Why playing the blame came can backfire....

President Biden had a fool proof plan to stop Covid in it's tracks. Now he points fingers!

When I was training managers, there seemed to be two types of people. Those who looked to solve problems and those who looked to figure out who to blame. The former could almost universally be counted on to end up being successful managers. The latter would generally be destined to fail if given the opportunity.

The same thing can be seen in almost any sort of situation where you measure success and failure. Sure a coach of a professional sports franchise can certainly spend some time figuring out what went wrong and who or what might be to blame for a short term failure. But ultimately that should only be done as a means to figure out how to fix the problems and come up with a strategy that is more successful. If all a coach does it point fingers at everyone else without offering something tangible, then being fired becomes a foregone conclusion.

The President and his minions in the Democratic establishment and main stream liberal media are working overtime to "blame" anyone and everyone but Biden for the current surge in Covid. The main "boogieman" is of course the "unvaccinated" which are being unfairly and incorrectly defined as "anti-vaxxer conspiracy theorists" convinced that the vaccine is carrying a microchip. I know a lot of people who are not vaccinated. I don't know anyone who is afraid that they are being given a microchip.

The facts are pretty simple. The only group slated to make the July 4th goal of 70% vaccinations was Asian Americans. Whites and Hispanics were on pace to come relatively close. But blacks were set to be barely breaking 50% in terms of being fully vaccinated by July 4th. But nowhere in the finger pointing or blame game will you see Biden and his cronies bring up any sort of issues with black people .(Which of course would be racist, right?)

Instead Biden and lackeys are wanting you to believe this is entirely a partisan thing. There is little proof that partisanship plays a big part in this, since no official numbers are tracking partisanship. What the CDC has established is that there are certain groups lagging behind. They include racial and ethnic minority populations, people living in rural or frontier areas, people experiencing homelessness, people with disabilities, people with substance use issue, people who are incarcerated, and non-U.S.-born persons. With the exception of rural or frontier people, most of these groups would not identify as conservatives.

Bottom line:

You don't fix problems by pointing fingers, and you actually exasperate your problems when you point fingers at the wrong people or wrong things. I have little doubt that there are people who are paranoid anti-vaxxers who believe that a microchip is being installed. I also have little doubt that they make up a fraction of the unvaccinated that is so small as to not really even cause a small ripple in all of this.

But when you focus on this (because of partisan political strategy) then you are not focusing on a real solution. A federal "mandate" might work if indeed the vast majority of unvaccinated people were just stubborn conservatives. But a mandate is not going to fix the problem if the CDC is right about who is actually unvaccinated. Heavy minority areas are not likely going to have much cause to enforce a mandate. Homeless communities are certainly will not. People in jail do not affect you or I. People with substance abuse problems, or people with disabilities are not likely to react to a mandate.

Now maybe Joe Biden is really stupid enough to believe the political rhetoric. If that is the case, then Covid will continue probably through this winter as he attempts to fix the problems that don't exist while ignoring the ones that do.

THE TRUMPIAN FAKE BLAME GAME

While Delta spreads, Republicans deflect and resort to Trump demagoguery

Robert Reich

Trump Republicans are falling back on their proven method of deflecting attention by blaming immigrants crossing the southern border

As America reaches the milestone of 70% of adults with at least one dose of a vaccine, the highly contagious Delta variant is surging.

Public health officials are trying to keep the focus on the urgent need for more vaccinations.

But with unvaccinated Americans – notably and conspicuously residents of states and counties that voted overwhelmingly for Trump in 2020 – succumbing to the Delta strain in large numbers, Trump Republicans are falling back on their proven method of deflecting attention by blaming immigrants crossing the southern border.

Last week, Trump issued a characteristic charge: “ICYMI: “Thousands of Covid-positive migrants passing through Texas border city,” linking a New York Post article claiming that “nearly 7,000 immigrants who tested positive for Covid-19 have passed through a Texas city that has become the epicenter of the illegal immigration surge.”

Trump has employed this racist-nationalist theme before. For years he fixed his ire on Mexicans and Central Americans from “shitholes”, as he has so delicately put it. He began his 2016 campaign by charging that “criminals, drug dealers and rapists” were surging across America’s southern border, and then spent much of the subsequent four years trying to erect a fence to keep them out.

Trump acolytes are adopting the same demagoguery.

As hospitalizations in Florida surged past 12,000 this week, exceeding a record already shattered last weekend, Florida governor Ron DeSantis accused Joe Biden of facilitating the virus by not reducing immigration through the southern border.

“Why don’t you do your job?” DeSantis snapped after Biden suggested DeSantis stop opposing masks. “Why don’t you get this border secure? And until you do that, I don’t want to hear a blip about Covid from you, thank you.”

The Trumpist media is quickly falling in line behind this nativist rubbish. In the last week, Fox News’s Sean Hannity has asserted the “biggest super-spreader” is immigrants streaming over the southern border rather than the lack of vaccinations. BULLSHIT

The National Review claims “Biden’s border crisis merges with his Covid crisis” and asserts that “the federal government is successfully terrifying people about Covid while it is shrugging at the thousands of infectious illegal aliens who are coming into the country and spreading the virus.” BULLSHIT

A columnist for the Wall Street Journal insists that “if Biden Is Serious About Covid, He’ll Protect the Border.” The Washington Examiner asserts “Biden hypocrisy endangers American lives on southern border.” Ben Shapiro’s Daily Wire warns of “Covid-Positive Illegal Immigrants Flooding Across The Border.” BS BS BS

Can we please stop for a moment and LOOK AT THE ACTUAL DATA? The Delta variant is spreading fastest in INTERIOR states like Missouri and Arkansas, FAR AWAY FROM THE MEXICAN BORDER.

It was first detected in India in December, and then moved directly to the United States in March and April according to the CDC.

GISAID, a nonprofit organization that tracks the genetic sequencing of viruses, has shown that each of the four variants now circulating in the United States arrived here BEFORE spreading to Mexico and Central America. International travel rather than immigration over the southern border brought the viruses to America.

Haven’t we had enough demagoguery and deflection? Haven’t Trump and his ilk done enough damage already?

The blame game must stop. Let’s be clear: The best way to contain deaths and hospitalizations from Covid is to get more Americans vaccinated. Period.

Well then Reverend...

Let's agree with what the CDC says are the groups who are least likely to be vaccinated. Concentrate on getting the minority communities, rural communities, homeless communities, prison communities, non-US born immigrants (likely illegal), people with disabilities, and people with substance control issues all vaccinated.

Stop playing politics and have the Democratic President start listening to science and stop listening to political advisors?

Or perhaps the groups that the CDC (and other other studies) have confirmed are the issue are not the ones you want to blame??

C.H. Truth said...

Maybe Reverend...

Instead of reading Politicalwire.com - you could look up the vaccination rates by race. You could look up the CDC areas where they discuss vaccinations by various groups.

I know it would come as a wild and crazy shock that actual studies with real data are finding that it's a variety of groups (that would tend to make sense) who are the most likely to be unvaccinated? I know you don't believe that it might be the heavy minority areas, or the homeless, or the rural people, or people with drug or mental health issues.

I know you truly want to believe that the unvaccinated are all crazy glue sniffing Trump loving conservatives driving around in their pick up trucks painted like confederate flags demanding that microchips are being installed so that aliens can take them away again.

Why would the CDC, or Kaiser, or John Hopkins or any of those groups "actually" know who is not vaccinated... when you can just read a liberal blog and know for sure!

Speaking of dementia

He's showing signs of mental disabilities.

It's good news that he's not the President.

It’s been a wild year or so for us all, so you’d be forgiven for thinking it went by in a flash and forgetting a few things. Yet, when ex-president Donald Trump appeared to forget that he was in charge when the coronavirus pandemic began last year, we couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.

The “confusing” remarks came as Trump spoke on the phone to Fox News’ Dan Bongino, during his Unfiltered programme on Saturday.

Speaking to the presenter, Trump asked: “Could you imagine if I were president right now and we had this massive attack from the coronavirus?

“I never liked to call it that. They have new names, then they have other new names, but it’s exactly what we had.”

We don’t need to imagine it, Trump, because it happened.

In one of the wildest moments during his presidency – and indeed, during the pandemic – the Republican suggested bringing ultraviolet light or “a very powerful light” inside the body to or injecting disinfectant to kill the coronavirus.

“I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. Is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning? It gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number,” Trump said.

In October last year, the then-president tested positive for coronavirus and was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

The New York Times claimed in February that Trump’s oxygen levels were in fact so low that doctors feared he would need a ventilator.

Then, on 19th January 2021 - his penultimate day in office - it was revealed that the coronavirus death toll for the United States had passed 400,000 people.

Twitter has since been left confused by how Trump could seemingly forget all of this:

For what it’s worth, though, we wish we could forget Trump’s presidency too.

Don't forget that windmills cause cancer

TDS but very important

The more information about the January 6th attacks and the months after the election day

New details of the drama at the Justice Department are fleshing out the record of Trump's final days in office after stunning revelations in a battery of new books about Trump's behavior during that tumultuous period. In the most extraordinary new twist, Washington Post reporters Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker reported that the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley feared that Trump might try to use the armed forces to stage a coup.

The patchwork of new details prove that Trump's unhinged behavior after losing the election was not only more extreme than it appeared from the outside. The emerging timeline also suggests that Trump attempted one of the most sweeping crimes against the Constitution in US history. He tried to use presidential power to overturn the election in Georgia and elsewhere. He imposed huge pressure on career officials to go along with his corruption. And he called a mob to Washington, which, incited by his lies, staged an insurrection against Congress as it was in the act of certifying Joe Biden's election victory. If Trump was still in power, new details of such abuses of power would undoubtedly merit a third impeachment.

The shocking disclosures of the past few weeks come as Trump appears to be at least preparing the groundwork for a future presidential campaign. The former President has already grievously damaged faith in the electoral system by convincing millions of his supporters that he was cheated out of power in a free and fair election that he clearly lost.

And the Republican Party's failure to permit any consequences for his assault on democracy -- and the efforts of many of its lawmakers and media propagandists to scrub history and to invent a completely new reality of the events surrounding the January 6 insurrection -- are effectively clearing the way for his political rehabilitation.

The latest developments also undercut the arguments of Republican senators who were unwilling to convict the ex-President in his second impeachment trial earlier this year over the Capitol insurrection. The idea that the process was unnecessary since Trump was no longer in power and could do no more harm is now being contradicted by evidence of his strongman behavior and his attempts to rebuild his political career.

That effort to avoid a full accounting of the events of January 6 is one reason why the work of the recently launched House Select Committee on the attack on the Capitol is so crucial. The panel's eventual report combined with recent work by the Senate Judiciary Committee offer the best chance to piece together an official record of one of the most fraught and tense transfers of presidential power in US history.

That a candidate who is guilty of such clear abuses of power and is possessed of such autocratic and anti-democratic impulses is a viable prospect for the presidential nomination of one of America's major political parties is a commentary on the extraordinary current state of politics. It also means that whether or not he eventually runs, Trump's legacy of epic political corruption will pose a dire threat to the democratic traditions most people saw as invulnerable to challenge.

I know that I'm wasting my time. But it should be here.

Should the officers resign immediately Scott

WASHINGTON (AP) — Members of the U.S. military would be required to have the COVID-19 vaccine beginning Sept. 15, under a plan announced by the Pentagon Monday and endorsed by President Joe Biden.

That deadline could be pushed up if the vaccine receives final FDA approval or infection rates continue to rise.

“I will seek the president’s approval to make the vaccines mandatory no later than mid-September, or immediately upon" licensure by the Food and Drug Administration "whichever comes first,” Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin says in the memo to troops, warning them to prepare for the requirement.

He added that if infection rates rise and potentially affect military readiness, “I will not hesitate to act sooner or recommend a different course to the President if l feel the need to do so. To defend this Nation, we need a healthy and ready force.”

Oh but Reverend... you do believe you know who isn't vaccinated. You've been told over and over and over by those you read that it's pretty much exclusively Republicans in Republican states. When of course nobody from any health organization is tracking the political affiliation of those who are vaccinated. So people are just sort of using this and that to make implications that cannot be actually proven.

You've repeated and pushed that here over and over and over.

But according to every known statistic, the vaccination rates are lowest with minorities (especially in high minority areas). Homeless, handicapped, rural, non-US born citizens, etc.... that is VERY CONSISTENT with all medical places tracking this.

There is a huge difference between Whites and Asians (who are both hovering around 70% or higher) vs Blacks (who have been wallowing in the 50-55% range). But you choose to ignore those statistics in favor of "implications" that it's a Republican problem.

Moreover... if you believe that pointing out that a Federal Mandate of an experimental drug without FDA approval would run into some legal issues (especially constitutional ones)... is some sort of Anti-Vax propaganda, then I guess you believe that being factual and honest is "disinformation and propaganda".

Generally "propaganda" isn't true, Reverend.

I feel like you don't care about fact or fiction here. You want to support a narrative whether it is factual or not? Guess what? A narrative that is false (but serves a purpose) is ACTUALLY propaganda. Pointing out the truth is never propaganda, regardless of whether or not it conflicts with what Big Brother wants.

THE BIDEN JUSTICE DEPARTMENT CAN’T SEEM TO PRODUCE THE EVIDENCE IT SUPPOSEDLY USED TO INDICT THE JANUARY 6TH PROTEST CASES.
Offering pleas to misdemeanors and dismissing felonies violates written DOJ policies

There has been a severe lack of urgency in how the Biden Justice Department (DOJ) has gone about complying with its post-indictment due process obligations owed to defendants charged in connection with the January 6th protests. Under federal law, the prosecution has no “rights” when it comes to criminal cases—all “rights” belong to and are owed to defendants, by both the Executive and Judicial Branches. It is the obligation of the Executive to afford defendants their rights in the manner in which investigations and prosecutions are conducted; it is the duty of the Judiciary to ensure that the defendant’s rights are protected from deprivation by the misconduct of the Executive until such time as a jury determines the defendant’s guilt.

The position adopted by the DOJ in its memorandum seeks to make the DOJ’s problems the problems of the defendants and the court.

A few weeks back, DOJ prosecutors handling January 6th cases began to file legal memoranda offering weak excuses for why they are unable to comply with their obligation to provide discovery consistent with the federal rules and the defendants’ right to a “fair and speedy trial.” These memoranda describe the undertaking that the DOJ now refers to as the “The Capitol Breach” investigation.

The documents tell a sad tale in which a poor, beset-upon DOJ is saddled with an overwhelming undertaking connected to the events of January 6th, made all the more impossible by the obligation to comply with the Constitution and court rules established to protect the rights of criminal defendants. Here is a passage from one such memorandum that was filed by the Biden Justice Department in the matter of United States v. Timothy Hale-Cusanelli.

[T]he government’s investigation into the breach of the United States Capitol on January 6th, 2021 (the ‘Capitol Breach’) has resulted in the accumulation and creation of a massive volume of data that may be relevant to many defendants. The government is diligently working to meet its unprecedented overlapping and interlocking discovery obligations by providing voluminous electronic information in the most comprehensive and usable format.

Identical memoranda have been filed by the government in multiple other cases as well, including in the matter of United States v. Nathaniel DeGrave, United States v. Justin McAuliffe, and United States v. Aaron Mostofsky.

Nothing in the passage above addresses the failure by prosecutors in innumerable cases to comply with “Rule 16 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure.” Under the Rule, a defendant is entitled, upon request, to production of certain evidence and information in the possession of the government. Two broad categories of material that fall within Rule 16 include any evidence the government intends to offer during trial to prove the defendant’s guilt; and any records, documents, items, etc., in the possession of the government that are “material to preparing the defense.”

It was Joe and Kamala on record as saying that they would forego a vaccination if Trump told them to get it? They were the ones creating doubt early on.

Do you ACTUALLY believe that those statistics are called into question if you don't hear Donald Trump out on the road pushing everyone to get vaccinated?

In doing so, WinRed, which Republican leaders forced on campaigns in the 2020 election, has kept secret the identities of the people and firms who work for it and provide its services.

“According to these experts, based on WinRed’s disclosures, the PAC appears to have potentially crossed the blurry lines of federal campaign finance laws.”

Instead of whining about Trump, how about Biden* knocking it off with the flooding of known covid-positive illegals invading our country?

The Texas border city of McAllen says more than 7,000 COVID-positive migrants have been released into the city since February, and more than 1,500 in the past week -- the latest example of growing concern about the potential impact of the border crisis on efforts to control COVID-19 in the U.S.

In a statement announcing the building of new temporary shelters to deal with a "rapidly escalating" surge of immigrants being released into the border city, McAllen warned of the release of thousands of migrants with COVID-19.

"Since mid-February of 2021 there have been over 7,000 confirmed COVID-19 positive immigrants released into the city of McAllen by [Customs and Border Protection], including over 1,500 new cases in the past seven days," the statement said.

The National Review is against bipartisanship. Ronald Reagan got most of his bills passed with some Democratic votes.

Republicans have helped put President Biden several steps closer to passing his top legislative priority in voting multiple times to advance an unnecessary and costly infrastructure bill that will pave the way for Democrats to pass their multi-trillion dollar social agenda. This is a pathetic surrender that has been built on a mountain of lies.

Republicans who voted for this monstrosity claimed that the infrastructure bill they negotiated would be fully paid for. It isn’t. They claimed it would narrowly focus on traditional infrastructure such as fixing roads and bridges. It doesn’t. They claimed it would help convince moderate Democrats to abandon Biden’s larger bill. It won’t.

Republicans have voted for a bill that will add to the deficits at a time when debt as a share of the economy is on track to break the World War II record this year, according to Biden’s own budget. And at a time when inflation is on the rise.

When a party is in the minority, their primary job should be to block the majority party from enacting bad policies as they work on building their own agenda. Far from satisfying this basic requirement for a modern political party, Republicans have been complicit in helping grease the wheels for Democratic efforts to transform every aspect of American life — on health care, child care, college, the environment, and so much more. To make matters worse, they have done so in the service of a president who just this week had his administration issue an order that the Supreme Court had already indicated was illegal, that Congress did not act on, and that he acknowledged had no legal basis. Biden has given the middle finger to Republicans, and Republicans have effectively responded with two thumbs up.

This is a reckless and irresponsible action from a policy perspective and malpractice from a political perspective. If Republicans lose big time in 2022, they have nobody but themselves to blame.

The deficit under Trump was a record high.

Hypocrisy award!

President Biden compared the infrastructure bill to the Transcontinental Railroad and the Interstate Highway System. But making that direct comparison only drives home how feeble America’s ambitions have become as its decay worsens. Both of those projects were not merely large but dramatic undertakings, which radically remade the American life, turned a vast continent into an interconnected whole, and of course improved life substantially for ordinary people.

Nothing in this bill will do that. Here’s a couple examples of what this new infrastructure bill will buy you, the American taxpayer, and what a similar amount of money might buy you in America’s foremost rival, the People’s Republic of China.

Taegan Goddard

Sometime between 4 a.m. ET on Tuesday and perhaps a more reasonable late morning, the Senate will convene for a final vote on the bipartisan infrastructure bill. Both parties expect it to pass fairly easily.

While that will be a major accomplishment — especially in our polarized era — it’s only the beginning of what promises to be one of the most exciting times in recent political history.

As soon as the infrastructure deal passes, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) will introduce a massive $3.5 trillion budget resolution stuffed with Democratic priorities which is expected to pass with only Democratic votes. The Senate will then hold up to 50 hours of debate on the bill (unless there is an agreement to cut it short) and enter into an unlimited amendment process known as vote-a-rama.

Assuming the bill passes, Senate committees will then be tasked with writing the actual legislation to implement the Democratic priorities outlined in the resolution. They will be given a September 15 deadline to complete their work. Anyone who has observed the workings of the Senate, knows this date is more of a suggestion than firm deadline.

If you work in the Senate, you won’t be spending much time at home for the next month or so. If you work as a lobbyist, this may be the busiest time you’ve ever had in your career.

It won’t be quiet on the House side either. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will be watching this progress because she’s promised to not bring the bipartisan bill to the House floor until the budget reconciliation package also passes the Senate. She’s working with an extremely thin majority and must keep her party in line. That means she’ll be actively involved in whatever materializes in the Senate.

All of this will happen as lawmakers finally head out for summer recess, during which they’ll hear directly from their constituents about the merits of these plans. If they’re received negatively, that could easily kill one or both plans.

And if that wasn’t enough, the two parties will need to agree on a short term-funding bill and raise the debt ceiling by the end of September. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) insists Democrats won’t get any Republican votes to do so.

Stay tuned for a very exciting few months.

James and I know that there are two bills.

The Senate $565 billion infrastructure bill will pass the Senate tomorrow.

More than 1 million people entered U.S. illegally in first six months of 2021
From January through July, the number totaled more than 1.1 million, enough to create the 10th largest city in the U.S.

In July, more than 210,000 people entered the U.S. across the Southwest border, an increase from 188,829 in June — primarily through the Rio Grande Valley and Del Rio sectors of Texas.

In the Rio Grande Valley sector, described as the "epicenter of the current surge," Border Patrol agents stopped roughly 78,000 people in July, up from 59,380 in June and 51,149 in May. These numbers exclude the tens of thousands who have evaded capture.

According to preliminary data from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the daily average encountered by Border Patrol was 6,779, including 616 unaccompanied children and 2,583 family units.

In July, roughly 19,000 unaccompanied children came through, surpassing the previously highest number of 18,877, recorded in March. In June, 15,253 unaccompanied children entered the U.S. illegally.

In July, the second-highest number of families in recorded history — 80,000 — came through, up from 55,805 in June. The highest number, 88,857, entered in May 2019.

Border Patrol officials say their facilities are strained with 17,778 people in custody as of Sunday alone, with the Rio Grande Valley sector holding 10,002.

July's preliminary total of 210,000 is the highest number of people recorded entering the U.S. illegally in over 20 years. Since January, Border Patrol has found that people have come from over 150 countries.

Trump is having remarkably little sway over how Senate Republicans are voting on infrastructure
Trump’s attempt to sabotage the infrastructure bill has been a miserable failure.

By Aaron Rupar on August 9, 2021 4:45 pm

North Dakota Republican Kevin Cramer courted Donald Trump on the Senate campaign trail, but is poised to ignore the president’s threat and vote for the infrastructure bill anyway. Justin Sullivan/Getty Images
Former President Donald Trump released a statement on Saturday threatening to withhold his endorsement from any Republican who supports the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill. Hours later, 18 Republican senators voted to advance the infrastructure package anyway.

It was just a procedural vote (the Senate hasn’t voted yet on passage of the bill, as of Monday afternoon). But the chain of events illustrates that at least when it comes to infrastructure, the former president’s threats don’t seem to carry the weight they once did.

This was on stark display on Fox News on Sunday morning as one of the Republican senators who voted to advance the infrastructure bill, Kevin Cramer of North Dakota, went on Maria Bartiromo’s show and was castigated for not toeing the line.

“Are you betraying the Republican base?” Bartiromo asked Cramer to open the interview. He responded by arguing that the bill addresses important national priorities.

“It’s not just infrastructure — it’s roads and bridges specifically. In addition to that, there’s ports, waterways, railroads, airports, broadband, all of which are critical to the movement of goods and services around the country and around the world,” Cramer said. “We couldn’t get North Dakota soybeans to South Korea if we didn’t have ports in the Pacific Northwest. and we certainly couldn’t get pasta in New York without trucks getting the wheat from the field to the bins and then off to the mills and the factories.”

Bartiromo later pressed Cramer to specifically address Trump’s threat. Trump said on Saturday that “Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill will be used against the Republican Party in the upcoming elections in 2022 and 2024. It will be very hard for me to endorse anyone foolish enough to vote in favor of this deal.”

But Cramer, who is up for reelection in 2024, didn’t back down.

James, I will post the link later.

But this sums up the problem, that we may not survive..

We cannot beat this thing.

The notion that we could literally stop the spread of COVID by locking down and vaccinating it out of existence was always a fantasy. As National Geographic recently noted, ‘only two diseases in recorded history that affect humans or other animals have ever been eradicated’. (Only one of these viruses, smallpox, was a danger to human beings; the other is a bovine disease.) Every other virus, from ebola to influenza to the bubonic plague, still exists among us; we’ve just learned to live with them, and to control them as best we can through inoculation, preventive measures, and treatment for those who get sick.

Until very recently, we lived with them relatively easily. Take the flu: every year, it ripples through the American population. And every year, people deal with it according to their own personal set of priorities and risk tolerances. Some are content to take their chances. Some get a flu shot to protect themselves or their loved ones. Some take additional precautions because they’re immunocompromised or otherwise at above-average risk. But every year, no matter what, tens of millions of Americans catch the flu. Some get very sick. Some die.

Yet we still don’t assign a moral element to the flu season — even though every person who dies from the flu caught it from somebody else. Nobody hisses through their teeth at the selfish irresponsibility of people who don’t upend their lives to avoid getting the flu; nobody tells you that you have an individual moral duty to stop the spread of endemic viruses, generally. Co-existing with other creatures is the price of admission for planet earth, and that includes the millions of microorganisms that have evolved over the course of millennia to survive by making us sick.

But COVID — and more specifically, the messaging around it from our authority figures — changed how we conceive of our relationship with viruses. All those months of being told to mask up, stay home, and keep our distance have instilled in a fearful population the seductive illusion of control. We’ve been led to believe that if we just care enough and try really hard, we can stop getting sick and save lives. Suddenly, the only moral position is to do everything within your power to avoid illness, no matter how extreme, no matter how much it disrupts your life or hurts your livelihood, no matter the brutal costs it might exact elsewhere. And if you get sick anyway? This is somebody’s fault. Someone, somewhere, did this to you.

‘The fact is, if you get infected, even if you are without symptoms, you very well may infect another person who may be vulnerable,’ Anthony Fauci said on ABC last week. ‘So in essence, you are encroaching on their individual rights.’

This is the flip-side of the delusion that we can control our way to zero COVID: the specter of the noncompliant villain who’s keeping us from getting there. Those who dissent, who express skepticism, who want to question the rules instead of simply following them? They’re not just asking questions; they are ‘literally killing’ people.

This type of rhetoric may have been a morale-booster amid lockdowns, mask mandates, and the COVID death count banners that have become part of the permanent landscape on every mainstream cable news channel. But it’s hard to overstate how unwise it is to inject blame into the conversation about an airborne virus. The pandemic has already decimated our ability to assess and tolerate risk, as our public health authorities keep offering mixed messages on everything from masking to school openings to the effectiveness of the vaccine. But comments like Fauci’s do something worse, injecting a toxic, corrosive element into the heart of the social contract. A society in which people fear and mistrust each other is a society that cannot function. This is what we risk.

She's not a Doctor...

Recent reports show that children are accounting for 15 percent of COVID-19 cases in the U.S., as the delta variant causes an uptick in cases around the country.

According to new data collected by the American Academy of Pediatrics, almost 94,000 COVID-19 cases in children were reported over a two-week period from July 29 to August 5, which the academy dubbed "a continuing substantial increase." The outbreak increased the total number of child cases by 4 percent.

"After declining in early summer, child cases have steadily increased since the beginning of July," the report added.

Since the pandemic began, nearly 4.3 million children have tested positive for the virus — 14.3 percent of total cumulative cases.

The new figures come as children's hospitals in COVID-19 hotspots have reported an increase in young patients battling the virus.

An Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock reported that of 23 patients admitted for COVID-19 under the age 18, 10 were in the ICU and five were placed on ventilators.

St. Louis Children’s Hospital in Missouri had more than a dozen patients come in with COVID infections last week,

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

It's not great in Call either.

COVID-19 hospitalizations have essentially doubled across much of California over the last two weeks — a troubling trend officials say illustrates the pandemic’s continued potency amid an ongoing surge in infections.

Increases of that magnitude have been seen in Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, state data show, straining healthcare systems to an extent not seen in months.

Those counties — California’s five most populous — both reflect and drive the wider trends playing out across the state. California as a whole has seen its total number of hospitalized coronavirus-positive patients swell from 2,981 on July 25 to 5,973 as of August

“The significant increase in hospitalizations is of great concern,” L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said in a statement. “With the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccines, we are hopeful that more people will get vaccinated during this time of very high transmission.”

Officials had warned it was likely only a matter of time before California’s newest wave of coronavirus cases began to wash over hospitals. Throughout the pandemic, increases in infections have generally triggered corresponding rises in hospitalizations roughly two weeks later.

But a few overlooked yet eye-popping details in Ball’s piece undermine Fanone’s public persona as the besieged D.C. undercover narcotics officer who donned an official uniform for the first time in 10 years to help rescue his colleagues from bloodthirsty Trump “insurrectionists” on January 6. Fanone has been on a nonstop publicity tour for seven months, stalking Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill and confronting his police union for its lack of support.

It all has a familiar ring; a photo posted last week by Alexander Vindman, now on a nationwide media blitz to promote his book about his role in Donald Trump’s first impeachment trial, was more than ironic. (Vindman is the national security officer who listened to Trump’s call with Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky and helped shape the conversation as an impeachable “quid pro quo.”)

,The pair illustrates how D.C. partisans will go to any extreme to destroy Trump and now, his supporters.

Until the development of a chickenpox vaccine in the late 20th century, the disease was a common childhood illness that could cause serious health problems in people who didn’t contract the disease until adulthood. More than four million people got chickenpox every year in the United States, resulting in more than 10,000 hospitalizations and 100 deaths. Since vaccinations began, those numbers dropped significantly.

The CDC reports that fewer than 350,000 people contract the disease per year, and that there are fewer than 1,700 hospitalizations and 20 deaths annually from chickenpox.

I had it in grade school I think 3rd grade.

It's not fun.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) sat down with CNN’s Dana Bash for the first episode of the new series Being…, where she admitted to occasionally checking out what Fox News is saying about her. Ocasio-Cortez has been a target of the right-wing network since very early in her political career, enduring attacks that paint her as something different than she actually is. But she believes that says more about the people creating that narrative than it says about her.

“Do you ever watch Fox News?” Bash asked. “Do you watch what they say about you?” “Not a ton. Every once in a while I do, and I think that it's really fascinating,” Ocasio-Cortez answered. “I actually find it to be really, really fascinating because it reveals a lot about the subconscious of folks that are crafting these narratives, and they very often are speaking to these very subconscious narratives about women, or about people of color, or about Latinos or Latinas, or about working-class people. You know, these caricatures that are developed are not really personal, they are societal.”

Ocasio-Cortez is unfazed by Fox News because she can look at their attacks academically, but that’s not the case when her Democratic colleagues fall victim to misinformation about her.

“The harder one is the critiques from within the party,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “That is the one — that’s the stuff that hurts. But the right-wing stuff doesn’t hurt.”

While Ocasio-Cortez may not be hurt by right-wing attacks, they come with a real-world danger in the form of countless death threats. She has even spoken about waking up sometimes in the morning and reviewing photos of men who want to kill her, just in case she sees them approaching. One man, who allegedly entered the Capitol during the January 6 insurrection, was arrested for threatening to “assassinate” Ocasio-Cortez.

Biden’s reconciliation bill would be a big fucking deal.

Democrats’ massive spending plan, explained.

By Andrew Prokopandrew@vox.com  Aug 9, 2021, 11:30am EDT

Top Democrats are aiming for a transformational bill that could enormously affect many Americans’ lives. W

Democrats are moving ahead on what could be the most consequential piece of domestic policy legislation in decades, and the planned centerpiece of President Joe Biden’s first-term agenda.

This coming megabill doesn’t yet have a name. It hasn’t technically been written. But on Monday, Senate Democrats released their current plan for what to put in it — and, well, it’s a whole lot.

Low-income families would get what’s effectively a “child allowance” — money to help raise kids — for longer, via an expanded child tax credit. Seniors on Medicare would get new dental, vision, and hearing benefits, as well as lower prescription drug prices. The coming bill would create new programs for universal pre-K, subsidized child care, free community college, and paid family leave. Some unauthorized immigrants would be able to get green cards. Then there’s major spending on clean energy, housing affordability, and much more.

It would be “the most consequential piece of legislation passed since the Great Depression,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said last month. In spending terms, it would be as much as $3.5 trillion — about triple the size of Obamacare, the law that then-vice president Biden famously called “a big fucking deal.”

Well BWAA, to spot the lie you first need to possess the intellect to follow a thread. Lacking that as we all know you do puts you at a significant disadvantage around here.

My advice for you today and every day would be for you to eat your pistol and end your miserable existence. It's the gift that you really should give to yourself.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) is asking hospitals to stop non-emergency medical procedures to free up space for covid-19 patients as a rise in new infections limits the availability of hospital beds to treat them.
Yet as Abbott touted the move as “taking action” to combat coronavirus cases that are now averaging more than 10,000 each day in the state, his order to ban mask mandates is facing challenges.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, a Democrat and elected official, said Monday evening he filed a temporary restraining order against the ban, declaring that the governor lacks the legal authority to impose it.
“This is about ensuring there’s adequate medical resources and hospital bed capacity to take care of people with [coronavirus] and any other condition that requires medical care or hospitalization,” Jenkins tweeted. A children’s advocacy group also filed a lawsuit challenging Abbott’s order on Sunday. A representative for Abbott did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Hospitalizations across the United States have soared past the peak seen in last summer’s Sun Belt surge, straining resources in hotspot states, such as Texas, which have resisted renewing pandemic restrictions. Current hospitalizations for the virus passed 68,000 nationwide on Monday — well over last summer’s high of about 66,000 — as daily new admissions approached 15,000.
In Texas, where the latest state data shows nearly 9,500 people are currently hospitalized with covid-19, Abbott announced that out-of-state health-care workers would come to assist. Intensive care units in Houston resemble a “war zone,” a doctor there told the local ABC affiliate. A hospital system there is preparing huge tents to treat an overflow of patients, according to CNN.
Florida and Louisiana on Monday also reported hospitalizations at all-time records. In Arkansas, Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R) said Monday that only eight ICU beds were open statewide and that the state hit its largest single-day increase in hospitalizations.

Twitter (TWTR) has suspended Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's account for one week following another violation of the platform's rules, the company said Tuesday.

Greene tweeted on Monday that the Food and Drug Administration "should not approve the covid vaccines." She also claimed the vaccines were "failing" and that they were ineffective at reducing the virus's spread.

In response, Twitter labeled the tweet as misleading and prevented Greene from tweeting for one week.
