So CNN and others now reporting that the drone targeting a vehicle actually hit a house and killed a family...

EVACUATIONS ENDING. US LEAVES AMID ISIS FIRE. TAIL TUCKED SQUARELY BETWEEN LEGS

9 family members killed after US strike in residential area of Kabul, eyewitnesses
From CNN's Sandi Sidhu, Nick Paton Walsh, and Tim Lister
Nine members of one family were killed in a US drone strike targeting a vehicle in a residential neighborhood of Kabul, according to a relative of those killed. Those killed included six children, the youngest being a 2-year-old girl, the brother of one of the dead told a local journalist working with CNN. He said the people killed were his brother Zamaray (40 years old), Naseer (30), Zameer (20), Faisal (10), Farzad (9), Armin (4), Benyamin (3), Ayat (2) and Sumaya (2). The brother cried as he told the journalist that they were “an ordinary family.” “We are not ISIS or Daesh and this was a family home — where my brothers lived with their families,” he said.

The original story from the Biden Administration maintained that the drone was successful and there was no civilian casualties. Of course, how can the United States make these claims when they have no people on the ground to actually verify anything? In fact, if they didn't have intelligence to determine how long the Afghans could hold Kabul, how could we actually know where to locate a suicide bombing attempt in a city where we are on our way out?

However, the stories originally being reported in the international press from reporters on the ground stated that the missile hit a house, not a car. At the time, there was no indication that it was even a US Missile. Not more than 12 hours later, it would appear that even American press are reporting the drone attack as hitting a house and killing a family of nine. No word on whether these same reporters are accepting the story that it also killed the target.

The story from the Biden Administration was shaky at best. By the time they reported that they had taken out two terrorists attempting to attack the airport, there was news footage all around the world of smoke coming up from a residential area that appeared to have leveled a building (thought to be a random house).

The story migrated into the idea that there was so many explosives in the vehicles that secondary explosions were set off and possibly did damage around that area. Then for a while, there was talk of a second blast that was being pushed as responsible for the house bombing. Of course, the scenes from on the ground being shown everywhere didn't show any evidence either secondary explosions or a second explosion. Just the one explosion and the one set of smoke that had already been pinpointed to a house.

So what is the "real story" here folks? Did the US actually stave off a terror threat and kill two terrorists with a vehicle full of explosives? If so, there really doesn't appear to be much tangible evidence of that? Or did they actually hit a house and kill a family and then tell everyone that they killed terrorists? Unders normal circumstances I would never believe that the US would make that sort of mistake and play it off as a success.... but then again, that has been the modus operandi of the Administration's handling of this entire Afghanistan fiasco.

Meanwhile, reports are that things are extremely dangerous and violatable at the airport and that evacuations have slowed to a slow crawl.  Missiles are being lobbed at the airport and have been for several hours. The US (however) contends that they have not ended evacuation efforts and will continue flights through the deadline.

In the final year of World War II, the Allies prepared for a costly invasion of the Japanese mainland. This undertaking was preceded by a conventional and firebombing campaign that devastated 67 Japanese cities.

Sure Roger... but when Truman dropped the bombs on Japan he didn't suggest that he aimed them at terrorists, hit them flush, and that no civilians got injured.

My issue is in the apparently lie here. If you were watching the news when the bombs went off (and before the US took credit) every major outlet was reporting that it was a missile that leveled a house. They suspected a terror attack.

Then the US came out and said it was their drone attack and that it had hit a vehicle.

Yesterday I had offered doubt that we were getting the true and full story, based on what had already been reported and what we were actually seeing live on the news. There didn't appear to be multiple explosions as our Administration was suggesting.

Yesterday you called me a nut and conspiracy theorists who needed help for questioning this.

Today... it appears that at least some of our own reporters are now telling a different story than the Administration reported.

Instead of coming up with a "different" unfounded reason to call me names, perhaps you should just apologize for what you said about me yesterday, considering it appears that my skepticism was logical and well founded.

Impeach Biden

He committed treason. 13 Americans died. He should pay the price.

We all saw Biden checking his watch at Dover while waiting for the transfer of the men and women he killed to be complete. The dead Americans are no more to him than the Afghans whose deaths he had falsely dismissed as having happened, “four or five days ago.”

After another four or five days, Biden hopes that the dead Americans will be forgotten.

Biden is counting on Americans to have as bad a memory as he does. And if Republicans remain silent, pivoting to the next scandal or talking point, he will have been proven right.

The Americans murdered and betrayed by Biden deserve justice. They deserve to see the question of his impeachment raised and debated. And America’s honor deserves it too.

The world must not think that what it saw in Kabul represents a new American normal.

That would be devastating to our national security and to our honor. The world must know that what happened was a crime. And that Americans will work to hold the criminal accountable.

Don't have to trust me, Reverend.

I linked the story from CNN reporters today. If you were alive yesterday, then you know that reporters all over the world yesterday were reporting that whatever bomb or missile was dropped hit a house and killed at least one child. I linked UK reporters yesterday.

Press releases and statements can be wrong or misleading or whatever. But the footage we were watching yesterday seemed to obviously show that there was a single blast that appeared to have leveled a house.

Plain and simple. So who do you trust? Biden or your lying eyes?

We are dealing with the here and now. Either Biden and his Administration lied again about Afghanistan or didn't. The facts appear to show that they once again told us that something went right, when in fact it appears to have gone horribly awry.

It's one thing to consistently be incompetent. Did they really shoot a vehicle with terrorists getting ready to attack the airport in a heroic effort to save face and show true resolve and competence?

Or was it a house that got leveled and did a family get killed instead, because they cannot seem to walk and chew gum at the same time?

What do you think happened Roger?

No matter how good the intentions and how precise your weaponry is there are going to be collateral civilian casualties. That is war.

This is on Biden too. If he didn't give the order to bug out.

1. Kabul would still in the hands of the central government and Afghan national army.
2. 13 US military personnel would still be alive today.
3. Hundreds of Afghan nationals, including the 9 killed today would still be alive.

Wouldn't you think that was what would have originally been reported by people on the ground and seen in the actual footage. When there was no claims from anyone as to who was responsible for the bombing.... there would have been no reason for the original reports to be fabricated or lied about or incorrect.

Wouldn't the original reports have been accurate?

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

You mean the truck with an IED? They blew it into pieces of metal fragments

C.H. Truth said...

I was watching the news when this happened Roger.

Before the US claimed responsibility for the drone strike there was already footage and eyewitness accounts that the bomb had hit a house.

There were no reports that a bomb hit a car and then there were other explosions that hit the house. Just reports that a missile landed in a residential area and blew up a building (assumed to be a house because it was a residential area).

The news had overhead views and pinpointed where the bomb hit.

All of this was BEFORE the US claimed that they had just used a drone strike to hit two men in a vehicle and that they were successful with no civilian casualties.

But.... Roger. Let's give them the benefit of the doubt that they did not have all of the information at the time they released their statement. That not a single person in the Biden Administration had watched any news footage of what had happened with the bomb.

Why would they say that there were no civilian casualties when they obviously didn't have enough information to claim as such (and when there appeared to be news footage showing otherwise)?

Why did then then talk about secondary explosions later? Why was there even talk that the house was a separate explosion?

How is it that you can be so intellectually incurious about this?

So trusting that whatever the hell the Administration tells you, must be true. Even when you should have already known better?

C.H. Truth said...

You mean the truck with an IED? They blew it into pieces of metal fragments

If there are pictures of a Truck exploded, then I haven't seen them.

If you want to link those pictures I would be glad to look at them. If that vehicle appears to be next to the House that exploded, then I would accept that as proof.

But as I watched the news yesterday, there had been no offering of such a vehicle being blown up.

But if I am wrong, Roger... and there is evidence of a vehicle that exploded in the same area as the House that would account for all of this. Then I would certainly admit to such.

I reviewed new pictures today Roger...
i
They show the house and a vehicle that was actually said to be in the house that is completely destroyed. Looks like a carport or makeshift garage. It appears to be a reddish SUV that is mostly a shell.

So if that is the pictures that you are talking about, that was not what we were told. We were told that a vehicle was its way to the airport when it was destroyed. Not sitting at a house. Perhaps it thrown from the street and just happened to look like it was sitting at the house parked.

I guess that is possible?

I also found some pictures circulating of a destroyed car sitting out by what looks to be field that some are saying is the vehicle from yesterday. But the pictures are not from a residential area and the date stamps are from May 8th.

But hey... if that was the vehicle that had two terrorists that looks like it was parked at or in that house of the family of 9 then that is the story. I am skeptical that we would have drone stuck a vehicle that was that close to a house that had a family of nine living it it.

But that is better to believe than they just hit a house and killed a family.

Well for one, Roger...

It's called the Geneva Convention. Maybe you heard of it.

International war laws suggest that you are not allowed to bomb targets that pose a significant risk to civilians. Since the world wars (where everyone bombed everyone) we (as a world) no longer allow the targeting of civilian targets or even the targeting of military targets that pose a significant risk to civilians. Today, Truman would be a mass murderer and tried for war crimes.

So if we targeted a vehicle that was either parked at or near a house with a family, then that would be an actual war-crime. No questions asked. The people who gave that order are war criminals.

If we were supposedly targeting a moving vehicle on its way to the airport carrying explosives, then it is our obligation to make sure that we hit it when it poses the lowest threat to civilians. If we chose to hit it when it was that close to a house and it killed an entire family than most likely those who ordered it could be tried as war criminals as well.

I am guessing that there would have been plenty of places between that highly residential area and the airport to have taken it out. But we didn't do that. We killed a family.

And no... I am not entirely convinced that we actually killed any terrorists. I hope to god we did. But none of this really adds up. The only thing that could possibly explain how this happened, is to just accept the fact that these people running the show are idiots who fucked up to such a degree that they should be tried as war criminals.

Those costs were put on the US troops at the front lines. They signed up to protect their country and their country’s leadership betrayed them. Their leadership instructed them to follow a plan that made them vulnerable. And did they ever pay the price.

Roger doesn't seem to believe that civilian casualties are an issue and then cited WWII as an example of civilian casualties. Of course it was exactly those casualties and those acts that brought about the Geneva Convention...

now wasn't it?

Sure, from an ethical standpoint, targeting a vehicle in a residential area that ends up killing a family of 9 (and at least one other civilian) is nothing compared to dropping nuclear bombs on cities.

But from an international legal issue, targeting anything in a residential area that puts civilians at risk can now be considered a war crime.

But thanks for missing the point.

Wars Have Beginnings and Ends

Jim Webb:
“We should start with a truism. Wars have beginnings and they have ends. The ends for one and sometimes both sides are not always what the combatants initially envisioned. And in the case of Afghanistan, the war that we began was not the same war that we are finally bringing to an end.

“When we went into Afghanistan in 2001 our national concern was to eliminate terrorist entities who desired to attack us. The common understanding at the time was that we would operate with maneuver elements capable of attacking and neutralizing terrorist entities. It was never to occupy territory with permanent bases or to attempt to change the societal and governmental structure of the Afghan people.

This ‘mission creep’ began after a few years of successful operations and was obvious in 2004 when I was in the country as an embedded journalist. The change in mission eventually increased our troop presence tenfold and sent our forces on an impossible political journey that no amount of military success could overcome.”

This is a hard newsletter to write, because there is no sugarcoating it. Yesterday was the worst day of the Biden presidency, but that’s not really the point, is it? Or, at least it shouldn’t be. The bombing in Kabul was a national and a human tragedy. Some of you may actually be old enough to remember when the shock of losing the lives of 13 American servicemen would have brought us together, if only briefly, as a nation.

No longer.

ian bremmer @ianbremmer

After 9/11, the United States came together—at home and with all allies—to defeat a common enemy. Today, the country and the alliance is more divided than at any point in our lifetimes.

As far as I can remember, Democrats did not demand GW’s resignation (or impeachment) after 9/11. Nor was there a clamor for Reagan’s head the day that 241 Marines were killed in Lebanon. There was fierce criticism, but no one discussed the 25th Amendment. The Bay of Pigs was an epic disaster, but Republicans did not (as far as I remember) immediately call for JFK’s resignation.

Some [Republicans] called on Biden to resign as president in the wake of the attack — and not just conservative darlings like Sens. JOSH HAWLEY (R-Mo.) and MARSHA BLACKBURN (R-Tenn.), but also Rep. TOM RICE (R-S.C.), one of only 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach DONALD TRUMP. Sen. RICK SCOTT (R-Fla.) has floated invoking the 25th Amendment, which won’t happen. There’s already talk about impeaching Biden over the ordeal if, as many expect, the GOP flips the House.

It all signals Republicans’ eagerness to capitalize on this crisis and potentially hammer it into a Benghazi-style scandal. On a House GOP conference call Thursday night, the ranking members of several committees — who could wield gavels and subpoena power in 2023 — said they’ve already sent document preservation requests to the administration.

**

A brief thought about the tragedy and the mission.

Perhaps it’s simply a sign of getting older that these deaths seem to hit harder every year. Maybe it’s knowing how much pain there is, and the hole it leaves. The reality of tragedy is not like movies where everyone moves on and the endings are usually happy and uplifting. Real tragedies cut deep and linger for years, even lifetimes. And, as you get older, you realize how much is lost when a young life is cut short.

But let’s also take a moment to talk about courage and meaning.

Aaron Astor @AstorAaron

It's hard to comprehend the bravery of the US Marines who gave their lives in Kabul today. They were told days ago that they'd be targeted by ISIS-K bombers. They knew that. And, yet, they went ahead and did their duty, processing evacuations and winding down this terrible war.

We will continue to debate the wisdom of the 20-year war, and we are likely to remember the retreat from Afghanistan as a fiasco. We’ll continue to ask, “Was it worth it?”

But no one will doubt the courage of the servicemembers who were in Kabul yesterday. They knew what this particular mission was. They understood the risks. And they gave their lives to save the lives of untold thousands of Americans, Afghans, and coalition partners. Since last month, 110,600 people have been evacuated, many of them saved from almost certain death.

Whatever we think of the war or the withdrawal, this mission in Kabul was not futile and their deaths were not meaningless. None of their families should wonder whether they died in vain.

Whole worlds have been rescued because of their courage. Generations unborn will live in freedom and safety because of their sacrifices.

If only we could take a moment from the finger-pointing to honor them.

My family was a member of The Greatest Generation.

The current Republican party is betraying them.

I know exactly what the military reported. I wrote exactly what the military reported yesterday. I don't need to go read it again, as if reading it again will make be believe it or not believe it anymore than I already do or don't.

A trillion news outlets could report what the military is saying and that would not make it any more or less true?

You do understand that, correct?

What I don't understand is why there is no real explanation given as to why this particular drone attack had to take place in a residential area over two miles from the Airport when the vehicle(s) would have had to have traveled on less populated streets and roads to get to the airport.

Officials are now confirming from eyewitness accounts that the vehicles were not actually moving, but rather they were parked in front of the house that was occupied by the family that was killed. Why blow up vehicles that you believe have explosives in them which would make it quite obvious that the explosion would escalate and kill people.

Why not wait to see if the vehicles actually start to move. Obviously if they were "parked" as all reports suggest, why do we believe that the terrorists were actually in those vehicles?

Lastly... why have local authorities been able to identify the family members that died in the explosion, but there doesn't seem to be any identification of any terrorists who may have died at the scene?

Again... the more you know, the less this adds up.

All we do know is that two parked vehicles, a house, and 10 Afghani people were blown up by a US Drone.

Apparently we should be slobbering over how great Biden is for killing an Afghan family? Sorry if that isn't going to happen. If he kills three more, will he have made up for the 13 dead Americans?

C.H. Truth said...

Sunday’s news reports that the Biden Administration mistakenly killed nine members of one Afghan family, including six children, in “retaliation” for last week’s suicide attack which killed 13 US servicemembers, is a sad and sick epitaph on the 20 year Afghanistan war.

Promising to “get tough” on ISIS, which suddenly re-emerged to take responsibility for the suicide attack, the most expensive military and intelligence apparatus on earth appears to have gotten it wrong. Again.

Interventionists love to pretend they care about girls and women in Afghanistan, but it is in reality a desperate attempt to continue the 20-year US occupation. If we leave, they say, girls and women will be discriminated against by the Taliban.

It’s hard to imagine a discrimination worse than being incinerated by a drone strike, but these “collateral damage” attacks over the past 20 years have killed scores of civilians. Just like on Sunday.

That’s the worst part of this whole terrible war: day-after-day for twenty years civilians were killed because of the “noble” effort to re-make Afghanistan in the image of the United States. But the media and the warmongers who call the shots in government - and the “private” military-industrial sector - could not have cared less. Who recalls a single report on how many civilians were just “collateral damage” in the futile US war?

Sadly these children killed on Sunday, two of them reportedly just two years old, have been the ones forced to pay the price for a failed and bloody US foreign policy.

Yes, the whole exit from Afghanistan has been a debacle. Biden, but especially his military planners and incompetent advisors, deserves much of what has been piled onto him this past week or so about this incompetence.

Maybe if Biden’s Secretary of Defense and Joint Chiefs’ Chairman had spent a bit more time planning the Afghan exit and a lot less time obsessing on how to turn the US military into a laboratory for cultural Marxism, we might have actually had a workable plan.

We know that actual experts like Col. Douglas Macgregor did have a plan to get out that would have spared innocent lives. But because this decorated US Army veteran was “tainted” by his service in the previous administration – service that was solely focused on how to get out of Afghanistan safely – he would not be consulted by the Pentagon’s “woke” top military brass.

Trump also should share some of the blame currently being showered on Biden. He wanted to get out years ago, but never had the courage to stand up to the also incompetent generals and “experts” he foolishly hired to advise him.

Similarly, many conservatives (especially neoconservatives) are desperate to attack Biden not for how he got out of Afghanistan, but for the fact that he is getting us out of Afghanistan.

That tells you all you need to know about how profitable war is to the warmongers.

I’ve always said, “we just marched in, we can just march out,” and I stand by that view. Yes, you can “just march out” of these idiotic interventions…but you do need a map!

The Education Department announced Monday that it's investigating five Republican-led states that have banned mask requirements in schools, saying the policies could amount to discrimination against students with disabilities or health conditions.

The department's Office for Civil Rights sent letters to education chiefs in Iowa, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Utah. Those states have barred schools from requiring masks among all students and staff, a move that the department says could prevent some students from safely attending school.

"It's simply unacceptable that state leaders are putting politics over the health and education of the students they took an oath to serve," Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a statement. "The department will fight to protect every student's right to access in-person learning safely."

Of course, the same would apply to them if they violated the treaty.

But when did Bush, Obama, or Trump bomb houses in a residential neighborhood?

And by house, if you want to suggest bombing the cars sitting in the driveway different from the house, then that is a distinction without a difference, especially since they should have expected that vehicles full of explosives would also take out the house if you hit them. In fact, two vehicles with full tanks of gas would explode large enough to probably take out the house.

Well the real issue isn't so much an increase in hate crimes, it's an increase in the types of crimes that are now labelled as such. When we loosen the means to identify something as a "hate crime" then quite obviously more crimes will be reported as hate crimes.

Rocket science!

U.S. military officials are acknowledging reports of civilian casualties as the result of a drone strike on an explosives-laden vehicle carrying would-be suicide bombers in Kabul over the weekend.

"We know that there were substantial and powerful subsequent explosions resulting from the destruction of the vehicle, indicating a large amount of explosive material inside that may have caused additional casualties. It is unclear what may have happened, and we are investigating further," Capt. Bill Urban, spokesman for U.S. Central Command said in a statement. "We would be deeply saddened by any potential loss of innocent life."

Nine members of one family, including a child younger than 3 years old, were killed in the strike, CNN reported.

"All the neighbors tried to help and brought water to put out the fire and I saw that there were five or six people dead," a neighbor told the network. "The father of the family and another young boy and there were two children. They were dead. They were in pieces. There were [also] two wounded."

Urban said in an earlier statement on Sunday that the airstrike, which occurred on a vehicle packed with explosives traveling through a residential neighborhood in Kabul, eliminated "an imminent ISIS-K threat” to the Hamid Karzai International Airport.

The last thing students with disabilities or health conditions need is to be deprived oxygen and continually recycle the germs in their saliva by being require to wear a mask.

These students got along fine before the COVID hysteria and they be as healthy today without the mask.

However, If parents are that concern about their children getting COVID than they have the right to make them wear mask. They just don't have the right to dictate their values to other parents.

Reduce fuel time is the most likely reason. When Bagram air base was open it would the drones no more than 2 hours to get on station which left hours of time hovering over the target.

That is no longer true. It now takes drones based in the UAE 7 to 8 hours to get on station which leaves very little time over the target before you have to strike. This is an indictment on the closing of Bagram air base.

It also would be problematic to the US if the UAE doesn't want to be part of inflicting civilian Islamic casualties and demand the US cease drone strikes.

The Wall Street Journal is a RINO according to rrb
A U.S. drone struck a vehicle packed with explosives in a residential area of Kabul on Sunday, preventing an imminent attack on the city’s airport, the Pentagon said, as the massive international airlift out of Afghanistan entered its final hours.

The vehicle contained multiple suicide bombers affiliated with Islamic State who intended to strike the airport, possibly targeting U.S. troops, a defense official said.

The Kabul airstrike came three days after an Islamic State suicide bombing at the city’s airport killed 13 American troops and nearly 200 Afghans. The U.S. retaliated Saturday with another drone strike against an alleged Islamic State planner in the eastern province of Nangarhar.

Exclusive Video Shows Aftermath of U.S. Drone Strike in Afghanistan

Exclusive video shows the scene of an airstrike conducted by the U.S. military targeting suspected Islamic State militants on Saturday in eastern Afghanistan.

A senior Afghan health official, who also worked with the U.S.-backed government, said the Sunday strike killed five civilians and hit a house. Pictures purportedly from the scene showed a bombed-out car inside a compound. The Italian-run Emergency Hospital in central Kabul said it had received one patient injured in the drone strike.

The Pentagon said it was assessing the possibility of civilian casualties, but had no such indications.

“Significant secondary explosions from the vehicle indicated the presence of a substantial amount of explosive material,” Capt. Bill Urban, spokesman for the U.S. Central Command said of the Sunday strike. Habibi Samangani, a senior Taliban official in Kabul, confirmed that a vehicle carrying explosives had been hit.

Meanwhile, as the international mass airlift out of Afghanistan was ending on Sunday, the State Department said that the U.S., the European Union and more than 70 other nations “have received assurances from the Taliban that all foreign nationals and any Afghan citizen with travel authorization from our countries will be allowed to proceed in a safe and orderly manner to points of departure and travel outside the country” after the air evacuations end and U.S. forces depart on Tuesday.

Nearly 5,500 American citizens have been safely evacuated from Afghanistan since Aug. 14, while approximately 250 Americans are still trying to leave the country, a State Department spokesman said. An additional 280 self-identified Americans in Afghanistan remain undecided about whether to leave the country or don’t intend to depart, the spokesman said.
