For President Joe Biden, the cost of the war's chaotic end has been steep. His overall job approval rating now stands at 41% who approve versus 55% who disapprove – a big drop in the closely watched barometer of political health. Until last week, national polls generally showed his approval rating above 50%. Now, while he has held the backing of 87% of Democrats, only 32% of independents say he's doing a good job.
The poll was taken Thursday through Monday, when the nation's headlines were dominated by scenes of desperate families trying to evacuate the Kabul airport and a surge of COVID-19 cases across the United States. Half approved of his handling of the pandemic, 39% of his handling of the economy, 26% of his handling of the Afghan withdrawal.
Oh, but this will all go away in a couple of weeks and slow Joes approvals will be right back up into the mid-upper 50s... or so his supporters think. Just wait till those infrastructure bills pass and those Covid vaccine mandates are in place. Then the country will fall back in line.
I think the manner in which this guy was sold to us, was that he would bring back world confidence to the United States after some of our world leaders took issue with the behavior of our previous President. But while our previous President wasn't always the most politically correct person or the guy who buttered up his allies, he wasn't really (at any point in time) incompetent.
There is a difference between not liking someone and not believing someone is capable of doing a particular job. I've had bosses in the past that I didn't necessarily like, but I knew they were competent at their jobs. I also had bosses that I did like, who I knew struggled to keep up with their responsibilities. Generally if I want to work for a successful organization I would choose the former over the latter.
But we didn't just elect Joe Biden because he was more likable than Trump. The argument was that he was a steady hand who could guide us through crisis and be up to the task with working with the rest of the world. But so far he has been a disaster. One humiliation after another. I suspect the world would rather have a guy they didn't like versus a guy they can't trust to do the job.

Americans Trapped By Taliban With No Rescue Plan Happy To Hear They Are Not Stranded
KABUL—Americans stuck in Afghanistan with no way to get to the airport or sneak past the Taliban are relieved after White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki confirmed that they're not actually stranded.
"It's irresponsible to say these Americans are stranded," said Jen Psaki as she forcefully swatted down a reporter who dared to use the word. "The word 'stranded' is divisive and a little bit dramatic, to be honest. You're only saying they're 'stranded' because you are a pouncing Republican, and because Americans are trapped behind enemy lines with the Taliban and they have little hope of making it to the airport and escaping certain death because we're not doing anything to go get them."
"That's not the same as 'stranded'," she said.
"Whew, what a relief!" said Mohammed Achmed Mohammed, a U.S. Military contractor and translator as he hid under a bed as the Taliban ransacked his house. "All this time I thought we were stranded, but Miss Psaki said we aren't! Great news!"
Psaki was also quick to confirm that the trapped Americans they are doing nothing to help are not 'abandoned', 'forsaken', 'trapped', 'cut-off', 'marooned', 'left high and dry', or 'screwed.'
The Americans stuck in Afghanistan breathed a collective sigh of relief after learning they were none of those things.

The Taliban have begun halting U.S. citizens trying to pass through the gates of Kabul’s main airport for evacuation following an announcement from Afghanistan’s new rulers that routes to the airport are now only open to foreigners.
Politico Alex Thompson reports: “. @laraseligman and I report that the Taliban has now started halting people trying to get in through the airport gates. Not just Afghans but American citizens. Informal groups coordinating need to redirect people on the fly, per 3 sources.”

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said during a Sunday press conference with Vice President Kamala Harris that he believed after America’s “awry” withdrawal of troops led to the fall of Afghanistan, global perceptions of our image would be determined in the days ahead.
“What will influence perceptions of U.S. resolve and commitment to the region will be what the U.S. does going forward: how it repositions itself in the region, how it engages its broad range of friends and partners and allies in the region, and how it continues the fight against terrorism,” Lee said. “Countries make calculations and take positions, and they have to make recalculations and adjust their positions from time to time. Sometimes it can be done smoothly. Sometimes there are hiccups. Sometimes things go awry and take time to put right.”
He made the comment in response to a reporter’s question about how Singapore would “work with the United States as it completes its mission in Afghanistan.”
The reporter also asked Harris what the U.S. message was to its partners. Harris spoke directly after Lee, but didn’t directly address the question. “The reason I am here is because the United States is a global leader, and we take that role seriously,” Harris said.

Ron DeSantis hit with brutal poll numbers as COVID-19 surges in Florida
Brad Reed
August 24, 2021
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis made a big bet that opposing public health restrictions aimed at slowing the spread of the novel coronavirus would be a political winner -- but a new poll suggests he has massively miscalculated.
New polling from Quinnipiac shows that Florida residents are broadly in favor of taking precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including the mask mandates that DeSantis has tried banning in public schools.
Overall, 60 percent of Florida voters support school mask mandates, while just 36 percent are opposed.
DeSantis's policy of cutting off salaries of school leaders who defy his mask mandate ban, meanwhile, is even more politically toxic for the governor, as just 25 percent say the policy is a good idea while 69 percent say it's a bad idea.
That's the kind of politicans I despise. Red or blue
Democrats Strike Deal to Advance Budget Framework
August 24, 2021 at 3:46 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard
“After hours of infighting, House Democrats on Tuesday struck a deal that would approve their $3.5 trillion budget resolution, set up floor action on the bipartisan infrastructure bill by Sept. 27 and advance voting rights legislation,” Axios reports.
“The agreement allows all sides to say they got something, though none can claim a total win.”
The Washington Post notes the resolution passed 220 to 212.
Taegan Goddard says:
"Nancy Pelosi is worthy of the Robert Caro treatment one day."
(In other words, she deserves someday to have a Pulitizer Prize winning biography written about her.)
Under programs established by Congress with broad bipartisan support, certain Afghans who helped the U.S. war effort could be eligible for a Special Immigrant Visa (SIV), which allows approved applicants to move to the U.S. permanently with their spouses and children.
One program is designed to provide U.S. safe harbor to Afghans who served as translators or interpreters for the U.S. military. Another larger program allows Afghans who worked for the U.S. government, its contractors or NATO to obtain the special visa if they meet certain requirements.
While the smaller program for interpreters and translators is permanent, the second classification is temporary and will expire when all allotted visas are issued. In July, Congress added 8,000 additional visas to the broader classification, bringing the total to 34,500 visas.
Other ways for Afghans to qualify for refugee resettlement
Afghans being evacuated from Kabul who are not eligible for the special visas could still qualify for U.S. refugee resettlement if they are waiting in third countries and fear persecution if returned to Afghanistan. Earlier this summer, the Biden administration created a new refugee category for Afghans who worked with U.S.-based news outlets and nongovernmental groups.
Advocates and some lawmakers want to speed up the time-intensive application process for these visas to move people out more quickly, before the deadline.
They're calling on the Biden administration to use an immigration tool known as "humanitarian parole" to allow vulnerable Afghans, such as women leaders, to enter the U.S. without a visa. Those paroled could potentially be eligible for other immigration benefits like asylum if they can just reach the U.S.

What are the Special Immigrant Visa requirements?
Special Immigrant Visa applicants must submit multiple documents to the State Department, including letters of recommendation and documentation describing their U.S. affiliation and threats they've received because of their work.
Applicants must also file an application with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Once they're approved, they need to submit additional paperwork for visas, including for eligible family members.
They must then be interviewed in person at a U.S. embassy or consulate and undergo security screenings and medical checks. Then, their visas are issued, and they may travel to the U.S.

It's going to be difficult but they will pass both of them are Sleepy Joe will be the next FDR.

WASHINGTON — With President Joe Biden intending to stick to the Aug. 31 deadline for U.S. troops to leave Afghanistan, it's becoming clear that thousands of the Afghans who helped the U.S. won't be evacuated, a scenario that has engendered deep frustration inside U.S. national security agencies.
"People are furious and disgusted," said a former U.S. intelligence official who declined to be quoted by name. A defense official said he grew nauseated as he considered how many Afghan allies would be left behind.
At the CIA, "officers feel a real sense of obligation, moral obligation and personal obligation" to the Afghans they supported and trained, said former CIA Director John Brennan, an NBC News national security consultant.
But the precarious situation for U.S. troops on the ground left Biden with no good options to extend their presence, military officials said.
Rep. Crow: 'Not going to be possible' to get Americans and Afghan allies out before Aug. 31
An unannounced meeting Monday in Kabul, the Afghan capital, between CIA Director William Burns and the de facto Taliban leader, Abdul Ghani Baradar, appears to have helped speed evacuations, said Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., and other U.S. officials. But it didn't prompt a Taliban agreement to tolerate a longer stay for the 6,000 U.S. troops at the airport.
The U.S. proposed to extend the withdrawal date by four days, offering a promise to hand over a functioning airport to the Taliban after cleaning it up and leaving a Turkish staff to run it. But the Taliban refused to entertain any extension, two defense officials said.
The result, U.S. officials said, is that evacuations are likely to slow considerably by Friday to give the military enough time to effect an orderly withdrawal. That isn't nearly enough time to evacuate all the Afghan interpreters, drivers and others who helped the 20-year U.S. effort in the country, and it may not be enough time to remove every American, officials acknowledged.
Republicans expressed outrage even before Biden announced his decision.
"Damn the deadline," said Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., a member of the Intelligence Committee. "Americans want us to stay until we get our people out, and so do our allies. ... Mr. President, tell the Taliban we're getting our people out however long it takes and that we're perfectly willing to spill Taliban, Al Qaeda and ISIS blood to do it."
But defense officials painted a dire picture of how such a fight might play out. Thousands of hardened Taliban fighters surround the Kabul airport, they noted, and U.S. forces could be extremely vulnerable to attack. The U.S. could defend itself from the air, but if a fight broke out, the likelihood of civilian casualties would be high. And at that point, it would be almost impossible for Americans or Afghan allies to get to the airport.

Wokism caused the American withdrawal to collapse.
It isn’t unreasonable to wonder whether openly promoting homosexuality in one of the most fundamentalist Muslim societies on Earth might have served as a tipping point to the collapse which followed.
And the rainbow flag was hardly the first leftist cultural aggression inflicted on an unwilling Afghan populace.
Much has been made about how under American tutelage Afghan girls had been empowered to seek an education, and that’s undoubtedly a good thing. There have even been Afghan girls graduating from college in significant numbers for the first time during our 20-year regime there.
Except what exactly are the graduates learning? You can imagine that Afghanistan isn’t a particularly welcoming place for the kinds of woke studies one finds so often on American campuses, and yet there we were promoting precisely that — and not just to college students.
Heba Yosry at Unherd describes the idiocy succinctly:
Afghan women were central to the US policy too — an astonishing US government report from February 2021 shows just how central. The Americans pursued a strategy of “gender mainstreaming” in the country, a suite of policies that aimed to empower Afghan women. Quotas were introduced that guaranteed a set number of women in parliament; rural councils, likewise, were balanced by gender. The US sent “gender advisors” to the country; they attempted to integrate women into the Afghan army; training centres, housing, child care centres, gyms, dining facilities, and bathrooms were all built for women. And Afghan men were enlisted to the gender mainstreaming cause — US programs gave “trainings to 1,105 Afghan men in which they could discuss their own gender roles and examine male attitudes that are harmful to women.” One initiative was called the “National Masculinity Alliance”.
. . .
Women’s rights continued to be viewed by many as a foreign notion that was introduced by invaders to sully women’s honour and distract them from their divinely determined duties inside the home. To these people, the concept of women’s rights belongs to the secular sphere that the infidel West was trying to impose upon a deeply conservative and religious country. The Taliban see their role as rectifying the behaviour of their people who were tempted by the devil.
The US tried to switch Afghan women into Western-style feminism — a dream that dissipated because it wasn’t grounded in Afghan or Muslim reality. A focus on gradually revising religious discourse and allowing for a more tolerant understanding of Islam might have yielded more sustainable results — sadly we will now never know.
Let’s also remember that the U.S. military spent the first six months of 2021 attempting to indoctrinate the troops into woke ideology rather than preparing for an orderly withdrawal from Afghanistan. Just ask our Joint Chiefs of Staff chairperson, Gen. Mark “Thoroughly Modern” Milley
The right wing media is out of their minds.

‘Apathy and obstruction': Florida Rep. Wasserman-Schultz slams Gov. DeSantis for COVID-19 response
from this Delta surge or
at least get out of the way
A few months ago, Gov. Ron DeSantis, Republican of Florida, declared his hands-off approach to COVID-19 “a tremendous success.” Politico announced that he had “won the pandemic.”
But then came the hypercontagious Delta variant, which continues to hit Florida harder than anywhere else in the country.
The result? DeSantis just added another, less flattering distinction to his résumé. When COVID first surged across the Sun Belt last summer, the average number of Floridians dying of the disease every 24 hours peaked at 185, according to the New York Times’s state-by-state COVID database. The same was true over the winter.
Johnson & Johnson said Wednesday a booster shot of its Covid-19 vaccine generated a promising immune in early stage clinical trials – though the information provided by the company in a press release was light on some details.
J&J’s vaccine requires only one dose and recipients are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the shot. The company said Wednesday that J&J recipients who received a booster dose of the shot generated virus-fighting antibodies “nine-fold higher” than those seen four weeks after a single dose.
Increases in antibody responses were observed in vaccine trial participants between ages 18 and 55, the company said, and in those 65 years and older who received a lower dosage of the booster shot.
The results are based on two Phase 1/2 studies, according to the company.
“We have established that a single shot of our COVID-19 vaccine generates strong and robust immune responses that are durable and persistent through eight months,” Dr. Mathai Mammen, head of research and development at J&J’s Janssen vaccine arm, said in a statement.
“With these new data, we also see that a booster dose of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine further increases antibody responses among study participants who had previously received our vaccine,” he added.

This driver's license photo from the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA), provided to AP by the Calvert County Sheriff's Office, shows Ashli Babbitt. Babbitt was fatally shot by an employee of the Capitol Police inside the U.S. Capitol building in Washington on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, while the rioters were moving toward the House chamber. On the day the police officer who shot her was exonerated, I went back and watched the terrifying footage of Ashli Babbitt’s death during the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
It had been months since I’d seen it, and I had forgotten how frightening it was, the kind of scene we see all the time in the movies — transformed suddenly into a shocking, violent reality.
In the seven months since she was killed, Babbitt has become a martyr to the far right. In the twisted revisionist narrative being pushed by former President Trump and his supporters, she was a peaceful demonstrator — an “innocent, wonderful, incredible woman” — who was unjustifiably murdered by the police even though she posed no danger.
But that’s not what the video shows. Her death was a tragedy, to be sure — but it was hardly an unjustified murder.
In our first view of Babbitt on the video she’s at the front of an angry mob trying to get through to the “Speaker’s Lobby,” where members of Congress and staff are holed up. She’s screaming at the police, apparently demanding entry.
The crowd is surging. It’s at the doors. “F— the blue!” can be heard. People are bashing at the glass panels on the doors with sticks and flagpoles. Several police officers are doing their best to hold back an entire crowd, but it seems like a losing battle. “Break it down,” yells the crowd.
Sleepy Joe President Biden is expected to host executives from major technology, financial and energy companies on Wednesday for a summit on national cybersecurity, a gathering that comes amid heightened fears about proliferating disruptive attacks on American businesses and infrastructure.
Top Silicon Valley chief executives, including Apple Inc.’s Tim Cook, Amazon.com Inc.’s Andy Jassy, Microsoft Corp.’s Satya Nadella and Alphabet Inc.’s Sundar Pichai are scheduled to attend the White House meeting, according to a list of participants shared by an administration official. Also expected are JPMorgan Chase & Co. CEO Jamie Dimon and Brian Moynihan, president and CEO of Bank of America Corp. , among other representatives of the financial industry.
He's not playing golf!
I have seen the video and the officer followed life saving procedures..
Saw an interview of a White Guy giving the reasons he had for not getting the shot!!! His main reason was that 11k people had died after receiving the shot and that he not!!!! Seems to me he got the same source from either fucked up or the thief who argued without proof of thousands of fatalities from the shot who in reality there may have been 1 !!!!!!!
Shit
Alky,
If I were to pick one word out of the English vocabulary to sum up this entire administration in all its fetid glory, that would be the one.
Good job, alky.

There is no justification for the police to kill an unarmed woman.
Deadly force is only justified for an unarmed person if they are putting police or civilians in jeopardy of life or serious injury.
