Has there ever been any sort government guidance that has flipped and flopped like the response to Covid?

Has there ever been a time when our citizenship has followed so blindly?

Don't wear mask, they don't help. Wear masks because they work. Wear them in indoors, but you don't need them outdoors. Well, why don't you wear them outdoors too. Wear two because one doesn't work. Okay, wear one again, unless you are vaccinated then you don't need one. Wait up folks, I guess you should wear masks even if your vaccinated.

Meanwhile, we are well over six months into the Biden Administration and all they seem to want to do is blame Trump and the GOP for the issues at hand. Which, of course, is that we are going through another surge in Covid cases even after we elected Joe "got a plan to stop Covid in it's tracks" Biden to put an end to it.

What is the master plan besides blaming Trump! Talk everyone into getting vaccinated. Well duh?  Easier said than done folks. Especially after both sides have taken turns demonizing the vaccine. It certainly doesn't help that vaccinated people are still getting the virus, making the skeptics more skeptical and making the advocates have to grasp for more reasoning.

I bet Democrats wish that they hadn't had several Texas Democrats and White House staffers catch Covid while fully vaccinated. Embarrassing as these same people are demanding everyone else get vaccinated to avoid catching the virus.

Meanwhile Florida and California have been coming in at five figures in new cases and California has more active cases right now than they ever have. Texas, Louisiana, and New York are trending not too terribly far behind. We had 56,000 cases yesterday in spite of several states not even reporting numbers.

Now is the time for everyone to panic again. Won't be too much longer and we will be back in full swing of wallowing through the same responses that didn't work last time.

Today as the Dems insist on making this stuff every day’s front page. For starters, stop saying “Reichstag moment.” And when Grandpa Simpson and Kamala “Silent Shadow” Harris tottered into the White House, they became president. Between the two of them they’ll get their four years. Done.

Some 500 protesters taking selfies inside the Capitol building is a tantrum, not a coup. Among other things, a coup must have some path towards success, in this case, preventing Joe Biden from becoming president. The rioters at best might have delayed the largely ceremonial counting of the Electoral College votes until the next day. Done.

Not done. The latest addition to Coup Canon comes from then—and somehow still—Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Mark Milley. Milley was so shaken Trump might attempt a coup or take other illegal measures after the election that he and other top officials planned to stop Trump. Neither Milley nor any of the others actually spell out what Trump might have realistically done in some Calvinball-like way to make said coup happen. Milley’s Strangelovian performance art is based on nothing but the spittle running down his chin. American soldiers have been required to refuse illegal orders at least since Biden wore diapers, so Milley’s histrionics are just that.

What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power.”

Dementia and mask wearing

With so many articles and posts on social media about masks during the pandemic, the great debate carries on: “Do I wear one or not? What about masks or face coverings involving persons living with dementia? Let’s take a closer look at mask wearing during COVID-19 by exploring the 3 different stages of dementia: early, middle, and late.

Early stage

It may be easier to explain to a person with early stage dementia the reasons for wearing a mask. In addition to modelling mask wearing yourself, consider the following pointers to encourage your family member to wear a mask.

Does the person simply forget why it’s needed? Post a sign in a location for them to see such as on the fridge door or front door.Does the mask fit comfortably? Try different styles face coverings or looser fastenings if the mask is too tight. Is the person unhappy with the feel of the fabric? Try some different materials, maybe one made from a familiar garment (check with them first before cutting the fabric).Does the person pull the covering down? Try some distraction or positive statement like how wearing a face covering helps to stop the spread of coronavirus and keep people well.Middle stage

People in the middle stage of dementia often need help with daily tasks. For many family caregivers, this is the stage where they reach out for extra support. If you currently receive or plan to receive home-based services from a provider, infection prevention and control is a joint effort and responsibility. As a caregiver you and your family member are not mandated to wear a mask. However, you can rely on the health care worker to wear a mask when in your home.

Caregivers lack support and respite services during pandemic

Unfortunately, a casualty of COVID has been the cancellation of several support and respite services previously available to family caregivers. With services on hold, many caregivers are on their own to fill these service gaps.  This is really taxing on the caregiver because a person in the middle stage of dementia  may not be able to be left at home alone or unattended.

As a result, caregivers are more likely to bring their family member along with them when out in the community. We know it’s safer for everyone if we all follow the public health guidance on masks/face coverings. Nonetheless, this can be a real challenge and, sometimes impossible, for caregivers to get people living with dementia (especially in middle to later stages) to wear a mask.

Medical exemptions

By-laws which make mask wearing or face coverings mandatory in places such as businesses, public transit and indoor spaces are spreading across the country. Most of these by-laws also have medical exemptions. The City of Minneapolis, for example, has 2 exemptions relevant to someone with a dementia diagnosis: persons with an underlying medical condition which inhibits their ability to wear a Mask or Face Covering; persons who are unable to place or remove a Mask or Face Covering without assistance.

Proof of the medical exemption is not typically required. This means you don’t have to go to the doctor or a health professional to get this medical exemption. At the same time, uncomfortable and tense situations can arise when people see others without a mask on and it is mandatory to wear one.

One simple and effective tool that can assist caregivers are help cards. These are not to be confused with fake exemption cards being used by anti-maskers. Legitimate help cards read as follows-The person I am with has dementia. Your help and understanding are appreciated. Thank you”. These cards can be handy in situations where your loved one is not masked. A card shown to a store attendant, cashier or even to a fellow customer when shopping may avoid questions or comments.

Masks are only part of the COVID-19 prevention strategy

There is lots of attention on mask wearing these days. Other infection prevention practices, like physical distancing and proper hand hygiene continue to be of utmost importance.

The reason why he suffered from dementia.

His new hero is the Governor of Florida.

Florida hospitals are also dealing with the ripple effects of the new surge. Watson said Tallahassee Memorial is pulling back on some elective operations and certain procedures that require overnight stays so it can devote more time to treating people with Covid.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican who is said to be considering a presidential run in 2024, has resisted mask mandates and vaccine requirements.

DeSantis, along with the state Legislature, has curbed local officials’ authority to impose restrictions designed to stop the spread of the virus.

The state’s medical providers recognize that persuading unvaccinated residents to set up appointments for doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines is an immense challenge.

Paul Carl Vélez, the president and chief executive of Borinquen Medical Centers, which runs community health centers in Miami-Dade County, said staff members at Borinquen centers have encountered people across age groups and income levels who do not want to get vaccinated.

“It’s people from all walks of life. They don’t say they’re anti-vaccine, but they don’t want to get the vaccine,” Vélez said. “We’re at a crossroads, so what do we do?”

Lawrence Johnson, one of more than 220 Covid patients at UF Health Jacksonville on Monday, said that he does not drink or smoke and that he tries to keep healthy. But Johnson, 67, who has been hospitalized for 22 days, conceded that he did not get vaccinated because he listened to “foolishness.”

“Every day I get on the phone: ‘Please do not play. Get the vaccination.’ If I wasn’t stupid, I wouldn’t be in this predicament. Don’t listen to foolishness. Go get vaccinated.”

Biden Faces Tough Choice on Fed Pick

“Either path offers speed bumps for the White House. Powell would likely sail to Senate confirmation, giving the Biden administration a significant bipartisan win. Financial markets would likely remain calm, but Biden would likely disappoint some progressive Democrats he needs for other issues.

“A liberal nominee, like Fed Governor Brainard, who hews more closely to Biden’s economic agenda and is far more of a hawk on banking regulations, would likely keep Democratic senators like Elizabeth Warren and Banking Chair Sherrod Brown happy. Yet it would presage a bruising confirmation fight, potentially even a 50-50 vote with Vice President Kamala Harris the tie-breaker.”

How well do face masks protect against coronavirus?
By Mayo Clinic Staff

Can face masks help slow the spread of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19? Yes. Face masks combined with other preventive measures, such as getting vaccinated, frequent hand-washing and physical distancing, can help slow the spread of the virus.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends fabric masks for the general public. People who haven’t been fully vaccinated should continue to wear face masks in indoor public places and outdoors where there is a high risk of COVID-19 transmission, such as crowded events or large gatherings. The CDC says that N95 masks should be reserved for health care providers.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends medical masks for health care workers as well as for anyone who has or may have COVID-19 or who is caring for someone who has or may have COVID-19.

Sweden: Despite Variants, No Lockdowns, No Daily Covid Deaths

Since the Covid pandemic broke out, Sweden has been fought over more than any other part of Europe since Germany in the 30 Years War. In refusing to use an iron fist to control a virus, lockdown advocates claimed it was either committing murder or suicide; choose your favorite metaphor. Relatively few such as me, in three separate articles, claimed the Nordic country was sparing both the economy and something called “liberty” with its light-handed approach. My favorite title (editor chose it): “Media Enraged That More Swedes Aren’t Dying.”

Thus last year we saw such headlines as CNN’s “Deaths Soar In Country That Didn’t Lock Down. Officials Identify Big Reason Why.” Around the same time “Sweden Steadfast In Strategy As Virus Toll Continues Rising,” claimed another source. “Sweden’s Coronavirus Strategy Drives Up Infection Rate,” screamed the BBC. Everyone was playing pile-on. “Sweden Has The Highest Daily Coronavirus Death Rate In The World – And It’s Getting Worse.” That’s from Yahoo Sports. Sports?

Modelers desperately tried to scare Sweden into locking down. One predicted an incredible median of 96,000 deaths, with a maximum of 183,000. At Sweden’s Lund University an academic used the parameters in the now-infamous Neil Ferguson/Imperial College model to warn that it meant 85,000 deaths for Sweden. An Uppsala University team also found the nation paying a terrible price with 40,000 Covid-19 deaths by May 1, 2020 and almost 100,000 by June.

Total Swedish Covid deaths at this writing: 14,651.

It’s not that Sweden did nothing – but very little. “From the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Public Health Agency . . . embarked on a de-facto herd immunity approach, allowing community transmission to occur relatively unchecked,” declared a scathing editorial in the leftwing medical journal The Lancet last December. “No mandatory measures were taken to limit crowds on public transport, in shopping malls, or in other crowded places,” it said. “Coronavirus testing, contact tracing, source identification, and reporting, as recommended by WHO, were limited and remain inadequate.” High schools closed temporarily, but grade schools never.

“In our view,” snarled The Lancet, “there is still not sufficient recognition in the national strategy of the importance of pre-symptomatic and asymptomatic transmission, aerosol transmission, and use of face masks.”

Time to revisit Sweden as much of the world starts locking down and masking again regardless of vaccination levels, blaming the Delta variant. And those impudent Swedes are pretty much refusing to die of Covid at all.

Not to say that vaccines haven’t contributed to the current low numbers, but … cases peaked during the first week of January while vaccinations didn’t even begin until the end of that month. Currently Sweden ranks 18th in Europe in vaccines per capita, right in the middle
. Likewise, there are those who say Sweden finally buckled down and imposed serious restrictions. It didn’t (continues)

Daily Covid Briefing
Demand for shots is increasing in less-vaccinated states under siege from the Delta variant.
By Eduardo Medina
July 31, 2021
Vaccinations are rising in U.S. states where lagging demand left entire regions vulnerable to a Delta-driven surge of coronavirus cases. The shift offers a sign of hope, even as the country’s known cases since the start of the pandemic surpassed 35 million on Saturday.

For the third consecutive week, states with the highest number of coronavirus cases also had the highest vaccination rates, Karine Jean-Pierre, the deputy White House press secretary, said on Friday.

In Mississippi, where 44 percent of adults have been fully vaccinated, the seven-day average of people receiving a first dose was 5,203 on July 27, more than triple the average from July 1, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The same pattern is in play for other less-vaccinated states where infections are surging. From July 1 to July 28, Louisiana almost quadrupled its seven-day average of administered first doses. And in Missouri, where the Delta variant spurred an outbreak in early July, the number of first doses administered daily almost doubled over a month.

Still, compared with the rest of the country, these states’ vaccination rates remain low. And their rates of hospitalizations and deaths are higher compared with states with more vaccinations.

Fascists are communists who, rather than doing away with the private sector, allow it to function provided that the government calls the shots. Keep that in mind as you think about Gov. Andrew Cuomo urging businesses that are open to the public to have "vaccinated-only admission." Behind that lies the assumption that all of the business's employees are vaccinated. Businesses in New York understand full well that this is an iron hand in a velvet glove suggestion. After all, Cuomo controls the agencies that issue their business licenses. . .

. . . it's one thing when businesses work with the government to create needed supplies during a crisis, as happened when Donald Trump was able to get an enormous number of ventilators and masks made for hospitals early in the pandemic. It's an entirely different thing when the government conspires with businesses to deprive fellow citizens of access to the amenities of life.. . .

. . . We are no longer in a crisis. We are in a flu season. And the vaccination works much like a flu shot, providing limited protection that lasts for a limited time against one variant of the flu. The difference, of course, is that the flu vaccine doesn't have the potential to make women sterile, damage people's hearts, or create serious immune disorders.

Nevertheless, Cuomo wants New York state businesses to close their doors to anyone who is not vaccinated. CNN's vacuous Harvard graduate, Don Lemon, has suggested that unvaccinated people be barred from all places of business and institutions, including cutting them off from buying groceries. And Vox's Ian Millhiser believes that a 99% tax rate should be imposed against unvaccinated people. This is Jim Crow writ large; it's not hypothetical. It's what Democrats are actively seeking to impose on the American people.

Oh, speaking of Jim Crow, I forgot one more thing: The Democrats' punitive plans will affect the more than 50% (on average) cohort of Blacks and Hispanics who are resistant to the vaccine. Thanks to the infamous Tuskegee Experiment, they are wise to the ways of government-paid Democrats in control of minority's health care.

Daily COVID Deaths in Sweden Hit Zero, as Other Nations Brace for More Lockdowns
Sweden isn't in the news much these days. There's a reason for that.

Sweden, of course, was maligned in 2020 for foregoing a strict lockdown. The Guardian called its approach “a catastrophe” in the making, while CBS News said Sweden had become “an example of how not to handle COVID-19.”

Despite these criticisms, Sweden’s laissez-faire approach to the pandemic continues today. In contrast to its European neighbors, Sweden is welcoming tourists. Businesses and schools are open with almost no restrictions. And as far as masks are concerned, not only is there no mandate in place, Swedish health officials are not even recommending them.

What are the results of Sweden’s much-derided laissez-faire policy? Data show the 7-day rolling average for COVID deaths yesterday was zero (see below). As in nada. And it’s been at zero for about a week now.

Even a year ago, it was clear the hyperbolic claims about “the Swedish catastrophe” were false; just ask Elon Musk (also see: here, here, and here). But a year later the evidence is overwhelming that Sweden got the pandemic mostly right. Sweden’s overall mortality rate in 2020 was lower than most of Europe and its economy suffered far less. Meanwhile, today Sweden is freer and healthier than virtually any other country in Europe.

As much of the world remains gripped in fear and nations devise new restrictions to curtail basic freedoms, Sweden remains a vital and shining reminder that there is a better way.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — The number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida rose to an all-time high of 11,515 patients in one day, according to data the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released Tuesday.

The data is used by the Florida Hospital Association to track admissions and staffing shortages. The figures also show 2,400 of those patients are in ICU beds.

The previous day, the data showed there were 10,389 COVID-hospitalizations in the state.

The new number breaks a previous record for current hospitalizations set more than a year ago before vaccines were available. Last year, Florida hit its previous peak on July 23, with 10,170 hospitalizations.

Hospitals around the state report having to put emergency room visitors in beds in hallways and others document a noticeable drop in the age of patients.

DeSantis's state is running ahead of the national average in vaccinations. They are doing nothing differently right now than anyone else. Only a handful of states are still mandating masks.

Obviously a virus doesn't react to policies regarding school mask mandates when school i not in session or whether or not a vaccine certificate is necessary to do certain things.

If what is happening in Florida is truly because of vaccination rates and mandates, then there would be 28 states (that have lower vaccination rates and no mandates) that would logically be seeing worse results.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women and then retaliated against a former employee who complained publicly about his conduct, according to a bombshell report that will be released Tuesday by state Attorney General Letitia James.

James’ report will also say that Cuomo’s office was riddled with fear and intimidation, and was a hostile work environment for many staffers.

The announcement from James at a press conference Tuesday morning came about two weeks after Cuomo was interviewed by investigators retained by James’ office for the probe. Cuomo was reportedly questioned for 11 hours.

The probe into numerous women’s allegations of sexual harassment by Cuomo began in March, after the state’s executive chamber granted James’ request to investigate.

More than half Sweden’s adult population is now fully vaccinated against Covid-19
photo: Vials of the vaccines from Moderna, Pfizer and AstraZeneca, all of which are highly effective at preventing serious illness from Covid-19.
29 July 2021

Sweden passed a milestone in the fight against Covid-19 on Thursday with more than half of all adults in the country having received both doses of a vaccine against the virus.

As of July 29th, a total of 4,118,142 people have now received both doses (all vaccines being used in Sweden require two) while 6,365,362 have received at least one. That’s 50.3 percent and 77.7 percent of Sweden’s adult population respectively.

In early July, all of Sweden’s 21 healthcare regions, which were responsible for the vaccine rollout, had opened booking to all adults. The doses are usually given with around a six-week interval but the exact interval varies regionally; Stockholm, for example, reduced the minimum time between doses to four weeks this Week.

Although the figures of vaccination rates are calculated as a proportion of the adult population, some regions have already opened booking to children aged between 16 and 18, and all regions will offer vaccines to this age group in the coming months. The use of the Pfizer jab has also been approved for children from the age of 12, but only if there are special conditions such as belonging to a risk group.

As a proportion of the total population, around 40 percent have been fully vaccinated and around 61 percent have received at least one dose. That puts Sweden below the EU average...

This can at least partly be explained by countries’ different vaccine strategies, with some focusing on rolling out first doses to as many people as possible and others aiming for a high rate of full vaccination. Measuring by the proportion of the population to have received at least one dose, Sweden is instead above the EU average.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

So yes he is responsible for many things.

From the New York Times article.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women, including current and former government workers, and retaliated against at least one of the women for making her complaints public, according to a much anticipated report from the New York State attorney general released on Tuesday.

The 165-page report said that Mr. Cuomo, a third-term Democrat, and his aides cultivated a toxic work environment in his office that was rife with fear and intimidation, and helped enable “harassment to occur and created a hostile work environment.”

The findings of the report could fuel support for impeachment proceedings against Mr. Cuomo in the State Legislature, which Democrats overwhelmingly control, lead to additional calls for his resignation and influence public opinion as he considers running for a fourth term. Outside lawyers hired by the Assembly’s judiciary committee are currently looking at not only the sexual harassment claims, but a series of scandals with a common theme: whether or not Mr. Cuomo abused his power while in office.

The investigation was conducted by two outside lawyers hired by Letitia James, the state attorney general: Joon H. Kim, a former top federal prosecutor, and Anne L. Clark, a well-known employment lawyer.

Even before the report’s release on Tuesday, the damage to Mr. Cuomo has been considerable: In a span of a few weeks earlier this year, the allegations and a series of other scandals compounded into the most severe political crisis Mr. Cuomo has confronted in his ten years in office, a steep fall for a governor once hailed a national leader during the coronavirus pandemic.

Scott, he will be held responsible for more deaths than I thought about before..

For Biden, but also for the country, the stakes are very high. Enactment of the President’s economic agenda would address climate change, fill in some big gaps in the social safety net, and strengthen America’s physical and human capital. At roughly two per cent of G.D.P. per year, the sums involved are substantial but eminently affordable. Assuming that they were largely financed by raising levies on corporations and the very wealthy, that would amount to a much-needed rebalancing of the tax system.

As crunch time approaches, many progressives are looking to Biden and the White House to present this case more forcefully. “There is a set of full-throated political arguments that can be made right now, about taking credit for what has already been done and investing in future transformation,” Wong said when I spoke with her again, on Monday. “Now is the time to double down with long-term changes.”

“On Tuesday, the U.S. finally reached President Joe Biden’s goal of having at least 70% of adults receive their first vaccination shot — except that Biden back in May had set the goal for July 4, and Tuesday was the second day of August.

“That seems like a clear loss for Biden. But it turned out that setting and failing to hit the goal did no noticeable damage to the president. Yes, plenty of reporters noticed it and there were some stories about it on July 4. Hitting 70%, moreover, was a news story framed by the fact that it was a month later than Biden had wanted.

“Yet there’s been little blame cast on the administration for falling short.”

Mining companies had long used cyanide to extract gold ore from crushed rock, releasing the tailings and chemicals into waterways. Whitewood Creek had become more than a local eyesore; full of pollutants, its path wound from the Northern Hills, pouring into the Cheyenne River, then the Missouri River and eventually the Mississippi River.

Trickle down vs. Bottom Up.

Th recent data from the IRS show that the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans are earning more than 21 percent of all income – a postwar record. The bottom fifty percent of all Americans combined are earning just 12.8 percent. (Right-wingers have attacked these data by arguing that the IRS improperly counts adjusted gross income, but however you try to bend the numbers the trend is unmistakable.)The consequence of fiscal austerity and unwillingness to raise taxes on the rich is that America doesn’t have the means to lift the bottom half. So what are leading Democrats prescribing? More of the same.

There are only two economic philosophies in America – trickle down and bottom up. Trickle down means the rich get richer and pay less taxes. Supposedly they use their extra income to invest in America, which makes all of us more productive. But it doesn’t work that way. In a global economy, investments don’t trickle down; they trickles out to wherever on the planet the rich can get the highest return. If trickle down worked as advertised inequality wouldn’t be widening so fast.

Bottom up means giving all Americans what they need to be productive – universal and affordable health coverage, good schools, a chance to attend college, job retraining, affordable child care, and good public transportation to and from the job, for starters. But as we learned a decade ago, this requires money – even more, now. So the question is how the nation can afford it and ALSO give the soon-to-retire baby boomers the Social Security and Medicare they expect, pay for homeland security and national defense, invest in non-fossil based fuel technologies, and repair the nation’s decrepit infrastructure (recall the pipe that blew out in New York last July and the bridge that collapsed in Minneapolis). I haven’t even mentioned the trillion dollars necessary to shield the middle class from the Alternative Minimum Tax. Even if we cut corporate welfare, eliminated subsidies to agribusiness, and banned all earmarks, we wouldn’t have nearly enough.

The only way is to stop obsessing about balancing the budget and start pushing for a serious tax hike on the rich. Yet all Democratic presidential candidates are styling themselves “fiscal conservatives” and none has suggested raising the marginal tax rate on the richest beyond the 38 percent rate it was under Bill Clinton. They may talk bottom-up economics but they’re still wedded to trickle down.

NEW - New York Times senior editors instructed staffers not to investigate the origins of #COVID19, according to "two well-placed sources" of The Spectator.

‘In early 2020,’ a veteran Times employee tells me, ‘I suggested to a senior editor at the paper that we investigate the origins of COVID-19. I was told it was dangerous to run a piece about the origins of the coronavirus. There was resistance to running anything that could suggest that [COVID-19 was manmade or had leaked accidentally from a lab].’

The global pandemic was then in its early stages. Donald Trump was running for reelection and calling SARS-CoV-2 the ‘Chinese virus’. His secretary of state Mike Pompeo had told ABC’s This Week in May 2020 that he had seen ‘significant’ and ‘enormous evidence’ of the virus originating in the Wuhan Institute of Virology. A few weeks later, Sir Richard Dearlove, the ex-head of Britain’s MI6 spy service agreed: ‘I subscribe to the theory…that it’s an engineered escapee from the Wuhan Institute [of Virology].’

Yet the Times, according to two well-placed sources, refused to investigate the biggest story of our time. Instead, senior editors are alleged to have suppressed efforts to probe the virus’s origins, and the Times led the charge to dismiss any questioning of the WHO’s now-discredited line as conspiracist or even ‘racist’.

‘It was considered a conspiracy theory,’ confirms a second Times insider who was in a senior position on a different section at the time, and also proposed an investigation. ‘It was untouchable everywhere. The fact that Trump embraced it, of course, also made it a no-go.’

Broken Promises.

1. He said coronavirus would “go away without a vaccine.” You bought it. But it didn’t. While other countries got the pandemic under control and avoided large numbers of fatalities, the virus has killed more than 170,000 Americans, and that number is still climbing.

2. He said he won’t have time to play golf if elected president. But he has made more than 250 visits to his golf clubs since he took office—a record for any president—including more trips during the pandemic than meetings with Dr. Fauci. The total financial cost to America? More than $136 million.

3. He said he would repeal the Affordable Care Act, and replace it with something “beautiful.” It didn’t happen. Instead, seven million Americans have lost their health insurance since he took office. He has asked the Supreme Court to strike down the law in the middle of a global pandemic with no plan to replace it.

4. He said he’d cut your taxes, and that the super-rich like him would pay more. He did the opposite. By 2027, the richest 1 percent will have received 83 percent of the Trump tax cut and the richest 0.1 percent, 60 percent of it. But more than half of all Americans will pay more in taxes.

5. He said corporations would use their tax cuts to invest in American workers. They didn’t. Corporations spent more of their tax savings buying back shares of their own stock than increasing workers’ wages.

6. He said he would boost economic growth by 4 percent a year. Nope. The economy stalled, and unemployment has soared to the highest levels since the Great Depression. Just over half of working-age Americans are employed—the worst ratio in 70 years.

7. He said he wouldn’t “cut Social Security like every other Republican and I’m not going to cut Medicare or Medicaid.” His latest budget includes billions in cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

8. He promised to be “the voice” of American workers. He hasn’t. His administration has stripped workers of their rights, repealed overtime protections, rolled back workplace safety rules, and turned a blind eye to employers who steal their workers’ wages.

9. He promised that the average American family would see a $4,000 pay raise because of his tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. But nothing trickled down. Wages for most Americans have barely kept up with inflation.

10. He promised that anyone who wants a test for COVID will get one. But countless Americans still can’t get a test.

11. He said hydroxychloroquine protects against coronavirus. No way. The FDA revoked its emergency authorization due to the drug’s potentially lethal side effects.

12. He promised to eliminate the federal deficit. He has increased the federal deficit by more than 60 percent.

13. He said he would hire “only the best people.” He has fired a record number of his own Cabinet and White House picks, and then called them “whackos,” “dumb as a rock,” and “not mentally qualified.” Six of them have been charged with crimes.

It's fair to compare between the two lines.

The new requirement, which applies to indoor dining, gyms and indoor entertainment venues, will go into effect Aug. 16. Following a grace period, the city will begin enforcement of the mandate next month.

Compared to the devastating virus dreamt up for 12 Monkeys, the Wuhan virus is more like the coronavirus that causes the common cold, it’s even rather benign compared to the Spanish flu of a century ago. Despite that, the Democrats are using the pandemic for their own ends. The mandates and lockdowns are the means by which the Dems hope to lock in their political power permanently.

The lockdowns only make sense when protecting the immuno-compromised and the elderly; in other words, those who should already have been locked down, sheltering in place. Rather than a quarantine of just those folks, the authorities quarantined everybody, and in doing so killed off countless small businesses and livelihoods.

If the vulnerable had isolated and hunkered down to wait for a cure, the rest of America could have stayed open for business with just a few safety measures, which was exactly what essential workers did. The lockdowns are one of the more unnecessary and harmful things government has ever inflicted upon the People.

The Democrats have made COVID-19 into “the worst thing ever” to justify their shotgun approach to lockdown. Paradoxically, the more arbitrary and unreasonable the strictures of their lockdowns, the more they seem to lock in their authority.

The Democrats’ New Normal is an authoritarianism that they want to last forever. And the Dems don’t seem to worry about resistance from the People. After all, you aren’t gonna violate the “Permanent Emergency Code,”

Masking is a distinction!

Notwithstanding his pieties about America’s need for grace, Mr. Biden has still never been able to give Mr. Trump credit for this achievement. Even so, he has implicitly recognized the priority of vaccination by setting targets and dates, making them among his most recognizable Covid goals.

Though the numbers came up a little short of Mr. Biden’s July 4 goal, the actual vaccinations reflect priorities too. The CDC reports that nearly 165 million Americans have been fully vaccinated, slightly under half the total population. Among those 65 or older, the percentage is 80.1%, again reflecting priorities.

The CDC changed its mask guidance partially in response to a Covid-19 outbreak in Provincetown, Mass., a popular Cape Cod vacation spot. The CDC found 469 cases of Covid-19 in Massachusetts residents who had traveled between July 3 and 17 to Barnstable County, which includes Provincetown, and attended “multiple summer events and large public gatherings.” The Provincetown outbreak was fueled by the Delta variant—more easily transmitted, and with high viral loads—and roughly three-fourths of those infected had been fully vaccinated.

“The war has changed,” the CDC said. But has it?

Much of the reporting interpreted the findings to mean, as the New York Times tweeted, that “the Delta variant is as contagious as chickenpox and may be spread by vaccinated people as easily as the unvaccinated.” CNN’s Oliver Darcy reported the Biden administration is frustrated with what it called “hyperbolic and frankly irresponsible coverage.” And Ben Wakana of the White House Covid-19 Response Team called the Times out, saying “vaccinated people do not transmit the virus at the same rate as unvaccinated people and if you fail to include that context you’re doing it wrong.”

Not Scott Johnson Powerline but where he got his orders from..
