BIDENOMICS Suck

"Prices surged in the second quarter of 2021 by 40 percent"

Remember that many coal fired plant generation was switched to this fuel for heating and electric power generation.

Those cost will be passed thru to the poor and middle income.

California has 200 natural gas electric power generation plants.

I love a success story

Cognitive dissonance has made it easier for people like Trump who wants the Republican party to become an authoritarian government, lead by the white Anglo Saxons who for the most part, founded the greatest and longest lasting democracy in history.

The Founding Fathers feared people like him. So they granted the people to choose their leaders and stop the steal by people like Trump.

The current Republican party is afraid of the people.

As we spoke about yesterday...

Roger rejects the notion that our society should be based on neutrality, objectivity, color-blindness, and meritocracy. That all men, women, or whatever who choose to identify with are created equal and all should have the same rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Roger honestly believes that there are different rules for different people.

That Antifa attacking federal agents protecting a federal building in Portland, or Seattle Antifa thugs taking over a Police station in the Capital Hill area are acceptable actions.

Federal buildings are fine for liberal rioters to attack.

Liberal rioters can literally take over a police stations and good old Roger will stick his head in the sand and demand that this is not an insurrection. As if taking over a police station is not a revolt against authority or established Government entity.

So he ignores the fact that Antifa attacked and damaged over 150 Federal buildings, sort of suggesting that it just didn't happen.

Because at the end of the day, he rejects the ideals of the entire American constitution, the entire idea of freedom of expression and thought, and absolutely rejects the notion that everyone is created equal and should be treated as such.

In Georgia, both voting rights groups and the Justice Department are challenging Republicans’ effort to make voting more arduous. The Justice Department summarized its challenge in a recent statement:

The United States’ complaint challenges several provisions of [Georgia’s voting law], including a provision banning government entities from distributing unsolicited absentee ballot applications; the imposition of costly and onerous fines on civic organizations, churches and advocacy groups that distribute follow-up absentee ballot applications; the shortening of the deadline to request absentee ballots to 11 days before Election Day; the requirement that voters who do not have identification issued by the Georgia Department of Driver Services photocopy another form of identification in order to request an absentee ballot without allowing for use of the last four digits of a social security number for such applications; significant limitations on counties’ use of absentee ballot drop boxes; the prohibition on efforts by churches and civic groups to provide food or water to persons waiting in long lines to vote; and the prohibition on counting out-of-precinct provisional ballots cast before 5 p.m. on Election Day.

None of these policies have much to do with election security (or fraud, which we know was virtually nonexistent in 2020).
They have everything to do with making democracy as arduous as possible for those with the fewest resources. They seek to devise as many hoops as possible, hoping certain groups of voters will lack the wherewithal to jump through them.

The Cuban people are bravely asserting fundamental and universal rights. Those rights, including the right of peaceful protest and the right to freely determine their own future, must be respected. CH falsely accuses Roger and me of thinking that "Federal buildings are fine for liberal rioters to attack."
We do NOT think that, but we are especially certain that violent attempts by anyone to delegitimize the results of a well regulated, states-adminstered election are especially dangerous to our entire democratic system of government of, by, and for the PEOPLE.

Democrats face an uphill battle in 2022, as the president’s party almost always loses more than a few House seats in a midterm election and the Democratic margin in the House is a scant five seats. And control of the Senate is on a knife’s edge as well. If Democrats are to make history and keep their congressional majorities, their ranks cannot be demoralized. It’s time for the Biden administration to talk straight to the Democratic base when he speaks in Philadelphia tomorrow.

We need to vote.

Some leftists were quick to denounce the scale of the protests, as if the act of protesting a communist government (and carrying the American flag) doesn’t often put one’s life and family in jeopardy. Cuba holds an undetermined number of political prisoners despite its communist dictator’s claims that it doesn’t.

The New York Times’ social media clearly did not enjoy the sight of Cubans demanding their freedom. It framed a protest for freedom as “anti-government.”

Thousands of Cubans took to the streets across the country on Sunday in an unusual protest in which civilians shouted slogans against the Communist government, such as “We want freedom” and “We are no longer afraid.”

The demonstrations came at a time when Cuba faces the worst economic crisis since the fall of the Soviet Union, an increase in repression against political opponents and a strained health system during a critical stage of the pandemic. Health authorities reported almost 7,000 new cases and 47 deaths — a record for infections and deaths on the Caribbean island of just over 11 million people.

TUCKER CARLSON’S MANUFACTURED AMERICA

The Fox host has a new daytime show, and he’s using it to poison the meaning of patriotism.

By Megan Garber

6:00 AM ET

SHARE

First comes the piece of timber. Then the strip of leather. Then the fence, the mountain, the trees, the river. The pictures whirl, like icons in a Western-themed slot machine, until they land on their final image: the smiling face of Tucker Carlson.

This spring, Carlson began hosting a new show on Fox Nation, the network’s digital streaming service. Tucker Carlson Today features interviews, one-on-one and in-depth, with Carlson’s preferred guests—skeptics of multiculturalism, skeptics of science, skeptics of “the system” as it currently operates. The show is pretty much what you’d expect it to be, save for one thing: It takes place in a Foxified version of Frontierland.

It begins, episode after episode, with that reel of images. And Carlson hosts it from a gaudy facsimile of a log cabin. The set is constructed almost entirely of wood, or a wood-like substance. Just behind Carlson’s chair is a backlit American flag. The space is otherwise spare: a shelf with a display of tattered books, a sepia-toned globe, a rug, a large desk (made of thick glass, the set’s one concession to cable). A screen mounted on the wall sometimes serves as a portal for the guests who do not come to Carlson’s cabin in person. Its default image, however, offers a window into the cabin’s imagined environs: a farmhouse and a field, overlaid with the words—rendered in lowercase, because all things are casual in the daytime—tucker carlson today.

Log cabins, those mainstays of American iconography, typically suggest hardiness, homeyness, humility.

You completely go off the deep end and pretend that there was never any reason for you to believe differently!

I don't have a hard time reconciling my beliefs with those in the conservative mainstream because unlike Roger, I don't need to hold the same views.

C.H. Truth said...

When, for instance... someone is able to completely "discount" something that is cognitive dissonance. The idea of accepting things objectively is a sign that you do not suffer from cognitive dissonende.

the meme in this post is a testimony to this.

It is entirely factual in basis, yet "rejected" by Roger, not because he can argue the points (the Reverend was upset with the clarifier that "all" republicans denounce the capital riots, but that is a distinction without a real difference)... but because the actual facts differ from his point of view.

Did the BLM protests and violence last months, caused damage to 150 federal buildings, destroyed hundreds of small businesses, and result in 23 dead people?

Of course..

Is this acknowledged by Roger?

Nope...

Why not?

Because those facts do not reconcile with his "belief" that a single day of rioting (actually just a few hours of rioting) that caused almost no real damage and had only one resulting death by shooting (to a protester) was much worse.

Yet, he believes that taking "all facts" into account is actually cognitive dissonance. A belief, that actually on it's own is just more cognitive dissonance.

The belief that the Capital riots were the worst thing since the Holocaust is simply that. A belief. It is not backed up by any actual factual evidende.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Scott the Capital riots were the worst thing since the British invasion captured the Capitol building and the White House.

Lyrics

Say, can you see
By the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight's last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars
Through the perilous fight
O'er the ramparts we watched,
Were so gallantly, yeah, streaming?

And the rockets' red glare
The bombs bursting in air
Gave proof through the night
That our flag was still there

O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave

When the British Empire tried to get the United States back into the empire.

The racially motivated men and women invaded the Capitol building in order to overthrow the Constitution.

Fox News, at this point, is a fantasy factory, churning out historical mythologies in real time. Cancel culture gives way to woke culture gives way to critical race theory, the terms denuded of their true meanings and summoned as metonyms for people Fox does not include in its vision of “real America.” The pilot episode of Tucker Carlson Today featured Douglas Murray, an editor at The Spectator in the United Kingdom and a critic of identity politics as Fox defines it. He claimed that the path to success in today’s America is “to show that you are an oppressed minority.” He cast aspersions on “race hucksters and oppression-mongers” and proceeded to offer the kind of insight that can get one booked on the inaugural episode of a Fox News talk show: “The American people are proud. They have a lot to be proud of.”

America deployed as an easy branding exercise is not new. What is new, though, is the insistent ahistoricism of this version of America. Also new—and given the way propaganda has worked in the 20th century, this should serve as a dire warning—is the notion that the facts of the past should be sources only of national pride. Many conservatives, the historian Matt Karp recently argued, are abandoning the old rhetoric of the Lost Cause in favor of a more flexible form of nostalgia. “People on the right seem to be sort of sacrificing the Confederacy, to some extent, because it doesn’t do the work they want it to do,” Karp told Slate’s Rebecca Onion. “What does work is laying claim to the nation at the heart of the idea of America. Not in the old-school ‘the founders were geniuses and set aside universal freedom from everyone’ Lynne Cheney kind of a way, but in a new school way that just says, ‘America, fuck yes!’”

Sleepy Joe Biden said...

Over the weekend, I dispatched a high-level, expert delegation to assess the situation and to determine where the United States can offer our support.

And finally, as a close neighbor and friend of the people of both Cuba and Haiti, the United States stands ready to continue to provide assistance, and I’ll have more for you as we move on.

But the purpose of the meeting today is we’ve convened a group of law enforcement and other community leaders, including mayors of the — of our cities, one, to thank them for their service because we owe them big time; second, to hear directly from each of them about reducing violent crime and, particularly, gun violence in our communities.

Last month, I met with a similar group to unveil my comprehensive strategy to do just that.  And it’s been — it’s been an — you know, I guess — I look at the Attorney General — we’ve been this a lo- — at this a long time.  A long time.  It seems like most of my career I’ve been dealing with this issue.

While there’s no “one-size-fit-all” approach, we know there are some things that work, and the first of those that work is stemming the flow of firearms used to commit violent crimes.  And we’ve talked — you and I have talked about this, Mayor, before.

MAYOR BOWSER:  Mm-hmm.  Absolutely.

THE PRESIDENT:  And it includes cracking down on holding rogue gun dealers accountable for violating the federal law.  It includes the Justice Department creating five new strike forces to crack down on illegal gun trafficking (inaudible) supplying weapons to cities of New York — from New York to the Bay Area.

Secondly, it’s supporting local law enforcement with the federal support they need.  Our strategy provides including funding for law enforcement through the American Rescue Plan for states, cities, and to be able to hire police and pay them overtime in order to advance community policing.

Third, our plan invests in community violence and intervention.  We — what we want to do is when we — we know we utilize trusted community members and encourage more community policing, we can intervene before the violence erupts — at least that’s what, I think, consensus and our experience.  And community violence intervention programs have shown to reduce crime in some cities by up to 60 percent.

Fourthly, our strategy to fund the other vital services, like mental health and substance abuse disorder programs, job training, and summer job programs.  And this is going to help prevent crime and support young people to pick up a paycheck instead of a pistol.

And fifth, our strategy helps formerly incarcerated people successfully reenter society with housing, jobs, and training, and other support that, up to now, have been denied to them.  Somebody gets — gets out of jail right now, after serving their time, they get a bus ticket and 25 bucks, and they end up under the same bridge they left.  And we know this will help.

This will make us all safer.  The American Rescue Plan funds programs to help get job training, apprenticeships, and work experience so they can gain stability and security and a chance for a better life.

There’s a lot more to my strategy, but at — that’s at the core.  It’s about coordinating at a federal, state, and local level.  That’s what, ultimately, we’re going to talk about today.

We recognize that we have to come together to fulfill the first responsibility of a democracy and to keep each other safe.  And that’s what the American people are looking for when it comes to reducing violent crime and gun violence.

And I think this group is illustrative of — of what we need to get put together, and I want to thank them for being here.  And I’m going to look forward to hearing from them because I’m going to be asking them what they think we should be doing on the federal level.
