really.

The American Flag is a symbol of freedom and liberty everywhere except America.

And the American left is proud of this. They even call it "progress."

The law firm representing the officers told ABC7 News in a statement:

"It is important to note that the lawsuit, nor the plaintiffs, have any issue whatsoever with the mural at issue in general nor the BLM movement. The only issue was with two icons/pictures within one of the letters - the image of Assata Shakur and the image of the New Black Panthers - that the Police Officers association simply asked be removed from the mural on two occasions. They were told 'no.'"

How Democrats Will Sell Their $3.5 Trillion Plan
July 14, 2021 at 3:30 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 44 Comments
“Democratic leaders are gaming out several scenarios for muscling through the behemoth one-party spending bill given their razor-thin majorities in the House and Senate,” Politico reports.

“Among the scenarios under consideration earlier this week was for House Democrats to vote on the party’s budget blueprint first, reasserting the lower chamber’s role in a process that has publicly been seen as more Senate-driven, according to several Democratic aides. By Wednesday, however, that approach seemed less likely. There’s also the question of whether Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer will put the bipartisan infrastructure bill — assuming a deal is reached — up for a vote before the budget blueprint.”

Washington Post:
“Biden’s salesmanship opens a new political chapter in what will probably be a winding, tough debate in Congress, particularly because Democrats are divided over whether they should take the early deals they have reached, including with Republicans, or try to leverage their narrow majorities in Washington to seek more federal spending.”

ECONOMY
Wholesale prices rose 7.3% in June from a year ago for a record surge

Wholesale prices for June rose more than expected in another sign that inflation is moving at a faster pace than markets had anticipated.

The producer price index, which measures what companies get for the goods they produce, increased 1% from May and jumped 7.3% on a year-over-year basis. That marked the second month in a row in which the PPI set a record for a data series that goes back to 2010.

Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for a 0.6% monthly increase. Stripping out volatile food, energy and trade prices, the core PPI increased 0.5%, in line with estimates.

The PPI headline surge comes a day after the Labor Department reported a 5.4% year-over-year jump in the consumer price index, the biggest move for that measure since 2008.

Wikipedia Co-founder Warns: ‘Wikipedia Is More One-Sided Than Ever’

Larry Sanger, a co-founder of Wikipedia, warned that the online encyclopedia is “more one-sided than ever” in light of the website’s entries for Black Lives Matter, the 2020 election, former President Donald Trump’s two impeachments, and other contentious topics.

Sanger, in particular, took issue with how some Wikipedia entries are sourced.

“In short, and with few exceptions, only globalist, progressive mainstream sources—and sources friendly to globalist progressivism—are permitted,” he wrote in an article on his website.

Several centrist news outlets such as The Daily Telegraph, The Wall Street Journal, and The Weekly Standard are sometimes allowed to be sourced, he said, but Wikipedia editors are “careful never to leave the current Overton Window of progressive thought.”

Unlike Facebook and Twitter, which take more top-down approaches to content moderation, Wikipedia, which turned 20 years old earlier this year, largely relies on unpaid volunteers to handle issues around users’ behavior, editing entries, and other aspects of the site’s management.

Wikipedia has 230,000 volunteer editors who work on crowdsourced articles and more than 3,500 “administrators” who can take actions such as blocking accounts or restricting edits on certain pages, according to a Reuters article.

Sanger suggested that Wikipedia’s editors have “systematically purged conservative mainstream media sources” because its editors “do not want what they dismiss as ‘misinformation,’ ‘conspiracy theories,’ etc., to get any hearing. In saying so, they (and similarly biased institutions) are plainly claiming exclusive control over what is thinkable. They want to set the boundaries of the debate, and they want to tell you how to think about it.”

Sanger noted that Wikipedia has banned Fox News’ political reporting, the New York Post, and the Daily Mail from being used as sources.

According to a Wikipedia page on the sources that can be used, other conservative websites such as Breitbart, The Blaze, The Daily Wire, The Gateway Pundit, and Newsmax are also banned.

“Many mainstream sources of conservative, libertarian, or contrarian opinion are banned from Wikipedia as well, including Quillette, The Federalist, and the Daily Caller,” he added. “Those might be contrarian or conservative, but they are hardly ‘radical’; they are still mainstream. So, how on earth can such viewpoints ever be given an airing on Wikipedia? Answer: often, they cannot, not if there are no ‘reliable sources’ available to report about them.”

“It is not too far to say that Wikipedia, like many other deeply biased institutions of our brave new digital world, has made itself into a kind of thought police that has de facto shackled conservative viewpoints with which they disagree,” Sanger wrote in a conclusion on his website. “Democracy cannot thrive under such conditions: I maintain that Wikipedia has become an opponent of vigorous democracy.”

But democracy, he argued, “requires that voters be given the full range of views on controversial issues, so that they can make up their minds for themselves.” full article:

Yesterday we wrote on The Georgia Record that unknown armed individuals saying they were from the Georgia Secretary of State’s office entered polling stations in Georgia in an intimidating manner and disturbed polling staff during special election runoffs for the GA state legislature.

From sourcing yesterday:

About 35 minutes ago two armed representatives from SOS walked in. Dressed in black utility clothes. Huge belts at their waist. Glocks. Their demeanor resembled rental cops. No indication of disciplined training. Man and a woman. Woman not physically fit. The poll manager has never seen anyone in that role so must be new. The man had embellished sense of authority. They went in and casually examined the scanners. They said our poll was randomly selected. Precinct supervisor has never seen armed reps fròm SOS. I went to the parking lot and there was not a car with govt tags. No car that looked official. A staffer said she never has seen those type of reps. They were not friendly and did not greet or shake hands with the poll manager. I suspect they are not on state payroll .. not employees but hired by SOS from a private firm to mildly intimidate and send a message. If I learn more I will let you know.

They basically walked in on their own authority and started looking at and talking about the scanners where votes are actually cast.

Just discussed with poll manager. He thinks SOS has hired his own police force. The question is why?

We now have more information from a source.

Someone at SOS confirmed the existence of the gun toters to my district supervisor but he hasn’t been able to learn which division. The Cobb elections board is seeking that information.

According to my District Supervisor the gun toters produced ID that said SOS and Capitol Hill Georgia. Capitol Hill Georgia is an unknown.

So we now have evidence that the Capitol Hill Police may be coordinating with the GA SoS to intimidate voters in Georgia inside the polling stations.

General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, likened Donald Trump’s effort to hold on to power after the 2020 election to Adolf Hitler, saying the president was preaching ‘the gospel of the Führer’ with his lies about the election being stolen, according to a new book by two Washington Post reporters,” New York Magazine reports.

“As chronicled in I Alone Can Fix It, by Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker, the Pentagon’s top general said shortly before the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol that Trump had led the country to the brink of its own ‘Reichstag moment,’ viewing him as a potential threat to American democracy.”

Washington Post: “Milley described ‘a stomach-churning’ feeling as he listened to Trump’s untrue complaints of election fraud, drawing a comparison to the 1933 attack on Germany’s parliament building that Hitler used as a pretext to establish a Nazi dictatorship.”

CNN reports Milley “was so shaken” that Trump and his allies “might attempt a coup or take other dangerous or illegal measures after the November election that Milley and other top officials informally planned for different ways to stop Trump.”

“FOR THE WRATH OF GOD IS REVEALED FROM HEAVEN AGAINST ALL UNGODLINESS AND UNRIGHTEOUSNESS OF MEN, WHO BY THEIR UNRIGHTEOUSNESS SUPPRESS THE TRUTH.” The aptly named Alex Jones news site Infowars says it all. We are in a fierce battle for whose ideas the public will be able to access and how much exposure pages/posters are able to garner on the major channels for the dissemination of information. Those who kneel to doctrines of demons appear to maintain the upper hand temporarily in the infowars via the overt collusion, coordination and conspiracy between the Democrat Party government, our foreign adversaries, big tech etc. in denying certain posters (whose views they oppose) the expression of their 1st amendment protected speech outside their 230 protection, which only provides them protection if they remove content equally. Rest assured, they are playing the eternal losing hand. All of human history will be re-litigated and fully adjudicated right down to every idle thought, word and deed on the judgment seat of God, Jesus the Christ, at which time the fascist, neo-Nazi/Marxist, Antichrist supremacist Democrats and all other with the mark/666 of the beast/Antichrist, including all the combined efforts of the demonic forces will prove woefully impotent to censor the evidence of their unrepentant sins.

He's a snitch for the President and Pelosi

Hang him up in the Senate floor

An Idaho man photographed hanging from the Senate balcony and sitting in the presiding officer’s chair in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot pleaded guilty Wednesday to felony obstruction of Congress, admitting to joining a group who came to Washington armed with firearms, knives and body armor to support President Donald Trump.
Josiah B. Colt, 34, became the latest defendant to agree to cooperate in the breach investigation, seeking to pare down a possible recommended five-year prison sentence.
Though Colt is not accused of being part of a larger militia-like group, he admitted in plea papers to joining at least two men from Nevada and Tennessee who arranged travel, raised funds, bought paramilitary gear and recorded themselves before breaking in to the building and rushing to the Senate just evacuated by lawmakers.
“My fellow patriot Josiah Colt sleeping ready for the boogaloo Jan 6,” one of the others, alleged QAnon follower Ronald Sandlin, posted on Facebook on Jan. 4, according to plea papers. The post included a picture of Colt in a bed holding a handgun, and used a term taken up by fringe groups referring to civil war, Colt acknowledged in plea papers.
In a group video recorded before the riot, Sandlin “urge[d] other patriots” watching to “take the Capitol” and said “there is going to be violence,” according to plea papers.
“We are going to be there [the Capitol] back by one o’clock when it is action time it is game time,” Sandlin added in plea documents. That hour, prosecutors said, was the time Congress convened to confirm the 2020 presidential election and the moment members of the pro-Trump mob began confronting police and charging barricades outside the building.
[In sentencing regretful Capitol protester, federal judge rebukes Republicans]
In a plea hearing, U.S. District Judge Thomas F. Hogan of Washington read from Colt’s signed statement of facts and plea deal in which prosecutors agreed to drop three misdemeanor charges in exchange for his full cooperation.
“You not only got into the Senate gallery, but you sat in the presiding officer’s chair, which you mistakenly thought was Speaker [Nancy] Pelosi’s chair, is that an accurate summary?” Hogan said.
Colt said yes. But he added that his pose in the photo was “kind of a joke.” He also said he did not know the meaning of “boogaloo” at that time, and that, “taken out of context, it looks worse that it is.”
Hogan did not set a sentencing date, but directed Colt to return to court on Oct. 18 after cooperating with prosecutors.
In plea papers, Colt admitted to discussing plans in a video before the riot with Sandlin, of Memphis, and Nate DeGrave, of Las Vegas.
Both men have since been charged and held pending trial. DeGrave, 31 at the time of his arrest, has pleaded not guilty to a nine-count indictment including obstruction of an official proceeding, civil disorder and impeding police.

'They're not going to f**king succeed': Top generals feared Trump would attempt a coup after election, according to new book
By Jamie Gangel, Jeremy Herb, Marshall Cohen and Elizabeth Stuart, CNN
Jul 14, 2021
Washington (CNN) - The top US military officer, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Mark Milley, was so shaken that then-President Donald Trump and his allies might attempt a coup or take other dangerous or illegal measures after the November election that Milley and other top officials informally planned for different ways to stop Trump, according to excerpts of an upcoming book obtained by CNN.
The book, from Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post reporters Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker, describes how Milley and the other Joint Chiefs discussed a plan to resign, one-by-one, rather than carry out orders from Trump that they considered to be illegal, dangerous or ill-advised.
"It was a kind of Saturday Night Massacre in reverse," Leonnig and Rucker write.
The book, "I Alone Can Fix It," scheduled to be released next Tuesday, chronicles Trump's final year as president, with a behind-the-scenes look at how senior administration officials and Trump's inner circle navigated his increasingly unhinged behavior after losing the 2020 election. The authors interviewed Trump for more than two hours.
The book recounts how for the first time in modern US history the nation's top military officer, whose role is to advise the president, was preparing for a showdown with the commander in chief because he feared a coup attempt after Trump lost the November election.
The authors explain Milley's growing concerns that personnel moves that put Trump acolytes in positions of power at the Pentagon after the November 2020 election, including the firing of Defense Secretary Mark Esper and the resignation of Attorney General William Barr, were the sign of something sinister to come.
Milley spoke to friends, lawmakers and colleagues about the threat of a coup, and the Joint Chiefs chairman felt he had to be "on guard" for what might come.
"They may try, but they're not going to f**king succeed," Milley told his deputies, according to the authors. "You can't do this without the military. You can't do this without the CIA and the FBI. We're the guys with the guns."
In the days leading up to January 6, Leonnig and Rucker write, Milley was worried about Trump's call to action. "Milley told his staff that he believed Trump was stoking unrest, possibly in hopes of an excuse to invoke the Insurrection Act and call out the military."
Milley viewed Trump as "the classic authoritarian leader with nothing to lose," the authors write, and he saw parallels between Adolf Hitler's rhetoric as a victim and savior and Trump's false claims of election fraud.
"This is a Reichstag moment," Milley told aides, according to the book. "The gospel of the Führer."
Ahead of a November pro-Trump "Million MAGA March" to protest the election results, Milley told aides he feared it "could be the modern American equivalent of 'brownshirts in the streets,'" referring to the pro-Nazi militia that fueled Hitler's rise to power.
'This is all real, man'

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Rucker and Leonnig interviewed more than 140 sources for the book, though most were given anonymity to speak candidly to reconstruct events and dialogue. Milley is quoted extensively and comes off in a positive light as someone who tried to keep democracy alive because he believed it was on the brink of collapse after receiving a warning one week after the election from an old friend.
"What they are trying to do here is overturn the government," said the friend, who is not named, according to the authors. "This is all real, man. You are one of the few guys who are standing between us and some really bad stuff."
Milley's reputation took a major hit in June 2020, when he joined Trump during his controversial photo-op at St. John's Church, after federal forces violently dispersed a peaceful crowd of social justice protesters at Lafayette Square outside the White House. To make matters worse, Milley wore camouflage military fatigues throughout the incident. He later apologized, saying, "I should not have been there."
But behind the scenes, the book says Milley was on the frontlines of trying to protect the country, including an episode where he tried to stop Trump from firing FBI Director Chris Wray and CIA Director Gina Haspel.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

'Crazy,' 'dangerous,' 'maniac'

The book reveals Pelosi's private conversations with Milley during this tenuous period. When Trump fired Esper in November, Pelosi was one of several lawmakers who called Milley. "We are all trusting you," she said. "Remember your oath."

After the January 6 insurrection, Pelosi told the general she was deeply concerned that a "crazy," "dangerous" and "maniac" Trump might use nuclear weapons during his final days in office.

"Ma'am, I guarantee you these processes are very good," Milley reassured her. "There's not going to be an accidental firing of nuclear weapons."

"How can you guarantee me?" Pelosi asked.

"Ma'am, there's a process," he said. "We will only follow legal orders. We'll only do things that are legal, ethical, and moral."

A week after the insurrection, Pelosi led House Democrats' second impeachment of Trump for inciting the insurrection. In an interview with the authors, Pelosi said she fears another president could try to pick up where Trump left off.

"We might get somebody of his ilk who's sane, and that would really be dangerous, because it could be somebody who's smart, who's strategic, and the rest," Pelosi said. "This is a slob. He doesn't believe in science. He doesn't believe in governance. He's a snake-oil salesman. And he's shrewd. Give him credit for his shrewdness."

'That b*tch'

The book quotes Trump, who had a strained relationship with Merkel, as telling his advisers during an Oval Office meeting about NATO and the US relationship with Germany, "That b*tch Merkel."

"'I know the f**king krauts,' the president added, using a derogatory term for German soldiers from World War I and World War II," Leonnig and Rucker write. "Trump then pointed to a framed photograph of his father, Fred Trump, displayed on the table behind the Resolute Desk and said, 'I was raised by the biggest kraut of them all.'"

Trump, through a spokesman, denied to the authors making these comments.

'No one has a bigger smile'

After January 6, Milley participated in a drill with military and law enforcement leaders to prepare for the January 20 inauguration of President Joe Biden. Washington was on lockdown over fears that far-right groups like the Proud Boys might try to violently disrupt the transfer of power.

Milley told a group of senior leaders, "Here's the deal, guys: These guys are Nazis, they're boogaloo boys, they're Proud Boys. These are the same people we fought in World War II. We're going to put a ring of steel around this city and the Nazis aren't getting in."

Trump did not attend the inauguration, in a notable break with tradition, and the event went off without incident.

As the inauguration ceremony ended, Kamala Harris, who had just been sworn in as vice president, paused to thank Milley. "We all know what you and some others did," she said, according to the authors. "Thank you."

The book ends with Milley describing his relief that there had not been a coup, thinking to himself, "Thank God Almighty, we landed the ship safely."

Milley expressed his relief in the moments after Biden was sworn in, speaking to the Obamas sitting on the inauguration stage. Michelle Obama asked Milley how he was feeling.

"No one has a bigger smile today than I do," Milley said, according to Leonnig and Rucker. "You can't see it under my mask, but I do."

Opinion: Two voices of resistance to the critical race theory backlash in Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY — This week at the Oklahoma State Department of Education building, I was schooled in how the stealthy, well-orchestrated movement against teaching honestly about America’s racist history operates. It is fast and furious and determined to steamroll over truth in education.
But Monday morning, one Black woman and a Black high school student tried to hold the line. Though they were on the losing side of that steamroll — this is Oklahoma, after all — their courage and resistance in the face of white supremacy deserve to be celebrated.
The occasion was consideration of item 8(b) on the Oklahoma Board of Education’s meeting agenda: emergency rules for implementing a bill passed in May by the Republican-controlled state legislature limiting what students in the state can be taught on race and gender. Notice of the item was publicly posted only last Friday, giving educators and advocates next to no time to organize a response. The actual rules, too, were made available just minutes before the meeting. They included chillingly harsh penalties, such as teacher suspensions and district defunding, for instruction that makes any individual feel “discomfort, guilt, anguish or any other form of psychological distress on account of his or her race or sex.”

Carlisha Williams Bradley arrived knowing she would cast one of the most consequential votes of her professional life. The only Black member of the board, she wondered whether she would be removed from her position for
pushing back. But the education advocate and former executive director of Tulsa Legacy Charter School spoke truth: that the right-wing’s current bête noire, “critical race theory” — which the legislature claimed to be responding to — means merely the examination of laws and legislation that uphold racism and oppression. Oklahoma’s new education law and harsh punishment, she said, would serve only to generate fear in teaching an accurate history of the United States.

A new economic theory on par with Rogers "higher wages " are NOT inflationary.

Democrats float this tied in the punch bowl.

"On Wednesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Situation Room,” Senate Budget Committee Chairman Bernie Sanders (I-VT) argued that the $3.5 trillion spending bill won’t add to inflation issues because it will be paid for “significantly by higher taxes on the wealthy and large corporations.”

More taxes reduce inflation, really?

If my federal tax dollars doesn't provide for the common defense and/or promote the general welfare then it's wasted.
