If you do not sunset the benefits and tax breaks after five years, the ten year bill will add 3 trillion dollars to the national debt.
| Schumer demands CBO is wrong and that extra costs would be "offset" but doesn't tell anyone how or why the extra costs are "offset" |
This estimate falls roughly in the middle of a couple other estimates on the true cost of the Build Back Broke bill. While it probably shouldn't be the case, the Congressional Budget Office probably holds the most credibility to most Americans. Either way, I would argue that the 3 trillion is the rock bottom floor for how much this fiasco would actually cost.
Democrats are arguing that this is not the bill that has passed the House or the bill being presented before the Senate or the bill that the President would sign. All is true, but that bill is an accounting gimmick where they sunset all of the costs after five years, but expect everyone to pay the cost for ten. No way, no how is there any way that makes sense.
You don't rent an Apartment for 12 months, agree to pay 12 month rent, but then agree to move out after 6 months. You would be paying rent for six months for an apartment you are not living in. People expect to only pay for things as long as they are receiving the benefit. Probably more often than not we expect the benefits to outlast our cost.
Let's assume the bill if on the level and we actually expect to sunset all of the benefits and everyone will be okay with that. Our cost would continue without the benefits for five tough years in which the drag on the economy would be immense. So either way, this is a economic killer. Democrats only want to pass it to say that they got something accomplished, even if that something is akin to passing gas in church.

Hillary Clinton shares the victory speech she would have given in 2016
My fellow Americans, today you sent a message to the whole world. Our values endure. Our democracy stands strong. And our motto remains: e pluribus unum. Out of many, one.
We will not be defined only by our differences. We will not be an us versus them country. The American dream is big enough for everyone. Through a long, hard campaign, we were challenged to choose between two very different visions for America. How we grow together, how we live together, and how we face a world full of peril and promise together.
Fundamentally, this election challenged us to decide what it means to be an American in the 21st century. And for reaching for a unity, decency, and what President Lincoln called 'the better angels of our nature. We met that challenge.
Today with your children on your shoulders, your neighbors at your side, friends old and new standing as one, you renewed our democracy. And because of the honor you have given me, you have changed its face forever. I’ve met women who were born before women had the right to vote. They’ve been waiting a hundred years for tonight.
I’ve met little boys and girls who didn’t understand why a woman has never been president before. Now they know, and the world knows, that in America, every boy and every girl can grow up to be whatever they dream — even president of the United States.
This is a victory for all Americans. Men and women. Boys and girls. Because as our country has proven once again, when there are no ceilings, the sky’s the limit.
If you dig deep enough through all the mud of politics, eventually you hit something hard and true. A foundation of fundamental values that unite us as Americans. You proved that today.
In a country divided by race and religion, class and culture, and often paralyzing partisanship, a broad coalition of Americans embraced a shared vision of a hopeful, inclusive, big-hearted America.
An America where women are respected and immigrants are welcomed. Where veterans are honored, parents are supported, and workers are paid fairly. An America where we believe in science, where we look beyond people’s disabilities and see their possibilities, where marriage is a right and discrimination is wrong. No matter who you are, what you look like, where you come from, or who you love.
An America where everyone counts and everyone has a place. A place and a purpose. Because we all have a role to play in our great American story. And yes, that absolutely includes everyone who voted for other candidates or who didn’t vote at all.
This summer, a writer asked me if I could go anywhere back in time and tell anyone in history about this milestone, who would it be? And the answer was easy. My mother, Dorothy.
"You may have heard me talk about her difficult childhood. She was abandoned by her parents when she was just 8 years old. They put her on a train to California where she was mistreated by her grandparents and ended up out on her own, working as a housemaid.
Yet she still found a way to offer me the boundless love and support she never received herself. She taught me the words of our Methodist faith: 'Do all the good you can for all the people you can in all the ways you can for as long as ever you can.'
I think about my mother every day. Sometimes I think about her on that train. I wish I could walk down the aisle.
I wish I could walk down the aisle and find the little wooden seats where she sat, holding tight to her even younger sister. alone. Terrified. She doesn’t yet know how much she will suffer.
She doesn’t yet know she will find the strength to escape that suffering. That is still a long way off. The whole future is still unknown as she stares out at the vast country moving past her.
I dream of going up to her, and sitting down next to her, taking her into my arms, and saying, 'Look at me. Listen to me. You will survive. You will have a good family of your own. And three children. And as hard as it might be to imagine, your daughter will grow up and become the president of the United States.'
I am sure of this as anything I have ever known: America is the greatest country in the world. And from tonight going forward, together, we will make America even greater than it has ever been, for each and every one of us. Thank you, God bless you, and may God bless America

An alleged member of the ultra-right Three Percenter militia movement said he was manipulated into participating in the Capitol riot by Yale secret society “Skull and Bones” and other groups he said were covertly acting for the government.
Allen Hostetter, who is among the handful of rioters facing more serious conspiracy charges over the Jan. 6 siege, made the outlandish claims in a Monday filing in federal court in Washington asking the judge to dismiss the charges against him. He is representing himself in the case.
In addition to Skull and Bones, San Clemente, California, resident Hostetter said “specific religious denominations known for secrecy such as Scientology and Mormonism” also helped covertly entice him into joining the assault at the behest of the federal government. Hostetter said he was targeted starting in March 2020 because he began organizing anti-lockdown protests during the pandemic, and that government agents “fashioned the lure to be as attractive as possible.”

The Build Back Better legislation eliminates the deficit by repairing our income tax structure.
Stephen Ross, a global real-estate tycoon best known for developing the Time Warner Center and Hudson Yards in Manhattan, added nearly $3 billion to his fortune between 2008 and 2017. But, this article reports, he didn’t pay a nickel in federal incomes tax during that time because of reported losses from his businesses. It was all entirely legal.
He is among a subset of the ultrarich who take advantage of owning businesses that generate enormous tax deductions that then flow through to their personal tax returns. Many of them are in commercial real estate or oil and gas, industries that have been granted unusual advantages in the American tax code, which allow the ultrawealthy to take tax losses even on profitable enterprises.
In real estate, depreciation – the idea that holdings lose value over time – is the key. “If a building initially cost investors $100 million, the tax code allows them, over a period of years, to deduct that $100 million.
But rather than losing value, real estate properties often rise in value over time, much like One Columbus Place [a 51-story apartment complex in midtown Manhattan] has done for Ross and his business partners…. These depreciation write-offs, along with deductions for interest and other expenses, have helped many of the nation’s wealthiest real estate developers largely avoid income taxes in recent years, even as their empires have grown more valuable.

Hard to fathom being on the cusp of winter, to have such massive warmth with a front that can certainly be speculated as another sign how much the envrionment is changing due to man!!!!! As the front marches east during the day, more severe weather could occur as east as the coast...Instead of a white Christmas, we are headed for a tornado outbreak!!!!!!!!

With his new book “Republican Rescue,” Christie begins reacquainting Trump voters with reality. The book often is an awkward mixture of strategic reticence and obvious evasions, but not on one important point: He demolishes what he calls the “drivel” about fraud stealing the 2020 election. Readers will be in no doubt about the identity of the prime driveler.
On election night, when Trump cried fraud, Christie says he was shocked. But he pointedly notes that weeks earlier, when Trump was asked if he would commit to a peaceful transfer of power, he replied, “Well, we’ll have to see what happens.” Christie writes that he thought Trump had “better have evidence” of fraud. But Christie mercilessly dissects Trump’s years of indifference to evidence — his original flight of “inflammation without information” — regarding Barack Obama’s birthplace.
The book’s schizophrenia is so undisguised it seems tactical. Christie is daring to acknowledge, and demonstrating a willingness to undertake, the political contortions necessary to propel the Republican Party up from Trump, away from performative entertainment and back to politics. Christie is saying: No one worked harder than I did to put my friend of 20 years in office and keep him there, and he is a liar, and a relic.
Christie says he does not want to make his divergences from Trump “personal,” but he surely knows that for Trump everything is personal. Christie inveighs against “wallowing in the past” and “the quicksand of endless grievances.” In Florida, the thick man with the thin skin is not wondering to whom Christie refers, and will not be forgiving just because Christie was, as he repeatedly reminds readers, “the first major officeholder” to endorse Trump.
The Trump parenthesis in Republican politics will not end without a fight. One pugilist seems ready.
I found the source of Scott's 50% demented Syndrome on January 6th.
Here’s where Carlson gets to the crux of his conspiracy theory:
But wait, here’s the interesting thing: Person Two and Person Three were organizers of the riot. The government knows who they are, but the government has not charged them. Why is that?
You know why: They were almost certainly working for the FBI. So, FBI operatives were organizing the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, according to government documents.
And those two are not alone. In all, Revolver News reported there are, quote, “upwards of 20 unindicted co-conspirators in the Oath Keeper indictments, all playing various roles in the conspiracy who have not been charged for virtually the exact same activities, and in some cases, much, much more severe activities as those named alongside them in the indictments.”
Huh? So it turns out that this “white supremacist” insurrection was, again by the government’s own admission in these documents, organized at least in part by government agents.
Carlson goes on to note that FBI Director Christopher A. Wray has said the government has aimed to infiltrate extremist groups like the Oath Keepers, which shouldn’t really be a surprise to anyone.
The theory was promoted Wednesday by Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.).
The first thing to emphasize is that Carlson’s theory is based on a report in Revolver News. The site is run by Darren Beattie, who appeared on Carlson’s show shortly after the above monologue. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Beattie is a former Trump White House speechwriter who was fired in 2018 over a past appearance on a panel with a white nationalist, Peter Brimelow, at a conference attended by well-known white nationalists.

Classic example of how dictators seize power in democracies.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) on Thursday talked with conservative broadcaster Steve Bannon about a plan to use "4,000 shock troops" to take over the jobs of federal government employees.
Bannon has previously said that the so-called "shock troops" need to be prepared prior to Republican control of the executive branch.

Two days before the January 6 insurrection several Republican U.S. Senators and Representatives were briefed on a 38-page coup PowerPoint memo. That document is being described as a roadmap for then-President Donald Trump to declare a national security emergency, invalidate all electronic votes, and move to have himself declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election.
It does not appear that any of the Republican lawmakers alerted the public to the in-process coup attempt.
It's unknown if the document he linked to is the same one sent to Meadows, which he turned over to the Committee.

Hey Juicy Alky Smolley-Aye...
When is someone from Jan 6 going to be charged with insurrection, sedition, and/or treason???
Mark Meadows turned the tables on the U.S. House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack on Wednesday, filling a lawsuit in federal district court in D.C. that argues the committee is unconstitutional and in violation of House rules.
CNN and other establishment media outlets played the lawsuit as a last-ditch effort by a man desperate to avoid a subpoena — or desperate to appease his former boss, Donald Trump.
Yet the lawsuit is a serious threat to the existence of the committee.
The lawsuit makes some familiar arguments, such as that the committee is violating the Constitution’s separation of powers by encroaching on executive privilege. Former Trump aide Stephen K. Bannon, who is being prosecuted by the supposedly apolitical Department of Justice for contempt of Congress, is making the same case against his subpoena in federal court.
But Meadows goes further, pointing out that the January 6 committee violates the terms of its own enabling resolution.
The resolution, H. Res. 503, provides that the committee “shall” consist of 13 members, five of which “shall be appointed after consultation with the minority leader.”
But the committee only has nine members, seven of whom are Democrats, and only two of whom are hand-picked anti-Trump Republicans. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) rejected the five members chosen by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (D-CA), an unprecedented step to ensure a one-sided inquiry.
Furthermore, Meadows’s lawsuit points out that while the chair of the committee can order subpoenas, that authority is not absolute. H. Res. 503 requires the chair of the committee to consult with the ranking member before issuing a subpoena for a deposition. But the committee has no ranking Republican member, which could make the committee’s subpoenas invalid.
If Meadows’s lawsuit is successful, he could not only block his own subpoena, but could see the entire committee declared invalid. Pelosi and the Democrats would have to start over — this time, obeying the rules, with five Republican members.
And Meadows drove home the point by naming every member of the committee as a defendant, not just Pelosi and the committee as a whole.

More than 50 people are feared dead after a catastrophic series of tornadoes ripped through Kentucky and other states late Friday and early Saturday, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said.
"It's devastating," Beshear told a news conference early Saturday, adding that he had declared a state of emergency and activated 181 guardsmen from the National Guard.
"We believe our death toll from this event will exceed 50 Kentuckians and probably end up closer to 70 or 100 lost lives," he said. "We will make it through this," he added. "We will rebuild, we are strong, resilient people."
Beshear said four tornadoes, one of which stayed on the ground for more than 200 miles after touching down, had swept through the state. Almost 60,000 Kentuckians had been left without power, he said.
The city of Mayfield had been "devastated," he said, adding that a roof collapse at a candle factory had "resulted in mass casualties."
He later tweeted a letter he sent to President Joe Biden asking for "an immediate federal emergency declaration."
Elsewhere, one person was dead and five were seriously injured when an apparent tornado struck the Monette Manor Nursing Home in Monette, Arkansas, Craighead County Judge Marvin Day said. He initially said two people had died.
At the same news conference, Kentucky Emergency Management Director Michael Dossett said the storm represented a significant massive disaster event.
"All state resources are being brought to bear," he said, adding that “it’ll be daybreak before we even realize the full magnitude of this event.”
Republican Sens. Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul of Kentucky issued statements following the devastating event.
Heat wave poised to ensure parts of U.S. see their warmest December on record
Andrew Freedman
Fri, December 10, 2021, 10:34 AM
A potentially epic December heat wave is set to blanket much of the contiguous U.S. over the next two weeks, potentially leading several cities and states to set records for the warmest first month of winter on record.
The big picture: In a major pattern shift, the jet stream is poised to dive south toward the western U.S., bringing much-needed rains and mountain snows to a parched California and other western states. But to the east of this jet stream dip, or trough, a potentially record strong ridge of high pressure is projected to set up over the Central U.S.
Get market news worthy of your time with Axios Markets. Subscribe for free.
This ridge will be responsible for the record warmth, but it's in keeping with trends from human-caused climate change.
The details: December has already been unusually mild in many areas, with Denver and Salt Lake City recording their latest measurable snowfalls on record, and the Houston area tying its hottest recorded temperatures seen for the month on Thursday, when highs reached the mid-to-upper 80s.
The warm weather looks to build starting early next week in the Plains, South Central states, and Gulf Coastal region. The highest temperatures compared to average are likely in the eastern Plains on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with colder air not projected to start pouring in from Canada until Christmas or soon after. Even then, the East Coast is still likely to be unusually mild.
There is virtually zero chance of a white Christmas in cities including St. Louis, Kansas City, Columbus, New York City, Boston, Washington, D.C., and points south.
According to the National Weather Service, some areas may see temperatures running 20°F to 40°F above average for this time of year, as the record strong area of high pressure builds aloft. This high will ensure plenty of sun, sinking air, which helps to increase temperatures through compression.

Because the house of Representatives has the authority to investigate the Presidentials actions. If they reveal criminal activities, the Department of Justice could enable a grand jury hearings into potential charges of sedition or even treason. The former President is not immune, nor his staff members.
President Gerald Ford pardoned Nixon to end the Watergate inquiry.
President Biden is probably not going to pardon Trump, because he attempted to overthrow the Constitution of the United States of America.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said he feared the tornadoes killed 70 people in the state and the death toll may exceed 100. “This has been the most devastating tornado event in our state’s history,” Mr. Beshear said at a news conference Saturday.
Tornadoes are very rare in December or other winter months.
At least 70 feared dead in Kentucky as tornadoes rip through swaths of U.S.

Tired of the constantly disturbing news, and wanting to get away from it all, we turn to the Christmas story for relief. Surely in the beautiful Christmas narrative we can find respite from all the hateful language and infighting, all the negative, divisive thinking that is so rampant in American politics today. Surely we can there find relief from the incessant demand that we have to side either with the thinking of the Republicans or with the thinking of the Democrats.
And so we turn to the gospel scriptures for this coming Sunday, and there we find a text in which the author of Luke relates what Mary, the mother of Jesus, must have said prophetically about his arrival:
“God has shown great strength with his arm; he has dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart. He has brought down the mighty from their thrones, but lifted up the lowly; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away.”
Oh no! we tell ourselves, for Mary’s words challenge us to choose whose side we are on, requiring us to side with the thinking of that party which is most committed to “bringing down” the powerful from their “thrones.” Mary’s words challenge us to side with those politicians who are most committed to dislodging selfish billionaires from their positions of greedy power and dominance, thereby “sending the rich away empty” and “lifting up the lowly” and “filling the hungry with good things.”
Politics just won’t leave us alone, will they? They come barging right into the Christmas story, right into the narrative of the low-born baby who as an adult criticized the wealthy for their selfish greed, warning them that “you cannot serve two masters; you cannot serve both God and money,” and calling all of us to care for the poor, the ostracized, the outcasts, including even the least and last of people, no matter who they are. “For I myself,” Jesus said, “did not come to be served, but to serve,” and to give my life for all.
Against the distorted hypes of certain politicians, Jesus warns us to “guard yourselves against every form of greed, for your life does not consist in the abundance of your possessions.”

This acticle is scheduled to appear next Friday in our local paper. Due to criticism orginating here, I have improved it. Thank you.
Roger...
The FBI already investigated the Jan 6th protest... they did not find anyone who was tied to any conspiracy or anyone who pre-coordinated any sort of planned coup or anything of the other conspiracy theories being brought here. If none of the participants coordinated anything, then it's hard to charge a third Party not there for coordinating the uncoordinated.
The problem for you Roger... is that you cannot arrest someone for political rhetoric. If you want to arrest him because they called someone a "war room" or because they put a team of lawyers together to make legal challenges to the election results.
While clever politicians can confuse easily confused sheep like yourself into believing that trying to make legal challenges a coup attempt or that it puts them on the hook for Jan 6th. But you cannot bring "rhetoric" to trial and charge someone with "rhetoric".
Trump won't be charged by the FBI Roger...
The FBI probably doesn't want to get that deep into this thing, especially after how the Whitmer kidnapping ended up coming back to bite them with allegation of entrapment.
Would they want to mess with someone as well funded as Trump? Think of all the disclosure that would have to be provided if they charged him with a crime. He would play this out to be a conspiracy against him, Americans would believe him, and he would actually be given a chance to get information (as a defendant) that he cannot get today.
The Washington Post reported even more evidence of the coup attempt on January 6th.
The FBI would not indict Trump but the the Chairman of the Department of Justice can.
Election denier who circulated Jan. 6 PowerPoint says he met with Meadows at White House
https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/phil-waldron-mark-meadows-powerpoint/2021/12/11/4ea67938-59df-11ec-9a18-a506cf3aa31d_story.html
Mark Meadows may be the next person who knows what Trump knew and when he knew it.
Although Trump at the time was pressuring Pence to delay certifying Biden’s victory, it is not clear how widely the PowerPoint was circulated or how seriously the ideas in it were considered. A lawyer for Meadows, George J. Terwilliger III, said on Friday that there was no indication that Meadows did anything with the document after receiving it by email. “We produced it [to the committee] because it was not privileged,” Terwilliger said. A Meadows spokesman, Ben Williamson, declined to comment. Waldron said he was not the person who sent the PowerPoint to Meadows.
Still, Waldron’s account of his interactions with the White House, together with a 36-page version of the presentation that surfaced online this week and was reviewed by The Post, shed new light on the wild theories and proposals that circulated among the people advising Trump as they worked to overturn his election defeat, causing a crisis at the heart of government. They suggest that Meadows, who also pressed senior Justice Department leaders to investigate baseless conspiracy theories about election fraud, was more directly in contact with proponents of such theories than was previously known.
Again like I said before, if Meadows knows what the President know and when he knew it.....
If he knew and directly ordered Meadows to invade the Capitol building, he could be indicted for sedition or even treason..
Meadows may have refused Trump's request to get the Department of Justice to overturn the election results, Trump could be changed.
The invalid parallels you have been using don't matter to the law enforcement agencies.
Mike Pence pledged Allegiance to the Constitution.
Trump violated his pledge.

The case is not over yet because more information will emerge from the house committee on the January 6th issue.
Roger...
You keep confusing attempts to challenge an election in court (100% perfectly legal) with a riot. Nobody denies that Trump had a whole team of people attempting to challenge the election. Al Gore did the same thing and nobody accused him of treason. Proving that he was attempting to get the courts to toss election results does nothing to promote a crime.
Are you not capable of separating the two?
What you will need to do... is not continue to pretend that it's treason to make a legal argument or treason to make a constitutional argument and focus very specifically as to whether or not there is evidence that Trump actually "planned" to have 500 unarmed Americans attempt to "take over the US Government".
That is what you need to prove, Roger.
Not going to happen because it didn't happen.
He will play this out as the next conspiracy to destroy Donald Trump.
And you will follow him and call me PTSD infected again.
President Clinton did not instigate an Insurrection on January 6th of 2020.
And if he had Al Gore would have done the same thing as Vice President Pence.
When the supreme Court decision dismissed the recount in Florida he conceded defeat himself.
Al Gore didn't the same thing.
When the supreme Court decision dismissed the recount in Florida he conceded defeat himself.
Al Gore hired a whole legal team to dispute the results of the election in court...
According to you, that is treason.
After that he implemented the Insurrection act on January 6th.
Oh he did, did he?
Only thing missing there is ANY ACTUAL EVIDENCE that he implemented anything.
I think there is much more evidence that and old racist white man from South Dakota beat up his black wife because he hates minorities...
Can we just say it happened? Is that how it works Roger?
No because he followed the law and the Constitution.
And conceded
Trump still hasn't conceded defeat
Neither have you
I incorrectly mentioned the Insurrection act. But
He implemented the Insurrection act on January 6th
He could face charges of sedition or treason.

The case is not over yet because more information will emerge from the house committee on the January 6th issue.

When I destroy your arguments you return to what people say when they lost the debate.
Funny how Lil Schitty keeps getting his ass kicked while still not recognizing or admitting the FACT Trump lost!!!!!! Why is that? Trump told you Scott?????? BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
There is zero evidence that and old racist white man from South Dakota beat up his black wife because he hates minorities...
You have lost your mind Scott.
What really bothers him is that although I don't have a college degree, when I kick his ass off.
I use other people's words because they are far better writers than me...
We are in the most dangerous era in history.
Joe Biden enters the room before his address to the Summit for Democracy at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in Washington, DC, on December 9.
During the opening speech at Thursday’s Summit for Democracy, President Joe Biden told the assembled international leaders that the stakes of their meeting were nothing less than existential: that the survival of democracy itself depended on what his audience did next.
“We stand at an inflection point in our history,” Biden said. “The choices we make at this moment are going to fundamentally determine the direction our world is going to take in the coming decades.”
No one other than Secretary of State Antony Blinken was in the room to hear Biden’s call to action. The summit is a fully virtual affair due to the pandemic, with leaders of democratic countries speaking to each other via videoconference.
Absent the applause and pageantry of an in-person event, Biden’s words rang strangely hollow. It was as if he was issuing a dire warning to no one in particular.
This is a decent metaphor for the current American approach to democracy where it counts the most — at home.
There is no doubt that democracy in the United States is at serious risk. The year began with an attack on the Capitol designed to thwart the transition of power; instead of repudiating this violence, Republicans doubled down on the lie that Trump won the election and are working, right now, to rig the system in their favor. Neither Democrats nor the general public are doing much of anything to stop them.
Several pieces of legislation on voting rights have been stopped cold by the filibuster, as neither Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) nor Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) seems willing to make an exception to the archaic Senate rule in order to protect democracy. Meanwhile, the voters who care are mostly Republican partisans, believers in Trump’s lies about 2020. An October poll found that 71 percent of Republicans believe democracy is facing a “major threat,” as compared to just 35 percent of Democrats.
Experts on democracy warn that America is sleepwalking toward a disaster, a situation where the electoral playing field is so tilted in the GOP’s favor that America’s people no longer have a meaningful voice in who rules them. “We’ll wake up one day, and it’ll become clear that Democrats can’t win,” says Tom Pepinsky, a political scientist at Cornell University.
In theory, the Summit for Democracy is supposed to be the crown jewel of Biden’s global democracy agenda. It kicks off an international “year of action” where countries across the world, including the United States, work to strengthen democracy at home and abroad. In his speech, Biden called for the passage of two laws — the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act — as a way for America could fulfill this promise.
But so far, neither his government nor the public in general is doing much to force these bills through. It’s a state of affairs that raises a grim question: Is this what it looks like when a democracy dies and nobody cares?
I care you don't.
Sounds like a lovely conspiracy theory Roger...
Suddenly Democracy is threatened because states require Identification to vote and require that the people counting the ballots report their numbers and have oversight.
The unmitigated gall of them to demand such atrocities.
Trust me Roger... we are one of 2 first world countries that do not have a national voter ID requirement (Russia is the other) and 30 plus states have voter ID laws. It's only a matter of time until every state has a voter ID law and every state will have officials capable of reporting numbers upfront and counting in a manner that doesn't take 3-4 days.
People want voter ID. By 2-1 or even 3-1 they support it. Even black people support voter ID laws. People want honest counting and they want it done within a reasonable amount of time.
California is a in the vast minority here.. and the progress of voting that the rest of the world enjoys will eventually take hold and replace your neanderthal and outdated laws that allows people to just show up and vote without ID.
There will be no credibility in our elections when you can audit one county in one state and find 50,000 ballots that were not only questionable but largely uncountable from a legal standpoint. We will have no credibility when we have one or two counties counting votes with no supervision or counting 3-4 days after everyone else has been done.
Make no mistake Roger... you want the antiquated status quo that has allowed people to question our elections. Progress demands that we make elections more secure and more credible.... not like some singing competition where everyone just texts Biden or Trump on their mobile device because it's easier.
Suddenly Democracy is threatened because states require Identification
God Dayum Lil Schittty......sometimes your simplistic mind warps in ways that defy logic!!!!!!! No one promotes that thought, only assholes like you trying to protect white male power!!!!! The attack on voting rights is centered on GOP run states that are threatened with losing their power!!! Setting laws that allow states if they choose to overrule vote counts at best is your last grasp to remain in charge!!! It's not who votes, but who counts the votes and the GOP has been working very hard to be the counter, not a non partisan board!!!!! Sorry sport, you want a Putin like asshole to lead the US in their vision of being rich and powerful!!!!!! BWAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!
This is the crap you endorse and support, Lil Schitty!!!!!

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — When thousands of Trump supporters gathered in Washington on Jan. 6 for the Stop the Steal rally that led to the storming of the U.S. Capitol, one of them was a pastor and substitute teacher from Elizabethtown, Pa., named Stephen Lindemuth.
Mr. Lindemuth had traveled with a religious group from Elizabethtown to join in protesting the certification of Joseph R. Biden’s victory. In a Facebook post three days later, he complained that “Media coverage has focused solely on the negative aspect of the day’s events,” and said he had been in Washington simply “standing for the truth to be heard.”
Shortly after, he declared his candidacy for judge of elections, a local Pennsylvania office that administers polling on Election Day, in the local jurisdiction of Mount Joy Township.
Mr. Lindemuth’s victory in November in this conservative rural community is a milestone of sorts in American politics: the arrival of the first class of political activists who, galvanized by Donald J. Trump’s false claim of a stolen election in 2020, have begun seeking offices supervising the election systems that they believe robbed Mr. Trump of a second term. According to a May Reuters/Ipsos poll, more than 60 percent of Republicans now believe the 2020 election was stolen.
Unlike you Denny, and Roger, and even the Reverend...
I don't care for riots either way.
But I don't use rhetoric to describe something differently than it really is. There was no coup on Jan 6th and nobody is going to prison for treason. If you want incitement I have the names of a dozen Democratic politicians who pushed BLM/Antifa protest/Riot and some that even supported the violence. Any politician who claims no justice no peace is an instigator far above telling a crowd to march peacefully.
The difference... as it always is. Trump derangement syndrome. You folks simply cannot judge Trump the same way you judge others because of your overwhelming hatred.
Kind of like how Roger hated Lydia so much... that he had to just... well... we all know what happened there.
Suddenly Democracy is threatened because states require Identification because the voter ID will decrease turnout..
“Democracy will be on trial in 2024. A strong and clear-eyed president, faced with such a test, would devote his presidency to meeting it,” the Atlantic’s Barton Gellman writes. “Biden knows better than I do what it looks like when a president fully marshals his power and resources to face a challenge. It doesn’t look like this.”
There’s a similar asymmetry on the mass public level. The Trump faithful are gearing up for a fight in 2024, organizing at the very local level to influence the outcome of future elections. A September ProPublica investigation documented the emergence of a “precinct strategy,” beginning with a call to action on Steve Bannon’s radio show, in which Republicans have begun flooding local voting precincts with volunteers who could shape the counting process in the next election cycle.
“ProPublica contacted GOP leaders in 65 key counties, and 41 reported an unusual increase in signups since Bannon’s campaign began. At least 8,500 new Republican precinct officers (or equivalent lowest-level officials) joined those county parties,” the outlet explains. “We also looked at equivalent Democratic posts and found no similar surge.”

Republicans, at both the elite and mass public level, are actively organizing against democracy — with largely ineffectual pushback from Democratic elites and partisans. There is no evidence of a mass movement to save democracy in America today.
Why?
Broadly speaking, it looks like elites and the mass public are locked in a mutually reinforcing democratic disinterest loop. The party leadership has chosen a political strategy that deprioritizes democracy reform, making partisans less likely to care about the issue. At the same time, Democratic partisans are less interested in the issue with Trump out of power, making them less likely to push their leaders to act.
The Democrats are not pushing the voting rights act and they will decrease turnout in enough numbers to win the election by a minority of whites who he got in 2016 because he started the birther theory.
Because you are a white supremacist, you don't care about democracy, just like Hitler.
I told you that he would say PTSD!!!!!
The difference... as it always is. Trump derangement syndrome. You folks simply cannot judge Trump the same way you judge others because of your overwhelming hatred.
You can't diferat between concern or hatred.
I don't hate Trump, but I care about the United States of America.
You don't care about The United States of America.
Cultist like you are the most dangerous people I have ever seen or read about.
Because you are a white supremacist, you don't care about democracy, just like Hitler.
Alky free and fair elections are what all Americans should want
The isolationist philosophy is on The American Greatness movement..
What the West needs are new leaders who remind us we are capable of achieving anything, no matter how difficult the struggle. What we need is the return of rugged individualism and an end to State-sponsored conformity. What we need are people who remember the importance of fighting not for their governments, but for their countries. We don't need to depopulate the world with pandemics, abortions, and economic carnage in order to claim victory and "save it." We need to dream such grand dreams once again that the Earth becomes our most important home base on our journey to colonize the solar system. We need to stop believing that every problem has a government answer and remember that unbridled innovation requires no mandates.
For too long, young America has followed the Big State socialism beloved in old Europe, and, unsurprisingly, America now looks and feels just as old as Europe does. Can you imagine how competitive America will be once it finally throws off the shackles weighing it down? Laying off the outdated bureaucrats, trimming the Leviathan down to size, unleashing the free market's engine for growth, and cutting out all the institutional dead weight — that's how America gets its mojo back. That's the America that anyone with a pulse would want to take out for a spin. And in an America that embraces adventure and mocks fear, there's just no room for an Old Guard cabal that knows only how to over-promise, under-perform, and punish anyone who complains.
The build back better bullies have set out to cement their grip on world power. What they may very well discover in the years to come is that they set the stage, albeit inadvertently, for a new "New World Order" to arise — one that leaves them out of the picture for good.
I multi task all the time.
You think I'm demented...
Or a kid from South Dakota is a racist rodent bastard
....
Like you said that you were a moderate Democrat, and as you aged you became a conservative.
.
Unlike you I took the third step back to liberal views.
The last election was the most secure in history!
Suddenly Democracy is threatened because states require Identification because the voter ID will decrease turnout..
Hardly Roger...
There are no Americans left who cannot get an ID but otherwise figure out a way to stand in line and vote. There are literally zero examples of people not legally voting because they do not want to show their ID.
Even if you could find a remote person here or there... possibly a half dozen across the vast country that can figure out how to make it to the voting poll, but cannot manage to garner a free ID card... it wouldn't make any difference.
The entire world and a majority of America has figured out how to effectively hold elections while requiring ID. Your days of just showing up are numbered!
What you are complaining about is that Democrats won't be allowed to cheat. You are literally worried that people are signing up to oversee vote counts. You are complaining that people will have to prove that they are eligible to vote.
If you are eligible and these Democratic counties are following the law, then they have nothing to fear from ID laws and TRANSPARENT counting of the ballots.
It's only a problem if people are illegally voting and counters are cheating. THe Reverend always argues that people with nothing to hide should have no problem being investigated. Obviously election officials who have nothing to hide should have no problem with allowing neutral poll watchers.
Why is Roger afraid of people having to prove who they are to vote... like 95% of the world does in elections?
Why is Roger afraid of allowing people to watch the vote counting?
Sounds like someone knows that this prevents cheating and apparently election cheating is Democracy in Roger's mind.
🐑Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has a history of flip-flopping on key issues throughout the Chinese coronavirus pandemic, said one year ago that the pandemic would not last “a lot longer” due to vaccines, yet he continues to favor mandates, promote masking, and advance the notion that boosters could continue to be needed.🐑
You believe the big.
These laws are specifically designed to reduce turnout among African Americans

I know, right.
I just found your next Trump!!! Dr. Oz.
Dr. Oz says it’s time for Dr. Fauci to take his medicine.
Mehmet Oz, the medical entrepreneur and television host now running for US Senate in Pennsylvania, said he would like to see Anthony Fauci removed as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases — a post he has held since 1984.
“Dr. Anthony Fauci has lost the faith and confidence of the American people,” Oz told The Post. “It’s time for a new face talking to the American people, one that is more trusted.
Minorities have to show ID to get a vaccine.
They have had no problems.
Right wing terrorist's are a clear and present danger to the people who believe in science.
The president of California’s medical board said she was “followed and confronted” by members of a group under investigation by a U.S. House of Representatives panel for promoting dubious Covid-19 treatments, saying they flew a drone over her family’s home and “ambushed” her outside her office, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
They are reversing the Reformation movement.
Roger, stop .
You are only further embarrassing yourself.
Yep.
"promoting dubious Covid-19 treatments"
The CDC vaccine and follow up endless shots, masks, distancing, plexiglass hanging all about.
Redstate said that I'm demented about climate science.
grew up in the South. I remember hearing stories about catastrophic tornadoes. Most people knew of someone who had been killed by one at some point. Every single year of my life that I can recall, lives have been lost due to large tornadoes. Unfortunately, they are a devasting reality for parts of the country. No amount of “Green New Deal” garbage is going to change that. For someone to be so deluded by their own sense of political superiority that they’d suggest such before the bodies are cold is absolutely disgusting.
And as I said above, Joe Biden also decided to play this game.
Will the fact-checkers rush to denounce this crap? What evidence is the president offering that a supposedly warming climate was the cause of the severity of the tornadoes that hit multiple states last night? Because I’m not hearing any presented at all. Instead, I hear generic leftwing talking points, using hurting and dead Americans as political props.
This is why many on the right call climate change a cult. Like apocalyptic doomsday adherents, almost everything negative in the world is attributed to the actions of their god. In this case, a natural weather event that has happened repeatedly over the entire history of the planet is somehow the fault of the Industrial Revolution. It’s insulting in its sheer stupidity.

Birds are drones that turn you into communist. But the fake New York Times is lying!
In Pittsburgh, Memphis and Los Angeles, massive billboards recently popped up declaring, “Birds Aren’t Real.”
On Instagram and TikTok, Birds Aren’t Real accounts have racked up hundreds of thousands of followers, and YouTube videos about it have gone viral.
Last month, Birds Aren’t Real adherents even protested outside Twitter’s headquarters in San Francisco to demand that the company change its bird logo.
The events were all connected by a Gen Z-fueled conspiracy theory, which posits that birds don’t exist and are really drone replicas installed by the U.S. government to spy on Americans. Hundreds of thousands of young people have joined the movement, wearing Birds Aren’t Real T-shirts, swarming rallies and spreading the slogan.
It might smack of QAnon, the conspiracy theory that the world is controlled by an elite cabal of child-trafficking Democrats. Except that the creator of Birds Aren’t Real and the movement’s followers are in on a joke: They know that birds are, in fact, real and that their theory is made up.
What Birds Aren’t Real truly is, they say, is a parody social movement with a purpose. In a post-truth world dominated by online conspiracy theories, young people have coalesced around the effort to thumb their nose at, fight and poke fun at misinformation. It’s Gen Z’s attempt to upend the rabbit hole with absurdism.
“It’s a way to combat troubles in the world that you don’t really have other ways of combating,” said Claire Chronis, 22, a Birds Aren’t Real organizer in Pittsburgh. “My favorite way to describe the organization is fighting lunacy with lunacy.”
At the center of the movement is Peter McIndoe, 23, a floppy-haired college dropout in Memphis who created Birds Aren’t Real on a whim in 2017. For years, he stayed in character as the conspiracy theory’s chief believer, commanding acolytes to rage against those who challenged his dogma. But now, Mr. McIndoe said in an interview, he is ready to reveal the parody lest people think birds really are drones.

These laws are specifically designed to reduce turnout among African Americans
95% of the world uses voter ID laws...
How are laws used in all of Europe, Asia, and everywhere designed to reduce turnout among African Americans?
Explain it to me Roger?
btw... I have read the new laws.
Have you?
No,I have not read any of these laws because they are over my head. But liberals who I depend upon to gaslight me have told me that the laws are designed to hurt African Americans.
And no, I cannot (as a white liberal) explain to you why American blacks are also in favor of these laws. I guess they just do not know what is good for them... but I do, because I am a gaslighted liberal who thinks I know better what people want... even though I am an old white racist.
CHT, Roger doesn't do independent thought.

The Illiberal Upstarts Trying to Reinvent the American RightMeet the young intellectuals who think the culture war is not being fought hard
Today’s youth are overwhelmingly left-wing. So who are the young conservatives? On Episode 40 of The Politics of Everything, hosts Laura Marsh and Alex Pareene talk to Sam Adler-Bell, a writer and the host of the podcast Know Your Enemy, about an energetic cohort who call themselves the New Right. They differ in many ways from the median right-wing voter. They hate the Republican establishment. Their heroes are illiberal authoritarians like Scott are they going to remake conservatives.

Israel has joined the woke
An Israeli study appears to support findings from Pfizer and BioNTech that three doses of their vaccine, including a booster as well as an initial two-shot regimen, provide strong protection against the omicron variant, Reuters reported.
The blood samples of 20 people who received a third shot of the Pfizer vaccine one month ago and those of 20 people who received a second dose of the vaccine between five and six months ago were analyzed by researchers from the Israeli Ministry of Health’s Central Virology Laboratory and Sheba Medical Center, according to the news outlet.
The director of the Infectious Diseases Unit at Sheba Medical Center, Gili Regev-Yochay, said that while there was no neutralization ability against the omicron variant in those who had received their second shot five or six months ago, “the good news is that with the booster dose it increases about a hundred fold
Scott will hate legal vigilantes in California
After the U.S. Supreme Court declined to block a Texas state law that bans most abortions there, Gov. Gavin Newsom said he’ll push for a new California law that will bar the manufacture and sale of assault rifles in the state.
“I am outraged by yesterday’s U.S. Supreme Court decision allowing Texas’ ban on most abortion services to remain in place, and largely endorsing Texas’ scheme to insulate its law from the fundamental protections of Roe v. Wade,” Newsom said in a statement Saturday night. “But if states can now shield their laws from review by the federal courts that compare assault weapons to Swiss Army knives, then California will use that authority to protect people’s lives, where Texas used it to put women in harm’s way.”
The California anti-gun law, Newsom said, would be modeled on the Texas law that makes abortions illegal after six weeks of pregnancy and allows private citizens to sue doctors or anyone who helps a woman get an abortion to enforce it.
Newsom said he was directing his staff to work with the state Legislature and Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta on a new law that would allow private citizens to sue manufacturers or distributors of assault weapons.

A warming world could add more fuel to tornadoes, scientists say
While the link between global warming and disasters like wildfires and flooding are more definitive, experts say, warmer temperatures could intensify cool-season thunderstorms and tornadoes in the future.

In the wake of deadly storms that ravaged parts of the South and the Midwest this weekend, scientists had a warning: While the exact link between climate change and tornadoes remains uncertain, higher temperatures could add fuel to these violent disasters.
As rescuers searched Saturday amid the rubble of violent tornadoes that barreled through multiple states, killed scores of people, and leveled homes and businesses, climate scientists said people around the world needed to brace for more frequent and intense weather-driven catastrophes.
“A lot of people are waking up today and seeing this damage and saying, ‘Is this the new normal?’ ” said Victor Gensini, a meteorology professor at Northern Illinois University, adding that key questions still remain when it comes to tornadoes because so many factors come into play. “It’ll be some time before we can say for certain what kind of role climate change played in an event like yesterday.”

Liberals use deadly tornados to attack Republicans on climate changeSeveral verified Twitter users attacked Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul in the wake of the tragedy

Several liberals on Twitter, including politicians and celebrities, pointed the finger at climate change and Republicans following devastating tornados in western Kentucky that killed at least 70 people.
Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell used the tragedy to take a shot at Republican Sen. Rand Paul, who represents Kentucky, accusing him of not caring about Americans who are in need.

As you can see, manufacturing is in good shape, and inventories of durable goods are especially strong. However, retail inventories are down substantially and auto inventories have fallen off a cliff. Overall, business inventories are down about 11%.
If anything, inventories ought to be rising at least a little bit during an economic expansion as corporations get increasingly confident about their business. But that isn't happening this time around due to supply constraints. Combine that with a big slug of money pumped into the economy at the beginning of the year and you get a big slug of inflation. When inventories catch up to demand and all that money has been spent—both of which are certain to happen—inflation will settle down.
Happy Climate Change Day
I'm really getting worried...
You lost Hispanics, GOP is up double digits in 2022 polling, and Trump leads both Biden and Harris by considerable margins in the 2024 Presidential race.
By 2025 the GOP probably holds both branches of Congress, the White House and sitting on a 5.5 to 3.5 USSC advantage The Democrats will go back to the back of the bus where they belong... bitching and moaning about things.
