but, but, but.. CRT is not being taught in school?

Missouri teachers told 'white supremacy' includes ‘all lives matter,’ calling police on blacks
Training materials for the Springfield, Mo., school district told teachers they could be engaging in white supremacy simply by insisting the English language be used or calling police on a black suspect, according to records released under a freedom of information request.

The materials, provided to Just the News, include a 40-plus slide training deck that proclaimed its goal was to train teachers on how to address "systemic racism and xenophobia" in the school district and to understand the difference between oppressors and the oppressed. Critics say the slide deck is part of a larger Critical Race Theory curriculum that parents are increasingly rejecting.
It included an "oppression matrix" that identified privileged social groups capable of oppression as including "white people," "male assigned at birth," "gender conforming CIS men and women," "heterosexuals," "rich, upper-class people" and "Protestants." The victims of oppression, the slide stated, included minorities, gays, transgender people, working class and poor Americans.

To be clear here folks. If you are still arguing that Critical Race Theory is not being taught in our schools, then you are a moron. Plain and simple. No way around it.

From your source.

”School districts like SPS are implementing critical race theory into required teacher trainings in an effort to condition individuals to see only skin color and then pit racial groups against one another,” Herman said. “It is illegal, wrong, and must be stopped.”

The training materials included a slide on cycles of oppression that listed institutions like churches, schools, television, medicine, business, mental health and the legal system as reinforcing oppression on "conscious and unconscious levels."

As you know I have changed my mind about CRT it should not be taught.

But it is just another example of how the Republicans are scared.

Too often they ban books about Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. and the fact that the civil war was designed to end slavery.

They argue it is about keeping States in power over the Constitution, including the Constitution decision Mayberry vs Madison...

Scared, alky? It was a Republican who gave Dr. King his own holiday.

I was wondering when you were going to bring up Marbury v. Madison out of context again, alky. It's been a while.

Our 13-year-old daughter was in the seventh grade at Sunset Heights Elementary when on one January afternoon in 2020, she brought home a photo that she had taken of the whiteboard.

Rather than being taught about the Civil Rights Movement, our daughter’s class was exposed to politically charged current events discussions about race, where much of the conversation echoed controversial critical race theory elements.

The Black Lives Matter movement was being lumped in with historical figures like Rosa Parks. That’s how we first became aware that there were some highly politicized and questionable lessons being taught.

We decided to become better informed. We started by reaching out to the teacher and asking her for a copy of her curriculum. When she ignored us, we got the principal involved. We sat down and had meetings with her; ultimately, the only thing we came away with was pushback.

Following the state's establishment of a website to report violations of a new anti-divisive-subject law, the New Hampshire chapter of Moms for Liberty tweeted that it would pay $500 to the first person to successfully catch a teacher breaking the new law.

Formally named the Right to Freedom From Discrimination in Public Workplaces and Education, the New Hampshire law bans specific kinds of teaching about race, racism, gender, and sexism, including:

A group is inherently superior or inferior to people of another identified group

A group is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously

A group should be discriminated against or receive adverse treatment

A group should not treat members of other identified groups equally

The law was incorporated into the year's budget by the state's GOP-controlled legislature, which used vague language to forbid the teaching of "divisive concepts," Forbes reported. When Governor Chris Sununu signed the bill into law, a majority of his diversity council resigned in protest, The Washington Post reported.

"Students, parents teachers, school staff... We want to know! We will pledge anonymity if you want," the Moms for Liberty chapter's account tweeted, quoting one of its previous tweets about the law's passage.

Moms for Liberty is a conservative nonprofit organization with 135 chapters across 35 states, totaling more than 56,000 members. The group mobilizes its members to oppose mask mandates and curriculum related to LGBTQ rights, race, and discrimination at school board meetings, The Washington Post reported.

Earlier in the week, the New Hampshire Department of Education created a new website for parents and students to file complaints against teachers for alleged discrimination using a questionnaire. Educators who are found in violation of the anti-divisive-subject law by the state's Commission for Human Rights, which evaluates whether complainants have the basis to file formal charges, could have their teaching license revoked, New Hampshire Public Radio reported.

The civil war was "designed to end slavery"? No. A better description was the civil war evolved into a war to end slavery.

Make no mistake. The institution of slavery and it's extension into new territories was the root cause of the rebellion.

But initially from Abraham Lincoln down to the radical Republicans the initial goal was to end the rebellion.

People like me built America

The legislation, the largest federal investment in infrastructure in more than a decade, is a central component of Mr. Biden’s domestic-policy agenda and marks a rare bipartisan policy win for the White House.

A roughly $2 trillion healthcare, education and climate-change package, another broad plank of Mr. Biden’s agenda, is still being debated by Democrats in Congress. House Democratic leaders say they expect to vote on the bill this week and send it to the Senate, where it is expected to face changes.

The infrastructure bill’s enactment is a political victory for the president, who is facing lagging approval ratings, the highest inflation in three decades and fears among some Democrats about losses in the coming midterm elections. Mr. Biden is scheduled to sign the bill at an afternoon ceremony at the White House alongside lawmakers, state and local officials, and business leaders.

The president and his senior advisers are laying plans to highlight the benefits of the legislation to the public in speeches and events in the coming weeks and months. Mr. Biden, who served as former President Barack Obama’s vice president, has said he believes the Obama administration didn’t do enough to sell its 2009 economic-recovery package.

President Biden signed the $1 trillion infrastructure bill into law on Monday afternoon, a bipartisan victory that validated his throwback theory of how to get things done in Washington but that did not deliver on the full scale of his ambitions for overhauling the nation’s transportation and energy systems.

Mr. Biden, who delayed the signing of the bill in order to throw an elaborate ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House, was joined by Senators Rob Portman, Republican of Ohio, and Kyrsten Sinema, Democrat of Arizona, as well as Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the majority leader.

“My message to the American people is this: America is moving again, and your life is going to change for the better,” Mr. Biden said at the ceremony, where state flags were lined up one after another outside the White House’s South Portico.

Mr. Biden said the infrastructure bill was “proof that despite the cynics, Democrats and Republicans can come together and deliver results.”

Mr. Biden was introduced at the ceremony by an ironworkers’ union official was a woman iron worker union chairman from Washington State. Roughly 800 people were on hand for the event, according to the White House.

This story destroyed your argument...

The GOP is waging a race war. We shouldn't expect them to care about Black kids. We should, however, demand that the rest of us place Black children within the scope of our conversation about education.

Republicans declare war over race in public schools — and Black kids get left out of the discussion

Magdi Semrau

November 14, 2021

Over the past year, Republicans have declared a war on how race and racism are addressed in public schools. This enmity was forefront in the gubernatorial election in Virginia, as well as battles over school boards across the country. In the past few months, at least seven states have banned so-called "critical race theory" from curricula. Over a dozen more are moving similar bans through state legislatures.

It would be naΓ―ve to expect more from the Republican Party. It requires an ongoing and bloody culture war to win. But there is another party with a role to play, who might be receptive to correction: the media.

Overall, the media's coverage of the battle over education has been, let us say, "deeply problematic." Reporting on the issue has overwhelmingly featured white parents describing the discomfort their children felt in discussions about racism.

Apparently, no one has thought it relevant to consider the experiences of Black children. This is regrettable as it's impossible to cover a story about race in education while amplifying exclusively white voices.

How would the coverage change if the media approached the topic with an eye to informing citizens? To answer that question, consider just a few relevant data points.

First, Black kids experience racism before they enter school.

Research has shown that Black children are aware of racism usually before age five. Black kindergarteners are far more cognizant of their own race than their white counterparts. They are also keenly aware of racism, though they can't always name the experience.

Black children's awareness of racism is not illusory. It is based on empirically demonstrated lived experiences that are shaped by interactions with peers and teachers. White teachers are more likely to direct Black kids to special education and less likely to recommend them to gifted classes, even when their performance is at the same level as their white peers. Punishments for similar behaviors are more severe, resulting in Black children being systematically humiliated, in addition to being more frequently detained and suspended.

As they age through the school system, Black children report feeling more and more isolated. It's not in their imagination. Even Black 5-year-olds are more likely to be described by their white teachers as angry or threatening than their white classmates. White teachers are more likely to perceive Black children as older than they are, which contributes to teachers responding to them in age-inappropriate ways. White children get comfort. Black children get punishment.

And I've only talked about preschool and kindergarten

Black children are often unfairly disadvantaged by their dialect and linguistic discrimination. When children enter primary school, they begin the process of learning to read. This requires mapping alphabetic visual symbols onto the sounds we use when we speak.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Many Black children are speakers of African American Vernacular English (AAVE), a dialect of our language that is just as rich and systematic as any other. However, because this dialect differs from the standard dialect, Black children who speak AAVE are told that they have a "home language" and a "school language."

The former has no place in the classroom and the distinction between "home" and "school" inevitably plays into linguistic stereotypes of AAVE as somehow inferior or sloppy. White children are rarely told the dialect they speak is not befitting of a school environment, even when their dialects also differ from the standard.

Further, Black students who speak AAVE are given little help in making the bridge from their dialect to the "standard" demanded of them. The systematic differences in their dialect are not noted; these differences are more commonly just characterized as "wrong." Consider how terribly confusing that must be for a 6-year-old child.

At this point, we've just talked about play and reading.

Despite the repeated falsehoods on the right, it is extremely rare for a curriculum to devote considerable attention to racism as a systemic and ever-present problem. Rather, the opposite is usually taught: that racism and racists are far, far away and that children are color-blind.

Combine such lessons — no racists here! — with Black children's empirically demonstrated experiences of racism and it's hard to imagine a more comprehensive and vicious form of gaslighting.

It is unsurprising many Black children develop chronic stress as a result of overt and covert racism. This chronic stress, in turn, has not just been linked to social, emotional and academic outcomes, but also to physical health. Black children experience elevated levels of cortisol throughout the school day, a physiological state that not only leaves children exhausted, but also impedes their ability to work.

Discrimination results in the prevalence of "stereotype threat" among Black children, adolescents and college students, such that if attention is brought to their race by a white educator, their performance on a task will decrease. Racism — from childhood to adulthood — is and will be a constant assault on both the body and mind.

The fact that Black people are so invisible from our public framing of the education debate shows just how intellectually impoverished the conversation is. They exist primarily as objects of discussion in the imagination of white Americans. A subject to debate, not people to listen to. This rendering of Black Americans as invisible is, perhaps, an argument for teaching more about racism in society, not less.

The GOP is waging a race war. We shouldn't expect them to care about Black kids. We should, however, demand that the rest of us place Black children within the scope of our conversation about education.

Someone who wanted to deliberately destroy the nation would do exactly nothing different from this -

If you want to force a population off of meat consumption because you think it’s harming the planet, you simply make things like meat too expensive. If you want to force people into electric vehicles because you believe they’re harming the planet, you let gas prices soar to astronomical levels, to the point where people don’t drive and opt for public transportation.

To the Democrats, this is the Biden sacrifice. He will be a one-term president, but in his one term, he’ll be able to transform the country in a way no politician who cared about his political future would ever dare to attempt. It’s a deal that a 79-year-old Joe Biden would take, if it meant the national press speaks his name in the same breath as FDR.

Joe Biden is not the future. He might not even be the present. That’s why his administration is governing like he has months to live, sweeping through a bucket list of progressive wishes. Doing so is already causing enormous harm, but in the end it will be worth it for the Democrats, and it will be worth it for Biden.

Chinese dissident Ai Weiwei, a famed artist and activist, warned Americans during an interview that aired late last week that they are already under the control of an authoritarian state, they just don’t realize it yet.

Weiwei said that the situation in China has become “more extreme, in terms of censorship, in terms of their tolerance to dissidents.” He later added that he was not hopeful for China’s future given the direction that China is going.

Later, when asked about authoritarianism in the U.S., Weiwei said “certainly, in the United States, with today’s condition, you can easily have an authoritarian.”

“In many ways, you’re already in the authoritarian state,” he said. “You just don’t know it.”

When asked how so, he responded, “Many things happening today in U.S. can be compared to Cultural Revolution in China.”

“Like people trying to be unified in a certain political correctness,” he continued. “That is very dangerous.”

The corrosive and complicated impact of the 45th President's poisoned legacy again threatens to blot out Biden's efforts to look to the future on Monday, as Trump's political guru Steve Bannon turned himself in at the FBI's Washington field office after a federal grand jury indicted him last week for ignoring a subpoena from the House probe into Trump's coup attempt. In remarks to camera, he told his supporters to stay focused, adding: "We're taking down the Biden regime every day." In an earlier indication of the Trump team's willingness to embrace authoritarian rhetoric in open defiance of a democratic choice made by voters, Trump appeared to defend rioters, some who chanted "Hang Mike Pence," after his vice president refused to throw the election. The comment was contained in audio of an interview conducted for a new book by Jonathan Karl released by ABC News.

Liberal twitter might LOVE Beto but in reality he's a much bigger gift to Republicans than to Democrats.

Last June, Robert Francis O'Rourke said, "I really love" the Democrats' idea of 'Defunding the Police.'

"In necessary some cases, completely dismantling those police forces"

And he's coming for your guns !!!

Beto O’Rourke married into money. Held local office to help his developer daddy-in-law take property from poor Latinos, like some cheap, predictable movie script. Ran for the Senate, lost. Ran for White House. Lost. He has no job, other than politics. Now he’s running for guv.

Many Black children are speakers of African American Vernacular English (AAVE), a dialect of our language that is just as rich and systematic as any other. However, because this dialect differs from the standard dialect, Black children who speak AAVE are told that they have a "home language" and a "school language."

Ever been to the West Virginia mountains? Eastern Kentucky, Ohio? Appalachia always had their unique vernacular English. But in order to understand each other children are taught one standard English with standard pronunciation, spelling, and grammatical rules.

If they are not taught a standard English, they are left behind and are handicapped in finding jobs and or succeeding in careers.

I get why he's delusional. What I don't get is why rich Democrat donors keep betting on this loser.

I remember reading that much of the AAVE actually came from Britain and was used by the uneducated extremely poor there who then migrated to the New World.

When you come to America it's fine to honor where you came from but you need to assimilate, something democrats frown on. They like to keep their base in their place.

Parents protesting 'critical race theory' identify another target: Mental health programs

Groups this year have voiced opposition to suicide prevention programs, mental health coordinators and social emotional learning, claiming they are being used to indoctrinate students.

Some parents have argued that young children don't struggle with mental health problems, despite data to the contrary.Eleni Kalorkoti for NBC News

By Tyler Kingkade and Mike Hixenbaugh

At a September school board meeting in Southlake, Texas, a parent named Tara Eddins strode to the lectern during the public comment period and demanded to know why the Carroll Independent School District was paying counselors “at $90K a pop” to give students lessons on suicide prevention.

“At Carroll ISD, you are actually advertising suicide,” Eddins said, arguing that many parents in the affluent suburban school system have hired tutors because the district’s counselors are too focused on mental health instead of helping students prepare for college.

“Some of these kids, they’re just trying to get through the day, get through compacted math, get through algebra, go to cotillion on Sunday,” Eddins said. “They are not thinking about these issues.”

Two days after Eddins made the remarks, Southlake Families PAC — a group that has fought to stop a diversity plan at Carroll — sent an email to supporters calling on the school district to “Leave mental health and parenting to parents.”

Christina Edmiston, a Southlake resident and mother of two, was outraged when she saw the email. Earlier that month, Edmiston had pulled her 12-year-old son out of the Carroll district after he reported thoughts of suicide after having been bullied by classmates for his sexuality.

“You can’t expect just to teach kids arithmetic and reading and look at their test scores and expect them to be decent human beings,” Edmiston said. “I personally cannot understand why a parent would not want their children to have knowledge of what depression looks like, what anxiety looks like.”

But that’s what’s now being debated in communities across the country. As school districts struggle to address accusations that administrators are indoctrinating students in progressive ideas about race, gender and sexuality, the same parents and activists making the claims have begun targeting school initiatives centered on students’ mental health and emotional well-being.

In Carmel, Indiana, activists swarmed school board meetings this fall to demand that a district fire its mental health coordinator from what they said was a “dangerous, worthless” job. And in Fairfax County, Virginia, a national activist group condemned school officials for sending a survey to students that included questions like “During the past week, how often did you feel sad?”

Conservative groups argue that social emotional learning has become a “Trojan horse” for critical race theory, a separate academic concept that examines how systemic racism is embedded in society. They point to SEL lessons that encourage children to celebrate diversity, sometimes introducing students to conversations about race, gender and sexuality.

Activists have accused school districts of using the programs to ask children invasive questions — about their feelings, sexuality and the way race shapes their lives — as part of a ploy to “brainwash” them with liberal values and to trample parents’ rights. Groups across the country recently started circulating forms to get parents to opt their children out of surveys designed to measure whether students are struggling with their emotions or being bullied, describing the efforts as “data mining” and an invasion of privacy.

Asra Nomani, a mother and activist in Fairfax County, said she supports school curricula focused on character development and emotional well-being, but she said SEL programs have been hijacked by progressives.

“It took a turn in the summer of 2020, after the tragedy of George Floyd’s killing,” said Nomani, a leader of Parents Defending Education, an activist group that criticizes school diversity and equity efforts. After that, she said, social emotional learning “became a vehicle for this quote-unquote ‘social justice activism’ and the indoctrination of controversial ideas related to race, sexuality and even gender and identity.”

The attention to social emotional learning in particular has been further fueled by loyalists to former President Donald Trump. The Center for Renewing America, which was started by a former Trump administration official, published a glossary that claimed that teachers and counselors were embedding critical race theory into social emotional learning programs. And state GOP lawmakers who tried to stop certification of Joe Biden’s win in the presidential election in Wisconsin proposed legislation that would outlaw social emotional learning and other educational concepts that they labeled as “state-sanctioned racism.”

School leaders across the country deny that the initiatives teach children to judge themselves or classmates based on their race. Many districts, including several in Georgia, Missouri and Tennessee, say they launched new social emotional learning programs in response to rising youth suicide rates in recent years and to help children cope with bullying and other emotional issues that can inhibit students’ abilities to focus at school.

“It’s absolutely terrifying to think that our kids could be out there without the access to the things that they need,” said Amal Anthony, a parent in Carmel who runs a Facebook group supporting school diversity and inclusion efforts. “Because while we all like to think that our kids are going to come to us first, sometimes that’s not the reality.”

Although youth suicides remain relatively rare, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 2,756 minors died by suicide in 2019, the most recent year for which data are available, making it the second-leading cause of death among children. Early CDC data from 2020 show that the number of children who visited emergency rooms for suicide attempts increased by 31 percent compared to a year earlier, feeding concerns among parents and pediatricians that more children have struggled with depression and suicidal ideation during the pandemic.

A recent report from the student safety company Gaggle, which monitors school-issued computers and tablets, said that among students at the 1,500 schools it does business with, nearly 9,000 threats of suicide or self-harm had been flagged as so serious that they required immediate intervention by school emergency contacts in the last academic year.

But the argument that social emotional learning and other school-based mental health initiatives are part of “a new-age nanny state” has been gaining traction in conservative media for months, including on Fox News. Columns in the National Review and The Federalist have suggested that social emotional learning has become “another vehicle for anti-white racism” and may soon eclipse critical race theory as the most debated phrase in education.

Some parent groups have advanced more extreme ideas. A national activist group, No Left Turn in Education, connected social emotional learning to the potential sexual grooming of children, calling it a “dangerous” philosophy that teaches students to put their trust in educators over the instructions of their parents. The group warned that even if social emotional learning doesn’t lead to “sexual assault by an adult,” it could cause children to question their gender identity and “will likely lead to some serious mental health struggles.”

As backlash over discussions about racism causes some schools to withdraw diversity and equity efforts, educators, child welfare experts and some parents said they worry that these protests could prompt a similar pullback from mental health programming.

“I am concerned, because the people that stand to lose are the kids,” said Karen Niemi, the president of the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning, or CASEL, an organization that helps schools implement the framework. “And it does worry me that we could risk prioritizing what’s good for kids because of a misunderstanding or, potentially, social emotional learning being used for any political agenda.”
