The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to issue new guidelines Tuesday that recommend indoor mask mandates for fully vaccinated people in areas experiencing spikes in COVID-19 cases, a federal official said.
The new guidance is expected to be announced by the agency later Tuesday, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss details of the new policy.
Meanwhile, a health official told CNN the agency will also recommend K-12 school faculty and students wear a mask when they return to class, regardless of vaccination status. However, it is unclear if this will be recommended nationwide or just in coronavirus hotspots.
So not sure how you can tell people who became fully vaccinated to start wearing their masks again, without implying that the vaccines did not actually make you safe from the virus. Actually the implication is there whether that was the intention or not.
Now, as more and more people become skeptical of the current vaccine and worried that nobody seems to be working on any sort of new vaccine or booster for the Delta variant, are the Biden Administration, Democrats, and the media still going to try to place blame for these question on the GOP?

Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) and Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), will hold a news conference outside the Justice Department on Tuesday to complain about the treatment of alleged rioters arrested for their role in the Jan. 6 attack. Prosecutors say Samuel Lazar, a 35-year-old Pennsylvania man allegedly seen here shouting through a bullhorn, assaulted police with chemical spray.
During the debut hearing of a hearing to investigate the Jan. 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol, police officers who protected Congress that day offered brutal testimony about being besieged by what the officers described as a band of terrorists.
In the middle of those accounts on Tuesday, federal prosecutors announced new charges against one of the more than 165 accused of assaulting or resisting law enforcement on that day.
Samuel Lazar, a 35-year-old Pennsylvania man dubbed #FacePaintBlowhard by online sleuths commenting on his paramilitary gear, allegedly doused officers with chemical spray on Jan. 6th.
“They maced us, those tyrannical pieces of shit, and we maced them right the fuck back and now they’re taking the building,” Lazar is quoted saying in a video cited in an FBI affidavit.
Seen clad in a camouflaged tactical vest, black hooded sweatshirt, and blue jeans, Lazar had a patch over his chest with the words: “Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle,” according to the complaint.

Lazar allegedly referred to that patch in his video rant.
“They attacked the people. We have a right to defend ourselves. Fuck the tyrants. There’s a time for peace and there’s a time for war,” Lazar said while pointing at the patch, according to an FBI affidavit.
As first noted by the HuffPost, Lazar was photographed “at least half a dozen times” with far-right Pennsylvania state Sen. Doug Mastriano (R), who has consistently supported former President Donald Trump’s efforts to discredit and overturn Joe Biden’s presidential victory. Mastriano has backed a so-called “audit” of the election results, despite the failure of every lawsuit challenging comfortable 80,555-vote victory in the Keystone State.
In late November, Mastriano tried to replace the electors Biden won through the ballot via legislative fiat, a failed effort widely denounced as an “anti-democratic” gambit.
HuffPost reported that Lazar had been on the FBI’s wanted list when he posed with Mastriano in May, during a GOP event headlined by Trump’s former lawyer Rudy Giuliani.

159 Dead, 593 Hospitalized in Illinois Breakthrough COVID Cases
More than 150 people have died and nearly 600 have been hospitalized in Illinois due to COVID-19 in "breakthrough" cases after they were fully vaccinated, according to state health officials.
According to data updated Wednesday by the Illinois Department of Public Health, 159 people in Illinois have died due to COVID-19 or complications after being fully vaccinated. That figure equates to 2.3% of COVID-19 deaths in the state since Jan. 1, officials said.
At least 593 fully vaccinated people have been hospitalized in Illinois, IDPH said. The state only reports breakthrough infections among those who have been hospitalized or died, following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, IDPH said.
Those totals mean eight more fully vaccinated individuals have died and 30 more have been hospitalized in the past week since the state last updated its reported numbers.
The state does not publicize the number of residents who tested positive after being fully vaccinated but did not die or require hospitalization in order to "help maximize the quality of the data collected on cases of greatest clinical and public health importance," IDPH's website reads.

D.C. Metropolitan Police Officer Daniel Hodges detailed the attacks on him and his fellow officers on Jan. 6 as they defended the Capitol, calling the perpetrators “terrorists.”
“The terrorists alternated between attempting to break our defense or shouting at or attempting to convert us,” he said. “Men alleging to be veterans told us how they had fought for this country and were fighting for it again. One man tried to start a chant of ‘Four more years.’ Another shouted, ‘Do not touch us, we’re not Black Lives Matter,’ as if political affiliation is how we determine when to use force.”
Hodges was testifying at the first hearing of a special House committee investigating the events of Jan. 6, when hundreds of supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol building in an attempt to stop the formal counting of electoral votes.
“A man attempted to rip the baton from my hands, and we wrestled for control. I retained my weapon, and after I pushed him back he yelled at me, ‘You’re on the wrong team,’” Hodges said. “One man tried and failed to build a rapport with me, shouting, ‘Are you my brother?’ Another takes a different tack, shouting, ‘You will die on your knees.’”
“Even during this intense contest of wills, they tried to convert us to their cult,” he said. “One man shouted, ‘We all just want to make our voices heard, and I think you feel the same. I really think you feel the same,’ all while another man tries to batter us with a stolen shield.”
Hodges said that he was struck in the head and chest and that his radio was stolen — leaving him in the dark as to whether reinforcements would be arriving — in addition to being sprayed with tear gas, Mace and wasp spray. He added that those assaulting the Capitol used the officers’ batons and shields against them, and that one man used Hodges’s own gas mask to slam his head into a metal doorframe before ripping it off his head. Another man then pulled Hodges’s baton away and bashed him in the face, rupturing his lip. Hodges said he was concerned about being dragged into the crowd and lynched.

“There was plenty of booing,” Hodges said of the moments before things escalated. “A woman called us stormtroopers. Another woman who was part of the mob of terrorists laying siege to the Capitol of the United States shouted, ‘Traitors.’”
Five people died as a result of the riot, and dozens were injured. Trump was impeached for his role in inciting the incident but was not convicted in the then-Republican-controlled Senate. An attempt at a bipartisan commission was opposed by House GOP leadership and failed in the Senate after Republicans rejected it earlier this year.

Here are five main takeaways from the day’s testimony.

The officers want Trump held accountable.
At the end of the hearing, after a grueling three and a half hours of testimony in which the officers discussed how they’re still reeling from the events of the day, all four agreed: former president Trump and those who stoked the myth that the election was stolen must be investigated for their role in the attack.
It was an almost cathartic moment that came after the officers had repeatedly watched videos of themselves being beaten and recounted in detail how they and their colleagues were attacked with weapons that included a cattle prod. The way for them and the country to heal, they said, would be through accountability.
“That is what I am looking for — an investigation of those actions and activities that may have resulted in the events of January 6,” said Michael Fanone of the Metropolitan Police Department. He specified that he wanted Congress to probe “whether there was collaboration between those members, their staff, and these terrorists.”
MPD officer Daniel Hodges, who is famous in part for being videotaped having his mask yanked off during the insurrection and for having his neck squeezed in a door, echoed that sentiment.
“As patrol officers we can only deal with crimes in the street,” Hodges said. The members of Congress, he said, are empowered to address “the crimes that occurred above us, if anyone in power had a role in this, or aided and abetted, prevented the investigation of this terrorist attack.”
Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn likened it to the investigation of an ordered killing. Police don’t just arrest the hitman — they also arrest the person who ordered the hit.
“I want you to get to the bottom of that,” he said.

The officers were bitter that GOPers in Congress betrayed them.
Throughout the hearing, the officers suggested that one of the hardest parts of coping with the aftermath of Jan. 6 was seeing members of Congress that they defended argue that the attack wasn’t so bad, or say that it was perpetrated by someone other than Trump fans — Antifa, or left-wing activists.
Fanone in particular emphasized throughout his testimony that it was members of Congress that he was defending.
“The indifference shown to my colleagues and I is disgraceful,” he said during his opening remarks, slamming his palm down on the table as he briefly lost composure. “Nothing, truly nothing, has prepared me to address those elected members of our government who continue to deny the events of that day — and, in doing so, betray their oath of office.”
Hodges, who called the insurrectionists “terrorists,” was asked by Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) about comments from Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) that the mob that day were “tourists” on a visit.
“If that’s what American tourists are like I can see why foreign countries don’t like American tourists,” Hodges joked, before reading the statutory definition of domestic terrorism to the panel.
Fanone noted that no members of Congress experienced what he and other officers experienced that day, and emphasized that the tunnel in which one of the worst battles was fought led straight to congressional offices.
“It is not the sort of space where anyone would want to be pulled into hand-to-hand combat with an angry mob, although the narrowness of the hallway provided what was probably the only chance of holding back that crowd from entering your personal offices and the House and Senate Chambers,” he said.
Questions also included Trump’s own efforts to diminish and recast the event.
At one point, officer Aquilino Gonell of the Capitol Police, when asked by Rep. Cheney about Trump’s remarks that it was a “loving crowd,” said: “if that was hugs and kisses, then we should all go to his house and do the same thing to him.”
Gonell later apologized for the remark.

The attack’s racial element came to the fore.
Members of Congress on the panel also brought to light one of the most pernicious but also undernoticed elements of the attack: its racial and racist dynamics.
This has become more explicit in recent weeks. Trump, who appears to believe that the officer who killed Ashli Babbitt is a black man, called for him to be “strung up and hung.” Other right-wing politicians have lined up around racial dog whistles about her killing.
But Officer Dunn said explicitly that he and other black officers were called racial epithets during the attack. He recalled an exchange in which rioters told him that nobody voted for Biden, to which he replied that he had.
“One woman in a pink “MAGA” shirt yelled, ‘You hear that, guys, this nigger voted for Joe Biden!’” Dunn told the panel. “Then the crowd, perhaps around twenty people, joined in, screaming ‘Boo! Fucking Nigger!’”
Gonell, an immigrant from the Dominican Republic, said that rioters told him he “wasn’t even American.”
“They were yelling and saying all these things to me. When I heard that, I wasn’t even thinking about immigration stuff,” he added. Both Dunn and Gonell said that they didn’t fully process the interactions until afterward.

Officers didn’t use their firearms because they thought they would lose in a gunfight.
Much of the hearing revolved around the details of the fighting that day.
Gonell said that he suspected that many of the insurrectionists had firearms with them, in part because he had been trained to recognize the “imprint” that a concealed handgun can make on someone’s clothing.
Both Fanone and Hodges said that they declined to use firearms during the most violent portions of the battle out of a fear that it would lead to both their deaths and those of their fellow officers, and would eventually allow the mob of insurrectionists to enter Congress unimpeded.
“If that turned into a firefight, we would have lost,” Hodges said. “This was a fight we couldn’t afford to lose.”
Fanone repeatedly described being dragged into the crowd and beaten unconscious.
“During the assault, I thought about using my firearm on my attackers. But I knew that if I did that, I would quickly be overwhelmed,” Fanone said. “And that, in their minds, it would provide them with the justification for killing me.”

The bombs succeeded in scrambling the response.
One of the enduring mysteries of the day — as of yet unsolved by federal law enforcement — has been the question of two homemade pipe bombs planted at the RNC and DNC.
They were primed to go off when the attack took place, and were discovered as the mob began to storm the Capitol.
That discovery resulted in a crucial diversion of law enforcement resources, and federal investigations have not yet delivered any charges related to the bomb-planting. Hodges noted that the question of the bombs was on his mind all day, with him wondering whether others in the crowd had explosives with them.
But Dunn provided a detailed and compelling account of the extent to which the bombs succeeded in confusing and scrambling law enforcement’s initial response.
He told the panel that as the crowd advanced on the Capitol, he heard a call go out over the radio for an active bomb at the RNC.

majority of registered U.S. voters say shutting down businesses and other parts of the country for roughly the past year to slow the spread of COVID-19 "did more harm than good," despite good intentions, according to a new Scott Rasmussen national survey.
Fifty-five percent of the respondents agreed with the statement, while 38% disagreed and 7% said they were not sure.
Seventy-six percent of Republicans and 51% of Independents agreed the lockdowns did more harm than good. However, 57% of Democrats disagreed.
"As on most pandemic related topics, there is a partisan divide," Rasmussen said.
Rasmussen surveyed 1,200 registered voters from July 21-24, using a mixed-mode approach.
During the pandemic, government officials exercised extraordinary power over the lives of individual Americans, the pollster said.
The survey also found 62% of respondents are worried that many government officials will try to continue exercising such power over individual Americans.

GOP leaders are facing mounting internal pressure to discipline a pair of anti-Trump Republicans taking part in the special investigation into the Capitol attack of Jan. 6.
Conservative lawmakers are up in arms that Reps. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) — both appointed to the select committee by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — have taken on the task with relish, using the panel’s first hearing on Tuesday as a televised platform to bash former President Trump for instigating the riot.
Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), the head of the far-right House Freedom Caucus, sought during a closed-door meeting Tuesday to exile both Cheney and Kinzinger from the Republican conference. And other members of the group are piling on, maintaining that the defiant pair have forfeited their rights to membership in the GOP, including their seats on committees.
“I think they've left the Republican Party, based on their actions,” said Rep. Bob Good, a first-term Virginia Republican and member of the Freedom Caucus. “I think that they should be removed from their committees as Republicans. And I support an effort that took place this morning in the conference meeting.”
A second Freedom Caucus member, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), tweeted Tuesday that Cheney and Kinzinger should be banned from private GOP conference meetings “while effectively working for Pelosi,” while a third, Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.), echoed her colleagues’ calls for revenge.
“I personally think that if someone is going to serve on a committee that was not selected by [Republican leaders], then perhaps they should no longer be on their committees or part of the conference,” Lesko told The Hill in a brief interview.
The outcry on the right is creating a headache for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and other GOP leaders, who have eyes on flipping control of the House next year and are scrambling to keep their conference united to advance that goal.
They have few good options when it comes to Cheney, the daughter of a former vice president, and Kinzinger, a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
Kicking the two out of the conference would only highlight the stark Republican divisions when it comes to Trump, the mercurial figure at the center of both the Jan. 6 attack and the select committee’s probe into it.
Yet keeping them in the conference would ensure that the anti-Trump Republicans would continue to associate with the rest of the conference, exacerbating the internal discord with conservatives and distracting from their attacks on Biden administration policies.
Faced with that dilemma on Tuesday, Republican leaders punted, denying Biggs a vote on his expulsion resolution but kicking it to a yet-unnamed committee. The decision essentially rejected the Freedom Caucus’s demand to get tougher on Cheney and Kinzinger.
The move marked a gamble for McCarthy, who has designs on the Speakership if his party takes back the House and will need the support of the Freedom Caucus to realize that goal. Indeed, it was the conservative flank that blocked his ascension to the Speaker’s office in 2015, following the retirement of Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio).
Good, the first-term Virginian, offered one word for the leadership’s strategy: “Disappointing.”
The GOP clash arrived on a somber day on Capitol Hill, where the select committee heard highly emotional testimony from four police officers who said they’ve suffered lasting damage — physical and mental — after defending the Capitol complex from the violent mob on Jan. 6.
McCarthy last week had pulled his nominees from the special panel to protest Pelosi’s decision to reject a pair of ardent Trump defenders, Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Jim Banks (R-Ind.). That strategy was hailed by most of the GOP conference, but it also left Trump defenseless on the special panel. To shift attention away from that probe, GOP leaders are now blaming Pelosi for the violence of Jan. 6.
“Nancy Pelosi bears responsibility as Speaker of the House for the tragedy that occurred on Jan. 6,” said Rep. Elise Stefanik (N.Y.), who ascended to GOP leadership in May after Cheney was knocked out for criticizing Trump.
Asked about Stefanik’s charge, Cheney was fierce.
“If I were saying the things” that Stefanik said, “I’d be deeply ashamed of myself,” Cheney said in an interview with CNN.
It was not the only obstacle McCarthy was forced to navigate in recent days. The Freedom Caucus this week sent a letter urging the GOP leader, by week’s end, to force a floor vote to “vacate the chair” and oust Pelosi as Speaker for vetoing Jordan and Banks. McCarthy responded Monday by forcing a vote on a resolution merely condemning Pelosi for her actions.
Biggs told The Hill that McCarthy’s maneuver didn’t go far enough: “Condemn versus vacate the chair? I’d rather vacate the chair.”
After Jan. 6, Cheney has emerged as Democrats’ favorite Republican, and they gave her a prominent role during and after Tuesday’s hearing. Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), chairman of the Jan. 6 panel, allowed Cheney to make opening remarks immediately after his own, then positioned her in front of the television cameras during a news conference right after the hearing.

I was fighting so desperately to defend.”
But a number of Republicans expressed more sympathy for the attackers. “There are Americans all over this country who are being harassed, who are being targeted by law enforcement!” Gaetz, at the news conference outside the DOJ, said of the insurrectionists.

No real effort to find a pipe bomber who diverted security forces
No effort to explain why additional forces were not deployed
The apparent plot stagers, the FBI, not to fess up with their involvement
and are trying to squeeze political prisoners in solitary confinement with excessive punishments
