Many were citing another statistician who suggested that the Powerline was incorrect in the way that they accessed the data from the Minnesota Department of health. I find no real fault in what this other statistician was reporting for the most part. In fact, I also suggested that age groups probably played a factor. But it is not realistic or statistically logical to claim that age groups can really explain both a situation where the vaccine is 90% effective but the vaccinated are dying at a rate of 2-1 over the unvaccinated.
The flaw was that the statistics used were largely apples to oranges.
The data that was reported by the Powerline (where there was more vaccinated dying than unvaccinated) was from a specific and very recent time period. The analysis done by the statistician was done over two time periods. One was a six month time period, while the other was a three month time period. I am also not sure that either time period in question included the very recent data provided by the Minnesota Department of health.
The questions and concerns about the vaccines are in the ability for the vaccine to hold the traits that keep us immunized. More and more studies and reports (pretty much exclusively using very recent data as would make sense) is showing a reduction in protection.
Make no mistake here folks. If the unvaccinated were still dying at the 9-1 ratio over the vaccinated that the statistician suggested, then it would be virtually impossible for that 90% to make up less than 50% of the total deaths, regardless of age category. The only way that would be possible is if the age group in question was considerably more than 90% vaccinated (which we know is not the case).
To put it in perspective, if you have 75% of a subset vaccinated and 25% unvaccinated, and the same amount of deaths occured in each group. Then the ratio of deaths for the vaccinated to the unvaccinated would be approximately 1 to 3 (which would make the unvaccinated three times more likely to die). That would mean that the vaccine is about 66% effective in preventing more deaths.
But in the case of that recent data from the Minnesota department of health, the amount of unvaccinated was actually higher than (not equal to) the vaccinated. In fact the vaccinated made up almost 2-1 over the unvaccinated. Going back to the previous paragraph, the only way this 90% vaccination protection still exists is if that high age group was upwards of 95% or greater in the percentage of vaccinated.
Is it still providing protection? Of course. Is it providing the sort of protection that we generally expect from a vaccine? Of course not. If it did, we wouldn't be looking at a need for boosters. The need for boosters is because of the fact that the vaccine effectiveness is dropping. That is just a fact.
Much of this can also be looked at through the broader scale that as we continue to see more and more people vaccinated, but the overall number of deaths are still higher than they were a year ago when nobody was vaccinated. At the end of the day, by all accounts the vaccine is not as effective as people hoped, the herd immunity is not happening as Fauci and others suggested and expected.
We can pretend otherwise (and maybe that will make many scared Americans less scared), but it's not the reality.

Unvaccinated Vermonters are still the people getting sick and being hospitalized at the highest rates. Infection rates among people in their 20s and children have also contributed to the most recent surge, Levine said.
Why is this happening?
Levine cited a few reasons for the increased positive case rate.
The highly contagious delta variant is still one of the main factors affecting cases in Vermont, as it has been for most of the year, Levine said. The variant has even been able to spread among vaccinated people.
"An infected person can spread the virus to five people or more, far faster than the original strain," Levine said. "This means it can spread faster than we can trace and alert contacts."
The state's early success during the pandemic has also turned out to be one of the factors in its downfall this year, Levine said. There were fewer Vermonters who got sick early in the pandemic, but this also meant that fewer residents were able to build up any level of immunity from having the virus.
On Monday Gov. Phil Scott announced that the state had reached its goal of vaccinating 80% of the eligible population. As a result Scott lifted all remaining COVID-19 restrictions that were imposed to deal with the pandemic.
Studies estimate that 3% or less of Vermonters had any immunity to COVID-19 before the delta variant hit, Levine said.
Vermont's success in vaccinating its residents quickly, starting with the oldest Vermonters, means immunity among the highest-risk people in the state is likely waning now, Levine said.
"As one of the oldest states, the percentage of Vermonters in this situation is higher than most other parts of the country," Levine said.
Finally, Vermonters are also traveling more and hosting visitors, often taking part in indoor activities, more frequently than they would have at this time last year. They are also wearing masks less often. These behavioral changes have also contributed to the current situation, Levine said.
"I know for many of us it can be frustrating to see Vermont looking so different from how we once did during the pandemic, but even after all this time, the virus is not something we have absolute control over," Levine said.

The number of people who refuse to get vaccinated cannot grow. Either you are vaccinated or not. You cannot go get vaccinated and then later decide to be a person who refuses to get vaccinated.
The number of vaccinated only goes up. Not down. We are now 60% vaccinated as a nation.
By that nature, the number of cases and deaths should be substantially lower with 60% vaccinated (adding in natural immunity and anti-body from those who have been infected) and in a perfect world with an infective vaccine, we should be fairly close to herd immunity.

Criminologist Casey Jordan reacted to the testimony of Kyle Rittenhouse on Wednesday by suggesting that the 18-year-old defendant displayed "sociopathic" tendencies.
Jordan spoke about the case during a break in Rittenhouse's testimony about the night he is accused of killing two victims and wounding a third during protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
According to Jordan, Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger has been "dogged" in his cross-examination of Rittenhouse.
"And really what he's trying to do is say, you put yourself into a position where this give-and-take -- and that's why we're in court -- resulted in the loss of life," she explained. "And to Mr. Rittenhouse's credit, he is approaching this, he is saying all the words correctly. He has been very well prepared. He's probably what we call autodidactic. He's taught himself everything he needs to say about the criminal law to fit his needs."
"But his demeanor is going to be his worst enemy," Jordan said. "He is coming across as so confidant, so arrogant, so unapologetic to almost be -- I would argue -- bordering on a sociopathic personality. Yet American citizenship always differed even from the Western tradition found in the Europe of the last three centuries. The founding of America saw an entire array of newly expanded rights, responsibilities and privileges for the vast majority of the resident population. This late-18th century new birth of citizenship arose in part because of an almost limitless supply of land, in part because colonial America lacked many of the European mainland’s traditions of class distinctions, primogeniture, peasantry and serfdom, in part because of the parliamentary traditions that Britain had implanted in North America, and in part because of the protections of the Constitution of the newly formed United States. Aaron Rodgers’ Alternative COVID-19 Treatment Supported By New Data From Regeneron
Regeneron’s monoclonal antibody drug used to treat COVID-19 may also be highly effective at preventing people from catching the virus in the first place, the company said Monday.
The company said in a release that its monoclonal antibodies reduced the risk of contracting COVID-19 by 81.6% compared to a placebo group in a long-term study. Until now, monoclonal antibodies have only been used to treat patients who have already contracted COVID-19, not as a preventative measure.
According to Regeneron, the protection lasts up to eight months after treatment. In September, the company released preliminary data showing that the treatment conferred protection against catching COVID-19 for at least one month.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers came under fire last week for his decision not to get a COVID-19 vaccine, instead opting for alternative treatments. One of those alternatives, according to WTMJ Milwaukee, was to take monoclonal antibodies in an attempt to build immunity to the virus.
Public health experts initially said the treatment could not reliably be used as a preventative measure, but the new data presented by Regeneron contradicts that. Rodgers also said he was using other unauthorized treatments after catching COVID-19, including Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine.
