I know this is like beating a dead horse, but the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. The mask mandates, limiting crowds, business closings were staples of exactly what didn't work the first time around. Vaccines are certainly a great tool, but we are getting close to 70% of our adult population as being vaccinated. That was supposed to be the magic number.

Moreover, the only people on the planet that does not acknowledge that we are starting to see significant breakthrough cases are the Biden administration and our CDC. Everyone else appears to accept that the vaccines are not a complete silver bullet. They will certainly work to help lower cases, hospitalizations, and deaths, but it will not drive the stake through the heart of Covid.
Yet, we listen as the Administration basically lies and says that our current issues with Covid and the delta variant is strictly an "unvaccinated problem". This is demonstratively false based on data coming in from everywhere. It would appear that between a quarter and half of all hospitalizations are now from the vaccinated in pretty much all areas that are now tracking this.
We also pretend that there is some sort of scientific evidence that the problem with the unvaccinated lies with politics. This is also demonstratively false. The actual scientific evidence provided through statistics of data collected by the CDC, John Hopkins, and others suggests that the unvaccinated problem is both racial and age. Blacks and young people are the actual problem according to the science. There is no science that tracks the political views of people getting vaccinated.
We need to expand our horizons here. The President promised that he had a plan. He certainly has not appears able to find it since becoming President. But there are treatment options, different testing methods, and other ideas that have been implemented through much of the rest of the world. Only the United States stubbornly holds on to what appears to be 100% politics based plans and guidelines.
It's not based on science, folks. If it was, we wouldn't be reacting differently than much of the world.

"If it’s going to be mandatory to work, I’ll have no choice,” said Kaleshia Sostre, a 27-year-old from Red Hook, Brooklyn, who teaches parenting classes to young mothers.
In Canarsie, Brooklyn, a 21-year-old college student, Justin Mercado, said Mayor Bill de Blasio’s recent announcement that dining in a restaurant would require proof of vaccination got his attention. He is now likely to get vaccinated.
But it's not just about work:
"I want to go on a date sometime and enjoy life as much as I can before this strain shuts us back down," Mr. Mercado said.
For better or worse, many skeptics decided to do their own research before deciding whether to get the jab.
"I’m out of compliance," said Ms. Shavuo-Goodwin, who is Black and lives in the South Bronx.
"I have done heaps of research looking for things that would make me confident and comfortable getting the vaccine, but honestly I haven’t."

Fellow QAnoners harassed the hospital with requests for the facility to treat the 64-year-old with the horse dewormer. According to the hospital, it received hundreds of emails and phone calls, which is perhaps unsurprising given that Michael Flynn (yes, the Trump lackey) and Lin Wood (yes, another right-wing Trump lackey) encouraged people to do so.

Healthy boys may be more likely to be admitted to hospital with a rare side-effect of the Pfizer/BioNTech Covid vaccine that causes inflammation of the heart than with Covid itself, US researchers claim.
Their analysis of medical data suggests that boys aged 12 to 15, with no underlying medical conditions, are four to six times more likely to be diagnosed with vaccine-related myocarditis than ending up in hospital with Covid over a four-month period.
Most children who experienced the rare side-effect had symptoms within days of the second shot of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, though a similar side-effect is seen with the Moderna jab. About 86% of the boys affected required some hospital care, the authors said.
Saul Faust, professor of paediatric immunology and infectious diseases at the University of Southampton, who was not involved in the work, said the findings appeared to justify the cautious approach taken on teenage vaccines by the UK’s Joint Committee on Vaccines and Immunisation.
The JCVI did not recommend vaccinating healthy 12 to 15-year-olds, but referred the matter to the UK’s chief medical officers who are expected to make a final decision next week. Children aged 12 to 15 who are particularly vulnerable to Covid, or who live with an at-risk person, are eligible for the shots.
In the latest study, which has yet to be peer reviewed, Dr Tracy Høeg at the University of California and colleagues analysed adverse reactions to Covid vaccines in US children aged 12 to 17 during the first six months of 2021. How reliable the data is and whether similar numbers could be seen in the UK if healthy 12 to 15-year-olds are vaccinated are unclear: vaccine reactions are recorded differently in the US and shots are given at longer time intervals in the UK. According to the UK medicines regulator, the rate of myocarditis after Covid vaccination is only six per million shots of Pfizer/BioNTech.
So far, UK children have not been admitted to hospital for Covid in large numbers and may not be at great risk of long Covid. While the recent Clock study found that up to 14% of children who caught Covid may still have symptoms 15 weeks later, levels of fatigue appear similar to those in children who have not caught the virus. None of the data on coronavirus vaccines so far provides credible evidence in support of boosters for the general population, according to a review published Monday by an international group of scientists, including some at the Food and Drug Administration and the World Health Organization.
The 18 authors include Dr. Philip Krause and Marion Gruber, FDA scientists who announced last month that they will be leaving the agency, at least in part because they disagreed with the Biden administration’s push for boosters before federal scientists could review the evidence and make recommendations.
The administration has proposed administering vaccine boosters eight months after the initial shots. But many scientists have opposed the plan, saying the vaccines continue to be powerfully protective against severe illness and hospitalization. A committee of advisers to the FDA is scheduled to meet Friday to review the data.
In the new review, published in The Lancet, experts said that whatever advantage boosters provide would not outweigh the benefit of using those doses to protect the billions of people who remain unvaccinated worldwide. Boosters may be useful in some people with weak immune systems, they said, but are not yet needed for the general population.
