How many times have we seen this headline recently?

Biden approval hits new low as economic discontent rises, Post-ABC poll finds
President Biden’s approval rating has plunged to a fresh low, largely driven by discontent among his own base — as Republicans head into the 2022 midterms with historically high chances, according to a new poll released Sunday. Just 41 percent of Americans approve of the commander-in-chief’s performance, down a whopping 11 points since spring, the Washington Post-ABC News poll found.
Almost three-quarters of respondents (70 percent) said the economy is in bad shape, including 38 percent who characterize the state of the nation’s economy as “poor.” Biden’s overall approval of his handling of the economy sits at just 39 percent — and — and half blame the president directly for soaring inflation, according to the poll. Meanwhile, Republicans hold their largest lead in midterm election vote preferences in ABC News/Washington Post polls dating back 40 years.

Here is the worst part of Biden and those partisan and stupid enough to still support him. He's actually a likable guy by political standards, so this entire drop in his approval is competency, performance, and based on tangibly real issues. This is not someone upset about a late night tweet. This is people who simply now believe that Joe Biden is not up to the job.

This sort of drop in the polls, based entirely on performance, is exactly what Donald Trump and his team would have asked Santa Claus for. Nothing would remind people that being President is not really about decorum or whether or not you agree with his social media. Being President actually is a real job that has a ton of responsibilities. I have already personally run across a half dozen Biden voters who now feel like they misjudged things. They feel like after a few months of utter and total incompetence, they would rather go back to the misguided tweets and social media bravado.

It's an economic crisis that the whole world is having, empty grocery shelves and interrupted supply lines everywhere, much of it related to the Covid crisis..

But it's more Biden's fault than Trump's -- Trump who from the very beginning made the Covid crisis in the USA the leading Covid crisis in the wrold.

It frequently happens after natural disasters like hurricanes and earthquakes, and during times of national strife like WWII and the months after 9/11, BUT NOT WITH A MAN LIKE TRUMP IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

Regardless of their differences, people typically try to do what they can to help others when they’re facing dire circumstances EXCEPT IF THEY ARE SUFFERING UNDER THE SELF-SEEKING INEPT TRUMP-CAUSED LACK OF LEADERSHIP AND LYING MISLEADERSHIP.

“But the Covid-19 pandemic has not been a time of national healing and unity in the U.S. BECAUSE OF TRUMP.

TRUMP INDUCED debates over lockdowns, mask mandates, and vaccination only exacerbated divisions.

TRUMP polarized politics maimed the public health response to Covid.

The pandemic threw the spotlight on how tribal America has become BECAUSE OF TRUMP.

Trump needs the money!

Donald Trump’s family hotel company has reached an agreement to sell the rights to its glittering Washington, D.C., hotel for $375 million, according to people familiar with the matter.

CGI Merchant Group, a Miami-based investment firm, is in contract to acquire the hotel lease for the Trump International Hotel, which is located a short walk down Pennsylvania Avenue from the White House. CGI intends to remove the Trump name, and it has reached a deal with Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. to have the property branded and managed by Hilton’s Waldorf Astoria group, these people said.

The hotel is owned by the federal government, but with extensions the lease runs close to 100 years. It is housed in the former Old Post Office and it features some of the largest guest rooms in the capital.

The sale, which people briefed on the matter said is expected to close in the first quarter, comes as Democratic-controlled House committees have been investigating and holding hearings on potential conflicts of interest and emoluments issues surrounding former President Trump.

Former President Trump said that McConnell and McCarthy could have "fought harder" for Republicans.

"Now they don't have anything," he said in an interview with ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl.

While Trump remains in contact with McCarthy, he has shunned McConnell from his orbit.

Throughout former President Donald Trump's last weeks in office, he fought for ways to overturn the election results, baselessly alleging that the 2020 results were fraudulent despite repeated losses in court.

However, Trump has not only reserved harsh judgment for President Joe Biden and the Democrats who control Congress, but also key Republicans - including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, whom he has lambasted for months, and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California, who hopes to ascend to the speakership after the 2022 midterm elections.

For the same reason that the United States Supreme Court never made a decision on whether or not Trump colluded with Russia... or the same reason that the United States Supreme Court has not made a decision that says the Jan 6th riot was an "insurrection"... or the same reason that the United States Supreme Court has not made a ruling suggesting that someone in the Trump administration "hid" a bombing in Syria.

Because the United States Supreme Court doesn't get to decide everything. They only decide on things that are a matter of law or constitution and only things that are actually brought before them.

That being said... Several state Supreme courts ruled against Governors who used their own discretion to change election law under the pretense of emergency. The USSC did rule in favor of new election laws that outlaw much of this behavior that was used by Governors in many liberal states to bypass the local election laws (including very recently in Arizona). So the USSC when asked specifically about the legality or illegality of laws and actions, they have ruled in favor of the GOP neary everytime.

The fact that they have not overturned any elections is because they have no jurisdiction to really do so. They can only rule on what the laws state, not on how the outcome turned out.

In 2000... the misconception was that the USSC ruled that Bush won Florida, when in fact they just ruled that the Judicial ruling calling for a statewide recount was unconstitutional and ruled that it stopped.

Supreme Court rejects Trump election challenge cases
By JESSICA GRESKO
February 22, 2021

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a handful of cases related to the 2020 election, including disputes from Pennsylvania that had deeply divided the justices just before the election.

The cases the justices rejected involved election challenges filed by former President Donald Trump and his allies in five states President Joe Biden won: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Other than two Pennsylvania disputes, the justices’ decision not to hear the cases was unsurprising but ends months of legal wrangling. The court had previously taken no action in those cases and in January had turned away pleas that the cases be fast-tracked, again suggesting the justices were not interested in hearing them.

In fact the election reform law are only unpopular with Democrat politicians and party machine operatives. Why is that Elmer.

Speaking of amassing FACTS, go to Wiki and read about Bannon starting here:

Federal fraud indictment
On August 20, 2020, a federal grand jury indictment was unsealed against Bannon and three others, charging them with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering. Each charge has a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison upon conviction. Federal prosecutors of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York allege that Bannon, United States Air Force veteran Brian Kolfage and the two other defendants used funds received from the We Build the Wall fundraising campaign, marketed to support the building of a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico, in a way which was "inconsistent" with how they were advertised for use to the public.
According to the indictment, donations were collected through a GoFundMe campaign that was launched in December 2018.

Bannon promoted the project until the day before the indictment, saying "You've been the leader of this, assisting President Trump in building this wall in these tough areas" in his War Room: Pandemic podcast.

Trump distanced himself from Bannon but then later pardoned him.
However, he can't pardon him for state charges that have been lodged against him.

But just keep reading that wiki article. It gets sleazier and sleazier ending up like this:

Subpoena by U.S. House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack
On September 23, 2021, the U.S. House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack subpoenaed Bannon, ordering him to appear on October 14. His lawyers gave the Committee advance notice that he would not comply. After he did not appear, the House of Representatives voted to hold him in criminal contempt of Congress and to refer him to the Justice Department. This was initiated by the nine-member Committee's unanimous vote on October 19, followed by the full House of Representatives which voted 229–202, with all 220 Democrats and 9 Republicans in favor of the resolution, on October 21. He was indicted by a federal grand jury on November 12, 2021 on two criminal contempt charges: one count of not providing documents, one count of not testifying. If convicted, he could serve up to one year in jail for each count.

Political beliefs
Bannon told journalist Michael Lewis in February 2018, "We got elected on Drain the Swamp, Lock Her Up, Build a Wall. This was pure anger. Anger and fear is what gets people to the polls." He added, "The Democrats don't matter. The real opposition is the media. And the way to deal with them is to flood the zone with shit."

Apparently Scottie alias Chtruth has difficulty with the English language:

Donald Trump stood no chance in front of a conservative Supreme Court. Here's why.

Richard Wolf
USA TODAY

WASHINGTON – The Supreme Court's refusal to help Donald Trump change the result of the 2020 election should come as no surprise for the very reason the president hoped to win the case:
The court is conservative.

That means the three justices who owe their seats on the nation's highest bench to Trump, as well as others nominated by Republican presidents, profess adherence to the Constitution and the precise text of federal statutes. They don't just make stuff up.

So when Texas, backed by Trump and a cadre of Republican state attorneys general and members of Congress, asked the court to block election results from Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, it stood no chance of prevailing.

"The hallmark of conservative jurisprudence is respect for established law," said Michael McConnell, director of the constitutional law center at Stanford Law School and a former federal appeals court judge appointed by President George W. Bush. "No one should be surprised that the justices, like the Trump-appointed lower court judges in all these election cases, followed the law."

Associate Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh were President Trump's first two nominees to the Supreme Court.
The law took them invariably in one direction, for a number of reasons:

• Texas lacked legal standing because it "has not demonstrated a judicially cognizable interest in the manner in which another state conducts its elections," the court said in its brief order Friday.

• The state sought to leapfrog lower courts by framing the case as one in which the Supreme Court has "original jurisdiction."

• Principles of federalism dictate that states decide for themselves how to run their elections.

• Governors already had certified the votes, making the challenge tardy, if not moot.

• Millions of voters could have been disenfranchised if their legally cast ballots were discounted.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

"Texas is asking the Supreme Court to take up a case in which it would have to find its own facts, in which it isn’t remotely obvious why Texas is the right plaintiff, and in which time is of the essence," said Stephen Vladeck, an expert on federal courts at the University of Texas School of Law. "The posture in which the factual and legal arguments were presented necessarily made it impossible for those arguments to be taken seriously, even by the justices who might otherwise have been inclined to do so."

Associate Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, for instance, have urged the court to exercise more often its authority to hear disputes between states without requiring them to start in lower courts. But the Supreme Court still has discretion to deny outlandish requests.

A failed President and businesses man.

Former President Donald Trump has a $170 million bank loan coming due in 2024 from Deutsche Bank for his Washington, D.C. property. But according to the Wall Street Journal, Trump has found a way out. He's selling it to Hilton.

Trump leased the hotel for $250,000 a month for the next 60 years, but that lease will be broken with the agreement to fork over the property after years of profit losses.

Trump signed the lease Aug. 25, 2013, and began developing it in 2014, which would mean he would pay about $3 million a year for a total of $24 million. He also got $40 million in government tax credits for the hotel. He pledged to spend $200 million in developing it and it's unclear how much operations cost for the hotel.

While the Wall Street Journal reported that the hotel generated $150 million in revenue over the four years of Trump's presidency, it doesn't appear that revenue was enough to cover the operations and interest payments on the Deutsche Bank loan.

According to Forbes, "the property has been struggling to make money for years. Operating profits (measured as earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) for the 12 months ending Aug. 31, 2017, appeared to be negative $4.3 million, according to an analysis of the financial documents released by the House Committee on Oversight and Reform. The next year, things improved, but the Trumps still only squeezed out $900,000 of operating profits on $52.3 million in revenue, and they lost money after paying interest on their debt. A year after that, the property bled more, $2.1 million on an operating basis. Things got worse when Covid struck. In the year that ended Aug. 31, 2020, the hotel produced an operating loss of $8.6 million. There are a lot of ways to lose money every year that don't require investing $370 million upfront."

A report Washington Post reporter David Fahrenthold last week revealed that the D.C. hotel isn't Trump's only problem. Many of his properties are hemorrhaging money.

"It was losing millions and millions of dollars," Fahrenthold told the Post Reports podcast on Wednesday. "I think they recognize that you cannot make it in Washington, especially with as expensive a hotel as that is, as big of a loan as that hotel has, you can't make it on one slice of the pie. You can't make it just on Republicans."

"It's not enough," he said. "To make that kind of hotel at that luxury level work in Washington, you need everybody. You need embassies and you need conventions. You can't have a polarized audience. So that's them admitting, we can't make this work. ... It's the kind of place that could do really well — it's got a great location — but not (with the) Trump (name).'"

Ivermectin is a drug typically used to treat parasitic infections in livestock like horses. Health agencies like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration have repeatedly warned that the drug can cause adverse side effects in humans, like dizziness and nausea. In some cases, it can lead to overdose and death, as well as hallucinations and seizures.

On a recent episode of his podcast, Rick Wiles, a pastor and self-described “citizen reporter,” endorsed a conspiracy theory: that COVID-19 vaccines were the product of a “global coup d’état by the most evil cabal of people in the history of mankind.”

“It’s an egg that hatches into a synthetic parasite and grows inside your body,” Wiles said on his Oct. 13 episode. “This is like a sci-fi nightmare, and it’s happening in front of us.”

Wiles belongs to a group of hosts who have made false or misleading statements about COVID-19 and effective treatments for it. Like many of them, he has access to much of his listening audience because his show appears on a platform provided by a large media corporation.

Wiles' podcast is available through iHeart Media, an audio company based in San Antonio that says it reaches 9 out of 10 Americans each month. Spotify and Apple are other major companies that provide significant audio platforms for hosts who have shared similar views with their listeners about COVID-19 and vaccination efforts, or have had guests on their shows who promoted such notions.

Scientific studies have shown that vaccines will protect people against the coronavirus for long periods and have significantly reduced the spread of COVID-19. As the global death toll related to COVID-19 exceeds 5 million — and at a time when more than 40% of Americans are not fully vaccinated — iHeart, Spotify, Apple and many smaller audio companies have done little to rein in what radio hosts and podcasters say about the virus and vaccination efforts.

Karl's book, "Betrayal: The Final Act of the Trump Show," details how after the Capitol attack, McConnell told aides he wanted the top Congressional leaders to draft a letter telling the then-sitting president that he was not welcome to attend the inauguration.

The events eventually prompted Trump to send off what would be his final tweet before being banned by the social media platform, according to "Betrayal," set to be released on Nov. 16.

No wonder Republicans use the spooky, ill-defined “critical race theory” rather than say “teach about race in American history.”

Certainly, cultural issues and animosity exists in schools. The good news is that the vast majority of Americans approve reasonable covid-19 protections and accurate history instruction. The bad news is that Republicans are attempting to weaponize these issues, and worse, the media is helping them do it. Don't Let Leftists Gaslight You on Critical Race Theory
...
Although this summary denial of CRT by people like Devega is frustrating, the reality is that Critical Race Theory is being effectively smoked out. There was a time not so long ago when people actually tried to defend the use of CRT, like Marc Lamont Hill during his interview with Christopher Rufo.

But now the playbook has changed. CRT is simply too toxic even to try to defend. This is why the National Education Association scrubbed Business Item #39 — which supported the use of CRT in K–12 schools across America — from its website in July. This is why the Biden administration removed the link to University of Georgia professor Bettina Love's Abolitionist Teaching Network from the Department of Education's website, claiming that the connection to the radical group (which aims to "disrupt Whiteness" in schools) was a mistake.

Defending CRT would be to defend the use of Robin DiAngelo's White Fragility in teacher training from coast to coast, a book that teaches that all whites are inherently racist and privileged and perpetuate white supremacy by default. It would be to defend the use of Ibram X. Kendi's How to Be an Antiracist, a book that polarizes Americans into tribal camps based on skin color, deeming one group "oppressors" and the other group "oppressed."

It would be to defend the use of Montclair State University professor Bree Picower's book, Reading, Writing, and Racism: Disrupting Whiteness in Teacher Education and the Classroom or the use of ultra-woke artist Anastasia Higginbotham's Not My Idea: A Book about Whiteness, which teaches elementary school children that "whiteness is a bad deal" and stereotypes police as racist killers.

It would be to defend the "Color Line" exercise, a teacher training activity developed by Glenn Singleton's Pacific Educational Group, which aims to help white educators identify their so-called "white privilege" so they can understand how this privilege is perpetuating white supremacy culture in K–12 schools as well as the rest of America. According to University of Alabama history professor David Beito, this exercise is a Maoist-style scheme that "publicly humiliate[s] dissenters by having them wear signs around their necks expressing shame for their 'incorrect thoughts.'"

It would be to support forcing third-graders to deconstruct their racial identities and rank themselves according to their power and privilege. It would be to teach educators that babies show the first signs of racism at three months old and that White children "remain strongly biased in favor of Whiteness" by age five. It would be to argue that the United States was founded on a Eurocentric, White supremacist, capitalist, patriarchal, homophobic, and anthropocentric paradigm brought from Europe. It would require teachers to locate themselves on an "oppression matrix" and accept that White heterosexual Protestant males are inherently oppressive and therefore must atone for their "covert White supremacy."

The judge said he would allow the jury to consider the question and give them a provocation instruction.

That instruction to the jury says the following:

815 PRIVILEGE: SELF-DEFENSE: NOT AVAILABLE TO ONE WHO PROVOKES AN ATTACK: REGAINING THE PRIVILEGE — § 939.48(2)

[ADD THE FOLLOWING TO WIS JI‑CRIMINAL 800, 801, OR 805 WHEN SUPPORTED BY THE EVIDENCE.]

Provocation

You should also consider whether the defendant provoked the attack. A person who engages in unlawful conduct[1] of a type likely to provoke others to attack, and who does provoke an attack, is not allowed to use or threaten force in self‑defense against that attack.

[USE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPHS THAT ARE SUPPORTED BY THE EVIDENCE.]

[However, if the attack which follows causes the person reasonably to believe that he or she is in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm, he or she may lawfully act in self‑defense. But the person may not use or threaten force intended or likely to cause death unless he or she reasonably believes he or she has exhausted every other reasonable means to escape from or otherwise avoid death or great bodily harm.]

[A person who provokes an attack may regain the right to use or threaten force if the person in good faith withdraws from the fight and gives adequate notice of the withdrawal to his assailant.]

[A person who provokes an attack whether by lawful or unlawful conduct with intent to use such an attack as an excuse to cause death or great bodily harm to another person is not entitled to use or threaten force in self‑defense.]

So you can see this makes the case much more difficult for the defense if the jury buys this provocation argument — it could effectively take away self-defense as an argument except under the above strictures. Previously it looked like a walk-away acquittal but if the prosecution sells the jury on this, Rittenhouse could potentially get a very bad result.

“Ghost guns — untraceable firearms without serial numbers, assembled from components bought online — are increasingly becoming the lethal weapon of easy access for those legally barred from buying or owning guns around the country.

“They acknowledge the problems presented by the unpredictable nature of the pandemic and an uneven economic recovery, but fear that the administration’s tendency to downplay the issues has only made things worse.”

Biden to Sign Infrastructure Bill

"President Joe Biden will have his a big moment today — on the 299th day of his presidency. Biden will sign the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill at the White House at 3 p.m. It’s a victory for a president and a Democratic Party that truly needs one.

“But in order to notch the full “W,” Biden needs to strap in and prepare for the mess that is the Build Back Better Act. There will be several weeks more of this drama. We still may be talking about this legislation in January, in fact.”

Republicans Gain Heavy House Edge in 2022
6:25 am EST
“A year before the polls open in the 2022 midterm elections, Republicans are already poised to flip at least five seats in the closely divided House thanks to redrawn district maps that are more distorted, more disjointed and more gerrymandered than any since the Voting Rights Act was passed in 1965.

“The rapidly forming congressional map, a quarter of which has taken shape as districts are redrawn this year, represents an even more extreme warping of American political architecture, with state legislators in many places moving aggressively to cement their partisan dominance.

“The flood of gerrymandering, carried out by both parties but predominantly by Republicans, is likely to leave the country ever more divided by further eroding competitive elections and making representatives more beholden to their party’s base.”

Steve Mnuchin called Pompeo about invoking the 25th Amendment after Jan 6 riot: ABC Karl

Tom Boggioni

November 15, 2021

Appearing on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Monday, ABC's Jonathan Karl revealed that former Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin put in a call to former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on January 6th about invoking the 25th Amendment and removing Donald Trump from office.

Speaking with host Jonathan Lemire, Karl explained, "I learned rock-solid sourcing on this. I learned that Steven Mnuchin had a conversation with Mike Pompeo on the evening of January 6th. And I learned that Mnuchin had several conversations about the 25th Amendment and further, that Pompeo actually asked for a legal analysis of the 25th Amendment and how it would work."

"The idea quickly was jettisoned -- you had on January 7th cabinet members resign, DeVos resign, the labor secretary resign," he continued. "It became apparent that the 25th Amendment was not going to work. It would not be quick enough and it would be subject to legal challenges, but in the hours after the riot, there were high-level conversations about this."

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Democrat Beto O’Rourke is running for governor of Texas, pursuing a blue breakthrough in America’s biggest red state after his star-making U.S. Senate campaign in 2018 put him closer than anyone else in decades.

O'Rourke's announcement Monday kicks off a third run for office in as many election cycles. He burst into the 2020 Democratic presidential primary as a party phenomena but dropped out just eight months later as money and fanfare dried up.

“It's not going to be easy. But it is possible," O'Rourke said in an interview with The Associated Press ahead of his announcement. “I do believe, very strongly, from listening to people in this state that they’re very unhappy with the direction that (Gov.) Greg Abbott has taken Texas.”

O'Rourke's return sets up one of 2022’s highest-profile — and potentially most expensive — races for governor. Abbott, a Republican, is seeking a third term and has put Texas on the vanguard of hard-right policymaking in state capitals and emerged as a national figure. A challenge from O'Rourke, a media-savvy former congressman with a record of generating attention and cash, could tempt Democrats nationwide to pour millions of dollars into trying — again — to flip Texas.

Still, O'Rourke is coming back an underdog. Although the state's growing population of Latino, young and college-educated voters is a good for Democrats, the party's spending blitz in the 2020 presidential election left them with nothing.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Steve Bannon, a longtime ally of former President Donald Trump, surrendered to federal authorities on Monday to face contempt charges after defying a subpoena from a House committee investigating January’s insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Bannon was taken into custody Monday morning and is expected to appear in court later in the afternoon. The 67-year-old was indicted on Friday on two counts of criminal contempt – one for refusing to appear for a congressional deposition and the other for refusing to provide documents in response to the committee’s subpoena.

The indictment came as a second expected witness, former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, defied his own subpoena from the committee on Friday and as Trump has escalated his legal battles to withhold documents and testimony about the insurrection.

If the House votes to hold Meadows in contempt, that recommendation would also be sent to the Justice Department for a possible indictment.

Officials in both Democratic and Republican administrations have been held in contempt by Congress, but criminal indictments for contempt are exceedingly rare.

a large chunk of it went to reducing the ultra-rich tax bills

SALT tax deductions are going to over $70,000 dollars a year. I think that accounts for almost half a trillion of the "infrastructure". The tax savings alone for billionaires is more than many Americans earn in a year

Guess the billionaires can build new driveways to their mansions.

And hire some illegal aliens to do the work

The bill calls for investing $110 billion for roads, bridges and major infrastructure projects....

probably doesn't include the billionaires driveways...

And his CDC recommended asymptomatic vaccinated people not being testing for Covid

I wonder what that did to the statistics ???

Isn't Covid so dangerous we want to know all people who have Covid

Terrifying for American democracy’: is Trump planning for a 2024 coup?

Republicans are vying for critical positions in many states – from which they could launch a far more effective power-grab than Trump’s 2020 effort

by Ed Pilkington

Sun 14 Nov 2021 01.00 EST

At 1.35pm on 6 January, the top Republican in the US Senate, Mitch McConnell, stood before his party and delivered a dire warning.

If they overruled the will of 81 million voters by blocking Joe Biden’s certification as president in a bid to snatch re-election for the defeated candidate, Donald Trump, “it would damage our Republic forever”.

Five minutes before he started speaking, hundreds of Trump supporters incited by the then president’s false claim that the 2020 election had been stolen broke through Capitol police lines and were storming the building. McConnell’s next remark has been forgotten in the catastrophe that followed – the inner sanctums of America’s democracy defiled, five people dead, and 138 police officers injured.

He said: “If this election were overturned by mere allegations from the losing side, our democracy would enter a death spiral. We’d never see the whole nation accept an election again. Every four years would be a scramble for power at any cost.”

‘A roadmap for a coup’: inside Trump’s plot to steal the presidency

Eleven months on, McConnell’s words sound eerily portentous. What could be construed as an anti-democratic scramble for power at any cost is taking place right now in jurisdictions across the country.

Republican leaders loyal to Trump are vying to control election administrations in key states in ways that could drastically distort the outcome of the presidential race in 2024. With the former president hinting strongly that he may stand again, his followers are busily manoeuvring themselves into critical positions of control across the US – from which they could launch a far more sophisticated attempt at an electoral coup than Trump’s effort to hang on to power in 2020.

Brandon-flation hit's those hardest who can least afford it. But hey, as long as billionaires have their SALT deduction restored...

It "will consume the entire annual cost of living adjustment (COLA) of Social Security recipients with the very lowest benefits, of about $365 per month," said Mary Johnson, a Social Security and Medicare policy analyst for The Senior Citizens League, an advocacy group. "Social Security recipients with higher benefits should be able to cover the $21.60 per month increase, but they may not wind up with as much left over as they were counting on."

The Trumpet Wisconsin judge on Monday dismissed a weapons charge against Kyle Rittenhouse, the teen who fatally shot two people and wounded a third during a protest in Kenosha last year.

Moments before closing arguments were set to start, Judge Bruce Schroeder dismissed one count of illegal possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18.

The misdemeanor, punishable by up to nine months in jail, was considered one of the stronger counts against Rittenhouse. No one disputes he was 17 last year when he walked the streets of Kenosha armed with an AR-15-style weapon.

But the judge cited an exception within the law, dealing with length of the barrel and hunting, for dismissing that count.

Rittenhouse, now 18, still faces five other charges stemming from the Aug. 25, 2020, shootings.

He is accused of intentional homicide in the slaying of Anthony Huber, 26, and reckless homicide in the death of Joseph Rosenbaum, 36.

Rittenhouse has also been charged with attempted intentional homicide in the shooting of Gaige Grosskreutz, a paramedic from suburban Milwaukee who was volunteering his service at the protest.

Kyle Rittenhouse trial closing arguments begin Monday

The victims and Rittenhouse were in the streets of Kenosha as social justice demonstrations erupted following the police shooting of Jacob Blake.

Huber and Rosenbaum were not armed when Rittenhouse shot them, but Grosskreutz, 27, came toward the suspect with a pistol in hand when the teen from Antitoch, Illinois, opened fire.

Prosecutors said Rittenhouse, 17 at the time, had no legal right to have an AR-15-style weapon and wasn't justified in the shootings.

The defense, meanwhile, has been arguing that Rittenhouse was defending himself on a chaotic, violent night.
